Senate Minority Leader <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/chuck-schumer" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Chuck Schumer</a> (D-NY) has been busy criticizing the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/weekend-warrior-elon-musk-reveals-how-doge-is-cutting-billions-in-spending-every-day" target="_blank" rel="noopener">cost-cutting efforts</a> led by the Department of Government Efficiency (<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/department-of-government-efficiency-doge" target="_blank" rel="noopener">DOGE</a>), but its leader, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/elon-musk" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Elon Musk</a>, is not letting him go unchallenged.
Over the past couple of days, Musk used his social media platform X to deliver retorts to Schumer&#8217;s negative assessments of DOGE, which President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/donald-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Donald Trump</a> established by <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/01/establishing-and-implementing-the-presidents-department-of-government-efficiency/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">executive order</a> on the first day of his second term.
&#8220;An unelected shadow government is conducting a hostile takeover of the federal government,&#8221; Schumer <a href="https://x.com/SenSchumer/status/1886556882250145804" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in a post to X on Monday. &#8220;DOGE is not a real government agency. DOGE has no authority to make spending decisions. DOGE has no authority to shut programs down or to ignore federal law. DOGE’s conduct cannot be allowed to stand. Congress must take action to restore the rule of law.&#8221;
Musk shot back, <a href="https://x.com/elonmusk/status/1886701194782892524" target="_blank" rel="noopener">saying</a>, &#8220;Hysterical reactions like this is how you know that @DOGE is doing work that really matters. The back-and-forth continued on Tuesday after one account on X posted <a href="https://x.com/unlimited_ls/status/1886829458327290091" target="_blank" rel="noopener">video</a> of Schumer delivering remarks about DOGE on the Senate floor.
&#8220;The American people will not stand for an un-elected secret group to run rampant through the executive branch,&#8221; Schumer said. &#8220;Being innovative is good, but Mr. Musk, this isn&#8217;t a tech startup. These are public institutions.&#8221;
Musk <a href="https://x.com/elonmusk/status/1886840365329608708" target="_blank" rel="noopener">responded</a> with another post to X, declaring, &#8220;He’s mad that @DOGE is dismantling the radical-left shadow government in full view of the public.
