President Donald Trump signed an order on Friday, changing the name of the Department of Defense back to the Department of War, arguing that the rebrand marks an important change in America&#8217;s view of foreign conflict.
Trump and renamed Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said in the Oval Office that the rebrand points back to an era in American history when U.S. forces focused on decisive victory. The War Department was established in 1789 after America won the War for Independence, but the name changed to the Department of Defense in 1949, following decades of victories, including in World War I and World War II.
Trump said that the change to Defense Department was evidence of the United States going &#8220;woke.&#8221;

Secretary of War Hegseth said that the United States has &#8220;not won a major war since&#8221; the Department of War changed to the Department of Defense.
&#8220;And that&#8217;s not to disparage our war fighters who, whether it&#8217;s the Korean War, the Vietnam War, or our generation of Iraq and Afghanistan,&#8221; Hegseth added. &#8220;That&#8217;s to recognize that this name change is not just about renaming — it&#8217;s about restoring. CBS News announced on Friday that it is changing its policy on interviews with top government officials on “Face the Nation” after Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/cbs-news-shamefully-edited-interview-to-whitewash-kilmar-abrego-garcias-background-noem-says">blasted</a> the network for “shamefully” editing comments she made on last Sunday’s show.
CBS News initially defended its edits to the Noem interview, arguing that it “met all CBS News standards” and adding that the full interview and transcript were available online. On Friday, however, CBS News backtracked, saying that based on “audience feedback over the past week,” the network will “implement a new policy for greater transparency in our interviews,” The Hill <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/media/5488422-cbs-face-the-nation-changes-kristi-noem-dhs/">reported</a>.
“FACE THE NATION will now only broadcast live or live-to-tape interviews (subject to national security or legal restrictions),” CBS News said. “This extra measure means the television audience will see the full, unedited interview on CBS and we will continue our practice of posting full transcripts and the unedited video online.”
The network got into hot water after its edits to the Noem interview cut the Homeland Security secretary’s response short by 30 seconds when she was discussing the allegations against Kilmar Abrego Garcia, an illegal alien at the center of a high-profile U.S. immigration case, The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/cbs-news-shamefully-edited-interview-to-whitewash-kilmar-abrego-garcias-background-noem-says">reported</a>. The part of Noem’s comments that CBS News cut out of the version that it aired on “Face The Nation” included Noem saying that Abrego Garcia “was a known human smuggler, an MS-13 gang member, an individual who was a wife beater, and someone who was so perverted that he solicited nude photos from minors.”

The U.S. economy added just 22,000 jobs in August, and the unemployment rate rose to 4.3%, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics report released on Friday.
The BLS report was the first one since President Donald Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-fires-biden-appointed-labor-statistics-boss-after-major-revisions-to-jobs-reports">fired</a> Biden-appointed BLS Commissioner Erika McEntarfer after the bureau made major revisions to its May and June reports, marking down nonfarm payrolls by nearly 260,000. The August numbers were far below economists’ predictions, who expected payrolls to rise by 75,000, CNBC <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2025/09/05/jobs-report-august-2025.html">reported</a>.
While Friday’s report reveals a troubling trend for the job market, it is likely to keep the Federal Reserve on track to lower interest rates at its meeting later this month. The Federal Reserve often lowers interest rates if unemployment is high in an attempt to stimulate economic activity, which can lead to companies hiring more people. Last month, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/fed-chair-jerome-powell-hints-at-possible-rate-cut-wall-street-cheers?author=Zach+Jewell&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Fed+Chair+Jerome+Powell+Hints+At+Possible+Rate+Cut%2C+Wall+Street+Cheers">suggested</a> that central bank policymakers are considering cutting rates.
Shortly after the poor jobs report was released, Trump blasted Powell on his Truth Social platform.

Both the wholesale trade and manufacturing sectors saw declines of 12,000 jobs last month, while the health care sector led all others with 31,000 jobs added. Average hourly earnings rose 0.3%, matching the estimate, and annual earnings gains increased by 3.7%, which was just shy of the 3.8% expectation, according to CNBC.
Daniel Zhao, the chief economist at jobs site Glassdoor, told the outlet, “The labor market is losing lift, and August’s report, along with downward revisions, suggests we’re heading into turbulence without the soft landing achieved.”
Trump ripped McEntarfer last month, accusing the former BLS commissioner of inflating job growth “before the Election to try and boost” the chances of former Vice President Kamala Harris.
“We need accurate Jobs Numbers. I have directed my Team to fire this Biden Political Appointee, IMMEDIATELY. She will be replaced with someone much more competent and qualified,” he said on August 1. “Important numbers like this must be fair and accurate, they can’t be manipulated for political purposes.”
Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-names-his-pick-to-take-charge-of-jobs-data-honest-and-accurate">nominated</a> economist E.J. Antoni to take over the BLS. Antoni is a Heritage Foundation fellow who agrees with Trump that BLS numbers have been distorted for political reasons.
“There are better ways to collect, process, and disseminate data—that is the task for the next BLS commissioner, and only consistent delivery of accurate data in a timely manner will rebuild the trust that has been lost over the last several years,” Antoni posted on X just a few days after Trump fired McEntarfer.

Multiple Big Tech leaders, including some who have opposed President Donald Trump in recent years, joined the president for a White House dinner on Thursday and praised him for his “pro-business, pro-innovation” actions.
Apple CEO Tim Cook and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman both thanked Trump at the presidential dinner that was also attended by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, IBM CEO and Chairman Arvind Krishna, and Oracle CEO Safra Catz.
“I want to thank you for setting the tone such that we could make a major investment in the United States and have some key manufacturing, advanced manufacturing here,” Cook told Trump. “I think that says a lot about your focus and your leadership and your focus on innovation. I also want to thank you for helping American companies around the world. This is a really key thing, and I really enjoy working with your administration on those topics as well.”

President Trump praised the “high IQ” group of tech titans, adding, “The most brilliant people are gathered at this table.”
Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, who recently had a public falling out with Trump, stated that he was also invited to the dinner but was unable to attend.

The FBI took a trove of documents, three computers, and two iPhones from former National Security Adviser John Bolton&#8217;s home during a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/fbi-raids-home-of-former-trump-national-security-adviser-john-bolton?author=Leif+Le+Mahieu&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=FBI+Raids+Home+Of+Former+Trump+National+Security+Adviser+John+Bolton">raid</a> on August 22, according to court records made public on Thursday.
Among the boxes of documents were “typed documents in folders labeled ‘Trump I – IV&#8217;” and a white binder that was labeled, “statements and reflections to allied strikes,” the New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/09/04/us-news/heres-what-fbi-agents-took-from-john-boltons-house-in-raid-and-what-charges-he-could-face/">reported</a>. The FBI raided Bolton&#8217;s home as part of an investigation over allegations that Bolton illegally snuck out national security files from the White House during President Donald Trump&#8217;s first term.
The records also revealed that the former national security adviser, who is now a vocal Trump critic, is being investigated for allegedly violating two sections of the Espionage Act of 1917, according to the Post. While Bolton hasn&#8217;t been charged with any crime, if the feds go after him on those two charges, he could face up to 25 years in prison.
Federal agents also swiped hard drives and USB drives during the raid, and agents were allowed to make Bolton unlock any devices, per the search warrant, CNN <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2025/09/04/politics/bolton-search-fbi-court-documents">reported</a>. According to previous court records, the feds are looking into whether Bolton revealed any sensitive national security information about Trump&#8217;s foreign policy during the president&#8217;s first term. After a back-and-forth with Trump officials, Bolton removed classified information from his book manuscript before he published it, according to court records.
Bolton&#8217;s book, &#8220;The Room Where It Happened: A White House Memoir,&#8221; promises &#8220;the most comprehensive and substantial account of the Trump Administration.&#8221; The book was published in June 2020, less than a year after Trump fired Bolton as National Security Adviser. The Trump administration argued that Bolton&#8217;s book endangered national security.
FBI officials told the Post that an investigation into Bolton&#8217;s handling of sensitive material was paused when former President Joe Biden entered office in 2021, and FBI Director Kash Patel reopened the investigation in February.
“The [Biden administration] had probable cause to know that he had taken material that was detrimental to the national security of the United States, and they made no effort to retrieve it,” a senior FBI official said.
“That was a friendly administration to [Bolton],” the official added. “They kept bashing [Trump] the entire time for ‘weaponizing law enforcement,’ and they — by politically stopping a righteous investigation — are the ones who weaponized law enforcement.”
Bolton has not commented on the raid, but he has continued to criticize Trump&#8217;s foreign policy moves. Following the raid, President Trump claimed that he knew &#8220;nothing about it.&#8221;
“I saw it on television this morning. I’m not a fan of John Bolton. He’s a real … lowlife,” Trump said. “He’s not a smart guy. But he could be a very unpatriotic guy … we’re going to find out. I know nothing about it.&#8221;

Court Records Reveal What Was Taken From John Bolton’s Home During FBI Raid

Washington, D.C., filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration on Thursday, arguing that the president’s National Guard deployment in the nation’s capital is an “illegal federal overreach.”
D.C. Attorney General Brian Schwalb, a Democrat, <a href="https://oag.dc.gov/release/attorney-general-schwalb-sues-end-illegal-national">argued</a> that the deployment “is not only unnecessary and unwanted, but it is also dangerous and harmful to the District and its residents.” The lawsuit claims that Trump’s move to send in National Guard troops to help address D.C.’s violent crime problem deprives “the District of the local autonomy granted under the Home Rule Act.”
“No American city should have the US military – particularly out-of-state military who are not accountable to the residents and untrained in local law enforcement – policing its streets,” Schwalb added. “It’s D.C. today but could be any other city tomorrow. We’ve filed this action to put an end to this illegal federal overreach.”
President Donald Trump said he deployed the National Guard to the nation’s capital on August 11 to “reestablish law, order and public safety.” Trump also ordered federal law enforcement officers to assist in making arrests. The White House fired back after the lawsuit was filed, telling <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/09/04/us/dc-trump-national-guard-suit.html">The New York Times</a> that D.C.’s move was “nothing more than another attempt — at the detriment of D.C. residents and visitors — to undermine the President’s highly successful operations to stop violent crime in D.C.”

An administration official told Daily Wire White House Correspondent Mary Margaret Olohan that authorities also seized more than 100 firearms and cleared nearly 50 homeless encampments.
On Wednesday, Trump <a href="https://www.newsnationnow.com/crime/trump-dc-crime-down-100-percent-heres-what-numbers-show/">declared</a> that D.C. “is a totally safe city” following his executive action. “You are not reporting any crime because there is none,” Trump said. “They said crime is down 87%, then I said ‘no it’s not. It’s down 100%.’”
According to <a href="https://mpdc.dc.gov/sites/default/files/dc/sites/mpdc/publication/attachments/9.1.2025%20Surge%20Report.pdf">data</a> released by the Metropolitan Police Department, violent crime has gone down 39% during Trump’s deployment of the National Guard and federal law enforcement agents compared to the same time last year. Homicides dropped 58% and burglaries decreased by 49%, according to the Metropolitan Police Department’s statistics. President Trump has questioned the D.C. police department’s crime data after allegations surfaced earlier this year that officials “cooked the books” to keep crime numbers down.
The lawsuit follows a ruling from a federal judge on Tuesday who said that Trump broke the law when he deployed the National Guard and Marines to Los Angeles during violent anti-ICE protests in June, The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/judge-rules-trump-illegally-deployed-us-military-to-los-angeles">reported</a>. A 38-year-old Alabama man who traveled to Southern California with a cache of weapons and ammunition, claiming to be the &#8220;Angel of Death,&#8221; was arrested after threatening a Catholic monastery, according to prosecutors.
Joshua Michael Richardson was charged on Wednesday with felony criminal threats and possession of six high-capacity gun magazines, brass knuckles, and a sword, the Los Angeles Times <a href="https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2025-09-04/heavily-armed-angel-of-death-from-alabama-charged-with-threatening-socal-church">reported</a>. Richardson sent a disturbing email to St. Michael’s Abbey in Silverado Canyon, California, on August 19, saying that he was &#8220;rider of the pale horse,&#8221; who personifies death in the book of Revelation, and threatening to &#8220;do the Lord&#8217;s reaping&#8221; at the monastery. He also claimed to be Michael the Archangel, the &#8220;Angel of Death,&#8221; from the Bible, according to prosecutors.
Silverado Canyon is a small, unincorporated community in eastern Orange County, nestled within the Santa Ana Mountains about 55 miles southeast of downtown L.A.
Along with the high-capacity magazines and sword, investigators also discovered knives, body armor, and a stun gun in Richardson&#8217;s truck. It does not appear that the Alabama man had a firearm in his possession when he was arrested.
The L.A. Times reported that Richardson allegedly attended a service at St. Michael’s Abbey on August 26 and then followed the priest into a private area. He told the priest that “he came to do the Lord’s work, to separate the weak from the weeds, and that he rode his white pale horse from Alabama,” prosecutors said.
Richardson reportedly added that he wanted to target St. Michael&#8217;s Abbey because it still celebrates Michaelmas, which recognizes St. Michael with a feast on September 29. The Orange County Sheriff’s Department received a report about the threats two days after Richardson attended the service at the monastery, and arrested him. He is being held without bail and is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday.
Law enforcement urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

Richardson was arrested shortly after a Catholic school in Minneapolis was attacked by a trans-identifying shooter. FBI Director Kash Patel <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/kash-patel-says-minneapolis-school-shooting-was-an-act-of-domestic-terrorism">said</a> that the Minneapolis shooter, identified as 22-year-old Robin Westman, held anti-Catholic and antisemitic views. The Trump administration urged the Supreme Court on Wednesday to quickly review a lower court ruling that <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/appeals-court-strikes-down-sweeping-trump-tariffs-setting-up-battle-at-supreme-court">invalidated</a> the president’s tariffs.
President Donald Trump wants the Supreme Court to begin hearing arguments in the case as soon as November, a major request for the justices who typically wait until as late as next summer to make a decision, CNBC <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2025/09/03/trump-tariffs-trade-supreme-court.html">reported</a>. The Trump administration argues that the 7-4 U.S. Court of Appeals ruling “gravely undermines the President’s ability to conduct real-world diplomacy and his ability to protect the national security and economy of the United States.”
&#8220;That decision casts a pall of uncertainty upon ongoing foreign negotiations that the President has been pursuing through tariffs over the past five months, jeopardizing both already-negotiated framework deals and ongoing negotiations,&#8221; the administration added in its filing. &#8220;Few cases have so clearly called out for this Court’s swift resolution.&#8221;
Last week, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit ruled that Trump overstepped his authority under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) to levy tariffs.
“Absent a valid delegation by Congress, the President has no authority to impose taxes. Given these considerations, we conclude Congress, in enacting IEEPA, did not give the President wide-ranging authority to impose tariffs of the nature of the Trafficking and Reciprocal Tariffs simply by the use of the term ‘regulate … importation,’” the ruling stated.
“The core Congressional power to impose taxes such as tariffs is vested exclusively in the legislative branch by the Constitution,” the court added.
The <a href="https://www.congress.gov/crs-product/R45618">IEEPA</a>, enacted in 1977, allows the president to impose tariffs on any import to the United States after declaring a national emergency. On April 2, Trump &#8220;<a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/fact-sheets/2025/04/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-declares-national-emergency-to-increase-our-competitive-edge-protect-our-sovereignty-and-strengthen-our-national-and-economic-security/">declared</a> that foreign trade and economic practices have created a national emergency,&#8221; adding that he would impose &#8220;responsive tariffs to strengthen the international economic position of the United States and protect American workers.&#8221;
The appeals court delayed implementation of its order until October 14, giving the Trump administration time to appeal to the Supreme Court. If the ruling goes into effect, Trump&#8217;s sweeping &#8220;Liberation Day&#8221; tariffs that hit numerous countries around the world would be rescinded, dealing a significant blow to one of the president&#8217;s top priorities during his second term.
Attorney Jeffrey Schwab, whose libertarian-leaning firm Liberty Justice Center represented the plaintiffs in the case, said he is &#8220;confident&#8221; that the legal arguments against Trump&#8217;s tariffs &#8220;will prevail.&#8221;
&#8220;Both federal courts that considered the issue agreed that IEEPA does not give the President unchecked tariff authority,&#8221; Schwab said. A federal trade court also ruled in May that Trump did not have the authority to impose his &#8220;Liberation Day&#8221; tariffs.
Trump ripped the “Highly Partisan Appeals Court” following the decision last week, arguing that &#8220;it would be a total disaster for the Country&#8221; if his tariffs were rescinded.

President Donald Trump again blasted the attention given to the Jeffrey Epstein case on Wednesday, calling it a “Democrat hoax” after victims of the convicted sex offender gathered on Capitol Hill to demand more transparency.
While speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump was asked about the large group of Epstein victims who gathered nearby, just outside the Capitol Building. The president doubled down on referring to the Epstein controversy as a “hoax,” saying that it “never ends.”
“From what I understand, thousands of pages of documents have been given out, but it’s really a Democrat hoax because they’re trying to get people to talk about something that’s totally irrelevant to the success that we’ve had as a nation since I’ve been president,” Trump said.
The president then pointed to his action in Washington, D.C., where he deployed the National Guard and ordered federal agents to crack down on violent crime in the city.
“So what they’re trying to do with the Epstein hoax is get people to talk about that instead of speaking about the tremendous success like ending seven wars. I ended seven wars,” he added. “Nobody is going to talk about that because they’re going to talk about the Epstein whatever.”
Following the rally, numerous Epstein victims met with lawmakers on Capitol Hill to call on the federal government to release more information on the investigation. One Epstein accuser said it was “devastating” to hear the president marginalize the ongoing controversy, and another called on the president to meet with her “because this is not a hoax.”

Victims of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein said Wednesday they plan to release their own client list after the Justice Department in July announced it found no evidence of one.
At a rally on Capitol Hill, Epstein victim Lisa Phillips said she and other survivors of Epstein and his co-conspirator Ghislaine Maxwell plan to release a list of those involved in the abuse.
“Epstein was not just a serial predator; he was an international human trafficker,” Phillips said. “And many around him knew this, many participated, and many profited, and yet, he was protected. I know what it’s like to be trafficked to others, and I know the files contain the names of powerful men who have been shielded because of their fame or fortune.”
“And let me announce now, several of us Epstein survivors have been discussing creating our own list of names,” she added to the cheers of the crowd. “We know the names. Many of us were abused by them. Now together as survivors, we will confidentially compile the names we all know were regularly in the Epstein world, and it will be done by survivors and for survivors.”
After the rally, the Epstein victims and their supporters joined some Republican and Democratic lawmakers for a press conference just outside the Capitol Building. Reps. Ro Khanna (D-CA), Thomas Massie (R-KY), and Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) spoke, calling on the federal government to release more information on the Epstein investigation.
“[The] Washington establishment is asking the American public to believe something that is not believable,” Massie said. “They’re asking you to believe that two individuals created hundreds of victims and they acted alone and that the DOJ has no idea of who else might have been involved that nobody else did anything that rose to a criminal enterprise. The American people know that’s not true.”
The DOJ said that it did not find evidence that Epstein had a client list or that powerful co-conspirators were involved in his child sex crimes. The DOJ also noted that the evidence showed that Epstein committed suicide in his jail cell in August 2019. President Donald Trump has <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-says-epstein-story-is-kept-alive-by-pretty-bad-people-including-fake-news">blasted</a> those focusing on the Epstein files, arguing that the issue is being pushed by the “Fake News” and “success-starved Dems.”
During the press conference, Epstein accuser Jena-Lisa Jones said, “I remembered crying the entire way home, thinking about how I couldn’t ever tell anyone about what actually happened in that house. This guy was so rich and had so many pictures with so many famous people and no one would have ever believed me if I told them.” Jones told <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2025/09/02/us/jeffrey-epstein-survivors-interview">CNN</a> that she met Epstein when she was just 14, and that he was her first sexual experience.

Wednesday’s rally and press conference was the largest gathering of Epstein’s accusers since a 2019 court hearing following the sex abuser’s death, The Washington Post <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2025/09/03/house-epstein-files-victims-news-conference/#link-QMGSRWQ7GJFM3F6G2WVO222RZE">reported</a>. House lawmakers met with Epstein victims on Tuesday to discuss releasing more documents.
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL), who supports a limited release of Epstein documents, praised the Tuesday document dump, saying, “There’s 33,000 documents that were released because of this administration. When we met with victims yesterday, they said that they don’t want their personal information to be out there, and they actually asked us to not put it out there, so obviously that was information that was withheld from that document release.”
Massie also <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/thomas-massie-epstein-files-discharge-petition-house-vote/">filed</a> a discharge petition on Tuesday in an attempt to force a House vote on releasing the Epstein files. The discharge petition must receive 218 votes, a majority of the House, to move a vote forward.
Khanna believes that all House Democrats would sign the petition, and is hopeful that at least six Republicans would also sign. Massie said he is two Republicans away from passing the discharge petition, along with Massie and Greene, Reps. Nancy Mace of South Carolina and Lauren Boebert of Colorado are the only Republicans to sign the petition.
