<p>Washington state Democrat Krista Perez — who is seeking a seat in the state House — told a police officer after her August DUI arrest that she didn&#8217;t &#8220;know how to get out&#8221; of the police vehicle.</p>
<p>Perez was seen on police bodycam footage as she sat in the back of the vehicle, with her hands cuffed behind her back, alternately sobbing and begging for help as she complained that the handcuffs were sliding down her arms and cutting her hands.</p>
<p>Police in Tacoma, Washington, said that Perez was arrested after her 2019 Chevrolet Silverado allegedly ran into a parked vehicle on South G Street, FOX News <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/democrat-candidate-seen-sobbing-praying-patrol-car-dui-arrest-video">reported</a>. The impact of the collision, which reportedly occurred just after midnight on August 11, ultimately damaged several other vehicles.</p>
<p>When police arrived, they asked Perez about the collision — and while she admitted to drinking wine, she said that she did not understand what was happening.</p>
<p>&#8220;Did you get into an accident here?&#8221; an officer asked her.</p>
<p data-layout-index="5">&#8220;I did not,&#8221; she replied.</p>
<p data-layout-index="5">When the officer asked Perez what had happened, she said, &#8220;I don’t know. I’ve never been in an accident before.&#8221;</p>
<p data-layout-index="5">The conversation quickly went sideways after the officer asked Perez whether or not she had been drinking that evening.</p>
<p data-layout-index="5">&#8220;I just had some wine,&#8221; she said, and when the officer followed up by asking how much wine she&#8217;d had, she insisted that it had been only one glass.</p>
<p data-layout-index="5">She struggled to answer when the officer asked how big the glass had been, saying, &#8220;I think you might need to contact the business.&#8221;</p>
<p>On a sobriety scale of zero to 10 — with zero being completely sober — Perez first rated herself a zero and then later revised that to a four.</p>
<p>The officer asked if she was willing to submit to field sobriety tests — which he reminded her were voluntary — and she said that she&#8217;d prefer to &#8220;go home first.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;You’re not going to go home first. I’m going to tell you that right now, okay? So your options between the test, yes or no, that’s going to be determined tonight, right now, not when you go home. So would you like to take these tests or no?&#8221; he asked.</p>
<p>She said again that she wanted to &#8220;go home first,&#8221; which the officer interpreted as a refusal. He placed her under arrest, and Perez was charged with DUI along with a refusal enhancement.</p>
<p>The remainder of the footage shows Perez in the vehicle, sobbing and begging for help as she complained about her arm hurting because of the handcuffs.</p>
<p>When they arrived at the station, she began sobbing loudly, repeating, &#8220;Please help me, please help me.&#8221;</p>
<p>The door opened, and she directed her plea at the officer: &#8220;Please help me.&#8221;</p>
<p>When she explained that the handcuffs had slid too far down her arms and were cutting into her hands, the officer attempted to adjust them for her.</p>
<p>&#8220;I don&#8217;t know how to get out,&#8221; she said then, as he tried to help her out of the vehicle. &#8220;I don&#8217;t know how to get out.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;One leg and then the other,&#8221; was the officer&#8217;s calm reply.</p>
<p>&#8220;I don&#8217;t know how to get out,&#8221; she said again and again, and the footage ended shortly after she finally stepped out of the vehicle and stood barefoot next to the door.</p>

<p>The leftist group Hot2Vote has announced a $100,000 push to register voters in Atlanta, Georgia, with the help of a few adult film stars.</p>
<p>Porn stars are posing for pin-up-style posters and videos aimed at getting more people registered to vote ahead of the 2026 midterm elections in November. <a href="https://www.politico.com/playbook">POLITICO Playbook</a> reported on Thursday that the push comes after a major clean-up of the state&#8217;s voter rolls, and features 100 performers reminding Georgia voters to &#8220;check their status&#8221; to make sure that their voter registrations remain active.</p>
<p>One video, shared on <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7QJiXqZEFM">YouTube</a>, shows adult film actress Kimmy Kimm walking voters through the process of checking their voter registration status online. Kimm, a Georgia native herself, is known for titles such as &#8220;Unsavory Elements&#8221; and &#8220;Nothing She Won&#8217;t Stoop To.&#8221;</p>
<p>Another <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxEmEHP7z0Y">video</a> features Cherie DeVille (&#8220;Kinky Secrets of the Suburbs,&#8221; &#8220;Trans-Active&#8221;) and King Noire (&#8220;The Bang Theory 8,&#8221; &#8220;Sex and Love in the Time of Quarantine&#8221;), also advising voters to &#8220;check their status&#8221; on the state&#8217;s voter registration site.</p>
<p>According to POLITICO, the multi-media ad campaign will also include &#8220;pin-up-style posters, in-person appearances and digital ads geofenced to adult clubs, with the aim of reaching more than 400,000 people (mainly men) around Atlanta.&#8221;</p>
<p>The campaign is far from the first time celebrities have used sex appeal to drive voters to the polls. The <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/politics-news/stars-deploy-sex-appeal-to-get-out-the-vote-4085029/">2020 campaign</a> featured a number of celebrities sharing photos best described as &#8220;thirst traps&#8221; that were designed to grab attention and then direct people to either register to vote or get out and cast a ballot.</p>
<p>Sterling K. Brown, for example, posted a photo and then shared a link for people to click if they liked what they saw — but instead of taking them to more photos, it redirected them to <a href="https://www.vote.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">Vote.org’s website</a>.</p>
<p>The actor later told late-night host Jimmy Fallon that it was worth it if it got people out to exercise their right to vote: &#8220;I had just moisturized. The cocoa butter was in full effect &#8230; you gotta do what you gotta do. If showing a little bit of flesh means that people will be incentivized to go ahead and register, it’s an important vote. I’ll press a little flesh.&#8221;</p>

<p>A traditionally tropical disease is quickly gaining a larger foothold in the United States, as an alarming number of locally acquired cases of dengue fever have cropped up in recent weeks.</p>
<p>Centered primarily in <a href="https://theconversation.com/dengue-carrying-mosquitoes-expand-their-reach-into-new-territories-including-florida-291837">Florida</a>, where the mosquitoes that carry the virus are common, the mosquito-borne virus has been detected in at least 95 cases since July — in Hillsborough County, Florida, alone. In at least one recent case, the virus proved deadly for an elderly woman, according to her doctors. The Florida Department of Health has not yet confirmed that her death was dengue-related.</p>
<p>Officials in Florida have warned the public to take steps to avoid mosquito bites whenever possible — and to take extra steps to avoid being bitten if they know they have been infected, since a mosquito that bites an infected person could then carry dengue to the next person it bites.</p>
<p>Paolo Pecora, a senior environmental scientist with <a href="https://www.wfla.com/news/hillsborough-county/tampa-hillsborough-put-boots-on-the-ground-fighting-dengue-fever/">Hillsborough County</a>, warned local residents to check their homes and properties regularly for standing water, which is where mosquitoes breed.</p>
<p>&#8220;It takes everyone to help this problem,&#8221; Pecora said. &#8220;<span style="font-size: 16px;">It’s right there behind your backdoor. It’s right there at the corner of your house; it’s behind your shed; it’s behind the brush in the shade after you washed the dog, or it’s an old dog bowl or cat bowl.&#8221;</span></p>
<p>He also warned those who have been infected against going out whenever possible: &#8220;Don’t be a host reservoir for the virus. Stay at home, get medical professionals, and contact us. We can do a domestic investigation and treat your yard for free.&#8221;</p>
<p>Dengue fever, more commonly known as &#8220;breakbone fever&#8221; for the extreme deep-bone pain often felt by those infected, is transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes — mainly <a href="https://theconversation.com/mosquitoes-are-picky-eaters-we-studied-3-common-south-florida-species-to-learn-why-they-like-some-people-more-than-others-289647">Aedes aegypti,</a> a species that is fairly common in Florida and bites during the day, unlike most other species. Aedes mosquitoes can also carry a number of other viruses such as Zika and Yellow Fever. Dengue cannot be transmitted from person-to-person contact.</p>
<p>Patients who contract dengue often experience the rapid onset of symptoms, beginning with a high fever and severe headache, often including pain behind the eyes. There is no specific treatment for dengue other than management of symptoms — for which the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend rest, fluids, and acetaminophen (Tylenol) to control the fever. Patients should avoid Ibuprofen and other NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) because they present a risk of bleeding — which can also be a complication of dengue.</p>
<p>If the case is determined to be severe — with additional symptoms including belly pain, vomiting, bleeding from the nose or gums, or extreme restlessness, drowsiness, and irritability — patients are instructed to proceed immediately to an emergency room for care. Severe dengue can develop in just a few hours, so patients are cautioned to track symptoms carefully and seek medical intervention when necessary.</p>
<p>There are no vaccines for dengue in the United States, although some are in development in other countries. There was a vaccine approved in 2019, but it was only given to patients between the ages of nine and 16 in areas where the disease is endemic — and only to patients who had previously had a documented case of dengue. Giving the vaccine to patients who had not previously had dengue increased the likelihood that they would develop severe disease if infected later.</p>
<p>In addition to its rapid spread in the United States, dengue has been surging around the world over the last several years. According to data compiled by the World Health Organization, there were 505,000 cases of dengue reported in 2000. That number ballooned to more than 14 million in 2024, which was the worst year on record.</p>

<p>American Federation of Teachers (AFT) President Randi Weingarten has launched a war against the Department of Transportation — specifically over the department&#8217;s efforts to root out illegal aliens who hold commercial drivers&#8217; licenses (CDLs).</p>
<p>Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy released an ad on Tuesday calling out Weingarten&#8217;s move, accusing her and the AFT of protecting illegal aliens with CDLs — some of whom could be driving school buses all across the United States.</p>
<p>Indeed, Weingarten&#8217;s union released a statement joining a lawsuit against the Transportation Department almost immediately after Secretary Duffy <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-admins-war-on-illegal-immigrant-truckers-intensifies">announced the closure</a> of more than 100 commercial trucking schools.</p>
<p>The <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-admins-war-on-illegal-immigrant-truckers-intensifies">main reason</a> for the closures, Duffy said in a statement, was the lack of English proficiency in graduates of those schools — a violation of federal law.</p>
<p>&#8220;You have to speak English to operate a commercial vehicle. I didn’t create that rule; President Trump didn’t create that rule. That rule has been in place for a decade,” Duffy said during a press conference in late August. &#8220;We have schools that know the rule, and still pass people through their school who can’t speak the language.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;Our investigators went into 400 driver training schools, and we found that 40% of these that we investigated did not meet the rules and the requirements of our regulations,” Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Administrator Derek Barrs said, &#8220;When schools certify underqualified drivers, these drivers get behind the wheel of an 80,000-pound truck, and they kill people. That should make you all upset.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;Many of these certified state testers actually aren’t adequately testing the potential drivers that they’re gonna license. In one state, there’s ten skills testers … who have given over 2,000 driver’s licenses to people who can’t speak English,&#8221; Duffy added.</p>
<p>Within days, Weingarten moved to fight Duffy&#8217;s order.</p>
<p>&#8220;Today, the AFT moved to join an ongoing <a href="https://www.aft.org/sites/default/files/media/documents/2026/92-memo_in_support_of_motion.pdf">lawsuit</a> against the U.S. Department of Transportation, seeking to stop the agency from seizing the personal records of 17 million commercial driver’s license (CDL) holders from the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators, the nonprofit that maintains the national database of driver records.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;Many AFT members require a CDL to work as school bus drivers or Department of Transportation employees — and we must protect them and their privacy against the vindictive nature of this president and his cronies,&#8221; said Weingarten. &#8220;Just like we sued the Department of Government Efficiency for trying to mine personal information from millions of working-class Americans, today we intervene against the U.S. government’s attempt to strong-arm the AAMVA to turn over CDL holders’ private information. This illegal demand puts millions of people’s personal data up for grabs without their consent, people who had no choice but to provide their personal information to the states so they could simply work, and who have no way to remove it from the database.&#8221;</p>
<p>The only &#8220;private information&#8221; Weingarten appears to be trying to protect is the number of drivers who have obtained CDLs while in the United States illegally or who have done so despite a lack of proficiency in the English language.</p>

<p>Former &#8220;Walker, Texas Ranger&#8221; star Judson Mills jabbed at the Emmys decision to leave longtime co-star Chuck Norris out of the awards show&#8217;s &#8220;In Memoriam&#8221; segment designed to honor those who have passed away in the last year.</p>
<p>Mills played the role of Francis Gage, opposite Norris, in the final two seasons of &#8220;Walker, Texas Ranger&#8221; — which spanned nine seasons and 203 episodes total — as well as the 2005 follow-up movie &#8220;Trial by Fire.&#8221; He told entertainment site TMZ that after realizing Norris had been passed over for the segment, he had to &#8220;assume it was just a terrible mistake.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;My first thought was Gena and the family. And his fans,&#8221; Mills said, but said that he believed Norris would not have wanted anyone to be angry about the apparent snub: &#8220;I&#8217;m confident Chuck would encourage forgiveness. He was an &#8216;it&#8217;s not all about me&#8217; kind of guy.&#8221;</p>
<p>Still, Mills said that the omission hurt.</p>

<p>Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed refused to consider returning campaign donations from groups linked to Islamic terrorism — and claimed that it was racist to suggest that he should.</p>
<p>During an interview that aired on FOX 2 Detroit on Tuesday, El-Sayed addressed recent comments from his opponent in the U.S. Senate race, Rep. Mike Rogers (R-MI). Rogers had suggested that El-Sayed should return donations that came from organizations like the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) that have been linked to terrorist organizations like Hamas.</p>
<p>&#8220;Rogers has said that it&#8217;s time for you to return money that you may have gotten from organizations like CAIR, citing what he calls a &#8216;dubious cloud&#8217; over that. Is that something that you&#8217;re thinking about doing, would be willing to do? And what do you have to say about that?&#8221; FOX 2 anchor Roop Raj asked El-Sayed.</p>
<p>According to several recent <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/el-sayed-campaign-backed-100000-dozens-members-group-alleged-terror-ties">reports</a>, El-Sayed has taken more than $115,000 in donations from at least 40 individuals linked to CAIR — which has been designated as a terror organization by the United Arab Emirates and is also acknowledged as such by the states of Florida and Texas. FOX News reported that some those donors were &#8220;CAIR&#8217;s highest-ranking officials, including national Board Chair Manal Fakhoury, national Board Treasurer Eyas Abdeen, national Vice Chair Emad Sabbah, and CAIR-Michigan board member Jukaku Tayeb, El-Sayed&#8217;s father-in-law.&#8221;</p>
<p>El-Sayed responded to the question by suggesting that Rogers was inventing the idea that CAIR was linked to Islamic terrorism out of whole cloth in an effort to smear Muslims across the board and then use that as a political attack against him.</p>
<p>&#8220;You know, that civil rights organization exists because people like Mike Rogers want to make this race about the color of my skin or how I pray,&#8221; El-Sayed replied. &#8220;So I&#8217;m focused on you and your gas prices and the price of your groceries. He&#8217;s focused on trying to turn this into some kind of culture war.&#8221;</p>
<p>He did not acknowledge the fact that CAIR was named as an <a href="https://www.investigativeproject.org/1029/fbi-explains-its-cair-cut-off">unindicted co-conspirator</a> in the 2008 Holy Land Foundation trial, the largest terror-financing prosecution in American history, prompting the FBI to sever all ties with the organization&#8217;s leadership.</p>
<p>He also did not acknowledge direct links between early leadership of CAIR to the Islamic Association for Palestine (IAP), the Muslim Brotherhood, and support for Gaza-based terrorist group Hamas.</p>
<p>El-Sayed has also struggled to separate himself from campaign surrogate and communist streamer <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/hasan-piker-touts-god-given-right-to-say-he-hates-america">Hasan Piker</a>, who has praised Islamic terror groups like Hezbollah and despotic leaders like China&#8217;s Mao Zedong and routinely trashes the United States. Piker also said that &#8220;America deserved 9/11&#8221; — and El-Sayed has had a difficult time outrunning his own previous social media posts <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/abdul-el-sayeds-9-11-problems-just-keep-getting-worse">downplaying the victims</a> of Islamic terror and blaming the United States for responding in kind.</p>
<p>Federal Election Commission (FEC) records also show a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/el-sayed-attracts-over-a-dozen-donors-who-also-gave-to-hitler-praising-congressional-hopeful">bizarre overlap</a> between donors supporting El-Sayed and donors supporting Instagram playboy Dan Bilzerian, who launched a losing Hitler-praising primary campaign for a Florida congressional seat.</p>
<p>El-Sayed&#8217;s FOX 2 Detroit appearance was initially set up as a <a href="https://newscord.org/article/mike-rogers-skips-michigan-senate-debate-citing-fox-2-moderator-roop-raj-favorit--Story_20260915_VancetellsHouseRepub5f14690a">potential debate</a> between him and Rogers — who has agreed to two debates in October — but Rogers declined the FOX 2 setup over the choice of moderator. The Rogers campaign said that Raj, who has previously praised El-Sayed and has received praise from Piker, could not be trusted to be unbiased in that situation.</p>
<p>&#8220;Michiganders deserve to see their candidates engage in a healthy, fair debate — not one compromised by media bias,&#8221; the campaign communications director Alyssa Brouillet said in a statement.</p>

<p>Rowe&#8217;s announcement came hours after <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ed-sheeran-responds-to-the-macklemore-mess-i-am-not-complicit">Sheeran</a> issued a statement that tried to thread the needle by voicing respect for his friend Macklemore while reiterating his intent to stay out of politics.</p>
<p>The rapper was ousted from the tour after backlash over his anti-Israel rants during Sheeran&#8217;s September 5 concert at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Sheeran said promoters and venues made the decision after several venues threatened to cancel upcoming shows if Macklemore remained on the bill.</p>
<p>Macklemore responded with a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/macklemore-blames-jewish-nfl-owner-for-getting-him-booted-from-ed-sheeran-tour">lengthy statement</a> in which he played both hero and victim. He blamed Jewish New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft for starting the ball rolling on kicking him off the tour, Macklemore painted himself as a martyr for the cause, willing to sacrifice everything for what he believed.</p>
<p>Sheeran&#8217;s statement was not enough to prevent the mass exodus. Finneas, Billie Eilish&#8217;s brother, announced his departure in an Instagram post.</p>

<p>Carnegie Mellon University has promised to take &#8220;swift action&#8221; against Dr. Uju Anya over social media posts that colleagues say left them concerned for their own safety.</p>
<p>&#8220;Dr. Uju Anya is currently on voluntary professional leave from the university and is not teaching courses on our campus this academic year. We are deeply concerned by recent hostile and threatening social media posts by Dr. Anya and are reviewing this matter closely,&#8221; the university said in a <a href="https://www.cmu.edu/news/stories/archives/2026/september/carnegie-mellon-university-statement">statement</a> on Saturday. &#8220;To be clear: These posts incorrectly imply our university&#8217;s endorsement and are contrary to our community standards and values as well as our commitment to fostering a safe, respectful and welcoming campus community.&#8221;</p>
<p>The post that started the <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/carnegie-mellon-promises-swift-action-professor-uju-anya-social-media-posts">exchange</a> was an old one, originally shared by Anya in February of 2021, after the death of conservative radio legend Rush Limbaugh: &#8220;Rush Limbaugh finally did something positive in life by dropping dead. Good Riddance to bad rubbish.&#8221;</p>
<p>Someone found that post and responded to it on Friday, asking, &#8220;Weird how you only celebrate the deaths of white people. Why is that?&#8221;</p>
<p>Anya replied, &#8220;Die first, white man, then ask yourself why I’m dancing.&#8221;</p>
<p>That post then caught the attention of X owner Elon Musk, who replied, &#8220;This is a real professor at Carnegie Mellon University …&#8221;</p>
<p>When others responded as well, suggesting the university would likely be displeased with her comments, Anya said Carnegie Mellon fully supported her.</p>
<p>&#8220;Carnegie Mellon University knows exactly who they have. They poached me from my previous job, aggressively recruiting me with a massive salary and stellar benefits. So baby, run tell them they f*cked up, and see if they pick up your call,&#8221; she wrote in one post.</p>
<p>&#8220;Keep crying, loser,&#8221; she told another critic, again insinuating that she had the full support of the school. &#8220;My department chair just texted me saying they’re throwing all of your emails in the trash.&#8221;</p>
<p>Once Musk got involved, people started <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/09/14/us-news/carnegie-mellon-academic-on-leave-after-disturbing-x-posts-calling-for-white-man-to-die-while-she-dances/">looking more closely</a> at Anya&#8217;s account and found a number of troubling posts — including one that had previously sparked backlash against her.</p>
<p>In 2022, while Britain&#8217;s Queen Elizabeth II was dying, she posted, “I heard the chief monarch of a thieving raping genocidal empire is finally dying. May her pain be excruciating.&#8221;</p>
<p>She recognized the one-year anniversary of the late Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk&#8217;s assassination by saying, &#8220;May he rot in piss.&#8221; She also shared a video of students mocking him as they danced through an apparent reenactment of Kirk&#8217;s murder.</p>
<p>Anya responded to the flurry of activity around her posts by doubling down on her own hateful statements and suggesting that she was the victim: &#8220;During an entire day of incessant violent threats, racist abuse, and harassment on Twitter — incited by fascist white supremacist MAGA trolls — I was doxxed &#8230; I meant every word I said in my tweets responding to white men and all others insulting and maligning me. I do not retract or apologize. May they all eat sh*t.&#8221;</p>

<p>The Drug Enforcement Administration is looking closely at a lengthy series of text messages that it believes were sent between the late actress Hayden Panettiere and her alleged drug dealer.</p>
<p>Entertainment news site TMZ <a href="https://www.tmz.com/2026/09/15/hayden-panettiere-drug-dealers-incriminating-texts-focus-drug-enforcement-administration-probe/#continued">reported</a> on Tuesday that the texts in question — which included &#8220;a slew of messages about drugs&#8221; — are &#8220;incriminating&#8221; and have become the focal point of the investigation into the &#8220;Nashville&#8221; star&#8217;s recent death.</p>
<p>According to the report, the conversations went back years and continued up until the week that Panettiere was found dead in a South Carolina Airbnb rental — and included numerous messages that made specific references to obtaining black-market pills.</p>
<p>In a separate <a href="https://www.tmz.com/2026/09/15/hayden-panettiere-home-searched-by-dea/#continued">report</a> also published Tuesday, TMZ revealed that DEA agents searched Panettiere&#8217;s West Hollywood home in the days after her death. They arrived at her condo on August 25, just over one week after she died on August 16, armed with a search warrant. Their target, according to the report, was any evidence of black-market drugs or anything that might link those drugs to a specific dealer. The search included any and all drug paraphernalia, and any drugs — whether prescription or recreational.</p>
<p>Neighbors told TMZ that they had seen three &#8220;shady&#8221; people — two women and one man — coming and going over the years that Panettiere lived there, delivering small bags the neighbors believed contained drugs. The man had made a visit to her home the week prior to her death.</p>
<p>The results of a full toxicology report are still pending, but early reports suggest that Panettiere died after taking an oxycodone pill that was laced with fentanyl. She was 36 years old.</p>
<p>Panettiere&#8217;s on-again, off-again boyfriend, Brian Hickerson, and his brother, Zach Hickerson, found the &#8220;Heroes&#8221; actress unresponsive on the afternoon of August 16 in a Greenville, South Carolina, Airbnb rental she and Brian were sharing. Zach said in a statement that he called 911 while his brother administered naloxone, the opioid overdose-reversal drug sold as Narcan, and that the two performed CPR until first responders arrived. They were unable to revive her.</p>
<p>Brian Hickerson reportedly turned over a bag of medication that had belonged to Panettiere.</p>
<p>The DEA has been involved in the case since the early days of the investigation in the hopes of bringing down her dealer in the same way that the dealers who provided deadly doses to &#8220;Friends&#8221; actor <a href="https://www.justice.gov/usao-cdca/pr/north-hollywood-drug-dealer-who-sold-ketamine-killed-actor-matthew-perry-sentenced-15">Matthew Perry</a> and rapper <a href="https://www.dea.gov/es/node/203936">Mac Miller</a> were brought to justice.</p>

<p>Former Democratic fundraiser Lindy Li says former Vice President Kamala Harris intentionally misled donors in the weeks before she took over the campaign — and the donors knew it.</p>
<p>Li, who switched her party affiliation after Democrats ignored the warning signs that made it clear former President Joe Biden was not capable of serving another term, gave an insider&#8217;s view of what transpired in the days before Biden dropped out of the 2024 presidential race — and what Harris did to crown herself his de facto successor.</p>
<p>&#8220;It was all charade. She was auditioning for Biden&#8217;s endorsement, and the way that she did it was by imposing a fake rule on her staff to not talk about her ascending to the nomination,&#8221; Li told <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/ex-dem-insider-accuses-harris-charade-major-donors-days-before-biden-dropped-out">Fox News Digital</a>.</p>
<p>Li worked closely with donors as a top fundraiser for the party, and she said that as the campaign stretched into the summer of 2024 it became painfully clear to those closest to Biden that he would not make it to November. Harris, she said, used that time to position herself favorably with the donors.</p>
<p>&#8220;I was on the call; she would host calls with donors and pretend to support Biden and say there&#8217;s no daylight between Biden and herself. All the while she was auditioning for those very donors,&#8221; Li explained, adding that Harris carried the charade all the way through to the day Biden left the race: &#8220;It was either on July 19th or July 20th. Actually, I think it was July 19, 2024; Kamala Harris held a call saying that there was no way that Biden would drop out and that she would stick with him until the end. And these were some of the biggest donors in the party.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;A lot of us have group chats, and the immediate reaction is what an effing waste of time. What a charade, how fake. Like these are like the wealthiest people in the country saying that,&#8221; Li said of the general reaction to Harris&#8217; comments. &#8220;They were very aware they were being lied to, that Biden was clearly not okay and to be told that he was okay when he was clearly incapacitated. It was insulting.&#8221;</p>
<p>Once Biden dropped out of the race on July 21, Li said that the president had been hesitant to endorse Harris. But because she had done such a thorough job of ingratiating herself with party donors — and she&#8217;d all but told them that she had Biden&#8217;s full confidence — Biden felt like he did not have a choice.</p>
<p>&#8220;She was flattering people left and right. The first 24 hours were a very intensive charm offensive on her part. And that&#8217;s how she was able to consolidate it so quickly. She flattered people up the wazoo. It made it abundantly clear that Biden had endorsed her. And Biden initially — I don&#8217;t know if people know this, but he didn&#8217;t want to endorse her right away. It took him a while,&#8221; Li said.</p>
<p>The former Democratic fundraiser has written a book — &#8220;<a href="https://www.harpercollins.com/products/unburdened-lindy-li?variant=44717895680034">Unburdened</a>&#8221; — detailing the months that led up to the end of Biden&#8217;s campaign and her subsequent exit from the party. It will be available September 22.</p>

<p>Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman will not seek the death penalty when his office tries Nick Reiner for the 2025 murders of his parents, actor and director Rob Reiner and photographer Michele Reiner.</p>
<p>Entertainment outlet TMZ <a href="https://www.tmz.com/2026/09/15/nick-reiner-prosecutors-not-seeing-death-penalty-in-parents-murder/">reported</a> that Hochman made the decision in part out of respect for the Reiners&#8217; views on capital punishment — they had vocally opposed it on a number of occasions — and in part because Nick&#8217;s siblings, Romy and Jake Reiner, might find it difficult to participate in a trial that could end with their brother being put to death.</p>
<p>Rob Reiner, an outspoken liberal, had nothing but kind words for Erika Kirk after she publicly forgave Tyler Robinson — the man charged with the assassination of her late husband, Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.</p>
<p>Nick Reiner&#8217;s siblings have opted not to be involved in their brother&#8217;s defense, and he has struggled to mount a consistent defense in part because he has been <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/09/15/us-news/nick-reiner-wont-get-death-penalty-if-hes-convicted-of-killing-parents-rob-and-michele/">unable to access</a> money from his trust. Reiner and his attorneys have claimed he was entitled to half of the $1.5 million trust when he turned 30 in 2023, but it did not happen.</p>
<p>The death penalty was on the table in the immediate aftermath of the killings because, as Hochman stated at an early <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/12/16/us/nick-reiner-death-penalty-murder.html">press conference</a>, the initial charges of first-degree murder had added special circumstance enhancements — lying in wait and multiple murders — which elevated the crime to make it eligible for either the death penalty or life without the possibility of parole.</p>
<p>According to the indictment, the crimes “involved great violence, great bodily harm, threat of great bodily harm, or other acts disclosing a high degree of cruelty, viciousness, or callousness.&#8221;</p>
<p>The Reiners were found stabbed to death at their Los Angeles home on December 14, 2025. Their daughter Romy was the first to discover the bodies.</p>
<p>“This was a profound betrayal by someone who was loved and trusted by the very people he is accused of killing,” Hochman said.</p>
<p>Nick Reiner, who had a long history of drug addiction and mental illness, was apprehended a short time later and charged with the murders.</p>
<p>California state law also lists killing for financial gain, killing a police officer or public official, or a killing that involved torture as additional special circumstance designations that could also invoke the death penalty as a consideration.</p>
<p>Although a number of death penalty cases have been tried in California in the last two decades, the state has not executed a death-row inmate since 2006.</p>
<p>Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom&#8217;s 2019 executive order also currently halts executions statewide, meaning even a death sentence would not have resulted in Reiner&#8217;s execution unless a future governor reversed the moratorium.</p>
