The &#8220;Quality Learing Center&#8221; in Minneapolis, whose misspelled sign and alleged fraud have put it in the spotlight, was hit with 121 violations from state inspectors in the past four years.
The Daily Wire reviewed public Minnesota <a href="https://licensinglookup.dhs.state.mn.us/Details.aspx?l=1087038">licensing information</a>, which revealed that before the Quality Learning Center faced scrutiny over alleged fraud, the center struggled to abide by state law, even on some of the simplest requirements for daycares. The review showed that the center has been cited for numerous supervision failures and potential dangerous conditions for infants and toddlers.
The 121 violations in four years are extraordinarily high for daycares in Minnesota, as the vast majority of daycares in the state received no violations during their annual licensing review, according to a 2020 government <a href="https://www.lrl.mn.gov/docs/2020/mandated/200311.pdf">report</a>.
The most recent infractions for the Quality Learning Center stem from a licensing review conducted by the state in June, which resulted in 10 violations. Among those violations, the center was cited for failing to complete staff training requirements, and cribs and mattresses did not meet safety requirements.
In December 2022, an inspection of the Quality Learning Center revealed that the daycare did not properly keep children&#8217;s attendance records. The center is now facing questions about whether children are even present in the building on a daily basis after independent journalist Nick Shirley visited the center during the day and found no children.
The center has had issues keeping other records as well, according to the Minnesota government. In 2024, the center received violations on multiple occasions because it did not have children&#8217;s physical exam and immunization documentation. Another citation from March of 2024 stated that children&#8217;s files &#8220;did not contain all required items.&#8221;

Many of the violations since 2022 involved the facility, which was often cited for being in poor condition and dirty. The center was also <a href="https://www.dhs.state.mn.us/main/idcplg?IdcService=GET_DYNAMIC_CONVERSION&amp;RevisionSelectionMethod=LatestReleased&amp;dDocName=LLO_462184">fined</a> $200 at least twice for <a href="https://www.dhs.state.mn.us/main/idcplg?IdcService=GET_DYNAMIC_CONVERSION&amp;RevisionSelectionMethod=LatestReleased&amp;dDocName=LLO_466644">failing</a> to do proper background checks. In October of last year, state inspectors said the center had failed to &#8220;report a death, serious injury, fire or emergency as required.&#8221; For most of the violations, the center submitted &#8220;correction documentation&#8221; that was approved by the state.
The Daily Wire called two different numbers associated with the Quality Learning Center, but both of the lines were busy. The Daily Wire also reached out to the Minnesota Department of Children, Youth, and Families, seeking more information on the violations.
The center, which reportedly received $4 million in state funds, is licensed as a “day program” to serve infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and school-age children. Its license allows it to serve up to 99 children. The license was recently renewed and is good until the end of 2026, according to the Minnesota Department of Human Services.

The New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/12/30/us-news/misspelled-minnesota-day-care-closed-last-week-state-claims-on-same-day-owners-told-the-post-its-up-and-running/">reported</a> that around 20 kids were seen entering the center on Tuesday after getting bused to the facility.
Ali pushed back on Shirley&#8217;s reporting, claiming that it appears to be an attempt to “put out a certain message about a certain group [of people],” adding that the fraud accusations have hurt his business as well as the Somali community.

The manager of the Quality Learning Center facing fraud accusations in Minneapolis responded to the allegations on Tuesday, saying, “There’s no fraud going on whatsoever.”
The center, whose sign is misspelled Quality &#8220;Learing&#8221; Center, has reportedly received $4 million in state funding. But when independent journalist Nick Shirley showed up at the center in a video that went viral last week, there were no children to be found. The learning center&#8217;s manager, Ibrahim Ali, claimed that Shirley showed up too early for any kids to be present since the center operates from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
&#8220;Kids come to us, clients come to us, their parents come to us – they’re here daily, they leave on time, they come on time. There is no fraud going on whatsoever,&#8221; Ali <a href="https://x.com/realDailyWire/status/2006047912896135614">said</a>.
Ali added that the center serves children &#8220;after school hours,&#8221; and has been doing so since 2017. The Quality Learning Center is licensed as a &#8220;day program&#8221; to serve infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and school-age children.
The Quality Learning Center has been hit with <a href="https://licensinglookup.dhs.state.mn.us/Details.aspx?l=1087038">numerous violations</a> by the state, most recently in June for the facility being in poor condition and cribs not meeting safety requirements. Ali refuted claims from Minnesota state regulators that the learning center had recently shut down.

Tikki Brown, the commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Children, Youth, and Families, said at a press conference on Monday that many of the daycare and learning centers that Shirley visited in his video had already shut their doors for good, including the Quality Learning Center. A spokeswoman for the department later clarified that Quality Learning Center “decided to remain open,” <a href="https://www.startribune.com/viral-video-prompts-new-scrutiny-of-alleged-fraud-and-draws-quick-reaction-from-mn-regulators/601554058?utm_source=gift">according</a> to the Minnesota Star Tribune.
&#8220;We haven’t closed. We’ve never closed,&#8221; Ali said. &#8220;There was never a time where kids were told to stop coming. There was never a time we told our employees to stop coming. All that is false information.&#8221;
The daycare manager argued that Shirley&#8217;s reporting was an attempt to &#8220;put out a certain message about a certain group [of people],&#8221; adding the fraud accusations have hurt his business as well as the Somali community.
&#8220;Are you trying to record that we’re doing fraud or are you trying to put the Somali name and the fraud in the same sentence?&#8221; Ali asked. &#8220;That’s what really hurt us the last couple of days.&#8221;
Asked about the misspelled sign, Ali blamed the graphic designer hired by the learning center, the New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/12/29/us-news/quality-learing-daycare-targeted-in-minneapolis-fraud-video-blames-designer-for-typo-as-worker-snaps-at-post-reporter-get-the-f-k-out-of-here/">reported</a>.
“What I understand is [the owners] dealt with a graphic designer. He did it incorrectly. I guess they didn’t think it was a big issue,” he said.

Surveillance footage from a state fraud case prosecuted in 2018 shows that purported daycare centers linked to Somali immigrants in Minnesota were involved in fraud schemes as early as 2015.
Video recorded outside one such facility in the Minneapolis area shows parents entering to drop off their children, only to leave with them minutes later, Fox 9 <a href="https://www.fox9.com/news/charges-video-catches-minneapolis-daycare-financial-fraud">reported</a> in 2015. The 10-year-old news report was shared on social media this week as Minnesota faces more fraud accusations.
Fox 9 reported that in 2015, four purported daycare centers in Minneapolis were accused of billing the government even though children were not present at the facilities. Another video from inside another facility shows a man handing an envelope to what appears to be a parent of Somali descent.

Hennepin County, which includes much of Minneapolis, opened an investigation after the state government identified unusually large billing amounts. Officials placed a camera on a telephone pole outside one of the centers to track how many kids were entering the facility and found that the center had lied about its enrollment numbers.
&#8220;It&#8217;s hard to imagine they were serving that many people. Frankly, if you&#8217;re going to cheat, cheat little, because if you cheat big you&#8217;re going to get caught,&#8221; Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman said at the time.
Four people were taken into custody in 2015 after police searched the alleged fraudulent daycare centers. Two of those arrested, Abdirizak Ahmed Gayre and Ibrahim Awgab Osman, took plea deals and admitted to felony theft, the Daily Mail <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-15421255/Minnesota-daycare-fraud-scandal-deepens.html">reported</a>. As part of the plea deal, the state agreed not to pursue further charges against other defendants.

Minneapolis Daycare Fraud Has Been Going On At Least A Decade, And There’s Video To Prove It

The 30-year-old man accused of planting pipe bombs outside of the Democratic and Republican Party headquarters in Washington, D.C., on the night of January 5, 2021, told investigators that he wanted someone to &#8220;speak up&#8221; about the 2020 election being stolen, according to the Department of Justice.
Prosecutors said on Sunday that Brian Cole Jr. gave a &#8220;detailed confession&#8221; about planting the pipe bombs and revealed that he didn&#8217;t &#8220;like either party at this point,&#8221; according to a DOJ memo, The Hill <a href="https://thehill.com/regulation/court-battles/5665154-capitol-riot-pipe-bombs-suspect-confession-justice-department/">reported</a>. Cole allegedly said that he was not a political person, but after Joe Biden&#8217;s win over President Donald Trump in 2020, he began following the news more closely, especially on YouTube and Reddit. Cole said that he believed &#8220;something was wrong&#8221; with the 2020 election and people felt &#8220;that their votes are like just being thrown away,&#8221; and someone needed to &#8220;speak up,&#8221; prosecutors said.
Federal prosecutors argued that Cole should remain detained as the case proceeds. Cole allegedly told investigators that he had no intention of killing or injuring anyone with the pipe bombs, which is why he said he placed them at night. Cole said that he was &#8220;pretty relieved&#8221; when he learned that the bombs never went off after he set them to detonate one hour after he placed them, according to the DOJ. Prosecutors, however, argued that Cole&#8217;s alleged actions put people at risk regardless of whether he intended to harm anyone.
“Indeed, the defendant admitted that he set both devices to detonate 60 minutes after he placed them,” the DOJ memo stated. “His failure to accomplish his objectives does not mitigate the profoundly dangerous nature of his crimes.”

He allegedly confessed to investigators shortly after his arrest and expressed support for Trump, as was previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/d-c-pipe-bomb-suspect-reportedly-confesses-to-investigators">reported</a>. However, questions remain about whether Cole allegedly planted the bombs in response to Trump&#8217;s 2020 election loss, as the charging documents state that he purchased the materials for the bombs as early as May 2019, long before the controversy surrounding the 2020 election erupted. Cole has also expressed anarchist views, according to some reports.
The Daily Wire reported earlier this month that Cole was employed by a bail bonds company run by his father, which worked to free illegal immigrants from ICE facilities and sued the Trump administration’s Department of Homeland Security.
Cole, of Woodbridge, Virginia, was arrested earlier this month after investigators reviewed thousands of purchases, cell phone data, and license plates.

D.C. Pipe Bomb Suspect Shed Light On His Motive In Interviews With Investigators, DOJ Says

Transcripts and audio from the October 24 hearing for suspected Charlie Kirk assassin Tyler Robinson will be made public after a Monday ruling from the Utah judge overseeing the murder case.
District Court Judge Tony Graf gave the court until the end of the day to release the transcript from a brief closed-door hearing that focused on whether Robinson, 22, could remain in civilian clothing and unshackled for the trial. The audio from the hearing must be released within two weeks. Graf added that 246 words, which amounts to one page of the 80-page transcript, would be redacted, NBC News <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/transcript-audio-closed-door-hearing-alleged-charlie-kirk-shooter-case-rcna251368">reported</a>.
Robinson was present for Monday&#8217;s hearing virtually and did not appear on screen. He was heard saying, &#8220;Yes, your honor,” when the judge asked if he was present, the New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/12/29/us-news/charlie-kirk-suspect-tyler-robinsons-secret-hearings-to-be-made-public-after-judges-order/">reported</a>.
The ruling is another win for reporters in the pretrial arguments, as media outlets have pushed for full transparency in the case. Monday&#8217;s decision follows a separate ruling earlier this month from Graf to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/cameras-allowed-in-court-for-trial-of-accused-charlie-kirk-assassin-judge-rules">allow cameras</a> in the courtroom during the trial. Kirk&#8217;s widow, Erika — along with members of the media — has pushed for the trial to be made as public as possible, while Robinson&#8217;s defense team has argued that wall-to-wall coverage could taint the jury pool.

Attorneys for local and national media outlets argued in a motion earlier this month that &#8220;every high-profile criminal prosecution has significant pretrial publicity, no matter where it occurs&#8221; and that the First Amendment guarantees the media access to the courts doing &#8220;the public&#8217;s business,&#8221; according to NBC News.

In the October 24 closed-door hearing, Graf said that Robinson could wear civilian clothing for the trial, but added that the suspected assassin would have to be restrained in court. In his first virtual court appearance after his arrest, Robinson was in a suicide vest. He was also placed on &#8220;special watch&#8221; in jail after reportedly telling his parents that he would rather kill himself than turn himself over to law enforcement.
Robinson faces numerous charges, including seven felony charges of aggravated murder in the killing of Kirk, a 31-year-old husband and father of two, on September 10 at Utah Valley University. He&#8217;s accused of killing Kirk with a single shot from a bolt-action rifle while the conservative commentator spoke to a large group of students. Robinson <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/US/tyler-robinson-set-face-formal-charges-shooting-death/story?id=125614396">told</a> his parents that he killed Kirk because he believed Kirk &#8220;spread too much hate,&#8221; according to charging documents. The suspected assassin could face a firing squad if he&#8217;s convicted of the aggravated murder charge.
Robinson is due back in court on January 16 for a major hearing on a motion to disqualify the Utah County Attorney&#8217;s Office from prosecuting the case over an alleged conflict of interest. Robinson&#8217;s defense team argues that a family member of a Utah County prosecutor was present at Utah Valley University when Kirk was assassinated.

FBI Director Kash Patel <a href="https://x.com/FBIDirectorKash/status/2005305530651189719">said</a> on Sunday that the bureau had already “surged personnel and investigative resources to Minnesota to dismantle large-scale fraud schemes exploiting federal programs” before the issue gained traction on social media last week.
Patel pointed to the FBI’s role in uncovering the Feeding Our Future fraud scheme, which received government funding to provide meals to hungry children during the COVID pandemic but allegedly never distributed food. The Feeding Our Future investigation was closed before Patel became the FBI director. The vast majority of the people charged and convicted were of Somali descent.
&#8220;The FBI believes this is just the tip of a very large iceberg. We will continue to follow the money and protect children, and this investigation very much remains ongoing,&#8221; Patel added.

The recent revelations from Shirley have refocused attention on Minnesota and its Democratic governor, Tim Walz, who has been the subject of frequent criticism from President Donald Trump this year. President Donald Trump talked to Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday, a day after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with Trump at Mar-a-Lago, as the United States seeks to finally bring an end to the Ukraine-Russia war.
Trump&#8217;s discussion with Putin on Monday was &#8220;positive,&#8221; <a href="https://x.com/PressSec/status/2005668576771051870">according</a> to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, who did not reveal any details of the phone call. Trump also <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/115798213364038844">said</a> he spoke to Putin in a &#8220;productive telephone call&#8221; just prior to his meeting with Zelensky on Sunday.
During a press conference alongside Zelensky following their meeting, Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-peace-deal-in-ukraine-is-closer-than-ever-save-a-few-thorny-issues">said</a> that he believes a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia is &#8220;closer than ever,&#8221; adding, “In a few weeks, we will know one way or the other.” Zelensky added that Ukrainian negotiators have agreed to about 90% of Trump&#8217;s 20-point peace plan, while Trump said Ukraine agreed to 95% of it. Trump proposed a 28-point peace plan last month, but it was reduced to 20 points during negotiations.
“Our meeting was excellent, we covered — somebody would say 95 percent, I don’t know what percent — but we have made a lot of progress on ending that war,” Trump said on Sunday.
While Trump remains optimistic about the peace negotiations, Putin has shown no signs of slowing down his campaign to take over Ukraine.
Russia continued to pummel Ukraine with missiles and drones over the weekend, just ahead of Trump&#8217;s meeting with Zelensky. Kyiv, along with other parts of Ukraine, was targeted with hundreds of missiles and drones on Saturday. At least two people were killed, and 46 others were wounded in the attacks, Reuters <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/russian-drones-missiles-pound-ukraine-before-zelenskiy-trump-meeting-2025-12-27/">reported</a>. Zelensky argued that Russia’s aggression was a direct response by Putin to Ukraine’s negotiations with Trump.

&#8220;Today, Russia demonstrated how it responds to peaceful negotiations between Ukraine and the United States to end Russia&#8217;s war against Ukraine,&#8221; Zelensky said on Saturday.
Russia also accused Ukraine of targeting a presidential residence in a drone attack that was thwarted by Russian defenses. Zelensky denied the accusation, calling it a &#8220;new lie&#8221; from Moscow.
Russia has signaled that it does not agree with some of Trump&#8217;s peace plan, including how large Ukraine&#8217;s military would remain under the conditions, Bloomberg <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-12-29/trump-putin-held-positive-call-on-ukraine-white-house-says">reported</a>. Another major sticking point in the negotiations is Ukraine’s Donbas region, which is largely under Russian control despite continued fighting by Ukrainian troops.
Zelensky, meanwhile, said on Monday that he wants security guarantees from the United States to last up to 50 years if he agrees to the peace deal. Under the current proposal, the United States and Europe would provide security guarantees for 15 years, with the possibility for an extension.
“I would like the guarantee to be much longer,” Zelensky said. “We would like to consider the possibility of 30, 40, 50 years and then it will be a historic decision by Trump.”

Independent journalist Nick Shirley, whose recent viral video pulled back the curtain on tens of millions of dollars in alleged fraud in Minnesota, said the scheme was so obvious that &#8220;a kindergartner&#8221; could have put the pieces together.
During an <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/video/6387013496112">appearance</a> on &#8220;The Big Weekend Show&#8221; on Fox News, Shirley described how he found suspicious daycare and learning centers in the Minneapolis area that appear to be fronts for massive scams. Shirley&#8217;s <a href="https://x.com/nickshirleyy/status/2004642794862961123">video</a>, which has been reposted over 200,000 times on X, shows him visiting multiple government-funded daycares that seemed to have no children present.
&#8220;It&#8217;s so obvious,&#8221; Shirley said of the apparent fraud. &#8220;If you&#8217;re living in Minnesota, you have to raise your eyebrows and think, &#8216;What&#8217;s going on?&#8217; Literally, if you drive around Minneapolis, you&#8217;ll see daycare centers, autism centers — you will then see transportation companies that have snow piled up as if they haven&#8217;t moved it in months,&#8221; Shirley said.
&#8220;A kindergartner could&#8217;ve figured out there was fraud going on,&#8221; he added.
In his 42-minute video report, Shirley talks to a Minnesota resident identified only as &#8220;David,&#8221; who has been investigating the alleged fraud for years. David told Shirley that he first became suspicious when he noticed multiple daycare centers near his office with no children. David said he also noticed that he often saw Somali drivers from non-emergency medical transportation companies driving vans without passengers. He added that he found there are 1,020 non-emergency medical transportation companies in the state, and more than 800 of them are Somali-owned.

Shirley, 23, said the people who supposedly worked at some of the daycare centers &#8220;could not answer the most simple questions,&#8221; such as where the children were or why their windows were blacked out. In one instance, Shirley and David ask two Somali women outside of a daycare center where the children are, and one of the women replies, &#8220;It&#8217;s not your business.&#8221;
Shirley&#8217;s video uncovers numerous examples of suspicious activity in the Minneapolis area shortly after a federal prosecutor said that, during Minnesota Democratic Governor Tim Walz&#8217;s tenure, there has been at least $9 billion in fraud in the state. First Assistant U.S. Attorney Joe Thompson <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/minnesota/news/billions-paid-out-by-medicaid-in-minnesota-may-be-fraudulent-us-attorney/">revealed</a> earlier this month that 14 Medicaid services in Minnesota are at &#8220;high risk&#8221; for fraud.
The massive fraud scandal has already resulted in dozens of convictions and has involved many people from Minneapolis&#8217;s large Somali community. One accused Somali fraudster was still being paid by the Minnesota government to run assisted living homes, even as he awaited his trial for his alleged role in helping run a fraudulent charity, The Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/minnesota-is-currently-paying-an-indicted-somali-fraudster-to-run-assisted-living-homes">reported</a> earlier this month.

&#8220;We are not losing a single day. We have agreed on a meeting at the highest level – with President Trump in the near future. A lot can be decided before the New Year. Glory to Ukraine!&#8221; said Zelensky.
The meeting signals that the Trump administration remains optimistic that an agreement could be close. Zelensky spoke over the phone with Trump&#8217;s special envoy Steve Witkoff and the president&#8217;s son-in-law Jared Kushner on Christmas Day, with a U.S. official saying that the administration has &#8220;made more progress in the last two weeks than the last year.&#8221;
After his call with Witkoff and Kushner, Zelensky said he was hopeful that the &#8220;Christmas understandings and the ideas we discussed will prove useful.&#8221;

The Trump administration recently proposed a 28-point peace plan in another effort to bring an end to the war that is nearing the four-year mark. Zelensky has suggested that Ukraine agrees with some of the details of the plan, while adding that he wants to negotiate on other points. Under the plan, the Ukraine would agree to withdraw its troops from some of the disputed areas in Eastern Ukraine, which would become a demilitarized &#8220;free economic zone.&#8221; In return, the United States and Europe would give Ukraine security guarantees.
Russia, however, seems intent on taking control of all of the Donbas region. Another point of the peace proposal that has caused negotiations to stall is who will control of Ukraine&#8217;s Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.

The areas likely to see the most snow are southeastern New York and northeastern Pennsylvania, which are slated to get between 6 and 12 inches.
“This fast-moving storm will pack a punch in the Northeast right after Christmas. Holiday travelers should prepare for major slowdowns on roads and at airports,&#8221; said AccuWeather&#8217;s Senior Meteorologist, Tyler Roys.
Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and Baltimore could also see a snow-rain mix.
Much of Michigan and Wisconsin are forecasted to get a snow-ice mix between Thursday and Saturday, with parts of eastern and mid-Michigan forecasted to get hit with a severe ice storm on Friday. The storm is expected to be New York City&#8217;s biggest snowfall of the year so far — between 3 and 6 inches — potentially causing travel disruptions for millions of people. ABC News <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/US/holiday-weather-forecast-white-christmas/story?id=128615555">reported</a> that travelers should expect &#8220;treacherous commutes&#8221; on I-80, I-70, I-90, and I-95.
Southern California was hit with heavy rain on Wednesday, with the stormy weather expected to stick around until Friday, ABC 7 Los Angeles <a href="https://abc7.com/live-updates/southern-california-weather-atmospheric-river-bring-storm-possible-flash-floods-region/18307242/">reported</a>. The storm has sparked flood warnings, concerns about potential mudslides, and at least one tornado warning on Wednesday. The tornado warning, which was issued for parts of east-central Los Angeles County, was canceled at 10:40 a.m. local time, but the National Weather Service said that damaging winds would continue throughout the day.
The storm is expected to dump several inches on Southern California, and thousands of customers lost power on Wednesday.

The State Department sanctioned five European figures in the &#8220;global censorship-industrial complex&#8221; on Tuesday, barring them from entering the United States.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the move is in response to European &#8220;ideologues&#8221; who have sought to clamp down on Americans&#8217; free speech. He added that the list could be expanded to other European leaders if they continue their censorship actions.
&#8220;For far too long, ideologues in Europe have led organized efforts to coerce American platforms to punish American viewpoints they oppose. The Trump Administration will no longer tolerate these egregious acts of extraterritorial censorship,&#8221; Rubio <a href="https://x.com/SecRubio/status/2003547575580815814">said</a>. &#8220;Today, @StateDept will take steps to bar leading figures of the global censorship-industrial complex from entering the United States. We stand ready and willing to expand this list if others do not reverse course.&#8221;
The sanctions do not include financial penalties, but the five individuals targeted have had their U.S. visas denied. They are European Union Commissioner Thierry Breton, a Frenchman; Imran Ahmed, a British chief executive of the Center for Countering Digital Hate; British businesswoman Clare Melford, who leads the Global Disinformation Index; and Josephine Ballon and Anna-Lena von Hodenberg, who both lead the German group HateAid.
Breton helped create the European Commission&#8217;s Digital Services Act, which establishes regulations requiring social media companies to prevent what the European Union deems illegal content and misinformation. The Digital Services Act was recently used to punish Elon Musk&#8217;s X, a move condemned by the Trump administration.
Ahmed&#8217;s Center for Countering Digital Hate has been accused of colluding with the Biden administration and social media companies to censor Americans, especially during the COVID pandemic. The Biden administration referred to the British nonprofit&#8217;s &#8220;disinformation dozen&#8221; list, which called out 12 accounts on Facebook that it accused of producing 65% of anti-vaccine &#8220;misinformation&#8221; on the platform, The New York Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2021/07/16/us/politics/biden-facebook-social-media-covid.html">reported</a>. One of those 12 accounts belonged to Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who is now President Donald Trump&#8217;s Health and Human Services secretary, <a href="https://x.com/UnderSecPD/status/2003567950541058394">according</a> to Under Secretary of State Sarah B. Rogers.
The Global Disinformation Index, led by Melford, was funded through a program used by the Biden administration to target &#8220;misinformation&#8221; until Rubio shuttered it earlier this year. It placed American media outlets on a “Dynamic Exclusion List” that was distributed to advertisers and named mainstream publications like the New York Post, Reason Magazine, The Daily Wire, and the Federalist as &#8220;risky,&#8221; The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/state-department-shutters-misinformation-censorship-agency-salts-the-earth">reported</a>. The Daily Wire has an active lawsuit against the State Department, alleging that it suppressed conservative media outlets on social media under former President Joe Biden.

Ballon and Hodenberg&#8217;s HateAid is considered a &#8220;trusted&#8221; censor under the Digital Services Act and has routinely targeted Right-wing voices, according to the State Department. Earlier this year, Ballon was interviewed on &#8220;<a href="https://x.com/60Minutes/status/1891284163845628348">60 Minutes</a>&#8221; and said, &#8220;Free speech needs boundaries … Without boundaries, a very small group of people can rely on endless freedom to say anything that they want, while everyone else is scared and intimidated.&#8221;
French President Emmanuel Macron <a href="https://x.com/EmmanuelMacron/status/2003781877165879782">condemned</a> the United States over the travel bans, saying, &#8220;These measures amount to intimidation and coercion aimed at undermining European digital sovereignty.&#8221;
Trump and Rubio have recently called out Europe over its social media censorship and its targeting of American social media companies. Rubio <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/rubio-issues-stark-warning-about-europes-free-speech-erosion-and-how-it-could-affect-americans">told</a> The Daily Wire last week that he is “concerned” that “freedom of expression” is “eroding” in Europe.
“Are we going to live in a world where some American puts up a social media post and then gets to some airport somewhere and is arrested? We’re also concerned about the impact that some of their policies are having on our social media platforms,” he said.
Trump, meanwhile, issued a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/europe-has-to-be-very-careful-trump-issues-stern-warning-after-eu-fines-elon-musks-x">warning</a> to Europe after the European Commission fined X earlier this month.

In a five-point memo sent to CBS News staff on Sunday, Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss laid out each of her reasons for <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/cbs-news-pulls-60-minutes-segment-on-notorious-el-salvador-prison-needed-additional-reporting">postponing</a> a &#8220;60 Minutes&#8221; segment on the Salvadoran prison where the Trump administration has sent hundreds of illegal immigrants.
Weiss prevented the segment on El Salvador&#8217;s CECOT prison from airing on Sunday over concerns that the piece lacked important information, such as &#8220;the Trump administration&#8217;s argument for why it sent 252 Venezuelans to CECOT.&#8221;
The segment, spearheaded by CBS News journalist Sharyn Alfonsi, focused on interviews with some of the illegal immigrants who were sent to CECOT and have since been released. After Weiss pulled the story from Sunday&#8217;s lineup, Alfonsi claimed that it was for &#8220;political&#8221; reasons, arguing that if they hold a story because the government has not commented on it, they are becoming a “stenographer for the state.”
Weiss, however, argued that the segment did not attempt to go deep enough to present its viewers &#8220;with the full context they need to assess the story.&#8221; In the first point her <a href="https://x.com/thesimonetti/status/2003142908854313225">memo</a>, Weiss argued that other legacy media networks had already extensively covered the &#8220;horrific conditions&#8221; at the Salvadoran prison and CBS News needed to do more to &#8220;advance&#8221; the story to justify a &#8220;60 Minutes&#8221; segment.
&#8220;Last month, many outlets, most notably The New York Times, exposed the horrific conditions at CECOT. Our story presents more of these powerful testimonies—and putting those accounts into the public record is valuable in and of itself,&#8221; Weiss said in her memo. &#8220;But if we’re going to run another story about a topic that has by now been much-covered, we need to advance it. Among the ways to do so: does anyone in the administration or anyone prominent who defended the use of the Alien Enemies Act now regret it in light of what these Venezuelans endured at CECOT? That’s a question I’d like to see asked and answered.&#8221;
The segment reportedly focused on highlighting the “brutal and torturous conditions” endured by those sent to CECOT. Despite CBS News pulling the segment domestically, it aired briefly in Canada and then was shared online.
Weiss urged &#8220;60 Minutes&#8221; producers to &#8220;push harder&#8221; to set up interviews Trump administration officials, such as adviser Stephen Miller and border czar Tom Homan.
&#8220;At present, we do not present the administration’s argument for why it sent 252 Venezuelans to CECOT. What we have is Karoline Leavitt’s soundbite claiming they are evildoers in America (rapists, murderers, etc.). In her third point, Weiss criticized one of the angles of the &#8220;60 Minutes&#8221; segment, arguing that it focuses too much on the illegal immigrants sent to CECOT who do not have criminal histories and not enough on the violent criminals who have been removed from America.
&#8220;The data we present paints an incongruent picture. Of the 252 Venezuelans sent to CECOT, we say nearly half have no criminal histories. In other words, more than half do have criminal histories. We should spend a beat explaining this,&#8221; Weiss said. &#8220;We then say that only 8 of the 252 have been sentenced in America for violent offenses. But what about charged? My point is that we should include as much as we can possibly know and understand about these individuals.&#8221;
Weiss also blasted the producers&#8217; decision to include analysis from students at the University of California, Berkeley, asking, &#8220;What does the analysis add?&#8221;
Weiss concluded by telling the staff that CBS News should better explain &#8220;the legal rationale by which the administration detained and deported these 252 Venezuelans to CECOT.&#8221;
&#8220;It’s not as simple as Trump invoking the Alien Enemies Act and being able to deport them immediately. And that isn’t the administration’s argument. The admin has argued in court that detainees are due &#8216;judicial review&#8217;—and we should explain this, with a voice arguing that Trump is exceeding his authority under the relevant statute, and another arguing that he’s operating within the bounds of his authority,&#8221; Weiss argued. &#8220;There’s a genuine debate here.&#8221;
