Leave it to the ivory-tower Left to look at the greatest American innovation engine of the 21st century and think, “Hey, Uncle Sam should steal that.”
Former Clinton Labor Secretary Robert Reich went completely off the deep end during a podcast screed with his sidekick Heather Lofthouse over the weekend, floating an unhinged, authoritarian scheme to have a Democrat administration seize control of Elon Musk’s SpaceX and Starlink.
Musk wasn’t having any of it and fired back with his trademark bluntness on X.
“Stealing companies is a serious crime. Prison for Reich,” he said.
In Reich’s twisted fantasy, building a company from scratch, revolutionizing space travel, and giving American astronauts a ride into orbit without begging Russian dictator Vladimir Putin for rocket seats is an offense punishable by state confiscation.
On their “Coffee Klatch” podcast, Reich went full socialist, demanding Democrats “defund Musk” and lay the groundwork to “nationalize Starlink and SpaceX.”
According to Reich, no single private citizen should wield that kind of power. Never mind that NASA was stuck in bureaucratic quicksand for decades before Musk’s SpaceX slashed launch costs, was the first to land and reuse orbital-class boosters, and made American aerospace dominant again.
To Reich, that’s not genius. He called it an “oligarchic problem” worse than the 19th-century robber barons.
The Left-wing duo then spun into a fever dream of partisan score-settling, practically drooling over the prospect of congressional Democrats weaponizing government agencies against Musk. Lofthouse cheered on the idea of political “accountability,” echoing Kara Swisher’s grim fantasy that Musk could be jailed under a Democrat regime.
Musk fired back at Democrat threats, saying, “Live by the sword, die by the sword.” Reich and Lofthouse clutched their pearls, framing Musk’s vow to fight back in court and online as a “threat.” Apparently, when the leftist establishment targets an entrepreneur with government investigations, it’s “oversight,” but when that entrepreneur vows to defend his life’s work, he’s a menace to society.
Reich’s hysteria only got more unhinged from there. Without missing a beat, he ludicrously blamed Musk for global outbreaks of Ebola, malaria, and child hunger, bizarrely lumping him together in a villainous trifecta with President Donald Trump and Putin.
It’s the ultimate leftist projection: paint the builder as a monster while openly plotting Soviet-style asset seizures.
Musk didn’t inherit an empire; he risked his own fortune when SpaceX was on the brink of bankruptcy, transforming American tech into the envy of the world. If Reich thinks Washington bureaucrats can run Starlink better than the visionary who built it, he belongs in a comedy club.
Or, as Musk suggested, prison.
