On Tuesday, the GOP-led Senate unanimously passed bipartisan legislation from Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) that seeks to make good on President Donald Trump&#8217;s campaign promise for getting rid of taxes on tips.
Axios <a href="https://www.axios.com/2025/05/20/senate-dems-attempt-pass-no-tax-on-tips" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> earlier in the day that Senate Republicans were likely to block a request for unanimous consent for Cruz&#8217;s measure by Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-NV) because the GOP-controlled House is working on Trump&#8217;s &#8220;one big, beautiful bill,&#8221; which has its own <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trumps-one-big-beautiful-bill-gets-no-tax-on-tips-and-overtime" target="_blank" rel="noopener">&#8220;No Tax On Tips&#8221;</a> component.
However, that opposition did not materialize and Cruz&#8217;s <a href="https://www.cruz.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/no_tax_on_tips_act_2025.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">&#8220;No Tax on Tips Act&#8221;</a> passed by <a href="https://x.com/SenatePress/status/1924921893066277222" target="_blank" rel="noopener">unanimous consent</a>, which is an <a href="https://www.senate.gov/about/glossary.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener">agreement</a> that allows the upper chamber to bypass standard rules to speed up proceedings.
&#8220;President Trump made a promise to the American people that he would eliminate taxes on tips. In Congress, I formed a bipartisan, bicameral coalition to get that done, and in the Senate introduced the No Tax on Tips Act,&#8221; Cruz said in a <a href="https://www.cruz.senate.gov/newsroom/press-releases/sen-cruzs-no-tax-on-tips-legislation-passes-senate" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a>.
&#8220;Today, I went with Senator Rosen to the floor to secure Senate passage of the bill,&#8221; he added. &#8220;This legislation will have a lasting impact on millions of Americans by protecting the hard-earned dollars of blue-collar workers, the very people who are living paycheck-to-paycheck. I urge my colleagues in the House to pass this important bill and send it to the President’s desk to be signed into law.&#8221;
According to a Congress.gov <a href="https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/senate-bill/129" target="_blank" rel="noopener">summary</a>, the bill, as introduced, allows workers in tip-heavy jobs to deduct up to $25,000 in reported cash tips from their taxes unless they earned over a threshold, which is $160,000 for 2025 and adjusted annually for inflation. It also expands business tax credits to cover payroll taxes on tips from beauty services such as haircare and spa treatments.
Cruz&#8217;s office says the bill &#8220;exempts &#8216;cash tips&#8217; — cash, credit and debit card charges, and checks — from federal income tax by allowing taxpayers to claim a 100% deduction at filing for tipped wages. The updated text includes guardrails to ensure only traditionally tipped employees will benefit from No Tax on Tips.&#8221;
The legislation now heads to the House, which is moving to pass through the reconciliation process a much <a href="https://docs.house.gov/meetings/BU/BU00/20250516/118284/BILLS-119pih.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">larger bill</a> that aims to provide funding for Trump’s domestic priorities, retain tax cuts from 2017, raise the debt limit, and more.
One of the megabill&#8217;s many provisions features a deduction for &#8220;qualified&#8221; tips for individuals who work in &#8220;an occupation which traditionally and customarily received tips&#8221; from 2025 through 2028. It also contains sections dedicated to some of Trump&#8217;s other ideas, including no tax on overtime and no tax on auto loan interest.
Democrats have joined Republicans in supporting the push for &#8220;No Tax On Tips.&#8221; In fact, Vice President Kamala Harris <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/kamala-harris-steals-trumps-no-tax-on-tips-policy-proposal" target="_blank" rel="noopener">stole</a> Trump&#8217;s proposal as they competed against each other for the White House in the 2024 election.
In a speech on the Senate floor, Rosen <a href="https://x.com/SenJackyRosen/status/1924933653894701465" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> that she wanted the legislation from Cruz to succeed rather than &#8220;forcing working families to choose between keeping their healthcare or keeping their tips&#8221; with the more comprehensive &#8220;one big, beautiful bill,&#8221; alluding to efforts by GOP lawmakers to rein in spending on programs such as Medicaid.

The bill, which is progressing through Congress via the reconciliation process, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/passing-trump-one-big-beautiful-bill-gop-duty-voters-white-house" target="_blank" rel="noopener">aims</a> to provide funding for Trump’s domestic priorities, retain the 2017 tax cuts, raise the debt limit, and more. With a slim House majority and near-certain Democrat opposition, Republicans can likely afford only a few defectors to send the bill to the Senate.
One key component that threatens to derail the House bid to pass the legislation is a provision to increase the state and local tax (SALT) deduction cap to $30,000 for individuals earning $400,000 or less, up from the current $10,000 limit set to expire at the end of this year. A source told The Daily Wire that Trump urged House Republicans not to let SALT impede the bill&#8217;s progress, noting they could fight about the issue in the future.
However, GOP lawmakers from high-tax blue states signaled they were not ready to back down after the meeting with Trump, as evidenced by a <a href="https://x.com/sahilkapur/status/1924912782459154828" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a> from Reps. Mike Lawler (R-NY), Nick LaLota (R-NY), Andrew Garbarino (R-NY), Tom Kean Jr. (R-NJ), and Young Kim (R-CA).
&#8220;We share President Donald Trump&#8217;s call for unity within the House Republican Conference. A fair SALT deduction is a matter of fundamental fairness for the hardworking families we represent, including the many who proudly support President Trump and voted for him, in part, because he promised to restore SALT,&#8221; they said. &#8220;We hope his remarks today motivate the Speaker to advance a SALT proposal that delivers meaningful relief for our middle-class constituents, as we have worked in good faith with House Leadership for more than a year. Our states are donor states, consistently subsidizing so-called fiscally responsible red states.&#8221;

Andy Ogles (R-TN), a member of the Freedom Caucus, <a href="https://x.com/RepOgles/status/1924856688009433267" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in a post to X that he agrees with Trump on cutting waste, fraud, and abuse. &#8220;Liberal states like California and New York are abusing Medicaid — and making you pay for it,&#8221; he added. &#8220;Illegal aliens and freeloaders have no right to taxpayer-funded benefits. Cut the waste- accomplish the America First mandate.&#8221;
Another member of the group, Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX), <a href="https://x.com/chiproytx/status/1924856914086625761" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in a post of his own: &#8220;Congress doesn’t need to layer more central planning garbage on top of more garbage (blue state winners/losers, [Inflation Reduction Act] subsidies etc). We are bloated enough. And broke. Limit gov spending, put money back in the pockets of hard working Americans and get the hell out of their way.&#8221;
Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), who is closely aligned with Trump on the bill and has voiced aspirations for getting the lower chamber to pass the legislation by Memorial Day, expressed confidence after the Capitol Hill meeting.
&#8220;Republicans are on the verge of delivering REAL, POSITIVE results for the American people,&#8221; Johnson <a href="https://x.com/SpeakerJohnson/status/1924884657478221892" target="_blank" rel="noopener">declared</a> in a post on X. &#8220;President Trump has done his part to fix the disaster [former President Joe] Biden left us, it’s time Congress does ours. We cannot leave the American people waiting.&#8221;
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) and Rules Committee Ranking Member James McGovern (D-MA) publicly released a letter addressed to Jeffries griping about the plan for a rules panel <a href="https://rules.house.gov/media/announcement/meeting-announcement-may-21-2025" target="_blank" rel="noopener">meeting</a> at 1 a.m. on the megabill they claimed would cause millions of Americans to lose their health care, benefit the wealthy, and add more than $5 trillion to the national debt.
&#8220;It is deeply troubling that you would attempt to jam this legislation down the throats of the American people. What else are you hiding?&#8221; the Democrats <a href="https://x.com/Olivia_Beavers/status/1924841481363132462" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote</a>. &#8220;It is imperative that you immediately reschedule the meeting so that it may be debated in the light of day.&#8221;

This week, the Republican-controlled Senate aims to dismantle the former Biden administration&#8217;s move giving California room to implement a green agenda for cars across the country, Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) announced on Tuesday.
During <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4856qr2PN0" target="_blank" rel="noopener">remarks</a> on the Senate floor, Thune said the upper chamber will take up Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolutions to overturn Clean Air Act preemption waivers the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) granted to California, which <a href="https://www.axios.com/2024/12/18/epa-california-electric-vehicles-waiver" target="_blank" rel="noopener">allowed</a> it to proceed with a plan to ban the sale of new gas-powered vehicles by 2035.
The waivers allowed California &#8220;to dictate emissions standards for the whole country – effectively imposing a nationwide electric vehicle mandate,&#8221; said Thune, who called the state&#8217;s rules an &#8220;improper expansion of a limited Clean Air Act authority and would endanger consumers, our economy, and our nation’s energy supply.&#8221;
A key conflict is whether the CRA, which allows bypassing a filibuster to undo regulations, applies to the waivers. Both the Senate <a href="https://thehill.com/policy/energy-environment/5233436-senate-parliamentarian-says-lawmakers-cant-overturn-california-car-rules-but-republicans-may-try-anyway/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">parliamentarian</a> and Government Accountability Office (<a href="https://www.gao.gov/products/b-337179" target="_blank" rel="noopener">GAO</a>) have assessed the waivers are not rules that qualify.
But the Senate is poised to press forward, as Thune contended the EPA submitted the waivers as rules. He also noted the GOP-led House already <a href="https://clerk.house.gov/Votes/2025114?Date=05%2F01%2F2025" target="_blank" rel="noopener">voted</a> to pass a Congressional Review Act resolution of disapproval with the support of 35 Democrats, and did so &#8220;without objection from the House parliamentarian.&#8221;
Sen. Alex Padilla (D-CA), the top Democrat for the Committee on Rules and Administration and a member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, declared in a <a href="https://www.padilla.senate.gov/newsroom/press-releases/padilla-places-holds-on-epa-nominees-until-republicans-cease-efforts-to-abuse-the-cra-to-revoke-californias-clean-air-act-waivers/#:~:text=But%20if%20my%20Republican%20colleagues,the%20CRA%2C%E2%80%9D%20added%20Senator%20Padilla" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a> that he was placing a hold on EPA nominees until Republicans back off and warned of future consequences if the GOP refuses to relent.
“None of these actions are rules, which is why they’ve never been submitted to Congress as rules,&#8221; Padilla said. &#8220;But if my Republican colleagues open this door and overturn the Parliamentarian’s wise safeguards on this type of abuse, there would be no practical limit, and the Senate could be forced to vote repeatedly on such matters that are clearly not ‘rules’ notwithstanding the plain language of the CRA.&#8221;
Thune suggested there will soon be repercussions for GAO, which <a href="https://www.gao.gov/about" target="_blank" rel="noopener">bills</a> itself as being an independent and non-partisan agency that &#8220;works for&#8221; Congress, because of the stance it took on the CRA in the California waiver debate.
&#8220;It is true that we are facing something of a novel situation,&#8221; Thune said. &#8220;Because for the first time ever, the Government Accountability Office has decided to insert itself into the process and affirmatively declare that an agency rule submitted to Congress as a rule is not a rule. It’s an extraordinary deviation from precedent for an agency that should be defending Congress’ power instead of constraining it.&#8221;
He added: &#8220;And frankly &#8230; I think we need to act to ensure that this intrusion into the Congressional Review Act process doesn’t become a habit, and that the Senate doesn’t end up transferring its decision-making power on CRA resolutions to the Government Accountability Office. That’s why this week I intend to bring the question of GAO’s unprecedented interference to the floor.&#8221;

On Monday, the Department of Justice announced that Rep. LaMonica McIver (D-NJ) has been charged in connection with a scuffle at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facility in Newark, New Jersey, earlier this month.
&#8220;Today my office has charged Congresswoman McIver with violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 111(a)(1) for assaulting, impeding and interfering with law enforcement,&#8221; Acting U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey Alina Habba <a href="https://x.com/USAttyHabba/status/1924615111198576645" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in a post on X.
In response, McIver insisted the case has been tainted by politics.

McIver joined other House Democrats from New Jersey, demanding they be allowed to conduct &#8220;oversight&#8221; of the ICE detention facility at Delaney Hall on May 9. Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, a Democrat running for New Jersey governor who has been protesting the ICE site, was also present. At one point, there was a breach. ICE body-cam <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/democrats-claim-ice-agents-roughed-them-up-body-cam-footage-says-otherwise" target="_blank" rel="noopener">footage</a> shows part of a confrontation between the New Jersey Democrats and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) agents.

Baraka was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor charge of trespass, but Habba said in a statement on Monday that her office agreed to dismiss it. She even offered to personally give him a tour of Delaney Hall in the &#8220;spirit of public interest.&#8221;
Yet the &#8220;dismissal against the mayor is not the end of this matter,&#8221; Habba said. &#8220;Congressional oversight is an important constitutional function and one that I fully support. However, that is not at issue in this case.&#8221;
Habba, who previously served as President Donald Trump&#8217;s personal lawyer and White House aide, said McIver had been charged because her alleged conduct &#8220;cannot be overlooked by the chief federal law enforcement official in the State of New Jersey, and it is my Constitutional obligation to ensure that our federal law enforcement is protected when executing their duties.&#8221;
The move is sure to escalate animosity between Democrats and the Trump administration in the already-tense debate on illegal immigration and deportations.
Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), who <a href="https://www.mediaite.com/politics/hakeem-jeffries-angrily-condemns-joke-dhs-spox-for-threatening-arrests-of-house-democrats-thats-a-red-line/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">warned</a> last week a &#8220;red line&#8221; would be crossed if his colleagues involved in the incident were to be arrested by federal authorities or get sanctioned, said in a statement with other House Democrat leaders that the decision to charge McIver was &#8220;extreme, morally bankrupt and lacks any basis in law or fact&#8221; and they vowed to &#8220;respond vigorously in the days to come at a time, place and manner of our choosing.&#8221;
McIver struck a defiant tone in response to being charged.
&#8220;Earlier this month, I joined my colleagues to inspect the treatment of ICE detainees at Delaney Hall in my district. We were fulfilling our lawful oversight responsibilities, as members of Congress have done many times before, and our visit should have been peaceful and short. Instead, ICE agents created an unnecessary and unsafe confrontation when they chose to arrest Mayor Baraka,&#8221; McIver said in a <a href="https://x.com/RepLaMonica/status/1924617694298378675" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a>.
&#8220;The charges against me are purely political — they mischaracterize and distort my actions, and are meant to criminalize and deter legislative oversight,&#8221; she added. &#8220;This administration will never stop me from working for the people in our district and standing up for what is right. I am thankful for the outpouring of support I have received and I look forward to the truth being laid out clearly in court.&#8221;
Habba said she &#8220;persistently made efforts to address these issues without bringing criminal charges and have given Representative McIver every opportunity to come to a resolution, but she has unfortunately declined.&#8221; She concluded: &#8220;No one is above the law — politicians or otherwise. It is the job of this office to uphold justice impartially, regardless of who you are. Now we will let the justice system work.&#8221;
In a <a href="https://x.com/AlexisMcAdamsTV/status/1924635219237212445" target="_blank" rel="noopener">post</a> on X, Fox News national correspondent Alexis McAdams reported that she was told McIver is facing several felony charges and faces possible time behind bars.
DHS Secretary Kristi Noem also issued a post on X concerning the situation.

Named the &#8220;Presidential Airlift Security Act of 2025,&#8221; the <a href="https://www.democrats.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/dav25917.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">bill</a> would block the Department of Defense (DoD) from using funds allocated for fiscal years 2025 and 2026 to procure, modify, restore, or maintain aircraft previously owned by foreign governments or their representatives for presidential airlift purposes.

The bill is processing through Congress via the reconciliation process, aiming to provide funding for Trump’s domestic priorities, retain the 2017 tax cuts, raise the debt limit, and more.
One claim Democrats have made against the legislation is that it benefits the wealthy, but if they &#8220;get their way&#8221; and the 2017 tax cuts are not extended through the bill, Americans will face the &#8220;largest tax hike in history to the tune of $4 trillion,&#8221; Leavitt said. &#8220;Republicans must not side with Democrats in helping them raise taxes.&#8221;
The bill actually gives Americans the biggest tax cuts in U.S. history, Leavitt argued. Key areas she highlighted included eliminating taxes on tips for service workers, removing taxes on overtime pay for essential workers such as police and nurses, and offering a significant tax deduction for interest payments on loans for American-made cars.
Leavitt said the bill boosts the Child Tax Credit to $2,500 per child, establishes optional $1,000 savings accounts for newborns, fortifies paid family leave, provides tax relief for middle- and low-income Social Security recipients by allowing an additional $4,000 deduction on payments from their taxable income, and permits Americans earning between $30,000 and $80,000 to pay around 15% less in taxes. Leavitt noted there is a new White House Council of Economic Advisers study projecting families with two children will see their take-home pay rise up to $13,000 because of increased wages and reduced tax obligations, plus the average overtime worker receives a tax cut of roughly $2,000, if the legislation passes.
&#8220;This bill will be the single most pro-small business, pro-family, and pro-American worker legislation ever,&#8221; Leavitt said.
Another major attack line from the Democrats is that the legislation forces millions to lose health care coverage, under Medicaid in particular. However, according to Leavitt, the bill reforms Medicaid by eliminating coverage for &#8220;barbaric gender mutilation procedures on minor children&#8221; and removing 1.4 million undocumented immigrants from the program, a move that would &#8220;preserve it for hardworking American citizens.&#8221;
Leavitt further contended that the bill strengthens border security beyond what Trump has done himself through executive actions, funding the completion of the border wall, hiring thousands of new ICE and Border Patrol agents, and providing $10,000 bonuses to existing agents over four years. It also helps Trump fulfill his &#8220;promise to carry out the largest mass deportation in the history of our country,&#8221; she said. Leavitt said the bill enhances national defense through resources for a modernized military, including the construction of the &#8220;Golden Dome&#8221; defense system. And Leavitt stressed that the bill modernizes the nation’s air traffic control system to reduce delays and enhance safety, addressing long-standing bipartisan concerns.
&#8220;It is absolutely essential that Republicans unite behind the One Big Beautiful Bill and deliver on President Trump’s agenda. There is no time to waste,&#8221; Leavitt said. &#8220;Americans gave Republicans a once in a generation opportunity to course correct our country over many wrongs over the past four years — and Americans are counting on Republicans to work as hard as President Trump is in this White House every day on Capitol Hill. In a second attempt late Sunday night, President Donald Trump’s &#8220;one big, beautiful bill&#8221; prevailed in a critical committee vote after House GOP leadership managed to placate a handful of Republican deficit hawks who held out in the first go-around.
The House Budget Committee advanced the package in a 17-16 vote along party lines while four conservative defectors <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trumps-one-big-beautiful-bill-hits-snag-in-critical-vote" target="_blank" rel="noopener">from last time</a> voted &#8220;present.&#8221;
It appears negotiations over the past couple of days were productive.
Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) <a href="https://x.com/haleytalbotcnn/status/1924279405141983582" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> reporters shortly before the Sunday vote that talks had been &#8220;great&#8221; and &#8220;minor modifications&#8221; were made over the weekend. The exact details were not immediately known.
Budget Chairman Jodey Arrington (R-TX) asserted during the meeting late Sunday that he could not say what might be changing, emphasizing that the situation was fluid.
One of the erstwhile holdouts, Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX), <a href="https://x.com/chiproytx/status/1924296387040080036" target="_blank" rel="noopener">suggested</a> the breakthrough had to do with moving Medicaid work requirements forward and reducing &#8220;green new scam&#8221; subsidies.
However, Roy also said he had lingering objections linked to the same programs, warning the spending &#8220;ultimately increases the likelihood of continuing deficits and non-Obamacare-expansion states like Texas expanding in the future.&#8221;

In a Fox News <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/video/6373020839112" target="_blank" rel="noopener">interview</a> alongside Deputy Director Dan Bongino, Patel spoke to &#8220;Sunday Morning Futures&#8221; host Maria Bartiromo about reviving trust in the bureau years after the scandal that they have long examined and criticized. Trump <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/03/immediate-declassification-of-materials-related-to-the-federal-bureau-of-investigations-crossfire-hurricane-investigation/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">signed</a> an order in March for the declassification of materials related to the Russia investigation, codenamed &#8220;Crossfire Hurricane,&#8221; led by the FBI. Patel then made reference to several major Russiagate figures who previously served in the bureau: former Director James Comey, former Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, former agent Peter Strzok, and former General Counsel James Baker. The interview, which aired Sunday, was recorded before federal authorities <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/director-of-national-intel-says-comey-should-be-thrown-jail-86-trump-post" target="_blank" rel="noopener">opened</a> an investigation into Comey over a social media post that some have taken to be a threat against Trump. Comey denies that he intended to call for violence.
&#8220;But when the likes of Comey and McCabe and Strzok and company came in here with the James Bakers of the world and intentionally lied to a federal court, only to rig a presidential election by lying to the American public and using taxpayer dollars, likely illegally, to fund this entire operation, and then withhold exculpatory information from a federal court that I used to appear before to manhunt terrorists, that&#8217;s what broke the FBI,&#8221; Patel said, referring to a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-says-kill-fisa-as-lawmakers-consider-surveillance-reauthorization" target="_blank" rel="noopener">FISA scandal</a> within Russiagate.
&#8220;And then, when they were caught, they lied about it,&#8221; Patel added. &#8220;And you and a few others like Dan and others were brave enough to cover it six, seven, eight years ago. And we&#8217;re still talking about it today, because, as Congress is working rigorously with us, the Crossfire Hurricane documents are coming fast and hard. And they&#8217;re being sent there unredacted, so we can have full accountability. And that&#8217;s how you restore &#8230; the trust that was lost to the American public when it comes to the FBI.&#8221;
Bartiromo pushed back.
&#8220;Yes, but, come on, Director. With all due respect, we have been talking about this for a long time, and I have been demanding accountability for many, many years,&#8221; she said. &#8220;One of the — you mentioned Comey, Strzok and the rest. They have got TV shows. They have got media platforms. They&#8217;re fine. There&#8217;s been no accountability.&#8221;
In response to what he conceded was &#8220;a fair criticism,&#8221; Patel emphasized the situation is now different.
&#8220;What I will tell people is, we weren&#8217;t here in the FBI in the last five years, when we had statute of limitations that were still in play, where we could have investigated criminal conduct. Most of these statute of limitations are five years old,&#8221; Patel said. &#8220;And we will investigate criminal conduct where we find a righteous case to do so and the law and the facts allow us to. But a lot of it, we&#8217;re precluded from. So we will take the criticism, and it&#8217;s rightfully so, that could we have done more in the past? Sure, people before us could have.&#8221;
He continued: &#8220;But what we can do now is continue to put out the documents and the information that these people withheld from the American public. And I&#8217;m just telling you, right now, as much as we know about Crossfire Hurricane, he and I just found out more last week. And we&#8217;re continuing to work with Congress to put those documents out. That&#8217;s how vindictive and vicious the former leadership structure here was. Not only did they bastardize the FISA process and lie to the American public. They withheld and hid documentation and put it in rooms where people weren&#8217;t supposed to look. And it&#8217;s a good thing we&#8217;re here now to clean it up, and you&#8217;re about to see a wave of transparency.&#8221;

A vehicle exploded on Saturday in a parking lot outside of the American Reproductive Centers (ARC) facility, ARC said in post on <a href="https://www.facebook.com/AmericanReproductiveCenters" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Facebook</a>. The Los Angeles Times <a href="https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2025-05-18/palm-springs-clinic-bombing-authorities-probe-suspect-motive" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that there was &#8220;extensive damage&#8221; to the ARC clinic and vitro fertilization lab at the location, as well as blown-out windows in buildings blocks away.

On Sunday, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) insisted the GOP-led House is &#8220;on track&#8221; to pass President Donald Trump’s &#8220;one big, beautiful bill&#8221; on time despite the legislation hitting a roadblock last week.
Johnson expressed confidence in his Memorial Day deadline for the domestic policy bill during an <a href="https://video.foxnews.com/v/6373018257112" target="_blank" rel="noopener">interview</a> on &#8220;Fox News Sunday&#8221; after the House Budget Committee failed to advance <a href="https://docs.house.gov/meetings/BU/BU00/20250516/118284/BILLS-119pih.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the legislation</a> in a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trumps-one-big-beautiful-bill-hits-snag-in-critical-vote" target="_blank" rel="noopener">16-21 vote</a> on Friday amid a revolt by some Republican deficit hawks.
&#8220;We&#8217;re on track, working around the clock to deliver this nation-shaping legislation for the American people as soon as possible,&#8221; Johnson told Fox News anchor Shannon Bream. &#8220;Look, all 11 of our committees have wrapped up their work and they spent less and saved more than even we projected initially. This really is a once-in-a-generation opportunity that we have here.&#8221;
The budget panel is set to reconvene on Sunday evening and &#8220;they&#8217;ll get that through the committee,&#8221; Johnson predicted. &#8220;And the plan is to move it to the Rules Committee by midweek and to the House floor by the end of the week, so we meet our initial, our original Memorial Day deadline,&#8221; he added.
Johnson was asked to respond to some of the GOP defectors on the Budget Committee, including Reps. Ralph Norman (R-SC) and Chip Roy (R-TX), who say they want deeper and more immediate spending cuts. The speaker noted that there have been &#8220;lots of conversations&#8221; with his &#8220;good friends&#8221; and more would take place on Sunday.
&#8220;What they were complaining about or mostly concerned about I think is, for example, work requirements in Medicaid. They wanted them to be implemented earlier rather than later. Well, so do we,&#8221; Johnson said.
&#8220;The concern is — what we&#8217;re trying to work with is the ability of the states to retool their systems and ensure the verification processes, to make sure that all the new laws and all the new safeguards that we&#8217;re placing can actually be enforced,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;And so, we&#8217;re working through all those details, and we&#8217;ll get it done. But I tell you what: this is the largest spending reduction in at least three decades, probably longer. It&#8217;s historic.&#8221;
Johnson also noted that the House has been in &#8220;close coordination&#8221; with the Senate, where some Republicans have voiced reservations about the bill in its current form, since last year. The legislation that is progressing through the reconciliation process is &#8220;one that was very carefully negotiated and delicately balanced, and we hope that they don&#8217;t make many modifications to it because that will ensure its passage quickly,&#8221; he added.
&#8220;Remember, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that we need to do this by July 4th,&#8221; Johnson said. &#8220;Remember, also included in this package is a solution to the debt limit that is coming upon us, the cliff. We&#8217;ve got to get this done and get it to the president&#8217;s desk by that big celebration on Independence Day. And &#8230; I am convinced that we can.&#8221;

Two crew members are dead and nearly two dozen others were injured after a Mexican navy tall ship lost power and crashed into the Brooklyn Bridge on Saturday evening, said New York City Mayor Eric Adams.
Videos posted to social media showed the moment the masts of the sailing vessel, identified as a training ship on a goodwill mission called the Cuauhtémoc, snapped upon slamming into the bridge.
&#8220;Earlier tonight, the Mexican Navy tall ship Cuauhtémoc lost power and crashed into the Brooklyn Bridge,&#8221; Adams <a href="https://x.com/NYCMayor/status/1923956324737351832" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in a post on X. &#8220;At this time, of the 277 on board, 19 sustained injuries, 2 of which remain in critical condition, and 2 more have sadly passed away from their injuries.&#8221;
He added: &#8220;We are praying for everyone on board and their families and are grateful to our first responders who quickly jumped into action, ensuring this accident wasn’t much worse. Following our preliminary inspection, we can confirm that the bridge sustained no damage and is now open to the public.&#8221;

Bystanders <a href="https://apnews.com/article/brooklyn-bridge-collision-mexican-navy-ship-ca335dc85ebfbf981bc38516985461c8" target="_blank" rel="noopener">shared</a> with the Associated Press harrowing details of what they witnessed, including Lily Katz, who was reportedly sitting and watching the sunset with another person when the Cuauhtémoc hit the bridge.
“We saw someone dangling, and I couldn’t tell if it was just blurry or my eyes, and we were able to zoom in on our phone and there was someone dangling from the harness from the top for like at least like 15 minutes before they were able to rescue them,” Katz said.
The New York Post reported a <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/05/17/us-news/ship-carrying-200-people-hits-the-brooklyn-bridge-as-search-and-rescue-operation-underway/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a> from the Mexican navy.
&#8220;During the sailing maneuver of the Cuauhtémoc sailboat in New York, a mishap occurred with the Brooklyn Bridge, causing damage to the training ship, preventing the continuation of the training cruise for the time being,” the Mexican navy said. &#8220;The status of personnel and equipment is being reviewed by naval and local authorities, who are providing support. The Navy reaffirms its commitment to personnel safety, transparency in its operations, and excellent training for future officers of the Mexican Navy.&#8221;
