New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has completed his tenant reach-out series, allowing him to start the process of crafting policy based on the testimonies his administration collected over the last six weeks.
Each week in a different borough of New York City, Mamdani invited renters to air their grievances about their landlords — one of Mamdani’s flagship initiatives. Within ninety days of the hearings, the Mayor’s Office of Tenant Protection, along with other agencies, will bring a joint report to Mamdani’s desk showcasing common themes they learned from tenants.
Mamdani’s team told renters that they wanted to hear about repairs, problems with rats, problems with heat, deceptive fees from landlords, and “ICE-related harassment in buildings.”
“Your testimony will directly inform policy changes to strengthen city policies to protect tenants,” an ad for the dubbed &#8220;Rental Ripoff&#8221; series stated.
The Daily Wire spoke to one of the tenants offering her testimony.
“I’ve been living in my apartment for over ten years. We didn’t have heat in the apartment most of the time for years. We had walls that were collapsing, a ceiling that’s collapsing, a horrific bug and rat infestation problem,” a female tenant, Abigail, said.
When asked why she remained in the apartment, she told The Daily Wire it was because it was rent stabilized. She pays $300 a month for her share of a three-bedroom apartment in Brooklyn. She said the total rent for the apartment was $900 monthly, while the average rent for a three-bedroom apartment in Brooklyn is <a href="https://www.apartments.com/rent-market-trends/brooklyn-ny/">$4,892</a> a month.
Abigail explained that she was a comic strip artist, so it was hard to find an affordable place to live. She hopes Mamdani keeps her rent frozen at $300 and that he mandates that her landlord fix all that is wrong with her apartment.

The Rental Ripoff hearings were led by Mamdani’s Director of Tenant Protection Cea Weaver — who infamously claimed that “Homeownership is a tool of white supremacy.” In her presentation, titled “New Yorkers vs. Bad Landlords,” Weaver told renters that the mayor’s office would use the feedback collected at the hearings to inform housing policy going forward.
New York real estate broker Adam Frisch warned The Daily Wire that the hearings are too one-sided. “They should pull from a combination of tenants, landlords, financiers, developers, and economists. Everybody looks at the situation with their own biases, and it’s the role of the mayor to sit down with tenants and landlords and say I know you’re both unhappy. Let’s see what we can do.”
Landlords blame rent stabilization for the poor conditions of certain apartments. Without the ability to raise rent, they say, they are unable to generate sufficient revenue to maintain their buildings.
Pinnacle Group, a major New York landlord, filed for bankruptcy in 2025, claiming that the “sharp increase in financing costs outpaced rental revenue, which could not be correspondingly increased due to rent stabilization.”

Harris made the remarks while speaking with Rev. Al Sharpton, where she also confirmed she is considering another run for president in 2028. 
&#8220;I&#8217;m thinking about it,&#8221; Harris said, adding that her decision will depend on whether she believes she is the best person for the job.
“I spent countless hours in my West Wing office, footsteps away from the Oval Office. Countless hours in the Oval Office and the Situation Room,&#8221; she said. &#8220;I know what the job is and I know what it requires.” 
Harris also emphasized her broader message to voters, arguing that Americans are frustrated with government inefficiency. Drawing on her travels across the country, she said people “don’t want process, they want progress,” and stressed a need to cut government bureaucracy.
Speculation about Harris’s 2028 plans has grown in recent months, particularly after she declined to run for governor of California. That decision was widely seen as keeping the door open for a presidential bid. 
While news of Harris possibly running again excited conservatives eager to see another &#8220;failed presidential run,&#8221; Sharpton praised her during the interview, telling the audience that Democrats had already effectively chosen her when they voted for President Joe Biden. 
“When we ended up with President Biden stepping back, there were some that said we need a primary, and we said we already had it. When we voted for Biden, we voted for Harris.” 
She went on to rip Trump&#8217;s SAVE America Act, equating it to a poll tax and urging voters to check their registration status, claiming Trump has &#8220;cleaned voter rolls.&#8221;

Inflation ticked up to 3.3% in March, according to data released Friday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. 
The March Consumer Price Index report is the first to reflect the impact of the conflict with Iran. While the 3.3% reading was in line with expectations, inflation had been at 2.4% and on a downward trend prior to the U.S. strikes.
Energy prices saw the largest increase, rising 10.9%, the biggest monthly jump since 2005. Gas prices are now above <a href="https://gasprices.aaa.com/">$4</a> a gallon, while diesel is just over <a href="https://gasprices.aaa.com/">$5</a>. Food prices, however, remained stable despite disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, through which roughly one-fifth of the world’s oil supply flows. Rising energy costs are a key driver of inflation, as they affect the price of goods and services across the economy.
White House spokesperson Kush Desai said the administration expected inflationary pressures tied to Operation Epic Fury. 
“President Trump has always been clear about short-term disruptions as a result of Operation Epic Fury, disruptions that the Administration has been diligently working to mitigate,” he <a href="https://x.com/KushDesai47/status/2042589657506922706">said</a>. “Although gas and energy prices are seeing volatility, prices of eggs, beef, prescription drugs, dairy, and other household essentials are falling or remain stable thanks to President Trump’s policies.” 
Desai added that the administration is working to ensure the free flow of energy through the Strait of Hormuz and that the economy can handle the disruption due to its “supply-side agenda of tax cuts, deregulation, and energy abundance.”
Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, who served under the Biden administration, told CNBC that the Trump administration&#8217;s policies are contributing to rising prices.
“As feared, inflation is up,” he said, adding that the administration is actively making prices higher through tariffs and the war.
Inflation peaked at 9.1% under the Biden administration. March’s reading is the highest level of inflation under the Trump administration.

An Indiana lawmaker&#8217;s home was shot weeks after left-wing activist groups targeted him, social media posts reviewed by The Daily Wire show.
Just days after City Councilor Rob Gibson announced his support for a proposed data center in the Martindale Brightwood neighborhood, a gunman fired 13 times at his house, where Gibson and his family, including his 8-year-old son, were sleeping. A note that read “No Data Centers” was left at his front door. 
Social media posts reviewed by The Daily Wire show organizers encouraging residents to contact Gibson to opposed the data center. In one post, activists urged supporters to call residents and connect them with Gibson&#8217;s office to voice their concerns. The Indivisible Chapter for Central Indiana&#8217;s Facebook page urged allies to &#8220;bring a smartphone + charger,&#8221; adding, &#8220;Our dialing system provides scripts.&#8221; The group offered two days to join in for phone calls with “multiple slots” for people to sign up.

The group’s post on X was even more hostile towards Gibson. “There is no support for it [the data center], but Councilor Rob Gibson is committed to delivering on behalf of the developer.” The group added they had spoken with hundreds of residents and &#8220;mobilized with community partners to oppose this project.”

According to the report, Indivisible received <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/left-wing-foreign-billionaires-fund-groups-trying-to-cripple-ai-infrastructure">$7.5</a> million and the Sierra Club received <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/left-wing-foreign-billionaires-fund-groups-trying-to-cripple-ai-infrastructure">$2.1</a> million. 
Founder of the American Energy Institute Jason Isaac said, &#8220;When organizations name officials, script pressure campaigns, and mobilize activists against specific individuals, it raises serious concerns about escalation and the potential for intimidation.&#8221; He told the Daily Wire the Department of Justice should investigate for signs of coordination after his report showed &#8220;which Isaac said showed a &#8220;coordinated network of activist groups backed by tens of millions of dollars in foreign funding, organizing targeted campaigns against policymakers at the local level.&#8221;
The data center has been controversial with months of protests against the project, which is set to be built on an old drive-in movie theater between two residential streets. Metrobloks is planning to build two large buildings, a parking lot, backup generators, and cooling systems. Representatives from Metrobloks argue the data center will help the community by expanding the local tax base and bringing an estimated $500 million to the neighborhood. The company stated they would also cover the infrastructure and utility costs so the burden didn’t fall on local taxpayers. 
Community organizers cite concerns with air pollution, rising electricity costs, and other environmental issues. The Sierra Club Hoosier Chapter said they were &#8220;advocating on behalf of the environment, the climate, and our communities.&#8221;

The market reacted sharply after President Donald Trump announced a two-week ceasefire, sending crude oil prices lower and U.S. stock futures higher.
West Texas Intermediate Crude, the United States oil benchmark, fell about 17.5% to roughly $94 a barrel, while Brent Crude dropped 15.5% to about $92 a barrel. Dow Jones Industrial Average Futures and S&amp;P 500 futures each rose by about 3%, while Nasdaq 100 futures climbed 3.5%. 
Trump said the ceasefire is contingent on Iran reopening the Strait of Hormuz. 
“For a period of two weeks, safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz will be possible via coordination with Iran’s Armed Forces and with due consideration of technical limitations,” Iran said in a statement Tuesday night. 
According to the marine vessel Hormuz Strait ship tracker, traffic has not fully resumed through the strait. However, Trump said the United States “will be helping with the traffic buildup” and that there “will be lots of positive action.” 
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth seemed to dismiss Iran’s claims that coordination with Iran’s Armed Forces would be required. “We know Iran says a lot of things,” said Hegseth at a Wednesday morning briefing. “Commerce will flow through the strait.” 
Experts say crude prices could fall even further as shipping resumes through the Strait, which handles roughly one-fifth of the world&#8217;s oil supply. 
U.S. stocks are still up even after Trump announced a 50% tariff on “any and all goods” from countries supplying military weapons to Iran with “no exclusions or exemptions.” 
Stocks were already on the rebound from session lows after Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shebaz Sharif asked Trump to extend his Tuesday 8 pm ET deadline by two weeks and to have Iran open the Strait of Hormuz. The conflict with Iran has pushed gas prices above $4 a gallon for the first time since 2022, with crude oil prices up more than 70% on the year.

When asked whether it could help prepare a 2025 tax return, Elon Musk&#8217;s Grok cautioned against using AI for filing, saying models &#8220;miscalculate refunds by thousands on average,&#8221; and instead recommended software like TurboTax or a licensed professional.
&#8220;Not a good idea for actually preparing or filing your 2025 return,&#8221; Grok responded. &#8220;Tax code is too complex and changes yearly — AI (including me) often hallucinates details or misses nuances, leading to errors that could trigger IRS issues.&#8221;
The Daily Wire checked with other leading platforms, including Google&#8217;s Gemini, OpenAI&#8217;s ChatGPT, and Anthropic&#8217;s Claude, using the same prompt. They offered similar guidance, saying they can help explain tax concepts but should not be used. 
&#8220;It is highly discouraged to use generative AI like me, ChatGPT, or similar platforms to actually prepare or calculate your tax returns,” Gemini warned. ChatGPT advised using it as “your helper” but not “your tax preparer.” Claude agreed, blaming nuanced tax laws. 
Across platforms, chatbots cited similar concerns, warning that AI can make mistakes, lack full financial context, and miss important edge cases. But the more significant issue is liability: if the IRS finds errors in a return, the person who files it, not the software or AI, is responsible for any additional taxes, penalties, and interest.
Traditional tax software such as TurboTax or H&amp;R Block operates similarly, with users responsible for the information submitted. That risk is why many taxpayers opt to pay more for a CPA or licensed tax preparer, who can assume some professional liability if given accurate information.
While chatbots discourage using AI to file returns, they recommend using it as a “smart assistant” to explain tax concepts and stay organized. AI tools can help users understand forms like a 1099 versus a W-2, clarify deductions, and translate complex language from tax software into simpler terms. 
However, those capabilities come without legal accountability, a concern lawmakers are beginning to address. In New York, proposed legislation would restrict AI tools from offering legal or financial advice, including tax guidance, without proper oversight. Critics argue the bill&#8217;s broad language could limit even basic, useful responses.
“The problem is evident in the bill’s operative provision,” said Oliver Roberts, an adjunct law professor at Washington University. “Subsection 2(a) prohibits a chatbot proprietor from &#8216;permit[ting]&#8217; a chatbot to provide any &#8216;substantive response, information, or advice.&#8217;”

Tax an individual enough and they will vote with their feet, warned JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon in his annual shareholder letter on Monday. 
Dimon’s already making the move for JPMorgan Chase by employing more people in his Dallas office than in the company’s New York City headquarters. The banker added that the trend will only continue. Over the past decade, JPMorgan has reduced its New York City headcount from 30,000 to 24,000, while expanding its Texas ranks from 26,000 to 32,000. Dimon acknowledged that New York remains a strong hub for financial talent, but said high costs are one of the firm’s biggest challenges.
“No city or company or country has a divine right to success,” wrote the CEO in his annual shareholder letter. “People like to make this a moral or loyalty issue, but it is not.”
Dimon framed the issue not as politics, but as basic economics. “Companies need to remain competitive in this very competitive, fast-moving world. Higher taxes mean lower returns on capital and less competitiveness by their nature.”
He also drew a comparison to New York in the 1970s, when “nearly half of the 125 Fortune 500 companies based in New York City left.” While mergers played a role during that era’s surge in dealmaking, Dimon argued that “the price of doing business in New York City accounted for most” of the departures. The exodus of major employers contributed to the city’s fiscal crisis and near-bankruptcy in 1975, eroding its tax base.
The 2026 exodus isn’t limited to JPMorgan. The influx of financial firms has earned the city the nickname “Y’all Street.”
Dimon warned that the trend is likely to accelerate, potentially worsening an already fragile moment for New York City. While he did not mention him by name, his comments come as newly elected Mayor Zohran Mamdani advocates for higher taxes on wealthy individuals and corporations. Less than a month into office, Mamdani floated raising property taxes to address what he described as a multibillion-dollar budget gap comparable to the Great Recession. He has also pushed Governor Kathy Hochul to raise the corporate tax rate from 7.25% to 11.5% and add a 2% tax on incomes above $1 million.
When Mamdani won his election, Dimon opened the communication lines by calling the newly elected mayor. Poised to be the largest initial public offering (IPO) of all time, SpaceX’s IPO is expected to break with tradition through a reworked roadshow and an outsized allocation to retail investors. Public market does *not* like erratic cash flow haha. I’m a huge fan of small retail investors. Will make sure they get top priority. You can hold me to it,&#8221; Musk said. Starlink is a division of SpaceX. 
Musk <a href="https://x.com/elonmusk/status/2039046398566625501">posted</a> “stand by me” Tuesday on X, the day before reports emerged that SpaceX had filed paperwork with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). CNBC reports that the billionaire is considering reserving as much as 30% of SpaceX’s IPO for individual investors. Typically, retail investors are allocated about 5 to 10% of shares. Musk also appears to be breaking from the competitive IPO bank selection process by turning to trusted relationships.
Chairman of Investment Banking at Morgan Stanley, Michael Grimes, is expected to lead the IPO. He’s worked with Musk before, helping him take Tesla public in 2010 and Twitter private in 2022. Reporting says that Musk submitted a confidential filing, which allows the company to submit its financials to the SEC for regulatory review before the public and prospective investors are able to view. At least fifteen days before the IPO roadshow, SpaceX will have to release a public filing, where investors will be able to review the company&#8217;s financials, business model, and key risks.
The Wall Street Journal reports Musk will do something nontraditional with the roadshow. Normally, executives hit the road to meet investors, but Musk wants investors to travel to SpaceX, where they can view its manufacturing facilities and potentially witness rocket launches.
Musk’s primary goal for SpaceX is to make human consciousness multi-planetary. He hopes to eventually establish a colony on Mars.
SpaceX owns Starlink, and as of February 2, xAI. SpaceX is planning to construct data centers in space using SpaceX rockets to build out the structure. The power generated from these orbital data centers could help satisfy the enormous energy demands of xAI, depending on whether the technology operates as Musk predicts. Musk has previously stated, &#8220;If we harness even a billionth of the Sun’s power for AI/robotics, it will be a 1000X return.”

California Governor Gavin Newsom’s &#8220;first partner&#8221; Jennifer Siebel Newsom is going viral after a video resurfaced in which she said she gives her sons dolls and changes male protagonists in books to female protagonists when reading to her children.
The resurfaced conversation comes from a 2019 interview with the Los Angeles City Council President Nury Martinez honoring Women’s History Month. 
“I’ve given our boys dolls … to learn that care and caregiving is not just an activity reserved for women but is also an activity that is a responsibility for men,” she said. Later in the interview, she added, “If I’m reading a book and the protagonist is a male, I just change the he to a she.” She said it normalizes women being the star of a story and that “women matter and women are interesting.”
Her comments were quick to draw criticism from the Right.
Conservative commentator Allie Beth Stuckey said, &#8220;Being a boy isn&#8217;t a disease that needs to be cured. Masculinity is a strength that needs to be fostered and encouraged.&#8221;
Fox New&#8217;s Tomi Lahren added, &#8220;I told yall the other night on Watters PrimeTime as bad as Gavin is, the wife will be the woke weight on his ankles.&#8221;
Popular commentator Link Lauren said, &#8220;I&#8217;e sounded the alarm for years. Jennifer is on eof the most radical women in public life. Imagine how she is behind closed doors if this is what she says publicly.&#8221;
The Daily Wire obtained the interview in its entirety and found that in addition to her parental advice, Siebel Newsom said conservative politics conflict with viewing women as equal.
“I grew up revering Ronald Reagan … my father did, so therefore we did,” she said. “My dad has always been the biggest champion of women, especially marginalized and vulnerable women, but unfortunately his politics led him in a direction that is sort of in conflict with seeing women as equal.”
She also <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7_5zEr_OuM">blames</a> California’s K-shaped economy on the “devaluation of all that we’ve feminized.”
“Everything that we’ve feminized in American culture — whether entire industries like education, health care, etc., or just attributes like empathy, care, and collaboration — because of the devaluation of all that we’ve feminized, we actually have this incredible inequitable system whereby socioeconomic mobility has never been as poor.” She added that “with California, for example, being the richest and poorest state in our country, we know that we have a lot of work to do to ensure that every California resident achieves not just the American dream, but the California dream.”
Siebel Newsom concluded, saying this is a policy she’ll champion as &#8220;first partner&#8221; of California, a title she created, explaining that she sees it as a more inclusive alternative to the traditional title of “first lady.”
It’s not the first time critics have questioned the first partner’s beliefs and word choices. Siebel Newsom even mentioned her husband has at times been a critic. “Every once in a while, he’ll [Governor Gavin Newsom] say, ‘That’s not really helpful that you said that,’ and I’m like, ‘I know, I’m sorry,’ but it’s the truth and I’m always going to speak the truth, and I’m always a mama and I always care about not just my children, but California’s children, and I’m always going to advocate for women.”
CNN’s Scott Jennings has <a href="https://www.instagram.com/reel/DWjVVMgAtfI/">argued</a> Siebel Newsom will be a problem for the governor of California if he chooses to run for president in 2028. Jennings made his remarks after Siebel Newsom discussed traveling to red states to learn about racism and misogyny.

President Donald Trump made the largest military spending request in history on Friday, with a proposed budget for the 2027 fiscal year of $1.5 trillion in defense spending, of which $1.1 trillion would be allocated for the Department of War and $350 billion specifically for critical munitions.
The record request was announced in January after former Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro’s capture, but before the United States launched attacks on Iran. To pay for the uptick in defense spending, the White House proposes to reduce non-defense spending by 10%.
The White House says the spending request reflects the current global threat environment and restores the readiness and lethality of the United States military. The money would also include a salary increase for all military personnel, with junior enlisted members receiving the largest salary bump at 7%. Mid-level service members, E-6 to O-3, would receive a 6% pay raise, and higher-ranking officers would receive a 5% raise. The White House predicts the increase will help with service member retention and recruiting efforts.
Funds would also be directed to the construction of the United States’ “Golden Dome,” which would be similar to Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system. The Golden Dome would track missiles through launch, in midcourse, and on their descent, potentially using space-based technology to intercept missiles. Unlike Israel’s Iron Dome, America’s Golden Dome would aim to stop long-range missiles and potentially hypersonic weapons, which are a growing concern posed by adversaries like China, Russia, and North Korea. 
The budget would also focus on “making shipbuilding great again,” adding 18 battle force ships and 16 non-battle force ships to the United States naval fleet. By ship count, <a href="https://www.usamm.com/blogs/news/ships-us-navy">China</a> currently has the largest navy, with the United States in second place.
Another large category of investment will be in critical mineral stockpiles. Currently, the United States Department of the Interior lists 60 minerals as critical, of which 15 are rare earth elements. The list ranges from aluminum to zinc, and the push reflects a broader strategy Trump employed in global negotiations. The president pushed to bring steel and aluminum production back to the United States while also taking a stake in MP Materials, which is the only fully integrated rare earth producer in America. Rare earth minerals are used in magnets and batteries, as well as defense applications and AI chips, making them a national security priority.
One of the Senate’s most prominent fiscal hawks, Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI), told The Daily Wire: “With total debt approaching $39 trillion, reduced spending in other areas will be required,” and &#8220;aggressively eliminating the $700 billion to $1 trillion in annual fraud would be the primary target.”
Johnson sees the road to getting the president’s request passed before the fiscal year begins on October 1 as challenging.
“Even though defense of our nation is the top priority of the government, Democrats will not support the president’s request,” said Johnson. The senator sees two paths ahead: Republicans voting to end the filibuster or pursuing a reconciliation appropriation process to get Republican votes.
If Republicans take the nuclear option, they would be able to pass bills with a simple majority of 51 votes instead of 60. The reconciliation appropriation process would also be challenging due to the Byrd Rule, which allows senators to block or remove parts of a reconciliation deal. A provision can be stripped out unless 60 senators vote to keep it, and with Republicans holding 53 seats, the road to 60 would be challenging.
President Trump signaled on Wednesday that defense spending is a top priority. “We’re fighting wars. It’s not possible for us to take care of day care, Medicaid, Medicare—all these individual things. They can do it on a state basis. You can’t do it on a federal.”
The federal government currently runs a deficit of $2 trillion. 
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said the initial plan was for him to raise the United States&#8217; revenue by $1 trillion and for Elon Musk to reduce waste, fraud, and abuse by spending $1 trillion to balance the budget. Lutnick and Trump launched tariffs to increase revenue and created the gold card, which charges foreigners <a href="https://www.trumpcard.gov/">$1 million</a> for United States residency on the condition of background check approval. Revenues and spending cuts have fallen short of these expectations, creating tensions around increased military spending amid a runaway budget.

Employers in the United States added <a href="https://www.bls.gov/news.release/archives/empsit_04032026.htm">178,000</a> jobs in March, more than tripling expectations of  <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2026/04/02/the-march-jobs-report-will-be-released-on-friday-heres-what-to-expect.html">59,000</a>, while the unemployment rate dropped to 4.3%.        
The labor market rebounded after a lackluster February report, which showed payrolls declined by 133,000 jobs and the unemployment rate rose slightly. Job gains in March were led by healthcare, construction, transportation, and warehouse. Healthcare added 76,000 jobs. About half of those gains reflect the return of workers who had been on strike.

Construction added 26,000 jobs, while transportation and warehousing grew by 21,000, signaling continued strength in infrastructure and logistics-related sectors. Leisure and hospitality rebounded partly due to warmer weather last month, adding 44,000 jobs. Manufacturing added 15,000, but finance lost that same amount.
Federal government employment continued to decline, falling by 18,000 jobs in March and down 355,000 from its peak in October 2024 during the Biden administration.
Wages also continued to rise. Average hourly earnings increased by 0.2% in March to $37.38, following gains in February. 
Markets are closed today for Good Friday, but the stronger-than-expected jobs report may influence investor expectations when trading resumes. A resilient labor market could also reduce pressure on the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates, as the central bank has pointed to persistently elevated inflation as a reason to hold off on easing policy.
