American lawmakers are sounding the alarm that Brazil may be taking a page out of Europe’s playbook, enacting laws designed to hurt American companies.
Brazil is in the midst of a debate over legislation that would impose massive regulations on digital markets, which are dominated by American tech companies. A Republican lawmaker says the Brazilians should consider what happened in Europe, which is now under pressure from President Donald Trump to dial back the restrictions.
Rep. Scott Fitzgerald (R-WI) says Trump should nip the push in the bud, making it part of the ongoing trade deal with the South American country.
“I’m shocked to learn that Brazil, in the middle of trade discussions with the U.S., is fast-tracking a DMA-style bill that targets U.S. companies,” Fitzgerald said.
Trump has championed American businesses and pledged to fight overseas regulations that hurt domestic companies during his trade negotiations. In the trade framework agreement with the European Union, Trump made the Europeans promise they would “address unjustified digital trade barriers.”
The European Union passed the Digital Markets Act in 2023 to regulate the influence held by major tech companies, labeling the big six tech companies all “gatekeepers.” To be labeled a <a href="https://www.eu-digital-markets-act.com/Digital_Markets_Act_Article_3.html">gatekeeper</a>, the law explains, the company must act as a channel for businesses to reach their customers, have a broad influence across Europe’s digital economy, and be a mainstay in the digital platform space.

All six designated gatekeepers — Alphabet, Amazon, Apple, ByteDance, Meta, and Microsoft — have since raised concerns about how the rules work in practice.
“The Digital Markets Act isn’t helping European markets,” <a href="https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2025/09/the-digital-markets-acts-impacts-on-eu-users/">stated</a> Apple. “Instead of competing by innovating, already successful companies are twisting the law to suit their own agendas.”
Gatekeeper companies face severe consequences for noncompliance. Regulators can impose <a href="https://digital-markets-act.ec.europa.eu/about-dma_en#:~:text=Legislative%20history%20of%20the%20DMA,laid%20down%20in%20the%20DMA.">fines</a> of up to 10% of a company’s annual revenue for a single violation, rising to 20% for repeat offenses. Although the law applies in Europe, the fines capture revenue generated worldwide.
Trump criticized such regulations in August, <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/115092243259973570">writing</a> on Truth Social, “As the President of the United States, I will stand up to countries that attack our incredible American Tech Companies. Digital Taxes, Digital Services Legislation, and Digital Markets Regulations are all designed to harm, or discriminate against, American Technology.&#8221;
Experts warn that Brazil, one of the largest economies in the world, is setting itself on the same course.
“Brazil would be wise to put this ill-advised legislation on ice,” said Ashley Baker, executive director of the Committee for Justice. “The Digital Markets Act is bad policy. It was a blunder when Europe pursued it, and Brazil attempting to import that approach to the western hemisphere is bad for their prospects of reaching a trade deal with the United States.”
Baker said that any attack on U.S. innovators marks “a red line” for Trump.
Michael Toth, research director at the Civitas Institute, warns that Brazil’s proposal will cause the same competition problems that regulation caused in Europe.
“Brazil’s proposed digital markets bill unfairly targets U.S. technology companies under the guise of promoting competition,” Toth said. “By replicating Europe’s flawed model, it creates a discriminatory system that hurts consumers and innovation.”

Lawmakers Fear Brazil Will Fast Track Bill ‘Targeting U.S. Companies’

The Trump administration notched a victory when a Kentucky federal judge temporarily blocked the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau from implementing a rule critics say puts Americans&#8217; financial data at risk.
The 1033 Rule, proposed under President Joe Biden&#8217;s CFPB Director Rohit Chopra, <a href="https://www.consumerfinance.gov/personal-financial-data-rights/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">requires</a> banks to &#8220;make available to consumers, upon request, transaction data and other information concerning a consumer financial product or service that the consumer obtained from the covered entity.&#8221;
Forcht Bank, the Kentucky Bankers Association, and the Bank Policy Institute sued to block the rule, saying it exceeded the CFPB’s authority and would force the institutions to hand over large amounts of sensitive data, creating security and liability risks. Judge Danny C. Reeves of the United States District Court for Kentucky concluded the rule could cause more harm than good.
&#8220;The public could arguably lose some benefit from the Rule not being enforced at the set compliance deadlines,&#8221; said the judge. &#8220;However, the plaintiffs also contend that enforcement of the current Rule puts consumers at risk due to security risk as to their banking information.&#8221;
The <a href="https://bpi.com/joint-statement-on-courts-decision-to-stay-section-1033-compliance-deadline/">Bank Policy Institute</a> issued a statement saying the organization was grateful for the court&#8217;s decision.
&#8220;This is a common-sense procedural step,&#8221; said the Bank Policy Institute. It &#8220;doesn’t interfere with the rulemaking process but ensures banks won’t be forced to invest time and resources preparing for a rule that is currently being rewritten.”
&#8220;This preliminary injunction marks a pivotal moment for those who value consumer privacy and limited-government issues,&#8221; a source familiar with the matter told The Daily Wire. &#8220;The Trump administration now has a unique opportunity to advance a new 1033 rule that gets the government out of the way and unleashes innovation.”
Under Vought&#8217;s leadership, the CFPB issued <a href="https://www.consumerfinance.gov/personal-financial-data-rights/">an advance notice of proposed rulemaking,</a> inviting the public to give input to form the basis of the final rule. Once input has been provided, the CFPB will share a draft of the rule.
The CFPB is now analyzing public comments and data around four key issues related to the implementation of the 1033 rule: who should be allowed to access financial data on a customer&#8217;s behalf, whether companies should be allowed to charge data sharing fees, how big are the security risks of sharing financial data, and how big are the privacy risks.
The Bank Policy Institute writes that the current rule &#8220;unlawfully mandated banks to share sensitive consumer data with third-party fintechs and aggregators; it required no oversight of third parties using bank customer data,&#8221; among other issues.
Earlier this year, Chopra was notified that he had been <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/trump-fires-rohit-chopra-director-of-the-consumer-financial-protection-bureau/">fired by the president</a> via an email from the White House. President Trump appointed Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to lead the agency in interim before handing the reins over to Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought.
Rethinking the CFPB has been a priority of the Trump administration&#8217;s since the start of his term. In February, the White House issued a statement stating that the agency &#8220;has long functioned as another woke, weaponized arm of the bureaucracy that leverages its power against certain industries and individuals disfavored by so-called elites.&#8221;
The Trump administration accused the CFPB of &#8220;supporting radical advocacy groups, threatening banks for refusing to lend to illegal immigrants, targeting a Chicago small business after it complained about the city&#8217;s rampant crime, and mining American citizens&#8217; personal financial information.&#8221;

WASHINGTON—When Nancy Pelosi announced her retirement, mixed in among the tributes to the former House Speaker were a lot of jokes about stocks.
“‘America’s Greatest Investor’ gets dethroned!!!” conservative radio host Larry Elder <a href="https://x.com/larryelder/status/1987634512323555496?s=20">wrote</a> on X. “[Shout out] to Nancy Pelosi. [I]n Honor of your retirement, what other stocks should I invest in?” another user <a href="https://x.com/kstaura/status/1986495365793620347?s=20">posted</a>.
Pelosi has come under fire in recent years for her prolific stock trading, which, by some estimates, has earned her <a href="https://www.newsmax.com/newsfront/nancy-pelosi-paul-pelosi-investments/2025/11/08/id/1233768/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">$130 million</a> while in Congress. Although the California Democrat has not been charged with any wrongdoing, her uncanny ability to pick winning stocks has led many to suspect that Pelosi is using insider information to inform her trades.
On Autopilot, an investment app that allows users to model their trades off prominent investors like Warren Buffett, following Pelosi is now the biggest draw, co-founder Chris Josephs told The Daily Wire.
“It makes me sound like I’m faking stuff, but we have all the data,” Josephs said. “We track her filings. She quite literally outperforms hedge funds. There’s just no way around it. She literally just picks good stocks.” Last year, Autopilot estimated Nancy Pelosi made $28 million in profits from trades.
Josephs created Autopilot five years ago to let people follow their friends’ stock portfolios. Eventually, he realized he could grow the app by allowing users to follow successful investors. Once he understood the draw of Pelosi, he launched the Nancy Pelosi Stock Tracker <a href="https://x.com/pelositracker">account</a> on X, which brought the former speaker’s trades to an even wider audience.
Through his work, the world has seen Pelosi make massive gains from investments in big names such as Tesla and Nvidia, and her “perfectly-timed” investments are now part of her legacy. 
 Autopilot now has $1 billion in assets under management. That’s good for business, but bad for America, Josephs says.
“An app with the tagline &#8216;Invest like a Politician&#8217; should not be this popular,” he says.
Josephs says he’s a supporter of the push by Pelosi’s colleagues for a bill to bar lawmakers from trading. The Preventing Elected Leaders from Owning Securities and Investments — or PELOSI Act — is at the top of House Speaker Mike Johnson’s (R-LA) agenda for when the government reopens, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) <a href="https://x.com/RepLuna/status/1987702215964836113?s=20">said</a> earlier this month. “This should have happened long before Speaker Pelosi announced her retirement, but it’s time to ban Congressional stock trading,” Rep. Marianette Miller-Meeks (R-IA) <a href="https://x.com/RepMMM/status/1989010038636077219">added</a>.
“This is not a partisan issue,” Josephs told The Daily Wire. “If we can get this ban through, it literally benefits everybody.”
“There is no net negative for this bill not to go through except for the politicians. It will bring more trust. It’ll bring more transparency. It’ll bring more comfort knowing that these politicians actually pass things that don’t just benefit them,” Josephs added. “The American people need a win.” 
Missouri Republican senator Josh Hawley agrees.
“Members of Congress should be fighting for the people they were elected to serve — not day trading at the expense of their constituents. Americans have seen politician after politician turn a profit using information not available to the general public,” the Missouri Republican told The Daily Wire.

“It’s time we ban all members of Congress from trading and holding stocks and restore Americans’ trust in our nation’s legislative body.”
Josephs says restoring trust in government institutions is Autopilot’s number one goal, even though a ban would affect their business. 
“We will welcome the revenue hit. We will welcome the marketing challenge of not having the Pelosi tracker because we think it brings more trust and transparency back into the institution.” 
In preparation, his team has been expanding its portfolio lineup, adding a tracker that allows investors to follow Michael Burry, the hedge fund manager who famously predicted the 2008 housing crisis and was immortalized in “The Big Short.”
Though Josephs favors the ban, he warns that lawmakers need to be careful about how they craft it, lest the legislation backfire. For instance, earlier versions of the stock trading ban required lawmakers to divest any ownership stakes in private companies.
“A lot of people have small businesses that they privately own,” Josephs said. “It’s really hard to sell these companies because the stock is illiquid and you have to find buyers.”
He also warned the legislation could backfire, cutting off some of the nation’s most capable talent from entering politics. 
“I think it would demotivate a major class of successful people from running for office,” he said. 
“Business people are successful. They know how to run things, how to lead, how to hire, how to create and execute strategies. We shouldn’t turn away those potential candidates because they own businesses that could be difficult to sell. They’d have to find the right price, the right buyer — it’s hard.” 
Josephs said he’s hopeful a version of the bill without that requirement will gain traction, beginning with a congressional hearing expected next week. However, he believes real momentum may not come until 2027 when Pelosi retires.
“Nancy’s a prominent figure, she’s very powerful. She ran the Democratic Party for years. My bet is that some lawmakers, especially on the Democratic side, are hesitant to support the ban publicly because of potential setbacks or headwinds from Nancy Pelosi coming after their camp,” he said. 
“The elephant in the room is she’s the face of this whole thing.”

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt laid out the harm caused by the ‘Democrat Shutdown,’ now the longest shutdown in U.S. history, during her Press Briefing on Wednesday. 
“The Democrats dragged on the government shutdown for 43 days… damage caused by the Democrats by this reckless government shutdown cannot be forgotten,” said Leavitt during her press conference on Wednesday. 
Recently, both the Small Business Optimism Index and the Federal Reserve reported that the shutdown has already negatively impacted the economy. Millions of Americans are employed by the federal government, while millions more work as federal contractors, subcontractors, or for businesses that depend on federal contracts or funding.  
At the most recent Federal Reserve meeting, Fed Chair Jerome Powell said the negative economic effects should begin to reverse once the government reopens. 
During Wednesday’s press conference, Leavitt listed some of the economic consequences of the shutdown.
“Hundreds of thousands of federal employees have missed their paychecks, tens of billions in wages and benefits were withheld impacting vulnerable families, millions of low-income American families missed their SNAP benefits, nearly 20,000 flights at airports across the country were delayed due to staffing shortages causing Americans to miss family events, vacations, and work obligations.” 
She noted Airlines for America estimates flight disruptions already have or will impact 5.2 million travelers. 
The Congressional Budget Office estimates that cuts to fourth-quarter GDP growth could be as large as 2%, potentially delivering a negative blow to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s plan to keep the federal deficit at 3% of GDP in his “3-3-3” plan. 
CBO says, “Most of the decline in real GDP will be recovered eventually, but estimates between $7 billion and $14 billion will not be.” 
Leavitt said that she believes the deal will hold and that the government shutdown will come to an end tonight.  
She blamed Democrats for the entire government shutdown. “Just look at the vote count,” Leavitt urged. “The clean CR that will lead to the reopening of the federal government is what President Trump and Republicans have supported from day one.”
Before wrapping up her remarks and opening the room to questions, Leavitt touted President Trump’s efforts to address affordability in America. 
The Press Secretary discussed “the largest middle class tax cuts,” which include no tax on tips, no tax on overtime, and no tax on Social Security. She explained that the tax cuts will guarantee that “next year Americans will put more money into their pockets.” Leavitt then compared inflation rates during Trump’s administration with those of the Biden Administration. Notably, inflation rates under Biden were higher, with the administration averaging rates at <a href="https://www.bls.gov/regions/mid-atlantic/data/consumerpriceindexhistorical_us_table.htm">5%</a>. So far, the Trump administration is seeing averages of about <a href="https://www.bls.gov/regions/mid-atlantic/data/consumerpriceindexhistorical_us_table.htm">2.5%</a>. 
Leavitt says a big part of Trump’s ability to reduce inflation has been to unleash American energy dominance. She says, “Gasoline prices are at their lowest levels in five years, and we expect them to continue to decrease.” 
Along with lower gas prices, she noted the President is working around the clock to lower drug prices by negotiating deals with large pharmaceutical companies at home and abroad. Leavitt said she expects small businesses will save thousands of dollars in regulatory burdens as the Trump Administration “cuts thirty unnecessary regulations for every new one on the books.” 
Leavitt concluded by emphasizing that affordability remains at the top of President Trump’s agenda and criticized Democrats for what she called hypocrisy on the issue: “The notion that the same Democrats who shut down the federal government, sabotaged our economy, robbed people of their paychecks and helped Joe Biden ratchet up inflation to 9% are now suddenly affordability champions is completely absurd.”

Democrats are lashing out at the eight senators from their own party who voted to reopen the government without securing more federal subsidies for the Affordable Care Act &#8212; but a new survey of small business owners reveals that Democrats&#8217; favorite health care policy may not be playing well with the American electorate.
“The cost of health insurance has gone up every year since the ACA,” a Pennsylvania manufacturer told the National Federation of Independent Business. “No small business can keep up with the costs.&#8221;
Health insurance premiums rose <a href="https://www.cms.gov/cciio/resources/forms-reports-and-other-resources/downloads/uninsured-affordability-in-marketplace.pdf">143%</a> in the first six years after the ACA, colloquially known as Obamacare, took effect. Next year, premiums are set to rise <a href="https://www.kff.org/quick-take/aca-insurers-are-raising-premiums-by-an-estimated-26-but-most-enrollees-could-see-sharper-increases-in-what-they-pay/?utm_source=chatgpt.com">26%</a> on average. Democrats say these rising premiums justify Congress approving <a href="https://www.cbo.gov/publication/61734">$24.6 billion</a> worth of taxpayer-funded subsidies, while Republicans say the need to spend billions offsetting premium costs proves that the ACA is unaffordable and unsustainable.
&#8220;The increase will surely kill many small businesses in the next couple of years,&#8221; the Pennsylvania manufacturer said. &#8220;Soon I will no longer be able to offer health insurance to my employees. In turn, this will cost me good employees.&#8221;
He&#8217;s not the only one feeling the crunch.
&#8220;It is becoming increasingly difficult to provide medical insurance that the company and employees can afford,&#8221; a manufacturer from Ohio added.
Obamacare prices were at the heart of the longest government shutdown in American history, which the Senate voted to break Monday night after 41 days. Republicans pushed for a continuing resolution to reopen the government, while Democrats refused to agree unless the measure included a one-year extension of ACA subsidies.
From the Senate Floor, Democratic Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) argued preserving the ACA was essential.
&#8220;I must vote no [to reopen the government] because health care prices are so severe, so urgent, and so devastating for families back home,&#8221; Schumer said. &#8220;I cannot support this CR that fails to address the health care crisis.&#8221;
The National Federation of Independent Business&#8217; optimism index fell 0.6 points in October, according to the report. The sharpest contributor to October’s dip was a deterioration in earning trends, with 25% of owners reporting lower profits. NFIB’s Chief Economist Bill Dunkelberg reported the government shutdown likely played a role, as the Uncertainty Index fell 12 points to its lowest reading this year.
Despite the pullback, optimism among small businesses remains three points above the low from earlier this year and above its 52-year average of 98. Confidence hit its lowest point in April amid market volatility and tariff-related uncertainty, before rebounding midyear as conditions stabilized.
The labor market continues to frustrate small employers. Like last month, small businesses reported a tight labor market with labor quality remaining the most significant problem in October. Small businesses report struggling to compete with large corporations offering higher wages, signing bonuses, and more comprehensive benefits.
The gap is most apparent in skilled trades, where 28% of small businesses reported job openings they can’t fill. Jobs for electricians, plumbers, welders, HVAC technicians, and construction workers are among the hardest to supply. <a href="https://www.nfib.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/NFIB-SBET-Report-Oct.-2025.pdf">Nearly half (49%)</a> of small businesses in the construction industry reported not being able to find construction workers.
This trend was years in the making. Fewer young people have pursued vocational programs and many older, experienced tradespeople have retired. According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average age in the manufacturing industry is 44 and the <a href="https://www.bls.gov/cps/cpsaat18b.htm">average age</a> of a construction worker is 42, signaling an aging workforce.
However, there may be reason for cautious optimism. Recent studies suggest that Gen Z is increasingly turning toward <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/mike-rowe-reacts-to-rise-in-skilled-trade-enrollment-calls-gen-z-the-next-toolbelt-generation">trade careers</a>, motivated by higher education costs and concerns that artificial intelligence could disrupt traditional white-collar jobs.
While overall small business optimism has cooled in recent months, the survey reports that business &#8220;won’t be pleasant until the shutdown is ended.” With the reopening of the government, many business owners expect the negative impacts of the shutdown to reverse.

What began as a peaceful, student-organized memorial in Manchester, England, to honor Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk and promote free speech on campus quickly took a turn when protesters disrupted the event, and police were forced to intervene.
The University of Manchester&#8217;s Pro-Life Society had spent weeks preparing for the gathering, which featured guest speaker Lois Miller, a well-known pro-life advocate. The group hoped the event would serve as a respectful tribute to Kirk’s legacy and an opportunity for open discussion about the value of human life and the importance of free speech.
However, midway through the event, tensions escalated when protesters surrounded the attendees. According to Inge Botha, president of the pro-life group, officers intervened after about ten minutes of mounting pressure.
“When the mob was almost on top of us, the police stepped in,” Botha said. “They formed a barrier between us and the protesters after someone pushed over a portrait of Charlie Kirk.”
Botha added that members of the society flagged posts earlier that day from the university’s Feminist Society and Leftist Society, encouraging students to protest the memorial. According to guest speaker Lois Miller’s X page, the protesters outnumbered the pro-life attendees “ten to one” and brought speakers to drown out Miller’s remarks.
Botha was shocked by protesters and their ability to forget that Kirk was a husband and a father with two children.
&#8220;No matter who it is, you’d hope people could show some empathy,&#8221; Botha said.
One protester showed up in Charlie&#8217;s white &#8220;Freedom&#8221; t-shirt with red paint on his neck and shirt.
She added, &#8220;It&#8217;s incredibly concerning how comfortable they are with death and murder.&#8221;
Botha explained that her group’s mission is rooted in defending human life at all stages.
“We support human life from its beginning to its end,” she said. “We stand against abortion, euthanasia, murder, and assassination.” She hopes to make a difference in abortion and admires Kirk as an avid pro-lifer.
Guest speaker Lois Miller was invited for her extensive research and advocacy within the pro-life movement. In a recent article, titled “The Elephant in the Room Is Abortion,” Miller addressed Britain&#8217;s birthrate crisis, citing statistics that show 28% of Britain’s Generation Z were aborted.
“Abortion does not just end lives,” Miller wrote. “It leaves lasting scars on the women who undergo it. Physical complications, mental health struggles, and silent grief ripple through our healthcare system and society.”
Monday’s disruption was not the first time Manchester’s Pro-Life Group faced hostility on campus.
“At our first event, protesters followed us out of the building and down the street,” Botha recalled. “At another, one of our members was followed, and police had to intervene to make sure she could get home safely.”
Despite repeated confrontations, Botha says she remains undeterred and committed to the group’s mission.
“It shows how important open dialogue is,” she said, noting that past events have sparked meaningful conversations with individuals who approached afterward to ask questions and engage respectfully.
The Manchester Pro-Life Group plans to continue to host events that promote discussion around the sanctity of life and the importance of protecting free speech.

The Supreme Court on Monday declined to revisit its landmark 2015 decision in Obergefell v. Hodges, which legalized same-sex marriage nationwide. This is the second time in almost five years that the high court has rejected a challenge without giving a reason. 
The court denied the appeal from Kim Davis, a former county clerk in Kentucky, whom lower courts found to have violated the constitutional rights of same-sex couples by refusing to issue them marriage licenses, citing religious beliefs. She was jailed for contempt and ordered to pay <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/kim-davis-fighting-back-after-ordered-to-pay-100000-to-gay-couple-could-end-up-at-scotus-legal-team-says">$360,000</a> in damages and fees. Davis tried to have the fine dropped by arguing she had First Amendment religious protection from liability.
“Like the abortion decision in Roe v. Wade, Obergefell was egregiously wrong from the start,” said Mat Staver, founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel, which represented Davis. “We will continue to work to overturn Obergefell. It is not a matter of if, but when the Supreme Court will overturn Obergefell.”
“Today, love won again,” said Kelley Robinson, president of the leftist Human Rights Campaign. “When public officials take an oath to serve communities, that promise extends to everyone &#8211; including LGBTQ+ people. The Supreme Court made clear today that refusing to respect the constitutional rights of others does not come without consequences.&#8221;
To hear a case, at least four of the nine justices must vote to grant review, a practice known as the “rule of four.”
“If ever there was a case of exceptional importance, the first individual in the Republic’s history who was jailed for following her religious convictions regarding the historic definition of marriage, this should be it,” David said in her petition to the court.
According to NPR, same-sex marriage would have still been protected on the federal level even if the Supreme Court had decided to hear Davis’s appeal. Former President Joe Biden signed the Respect for Marriage Act into law in 2022, recognizing the legitimacy of same-sex marriages. If Obergefell were overturned, individual states could once again deny recognition to same-sex marriages.

NEW YORK—Zohran Mamdani was met with applause when he name-checked &#8220;Yemeni bodega owners&#8221; during his acceptance speech Tuesday evening.
But while Mamdani, the mayor-elect of New York City, may consider the owners of the city&#8217;s trademark delis as part of his multi-ethnic, working-class coalition, the owners themselves are less than thrilled with the socialist their neighbors elected.
&#8220;That&#8217;s not a good thing,&#8221; one shop owner told The Daily Wire this week when asked about Mamdani&#8217;s pledge to open state-run grocery stores. &#8220;I’m not with it.&#8221; The owner also expressed frustration that he would have to pay property taxes and rent while government-operated stores would not.
He was hardly the only business owner to criticize Mamdani&#8217;s policies.

“What the sad part is, it’s the people in the city who made these decisions. New York is already messed up,&#8221; a liquor store owner said. &#8220;They had a choice between Cuomo and this knucklehead and they chose the knucklehead, so we are going to pay for it.&#8221;
He added that younger voters “don’t know what democracy is or how the legislative process works.” He compared the state of the city to “kids running the school.”
Many of Mamdani’s policies are controversial, but one in particular struck a chord with small business owners: “$30 by 30,” a plan to nearly double the city’s minimum wage from $16.50 to $30 per hour by 2030. Currently, the city raises the minimum wage by $0.50 a year. Under Mamdani’s plan it would jump by about $3.50 annually.
“Think of how many places, family owned, that will have difficulty making payroll,” said a flower shop owner. “Overnight half of the mom-and-pop shops will go out of business.”
He believes Mamdani’s policies will take New York in the wrong direction: “We are on the way to becoming a communist state.”
Another shop owner added that the wage hikes will inevitably force prices to rise.“A $30 minimum wage will result in the product going up,” he said.
“As someone who has built a company here for over twenty years, I&#8217;ve never been more concerned,” says William Stern, CEO and Founder of Cardiff. Stern’s company provides capital loans to small businesses. “You can&#8217;t declare war on the capital and expect the city to survive. It&#8217;s economic suicide.&#8221;
Stern believes New Yorkers have voted for a “dangerous experiment” where the people, small business owners, and working families will pay the price. He urges New Yorkers to see that Mamdani’s selling a socialist fantasy to people who are struggling. “He&#8217;s playing revolutionary with other people&#8217;s lives and livelihoods.&#8221;
Mamdani’s affordability pledges also include making city buses free. The Daily Wire asked New York City bus drivers about the plan. One said “free buses do not work well in New York City.” Currently the $2.90 bus fares make up about 40% of MTA’s revenue. Mamdani also wants to freeze rent for stabilized apartments, but business owners warn that could make it harder for landlords to afford repairs and upkeep.

One business owner did not hold back when asked how Mamdani’s policies might affect the city. 
“We’ll go to hell, it will be over. The city’s in trouble, we’re going back to the &#8217;70s.”
The 1970s were a grim chapter in New York’s history marked by mass exodus, high crime rates, and a major fiscal crisis.
One flower shop owner who has owned his shop since the 70s, reflected on his favorite mayor: Rudy Giuliani.
Giuliani, widely credited for restoring economic order, cracking down on crime, and managing the city through 9/11, is praised for the changes he brought to New York City.
Many Mamdani voters told The Daily Wire they were “excited for change.” His all-female <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/mamdanis-transition-team-a-reflection-of-his-leftism">transition team</a> reportedly includes former officials from Mayor Bill de Blasio and President Joe Biden’s administrations.

NEW YORK—Zohran Mamdani, the radical socialist upstart whose primary victory shocked the nation, will be the next mayor of New York City.
Mamdani, an immigrant from Uganda who moved to Queens as a child, captivated the electorate with his youthful energy, unabashed leftism, and promise to make everything from city buses to childcare free for New Yorkers.
A half hour after polls closed, with just over 60% of the votes counted, Mamdani was leading with 49.6% of the vote. Independent candidate and former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo trailed with just over 41%. Curtis Sliwa, the Republican candidate and founder of the Guardian Angels, captured around 8% of the vote, at the time the race was called.
None of this was surprising. The Real Clear Polling average of polls had Mamdani leading former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, the independent candidate, by more than 14 points on the eve of the election, The Daily Wire’s Jennie Taer <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/on-the-eve-of-nycs-critical-mayoral-election-heres-what-the-latest-polls-say?author=Jennie+Taer&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=On+The+Eve+Of+NYC%E2%80%99s+Critical+Mayoral+Election%2C+Here%E2%80%99s+What+The+Latest+Polls+Say" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> this week.
Mamdani, a one-term assemblyman whose critics routinely slam him for his inexperience, now faces the challenge of governing a city with the eyes of the nation upon him. Mamdani has pledged to implement a number of policies — from a $30-an-hour minimum wage to city-run grocery stores — that he has no way of paying for without support from the New York State Assembly and Governor Kathy Hochul, who campaigned with him down the final stretch.
The fact that he likely won’t receive that support did nothing to deter voters. Some 2 million New Yorkers turned out to vote in this election, the largest turnout since 1969. More than 735,000 New Yorkers turned out for early voting, a record turnout, according to CBS News.
Mamdani came under national scrutiny for his calls to “globalize the intifada,&#8221; criticism of Israel, and Hamas sympathies. He has a complicated relationship with the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/dont-know-how-hes-still-in-office-new-york-congresswoman-slams-zohran-mamdani" target="_blank" rel="noopener">New York Police Department</a>, having called to defund the police. He was elected in large part with the help of first-time voters and New Yorkers who have lived in the city for less than a decade, ABC News <a href="https://x.com/CurtisHouck/status/1985895044000120909?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1985895044000120909%7Ctwgr%5Eaee175ae729717618b847afa6c918404424ab947%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fdashboard.arena.im%2Flive%2Ftc6wRVo" target="_blank" rel="noopener">noted</a>.
Critics say that electing Mamdani will cause a spike in crime and antisemitic incidents. Cuomo, whose mayoral campaign was an attempt to salvage a legacy tarnished by his mishandling of the coronavirus pandemic and allegations of sexual harassment, carried most of the city&#8217;s Jewish vote.
The Daily Wire has been on the ground in New York in the days leading up to the election, speaking to voters about their choice in candidates. Mamdani supporters <a href="https://x.com/StollBrecca/status/1985819225345364153" target="_blank" rel="noopener">touted</a> the socialist&#8217;s willingness to buck the Democratic establishment, though at least one Mamdani voter said that he would have reservations about his chosen candidate if he were Jewish.
One group that by and large opposed Mamdani: bus drivers, who fear a world in which the mayor-elect eliminates their fares.

In her longest podcast interview to date, former Vice President Kamala Harris told The Diary of a CEO podcaster Steven Bartlett on Thursday that sixteen-year-olds should be able to vote. 
The episode, titled “America Is At Breaking Point &amp; I’m Deeply Concerned About The State Of The Country!”, explored Harris’s views on rebuilding the Democratic Party, planning for 2028, how the former Vice President manages her stress, and more.
“I think we must invest in them,” Harris said while discussing the younger generation. “I think that they are rightly impatient with a lot of what is the tradition of leadership right now. And if they were able to vote right now, they’d be talking about the importance of climate.” 
The former vice president described Gen Z as the generation that has “only known” the climate crisis, “missed substantial parts of their education because of the pandemic,” and are very likely to have chosen a college major that may not result in a living wage.
“They’ve coined the term climate anxiety to describe fear of not only being able to buy a home but fear of being wiped out by extreme weather, [and] fear of having children,” she continued.
Harris argued that because younger Americans will live with the consequences of today’s policies for decades to come, they deserve a say in decisions that will have long-lasting impact. 
However, while serving as California’s Attorney General in 2014, Harris once argued against that very idea. She advocated that poor decisions made by 18-24-year-olds should be viewed in a different light, given that they are in a developmental stage.
“And it&#8217;s a specific phase of life, remember, age is more than a chronological fact. What else do we know about this population, 18-24?” Harris argued at the time. “They are stupid. That is why we put them in dormitories and they have a resident assistant. They make really bad decisions!”
“Since 2008, winning Democratic candidates have received <a href="https://www.npr.org/2024/11/07/g-s1-33331/unpacking-the-2024-youth-vote-heres-what-we-know-so-far">at least 60%</a> support from young voters,” NPR reported in 2024. 
In the 2024 Presidential election, young voters favored Kamala Harris <a href="https://now.tufts.edu/2024/11/12/young-voters-shifted-toward-trump-still-favored-harris-overall">52% to 46%</a>, but these numbers were down from the 2020 election. 
Harris won the youth female vote but lost the youth male vote. One of Kamala’s regrets was not going on Joe Rogan’s podcast.
“Trump got about 100 million views on Joe Rogan’s Show. Do you, in hindsight, wish you just put your foot down and said, ‘I&#8217;m going to go do it?&#8217;” Bartlett asked Harris during the podcast.
Kamala Harris claimed she wanted to do the podcast, but the tradeoff was losing campaign time in a swing state, as Joe Rogan wanted Kamala to come to his set in Austin. Rogan also wanted Kamala to do a three-hour interview, but Harris’s team only wanted to do one hour.

Harris said she would do Joe Rogan’s podcast if she were to run again. When asked if she would run again, Harris responded, “I think the case for running again is if I can make a difference. If I feel that I can offer something as president of the United States that would not only be uplifting to the American people, but would be about getting us on a correct trajectory.”

Patel did not disclose where exactly the attack was planned to take place or who was allegedly behind it, but he added that more details would be released soon.

The latest earnings reports from America&#8217;s top tech companies reveal that Silicon Valley is going all-in on artificial intelligence, sometimes in spite of users&#8217; concerns.
Financials from <a href="https://investor.atmeta.com/investor-events/">Meta</a>, <a href="https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/investor/earnings/fy-2026-q1/press-release-webcast">Microsoft</a>, and <a href="https://s206.q4cdn.com/479360582/files/doc_financials/2025/q3/2025q3-alphabet-earnings-release.pdf">Google</a> released Wednesday show that all three companies beat experts&#8217; earnings and revenue expectations. On earnings calls, all three companies pointed to increased AI investment, and increased spending in general. Google parent company Alphabet raised spending by about 7% for the year, Microsoft discussed spending above their original goal of 42% this year, and Meta discussed aggressive and substantial investment, but did not provide a specific number. 
“Across Facebook, Instagram, and Threads, our AI recommendation systems are delivering higher quality and more relevant content, which led to 5% more time spent on Facebook in Q3 and 10% on Threads,&#8221; Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said. &#8220;Video is a particular bright spot, with video time spent on Instagram up more than 30% since last year.&#8221;
This week also brought good news for the AI sector across the board. Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell on Wednesday told investors that he doesn’t see a bubble in the AI space, noting that artificial intelligence companies “have real earnings and business models,” rather than just &#8220;ideas.&#8221; As if to underscore that point, Nvidia, a major player in the AI space, became the world’s largest company in terms of market capitalization, reaching <a href="https://companiesmarketcap.com/nvidia/marketcap/">$5 trillion</a> in value.
This is good news for Big Tech. But is it good for America?

Beneath the AI hype and rosy growth numbers, Meta’s latest <a href="https://d18rn0p25nwr6d.cloudfront.net/CIK-0001326801/aa3d2e89-2568-4c4c-b3cc-6df47166435e.pdf">financial filing</a> reveals something darker: the company is facing tens of thousands of lawsuits alleging its apps are addictive and harmful.
“Beginning in January 2022, we became subject to litigation and other proceedings alleging that Facebook and Instagram cause &#8216;social media addiction&#8217; in users.”
The company noted the lawsuits are ongoing and that a “favorable outcome” for the company cannot be assured. 
“Substantially all of our revenue comes from advertising,” Meta reported to investors, noting that prominent revenue streams depend on users staying on Instagram and Facebook.
 “Advertising revenue could be adversely affected by decreases in user engagement, including time spent on our products.”
With AI investment accelerating across big tech, the coming quarters will show whether the technology continues to drive growth, as well as how companies like Meta, Microsoft, and Google balance innovation, profitability, and potential public scrutiny.
Meta did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
