President Donald Trump unloaded on Democrats — and posted Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer&#8217;s (D-NY) office number for anyone who wanted to complain — after federal judges weighed in on whether or not Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits could be allowed to lapse amid the ongoing government shutdown.
Two federal judges — U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani in Massachusetts and U.S. District Judge John McConnell in Rhode Island — on Friday <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/live/2025/10/31/us/trump-news">ordered</a> the Trump administration to continue paying out SNAP benefits despite the government shutdown, with McConnell further ordering the administration to tap into emergency funds in order to pay out the benefits &#8220;as soon as possible.&#8221; Talwani&#8217;s order gave the administration until November 3 to come up with a way to fund the program, but did not specify where those funds should come from.
Trump pushed back in a post shared on Truth Social, saying that he was instructing his attorneys to find the fastest way to fund the program and make sure that people could receive the assistance they needed — but he also pointed out the fact that Democrats were continuing to block Republican efforts to reopen the government, thus creating the current quandary.

&#8220;Our Government lawyers do not think we have the legal authority to pay SNAP with certain monies we have available, and now two Courts have issued conflicting opinions on what we can and cannot do,&#8221; Trump began his post, adding, &#8220;I do NOT want Americans to go hungry just because the Radical Democrats refuse to do the right thing and REOPEN THE GOVERNMENT.&#8221;
&#8220;Therefore, I have instructed our lawyers to ask the Court to clarify how we can legally fund SNAP as soon as possible. It is already delayed enough due to the Democrats keeping the Government closed through the monthly payment date and, even if we get immediate guidance, it will unfortunately be delayed while States get the money out. If we are given the appropriate legal direction by the Court, it will BE MY HONOR to provide the funding, just like I did with Military and Law Enforcement Pay,&#8221; he continued.

In an attempt to showcase just how dangerous he believes President Donald Trump to be, Governor Gavin Newsom (D-CA) made the mistake of comparing the United States under Trump to a &#8220;five-alarm fire&#8221; — an analogy that quickly blew up in his face.
Newsom was explaining his position to ABC News anchor Jonathan Karl, and he claimed — among other things — that Trump was likely to do away with elections and the democratic process in their entirety if he was left to himself.

Rep. Janelle Bynum (D-OR) insisted on Thursday that the Republicans had included a “poison pill” in the Continuing Resolution that would reopen the government — but when pressed, she appeared to be unable to identify what exactly that might be.
Bynum, appearing on C-SPAN as the shutdown hit the 30-day mark, claimed that Republicans were trying to pull something over on the American people and that the CR — which has been widely regarded as “clean,” with no changes to anything — necessarily included hidden agenda items.

“I disagree with your characterization and want to make sure that we’re very clear about [what] Republicans have been doing,” Bynum protested. “Any bill that they’ve put forth, they’ve always had some extra stuff to it, there’s always been a poison pill to it, so I disagree with your characterization.”
The C-SPAN anchor pushed back: “What were the poison pills in the clean CR — the continuing resolution, you say it’s not clean — that was voted on in the House in mid-September?”
Bynum ignored the question entirely, and leaned into the camera to make her next point.

”Here’s what’s important,” she said. “I think what you’re trying to do is shift the responsibility to Democrats.”
Just hours earlier, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) had gotten himself into a similarly uncomfortable exchange on CNN.
After he claimed on Wednesday that Republican leaders had not been willing to have a conversation with Democrats in order to bring the shutdown to an end, anchor Kaitlan Collins confronted him with his own admission that he’d spoken to House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) earlier that day.
Over the next two minutes, Jeffries admitted that he had spoken to Johnson — and that Johnson had been the one to reach out to him rather than vice versa. He also admitted that although nothing was resolved, the pair had discussed things “in the ballpark” of the shutdown.

Jean-Pierre has shocked a series of interviewers across <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/cbs-host-baffled-as-biden-press-sec-insists-she-saw-nothing-wrong-with-her-boss-how">multiple networks</a> as she has steadfastly continued to insist — even after leaving the White House — that then-President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-insiders-sang-like-canaries-in-closed-door-testimony-the-president-was-not-all-right">Joe Biden</a> was fully aware and competent up to his very last days in the Oval Office.
As she travels from show to show and network to network, Jean-Pierre has continued to insist that she saw nothing concerning before the disastrous CNN-hosted debate between Biden and President Donald Trump — despite the fact that she was with the president nearly every day and had even been with Biden aboard Air Force One on the way to that debate. Her colleagues, some of whom have since come forward to admit that Biden was struggling, particularly in the later days of his presidency, have not had kind things to say about her press tour.
&#8220;She doesn’t seem to have any idea what she’s arguing,&#8221; one colleague told Politico of her book — &#8220;Independent: A Look Inside a Broken White House, Outside the Party Lines&#8221; — given that she worked inside the Biden White House, but has in recent interviews claimed that the &#8220;broken White House&#8221; mentioned in the title was President Donald Trump&#8217;s.
The real problem, according to most, is her apparent inability to field the most basic of questions in live interviews.

She was the top communicator for the president of the United States and she can’t get through basic interviews,&#8221; an unnamed strategist told Politico, adding that reading the print interview she&#8217;d done for The New Yorker was like &#8220;watching Mike Tyson fight a baby.&#8221;

Australian news anchor Sarah Ferguson did not give former Vice President Kamala Harris an off-ramp during a recent interview, refusing to allow her to sidestep a direct question about former President Joe Biden and his obvious physical and cognitive decline.

&#8220;Now, I&#8217;m — forgive me — want to interrupt you — because that is a world-class pivot, but it is not the question that I asked you, which is about Joe Biden&#8217;s failure to recognize his own frailties and what that did to you,&#8221; Ferguson cut in and put a stop to Harris&#8217; ramble. &#8220;The question is about Joe Biden. Are you still reluctant to criticize the former president?&#8221;
&#8220;In what regard, please?&#8221; Harris asked.
&#8220;Just in terms of that question,&#8221; Ferguson repeated.
&#8220;What exactly would you like to ask? Be more specific, if you don&#8217;t mind,&#8221; Harris said.
Slowing her speech markedly, Ferguson asked again, &#8220;Was it Joe Biden&#8217;s decision, his failure to recognize his own frailties in that position, that put you in the position that made it almost impossible to win that race?&#8221;
&#8220;He was not frail as President of the United States,&#8221; Harris insisted.
&#8220;But he had frailties. We all saw the debate,&#8221; Ferguson pressed.
Harris hesitated briefly before replying, &#8220;I do believe that Joe Biden had the capacity to be President of the United States, and I have never doubted that he had the capacity to be President of the United States. If you want to talk about whether he had the ability to endure what a race for President of the United States would require in that political environment in 2024, as I have said in the book, I had concerns.&#8221;
Ferguson tried one more time to get a straight answer from Harris: &#8220;Yes, but I&#8217;m just wondering is there a reason why you won&#8217;t go to that prolonged frailty question?&#8221;

Much like the media talking heads and elected Democrats who waited until former President Joe Biden was well clear of political risk before they admitted he was not in top form, a number of those in his inner circle kept mum on the subject until President Donald Trump had returned to the White House.
In closed door testimony before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, more than a dozen former Biden aides fielded the usual questions that follow any political scandal or cover-up: Who knew what? And when did they know it?
The Oversight Committee released a report on Tuesday on Biden&#8217;s &#8220;autopen presidency&#8217; — which sought to determine what decisions were made directly by President Biden and how many times might the autopen have been used to sign his name without his understanding of the issue or his knowledge that it was even happening. In pursuit of that information, they heard from 14 former Biden aides — some of whom took the fifth, and some of whom revealed the concerns they had previously left unspoken.
As The Daily Wire previously reported, a few revealed that despite making the rounds on the cable news shows in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/aide-defended-bidens-mental-capacity-dozens-of-times-heres-how-many-times-he-met-with-biden">Biden&#8217;s defense</a>, they had rarely spoken to the president, much less seen him in person.
Biden&#8217;s White House Chief of Staff Jeff Zients told Oversight that the president increasingly forgot names — even names of people he saw regularly, as his presidency progressed. He also recalled working to &#8220;reduce the number of steps&#8221; Biden would take in order to decrease the risk that he might fall.
Months prior to Biden&#8217;s exit from the presidential race, in early 2024, Zients had referred to Biden as &#8220;energized&#8221; and voiced his confidence in a successful reelection campaign.
Senior Communications Advisor Anita Dunn defended Biden even after his disastrous debate appearance on CNN, telling MSNBC that &#8220;it wasn&#8217;t his greatest debate,&#8221; but insisting that Biden &#8220;has been a great president, and that is the case he is going to take to the American people.&#8221;
But behind closed doors — and after Biden had stepped away from the public eye — Dunn told members of the committee, &#8220;I thought his voice was softer and that his childhood stutter reappeared.&#8221;

Biden&#8217;s former Chief of Staff Ron Klain revealed the <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hnFD4sWPRE">exact moment</a> during the CNN debate that he&#8217;d exclaimed, &#8220;We&#8217;re f***ed!&#8221;: Biden had given a lengthy and nonsensical answer to a question, and had ended his ramble with the phrase, &#8220;We beat Medicare.&#8221;

Just a few months earlier, Klain had been on MSNBC and <a href="https://freebeacon.com/democrats/now-it-can-be-told-biden-insiders-who-publicly-praised-his-fitness-sang-a-different-tune-in-closed-door-testimony/">had insisted</a> that Biden continued to be &#8220;great in meetings in the White House.&#8221;
Mike Donilon, a senior campaign strategist, admitted to Oversight that he had been part of the White House&#8217;s and the campaign&#8217;s efforts to limit Biden&#8217;s travel and activities, saying at one point that it was &#8220;a lot to ask&#8221; to have the president fly from Europe to Los Angeles.
But at an <a href="https://www.thecrimson.com/article/2025/2/14/iop-donilon-biden-democrat/">event at Harvard</a> in February of 2025 — even after Biden had left the White House — Donilon continued to defend him. &#8220;I don’t know how much time any of those people spent with him—I know how much time I spent with him,&#8221; Donilon said at the time. &#8220;I know what I saw. What I can tell you is every time I saw Biden overseas, especially in Ukraine and NATO, he was the voice in the room.&#8221;

O&#8217;Connor, when questioned, repeatedly invoked his Fifth Amendment rights against self-incrimination.

CNN&#8217;s chief data analyst delivered bad news to climate alarmists all across the United States on Wednesday, saying that polling indicates very few Americans view the potential threat of climate change as a major issue going into the 2026 midterm elections.

On the heels of a comment from Berman about billionaire Bill Gates — who has been at the forefront of the climate conversation — Enten observed that even with prominent messengers, the climate alarmist narrative has not really resonated.
&#8220;Yeah, I think a lot of people will agree with Bill Gates that maybe this wouldn’t be the end of humanity,&#8221; he said of the Microsoft creator&#8217;s <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/bill-gates-walks-back-climate-doom-it-will-not-lead-to-humanitys-demise">recent pivot</a>.

&#8220;What are we talking about? Greatly worried about climate change. You go all the way back to 1989, it was 35%. 2000, 40%.  2020, 46%. And in 2025, look at that, it’s 40%,&#8221; Enten added, noting the recent drop off. &#8220;The same number as we had 25 years ago, back in 2000, and then only just five points higher than we had back in 1989. Really, we’ve just seen consistency on this issue.&#8221;
&#8220;The bottom line is that the climate change message that folks who, of course, believe that climate change is real and is quite worrisome, simply put, has not really worked with the American people,&#8221; he concluded, noting that just two percent of Americans believed climate change was a &#8220;top issue&#8221; facing the United States.

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) says he was not among the Republicans targeted and tracked by former President Joe Biden&#8217;s FBI — and he claimed during a recent podcast episode that it was largely thanks to his wireless service provider, AT&amp;T.
Cruz was responding to recent reporting on an operation code-named Arctic Frost that the Biden administration used to spy on a number of conservatives and even elected Republicans, including many of Cruz&#8217;s current colleagues in the U.S. Senate.
Senator Chuck Grassley released a list of senators who had been targeted through Arctic Frost early in October, naming Republican Sens. Josh Hawley (MO), Marsha Blackburn (TN), Lindsey Graham (SC), and Tommy Tuberville (AL), among others — but Cruz&#8217;s name did not appear on the list.

Cruz explained on the October 22 episode of &#8220;<a href="https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/verdict-with-ted-cruz/id1495601614?i=1000732943212">The Verdict</a>&#8221; that he was one of nine whose phone records were subpoenaed by Biden&#8217;s Justice Department in an effort to investigate the January 6th riot on Capitol Hill — but that AT&amp;T had refused to turn over his information. The DOJ reportedly received information on the other senators from Verizon.
&#8220;All nine of them had their cellphone records handed over to the Biden Department of Justice,&#8221; Cruz said. &#8220;Now, I gotta admit just over a week ago, Sean Hannity was in town and I had dinner with Sean and with several of the senators on that list as well — and I was laughing with Sean, I was actually kind of offended. Like how did I get left out of this list?&#8221;
The Texas senator laughed, adding, &#8220;What did I have to do? I was literally standing on the Senate floor on January 6 objecting and leading the fight, and I had brought together 11 senators to stand together and fight for an election commission to assess the evidence of voter fraud &#8230; I was joking with Sean, but I wasn&#8217;t entirely joking.&#8221;
Cruz said the reason he had initially been left out was soon clear: &#8220;Well, it turns out the reason that I was not on the list, is apparently all eight of those senators, their cellphones are with Verizon — and evidence had come out that Verizon had handed over their cellphone information. Well, my cellphone is with AT&amp;T, and I didn&#8217;t know it at the time, but I found out late last week that Jack Smith sent a subpoena to AT&amp;T demanding my cellphone records, and AT&amp;T told him to go jump in a lake.&#8221;
AT&amp;T, Cruz explained, refused to give up the information: &#8220;I&#8217;m proud of them. They did the right thing, I appreciate that.&#8221;

When asked whether she thought the ongoing government shutdown was likely to end any time soon, Crockett attempted to make it look like President Donald Trump was going out of his way to prioritize other things.
&#8220;The president has time to do everything but what he needs to focus on. In fact, we heard the press secretary say his main priority is the ballroom — the ballroom that no one asked for. The ballroom that requires him to destroy historic pieces of the White House. And so it doesn’t seem like he’s interested [in the shutdown],&#8221; Crockett claimed.

Collins pushed back immediately, noting that Leavitt had said the ballroom was the president&#8217;s top priority — but that she had been specifically referring to construction and renovation projects at the White House.

&#8220;So I think my question is this, I mean, I take your point about these millions of people, the cost of living is incredibly high, but also Republicans control the White House, they control the Senate, they control the House, and in the past, Democrats, when Republicans have tried to do something like this, Democrats have argued that the norms of our government should be that you negotiate policy outside of a government shutdown,&#8221; Hunt confronted Gallego right from the start. &#8220;I mean, over many years covering Washington, people have said that over and over and over again.&#8221;
&#8220;Now I have neighbors in the D.C. area who are both employed by the federal government who are having to use food banks. We are heading into Thanksgiving. Why is it suddenly right to do it this way and to do it for this long when it didn’t used to be the right way in Democrats&#8217; view?&#8221; Hunt asked directly.
&#8220;Oh, that’s an easy answer. It’s Donald Trump,&#8221; Gallego replied, spinning quickly to change the topic. &#8220;You’re talking about norms in the time of Donald Trump? It’s also normal not for you to tear down the East Wing.&#8221;
Hunt did not budge: &#8220;Right, but Democrats have spent so much time arguing about how maintaining those norms is actually incredibly important in the face of Donald Trump.&#8221;
&#8220;It doesn’t. It’s all out the window. It is all out of the window, Kasie,&#8221; Gallego insisted, arguing that because he and Democrats did not like what Trump was doing, they were justified in breaking rules in order to level the playing field. &#8220;No. When you’re doing this time with Donald Trump, this is the man that is extorting people. He’s literally breaking every rule. We’re not going to go back and play by the norms when we know that&#8217;s what’s on the line. What’s on the line is 24 million people are going to have their insurance rates premiums doubled. That’s a new thing, by the way. And the fact is the president and everyone expects us to play by these old norms.&#8221;
&#8220;But didn’t Democrats kind of set that up in the bill that you passed, though, that these subsidies were going to expire?&#8221; Hunt was clearly not convinced.
Gallego admitted that Hunt was, in fact, correct — but once again attempted to spin, blaming Republicans for not wanting to pony up billions of taxpayer dollars to fund endless subsidies, all just to rescue the Affordable Care Act they hadn&#8217;t supported in the first place.
&#8220;When we passed the bills and back in the day, as part of the Inflation Reduction Act, of course we were trying to maybe hope for the best that this country and our Republican colleagues would understand that raising insurance rates on people is a bad thing. I’m sorry they don’t see it that way, but it’s also not my job to make their job easier,&#8221; he said. &#8220;My job is to make sure that the premiums of 24 million Americans does not double overnight. And if it makes it harder on the Republicans that we’re putting them in a very difficult position, then they have to answer for that &#8230; But I’m not gonna abide by old norms, especially when you’re dealing with this presidency, this administration, and how the Republicans themselves have been acting.&#8221;

&#8220;One thing that might end a shutdown is political pain, if parties start to feel that it’s hurting them. So let’s talk about that, starting with Republicans. How has the shutdown seemed to have affected their political standing?&#8221; Berman prompted.
&#8220;Yeah, you might think, given that the Republicans are in charge of both the House and the Senate, that a government shutdown might actually hurt the Republican brand. But in fact, it hasn’t!&#8221; Enten replied. &#8220;If anything, it’s been helped a little bit! Take a look here, the shift in net popularity versus pre-shutdown. When we’re looking at the Republican Party overall, that brand, actually up two points. That’s within the margin of error, but clearly it hasn’t dropped. Come over to this side of the screen, look at the net approval ratings for Republicans in Congress. It’s actually up five points since pre-shutdown! So what we’re seeing here is the Republican brand in Congress has actually improved somewhat compared to where we were pre-shutdown, despite the fact that Republicans control. And that’s the math that John Thune and Mike Johnson are looking at is, &#8216;Hey, why should we give in, electorally speaking, when our brand has actually improved a little bit?'&#8221;

Berman pressed for details, asking whether Republicans were only getting more popular with die-hards or were they making gains across other demographics: &#8220;Now we say their position is getting better, with whom?&#8221;
&#8220;It’s rallying the base for sure. Look at this, the net approval rating up 12 points versus pre-shutdown,&#8221; Enten began — but he did not stop there. &#8220;But it’s not just with the base, it’s also with the middle of the electorate. Look at this among independents, it’s up eight points as well! So we’ve got a situation here where Republicans with the shutdown are actually rallying their base, but it’s also something that’s not hurting them with the folks in the middle. If anything, it’s helping them with folks in the middle, and this is the type of math that if you’re Republicans, you like to see, right? Because something could rally the base, but alienate those in the middle, or something could rally those in the middle, but alienate the base.&#8221;
&#8220;But the truth is, we’re not seeing that. What we’re seeing is the Republican brand has actually gotten better among independents and it’s also gotten better among Republicans as well, that Republican brand when it comes to those in Congress,&#8221; Enten added. &#8220;So again, what’s the electoral reason that Republicans would give in at this point?&#8221;
&#8220;And Democrats, of course, they have their eyes on the midterm elections. Yeah, we have elections one week from today, but what Democrats in Congress are mostly focused on are one year and one week from today, from the midterms. So how do Democrats, how are they positioned right now?&#8221; Berman asked.
Enten broke out the worst news, noting that Democrats were actually losing ground as the midterms crept closer. &#8220;You look at this point back when Trump was president the first time around, Democrats were up 11 points. Look at where it is now. Democrats are ahead, but they’re actually only up three points. This is, in fact, the worst position Democrats have been on in a generic ballot at this time in a midterm when there was a Republican president in the last 20 years. And this is no different from pre-shutdown. So Republicans aren’t losing on this metric either. They’ve become more popular, and they’re in a pretty good position for them historically when it comes to the generic congressional ballot.&#8221;
&#8220;This is a concerning number for Democrats, are you saying?&#8221; Berman tried one more time.
&#8220;This is a concerning number for Democrats, because it’s considerably worse than they traditionally do in midterm elections when there’s a Republican president,&#8221; Enten confirmed the worst.
