&#8220;Listen, my children, and you shall hear of the midnight ride of &#8230;&#8221; Caesar Rodney?
July 1776. Nearly 15 months after Paul Revere&#8217;s famous ride — forever immortalized in the poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow — trouble was brewing as the Continental Congress met in Philadelphia to discuss the question on everyone&#8217;s minds: will the 13 American colonies declare independence from England?
Virginia Delegate Richard Henry Lee put forth the proposition, stating that &#8220;these united colonies are, and of right ought to be free and independent states.&#8221;
A vote on the matter was set for July 2.
Delaware Delegate Caesar Rodney was at home in Dover, battling cancer and asthma and attending to his duties as an officer in the Delaware State Militia while his state&#8217;s two remaining delegates — Thomas McKean and George Read — were in Philadelphia. But when it came time to vote for independence, McKean and Read were at odds: McKean favored independence, while Read did not — and it quickly became apparent that Delaware would be the deciding vote.
A desperate McKean sent word to Rodney, a strong proponent for independence, who got the message on July 1 — and he acted without hesitation.
Meanwhile, a preliminary vote was taken on July 1 in Philadelphia. Nine colonies voted for independence. Two colonies — Pennsylvania and South Carolina — opposed. Delaware was deadlocked, and New York abstained because the delegates in Philadelphia were waiting for word from their local governments.
Rodney rode for 18 hours straight, pausing only to change horses, covering the 80 miles from Dover to Philadelphia — despite oppressive heat, dangerous storms, and his own failing health — bursting into the Pennsylvania State House (now known simply as Independence Hall) still wearing his mud-caked clothing and riding spurs.
&#8220;As I believe the voice of my constituents and all sensible and honest men is in favor of independence, and as my own judgment concurs with them, I give my vote for independence,&#8221; he <a href="https://trumpwhitehouse.archives.gov/presidential-actions/proclamation-birthday-founding-father-caesar-rodney/">declared</a>.
Caesar Rodney&#8217;s vote broke the Delaware deadlock, and on July 2, 1776, the majority voted for independence. Pennsylvania and South Carolina voted with the majority, making the vote 12-0 with New York still abstaining. New York continued to abstain — although the delegates did not raise any objections — when they voted for the text of the Declaration of Independence on July 4.
On July 9, 1776, New York&#8217;s provincial congress voted to officially adopt the Declaration of Independence, finally making the colonies unanimous in their position.
Unanimity was of the utmost importance to the Continental Congress, largely because they believed dissent would be seen by the British as a lack of resolve and would likely be exploited as the war continued.
The consequences of Rodney&#8217;s ride — and the subsequent vote — were immediate: British loyalists in Delaware ensured that he was not reelected to either the state legislature or the Continental Congress. He did return to politics, however, and was elected to serve as the President of Delaware from 1778-1781. He also briefly served as Speaker of the Delaware Senate before his death in 1784.
Rodney&#8217;s ride seems obvious fodder for a Hollywood film — or at the very least, an epic poem — so why is it that so many in America have never heard of him?
Perhaps it&#8217;s because Rodney himself often hid from the public eye. His skin cancer, diagnosed several years prior to the war — along with surgery to remove a tumor from his nose — had left his face so severely disfigured that he often wore a green silk veil to hide it.
Or maybe it&#8217;s just that Paul Revere &#8220;<a href="https://philstarlife.com/news-and-views/699415-outlander-freedom-whisky?page=4">had a better publicist</a>&#8221; in Longfellow, as was noted in an episode of &#8220;Outlander&#8221; (Season 3, Episode 5). Revere, despite being immortalized in the famous poem, did not actually complete the &#8220;midnight ride&#8221; for which he is known. He set off for Lexington and Concord with William Dawes, and both were captured by the British before they could reach their destination. Dr. Samuel Prescott was the patriot rider who ultimately reached Concord in time to sound the alarm.
Rodney was not completely forgotten, however: the image of him on horseback appears on the Delaware quarters minted in 1999.
His name came up again in 2020, when Black Lives Matter protesters targeted statues of him — among many others — because he was a slave owner. A bronze statue of Rodney was taken down from its perch in Wilmington, Delaware, amid the protests that took place that summer.
In April, just ahead of the America 250 celebrations, the famed statue of Caesar Rodney was given a place in Washington, D.C.&#8217;s Freedom Plaza.

President Donald Trump reacted on Tuesday to the Supreme Court&#8217;s decision on birthright citizenship and congratulated Chinese President Xi Jinping on a ruling that he said would ultimately benefit other nations more than the United States.
&#8220;I would like to congratulate President Xi, and the Great Country of China, on their massive Birthright Citizenship WIN!&#8221; Trump declared via his Truth Social platform.
The court&#8217;s decision protects, for now, the practice of &#8220;birth tourism,&#8221; which is used by many wealthy Chinese nationals who travel to the United States to give birth to their children.
In an <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/116839981384247632">earlier post</a>, the president&#8217;s first reaction to the decision was slightly more subdued as he called on Congress to take legislative action on birthright citizenship.
&#8220;The Supreme Court upheld Birthright Citizenship, which is too bad for our Country, but we can easily make it up in Congress through Legislation, with the support of the President, that has now been determined during this process,&#8221; Trump said. &#8220;No long and unwieldy Constitutional Amendment is necessary! Congress should start TODAY to work on ending expensive and unfair to our Country, Birthright Citizenship. They will have my Complete and Total Support!&#8221;
The <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/supreme-court-rules-against-trump-in-birthright-citizenship-case">high court</a>, in an opinion written by Chief Justice John Roberts, held that children born in the United States — regardless of their parentage — were American citizens under the 14th Amendment.
&#8220;Citizenship, then and now, was the right to have rights — to freely participate in our political community. The Framers of the Fourteenth Amendment extended that promise to ‘every free-born person in this land,'&#8221; Roberts wrote, adding, &#8220;We keep that promise today.&#8221;
In a <a href="https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/25pdf/25-365_4hdj.pdf">separate opinion</a>, partly concurring and partly dissenting, Justice Brett Kavanaugh wrote that he disagreed with the majority in holding that Trump&#8217;s executive order banning birthright citizenship ran afoul of the 14th Amendment. Instead, he argued that the order was at odds with current federal statutes, meaning that if Congress were to take legislative action, that could change.
In a scathing dissent, conservative Justice Clarence Thomas wrote, “The court today takes the extraordinary step of holding facially unconstitutional the President’s Order excluding from citizenship the children of foreign temporary visitors and illegal aliens. In doing so, the court adds to the sad history of the Fourteenth Amendment, which was designed and understood to secure equal rights for the freed blacks but has instead been repurposed for political projects that the Reconstruction Congress did not support.”

Actress Daveigh Chase, who died in mid-June at the age of 35, died of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) and prolonged drug abuse.
Chase, best known as the voice of Lilo in Disney&#8217;s 2002 smash animated feature &#8220;Lilo &amp; Stitch,&#8221; died in a Los Angeles hospital, and according to a medical examiner&#8217;s report reviewed by E! News, the manner of her death was listed as &#8220;natural,&#8221; and the cause of death was AIDS. Years of substance abuse, the report also noted, had been a major contributing factor in her death.
As The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/lilo-stitch-voice-actress-dead-at-35-after-addiction-struggles">reported</a>, Chase had been living on the streets for some time prior to her passing. Initial reporting from entertainment news site TMZ quoted Roy Hernandez, who claimed to be her boyfriend, as saying that she&#8217;d died from meningitis and an infection in her blood that led to sepsis.
Chase, who also gave a terrifying performance as the ghostly Samara Morgan in “The Ring,” had been struggling with addiction for years and had recently been hospitalized in Los Angeles due to malnutrition.
The actress&#8217;s longtime manager, John Ryan, told The California Post at the time of her death that Chase likely still had <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/06/17/entertainment/lilo-stitch-actress-daveigh-chase-reportedly-had-millions-in-residuals-at-time-of-death/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">millions</a> in uncollected residuals. He explained that the deal Chase had signed when she got the role of Lilo — at just 8 years old — had included residuals and a cut of any future toys or theme park attractions that featured her voice. That money, which has continued to roll in, was apparently left uncollected as she was “too far gone” to accept her payments.
Years earlier, Ryan said that he and Chase&#8217;s stepsister Gaia Brown had hired a private investigator in the hopes of tracking Chase down and forcing her to get treatment for what they believed was addiction to heroin and fentanyl.
When a 2025 video circulated on social media, showing an emaciated and barely conscious woman who looked a lot like Chase on Skid Row, they went there to search for her. Ryan said at the time that he even spoke to her on the phone, but by the time they got to Skid Row, she had left.
“We were so close to finding her. Daveigh was the sweetest and brightest light in Hollywood. I can’t believe this is real. Her legacy and work will live on forever,” Ryan said.
Chase’s final role was in 2016’s “American Romance.”

The Democratic socialist darling poised to represent New York&#8217;s 13th Congressional District reportedly had a since-deleted Twitter account that read like communist fan fiction.
Darializa Avila Chevalier, according to a new report from CNN, kept a Twitter account under the name &#8220;Darializabonet.&#8221; The bio under the name in 2020 read, &#8220;how communist of you,&#8221; and the entire account was apparently deleted in 2022.
The contents of the now-deleted account included complaints about the lack of available Marxist literature — particularly works by revolutionaries like Vladimir Lenin — and a recommendation that Karl Marx&#8217;s &#8220;Capital&#8221; was a &#8220;must-read.&#8221; She also retweeted a post from another communist account complaining that bookstores did not feature &#8220;The Complete Works of J. V. Stalin&#8221; in displays about books that had been &#8220;banned.&#8221;
The account also quoted convicted cop killer and Black Liberation Army member Assata Shakur, who escaped from prison and fled to Cuba to avoid a life sentence, on the idea that people should read communist revolutionaries of color — &#8220;Ho Chi Minh, Kim Il Sung, Che, or Fidel [Castro]&#8221; — before Lenin or Marx. The revolutionaries could not be ignored, she said, because of their contributions to the cause — but she disliked elevating them above their non-white counterparts.
Other posts she either commented on or retweeted shared similarly favorable views of communism and socialism — including one retweet of a post complaining that Americans objected to communism over seemingly trivial things like the number of available soup varieties at a grocery store.
&#8220;I just cannot get over the fact that the universe has foisted upon us the perfect illustration of literally every failing of capitalism and people are still like we can’t be communists cuz there won’t be enough types of soup,&#8221; the post she retweeted read.
Avila Chevalier, backed by New York City&#8217;s new Democratic socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani, defeated incumbent Democrat Adriano Espaillat to win the Democratic primary — and because she&#8217;s unlikely to face any real challenge from Republicans, Avila Chevalier&#8217;s victory in November is all but certain.
Comedian and HBO host <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/bill-maher-is-not-down-with-the-jew-hating-socialists-my-vote-is-in-play">Bill Maher</a> sounded the alarm on Avila Chevalier before additional details from the account came to light, saying during his Friday broadcast that she was &#8220;patient zero&#8221; if the &#8220;Woke Mind Virus&#8221; had such a thing.

The Supreme Court announced on Monday that it would not hear President Donald Trump&#8217;s appeal in the $5 million sex abuse and defamation case brought by E. Jean Carroll.
The high court&#8217;s refusal to hear the case means that Trump is on the hook to pay out $5 million to Carroll, 82, pursuant to the case that was decided in May of 2023. Carroll — who claims that Trump sexually abused her in the fitting room of a Bergdorf Goodman in the 1990s — argued that he had also defamed her by denying he did so, declaring that she was &#8220;not his type,&#8221; and suggesting that she&#8217;d invented the claim in order to drive book sales.
Trump made it clear immediately that the fight was not over. &#8220;Surprisingly, the Supreme Court declined to &#8216;review&#8217; a Fake Case brought against me by a woman I never met (Decades old celebrity photo line, standing with her husband, does not count!),&#8221; <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/116834055569312013">Trump said</a> via his Truth Social platform.

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/the-e-jean-carroll-rabbit-hole-goes-deeper-than-you-think">Trump and Carroll</a> are still involved in another lawsuit that could potentially result in a much higher payout. A January 2024 verdict ordered Trump to pay out more than $83 million in additional damages. The jury in that case determined that Trump should pay Carroll $65 million in punitive damages, $11 million to help her rebuild her reputation, and $7.3 million for pain and suffering.
The two cases, in an interesting twist, were actually decided out of order: the $5 million ruling (2023) stemmed from a case initially filed in 2022, while the $83 million ruling (2024) was the result of a suit filed in 2019. As Trump pointed out in his post, Carroll had only been able to file the second suit because of a new law enacted in New York that allows sex abuse victims to file new civil claims related to previous incidents.

President Donald Trump reacted on Monday to the Supreme Court&#8217;s decision to allow mail-in ballots to be counted after Election Day — and immediately argued that it was all the more reason to push ahead with the Save America Act to secure election integrity.
Trump took to Truth Social to respond to several of the high court&#8217;s decisions. He took extra care to <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/116834002761429397">outline</a> the reasons he felt that passing the Save America Act would counteract any harm done to election integrity by allowing the late ballot counting to continue.
&#8220;In light of the tremendous loss in the Supreme Court today concerning Voter’s Rights, and the fact that &#8216;people’s&#8217; votes are allowed to be counted LONG AFTER an Election is over, it is more important than ever to pass THE SAVE AMERICA ACT, which is, 1. ALL VOTERS MUST SHOW PHOTO I.D. (IDENTIFICATION!); 2. ALL VOTERS MUST SHOW PROOF OF CITIZENSHIP; 3. NO MAIL-IN BALLOTS (EXCEPT FOR ILLNESS, DISABILITY, MILITARY DEPLOYMENT, OR TRAVEL!).&#8221;
Trump went on to draw a hard line on the issue, lashing out at Republicans who might not support the measure and reminding them of the threat posed by the socialists who have already begun to infiltrate the Democratic Party — winning safely blue primaries over Democratic incumbents.
&#8220;There is no excuse for a politician, or otherwise, to be against the above three requirements. There is only one reason to oppose — CHEATING! The House of Representatives has approved this vital Act, THREE TIMES,&#8221; Trump added. &#8220;The United States Senate seems unable to do so. President Donald Trump ripped into the Democratic socialist who is poised to be the next Mayor of Washington, D.C., in a Sunday afternoon <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/116829276650028561">social media post</a>.
The president noted that city council member Janeese Lewis George, who ran on a platform that included universal childcare and taxpayer-funded housing, won the Democratic primary with 54.1% of the vote — nearly 20 points ahead of her closest competitor, Kenyan R. McDuffie. Because there is no standout opponent going into November&#8217;s general election, Lewis George&#8217;s primary victory likely means that she will be the city&#8217;s next mayor.
&#8220;Janeese Lewis George, the Communist who is almost certainly going to be elected Mayor of Washington, D.C., has stated that she wants to empty the prisons, make D.C. a Sanctuary City, oppose ICE, welcome Criminal Illegal Aliens back into our beloved Capital, resist Anti-Crime Crackdowns, Defund the Police, continue and expand Cashless Bail, and so many other Capital destroying &#8216;things,'&#8221; Trump posted on Sunday.

Lewis George&#8217;s primary victory comes on the heels of a number that followed a similar pattern. Three Democratic socialists in New York, backed by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, also won their primaries. Two of the three bested incumbent Democrats in the process — and are unlikely to face any meaningful opposition in November&#8217;s general election.
As more and more primaries go in that direction, it has become clear that not everyone in the Democratic Party is <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/panic-sets-in-dems-tailspin-as-they-realize-the-hostile-socialist-takeover-already-started">on board</a> with the dramatic shift. Governor Josh Shapiro (D-PA), comedian Bill Maher, and longtime Democratic strategist James Carville are among those who have warned that the Democratic socialists are not Democrats, and may be steering the party in a direction they do not want to go.

Former President Joe Biden spoke at the Maryland Democratic Party&#8217;s Fight Back and Win Summit in Baltimore — and after shouting and mumbling through his remarks, he appeared to have some difficulty finding his way off the stage.

Putting his name on the Kennedy Center. Building an arch in his own honor. Even hiring his own pool guy to fix the reflecting pool. Woah – what a loser.&#8221;
Biden mumbled through some more of his comments, and then turned to exit the stage. Pointing his finger to the left and then to the right, Biden appeared confused as to which direction he was supposed to go to exit the stage. After a momentary pause, he turned his back on the audience and walked away from the lectern.
Biden had similar difficulty at the recent grand opening of former President Barack Obama&#8217;s library and presidential center in Chicago, briefly <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/watch-joe-biden-gets-lost-onstage-at-obama-library-opening">scanning the crowd</a> before asking where his granddaughter was sitting and then wandering off the stage.

Less than a week after Democratic socialists swept several races in New York&#8217;s primaries, the memo appears to have gone out to the more moderate Democrats: the socialists aren&#8217;t just coming, they&#8217;re already here — and the threat is coming from inside the house.
Three candidates backed by New York City&#8217;s Democratic socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani won their respective primaries on Tuesday — and two of them defeated incumbent Democrats to do it — but the one raising the most eyebrows is Darializa Avila Chevalier.
Avila Chevalier, now the Democratic nominee for New York&#8217;s 13th Congressional District, is a card-carrying member of the Democratic Socialists of America who doesn&#8217;t believe murderers should go to prison — ever — and refers to American military veterans as &#8220;war criminals.&#8221; She wants all police abolished, would cut the defense budget to $0, and referred to former President Joe Biden as a &#8220;rapist.&#8221;
Despite their desire to take back control of the U.S. House of Representatives in November, Avila Chevalier appears to be making some more moderate Democrats very uncomfortable — and they&#8217;re doing everything they can to put as much distance as possible between Mamdani&#8217;s chosen few and the Democratic Party writ large.
Meghan Hays, who served as an adviser to both former Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden, told Fox News anchor Martha MacCallum that she was &#8220;frustrated&#8221; by the fact that no one in the party appeared to be standing up to the obvious threat of takeover.

Longtime Democratic strategist James Carville took a more antagonistic stance, saying that not only did the Democrats need to keep the socialist wing of the party from taking over, but that he&#8217;d prefer they be ejected from the party entirely.

In addition to concerns about whether or not the Democratic socialists were prepared to govern, &#8220;The View&#8221; host Sara Haines worried that their more extreme policy positions would be a &#8220;gift&#8221; to Republicans going into the midterm elections. If a candidate like Avila Chevalier called for abolishing police and referred to military veterans as &#8220;war criminals,&#8221; it wouldn&#8217;t be long before all Democrats were fending off claims that they too believed in such extreme policies.

Maher spoke with Vice President JD Vance on Friday&#8217;s broadcast of &#8220;Real Time,&#8221; and the discussion turned to the recent wins — particularly in places like New York City — racked up by fringe Left candidates endorsed by Democratic socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
&#8220;Like, if this is where the Democratic Party is going, where this Democratic socialist — this obsession with Israel, with the Jew hating, they don’t believe in capitalism, no prisons&#8230;” “If this is where they’re going, my vote is in play,&#8221; Maher declared.
&#8220;Okay, I like to hear that,&#8221; Vance replied.
&#8220;It actually always has been,&#8221; Maher continued. &#8220;I just, every year, I don’t make my decision by who has an R or a D, I actually always came to the conclusion that the Democrat was probably better and voted for them. The Daily Wire editor emeritus Ben Shapiro weighed in late on Friday after the United States launched retaliatory strikes on Iran, saying that President Donald Trump&#8217;s latest move was proof that the &#8220;peace through strength&#8221; foreign policy was back.
Shapiro responded to the news that American forces had targeted &#8220;Iranian missile and drone storage locations and coastal radar sites&#8221; on Friday afternoon, responding to an Iranian attack on a Singapore-flagged ship in the Strait of Hormuz that took place one day prior.

Shapiro laid out what exactly had transpired in the hours leading up the the the U.S. response, and noted the Trump had quickly made it clear he &#8220;couldn&#8217;t allow&#8221; Tehran to violate the agreement.
He went on to say that the president&#8217;s reaction was proof of a &#8220;shift&#8221; in the thinking within the administration, and that the &#8220;peace through strength&#8221; foreign policy — often touted by the late President Ronald Reagan — was back: &#8220;A President Trump 1.0 foreign policy.&#8221;
United States Central Command (CENTCOM) issued a statement at the time, saying that American forces would remain in the area to make sure that Iran obeyed the terms laid out by the ceasefire agreement.
&#8220;CENTCOM forces continue to provide safe passage coordination and support to commercial vessels transiting the strait,” the command said. “The U.S. military remains present and vigilant to ensure all aspects of the agreement with Iran are adhered to, obeyed, and in full force and effect.&#8221;
Vice President JD Vance also responded to news of the retaliatory strike, saying that the United States had every intention of holding to the terms of the ceasefire agreement, but would not stand down if Iran moved in violation of the deal. &#8220;Violence will be met with violence,&#8221; he said.

President Donald Trump offered some advice — from his own experience — to former MTV reality TV star Spencer Pratt in the wake of his loss in the Los Angeles mayoral primary election.
Trump mentioned Pratt while speaking to the Faith &amp; Freedom Coalition on Friday, jabbing at California&#8217;s long, drawn-out ballot-counting process, which he and numerous others argue opens the doors wide for anyone with the desire to commit election fraud.

The president then advised Pratt to keep pushing back, adding, &#8220;And he went away quietly. We didn&#8217;t go away quietly. He shouldn&#8217;t go away quietly; he should protest, because it was, in my very strong opinion, a rigged election. That kid should be in the runoffs.&#8221;
Trump went on to describe how Pratt — solidly in second place when the polls closed on Election Day — had seen his lead chipped away and then eventually obliterated as mail-in ballots overwhelmingly favored Democratic Socialist City Councilwoman Nithya Raman.
&#8220;The woman who edged him out after like a long time,&#8221; Trump referenced Raman with a chuckle. &#8220;Days. Days and days. And then you&#8217;d hear reports: &#8216;Spencer Pratt is not doing so well&#8217; even though he was strongly in the lead.&#8221;
Despite his loss, Pratt has promised to continue his efforts to expose the failures in the city&#8217;s leadership — beginning with incumbent Democrat Mayor Karen Bass, whom Pratt and many others blame for the disastrous response to the deadly Palisades Fire. He has also promised to continue his efforts to help clean up Los Angeles.
While Trump did not officially endorse Pratt, he spoke positively about him when asked — and Pratt, who is a registered Republican, made it clear from the beginning that his campaign was interested in results over partisanship.
