Yesterday, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), took to the floor of the Senate to decry anti-Semitism. 
Schumer isn’t an amazing source on this particular topic, given his consistent support of the Middle East policies of the most anti-Semitic president in modern history, Barack Obama. Nonetheless, he <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dlEB0sgap4U" target="_blank" rel="noopener">spoke about</a> the threat of anti-Semitism. And, in a rare moment of quasi-honesty, he actually mentioned the problem of anti-Semitism among liberals. 
“Not long ago, many of us marched together for Black and brown lives,” Schumer said. “We stood against anti-Asian hatred. We protested bigotry against the LGBTQ community. We fought for reproductive justice, out of the recognition that injustice against one oppressed group is injustice against all. But apparently, in the eyes of some, that principle does not extend to the Jewish people.”
“I’m a progressive,” he <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2023/11/29/us/politics/schumer-antisemitism-israel-hamas.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">continued</a>. “I’ve had lots of good relationships with all the people who are protesting, but I also feel the urgency — the Jewish people are anguished. I had an obligation to many places: to the Jewish people, to my fellow progressives.”
Then he said of the “progressives,” “I had to say it, because I don’t think they know it. I don’t think they’re of bad will.”
Note the language there: Sure, they’re anti-Semitic, but they know not what they do. Schumer explained that the phrase “from the river to the sea” was actually just an ignorant expression, not a genocidal one. “Plenty of people,” Schumer said, chant the phrase, “not because they hate Jewish people, but because they support a better future for Palestinians.”
Of course, that’s a lie — and it’s a particularly egregious lie when Schumer himself has had nothing to say about anti-Semites Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar.

But that lie must be maintained by the Left — because to recognize the roots of Left-wing anti-Semitism would be to destroy the progressive ideology wholesale. That Leftist ideology is based on a matrix of oppressor versus oppressed — that in any given situation, the powerless are oppressed and the powerful are oppressors. That oppressor-oppressed matrix maps directly onto anti-Semitic conspiracy theories about Jewish power: Jews are pseudo-white because Jews are financially well-off and Israel is disproportionately successful.
But the oppressor-oppressed matrix doesn’t fit the Jews, who are actually being victimized by widespread anti-Semitism in the Middle East and abroad, but who are also successful.
So the Left keeps pushing the lie.
That’s also true of the Anti-Defamation League, which put out a poll yesterday with Hillel International asking college students if Diversity, Equity and Inclusion should cover anti-Jewish prejudice. Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) is the rubric under which the Left pushes the idea that unequal group outcomes are the result of systemic discrimination — so, by that math, Jews are the beneficiaries of systemic discrimination. DEI simply can’t include Jews because DEI’s basic logic forbids it. DEI opposes meritocracy. It opposes performance. It opposes success.
Nonetheless, 84% of Jewish students and 75% of non-Jewish college students <a href="https://www.adl.org/resources/press-release/nearly-three-quarters-jewish-students-experienced-or-witnessed-antisemitism" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> Jews should be included in DEI training: that Jews should be included in the oppressor-oppressed matrix on the side of the oppressed. Of course they say that — what else, precisely, would they say? The premise of the question is so deeply flawed that only one answer is possible: to say that Jews shouldn’t be included in DEI would be to discriminate against them, which violates the supposed basis of DEI.
But to include Jews explodes the entire DEI superstructure. So these students are saying what they’re expected to say — yes, sure, the Jews can be included in the victim class — without recognizing the central truth of DEI: It is a scam. Victimhood is not connected to one’s level of success. Sometimes the powerless are evil. Sometimes the powerful are good. Sometimes the powerless are victimizers. Sometimes the powerful are the victims.
You can’t fight anti-Semitism with DEI. You can only increase it. The only way to truly fight anti-Semitism is to recognize what the Bible says in Leviticus: “You shall not be partial to the poor, or defer to the great, but in righteousness shall you judge your neighbor.”
But that’s the one thing Chuck Schumer and the ADL will never say.
Instead, people on the Left will pretend that the true anti-Semitism doesn’t lie in the progressive oppressor-oppressed matrix, but in Elon Musk. They’ll target him as an anti-Semite even as he goes to Israel to express solidarity with the families of murdered Jews.
Yesterday, Elon Musk was asked about advertisers canceling because they don’t like his politics. He said, “Don’t advertise. If someone is going to try to blackmail me with advertising? Blackmail me with money? Go f*** yourself. Go f*** yourself. Is that clear?”

Senate Majority Leader <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/chuck-schumer" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Charles Schumer</a> (D-NY) ripped the political Left in a speech from the Senate floor on Wednesday over its overt anti-Semitism in the days following Hamas&#8217; October 7 terrorist attack against Israel.
Schumer, who is Jewish, said as the highest ranking elected Jew in U.S. history, he felt compelled to speak out about what is happening and about anti-Semitism that Jews have experienced worldwide throughout history.
After taking a brief shot at former President Donald Trump in the opening moments of his remarks, Schumer quickly called out the woke Left as being the primary culprit of anti-Semitism as he highlighted statistics showing how anti-Semitic incidents have erupted in recent weeks.
&#8220;The solidarity that Jewish Americans initially received from many of our fellow citizens was quickly drowned out by other voices,&#8221; he said. &#8220;While the dead bodies of Jewish Israelis were still warm, while hundreds of Jewish Israelis were being carried as hostages back to Hamas tunnels under Gaza, Jewish Americans were alarmed to see some of our fellow citizens characterize a brutal terrorist attack as justified because of the actions of the Israeli government.&#8221;
&#8220;A vicious, bloodcurdling, premeditated massacre of innocent men, women, children, the elderly &#8212; justified!&#8221; he continued. &#8220;Even worse, in some cases, people even celebrated what happened, describing it as the deserved fate of quote &#8216;colonizers&#8217; and calling for quote &#8216;glory to the martyrs&#8217; who carried out these heinous attacks.&#8221;
Schumer said that those anti-Semitic statements largely were not coming from the far-Right, but from &#8220;people that most liberal Jewish Americans felt previously were their ideological fellow travelers.&#8221;

&#8220;When Jewish people hear chants like &#8216;From the river to the sea,&#8217; a founding slogan of Hamas, a terrorist group that is not shy about their goal to eradicate the Jewish people, in Israel and around the globe, we are alarmed,&#8221; he said. &#8220;When we see signs in the crowd that read &#8216;By Any Means Necessary,&#8217; after the most violent attack ever against Israeli civilians, we are appalled at the casual invocation of such savagery.&#8221;
&#8220;When we see protesters at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade compare the genocide of the Holocaust equivalently to the Israeli army’s actions to defeat Hamas in self-defense of their people, we are shocked,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;And when we see many people and news organizations remain neutral about the basic absurdity of these claims and actions, we are deeply disappointed.&#8221;
Schumer continued by labeling specific incidents as anti-Semitic:

After October 7th, when an author in a prominent left-wing magazine labeled the pro-Israel rally in Washington a “hate rally” — that is anti-Semitism! I attended the rally because I believe there should be a place of refuge for the Jewish people. Not because I wish violence on Palestinians, or any other people.
And after October 7th, when students at Hillcrest High School in Queens ran rampant in the hallways and demanded the firing of a teacher just because attended a rally supporting Israel, and forced her to hide in a locked office for hours while staff struggled to regain control — that is anti-Semitism!
Walking out of school to march in support of Palestinians is completely legitimate. But forcing a Jewish teacher to remain — as she described — locked in an office because she attended a rally in support for Israel is anti-Semitism, pure and simple.</blockquote>

The <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/u-s-senate" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Democrat-led Senate</a> rejected another nominee from the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/biden-administration" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Biden administration</a> on Tuesday.
A bid to advance the nomination of Jose Javier Rodriguez to be an assistant secretary of labor failed to reach the requisite simple majority to invoke cloture and reach a final vote.
Two Democrats — Sens. Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Robert Menendez (D-NJ) — joined with Republicans to oppose the motion while five members did not vote.
The final tally was <a href="https://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_votes/vote1181/vote_118_1_00318.htm#top" target="_blank" rel="noopener">51-44</a>. Multiple reports noted Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/4332167-biden-labor-nominee-stalls-senate-manchin-menendez/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">changed</a> <a href="https://www.politico.com/live-updates/2023/11/28/congress/labor-nominee-falls-senate-00128940" target="_blank" rel="noopener">his vote</a> to a &#8220;nay,&#8221; allowing him to bring up the nomination again at a future date.
A spokesman for Manchin <a href="https://www.politico.com/live-updates/2023/11/28/congress/labor-nominee-falls-senate-00128940" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told POLITICO</a> that Manchin voted against Rodriguez due to &#8220;concerns about his political activism and lack of experience.&#8221;
Biden first <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2021/07/02/president-biden-announces-seven-key-nominations-3/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">nominated</a> Rodriguez, an attorney and former member of the Florida state legislature, to be the assistant secretary for employment and training at the Labor Department more than two years ago. Rodriquez&#8217;s nomination got stuck in a committee deadlock in 2021, which led to Biden renominating him in 2023, <a href="https://news.bloomberglaw.com/daily-labor-report/senate-rejects-biden-pick-for-dol-training-arm-after-long-wait" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according to Bloomberg</a>.
The Senate, narrowly controlled by the Democrats, similarly <a href="https://www.reuters.com/legal/transactional/senate-rejects-biden-nominee-weil-dol-unit-chief-2022-03-31/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">failed to invoke cloture</a> on a Labor Department nominee in March 2022. Three Democrats joined with all Republicans to stop the advancement of David Weil&#8217;s nomination to become chief of the agency&#8217;s Wage and Hour Division. Weil <a href="https://news.bloomberglaw.com/daily-labor-report/david-weil-withdraws-from-consideration-for-wage-hour-regulator" target="_blank" rel="noopener">withdrew</a> from consideration soon after.
Another Biden pick whose nomination has been <a href="https://news.bloomberglaw.com/daily-labor-report/julie-sus-status-as-acting-labor-secretary-is-legal-gao-says" target="_blank" rel="noopener">tied up in the upper chamber</a> is Julie Su, a deputy who has been working as acting secretary of labor following the departure of former chief Marty Walsh earlier this year.

There have been a few instances in which Biden&#8217;s picks to help run other agencies over the past few years have dropped out or been withdrawn in the face of opposition in the Senate. They include National Highway Traffic Safety Administration nominee <a href="https://nypost.com/2023/05/31/biden-withdraws-ann-carlson-as-nominee-to-lead-us-auto-safety-agency-after-gop-pushes-back/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ann Carlson</a>, Federal Communications Commission nominee <a href="https://www.npr.org/2023/03/07/1161708600/gigi-sohn-fcc-withdraw-nomination" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Gigi Sohn</a>, and Federal Aviation Administration nominee <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2023/03/26/us/politics/faa-nominee-withdraws-phillip-washington.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Phillip Washington</a>.
In addition, there is Sen. Tommy Tuberville’s (R-AL) months-long “hold” on the Senate’s ability to quickly approve U.S. military nominees in protest against a Pentagon abortion policy.
The majority leader, Schumer, announced in a recent <a href="https://www.democrats.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/dear_colleague_112623.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">&#8220;Dear Colleague&#8221;</a> letter that he plans to have the Senate consider a resolution passed by the Rules Committee to end the standoff that has impacted <a href="https://www.defense.gov/News/News-Stories/Article/Article/3573660/pentagon-official-underscores-impact-of-senate-hold-on-dod-nominees/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">hundreds</a> of general and flag officer nominations. After which, Tuberville told POLITICO that lawmakers may be close to reaching <a href="https://www.politico.com/live-updates/2023/11/29/congress/tuberville-weighs-releasing-some-holds-00129065" target="_blank" rel="noopener">&#8220;some kind of resolution.&#8221;</a>
Schumer also said in his letter that this week, &#8220;the Senate will continue working to confirm President Biden’s diverse and experienced nominees and add more of those nominees to the federal bench.&#8221;

&#8220;Unfortunately, Senate Democrats have already suggested they want to condition urgent resources for one of our top security priorities on not addressing another one,&#8221; <a href="https://www.mcconnell.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/pressreleases?ID=3F6F54EC-DE8D-45CF-A37E-18C8C674E862" target="_blank" rel="noopener">McConnell said</a>. &#8220;Apparently, our colleagues are considering putting support for Israel on the chopping block unless we promise not to fix the border crisis they helped create.&#8221;
McConnell added that &#8220;this sort of cynical, short-sighted politics has denied the American people real border security too many times&#8221; and emphasized that he believes the &#8220;challenges facing America are connected. And the time to address them — each of them — is now.&#8221;
After rejecting a House bill to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/house-gop-proposes-israel-aid-offset-by-irs-budget-cuts" target="_blank" rel="noopener">offset $14.3 billion</a> in aid for <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/israel" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Israel</a> in its war with Hamas by slashing the same amount of funds meant for the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/internal-revenue-service-irs" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Internal Revenue Service (IRS)</a>, Schumer <a href="https://www.democrats.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/dear_colleague_112623.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> on Sunday that he aims to have the Senate consider President Joe Biden&#8217;s request for <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/us/whats-bidens-106-billion-supplemental-funding-request-2023-10-20/#:~:text=Oct%2020(Reuters)%20%2D%20U.S.,Indo%2DPacific%20and%20border%20enforcement." target="_blank" rel="noopener">roughly $106 billion</a> in <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2023/10/20/fact-sheet-white-house-calls-on-congress-to-advance-critical-national-security-priorities/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">funds for Israel, Ukraine</a>, Taiwan, border security, and more &#8220;as soon as the week of December 4th.&#8221;
The &#8220;biggest holdup&#8221; to the supplemental national security package, Schumer argued, is the &#8220;insistence&#8221; by <a href="https://apnews.com/article/mike-johnson-israel-ukraine-immigration-gop-agenda-e4054f12f83cfaa09044aa3d087396a8" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Republicans</a> to link aid to Ukraine, which is fighting against Russian invaders, to &#8220;partisan&#8221; U.S. border security policy.
&#8220;This has injected a decades old, hyper-partisan issue into overwhelmingly bipartisan priorities,&#8221; Schumer said. &#8220;Democrats stand ready to work on common-sense solutions to address immigration, but purely partisan hard-right demands, like those in H.R. 2, jeopardize the entire national security supplemental package.&#8221;
In the House, Speaker <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/mike-johnson" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mike Johnson</a> (R-LA) has signaled openness to funding national security concerns raised by the Biden administration, including <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/mccarthy-denies-zelensky-opportunity-to-address-joint-session-of-congress" target="_blank" rel="noopener">more money</a> for the Ukraine defense effort, as long as <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/house/4329407-speaker-johnson-says-hes-confident-ukraine-israel-aid-will-pass-house/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">border security is also addressed</a>.
Meanwhile, Senate Republicans <a href="https://www.judiciary.senate.gov/press/rep/releases/senate-republicans-unveil-solutions-for-southern-border-crisis" target="_blank" rel="noopener">have said</a> they are drawing elements from H.R. 2, which the GOP-led House <a href="https://www.democrats.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/dear_colleague_112623.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">passed earlier this year</a>, to develop a proposal that includes bumping up pay for border agents, resuming <a href="https://www.judiciary.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/senate_republican_working_group_one_pager.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">construction of a border wall</a>, asylum reform, and parole reform.
McConnell thanked his GOP colleagues for their efforts and touted how Senate Republicans &#8220;have been laser-focused on actually fixing our broken asylum process, not just pouring more money into a system that’s simply not working.&#8221;
&#8220;Our Democratic colleagues would do well to take these efforts seriously,&#8221; McConnell said. “The bottom line is simple: We don’t have the luxury of addressing glaring threats to our national security one at a time. Crises don’t solve themselves just because Washington can’t muster the political will to address them.&#8221;

The Senate roadmap is sure to set up a clash with the GOP-led House after it passed legislation to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/house-gop-proposes-israel-aid-offset-by-irs-budget-cuts" target="_blank" rel="noopener">offset $14.3 billion</a> in aid for <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/israel" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Israel</a> in its war with Hamas by slashing the same amount of funds meant for the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/internal-revenue-service-irs" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Internal Revenue Service (IRS)</a>. That measure passed with bipartisan support, but Schumer <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/schumer-announces-senate-wont-even-consider-house-gop-israel-aid-proposal" target="_blank" rel="noopener">responded</a> by saying the upper chamber would not even consider the proposal.
And though Speaker <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/mike-johnson" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mike Johnson</a> (R-LA) has signaled openness to funding other national security concerns raised by the Biden administration, including <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/mccarthy-denies-zelensky-opportunity-to-address-joint-session-of-congress" target="_blank" rel="noopener">more funds</a> for the Ukraine defense effort and border security, he stressed they must be considered in the &#8220;<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/speaker-johnson-hopes-to-change-washington-starting-with-israel-aid-offset-by-irs-cuts" target="_blank" rel="noopener">proper order</a>&#8221; as the House strives to be &#8220;good stewards of the taxpayers’ resources&#8221; under his watch.
In his letter, Schumer shared additional priorities for the Democrat-controlled Senate, including passing the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/schumer-moves-to-force-disclosure-of-ufo-secrets" target="_blank" rel="noopener">National Defense Authorization Act</a> before the end of 2023, negotiating with the House on full-year spending bills ahead of two government shutdown deadlines early next year, and setting up a classified briefing to update senators on the situation in Ukraine.
The New York Democrat also declared that he will have the full Senate consider <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/4309704-senate-rules-panel-paves-way-to-break-tubervilles-military-holds/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a resolution passed</a> by the Rules Committee to break Sen. Tommy Tuberville&#8217;s (R-AL) <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/senator-reports-former-cia-director-to-capitol-police" target="_blank" rel="noopener">months-long “hold”</a> on the Senate’s ability to quickly approve U.S. military nominees in protest against a Pentagon abortion policy.
&#8220;Senators should expect long days and nights, and potentially weekends in December,&#8221; Schumer <a href="https://www.democrats.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/dear_colleague_112623.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said in ending his letter</a>.

The <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/u-s-senate" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Senate</a> passed a short-term spending bill on Wednesday night that will continue to fund the government at current levels until early 2024. 
The bill, which was first passed in the House with Democrat support, passed in the Senate 87-11. The bill was criticized by some Republicans as it contained no spending cuts and maintained the spending status quo. 
&#8220;Keeping the government is a good outcome, of course, but we have a lot more work to do after Thanksgiving,&#8221; Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/live-blog/government-shutdown-bill-senate-live-updates-rcna125326" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in a speech after the vote. “I know both sides genuinely care about approving aid to Israel and Ukraine and helping innocent civilians in Gaza. So I hope we can come to an agreement even if neither side gets everything they insist on.&#8221; 
In the House, the stopgap <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/johnson-led-house-passes-bill-to-avert-government-shutdown-with-dem-support" target="_blank" rel="noopener">spending bill passed</a> 336-95, with 209 Democrats and 127 Republicans voting for it. Schumer praised the House for not working with the “hard right” and voting to continue government funding. 
&#8220;Obviously, the Republican-led House needed Democratic votes to avoid a shutdown, and I was pleased to see that the speaker was willing to work with Democrats and resisted the siren song of the hard right in the House,&#8221; he <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/schumer-good-night-american-people-senate-passes-bill-averting-government-shutdown" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. &#8220;And if that continues, we can avoid further shutdowns and finish the work of funding the government.&#8221;
Ten Senate Republicans and Colorado Democratic Sen. Michael Bennet voted against the bill.

Vance (OH). 
An amendment by Paul to cut spending and funding for the IRS was <a href="https://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_votes/vote1181/vote_118_1_00311.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener">defeated</a> 65-32. The amendment would have reduced “continuing funding by 15 percent, except for the Department of Defense, military construction, and the Department of Veterans Affairs and to rescind $30,000,000,000 from enforcement funds provided to the Internal Revenue Service.”
After passage of the continuing resolution in the House on Tuesday, some Republicans in the House <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/house-republicans-help-block-spending-bill-after-bipartisan-stopgap-passes" target="_blank" rel="noopener">have blocked passage</a> of additional spending bills, saying that conservative voters did not want them to continue to kick spending reform down the road.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) said that the two-step continuing resolution that <a href="https://www.congress.gov/bill/118th-congress/house-bill/6363">funds certain federal agencies</a> through the middle of January while others would get money through early February was necessary. 
“This two-step continuing resolution is a necessary bill to place House Republicans in the best position to fight for conservative victories. During a <a href="https://www.c-span.org/video/?531600-1/house-republican-leadership-news-conference" target="_blank" rel="noopener">press conference</a> on Thursday, new House Speaker <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/mike-johnson" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mike Johnson</a> (R-LA) emphasized he does not favor an Israel assistance package that does not include federal spending cuts.
“We are in dire straits as a nation,&#8221; Johnson <a href="https://twitter.com/therecount/status/1720092581043053010" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. He stressed that tackling the <a href="https://fiscaldata.treasury.gov/americas-finance-guide/national-debt/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">$33.7 trillion</a> national debt is a top priority, declaring, &#8220;We want to protect and help and assist our friend Israel, but we have to keep our own house in order as well.” Johnson also said he has made it &#8220;very clear&#8221; to the Biden administration and Senate Republicans that &#8220;we&#8217;re going to do this in a responsible manner.&#8221;

The speaker also vowed that Ukraine will &#8220;come next&#8221; and suggested it could be paired with border security. Johnson said he believes a bipartisan agreement can be reached on those issues.
In the Senate, a bipartisan, 60-vote coalition is needed to overcome a filibuster. Some Republicans have warned against complicating a popular Israel assistance proposal by adding more to it, while others <a href="https://www.politico.com/live-updates/2023/10/24/congress/bidens-big-bill-in-trouble-ukraine-israel-border-00123292" target="_blank" rel="noopener">signaled they are open</a> to linking aid packages.

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen signaled on Monday that she has no doubt the U.S. could fund Israel and Ukraine in their ongoing military conflicts despite America&#8217;s rising gross national debt.
In an <a href="https://news.sky.com/story/we-can-certainly-afford-two-wars-us-treasury-secretary-says-12985335" target="_blank" rel="noopener">interview</a> with Britain&#8217;s Sky News, Yellen told the outlet that the U.S. could &#8220;absolutely&#8221; afford to provide military aid to Israel in its war against the militant terrorist organization Hamas while funding more support to Ukraine in its ongoing struggle with Russia.
&#8220;America can certainly afford to stand with Israel and to support Israel&#8217;s military needs, and we also can and must support Ukraine in its struggle against Russia,&#8221; Yellen said in an interview with Sky News.
Last month, America&#8217;s gross national debt <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/us-national-debt-surpasses-33t-for-first-time-in-history" target="_blank" rel="noopener">surpassed</a> $33 trillion, which didn&#8217;t draw heavy concern for Yellen, who said at the time that the net interest as a share of gross domestic product (GDP) remains under control by the federal government.
In her interview with Sky News, she emphasized the U.S. economy is doing &#8220;extremely well.&#8221;
&#8220;Inflation has been high, and it&#8217;s been a concern to households, it&#8217;s come down considerably,&#8221; she said. &#8220;At the same time, we have about the strongest labor market we&#8217;ve seen in 50 years with 3.8% unemployment. And at the same time, America — the Biden administration — has passed legislation that is strengthening our economy in years to come for the medium term,&#8221; referring to the Fiscal Responsibility Act that claims to reduce budget deficits by $1.5 million over the next decade.
Yellen said the economic impacts of the Israel-Hamas war were too early to gauge, as volatile oil prices remain a concern while other Middle Eastern countries, including Iran, could get involved in the conflict.
Still, the nation&#8217;s top treasury official said Israel and Ukraine remain a &#8220;priority&#8221; for the U.S. and called on GOP House lawmakers to fill the vacant speaker position after the lower chamber of Congress removed former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) nearly two weeks ago.
&#8220;It&#8217;s really up to the House to find, seat a speaker and to put us in a position where legislation can be passed,&#8221; Yellen said, adding that &#8220;it shows that there&#8217;s a problem in the Republican party in terms of being able to effectively govern the country.&#8221;

An <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/u-s-selects-2000-troops-for-potential-deployment-to-support-israel-report" target="_blank" rel="noopener">estimated</a> 1,400 Israelis have been killed since Hamas launched a brutal terrorist attack on Israel on October 7, including more than 280 soldiers, while roughly 3,200 more Israelis have been injured. In addition, Hamas is believed to have taken nearly 200 hostages. Iranian officials reportedly said Hamas would release hostages held captive in Gaza but said that making preparations to free civilians is &#8220;impossible&#8221; under Israeli bombing.
U.S. officials said on Sunday the American death toll in Israel reached 30, and more than a dozen remain missing. It is unclear how many are being held hostage in Gaza after Biden said last week that some U.S. citizens were among those taken.
During the Sky News interview, Yellen stressed the importance of sparing civilian lives &#8220;to the maximum extent possible.&#8221;
U.S. officials, including President Joe Biden, have reiterated their &#8220;unwavering support&#8221; for Israel&#8217;s right to defend itself in its war against Hamas.
Biden rejected the claim that the U.S. could not financially support Israel and Ukraine in their ongoing conflicts during an <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/president-joe-biden-2023-60-minutes-transcript/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">interview</a> with &#8220;60 Minutes,&#8221; adding that both could impact the safety of America.

Officials have reported more than 1,300 people in Israel have been killed in the attacks and roughly 3,200 more injured.  At least 27 Americans died in the attacks. Senate Majority Leader <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/chuck-schumer" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Chuck Schumer</a> (D-NY) met with Chinese Communist Party General Secretary <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/xi-jinping" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Xi Jinping</a> on Monday to discuss the ongoing <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/hamas" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hamas</a> terrorist attacks on Israel and the U.S.-China relationship.
During the meeting, Schumer said that China should have been more supportive of Israel <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/israeli-death-toll-skyrockets-following-iran-backed-terror-attacks" target="_blank" rel="noopener">following attacks</a> that left more than 900 Israelis dead and 2,300 <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/International/palestinian-civilians-suffer-israel-hamas-crossfire-death-toll/story?id=103828889" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wounded</a>, saying that China should use its influence with Iran to stop the attacks on Israel.
“I urge you and the Chinese people to stand with the Israeli people and condemn the cowardly and vicious attacks,” Schumer <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/schumer-china-xi-jinping-israel-rcna119438" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. “I was very disappointed, to be honest, by the foreign ministry’s statement that showed no sympathy or support for Israel during these troubled times.&#8221;
Joined <a href="https://apnews.com/article/schumer-china-visit-congress-crapo-a863b1c8600e95d86c14e4f444db5632" target="_blank" rel="noopener">by</a> Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-NH), Sen. Jon Ossof (D-GA), Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA), and Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA), Schumer met with Xi for 80 minutes at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. The trip is the first visit by a delegation of lawmakers to China since 2019. 
At a press conference after the meeting with Xi, Schumer said that China should press Iran over the attacks.
“They have influence with Iran in many different ways, and we asked them to do everything they could to not have Iran spread this conflagration through themselves and through Hezbollah,” he <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2023/10/09/world/asia/xi-schumer-meeting-china-us.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. 
On Monday, Chinese spokesperson Mao Ning said China was a “common friend of Israel and Palestine.”
“We sincerely hope to see Palestine and Israel co-existing peacefully and sharing security and development,” Mao added. 
On Sunday, China <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/israel-expected-stronger-condemnation-hamas-china-beijing-embassy-official-2023-10-08/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">called</a> for a two-state solution and the creation of “an independent State of Palestine.&#8221; China’s statement was criticized by Israeli diplomatic official Yuval Waks, who said he hoped to see a &#8220;stronger condemnation&#8221; of Hamas.

Xi and Schumer also <a href="https://apnews.com/article/china-united-states-schumer-israel-hamas-ea14fb9f859a4dd33165c83deb9a0209" target="_blank" rel="noopener">discussed</a> economic relations between the U.S. and China and the fentanyl crisis in America. Much of the fentanyl that makes its way into the U.S. is sourced from China, <a href="https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/justice-department-announces-eight-indictments-against-china-based-chemical-manufacturing#:~:text=Chinese%20chemical%20companies%20are%20fueling,our%20country%20and%20into%20Mexico." target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to the Department of Justice. 
“We have 1,000 reasons to make China-U.S. relations work well and not a single reason to make China-U.S. relations bad,” Xi said, adding that he hoped there could be a “peaceful coexistence” between the two nations. 
Tensions have been high between the U.S. and China in recent months, especially after the discovery of a Chinese spy balloon making its way across the continental U.S.

Trump has been very vocal in his complaints about the trial — which he has referred to as a continuation of previous politically motivated &#8220;witch hunts&#8221; — prompting Whoopi Goldberg to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/whoopi-goldberg-is-very-upset-that-donald-trump-gets-free-speech" target="_blank" rel="noopener">complain</a> on &#8220;The View&#8221; that no one was limiting his speech.
Goldberg made the comments during Tuesday&#8217;s broadcast, suggesting that Trump&#8217;s complaints amounted to the kind of threats that should result in his speech being restricted — and suggesting that if she were to make similar statements, the First Amendment would not protect her.
