Four lawsuits were filed in D.C. federal court on Monday challenging the Department of Government Efficiency.
The American Federation of Government Employees, along with two left-wing nonprofits, <a href="https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.dcd.276598/gov.uscourts.dcd.276598.1.0.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sued</a> President Donald Trump and the Office of Management and Budget. 
The lawsuit said AFGE’s president, Everett Kelley, requested that a representative of the federal employees union be appointed to the cost-cutting panel because AFGE “has a deep knowledge of the federal government.” It complains that Norm Eisen, a far-left lawyer and lawfare practitioner who has tried to thwart Trump, also applied, only to be told that “we have no room in our administration for Democrats.” 
The lawsuit claims that DOGE is an advisory committee that should be subject to the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA), which would require it to have members with balanced views, and meetings and materials open to the public. It said the Grace Commission, a Reagan-era cost-cutting panel, was structured under FACA.
Donald Trump has tasked DOGE, led by Elon Musk, with “partnering with the White House and Office of Management &amp; Budget to drive large scale structural reform.”

Also on Monday, the American Federation of Teachers joined the American Public Health Association and four other liberal groups filed a <a href="https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.dcd.276601/gov.uscourts.dcd.276601.1.0.pdf">similar lawsuit</a>.
“DOGE does not currently have an individual who will speak on behalf of government workers and their interests,” the suit said. Teachers are employed by local governments, not the federal government, but the AFT has used union dues to pursue a general leftist agenda.
The suit said “FACA requires that any advisory committee, including DOGE, be ‘fairly balanced in terms of the points of view represented and the functions to be performed by the advisory committee.’ … DOGE’s stacked membership, far from being fairly balanced, reveals that only one viewpoint is represented: that of ‘small-government crusaders.’”
It described cost savings to taxpayers as a “hefty price tag for the American people,” saying it has “a goal of slashing between $500 billion and $2 trillion in federal spending.”
It also challenged secrecy, saying “DOGE’s use of Signal threatens to irreparably deprive Plaintiffs and the American public of records to which they are entitled under FACA.”
In a third lawsuit, <a href="https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.dcd.276600/gov.uscourts.dcd.276600.1.0.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">National Security Counselors, Inc.</a>, which says it “has represented federal employees,” sued DOGE and OMB. It cites media coverage to argue that DOGE is an “advisory committee” and names Silicon Valley entrepreneurs who it says largely make up the entity.

“Not a single member of DOGE has experience working on matters of national security or representing people who do,” it says. It said Jerald Lentini, a lawyer for a union and the security counselors group, applied for a job at DOGE but never heard back.
His job application said he was “deeply concerned that the D.O.G.E. may be bereft of staff—and leadership—who understand and prioritize the considerations of the civil servant&#8230; As a proud member of AFSCME Local 2663, I hope to ensure that these workers’ livelihoods are not capriciously upended by those whose expertise and sympathies lie elsewhere.”
The <a href="https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.dcd.276599/gov.uscourts.dcd.276599.1.0.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Center for Biological Diversity</a> sued OMB, saying Biden’s OMB had failed to fulfill a FOIA request for the Trump transition materials about DOGE, and that it has an interest since DOGE could advocate for removing regulations that it says could protect wildlife.
Federal unions, which are invested in keeping the paychecks to government employees flowing, have tried to block Trump&#8217;s reforms, make it difficult to fire poor performers, and prevent the president from requiring employees to stop working from home.

The billionaire Tesla founder spoke positively about the future of the country under the Trump administration as his son, X Æ A-Xii, smiled, waved, and walked around on stage next to his dad. 
The Sunday event featured performances from Kid Rock, Billy Ray Cyrus, and the Village People performing one of Trump’s anthems, “Y.M.C.A.” Those acts got a lot of attention, but social media was buzzing about &#8220;Little X.&#8221;

Vivek Ramaswamy is reportedly quitting his role at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) ahead of an expected run for governor of Ohio.
Ramaswamy, an entrepreneur who unsuccessfully ran for president in 2024, was slated to head DOGE alongside tech magnate Elon Musk. Originally the brainchild of Musk, DOGE is to serve as an outside advisory group to the White House on cutting government waste.
Ramaswamy has yet to make a public announcement about either DOGE or a gubernatorial run, though he plans to announce his bid for Ohio governor next week, according to <a href="https://www.politico.com/live-updates/2025/01/20/donald-trump-inauguration-day-news-updates-analysis/ramaswamy-doge-ohio-governor-00199276" target="_blank" rel="noopener">POLITICO</a>. DeWine is term-limited and set to leave office in 2027, setting up a competitive Republican primary for his governor’s seat in 2026.
In his press conference announcing his pick to fill Vance’s seat, DeWine predicted that both the Ohio governor’s race and U.S. Senate race, a special election for which is scheduled for 2026, would be competitive.
“I seriously doubt that it will avoid a contentious race for governor,” DeWine <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/01/17/us/politics/dewine-names-lt-gov-jon-husted-to-fill-jd-vances-senate-seat.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. “Just stay tuned. You’re going to see how many people, you know, say that they’re running in both parties.”
Ramaswamy is a relatively new face to politics and has yet to hold public office. His first attempt was a short-lived presidential bid in the 2024 Republican primary. After suspending his campaign, he endorsed Trump and became an outspoken ally for him to retake the White House.

Elon Musk said Sunday during a victory rally for President-elect <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/donald-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Donald Trump</a> in Washington, D.C., that now was the time to make “significant changes” that would set the stage for centuries of American strength.
Musk made the comments after he was introduced by Trump in front of thousands of supporters at the Capital One Arena in D.C. Musk was a strong backer of Trump during the 2024 campaign and has been tasked with running an initiative called the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
“We’re looking forward to making a lot of changes, and this victory is the start,” Musk said. “What matters going forward is to actually make significant changes, cement those changes, and set the foundation for America to be strong for a century, for centuries, forever.”
Musk was joined on stage by his 4-year-old son X, who Musk described as “a very enthusiastic supporter” of Trump.
Shortly after he won the election, Trump announced that Musk would be heading up DOGE, to help cut federal government waste.
“I am pleased to announce that the Great Elon Musk, working in conjunction with American Patriot Vivek Ramaswamy, will lead the Department of Government Efficiency,” Trump said in a statement. “Together, these two wonderful Americans will pave the way for my Administration to dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies – Essential to the ‘Save America’ Movement.”
“To drive this kind of drastic change, the Department of Government Efficiency will provide advice and guidance from outside of Government, and will partner with the White House and Office of Management &amp; Budget to drive large scale structural reform, and create an entrepreneurial approach to Government never seen before,” Trump added.
There have now been <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/vivek-ramaswamy-expected-to-depart-doge/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">some reports</a> that Ramaswamy will step away from DOGE in the coming weeks to focus on a run for Ohio governor.

With DOGE, Musk hopes to cut the annual federal budget by $2 trillion and to slash regulations to free the American economy from onerous or duplicitous rules.
Other speakers at the D.C. Trump rally included Dana White, Stephen Miller, and actor Jon Voight.
Trump will take the presidential oath again and be sworn into office around noon on Monday. Officials have moved the inauguration ceremony into the Capitol building because of frigid weather expected on the day of the event. The traditional parade for the inauguration has been canceled, though officials are reportedly considering having Trump take his first actions as president, signing a slate of executive orders, from a stage set up in Capital One arena.

The launch for Starship&#8217;s 7th test flight at its Starbase in south Texas took place in clear conditions. Just seven-and-a-half minutes after launching Starship into orbit, the Heavy Booster, which is 232 feet tall, returned to the launch pad and was caught by two massive metal arms that Musk calls &#8220;chopsticks.&#8221; The feat marks the second time SpaceX has caught its rocket with the chopsticks after <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/looked-like-magic-spacex-successfully-launches-super-heavy-booster-returns-it-to-launch-tower" target="_blank" rel="noopener">making history</a> with the new engineering achievement in October.

Shortly after Starship launched into orbit, SpaceX lost communication with the spacecraft, and it was lost.
&#8220;We can confirm that we did lose the ship,” said SpaceX engineer Kate Tice, according to CNN.
Starship, which was on a test flight, was supposed to go around Earth and splash into the Indian Ocean.
“We obviously need to go through all the data. It’s going to take some time. In the next hours, days — we’re going to figure out exactly what happened, come back, fly the next one, get farther,&#8221; Communications Manager Dan Huot said. “Reminder, it’s a test of an experimental vehicle.”
The launch was initially scheduled for Monday, but was moved back to Wednesday and then moved again to Thursday over inclement weather.

Los Angeles Democrat Mayor Karen Bass is facing intense criticism for being on another continent while historic wildfires burned down neighborhoods in the area.
Bass was more than 7,000 miles away visiting the African nation of Ghana when fires erupted Tuesday and quickly spread thanks to the notorious Santa Ana winds.
Bass traveled to Ghana with three others for the inauguration of President John Dramani Mahama, who was elected last year.

Real estate magnate Rick Caruso described the scenes in Southern California as &#8220;like a third-world country.&#8221;
&#8220;There is no water coming out of the fire hydrants,&#8221; he said. &#8220;LA Mayor Karen Bass is on a foreign trip to Ghana.”
The main blaze, the Palisades Fire, quickly erupted to well over 3,000 acres within hours. Three other fires erupted around L.A. County on Tuesday, including the Eaton Fire, which consumed more than 2,000 acres by Wednesday morning; the Hurst Fire in Sylmar in the San Fernando Valley, which consumed more than 500 acres by Tuesday night, and the the Woodley Fire, a small fire that only burned a couple dozen acres and was quickly contained.
Well over a thousand structures were destroyed, The New York Times reported, as officials worried that the worst is still yet to come with well over 15,000 structures at risk. Approximately 300,000 people were without power on Wednesday morning.

The strangest thing about this story is that this was happening in dozens of cities across England over the course of two decades before it became a national story. Tesla CEO <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/elon-musk" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Elon Musk</a> responded to the incident that unfolded in Las Vegas on Wednesday when a Cybertruck exploded in front of a Trump hotel by saying that the company was investigating the matter.
&#8220;The whole Tesla senior team is investigating this matter right now,&#8221; Musk said in a post on X.
&#8220;Will post more information as soon as we learn anything,&#8221; Musk added. &#8220;We’ve never seen anything like this.&#8221;
In response to the possibility that the explosion could have come from a car bomb, Musk said: &#8220;Cybertruck is the worst possible choice for a car bomb, as its stainless steel armor will contain the blast better than any other commercial vehicle.&#8221;

Law enforcement officials are investigating the explosion as a possible act of terrorism after the driver pulled up outside the Trump Las Vegas hotel in Nevada on Wednesday morning and the vehicle exploded just moments later.
&#8220;The driver pulled into the valet area of the hotel and the vehicle exploded,&#8221; ABC News reported, citing a law enforcement official. &#8220;The driver is apparently dead and, so far, the only casualty from the incident. Seven bystanders had minor injuries.&#8221;
Investigators were working to determine whether something happened inside or outside the vehicle that triggered the explosion.
There were large fireworks inside the vehicle that exploded and they were working to determine if they were part of a bomb that was intentionally detonated or whether it was an accident.
The fact that the vehicle involved was a Cybertruck immediately raised suspicions because of Musk&#8217;s close ties to President-elect Donald Trump.
Eric Trump, Executive Vice President of The Trump Organization, said in a statement: &#8220;Earlier today, a reported electric vehicle fire occurred in the porte cochère of Trump Las Vegas.&#8221;
&#8220;The safety and well-being of our guests and staff remain our top priority,&#8221; he added. &#8220;We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Las Vegas Fire Department and local law enforcement for their swift response and professionalism.&#8221;

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/elon-musk" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Elon Musk</a>, the billionaire owner of Tesla and SpaceX, told Dr. Jordan B. Peterson that he was “tricked into” allowing one of his sons to undergo gender procedures, saying his child was “killed” by the “woke mind virus.”
Musk sat down with Peterson for an interview that covered a range of topics and was streamed live on <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/episode/dr-peterson-x-elon-musk" target="_blank" rel="noopener">DailyWire+</a> and X. During one segment, Peterson and Musk discussed children being targeted by doctors with gender procedures, with both men agreeing that the practice is “evil.” Musk called “gender-affirming care,” the Left’s description of the procedures, “a terrible euphemism.”
“It’s really child mutilation and sterilization,” Musk said. “It’s evil. You’re taking kids who are far below the age of consent.”
“It’s very possible for adults to manipulate children who are having an actual identity crisis into believing that they are the wrong gender,” he added.
“Why are you willing to make this an issue?” Peterson asked Musk, which led to the billionaire entrepreneur opening up about his son, Xavier, who struggled with gender dysphoria and now identifies as a girl.
“Well, it happened to one of my older boys,” the Tesla and SpaceX owner replied. “I was essentially tricked into signing documents for one of my older boys, Xavier. This was really before I had any understanding of what was going on, and we had COVID going on, so there was a lot of confusion. And I was told Xavier might commit suicide.”

“That was a lie right from the outset,” Peterson said. “No reliable clinician ever believed that. There was never any evidence for that, and also, if there is a higher suicide rate, the reason is the underlying depression and anxiety and not because of the gender dysphoria. And every god-d*** clinician knows that, too, and they’re too cowardly to come out and say it.”
“It’s incredibly evil,” Musk said. “And I agree with you that the people that are promoting this should go to prison.”
“I was tricked into doing this. It wasn’t explained to me that puberty blockers are actually just sterilization drugs,” he added. “I lost my son, essentially. They call it ‘deadnaming’ for a reason. The reason they call it ‘deadnaming’ is because your son is dead, so my son, Xavier, is dead, killed by the woke mind virus.”
“I’m sorry to hear that. I can’t imagine what that would be like,” Peterson told the billionaire entrepreneur.
“So I vowed to destroy the woke mind virus after that,” said Musk. “And we’re making some progress.”
