<p>Ousted &#8220;60 Minutes&#8221; anchor Scott Pelley teared up when he claimed during a recent interview that he had &#8220;been in combat for this country.&#8221;</p>
<p>Pelley was terminated &#8220;for cause&#8221; just days earlier by executive producer Nick Bilton, after blowing up at the network&#8217;s new leadership under Bari Weiss — and he got emotional when he responded to some of the comments President Donald Trump had made about him.</p>

<p>&#8220;Stupid, I can take that. Stiff? Yeah, probably,&#8221; Pelley conceded, and then clearly struggled to get control of his emotions as he continued. &#8220;Don&#8217;t care about the country? I&#8217;ve never worn the uniform, but <span style="font-size: 16px;">I’ve been in combat for this country. In Afghanistan and Iraq, Kuwait. Been shot at. Spent nights in fox holes filling up with water in the desert.&#8221;</span></p>
<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m not aware that the President of the United States has ever done any of those things for his country,&#8221; Pelley continued, still choked up a bit as he added, &#8220;Please correct me if I&#8217;m wrong.&#8221;</p>
<p>He went on to argue that people became journalists because they &#8220;love the First Amendment&#8221; and because they truly love the United States.</p>
<p>&#8220;While all the other descriptions that the president used about me might be applicable, not that one,&#8221; he said, his voice breaking.</p>
<p>During the same interview, Pelley claimed that the firings at CBS News — his and several others — were like the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/scott-pelley-compares-cbs-ouster-to-family-being-murdered-in-over-the-top-interview">murders</a> of close friends and family members.</p>

<p>Comedian and HBO host Bill Maher ripped into artists who have abandoned plans to perform for America&#8217;s 250th birthday celebrations, arguing that they&#8217;ve played into President Donald Trump&#8217;s hands.</p>
<p>Maher, during his show on Friday, said that when musicians declared that they would not take part in the festivities, they were making it look as though they did not love the United States — which is exactly the position Trump and others have accused them of taking.</p>

<p>&#8220;Wouldn’t it have been better to play this gig?&#8221; he asked. &#8220;It&#8217;s a month-long gig, lots of people, like — just celebrating America. Can’t we all just celebrate America itself and leave Trump out of it?&#8221;</p>
<p>Nineties rap icon <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/vanilla-ice-blows-up-the-america-250-boycott-narrative">Vanilla Ice</a> — who has not withdrawn from the America 250 celebrations — made a similar case earlier in the week.</p>
<p>&#8220;All we’re doing is celebrating the birthday of our country, what’s the big deal here? And as far as entertainers, I don’t think it’s fair to put any of us on a pedestal like that as far as politics goes because, you know, it shouldn’t matter: we’re just here to play,&#8221; he said.</p>

<p>Ousted &#8220;60 Minutes&#8221; anchor Scott Pelley wasted no time in getting in front of a camera to trash his former employer, likening the firings at CBS News to &#8220;murders&#8221; of close friends and family.</p>
<p>Pelley, 68, conceded during a New York Times interview that it may have been a stretch to claim that new boss Bari Weiss had &#8220;murdered&#8221; his show — but he then went on to argue that the mass terminations were like the &#8220;murders&#8221; of family members.</p>
<p>&#8220;No one saw the Black Thursday massacre coming,&#8221; Pelley said, arguing that even after he blew up at network execs, it never occurred to him that he might be fired for doing so: &#8220;Some reporter I turned out to be. I just didn’t connect the dots.&#8221;</p>

<p>Near tears, he added, &#8220;I am not emotional about this because I have lost this job. I’ve done it for a long time. I’ve had the greatest experiences. But the people I leave behind, treated in this way? That breaks my heart, and it’s going to take me a long time to get over it.&#8221;</p>
<p>Pelley was also mocked for saying he&#8217;d gone &#8220;into literal combat&#8221; with his CBS colleagues, as people referred to him on X as a &#8220;low-rent Brian Williams.&#8221; Another joked, &#8220;Old Blood ‘n Guts Pelley we used to call him in the trenches.&#8221;</p>
<p>New &#8220;60 Minutes&#8221; executive producer Nick Bilton was the one who fired Pelley &#8220;<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/longtime-60-minutes-reporter-fired-after-attacks-on-new-leadership">for cause</a>,&#8221; citing insubordination, but Weiss made it clear during a following staff meeting that she supported the move.</p>

<p>&#8220;As for that interview, Kristen and the &#8216;Meet the Press&#8217; team conducted it here in Wisconsin inside a barn at the request of the White House,&#8221; Gutierrez explained. &#8220;There were multiple interruptions when rain repeatedly was hitting the metal roof of the barn. Following those challenges as well as a back and forth about election integrity where the president disagreed with the questions, President Trump ended the interview about 50 minutes after it began.&#8221;</p>
<p>Mediaite shared a <a href="https://www.mediaite.com/media/news/ive-had-enough-trump-storms-out-of-meet-the-press-interview-in-wild-fashion-explodes-on-nbcs-kristen-welker-after-she-hits-him-with-fact-checks/">transcript</a> of the exchange, giving some insight into what ultimately led to Trump&#8217;s exit — and how it played out on Friday.</p>
<p>Welker began by pressing Trump on the &#8220;anti-weaponization&#8221; fund and whether that might be used to give taxpayer money to people who were involved in the riot on Capitol Hill on January 6th.</p>
<p>&#8220;Do you think anyone who attacked police officers on January 6th should get taxpayer money?” Welker asked.</p>
<p class="qualified qualified-2">“I wouldn’t be inclined to say so, but I have to see it,” Trump said, then pivoted: “I can tell you this: 97% of those people, you look at them, the FBI or whoever it was, cause you had a lot of crooked cops, you had dirty cops. Comey was a dirty cop. A guy like Bolton was a dirty cop.”</p>
<p>“But there is no evidence that people who—” Welker protested.</p>
<p>“Wait a minute. You think Comey was a straight cop?&#8221; Trump asked.</p>
<p>The conversation continued in that vein until Trump drew a comparison to the election in California — where votes are still being counted from June 2 primary elections — and argued that it was &#8220;rigged.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;It was a dirty election. And it’s happening again right now in California,&#8221; he said.</p>
<p>“Do you have evidence to support that?” Welker asked.</p>
<p>Trump: &#8220;All I have to do is look.&#8221;</p>
<p>“But that’s not evidence,” Welker pushed back.</p>
<p>Complaining about the fact that the state was still counting votes nearly a week later, Trump asserted, &#8220;They’re crooked just like you’re crooked, your press is crooked. And &#8216;Meet the Press&#8217; is crooked.&#8221;</p>
<p>Welker insisted that she was not crooked, prompting Trump to respond, &#8220;Really? Well, you play right into their hands then. You’re either crooked or you’re stupid.&#8221;</p>

<p>At least 12 people were shot at an Ohio music festival on Saturday — and two suspects, according to local police, have not yet been apprehended.</p>
<p>The Old West End Festival, billed as a family-friendly event, came to a screeching halt when two suspects — believed to be shooting at each other — opened fire and sent bystanders fleeing in all directions. According to several reports, around sixteen shots were fired around 5:4o pm local time — and at least 12 people were shot.</p>
<p>Ohio State Rep. Josh Williams (R) shared video that showed the chaos unfolding on the scene.</p>

<p>According to a CNN <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2026/06/06/us/old-west-end-festival-toledo-ohio-shooting?Date=20260607&amp;Profile=CNN&amp;utm_content=1780796424&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter">report</a>, Toledo Police Deputy Chief Joe Heffernan said Saturday that authorities believe the shooting began as a dispute between the two suspects who were &#8220;probably shooting at each other,&#8221; neither of whom have yet been apprehended.</p>
<p>Police Lt. Dan Gerken spoke at a news conference on Saturday evening, saying that he&#8217;d spoken to the victims — who range in age from 14 to 61 — and that he believes the suspects can be found with some help from the local residents.</p>
<p>&#8220;If we get help from the community, it’ll be hopefully sooner than later. There’s kids out there that probably know more than all of us standing here,&#8221; he said.</p>
<p>Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz told reporters that all of the victims in Saturday&#8217;s shooting were expected to survive, although two remain critical according to a <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/06/06/us-news/multiple-people-rushed-to-hospital-after-shots-fired-at-family-friendly-ohio-festival/">report</a> from The New York Post.</p>
<p>Festival organizers responded to the tragic turn of events in a Facebook post, ultimately announcing that the remainder of the festivities scheduled for Sunday, June 7, would be canceled.</p>
<p>&#8220;Too often we turn on the news and learn of a celebration somewhere that turns into a tragedy. Now, that news comes from our own neighborhood. We are heartbroken about those that were injured at the Old West End Festival. Many people want to know how we proceed from such a dark place,&#8221; the post read. &#8220;After discussion with festival organizers, law enforcement and the City of Toledo, we feel that it would not be compassionate, responsible or possible to continue festival. Therefore, all festival events for Sunday June 7th are cancelled.&#8221;</p>

<p>Murphy claimed during a Friday evening appearance with Maher that when CBS News axed longtime &#8220;60 Minutes&#8221; anchor Scott Pelley, it was just further proof that the Trump administration was pushing to implement a &#8220;censorship state&#8221; and take full control of the media.</p>

<p>&#8220;Well, it’s kind of what you said,&#8221; Maher pointed out.</p>
<p>&#8220;But he is clearly intent on installing people who will tell his story and will keep his critics off the air,&#8221; Murphy claimed.</p>
<p>&#8220;But let me ask you this question. I watch &#8217;60 Minutes&#8217; every week. I have since I was a kid,&#8221; Maher continued to press, arguing that the media was making a story out of nothing. &#8220;If I didn’t hear all the buzz in the media … would I ever notice that it was any different? I don’t think I would.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;Part of what the allegation is, is that they are killing stories that would be embarrassing for the president,&#8221; Murphy insisted, adding, &#8220;So it’s hard to know what you’re missing in a censorship environment.&#8221;</p>
<p>Maher noted that he was still seeing stories that weren&#8217;t exactly flattering to Trump, suggesting that if the goal was to censor unfavorable stories, the network had thus far not been terribly successful in doing so.</p>
<p>&#8220;I’ve seen ones that are not very favorable to the president,&#8221; he said, repeating, &#8220;I don’t know if I would have noticed anything different if I hadn’t been reading about it &#8230; Companies change hands all the time … ‘Oh my God. 60 Minutes has a new cast!’ So does &#8216;Saturday Night Live.'&#8221;</p>
<p>Over laughter from the audience, Maher added, &#8220;I’m not going to [fret] until I see a smoking gun.&#8221;</p>

<p>Enten went on to reveal why even some Democrats who might personally like the former president would still prefer that he remained out of the public eye: &#8220;He is an anchor to the Democratic Party and potentially their fortunes in the 2026 midterm elections.&#8221;</p>
<p>Berman asked how Biden compared to other former presidents — particularly Democrats — and the news did not get any better: former Presidents Barack Obama (+31), Bill Clinton (-3), and Jimmy Carter (+22) all fared much better than Biden.</p>
<p>The former first lady was in the same proverbial boat as her husband, Enten added.</p>

<p>An adviser to embattled Maine Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner reportedly wanted to use photos of his own penis in a puberty book for boys as young as 10 years old.</p>
<p>Morris Katz, who has also worked for New York City&#8217;s Democratic socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani, published the 112-page book titled &#8220;Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Puberty ― and Shouldn’t Be Googling: For Curious Boys&#8221; in 2020.</p>
<p>As <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/06/04/us-news/mamdani-guru-wanted-to-use-images-of-his-penis-in-creepy-puberty-guide-for-10-year-olds/">the New York Post</a> reported, Katz made the revelation in a footnote below a series of images using snakes and butterflies, among other things, to depict physical changes to male genitalia during puberty: &#8220;At first, we were going to use images of my penis to get this point across but the publisher said it was inappropriate so here we are, with some fruit and animal metaphors.&#8221;</p>
<p>Billed as a &#8220;puberty book written by the cool older brother,&#8221; the Amazon description says that it provides &#8220;facts about developmental changes to tween and teen boys&#8217; bodies and brains are spelled out in fun, familiar, boy-speak and illustrated in edgy graphic novel format.&#8221;</p>
<p>The Platner fixer made headlines earlier in the week when the Bangor Daily News first reported that he&#8217;d been <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/platner-campaign-threatened-female-staffer-who-exposed-sexual-deviancy">behind threats</a> aimed at a former staffer who contributed to reports exposing Platner&#8217;s explicit text messages sent to multiple women while he was married.</p>
<p>The message, sent through a third party, was directed at former state Rep. Genevieve McDonald, a Democrat, over her cooperation with The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal.</p>
<p>&#8220;Just want to be clear on where we are right now,” he wrote, adding that Katz warned her that she would face a smear campaign if she assisted with the story. “If the story goes in its current iteration we’ll communicate directly on the record, and by name, that Genevieve violated the personal trust of Amy and Graham and shared explicit falsehoods to sabotage the campaign.&#8221;</p>
<p>He also appeared to lash out at her in an X post, although he did not mention her by name, once the story went public: &#8220;It’s no one’s f*cking business what happened in Graham &amp; Amy’s marriage before he was ever a candidate for office. There should be no place in our politics for incompetent, opportunistic operatives who violate privacy, betray trust, and prioritize vengeance over decency.&#8221;</p>

<p>Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) made it clear on Thursday that he would not be surprised to see more damaging information come out about Maine&#8217;s Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner.</p>
<p>Fetterman, when asked whether he was &#8220;concerned&#8221; that Platner might be at the center of additional scandals, pointed out the fact that Platner — who assured Senate Democrats earlier in the week that there would be no additional allegations against him — had been dishonest about some of what had already been revealed.</p>

<p>Platner, who went by the name &#8220;P-Hustle&#8221; on Reddit, has been the center of several scandals, ranging from his now-covered Nazi-inspired tattoo to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/platner-promises-dem-senators-there-will-be-no-new-accusations" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sexually explicit</a> text messages sent to several women while he was married. He has also faced backlash for a number of comments he posted on Reddit — some of which were vulgar and at least one in which he mocked and derided a wounded combat veteran and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/didnt-deserve-to-live-leftist-candidate-appears-to-mock-wounded-soldier-in-resurfaced-post">Purple Heart recipient</a>.</p>
<p>The Maine Democrat, who was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/i-am-still-on-the-ballot-janet-mills-reappears-as-platner-stumbles">leading</a> Gov. Janet Mills (D-ME) in the primary before she suspended her campaign, is set to face off against incumbent Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) in November.</p>

<p>A New Jersey Democrat declared that she had to stop going to church because she &#8220;couldn&#8217;t stand&#8221; being around so many people who had voted for President Donald Trump.</p>
<p>Rebecca Bennett, the Democratic nominee to represent New Jersey&#8217;s Seventh Congressional District in the U.S. House, told a supporter about her decision to leave the church at a campaign event in February. Audio of their conversation was obtained and published Wednesday by <a href="https://freebeacon.com/elections/new-jersey-dem-running-in-house-district-trump-carried-said-she-stopped-going-to-church-because-she-could-not-stand-being-around-people-who-voted-for-trump-audio-shows/">The Washington Free Beacon</a>.</p>

<p>The audio begins with Bennett thanking her supporters for coming out and offering to take some of their questions. The first question comes from a woman who identifies herself as &#8220;a former progressive Dem, now a moderate&#8221; who is happy to hear Bennett describe herself as a &#8220;patriot&#8221; but concerned that others might hear that word and think she leans to the Right.</p>
<p>&#8220;I loved hearing you say that you&#8217;re a patriot, but what are you going to do about that being a right-coded way of presenting yourself?&#8221; the woman asked.</p>
<p>&#8220;I will say I use that word intentionally, and the reason that I do it is because, so, I grew up in the Presbyterian Church, and after Trump got elected, I stopped going to church for the first time in my life, because I was like, &#8216;I cannot sit in this room of people,'&#8221; Bennett, a former Navy pilot, explained. &#8220;At the time, I was stationed somewhere that was pretty conservative. I was still in the military at the time. I was like, &#8216;I cannot sit in this church full of people who voted for Trump.'&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;And then, ultimately, I decided they do not get to decide what Christianity looks like, and to me, it&#8217;s the same thing about [how] they do not get to decide what patriotism is,&#8221; she adds. &#8220;You do not get to wrap yourself in the flag while you are literally murdering Americans in broad daylight.&#8221;</p>

<p>Former reality star Spencer Pratt (MTV&#8217;s &#8220;The Hills&#8221;) raised eyebrows when he threw his hat in the ring to run for mayor of Los Angeles — but soon, Pratt may not be the only one.</p>
<p>Mike &#8220;The Situation&#8221; Sorrentino, who popularized the errands trifecta known as &#8220;GTL&#8221; (Gym, Tan, Laundry) on MTV&#8217;s &#8220;Jersey Shore,&#8221; said recently that he was thinking about a future run for governor in the Garden State.</p>
<p>Sorrentino has had his share of ups and downs since finding fame on the popular reality show, but has since parlayed his own previous struggles with addiction into a drug and alcohol rehab center called Archangels. At a recent launch party for VUE magazine in Wall Township, the former MTV star said that he planned to move into politics after he&#8217;d opened an Archangels Center in each of the 50 states.</p>

<p>He did not immediately give a party affiliation — but did offer a major hint in the form of a policy he might support: &#8220;I can’t announce it yet but I think the residents of New Jersey would like no property tax.&#8221;</p>
<p>New Jersey currently has the highest median property tax in the United States — meaning that residents pay more to own property in the Garden State than they would anywhere else in the country. Illinois ranks second, and Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Vermont round out the top five.</p>
<p>Sorrentino may be preparing to follow Pratt&#8217;s road map and capitalize on the failures of previous leadership — which, in New Jersey, might simply mean finding a way to provide meaningful relief from the high property tax rates.</p>
<p>Pratt used that strategy to great effect, pressing incumbent Mayor Karen Bass on her handling of the deadly Palisades fire (in which Pratt lost his own home as well as his parent&#8217;s home) and the homelessness crisis and rampant drug use in Los Angeles. With 62% of the votes counted as of Thursday afternoon, Pratt is holding steady at second place in California&#8217;s jungle primary. If he remains in second place, he will head into a November runoff against Bass, who has already secured the top spot in the primary.</p>
