Round two of negotiations with Iran will take place this week despite attacks on the Strait of Hormuz, President Donald Trump said on Sunday— but he also put the regime on notice, warning that the United States is prepared to resume an all out barrage of strikes on Iran.
While officials originally said the negotiation is being led by JD Vance, on Sunday morning the president revealed that the vice president would not be making the trip to Pakistan due to security concerns.
Trump told several outlets by phone that the vice president would not be making the trip to the Pakistani capital for the second round of meetings, explaining that the Secret Service was not comfortable with him doing so with just 24 hours advance notice. Instead, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff is expected to arrive on Monday evening ahead of the talks and President Trump&#8217;s son-in-law Jared Kushner is also set to attend the Tuesday meetings.
Trump did not rule out making a trip to Islamabad himself, The New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/04/19/us-news/iran-war-negotiations-will-resume-this-week-trump-tells-the-post/">reported</a>, but said that he wanted to see how the next round of negotiations went before he committed to his own next move: &#8220;I would say maybe at a little bit later date. We have to see how it works out tomorrow.&#8221;

Trump lashed out at the Iranian regime via Truth Social on Sunday morning, following reports that the Iranian military had opened fire on ships in the Strait of Hormuz after agreeing to keep it open.
&#8220;Iran decided to fire bullets yesterday in the Strait of Hormuz — A Total Violation of our Ceasefire Agreement! Many of them were aimed at a French Ship, and a Freighter from the United Kingdom,&#8221; Trump posted, adding, &#8220;That wasn’t nice, was it?&#8221;
&#8220;My Representatives are going to Islamabad, Pakistan — They will be there tomorrow evening, for Negotiations,&#8221; he continued, and then confirmed to several outlets on Sunday that Vance would not be part of those conversations in person.
Trump concluded by warning the Iranian regime to take the deal being offered by the United States, saying, &#8220;We’re offering a very fair and reasonable DEAL, and I hope they take it because, if they don’t, the United States is going to knock out every single Power Plant, and every single Bridge, in Iran. NO MORE MR. NICE GUY! They’ll come down fast, they’ll come down easy and, if they don’t take the DEAL, it will be my Honor to do what has to be done, which should have been done to Iran, by other Presidents, for the last 47 years. Pope Leo attempted to put some distance between himself and the prevailing media narrative surrounding his relationship with President Donald Trump — namely that the two are at odds — and said that he was not at all interested in debating the American President.
The Catholic leader framed the narrative as beginning with Trump&#8217;s most recent comments about him, calling him &#8220;weak&#8221; — although their public differences stretch back to comments Pope Leo made about the Trump administration&#8217;s military actions in Iran — and claimed that the media was creating a spectacle where one did not really exist.

&#8220;There has been a certain narrative that has not been accurate in all of its aspects,&#8221; Pope Leo explained. &#8220;But because of the political situation created when — on the first day of the trip, the President of the United States made some comments about myself. Much of what has been written since then has been more commentary on commentary trying to interpret what has been said.&#8221;

While the media narrative constantly gins up conflict – and yes, real disagreements have happened and will happen – the reality is often much more complicated. Pope Leo preaches the gospel, as he should, and that will inevitably mean he offers his opinions on the moral issues of the day. The President – and the entire administration – work to apply those moral principles in a messy world. He will be in our prayers, and I hope that we&#8217;ll be in his.&#8221;
Pope Leo has been broadly commenting on military action against Iran since the war between the Iranian regime and Israel in 2025 and through Operation Epic Fury, which began at the end of February. He has repeatedly called for peace through meaningful dialogue in spite of repeated demonstrations proving that the Iranian regime is neither interested in good faith negotiations nor willing to facilitate any kind of lasting peace.
Trump has pushed back, pointing out the clear examples of Iran&#8217;s aggression and refusal to negotiate honestly and arguing that continuing diplomacy in the face of such aggression was as unwise as it was dangerous. During a recent press gaggle, when asked what he&#8217;d say to Iran about the fact that four civilian protesters — one of them a woman — were set to be executed, Trump suggested that the press <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/watch-the-message-trump-wants-passed-along-to-the-pope">inform the Pope</a> of that development.

Country singer Shane McAnally responded on Friday to a wave of backlash directed at him over a video he&#8217;d posted to Instagram. In the video, his five-month-old called out for &#8220;mama&#8221; — and he laughed as he informed the baby that he had two dads and no mama.
&#8220;We found it hilarious,&#8221; McAnally <a href="https://x.com/CollinRugg/status/2044911121916997764">said of the video</a>. &#8220;He&#8217;s five months old, he obviously doesn&#8217;t understand English.&#8221;
&#8220;Babies usually say dada first, but people wouldn&#8217;t then say the babies are only wanting their dads? It doesn&#8217;t really make sense,&#8221; he added.
The musician also complained that the whole thing had been taken &#8220;out of context,&#8221; saying that he was &#8220;appalled&#8221; by some of the comments he&#8217;d seen.
McAnally did not explain what &#8220;context&#8221; he believed critics were missing, but a number of them pointed out the fact that it was not the first time McAnally had set the baby up as a social media punchline: a video posted in December of 2025 showed the same baby, all smiles as dad (off-camera) talked about his siblings and pets — and then suddenly appeared concerned at the mention of &#8220;two dads.&#8221; The video, still pinned to McAnally&#8217;s Instagram page, is titled &#8220;6 week old homophobic baby.&#8221;
The country singer has been dabbling in stand-up comedy recently, but the &#8220;homophobic baby&#8221; got more backlash than laughs.

President Donald Trump lashed out on Thursday, asking via Truth Social who was “dumber” — former Fox News personality Tucker Carlson or former intelligence official Joe Kent.
“Who’s dumber, Tucker Carlson or Joe Kent? It’s very interesting!” Trump’s post began, and he went on to lay out his case for Kent.
The president explained that he’d first met Kent at Dover Air Force Base during the dignified transfer of Kent&#8217;s late wife, who was killed by Iranian terror proxies in Syria.
“Her casket was being brought to Dover, along with the rest, although he married again, quite quickly, in my opinion,” Trump continued, jabbing at Kent over his Congressional losses. “In any event, a number of years later, I noticed the same person was running for Congress in Washington State, and lost. I then noticed a couple of years later, he was running again, and lost.”
Trump then explained that he’d felt bad for Kent, who had run as a Republican, and for that reason had offered him a position in the administration.
“I told my people, ‘Hire him for the White House. Give him a job, make him feel good, he lost his wife and two Elections.’ They did so and, while I rarely saw him, I certainly didn’t expect disloyalty, but that’s what I got,” Trump added. “He was really a SLEAZEBAG, and some would say, on top of it all, A LEAKER!”
Trump concluded by suggesting that he would no longer make hiring decisions just because he felt bad for someone: “NO MORE MR. NICE GUY!”
Lumping in several other relatively recent critics, Trump compared Kent to Carlson, Megyn Kelly and Candace Owens as well: “Kent is a LOSER, just like Tucker, Candace, Megyn, and the rest of them are LOSERS — You’re born that way, LOW IQ, and there’s not a damn thing they’re going to be able to do about it!”
Kent, who recently resigned as director of the National Counterterrorism Center, cited disagreements over the Trump administration&#8217;s actions in Iran as the reason for his exit and claimed that the United States was acting in Israel&#8217;s interest.

Pope Leo has repeatedly criticized the Trump administration, saying early on that Iran should be dealt with through diplomacy rather than military action. His critiques have grown more pointed with time, and he recently claimed that God would not &#8220;bless&#8221; any military conflict.

Video shared on Tuesday shows the moment an Oklahoma high school principal rushed and tackled an armed former student, preventing what authorities say could have been a school shooting.
The security footage, obtained by NBC affiliate KFOR, captures Principal Kirk Moore of Pauls Valley High School confronting the suspect roughly one week before the video was made public.
The video appears to show someone else opening the door, allowing the former student into the building. The suspect then walks into the lobby, briefly hiding behind a vending machine before stepping into view. Just as he approached an office door, the door opened, and Moore barreled toward him.

Moore ducked his head and shoulders as he ran, hitting the suspect in the chest with his full weight and tackling him onto a nearby bench, pinning him there. Moore was shot in the leg at some point during the scuffle.
Another man, identified later as Moore&#8217;s assistant principal, ran out of the same office seconds later. Assessing the situation, he quickly knocked the handgun away from the suspect, then picked it up and secured it inside the office.
The two men restrain the suspect — identified as former student Victor Lee Hawkins, 20, until law enforcement arrives and takes him into custody.
Moore released a lengthy statement after the shooting, thanking local law enforcement and first responders for their support and the community for their prayers and well-wishes.
&#8220;Pauls Valley schools are safe communities unaccustomed to the type of threat we witnessed on Tuesday. Nevertheless, like so many educators around the country, we prepare for these events through training and careful assessments of threats,&#8221; Moore said. &#8220;I am grateful that my instincts and training, as well as God’s hand, were available to come to me on Tuesday.&#8221;

Artemis II pilot Victor Glover went a long way — 252,756 miles, to be exact — to make an impression, and boy, did he ever make one. A devout Christian, Glover praised God from the heavens as he and his compatriots completed their lunar mission — and his faith resonated in shockwaves back on Earth.
While many are accustomed to watching celebrities or sports figures answer victory — and sometimes defeat — with prayer and a call to glorify God in all things, those words are more striking when they come from scientists because so often culture teaches us that science and faith must be at odds with each other.
But Glover says otherwise, loudly and boldly — and when he&#8217;s given a microphone, even hundreds of thousands of miles from Earth, he says it again.
The naval test pilot holds three master&#8217;s degrees in flight and engineering fields, and he explained in a 2023 <a href="https://www.christianpost.com/news/christian-artemis-ii-pilot-victor-glover-reframes-race-question.html">interview</a> that his faith feeds his academic and career pursuits.
&#8220;My career is fed by my faith. Anytime I do something that’s pretty risky, I pray. Before I fly, every time I fly. Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) announced on Sunday evening, amid multiple accusations of inappropriate sexual behavior and at least one accusation of rape, that he was suspending his campaign for the California governorship.

Swalwell once again declared his innocence — as he had one day prior in a video announcing his plan to fight the accusations against him, which he described as &#8220;flat false.&#8221; Since Friday, Swalwell has been hit with several accusations ranging from inappropriate and sexually charged messages to at least one accusation of rape.
In the time elapsed since the first accusations were publicly reported, a number of elected Democrats have withdrawn their support for his gubernatorial campaign and have called for him to bow out of the race. Others have taken that a step further and have suggested that he also resign his congressional seat — and some have said that they would, should the opportunity arise, vote to expel him from Congress.
The California congressman&#8217;s announcement comes as several other investigations are already underway — including a DHS investigation into reports that he hired a Brazilian nanny and then lied about the fact that she was living in the United States illegally.
His employees followed suit, with a group of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/mass-exodus-swalwells-senior-staffers-quit-as-accusations-evidence-build">senior staffers</a> from both his congressional office and his gubernatorial campaign office issuing a joint memo on Saturday and resigning en masse. They withdrew all support from Swalwell and promised to stand with their former colleagues who had come forward to accuse him — and they also  called on voters to withdraw support from Swalwell.

The Department of Homeland Security confirmed on Sunday that a federal investigation into Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) included reports that he&#8217;d hired — and then lied about — a Brazilian nanny who was living in the United States illegally.
POLITICO&#8217;s Dan Lippman broke the <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2026/04/12/dhs-probing-swalwell-allegations-illegally-employed-nanny-00868557">story</a>, reporting on Sunday that U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) had referred allegations to law enforcement at DHS — and the department issued a response from the official X account.

The news comes as multiple other investigations are already in play — and as the California congressman and gubernatorial candidate is also facing <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/three-more-women-level-sexual-misconduct-accusations-against-eric-swalwell">several accusations</a> of inappropriate sexual behavior, ranging from unwanted attention to at least one claim of rape from a former staffer.
The Manhattan district attorney opened an investigation into Swalwell on Saturday after learning that on of the women accusing him of sexual misconduct lived in New York. Weeks earlier, the Justice Department had opened an unrelated investigation into the gubernatorial hopeful, alleging <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/eric-swalwell-wants-to-get-out-of-d-c-as-mortgage-fraud-scrutiny-intensifies">mortgage fraud</a>.
Since the accusations began to drop on Friday, Swalwell&#8217;s <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/swalwells-dem-buddies-flee-like-rats-after-sexual-assault-allegation">friends and colleagues</a> have quickly deserted him. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, a close ally of President Donald Trump, conceded defeat on Sunday to opposition leader and head of the center-right Tisza party, Péter Magyar. Orbán, leader of the Fidesz party, has held the nation&#8217;s top office for 16 years.
With the votes nearly all counted by <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2026/04/12/world/live-news/hungary-election-orban-magyar">Sunday afternoon</a>, the Tisza Party looked poised to also deliver a two-thirds majority in parliament — which is likely to prompt a dramatic shift in Hungary&#8217;s relationship with the European Union.
The E.U. and Orbán have often been at odds — and Magyar has already declared his intent to work more closely with the governing body than his predecessor did.
&#8220;Hungarians said ‘yes’ to Europe,” Magyar said. &#8220;Hungary is again going to be a very strong ally of the European Union and NATO.&#8221;
Magyar boasted that his party had won some 3.3 million votes — the largest number for any one political party in Hungary&#8217;s history: &#8220;Together we replaced the Orbán regime, together we liberated Hungary. We took our country back.”

Magyar, according to <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2026/04/12/hungary-election-viktor-orban-trump/">The Washington Post</a>, was poised to see his party take 138 seats in the 199-seat parliament. In contrast, Orbán&#8217;s party is likely to only take 55.
&#8220;Today we have worked a miracle, Hungary has written history,” Magyar said. “Today truth triumphed over lies. Today Hungarians didn’t ask the question what can the country do for them but what can they do for the country.&#8221;
President Donald Trump&#8217;s administration has had a good relationship with Orbán, and the president himself offered an endorsement via video, and Vice President JD Vance traveled to Hungary to campaign alongside Orbán in recent weeks.
&#8220;We hope you will vote for independent thinking and for someone who stands for Hungary First,” Donald Trump Jr. posted on X Sunday morning. “We hope you will vote for my father’s friend and ally.&#8221;
Orbán was quick to concede the race as the vote tallies came in, saying that the results were &#8220;clear&#8221; as he delivered brief remarks to supporters.

Artemis II Commander Reid Wiseman admitted to stealing one very important item from the capsule as he and his teammates disembarked the Orion capsule after Friday&#8217;s splashdown in the Pacific Ocean: the crew&#8217;s zero-gravity indicator.
The little plush ball, nicknamed &#8220;Rise&#8221; and made to look like the iconic &#8220;earth-rise&#8221; over the moon that can only be seen from space, was featured alongside the human crew members throughout the Artemis II lunar mission and had, in effect, become part of the team.
Rise could be seen in a photo of Wiseman after he left the capsule, prompting a comment on X that read, &#8220;It&#8217;s very moving to me that Commander Reid Wiseman, the last of the #ArtemisII astronauts to exit Integrity, made sure to bring the plushie Rise — and the 5 million names it carries — back with him immediately upon landing. Every one of those names completed the mission with him.&#8221;
Wiseman responded, saying, &#8220;I was supposed to leave Rise in Integrity … but that was not something I was going to do. I stuffed that little guy in a dry bag we had in our survival kit and hooked the bag onto my pressure suit.&#8221;

The little plush moon was designed by a California second grader, Lucas Ye, as part of a contest — which required that the item meet certain weight and size standards and only be made from specific materials that would be safe for spaceflight — and Ye has since said that he&#8217;d like to work for NASA when he grows up.
