Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer resigned on Monday after a whistleblower complaint prompted an investigation launched earlier this year by the Inspector General&#8217;s Office.
White House Communications Director Steven Cheung made the official announcement in a post on X, saying Chavez-DeRemer would leave the administration to work in the private sector.
&#8220;Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer will be leaving the Administration to take a position in the private sector. She has done a phenomenal job in her role by protecting American workers, enacting fair labor practices, and helping Americans gain additional skills to improve their lives. Keith Sonderling will take on the role of Acting Secretary of Labor,&#8221; he posted.
Chavez DeRemer is the third Cabinet member to leave the Trump administration this year.
News of the U.S. (NOTUS) was first to report that Chavez-DeRemer was likely to step down, while <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/04/20/us-news/labor-secretary-lori-chavez-deremer-resigns-from-trump-admin-after-misconduct-investigation-first-exposed-by-the-post/">The New York Post</a> tied her exit to the probe into her alleged use of government-funded travel to visit family and friends, among other things.
According to the report, DeRemer was accused of encouraging staffers to fabricate &#8220;official&#8221; government trips to areas where she had friends and family so she could visit them at government expense. Also at issue were claims that she had been drinking during work hours and in the office, and allegations that she had been carrying on an extramarital affair with one of her security guards.
The investigation also delved into a series of <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/04/16/us-news/labor-dept-watchdog-probing-texts-lori-chavez-deremers-husband-and-father-sent-staffers/">text messages</a> between Chavez-DeRemer&#8217;s staff members and her husband and her father.
In one such exchange, a staffer identified only as a woman, texted Shawn DeRemer, &#8220;I’ve been having so much fun traveling with LCD and being in the moment for everything!! I promise from now on I’ll check in.&#8221;
&#8220;You better. I was feeling forgotten. I figured you were still in church repenting after your exposure to the demon state of Oregon,&#8221; was DeRemer&#8217;s reply.

Two U.S. Embassy officials and two Mexican officials were killed in a car accident in northern Mexico on Sunday.
A <a href="https://www.elpasotimes.com/story/news/crime/2026/04/19/mexico-us-embassy-staff-police-officials-die-in-chihuahua-accident-after-drug-lab-raids/89692343007/">report</a> published by the El Paso Times stated that all four had been killed in a car accident in the northern Mexican state of Chihuahua — which shares a border with southwest Texas. They had been participating in an operation to locate and destroy drug labs in the area.
The two Mexican officials were identified by Chihuahua State authorities as Chihuahua State Investigations Agency Director Pedro Román Oseguera Cervantes and officer Manuel Genaro Méndez Montes. The two U.S. embassy officials have not yet been identified.
U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Ronald Johnson shared his thoughts in a post on X, offering his condolences to the families of those who had been killed and commenting on the inherent risk present in the jobs they did every day.

The accident came just one day after Chihuahua State police had announced the discovery of two large <a href="https://www.breitbart.com/border/2026/04/19/u-s-and-mexican-police-officials-killed-in-highway-crash-after-lab-raids/">methamphetamine labs</a> in the mountains near Morelos — in the southern part of the state. The labs were reportedly located using drones.

A gunman who appeared to be targeting his own &#8220;descendants&#8221; opened fire in three different homes across the city of Shreveport, Louisiana, on Saturday night — and was shot and killed after he attempted to carjack a vehicle in order to escape.
The suspect in the horrific murder spree was identified later in the day as 31-year-old U.S. Army veteran Shamar Elkins.
According to a <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/04/19/us-news/8-kids-ages-1-to-14-killed-in-mass-shootings-across-shreveport-louisiana/">report</a> published Sunday by The New York Post, Elkins shot ten people, eight of them fatally, in two homes on one street and one other home on a nearby street. The two survivors were adult women, and all eight of the deceased were children ranging in age from one year old to 14 years old. Some of the children are believed to be his.
&#8220;The individual responsible once leaving this scene performed a carjacking right here in close proximity to the corner of West 79th and Lynnwood, at which point in time, Shreveport police patrol officers got behind that vehicle in a chase incident,&#8221; Shreveport Police Department spokesperson Christopher Bordelon said during a press conference. The suspect was shot and killed by police.
&#8220;You have three different scenes, the shooting itself occurred just down the road over here, the 300 block of West 79th,” <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/louisiana-shreveport-mass-shooting-rcna340868">Bordelon added</a>. “There’s also another shooting related to this on Harrison Street, and then there’s an adjacent residence on West 79 where one of the victims ran to after the shooting.&#8221;
&#8220;This is an extensive scene unlike anything most of us have ever seen,&#8221; Police Chief Wayne Smith said, noting that the official crime scene included the scene of the carjacking in addition to the three homes.
&#8220;This is a tragic situation, maybe the worst tragic situation we’ve ever had in Shreveport. So, right now we’re going to process the information and it&#8217;s in very good hands,&#8221; Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux said. &#8220;It’s a terrible morning.&#8221;
A motive for the shooting has not been determined, although several reports indicated that the suspect may have been involved with one of the women who was shot.

Country singer Shane McAnally responded on Friday to a wave of backlash directed at him over a video he&#8217;d posted to Instagram. In the video, his five-month-old called out for &#8220;mama&#8221; — and he laughed as he informed the baby that he had two dads and no mama.
&#8220;We found it hilarious,&#8221; McAnally <a href="https://x.com/CollinRugg/status/2044911121916997764">said of the video</a>. &#8220;He&#8217;s five months old, he obviously doesn&#8217;t understand English.&#8221;
&#8220;Babies usually say dada first, but people wouldn&#8217;t then say the babies are only wanting their dads? It doesn&#8217;t really make sense,&#8221; he added.
The musician also complained that the whole thing had been taken &#8220;out of context,&#8221; saying that he was &#8220;appalled&#8221; by some of the comments he&#8217;d seen.
McAnally did not explain what &#8220;context&#8221; he believed critics were missing, but a number of them pointed out the fact that it was not the first time McAnally had set the baby up as a social media punchline: a video posted in December of 2025 showed the same baby, all smiles as dad (off-camera) talked about his siblings and pets — and then suddenly appeared concerned at the mention of &#8220;two dads.&#8221; The video, still pinned to McAnally&#8217;s Instagram page, is titled &#8220;6 week old homophobic baby.&#8221;
The country singer has been dabbling in stand-up comedy recently, but the &#8220;homophobic baby&#8221; got more backlash than laughs.

Tapper began by noting that Stefanik had called out the anti-semitic protests at the time, saying, &#8220;You were praised by many in the Jewish community when you criticized the college presidents who refused to condemn students for chanting ‘From the river to the sea,’ which many Jews interpret to be, and you agreed — you characterized it as a genocide, a call for genocide, to wipe out all the Jews in Israel, ‘From the river to the sea.'&#8221;
But then he pivoted: &#8220;So just to be clear, you believe that wiping out an entire civilization is genocidal and nobody should make a call to do such a thing?&#8221;
Stefanik said yes, genocide is always bad.
&#8220;That’s why the question I asked, which was, does calling for the genocide of Jews violate your university’s code of conduct, yes or no? I worded it because it was a very simple straightforward question. It was not a political one. And the world heard as these universities equivocated saying it depends on the context or it’s a context-dependent decision. It is not,&#8221; she said.
Tapper dropped the other shoe then, referencing Trump&#8217;s blustery Truth Social posted threatening the Iranian regime and asking, &#8220;What did you think when President Trump threatened to obliterate the entire Iranian civilization?&#8221;
Stefanik pushed back immediately, noting that Trump had been speaking directly to the Iranian regime in an attempt to verbally strong-arm them to the negotiating table.
&#8220;And what did it do? It brought the Iranians to the table. It led to the ceasefire. We know that President Trump has very strong statements when it comes to his tweets, but it has been targeted towards the Iranian terrorist regime,&#8221; she said.
&#8220;He said the entire civilization will die,&#8221; Tapper insisted.
&#8220;He was focused on the Iranian terrorist regime. And Jake, isn’t it true that it brought the Iranians to the table to a cease-fire agreement?&#8221; Stefanik continued.
&#8220;I don’t know,&#8221; Tapper replied.
&#8220;It did, because they had a ceasefire agreement going on for days. And President Trump is correct to call out the Iranian terrorist regime, which has financed Hamas and Hezbollah, which I believe has led to some of the financing of the skyrocketing antisemitism,&#8221; Stefanik said.
&#8220;Yes, but I’m not talking about the regime,&#8221; Tapper protested.
&#8220;Jake, you can ask this question, but the reality is it was targeted towards the Iranian terrorist regime. It was an effective tool to bring them to the table. They have no cards,&#8221; Stefanik added.
Tapper continued to insist that he was not talking about the regime, and that what Trump had said was clearly a call for genocide — but Stefanik was not convinced.
&#8220;I just have to say it’s interesting that a 20-year-old college kid on a campus yelling ‘From the river to the sea,’ that’s worthy of condemnation, but a President of the United States who actually has—&#8221; Tapper began.
&#8220;You don’t think it’s worthy of condemnation? Jake, you don’t think it’s worthy of condemnation of students that are targeting Jewish students, that are physically assaulting them, that are spitting in their face, that are drawing swastikas on their doors, these students who have to hire security?”
“I don’t need a lesson on what it’s like to be a Jewish student,” Tapper replied.
“But you’re equivocating, like those university presidents,&#8221; Stefanik declared.
The two went on in that same vein for several minutes as Tapper tried unsuccessfully to end the interview.
&#8220;President Trump was not calling for genocide. Shame on CNN for saying that,&#8221; Stefanik jabbed as they wrapped the segment.

Nearly one in ten children born in the United States is born to an illegal alien mother — or, in colloquial terms, would be considered an &#8220;anchor baby.&#8221;
According to <a href="https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2026/03/31/about-9-of-us-births-in-2023-were-to-unauthorized-or-temporary-legal-immigrant-mothers/">data published</a> in late March by the Pew Research Center, Illegal immigrant mothers were responsible for approximately 9% of the 3.6 million babies born in the United States in 2023. Of the 320,000 babies born, the data indicates that nearly 260,000 would not be eligible for citizenship if President Donald Trump&#8217;s executive order ending birthright citizenship had already been in place.
The breakdown of some of those numbers showed several different scenarios: first, 60,000 of the babies born to illegal immigrant mothers had fathers who were living in the United States legally and would thus qualify for citizenship through their fathers. Another 15,000 babies were born to mothers whose legal status in the United States was temporary and fathers who were either not citizens or not in the United States legally. The remaining 245,000 were born to mothers and fathers who had no legal statues in the United States.
Trump signed Executive Order (EO) 14160 on January 20, 2025, in an attempt to put an end to birthright citizenship. The Trump administration has argued that his order sought to &#8220;restores the original meaning&#8221; of the citizenship clause — which was to determine the citizenship of freed slaves — and therefore it should not be applied to babies born of parents who are either in the United States temporarily or unlawfully.
While the support for Trump&#8217;s order is almost solely from Republicans, that has not always been the case. In 1993, for example, former Senate Majority Leader <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/resurfaced-clips-top-democrats-echoing-trump-birthright-citizenship-spark-online-uproar-wow">Harry Reid</a> (D-NV) called for an end to birthright citizenship, saying that it had been a mistake.
&#8220;If making it easy to be an illegal alien isn’t enough, how about offering a reward for being an illegal immigrant?&#8221; Reid said at the time. &#8220;No sane country would do that. Right? Guess again. If you break our laws by entering this country without permission and give birth to a child, we reward that child with U.S. citizenship and [a] guarantee of full access to all public and social services this society provides — and that’s a lot of services.&#8221;
The Democratic Party has shifted its stance dramatically in the years since, and challengers to Trump&#8217;s order have argued that illegal aliens, despite not having legal status in the United States, were nonetheless living in the country and subject to its laws.
The order, which never went into effect due to the numerous legal challenges, was argued before the Supreme Court in early 2026, and a decision is expected sometime in late June or early July.

Round two of negotiations with Iran will take place this week despite attacks on the Strait of Hormuz, President Donald Trump said on Sunday— but he also put the regime on notice, warning that the United States is prepared to resume an all out barrage of strikes on Iran.
While officials originally said the negotiation is being led by JD Vance, on Sunday morning the president revealed that the vice president would not be making the trip to Pakistan due to security concerns.
Trump told several outlets by phone that the vice president would not be making the trip to the Pakistani capital for the second round of meetings, explaining that the Secret Service was not comfortable with him doing so with just 24 hours advance notice. Instead, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff is expected to arrive on Monday evening ahead of the talks and President Trump&#8217;s son-in-law Jared Kushner is also set to attend the Tuesday meetings.
Trump did not rule out making a trip to Islamabad himself, The New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/04/19/us-news/iran-war-negotiations-will-resume-this-week-trump-tells-the-post/">reported</a>, but said that he wanted to see how the next round of negotiations went before he committed to his own next move: &#8220;I would say maybe at a little bit later date. Pope Leo has been broadly commenting on military action against Iran since the war between the Iranian regime and Israel in 2025 and through Operation Epic Fury, which began at the end of February. He has repeatedly called for peace through meaningful dialogue in spite of repeated demonstrations proving that the Iranian regime is neither interested in good faith negotiations nor willing to facilitate any kind of lasting peace.
Trump has pushed back, pointing out the clear examples of Iran&#8217;s aggression and refusal to negotiate honestly and arguing that continuing diplomacy in the face of such aggression was as unwise as it was dangerous. During a recent press gaggle, when asked what he&#8217;d say to Iran about the fact that four civilian protesters — one of them a woman — were set to be executed, Trump suggested that the press <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/watch-the-message-trump-wants-passed-along-to-the-pope">inform the Pope</a> of that development.

&#8220;So, I asked for the chaplain on the Navy ship to just come visit us for a minute, and when that man walked in, I&#8217;d never met him before in my life. But I saw the cross on his collar, and I just broke down in tears,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;It&#8217;s very hard to fully grasp what we just went through.&#8221;
Wiseman also issued a challenge to the world, saying that it was very easy in today&#8217;s society to get used to a more passive existence – but that progress depended on embracing hard work.

President Donald Trump lashed out on Thursday, asking via Truth Social who was “dumber” — former Fox News personality Tucker Carlson or former intelligence official Joe Kent.
“Who’s dumber, Tucker Carlson or Joe Kent? It’s very interesting!” Trump’s post began, and he went on to lay out his case for Kent.
The president explained that he’d first met Kent at Dover Air Force Base during the dignified transfer of Kent&#8217;s late wife, who was killed by Iranian terror proxies in Syria.
“Her casket was being brought to Dover, along with the rest, although he married again, quite quickly, in my opinion,” Trump continued, jabbing at Kent over his Congressional losses. “In any event, a number of years later, I noticed the same person was running for Congress in Washington State, and lost. I then noticed a couple of years later, he was running again, and lost.”
Trump then explained that he’d felt bad for Kent, who had run as a Republican, and for that reason had offered him a position in the administration.
“I told my people, ‘Hire him for the White House. Give him a job, make him feel good, he lost his wife and two Elections.’ They did so and, while I rarely saw him, I certainly didn’t expect disloyalty, but that’s what I got,” Trump added. “He was really a SLEAZEBAG, and some would say, on top of it all, A LEAKER!”
Trump concluded by suggesting that he would no longer make hiring decisions just because he felt bad for someone: “NO MORE MR. NICE GUY!”
Lumping in several other relatively recent critics, Trump compared Kent to Carlson, Megyn Kelly and Candace Owens as well: “Kent is a LOSER, just like Tucker, Candace, Megyn, and the rest of them are LOSERS — You’re born that way, LOW IQ, and there’s not a damn thing they’re going to be able to do about it!”
Kent, who recently resigned as director of the National Counterterrorism Center, cited disagreements over the Trump administration&#8217;s actions in Iran as the reason for his exit and claimed that the United States was acting in Israel&#8217;s interest.

President Donald Trump jabbed at Pope Leo over his criticisms of the war with Iran while speaking to reporters on Thursday, saying that the Catholic leader should be the one responding to the news that the Iranian regime was continuing to execute civilian protesters.
Trump, who has been publicly feuding with Pope Leo for some time over the war, was asked what he would say to Iran about reports that several protesters — one of whom is a woman — were set to be executed for opposing the regime. He pushed back on the reporter, arguing that Pope Leo should be the one to answer that question.

&#8220;Well, tell that to the Pope,&#8221; Trump said, and as the reporters scrambled to ask more questions, he talked over them. &#8220;What did you say? Tell that to the Pope. Tell him that Iran is going to execute — did you just hear that Iran is going to execute four people including a woman?&#8221;
Pope Leo has repeatedly criticized the Trump administration, saying early on that Iran should be dealt with through diplomacy rather than military action. His critiques have grown more pointed with time, and he recently claimed that God would not &#8220;bless&#8221; any military conflict.
&#8220;God does not bless any conflict. Anyone who is a disciple of Christ, the Prince of Peace, is never on the side of those who once wielded the sword and today drop bombs. Military action will not create space for freedom or times of #Peace, which comes only from the patient promotion of coexistence and dialogue among peoples.&#8221;
Trump said Thursday he did not expect to meet with the Pope any time soon, adding, &#8220;It&#8217;s very important that the Pope understands &#8230; Iran killed 42,000 people that were totally unarmed, there were protesters, Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon.&#8221;

Video shared on Tuesday shows the moment an Oklahoma high school principal rushed and tackled an armed former student, preventing what authorities say could have been a school shooting.
The security footage, obtained by NBC affiliate KFOR, captures Principal Kirk Moore of Pauls Valley High School confronting the suspect roughly one week before the video was made public.
The video appears to show someone else opening the door, allowing the former student into the building. The suspect then walks into the lobby, briefly hiding behind a vending machine before stepping into view. Just as he approached an office door, the door opened, and Moore barreled toward him.

Moore ducked his head and shoulders as he ran, hitting the suspect in the chest with his full weight and tackling him onto a nearby bench, pinning him there. Moore was shot in the leg at some point during the scuffle.
Another man, identified later as Moore&#8217;s assistant principal, ran out of the same office seconds later. Assessing the situation, he quickly knocked the handgun away from the suspect, then picked it up and secured it inside the office.
The two men restrain the suspect — identified as former student Victor Lee Hawkins, 20, until law enforcement arrives and takes him into custody.
Moore released a lengthy statement after the shooting, thanking local law enforcement and first responders for their support and the community for their prayers and well-wishes.
&#8220;Pauls Valley schools are safe communities unaccustomed to the type of threat we witnessed on Tuesday. Nevertheless, like so many educators around the country, we prepare for these events through training and careful assessments of threats,&#8221; Moore said. &#8220;I am grateful that my instincts and training, as well as God’s hand, were available to come to me on Tuesday.&#8221;
