The Department of Justice (DOJ) will begin handing over documents regarding deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein to Congress by the end of the week, House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY) announced on Monday.
Comer shared the development one day before the deadline listed in the <a href="https://oversight.house.gov/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/2025.08.05-Subpoena-and-Schedule-to-DOJ.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">subpoena</a> he issued to the DOJ.
“Officials with the Department of Justice have informed us that the Department will begin to provide Epstein-related records to the Oversight Committee this week on Friday,&#8221; Comer said in a statement.
&#8220;There are many records in DOJ’s custody, and it will take the Department time to produce all the records and ensure the identification of victims and any child sexual abuse material are redacted,&#8221; he added. &#8220;I appreciate the Trump Administration’s commitment to transparency and efforts to provide the American people with information about this matter.&#8221;
A spokesperson for the DOJ declined to comment.
Comer <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/congress-subpoenas-clintons-doj-records-and-former-officials-in-sweeping-epstein-investigation" target="_blank" rel="noopener">subpoenaed</a> the DOJ on August 5, the same day he issued subpoenas demanding Epstein-related testimony from former President Bill Clinton, his wife and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and several ex-law enforcement leaders on dates ranging from mid-August to mid-October.

The Oversight Committee also issued a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/house-subpoenas-epstein-associate-ghislaine-maxwell">subpoena</a> to Ghislaine Maxwell, who is serving <a href="https://www.justice.gov/usao-sdny/pr/ghislaine-maxwell-sentenced-20-years-prison-conspiring-jeffrey-epstein-sexually-abuse">a 20-year prison sentence</a> after being found guilty of conspiring with Epstein to sexually abuse underage girls, but has yet to finalize details for a deposition after she <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ghislaine-maxwell-sends-congress-list-of-demands-for-deposition" target="_blank" rel="noopener">demanded</a> immunity and other &#8220;conditions.&#8221;
All of the subpoenas were approved by members of the Oversight Committee before Comer sent them out.
Epstein, a wealthy financier and convicted sex offender, was found dead at the age of 66 in his New York City jail cell in 2019 — after being arrested on sex trafficking charges involving young girls. In addition to the Clintons, Epstein had connections to a variety of high-profile people, including President Donald Trump. The Clintons and Trump have sought to distance themselves from Epstein over the years.
In his <a href="https://oversight.house.gov/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/2025.08.05-Subpoena-Cover-Letters.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">cover letters</a>, Comer explained how the Clinton family &#8220;appears to have had a close relationship&#8221; with Epstein and Maxwell. To the former law enforcement heads, the chairman noted the various ways the FBI and DOJ were involved in investigations, litigation, and other matters related to Epstein and Maxwell during their tenures.
The first deposition took place on Monday with former Attorney General William Barr, who was cooperative while answering questions from both Republican and Democratic staff and members, a source familiar with the matter told The Daily Wire.
Barr made clear that Trump never provided any views or instructions related to the criminal case against Epstein or his death, and that he never saw any evidence suggesting Trump committed a crime, according to the source, who added that Barr further stated that he believed the Biden DOJ would have released any incriminating evidence against Trump if such evidence existed.
The Daily Wire confirmed with a House Oversight Committee aide that the panel intends to withdraw its subpoena to former FBI Director Robert Mueller, who also served as special counsel of the Trump-Russia investigation from 2017 to 2019, because it learned that health issues preclude him from being able to testify. The Daily Caller was the first to <a href="https://dailycaller.com/2025/08/18/robert-mueller-house-oversight-committee-subpoena-james-comer-jeffrey-epstein-fbi/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> the development.
Lawmakers have increasingly pushed for transparency after the DOJ claimed it had no evidence that Epstein had a client list, blackmailed powerful people, or was murdered — despite earlier <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/shes-great-trump-backs-bondi-wants-top-officials-to-end-conflict-over-epstein" target="_blank" rel="noopener">hints</a> from Attorney General Pam Bondi that major bombshells would be revealed.
At the behest of Trump, who has argued that people are falling for a “hoax” spun by the Democrats, Bondi asked multiple judges to unseal grand jury testimony from the cases against Epstein and Maxwell. So far, those requests have been denied.
The DOJ held a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/justice-department-meets-with-ghislaine-maxwell" target="_blank" rel="noopener">meeting</a> with Maxwell in July.

As the Trump administration is looking into whether aides improperly used autopen to sign off on executive actions in an effort to conceal Biden&#8217;s health issues, Bartiromo asked Martin if the pardons were legitimate.

As an example, Schmitt took aim at Jake Sullivan, the national security adviser under former President Joe Biden who had also been interviewed on the program on Sunday.
&#8220;I mean, you just had Jake Sullivan on,&#8221; Schmitt said. &#8220;Jake Sullivan just presided over, in the last four years, the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan, the invasion of Ukraine by Russia that he&#8217;s now critical about President Trump.&#8221;
Sullivan also <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/top-biden-adviser-bragged-of-quiet-middle-east-one-week-before-hamas-attacked-israel" target="_blank" rel="noopener">bragged</a> in October 2023 about the Middle East region being &#8220;quieter&#8221; than it had been in two decades — just days before Hamas launched a deadly attack on Israel.
&#8220;So, these Wilsonian adventurers who think America can be everywhere all at once all the time have been wrong about everything,&#8221; Schmitt said.
Democrats have argued that Trump is being played by Putin, but Schmitt rejected the idea that a peace agreement is not attainable just because the Alaska meeting did not immediately end the conflict.
&#8220;I look at this from a realistic point of view,&#8221; he said. &#8220;The diplomacy that President Trump is engaging in, which has been very successful since he took office, is about engaging people that, you know, maybe aren&#8217;t your best friends in the world, but you&#8217;re trying to get to a peace deal. That&#8217;s exactly what this was.&#8221;
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European leaders are expected to huddle with Trump at the White House on Monday. Another meeting with Putin could follow.
&#8220;It&#8217;s going to take time,&#8221; Schmitt said. &#8220;So, that meeting led to the next meeting, which is going to happen on Monday, which will likely lead to the next meeting. That&#8217;s how that typically works. I think for some people so used to the 24-hour news cycle, maybe that isn&#8217;t fast enough, but that&#8217;s how the real-world works.&#8221;
Schmitt contended Trump is trying to be a uniter, unlike Biden.
&#8220;We just didn&#8217;t see that the last four years. Joe Biden was out to lunch and his only plan was to send $200 billion of American taxpayer funds over there without a plan,&#8221; he said. &#8220;And so President Trump, I think, is seeking peace. He&#8217;s bringing the parties together. And that&#8217;s what diplomacy is all about. That should always be our first option, and that&#8217;s where we&#8217;re at right now.&#8221;

President Donald Trump&#8217;s takeover of police in Washington, D.C., to fight crime in the nation&#8217;s capital may extend beyond a month if Congress passes a measure unveiled this week by a House Republican.
The &#8220;Capital Emergency Control Act of 2025,&#8221; which Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN) revealed on Wednesday, would do away with the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/why-congress-holds-the-key-to-extending-trumps-d-c-police-takeover" target="_blank" rel="noopener">30-day limit</a> that is written in Section 740 of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act.
&#8220;President Trump has rightly declared a national emergency in Washington, D.C. — a city its own government has surrendered to chaos. Under current law, the President can only federalize D.C. for thirty days,&#8221; Ogles <a href="https://x.com/RepOgles/status/1955780086478655966" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in a post on X. &#8220;I’m introducing a resolution to amend the D.C. Home Rule Act so the President can extend this emergency as long as it takes, until our Capitol is taken back and its streets are safe. Congress must defend the President, and our Country.&#8221;
On Monday, Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/were-gonna-take-our-capital-back-heres-everything-trump-is-going-to-do-to-clean-up-d-c" target="_blank" rel="noopener">invoked</a> Section 740, which allowed him to direct the D.C. mayor to provide him the services of the Metropolitan Police Department. The president then notified Congress of his intention to keep the emergency he invoked until it is no longer needed or reaches the &#8220;maximum period&#8221; allowed. As it stands, Section 740 says anything beyond 30 days would require Congress to pass a joint resolution that authorizes the extension.
The measure from Ogles would get rid of the time restraint provision and give the president room to hold onto control of D.C. police for additional periods of up to 30 days — if relevant committees are informed and provided a reason for why the emergency situation persists at each interval. Language that says lawmakers could vote for a joint resolution that ends the authority remains intact.

Federal officials <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/d-c-crime-crackdown-update-authorities-arrest-dozens-more-including-suspected-illegal-immigrants" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> dozens of arrests have been made since Trump&#8217;s D.C. police takeover began. Top Republicans, including House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) and Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD), have <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/why-congress-holds-the-key-to-extending-trumps-d-c-police-takeover" target="_blank" rel="noopener">expressed</a> approval of the operation. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) issued a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/why-congress-holds-the-key-to-extending-trumps-d-c-police-takeover" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a> on Thursday criticizing the resolution from Ogles that could prolong the takeover.
“D.C. pays more federal taxes per capita than any state and more federal taxes overall than 19 states, while being denied the same voting representation in Congress or full local self-government accorded to residents of the 50 states,&#8221; Norton <a href="https://norton.house.gov/media/press-releases/norton-statement-after-rep-ogles-announces-bill-allow-president-extend" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in a statement. &#8220;I will do everything in my power to block this bill’s progress and passage and prevent D.C. from suffering additional indignities at the hands of the federal government.&#8221;
Earlier this year, Ogles <a href="https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/house-bill/1089/text" target="_blank" rel="noopener">introduced</a> a bill called the “Bringing Oversight to Washington and Safety to Every Resident Act” or the “BOWSER Act,&#8221; a nod to D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser. If passed, the legislation would repeal the Home Rule Act, which beyond Section 740 allows the district a limited amount of self-governance. Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) introduced the same measure in the upper chamber.
&#8220;The radically progressive regime of D.C. Mayor Bowser has left our nation’s Capital in crime-ridden shambles. Washington is now known for its homicides, rapes, drug overdoses, violence, theft, and homelessness. Pelosi&#8217;s well-known success in the stock market during her time in Congress has drawn intense scrutiny, but it may not be examined by the Securities and Exchange Commission or be a focus of any formal investigation any time soon. In fact, just last month, senators <a href="https://x.com/SenRickScott/status/1950637197272727566" target="_blank" rel="noopener">shot down</a> a measure seeking an inquiry into her trades.
During a recent appearance on CNN, Pelosi <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nancy-pelosi-visibly-perturbed-by-cnns-random-act-of-journalism" target="_blank" rel="noopener">responded</a> to Trump accusing her of insider trading, rejecting the claim.

&#8220;The House and the Senate, they&#8217;re supposed to be working for the American people — their constituents,&#8221; Bessent said. &#8220;They&#8217;re supposed to be making law. Former Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) is ready to run for office again after losing his Senate seat to Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-OH) in the 2024 election amid reported controversies.
Brown will challenge Sen. Jon Husted (R-OH) in the 2026 election, cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer first <a href="https://www.cleveland.com/news/2025/08/sherrod-brown-to-run-for-us-senate-in-2026-challenging-jon-husted.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> on Tuesday, citing Ohio labor leaders. As of press time, Brown had not formally announced his campaign, but other news outlets have confirmed his plans.
In a story published last month, Brown told <a href="https://www.semafor.com/article/07/03/2025/former-ohio-sen-sherrod-brown-weighs-next-political-move" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Semafor</a> that &#8220;everything&#8217;s on the table&#8221; while &#8220;talking to family and friends&#8221; and deciding whether he “want[s] to get back in and do this.&#8221; He also said, &#8220;I’m concerned about the direction of my state; I’m concerned about the direction of my country. So I don’t know.&#8221;
Brown, a former Ohio secretary of state and congressman, first <a href="https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/politics-july-dec06-oh_sen_11-07" target="_blank" rel="noopener">won election</a> to the Senate in 2006 against incumbent Mike DeWine, who went on to become governor. During his three terms in the Senate, Brown served as chairman of the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs.

In the 2024 election, Brown ran for a fourth term against Moreno, a businessman who was endorsed by now-President Donald Trump. Estimates show roughly <a href="https://apnews.com/article/election-2024-senate-ohio-brown-moreno-74c4b91e5866215d4201377fefcadad0" target="_blank" rel="noopener">$500 million</a> was spent on that Senate contest, which POLITICO <a href="https://www.politico.com/live-updates/2024/11/05/2024-election-results-live-coverage-updates-analysis/bernie-moreno-wins-ohio-senate-00185143" target="_blank" rel="noopener">dubbed</a> the most expensive non-presidential election in U.S. history.
Moreno <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2024/11/05/us/elections/results-ohio-us-senate.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">defeated</a> Brown 50.1%-46.5%. Trump&#8217;s margin of victory over then-Vice President Kamala Harris in Ohio was much larger, with the <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2024/11/05/us/elections/results-ohio.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">final </a>results coming in at 55.2%-43.9%.
Brown will now face off against Husted, who was selected by Governor DeWine to temporarily replace JD Vance after he <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/vice-president-elect-jd-vance-submits-resignation-from-senate" target="_blank" rel="noopener">resigned</a> from his seat in the Senate in order to become vice president. The winner will serve out the remainder of the term that ends in 2029.
Axios <a href="https://www.axios.com/2025/07/28/schumer-sherrod-brown-ohio-senate-meeting-2026" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) had been urging Brown to get back in the ring, a push that comes as Democrats hope to retake control of the upper chamber. But Husted&#8217;s team shrugged off the pending challenge.
&#8220;Should Brown enter the race as Schumer&#8217;s handpicked candidate he will be starting in the biggest hole of his political career,&#8221; Husted campaign spokesman Tyson Shepard <a href="https://x.com/jpelzer/status/1955287609938190756" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in a statement posted to X by Jeremy Pelzer, the reporter who broke the story.
&#8220;He has never faced a candidate like Jon Husted,&#8221; Pelzer continued. &#8220;Brown&#8217;s slogans will ring hollow as his coalition walks away, tired of the radical policies he&#8217;s forced to support to appease his coastal bosses in California and New York.&#8221;

Congress will have a significant role to play if President Donald Trump wants to extend his takeover of the police in Washington, D.C., to crack down on crime for more than a month.
Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/were-gonna-take-our-capital-back-heres-everything-trump-is-going-to-do-to-clean-up-d-c" target="_blank" rel="noopener">invoked</a> Section 740 of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act and declared a public emergency on Monday. Under the law, Trump is allowed to direct the D.C. mayor to provide him the services of the Metropolitan Police Department.
However, the Home Rule Act says the president is allowed to initially use this power for up to 48 hours. If the president wants to extend that authority for 30 days, relevant committees in Congress must be notified with an explanation of the need and expected time duration.
Indeed, Trump wrote a <a href="https://x.com/GOPoversight/status/1954985007002403074" target="_blank" rel="noopener">letter</a> on Monday to the House Oversight Committee saying he needed to address violent crime in D.C. He noted the emergency would continue until he determined it was no longer needed or lasted for the &#8220;maximum period&#8221; allowed under Section 740.
Any period beyond 30 days would require Congress to pass a joint resolution that authorizes the extension. Presently, Republicans control both chambers of Congress. The GOP leaders of the House and Senate have both expressed approval of Trump&#8217;s D.C. police takeover.
&#8220;Every American should be able to visit and enjoy Washington, D.C. without fear. House Republicans support this effort to CLEAN UP Washington, END the crime wave, and RESTORE the beauty of the greatest capital in the world,&#8221; House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) <a href="https://x.com/SpeakerJohnson/status/1954951828338102476" target="_blank" rel="noopener">declared</a> in a post on X.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) <a href="https://x.com/LeaderJohnThune/status/1954989497290285409" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>, &#8220;I’m grateful for [Trump&#8217;s] leadership and for this administration’s commitment to protecting communities large and small across America. Washington, D.C., should be a place where people can safely live, visit, work, and raise a family, and today’s announcement is a positive step in that direction.&#8221;
Democrats have been heavily critical of the move and <a href="https://norton.house.gov/media/press-releases/norton-van-hollen-will-reintroduce-bills-grant-dc-full-control-over-its" target="_blank" rel="noopener">plan to push legislation</a> that would give nation&#8217;s capital &#8220;full control&#8221; of its police force as well as the D.C. National Guard, which Trump previously said he was deploying to assist in the crime-fighting effort.

Comer also subpoenaed the Department of Justice (DOJ) for documents related to Epstein as well as several ex-law enforcement leaders for testimony.

&#8220;What makes these subpoenas special and historical is that they came as a result of a bipartisan vote,&#8221; Comer said. &#8220;The Democrats made a motion, like we knew they would, to subpoena the Epstein documents, which Republicans support. Scott Perry from Pennsylvania amended that motion to include subpoenas for both Bill and Hillary Clinton, as well as six former attorneys generals — and the Democrats voted for it.&#8221;
He continued, &#8220;Now they&#8217;re scared and trying to say they didn&#8217;t vote for it, but they did. It&#8217;s on record. And that helps us in court. If the Clintons try to fight this subpoena, which we presume they will, this &#8230; subpoena came as a result of a bipartisan vote, which has never happened before in the House Oversight Committee.&#8221;
The Clintons have sought to distance themselves from Epstein, a wealthy financier and convicted sex offender who was found dead at the age of 66 in his New York City jail cell in 2019 — after being arrested on sex trafficking charges involving young girls. Bill Clinton&#8217;s spokesperson released a statement in 2019 that acknowledged some trips on Epstein&#8217;s plane and meetings with him, but <a href="https://x.com/angelurena/status/1148357927625023490" target="_blank" rel="noopener">denied</a> the former president had knowledge of Epstein&#8217;s crimes or made trips to his private island.
In his subpoena <a href="https://oversight.house.gov/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/2025.08.05-Subpoena-Cover-Letters.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">cover letters</a>, Comer said there were &#8220;conflicting reports&#8221; about whether Bill Clinton did visit Epstein&#8217;s island. The chairman noted Bill Clinton was &#8220;allegedly close&#8221; to Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell and &#8220;attended an intimate dinner with her in 2014, three years after public reports about her involvement in Mr. Epstein’s abuse of minors.&#8221; Maxwell, who is serving <a href="https://www.justice.gov/usao-sdny/pr/ghislaine-maxwell-sentenced-20-years-prison-conspiring-jeffrey-epstein-sexually-abuse">a 20-year prison sentence</a> after being found guilty of conspiring with Epstein to sexually abuse underage girls, is another person Comer has <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ghislaine-maxwell-sends-congress-list-of-demands-for-deposition" target="_blank" rel="noopener">subpoenaed</a>. Comer further pointed out that Maxwell’s nephew worked for Hillary Clinton&#8217;s 2008 presidential campaign and was hired by the State Department shortly after she became secretary of state.&#8221;
&#8220;So we&#8217;re looking forward to hearing from the Clintons,&#8221; Comer told Bartiromo. &#8220;The American people want to know what went on on Epstein island. We know Clinton went there many times. We just want to ask Bill Clinton what he saw when he was there and who all was involved.&#8221;

He also <a href="https://x.com/FoxNews/status/1953921321563218367" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told reporters that</a> a potential deal would include &#8220;some swapping of territories&#8221; to end the years-long conflict, although Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy later <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/08/09/world/europe/zelensky-trump-ukraine-russia.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">rejected</a> the idea of giving up land.
Vance contended that he did not believe a meeting between Putin and Zelenskyy before Trump&#8217;s expected meeting with Putin would be &#8220;that productive&#8221; to the peace effort.
&#8220;I think, fundamentally, the president of the United States has to be the one to kind of bring these two together,&#8221; Vance said, adding that &#8220;fundamentally, this is something where the president needs to force President Putin and President Zelenskyy really to sit down to figure out their differences.&#8221;
Vance said Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff have been helping the Trump administration reach a breakthrough. He noted that one of the &#8220;most important logjams&#8221; was Putin saying that he would never sit down for a conversation with Zelenskyy.
&#8220;And the president has now got that to change,&#8221; Vance said. &#8220;We&#8217;re at a point now where we&#8217;re now trying to figure out, frankly, scheduling and things like that around when these three leaders could sit down and discuss an end to this conflict.&#8221;

The FBI will help track down the Democratic state lawmakers who fled Texas in a bid to stop their state legislature from enacting a GOP redistricting plan, Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) said on Thursday.
Cornyn made the announcement two days after sending a <a href="https://www.cornyn.senate.gov/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Letter-to-FBI-on-Texas-Legislators.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">letter</a> to FBI Director Kash Patel requesting that the bureau help Texas state law enforcement locate or arrest the Democrats after they potentially broke the law.
&#8220;I am proud to announce that Director Kash Patel has approved my request for the FBI to assist state and local law enforcement in locating runaway Texas House Democrats,&#8221; Cornyn said in a <a href="https://www.cornyn.senate.gov/news/fbi-grants-cornyn-request-to-hold-fleeing-texas-legislators-accountable/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a>. &#8220;I thank President Trump and Director Patel for supporting and swiftly acting on my call for the federal government to hold these supposed lawmakers accountable for fleeing Texas. We cannot allow these rogue legislators to avoid their constitutional responsibilities.&#8221;
An FBI spokesperson declined to comment when The Daily Wire reached out to the bureau.
President Donald Trump is <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-says-gop-can-get-five-more-house-seats-redistricting-just-one-state" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pushing</a> Texas and other states to redraw their congressional maps with the expectation that Republicans would gain seats. In retaliation, Democrats have rallied for mid-decade redistricting in blue states. Shifting lines could give either party an edge in the 2026 midterm elections.
Dozens of Democratic Texas state lawmakers <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/texas-dems-cant-win-redistricting-fight-so-they-bravely-turn-tail-and-flee-the-state" target="_blank" rel="noopener">went AWOL</a> over the weekend with a stated purpose of preventing the state legislature from passing a new redistricting plan that could lead to Republicans gaining as many as five seats in the U.S. House. They are doing so by denying the quorum needed to conduct business for a special session.
Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott has <a href="https://gov.texas.gov/news/post/governor-abbott-orders-texas-department-of-public-safety-to-arrest-delinquent-house-democrats" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ordered</a> the arrest of the Democrats who have refused to return and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/abbott-moves-to-oust-democrat-who-led-texas-walkout-stunt" target="_blank" rel="noopener">filed</a> suit to remove Democrat House Caucus Chair Gene Wu from office after he led the walkout effort.
In his letter to Patel, Cornyn wrote, &#8220;Abbott and Texas state law enforcement officers are doing what they can within the confines of the law, but federal help may be necessary. These legislators have committed potential criminal acts in their rush to avoid their constitutional responsibilities and must be fully investigated and held accountable.&#8221;
Cornyn made the request for FBI support as he runs for another six-year term in the Senate. He is facing a primary challenge from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who has <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/5437325-texas-democrats-paxton/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">warned</a> that he will begin removing the Democratic lawmakers from office if they do not meet a Friday deadline set by the state House speaker. Paxton also <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/beto-orourkes-pac-bankrolls-texas-democrats-escape-from-redistricting-standoff" target="_blank" rel="noopener">launched</a> an investigation into a group led by Democrat Beto O&#8217;Rourke that is bankrolling the runaway Democrats.
Democrats have criticized the GOP&#8217;s reaction to what they argue is an effort to stop gerrymandering. That includes former Rep. Colin Allred (D-TX), who is also running in the 2026 Senate race against Cornyn and Paxton after losing to Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) in a 2024 contest.
&#8220;This isn&#8217;t about &#8216;locating&#8217; anyone — they&#8217;re not hiding,&#8221; Allred said in a <a href="https://x.com/ColinAllredTX/status/1953463307433545882" target="_blank" rel="noopener">post</a> on X in response to Cornyn&#8217;s announcement on Thursday. &#8220;It&#8217;s about silencing dissent and weaponizing law enforcement. Cornyn is deputizing the FBI and Paxton is trying to expel lawmakers because they&#8217;re both too weak and corrupt to stand up to Washington. Enough is enough — Texans deserve better.&#8221;

FBI Assisting Texas In Hunt For 'Runaway' Democrats, GOP Senator Says

Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Wednesday that &#8220;not enough attention&#8221; is being focused on the hostages still being held by Hamas.
During an interview on Fox Business, host Larry Kudlow noted the Israeli government might engage in a complete military takeover of Gaza and pressed Rubio on whether he has spoken to the prime minister — and whether he thinks Israel is making a wise decision.
&#8220;Well, ultimately the president has said that it’s up to Israel to decide what they need to do for their own security. I’ve spoken often — almost daily — to somebody in the Israeli government, often to the prime minister but many times to many members of his team,&#8221; the top diplomat said.
Rubio then explained how there are three &#8220;interrelated&#8221; problems when it comes to the situation in Gaza.
&#8220;The first is there is a humanitarian problem that needs to be addressed. We’re working very hard to figure out ways to address it in ways that doesn’t benefit Hamas but that allows people to be fed and prevents a further humanitarian problem there that we’re seeing now,&#8221; Rubio said.
He added, &#8220;The second is that there are 20 innocent human beings that are being held hostage in horrifying conditions. And the third is that as long as Hamas exists, there will not be peace. There cannot be a permanent peace. It’ll restart again if Hamas remains.&#8221;
President Donald Trump recently <a href="https://www.facebook.com/reel/1828298958101812" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> there was &#8220;real starvation&#8221; going on in Gaza, in a rare break with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who contends Hamas is hoarding supplies and no famine is taking place.
Special Envoy Steve Witkoff said on Friday that he and U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee met with Israeli officials to assess the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, where the fight against Hamas continues.
&#8220;The purpose of the visit was to give [President Trump] a clear understanding of the humanitarian situation and help craft a plan to deliver food and medical aid to the people of Gaza,&#8221; Witkoff <a href="https://x.com/SEPeaceMissions/status/1951281182286500025" target="_blank" rel="noopener">posted</a> on X.
Rubio said there is &#8220;a lot of attention&#8221; being placed on the humanitarian issue and noted &#8220;we want to do everything we can to be helpful on the humanitarian problem.&#8221;
The secretary went on to say, &#8220;But not enough attention is being paid to the fact that 20 people that had nothing to do with this are being held hostage in tunnels on the verge of death, and no real talk about how Hamas needs to be disarmed and disbanded. We have to focus more on those two things.&#8221;
He concluded: &#8220;You have to do all three, and all the talk is about humanitarian — which is important; we are willing to do a lot to be helpful there — but we have to focus on the other two. Those other two cannot be forgotten. And it’s all — the president has said he wants all the hostages out — not five, not seven, all of them, including the deceased hostages. And ultimately, Hamas cannot continue to exist. Even the Arab League says it. As long as Hamas exists as an armed group in Gaza, there will not be a &#8230; peaceful future, because it’s going to happen again. And that can’t — this can never happen again.&#8221;
