Senior staff members for Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA), both in his congressional office and at his gubernatorial campaign office, quit en masse on Saturday as several former staffers accused him of sexual misconduct and even rape.
The senior staffers from both the campaign team and Swalwell&#8217;s congressional team released a joint statement saying that they were standing with the former staffer who accused the congressman of rape, and that they intended to stand for any other women who had come forward as well.

The staffers acknowledged that only senior staff members were represented, and noted that some junior staffers might not have the financial freedom to simply walk away from the job — and asked the public not to judge them too harshly if that were the case.
&#8220;Any decision of staff members to remain in their roles in the interim should not be viewed as support for Eric Swalwell,&#8221; they wrote.
&#8220;We, more than [Swalwell], understand that we have obligations to the people we lead and to the constituents of California&#8217;s 14th Congressional District. Those of us that remain on staff do so for the sole purpose of ensuring that as many of those obligations are fulfilled as possible,&#8221; they concluded.
Swalwell released a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/swalwell-wont-drop-out-despite-his-metoo-era-kavanaugh-demand">video statement</a> early on Saturday fighting back against the allegations he said were &#8220;flat false.&#8221; Just hours later, however, a video began circulating that showed the California congressman forcibly kissing a woman who was reportedly a sex worker. Since the first accusations were made public on Friday, a number of prominent lawmakers have withdrawn their support for Swalwell ahead of the gubernatorial primary — and several have called on him to withdraw from the race entirely.

&#8220;I&#8217;ll be up front,&#8221; Platner said, adding that he&#8217;d never blamed his past behavior solely on the fact that he&#8217;d been diagnosed with PTSD.
&#8220;When I left the military, I came out of a hyper-masculine, hyper-violent place. I did four tours in the infantry. We have a crude sense of humor in the infantry. We certainly have a, I would say, narrow view of a lot of topics, and that colored my opinions and my beliefs,&#8221; Platner continued.
He went on to claim that it wasn&#8217;t until he got out of the military and spent time with different people that his thoughts and opinions began to change over time.
Platner went on to say that he didn&#8217;t believe his past opinions were related to his combat service necessarily, but said that &#8220;much of it was because of the culture I had come out of, and over the years in between, I&#8217;ve met a lot more people, had a lot more experiences, learned a lot more about the world, and my opinions have changed with it.&#8221;
Platner is currently polling well ahead of Governor Janet Mills (D-ME). Whoever wins the primary will face incumbent Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) in November&#8217;s general election.

CNN&#8217;s Michael Smerconish laid waste to calls for the 25th Amendment to be invoked against President Donald Trump — based on claims that President Donald Trump was erratic and out of control — saying that the &#8220;madness&#8221; was simply part of his process.
Smerconish argued that if Trump were truly a candidate for removal via the 25th Amendment — reserved for a president who is incapacitated or rendered incapable of doing his job — there would be signs that permeated the rest of his life outside his bombastic social media posts.

&#8220;A crazy person doesn&#8217;t live in the White House. A person who plays a crazy person a lot on TV lives there,&#8221; Smerconish began, attributing the statement to comedian and HBO host Bill Maher.
The CNN host went on to lay out some of the president&#8217;s recent social media posts directed at Iran — specifically his demand that they &#8220;open the f*ckin&#8217; strait&#8221; and his later prediction stating &#8220;a whole civilization will die tonight&#8221; — which Democrats had cited as evidence that Trump was too erratic to be president. They quickly ramped up calls to either invoke the 25th Amendment against him or impeach him for a third time.
But as Smerconish then explained, the deliberative and lengthy process by which Trump came to the decision to launch Operation Epic Fury — detailed in a recent New York Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2026/04/07/us/politics/trump-iran-war.html">report</a> — was anything but erratic. The decision was reached only after days of meetings, both with the Israelis and without them, that took into account potential strategies and logistics.
&#8220;In contrast to those offensive and intemperate Truth Social posts, which were intended for Tehran, this window into pre-war decision making was for the Americans,&#8221; he said. &#8220;It shows airing of competing views, some open to dissent, reliance on legal counsel, and a deliberative process — not the impulsivity with which Trump is so often associated. There&#8217;s nothing in the Times&#8217; behind-closed-doors account of an unstable Trump at the same time that he was playing the madman card in public.&#8221;

&#8220;These allegations of sexual assault are flat false, they&#8217;re absolutely false,&#8221; he added. &#8220;They did not happen. They have never happened. And I will fight them with everything that I have. They also come on the eve of an election where I have been the frontrunner candidate for governor in California.&#8221;
&#8220;I do not suggest to you in any way that I am perfect or that I&#8217;m a saint. I have certainly made mistakes in judgment in my past,&#8221; Swalwell continued. &#8220;But those mistakes are between me and my wife. And to her, I apologize deeply for putting her in this position. I also apologize to you if in any way you have doubted your support for me. But I think you know who I am.&#8221;
Swalwell went on to tout his 20-year record of serving the public from the City Council to the U.S. House of Representatives, as well as his record as a prosecutor defending victims of sexual assault.
&#8220;That&#8217;s who I am and have always been. This weekend, I&#8217;m going to spend time with my family and friends, and I appreciate those who have reached out to me to show support,&#8221; he concluded. &#8220;I look forward to updating you very soon.&#8221;
Swalwell&#8217;s response comes in the wake of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/three-more-women-level-sexual-misconduct-accusations-against-eric-swalwell">several accusations</a> — including one from a former staffer who said he raped her — of inappropriate sexually-charged behavior and sexual assault.
But the California congressman, who alleges that the timing and anonymity of the accusations make them suspect, sang a very different tune when similar 11th-hour accusations were leveled against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh ahead of his confirmation hearings.
On September 18, 2018, <a href="https://x.com/RepSwalwell/status/1042154855303983106">Swalwell</a> joined with a number of House Democrats in calling for a postponement of the Senate&#8217;s confirmation vote, demanding an investigation and including the #MeToo era &#8220;believe women&#8221; tagline: &#8220;I joined 109 of my House colleagues in urging the Senate to #PostponeTheVote on #Kavanaugh, so America can have a thorough investigation of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford’s story. #BelieveWomen.&#8221;
Swalwell also criticized Republicans who pointed out the fact that Democrats — namely the late Senator <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/report-feinstein-has-document-attacking-kavanaugh-hank-berrien">Dianne Feinstein</a> — had reportedly been aware of the accusations against Kavanaugh for some time and had intentionally withheld them until they could be used to derail his confirmation.
&#8220;The #Kavanaugh defenders are trying to stand on the process/timing of the allegation and wish to ignore its substance. Would they prefer that she never had come forward? Is that what they’re really suggesting?&#8221; he posted on September 17, 2018.
&#8220;A lot of GOP senators are unfairly holding #Kavanaugh victims to criminal law standards for their accounts. If that’s the case they should know this jury instruction: &#8216;The testimony of a SINGLE witness can prove any fact,'&#8221; Swalwell <a href="https://x.com/RepSwalwell/status/1044273530865635328">posted</a> a week later.
Even as Swalwell denies the claims against him, his colleagues have already begun to jump ship. Senator Adam Schiff (D-CA) was among those who withdrew endorsements ahead of the primary election.
&#8220;I have read the San Francisco Chronicle’s account and I am deeply distressed by its allegations. This woman was brave to come forward, and we should take her story seriously. I am withdrawing my endorsement immediately, and believe that he should withdraw from the race,&#8221; <a href="https://x.com/AdamSchiff/status/2042731289430667538">Schiff said</a>.

Meta has begun scrubbing ads offering legal help for damages related to social media addiction and the associated harmful behaviors.
According to a <a href="https://www.axios.com/2026/04/09/meta-social-media-addiction-ads">report</a> from Axios on Thursday, Meta has begun pulling ads — from both Facebook and Instagram — that provide users with information about getting legal advice or taking legal action against social media platforms.
Axios quoted an example of one of the ads that was pulled: &#8220;Anxiety. Depression. Withdrawal. Self-harm. These aren&#8217;t just teenage phases — they&#8217;re symptoms linked to social media addiction in children. Platforms knew this and kept targeting kids anyway.&#8221;
Meta has acknowledged that some ads are being removed from the social media platforms, saying that the law firms placing such ads should not be allowed to benefit from the use of Meta&#8217;s platforms while claiming at the same time that Meta was responsible for creating addicts and causing mental health problems.
&#8220;We&#8217;re actively defending ourselves against these lawsuits and are removing ads that attempt to recruit plaintiffs for them. We will not allow trial lawyers to profit from our platforms while simultaneously claiming they are harmful,&#8221; a Meta spokesperson told the outlet.
The report comes just two weeks after a California jury found that both <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/verdict-reached-in-landmark-social-media-media-addiction-trial">Meta</a> and YouTube had contributed to a number of mental health problems — including addiction and related behavior — in a landmark case before the California Superior Court.
A Meta spokesperson protested the verdict, saying at the time, &#8220;We respectfully disagree with the verdict and will appeal. We work hard to keep people safe on our platforms and are clear about the challenges of identifying and removing bad actors or harmful content. We will continue to defend ourselves vigorously, and we remain confident in our record of protecting teens online.&#8221;
As The Daily Wire previously reported, social media platforms — including Meta and YouTube — have often touted online safety features in recent years, such as Instagram’s “Teen Accounts” and YouTube “Kids,” which are meant to create safer and more controlled experiences for children. Critics argue that kids — sometimes with willing parents or other adults helping them — are able to bypass those controls and gain access to the full platforms anyway.

Embattled former first son Hunter Biden raised eyebrows on Thursday when he said he&#8217;d be &#8220;open&#8221; to a &#8220;cage match&#8221; with two of President Donald Trump&#8217;s sons, Eric and Donald Trump Jr.

The report alleged that Biden, who has been living abroad, is deep in debt and struggling to pay his attorneys.
And if Hunter Biden&#8217;s posturing sounds familiar, it should: his father, former President Joe Biden, once made a similar remark about confronting President Trump.
During a 2018 speech, <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2018/03/21/politics/joe-biden-donald-trump">Biden</a> famously told a room full of College Democrats at the University of Miami, &#8220;They asked me would I like to debate this gentleman, and I said no. Twice-failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton delivered an <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2026/04/09/opinion/iran-war-families-affordability-trump.html">op-ed</a> for The New York Times on Thursday, offering her advice to Democrats on how to win against &#8220;brain-dead&#8221; Republicans in the future.
Clinton, who served as Secretary of State after losing the 2012 Democratic primary to former President Barack Obama, criticized Republicans generally — and President Donald Trump specifically — for requesting an increase to the military budget, complaining that the administration was ignoring working families to do so.
Questioning those concerned with America&#8217;s falling birth rate — which is well below the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/first-came-overpopulation-panic-then-came-the-birth-collapse">replacement rate</a> and predicts an imminent population drop-off — she added, &#8220;Their answer is too often nostalgia and misogyny: If we could turn back the clock to a time when women didn’t work (and knew their place), the economy would thrive and families would flourish. This is substantively and politically brain-dead.&#8221;
Clinton then proceeded to tick off a list of priorities she believed Democrats should focus on if they wanted to succeed in the future — but most of her proposed solutions were either already well-entrenched in the Democratic Party&#8217;s platform or had already been tried, with varying degrees of success or failure, by one or both parties.
One such solution, according to Clinton, was an increase in child tax credits — specifically refundable tax credits. The IRS describes a refundable tax credit as &#8220;a credit you can get as a refund even if you don&#8217;t owe any tax.&#8221; The end result of a refundable child tax credit would be a redistribution of wealth based on number of dependents — and in past years, this has been accomplished through the Earned Income Credit.
Another solution — one that has already been embraced by both parties to some degree — is paid family leave. Clinton also focused on early education, childcare, and health care — all of which have been key elements of her party&#8217;s platform for years, if not decades. The key driver in all of those suggestions was her insistence that those programs be delivered at the national level rather than by individual employers looking for a competitive advantage or even by more local jurisdictions where the specific needs of the people in that area could be addressed.
Her final suggestion was a national baseline for artificial intelligence safeguards — again, something that both parties and the <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/12/eliminating-state-law-obstruction-of-national-artificial-intelligence-policy/">White House</a> have expressed an interest in exploring.

Principal Kirk Moore leapt into action when an armed former student walked into his school on Tuesday and opened fire, sustaining a bullet wound to the leg as he worked to disarm and then restrain him.
Moore, principal of Pauls Valley High School in Oklahoma, was the only person injured when former student Victor Hawkins, 20, entered the school on Tuesday afternoon armed with two semi-automatic handguns and immediately told everyone to &#8220;get on the ground.&#8221;
According to local NBC affiliate <a href="https://kfor.com/news/local/affidavit-pauls-valley-school-shooting-suspect-inspired-by-columbine-tried-to-shoot-multiple-students-before-shooting-principal/">KFOR</a>, Hawkins pointed a gun at a student in the entryway and pulled the trigger, but his firearm malfunctioned and he ducked behind a nearby vending machine in order to clear it. When he stepped out again, he fired at another student — but he missed, and the student put his hands in the air and asked him not to shoot again.
Hawkins, according to the report, then lowered his gun and told both students to get out — and they ran for the exit.
Upon hearing the commotion and the gunfire, Principal Moore came out of his office — and Hawkins fired again. Moore confronted the shooter directly and wrestled the firearm away, but took a bullet to the leg in the process. He and his assistant principal restrained Hawkins by lying on top of him, and were able to keep him restrained until law enforcement arrived.
Moore was flown to Oklahoma University Health in Oklahoma City, where he was treated for a gunshot wound to his leg and is expected to make a full recovery.
Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) investigators interviewed the suspect, who said that his intent had been to shoot students, members of the faculty, and eventually himself. The firearms — which he had stolen from a closet — and the truck he had driven to the school belonged to his father.
In the interview, Hawkins also stated that he had intended to kill Principal Moore specifically, and that he&#8217;d &#8220;wanted to conduct his own school shooting like the Columbine shooters did.&#8221;
Hawkins was arrested and <a href="https://www.koco.com/article/victor-hawkins-pauls-valley-high-school-shooting-columbine-court/70966929">charged</a> with shooting with intent to kill, two counts of pointing a firearm and two counts of unlawful carry. He was booked at the Garvin County Jail, where he is being held on $1 million bond.
&#8220;Principal Moore acted bravely to protect students’ lives,” Gov. Kevin Stitt (R-OK) said. &#8220;Sarah and I are praying for his quick recovery. I’m thankful for the swift response from law enforcement and school staff, and I’m grateful no students were harmed.&#8221;

With the 2026 midterm elections fast approaching, Democrats have been scrambling to find new ways to connect with voters — particularly young men, a demographic with which the party struggled mightily in 2024 — and thus far, they appear to have settled on a popular streamer who claimed that the United States &#8220;deserved&#8221; 9/11.
<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/sad-michigan-muslims-drove-dem-senate-hopeful-to-silence-on-khamenei">Hasan Piker</a>, who boasts over four million followers between YouTube and Twitch, has hosted Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Ro Khanna (D-CA), Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT), and Mayor Zohran Mamdani (D-NYC), and endorsed Senator Jon Ossoff (D-GA) — and is set to campaign with Democratic Michigan Senatorial hopeful Abdul El-Sayed.
Not all Democrats are willing to stretch the party&#8217;s tent quite that far, however, and have warned others not to welcome Piker too warmly.
Rep. Haley Stevens (D-MI), who is also vying for the Democratic Senate nomination, has accused El-Sayed of intentionally bringing in someone with a reputation for spreading &#8220;antisemitic rhetoric.&#8221;
El-Sayed defended his choice, saying, &#8220;If we want to have a conversation where we’re actually bringing people together about the things that we need and deserve, we’re gonna have to go to unlikely and uncommon places.&#8221;
He also defended his association with Piker — who said the sexual violence and rapes that occurred during the October 7 terrorist attack did not change his opinion that Hamas was &#8220;1,000 times better than Israel&#8221; — during a recent appearance on Fox News.
&#8220;America&#8217;s Newsroom&#8221; anchor Bill Hemmer asked El-Sayed, &#8220;With regard to October 7th, he said that what Hamas did is the lesser of two evils. Why saddle up with that?&#8221;
El-Sayed claimed that his interested in appearing with Piker was no different than his interest in appearing on Fox News, and was nothing more than an attempt to reach more potential voters.

The Bulwark&#8217;s Tim Miller and Sarah Longwell <a href="https://www.thebulwark.com/p/is-hasan-piker-toxic-or-gettable">debated</a> whether or not the Democratic Party would be wise to embrace Piker or reject him. Miller argued that although he didn&#8217;t agree with Piker&#8217;s politics, he thought that Democrats would be wise to appear on his show — and then said that if the party establishment were to shun him entirely, they would only make him more powerful.
Longwell laid out a number of the problematic things Piker had said, arguing that he was &#8220;all the toxic things&#8221; and his &#8220;worldview&#8221; was entirely incompatible with anything any Democrat in America claims to stand for.

President Donald Trump gave the Iranian regime a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/live-updates-iranian-protests-intensify-as-citizens-demand-end-to-ayatollah-rule">deadline</a> of 8 p.m. on Tuesday to reach a deal with the United States and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and a number of Democrats have spent the hours leading up to that deadline warning American service members to be wary of — or disregard — any potentially &#8220;illegal&#8221; orders.
Responding to Trump&#8217;s deadline — and his warning that &#8220;a whole civilization will die tonight&#8221; — Democrats quickly lined up to claim that the president was either not in full possession of his mental faculties or about to issue illegal orders to the United States military, if not both.
&#8220;This is a threat of genocide and merits removal from office. The President’s mental faculties are collapsing and cannot be trusted,&#8221; Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez <a href="https://x.com/AOC/status/2041563794787193194">declared</a>. &#8220;To every individual in the President’s chain of command: You have a duty to refuse illegal orders. That includes carrying out this threat.&#8221;
Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA) addressed his <a href="https://x.com/tedlieu/status/2041277990903091695">warning</a> to the Joint Chiefs of Staff, saying, &#8220;The UCMJ and federal law prohibit war crimes. Striking civilian infrastructure that causes disproportionate civilian harm constitutes war crimes. You will disobey those illegal orders. If you commit war crimes, the next Administration will prosecute you.&#8221;
&#8220;These are not the words of a sane person,&#8221; Rep. Jason Crow (D-CO) <a href="https://x.com/RepJasonCrow/status/2041516423906824681">added</a>. &#8220;Calling for the elimination of a civilization is a war crime. As I’ve repeatedly said, our military must only follow lawful orders. Every American of good conscience must repudiate this.&#8221;
Senator Mark Kelly (D-AZ) ignored the possibility that a bridge or power plant might be considered a military target if it was part of the necessary infrastructure sustaining and supplying the Iranian forces, and instead suggested that any attack on such infrastructure would necessarily be an attack on civilian populations.
&#8220;Threatening to target power plants and other non-military targets is not strength. If those words become orders to destroy civilian infrastructure with no valid military purpose, it’s hard to see how they would not violate the laws of armed conflict. America leads best with strength, discipline, and professionalism. Illegal orders to make civilians suffer would be a black mark on our military and our country,&#8221; <a href="https://x.com/SenMarkKelly/status/2041333810269151246">Kelly said</a>.
Democrats began warning American troops that &#8220;illegal&#8221; orders were a possibility — and were perhaps even to be expected — from President Donald Trump&#8217;s administration months earlier, when &#8220;<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/hegseths-war-department-escalates-review-of-mark-kelly-over-seditious-six-video">The Seditious Six</a>&#8221; published a <a href="https://x.com/SenatorSlotkin/status/1990774492356902948">video</a> in response to a number of precision strikes on narco-terrorists. Led by Senators Kelly and Elissa Slotkin (D-MI), the group called on members of the military to refuse &#8220;illegal&#8221; or &#8220;unlawful&#8221; orders while heavily insinuating that if Trump or War Secretary Pete Hegseth had not already given such orders, they were likely to do so.
Slotkin doubled down on Tuesday, <a href="https://x.com/SenatorSlotkin/status/2041559132755653104">posting</a>, &#8220;I know that our service members up and down the chain of command know their duty and the law to refuse illegal orders. Even as the Commander-in-Chief tells the world otherwise. It’s moments like these that are why we made the video to service members last year. And I hope and believe our troops — especially those in command — will have the moral clarity to push back if they are given clearly illegal orders.&#8221;

Eissa Hashemi has never denounced his mother — a spokesperson for the Iranian regime&#8217;s propaganda machine — but still he&#8217;s living large in Los Angeles, lecturing American students in his field: psychology.
<a href="https://nypost.com/2026/04/06/us-news/son-of-irans-twisted-pr-chief-found-living-life-of-luxury-in-la-and-hes-teaching-superrich-california-kids/?utm_campaign=capost&amp;utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_medium=social">Hashemi</a>, 43, has been living in the United States since 2010 and is an adjunct associate professor at The Chicago School in Los Angeles, the New York Post reported — but has recently faced criticism and calls for deportation as critics say that he has never publicly condemned his mother&#8217;s role in the oppressive Iranian revolutionary government.
Hashemi is the son of former Iranian Vice President for Women and Family Affairs <a href="https://pulitzercenter.org/stories/ex-spokeswoman-hostage-takers-says-us-misreads-iran">Masoumeh Ebtekar</a> — better known as &#8220;Screaming Mary&#8221; to Americans who were alive when militants attacked the United States Embassy in Tehran in 1979.
Ebtekar was a 19-year-old college student when she joined the revolutionaries in storming the embassy — and because she herself had been raised in Philadelphia, she quickly became their spokesperson when their embassy raid escalated to a hostage crisis that went on for more than a year.
She was the voice heard around the world after violent revolutionaries took 52 American hostages — and proceeded to hold them for 444 days — giving interviews in English and spinning the regime&#8217;s propaganda throughout. She often toured the embassy where the hostages were being held, pushing them to give more positive comments about their time in captivity.
She has, in the time since, claimed that the United States is to blame for diplomatic rifts between Washington and Tehran — and has defended her own role in the revolution.
Hashemi, for his part, is just one of a number of Iranians who were born into political prominence in the regime, but who have since chosen to live in the United States. He is also one of several children of the regime who have risen to prominent positions in academia, and have gone on to educate American children.
Several of those who have been connected to regime officials have already had their <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/family-members-of-slain-iranian-general-arrested-u-s-legal-status-revoked">legal status</a> in the United States revoked — and a number have already begun petitioning for Hashemi to receive similar treatment. Several protests calling for just that took place in January outside The Chicago School and other facilities with which he has been associated.
