Walz <a href="https://x.com/GovTimWalz/status/2049153093841924376">addressed</a> the raids in a social media post on Tuesday, claiming that his administration is putting fraudsters &#8220;behind bars.&#8221; The governor added that the court-approved search warrants were executed early Tuesday morning as part of a joint federal-state operation.
&#8220;If you commit fraud in Minnesota you’re going to get caught — and that’s exactly what we saw today. We catch criminals when state and federal agencies share information. Joint investigations work, and securing justice depends on it,&#8221; Walz wrote. &#8220;Today’s raids by state and federal law enforcement happened because our state agencies caught irregular behavior and reported it.&#8221;
FBI Director Kash Patel <a href="https://x.com/FBIDirectorKash/status/2049188920663916616?s=20">responded</a> to Walz on X and said that federal officials obtained and executed all of the search warrants on Tuesday.
&#8220;Come again? This FBI and DOJ with our DHS partners drafted and executed every search warrant today,&#8221; Patel said. &#8220;But go ahead and take credit for our work while we smoke out the fraud plaguing Minnesota under your governorship.&#8221;
At least 22 businesses were targeted in the raids. Many of the businesses being investigated by the feds are linked to Minnesota&#8217;s large Somali population. One of the locations raided by the feds on Tuesday morning was the now infamous Quality &#8220;Learing&#8221; Center, whose misspelled sign became the center of Minnesota&#8217;s <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/minneapolis-quality-learing-center-is-officially-closed-state-records-show">fraud controversy</a> in late December.
On Tuesday morning, federal agents were seen taking photos and moving a portable file case inside one daycare in South Minneapolis, CBS News <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/minneapolis-federal-agents-daycares-suspected-fraud/">reported</a>.
Walz, who has been <a href="https://oversight.house.gov/release/hearing-wrap-up-minnesota-governor-walz-and-attorney-general-ellison-lied-about-knowledge-of-fraud-and-silenced-whistleblowers/#:~:text=Testimony%20and%20information%20obtained%20by,Employees%20sounded%20alarms.">accused</a> of lying about the scale of fraud in his state, admitted in a testimony before Congress earlier this year that state government programs have faced fraud problems. Walz, however, argued that his administration has been properly investigating and prosecuting fraud. In late December, Walz raged against President Donald Trump after the president moved to freeze federal child care payments to Minnesota over ongoing fraud issues.
&#8220;We’ve spent years cracking down on fraudsters. It’s a serious issue — but this has been [Trump&#8217;s] plan all along,&#8221; Walz <a href="https://x.com/GovTimWalz/status/2006159722940879183">said</a>. &#8220;He’s politicizing the issue to defund programs that help Minnesotans.&#8221;
Walz also refused to cooperate with federal agents during the Trump administration&#8217;s Operation Metro Surge, which focused on deportations of illegal immigrants, but also included federal agents looking into suspected fraud. The operation was launched shortly after independent journalist Nick Shirley brought attention back onto Minnesota and Governor Walz with his reporting on Somali-owned daycares in December.
Fraud in state-run programs exploded under Walz&#8217;s watch going back to 2018. Since then, dozens of Somalis have been arrested and charged with defrauding numerous Minnesota social programs, including the federally funded Feeding Our Future nonprofit, which engaged in a massive fraud scheme during the COVID pandemic. The scandal also derailed Walz&#8217;s hopes for a third term as governor as he <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2026/01/05/us/walz-governor-fraud-klobuchar.html">announced</a> in January that he was ending his re-election bid because of the growing fraud issues in his state.
After taking credit for the raids on suspected fraudsters on Tuesday, Walz called on the federal government to investigate the killings of Minneapolis residents Renee Good and Alex Pretti, who were shot to death by federal immigration agents in January.
&#8220;Now let’s work on a joint investigation into the killings of Alex Pretti and Renee Good — instead of cherry picking when we seek justice and when we turn a blind eye,&#8221; he wrote.

The FBI and the Homeland Security Department executed raids in the Twin Cities on Tuesday morning, targeting numerous Somali-owned businesses as part of the Trump administration&#8217;s crackdown on fraud.
Federal agents obtained court-approved search warrants for more than 20 different locations in the Minneapolis area, Fox News <a href="https://x.com/BillMelugin_/status/2049107291681468871">reported</a>. Most of the search warrants are for businesses connected to Somalis, including the infamous Quality &#8220;Learing&#8221; Center that was at the center of controversy late last year.
&#8220;Homeland Security Investigations in cooperation with our law enforcement partners executed criminal search warrants in Minneapolis relating to the rampant fraud of U.S. taxpayers dollars,&#8221; the DHS <a href="https://x.com/DHSgov/status/2049111271866302695">said</a>.
No arrests were made in the early morning raids, but federal agents were seen taking photos and moving a portable file case inside a daycare in South Minneapolis, according to <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/minneapolis-federal-agents-daycares-suspected-fraud/">CBS News</a>.
Minneapolis has been at the center of President Donald Trump&#8217;s anti-fraud task force after dozens of Somalis were arrested and charged with defrauding numerous Minnesota social programs since 2018. The task force, which Trump launched earlier this year, is spearheaded by Vice President JD Vance. Since taking over as fraud czar, Vance has zeroed in on 14 state programs in Minnesota, which include autism service providers and medical service transports that the administration believes are rife with fraud.
Tom Emmer, a Minnesota Republican Congressman and the House Majority Whip, said on Tuesday that Minnesota taxpayers are &#8220;grateful&#8221; for the Trump administration&#8217;s action.
“President Trump and his administration have made it crystal clear — our country will not tolerate waste, fraud, and abuse, and we are not going to allow people to take advantage of Americans’ generosity,&#8221; he said in a release. &#8220;Minnesotans and U.S. taxpayers across the nation are grateful.”
Tuesday&#8217;s raids are not the first time federal agents have been on the ground at suspected fraud sites in the Minneapolis area. In late December, Homeland Security Investigations agents conducted door-to-door <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/feds-conduct-door-to-door-checks-at-suspected-minneapolis-fraud-sites">checks</a> at daycares and healthcare centers suspected of fraud. Those checks, however, did not include court-authorized raids of the businesses.
Minnesota Democratic Governor Tim Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison have been <a href="https://oversight.house.gov/release/oversight-committee-releases-explosive-testimony-revealing-minnesota-fraud-cover-up-by-governor-walz-and-attorney-general-ellison/">accused</a> of attempting to cover up the massive fraud scandal that has seen tens of millions of taxpayer dollars stolen from state government programs. The years-long fraud scheme included the nonprofit Feeding Our Future, which received federal funding to provide meals to hungry children during the COVID pandemic but distributed little food and exaggerated its numbers.
In December, independent journalist Nick Shirley brought attention back onto Minnesota and Governor Walz with his reporting on Somali-owned daycares that received taxpayer dollars but appeared to have no children in their buildings.

President Donald Trump on Monday called on ABC to fire late-night host Jimmy Kimmel, accusing the comedian of making a &#8220;despicable call to violence&#8221; after joking about first lady Melania Trump becoming a widow.
Trump took to Truth Social to respond to Kimmel&#8217;s White House Correspondents&#8217; Dinner bit, which the late-night host used to mock the president, first lady, and administration officials. In his bit, which Kimmel delivered at his fake White House Correspondents&#8217; Dinner two days before the real event, the comedian pretended to address Melania Trump in the audience, saying, &#8220;You have a glow like an expectant widow.&#8221;
Trump <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/116477838570626860">said</a> on Monday that Kimmel should be &#8220;immediately fired.&#8221;
&#8220;Wow, Jimmy Kimmel, who is in no way funny as attested to by his terrible Television Ratings, made a statement on his Show that is really shocking,&#8221; Trump wrote. &#8220;He showed a fake video of the First Lady, Melania, and our son, Barron, like they were actually sitting in his studio, listening to him speak, which they weren’t, and never would be. He then stated, &#8216;Our First Lady, Melania, is here. Look at Melania, so beautiful. Mrs. Trump, you have a glow like an expectant widow.'&#8221;
Trump argued the joke crossed a line, pointing to a security incident at the White House Correspondents&#8217; Dinner that followed days later on Saturday.
&#8220;A day later a lunatic tried entering the ballroom of the White House Correspondents Dinner, loaded up with a shotgun, handgun, and many knives. He was there for a very obvious and sinister reason,&#8221; Trump added. &#8220;I appreciate that so many people are incensed by Kimmel’s despicable call to violence, and normally would not be responsive to anything that he said but, this is something far beyond the pale.&#8221;
Two days after Kimmel joked about Melania Trump becoming a widow, a gunman charged past security at the White House Correspondents&#8217; dinner with intentions of targeting the president and top administration officials, authorities said. According to officials, the suspect, identified as Cole Tomas Allen of Torrance, California, was neutralized by Secret Service agents before he was able to breach the ballroom. In his manifesto, Allen referred to Trump as a &#8220;pedophile, rapist, and traitor.&#8221;
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also condemned Kimmel during a White House briefing on Monday.

President Donald Trump remains confident in Secret Service leadership and believes agents did &#8220;an excellent job&#8221; protecting him, top administration officials, and White House Correspondents&#8217; Dinner attendees from a gunman who opened fire on Saturday night, the White House said.
The White House released a statement on Monday morning praising the Secret Service for its quick action in stopping gunman Cole Tomas Allen before he made it into the ballroom where over 2,500 people had gathered for the high-profile event at the Washington Hilton. A White House official <a href="https://x.com/alaynatreene/status/2048741119270195482">said</a> that the president is &#8220;standing by the leadership of Secret Service, and President Trump has said he personally thinks they did an excellent job neutralizing the shooter and moving the President, First Lady, Vice President and cabinet to safety.&#8221;
The Secret Service has faced criticism from some people after Allen opened fire inside the hotel, throwing the White House Correspondents&#8217; Dinner into chaos and confusion. Video footage showed Allen running through a security checkpoint inside the hotel before he was quickly neutralized by agents. Allen shot one agent, who was protected by a bulletproof vest. No one else was injured.
In a 1,000-word manifesto, Allen criticized the Secret Service and claimed there was &#8220;no damn security&#8221; at the hotel before the White House Correspondents&#8217; Dinner. Allen checked into the Washington Hilton one day before he attempted to take out the president and top Trump administration officials.
Saturday night&#8217;s shooting has added to scrutiny of the Secret Service that has been brewing since Trump was shot at his Butler, Pennsylvania, rally in July of 2024. The president has also been critical of his protection following the Butler assassination attempt, but on Saturday night, Trump said the Secret Service did exactly what it was supposed to do when Allen attempted to get into the ballroom.
&#8220;The room was very, very secure,&#8221; Trump said, adding, &#8220;The reaction time was great. Those guys had their guns drawn literally by the time he was there, they were shooting. I thought they were very impressive.&#8221;
Trump&#8217;s Chief of Staff Susie Wiles will meet with Secret Service and Homeland Security Department leadership this week to discuss the president&#8217;s protection, the White House said.
&#8220;The meeting will discuss the processes and procedures that worked to stop Saturday’s attempt, while exploring additional options to ensure all relevant components are doing everything possible to secure the many major events planned for President Trump in the months ahead as he gears up to celebrate America 250,&#8221; a Trump administration official added.
The gunman wrote in his manifesto that he was targeting Trump and high-ranking administration officials, but he added that he was also willing to kill anyone who was attending the dinner.
&#8220;I would still go through most everyone here to get to the targets if it were absolutely necessary (on the basis that most people *chose* to attend a speech by a pedophile, rapist, and traitor, and are thus complicit) but I really hope it doesn’t come to that,&#8221; Allen wrote.

Obama addressed the shooting in a social media post hours after <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/manifesto-shows-shooter-was-willing-to-kill-everyone-at-correspondents-dinner?topStoryPosition=undefined&amp;author=Brecca+Stoll&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=4&amp;row=1&amp;rowHeadline=Top+Stories&amp;rowType=Top+Stories&amp;title=Manifesto+Shows+Shooter+Was+Willing+To+Kill+Everyone+At+Correspondents%E2%80%99+Dinner">reports</a> shed light on the gunman&#8217;s plan and reason for targeting Trump at the dinner. When Obama condemned the attack, however, he claimed that &#8220;details about the motives&#8221; remained a mystery.
&#8220;Although we don’t yet have the details about the motives behind last night&#8217;s shooting at the White House Correspondents Dinner, it’s incumbent upon all us to reject the idea that violence has any place in our democracy,&#8221; Obama <a href="https://x.com/barackobama/status/2048511290021237017?s=46">wrote</a>. &#8220;It’s also a sobering reminder of the courage and sacrifice that U.S. Secret Service Agents show every day. I’m grateful to them – and thankful that the agent who was shot is going to be okay.&#8221;
The shooter, 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen of California, laid out his plan and defended his violence in a 1,000-word document that he posted minutes before his attack. In the manifesto, Allen referred to Trump as a &#8220;pedophile, rapist, and traitor&#8221; and called himself the &#8220;Friendly Federal Assassin.&#8221; Allen wrote that his goal was to murder Trump administration officials at the White House Correspondents&#8217; Dinner, targeting them from &#8220;highest-ranking to lowest,&#8221; excluding FBI Director Kash Patel for unknown reasons.
After the shooting, Republicans — including President Donald Trump — urged Democrats to tone down their political rhetoric and &#8220;resolve our differences.&#8221;
&#8220;I do think that the hate speech of the Democrats … is very dangerous,&#8221; Trump told CBS News during a &#8220;60 Minutes&#8221; interview on Sunday.
It appears that Allen bought into many leftist talking points regarding President Trump and his administration&#8217;s policies. Allen latched onto conspiracy theories about Trump&#8217;s involvement with convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein and condemned U.S. military strikes on suspected drug runners in the Caribbean, calling them &#8220;fisherman executed without trial.&#8221;
Allen, who described himself as a Christian, argued that his faith required him to turn to violence for the sake of people who are being &#8220;oppressed.&#8221; In his manifesto, Allen sought to reconcile his faith with his heinous plan.
&#8220;Turning the other cheek is for when you yourself are oppressed. Turning the other cheek when someone else is oppressed is not Christian behavior; it is complicity in the oppressor’s crimes,&#8221; Allen wrote.
While the gunman claimed that he intended to &#8220;minimize casualties&#8221; of event attendees, he wrote that he was willing to open fire on anyone in the ballroom.
“I would still go through most everyone here to get to the targets if it were absolutely necessary (on the basis that most people *chose* to attend a speech by a pedophile, rapist, and traitor, and are thus complicit) but I really hope it doesn’t come to that,&#8221; he wrote in the manifesto.
Allen was taken down by Secret Service agents at the Washington Hilton before he made it to the ballroom. One Secret Service agent was shot by the gunman, but his bulletproof vest stopped the bullet.

Nearly two dozen people were injured, including War Department employees, when two commuter buses crashed head-on at the Pentagon Metro Station Friday morning.
Authorities said that 18 people were transported to the hospital to get evaluated after the crash, and five people were treated on the scene, according to ABC&#8217;s <a href="https://wjla.com/news/local/buses-collide-head-on-pentagon-arlington-washington-dc-bus-crash-injuries-fairfax-county-connector-omni-ride-south-parking-lot-bus-terminal">7News DC</a>. Ten of those injured in the crash were War Department employees, authorities said. The crash occurred at around 7:20 a.m. ET at the south parking lot of the Pentagon Metro Station.
The buses were traveling at low speed, and most of the injuries were minor, but at least one passenger was taken to a trauma center with more serious injuries, 7News reported.
Video footage showed one of the buses driving on the left side of the road as the other bus approaches.

Two teenagers, including an 18-year-old girl, were arrested earlier this week and charged with plotting a major attack on one of the largest Jewish synagogues in Houston.
Authorities arrested 18-year-old Angelina Han Hicks of Lexington, North Carolina, on Wednesday and accused her of planning to &#8220;kill as many Jews as possible&#8221; in an attack on Congregation Beth Israel in Houston, the Associated Press <a href="https://apnews.com/article/north-carolina-texas-synagogue-attack-plot-387b32d268fb0cd71c9415c418856a96">reported</a>. Hicks is accused of plotting the attack alongside two &#8220;male subjects.&#8221; The conspirators planned to murder Jewish worshipers by driving a vehicle through the synagogue on April 21, 2028, according to court documents.
It appears that one of the other alleged co-conspirators was also arrested earlier this week. The Houston Police Department announced on Thursday that a 16-year-old was arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit capital murder in relation to &#8220;a threat directed towards certain Jewish institutions in our area.&#8221;
The Houston Police did not say the 16-year-old was arrested for a planned attack on Congregation Beth Israel specifically, but authorities in Texas&#8217; largest city said they learned about the threat on the same day Hicks was taken into custody in North Carolina. Court documents identified Hicks&#8217; alleged co-conspirators as &#8220;Teegan&#8221; and &#8220;Angel,&#8221; the Houston Chronicle <a href="https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-texas/religion/article/houston-beth-israel-arrest-22221195.php">reported</a>.
Congregation Beth Israel, which also runs a school for pre-K through 5th graders, closed on Wednesday &#8220;out of an abundance of caution&#8221; after Houston police alerted the synagogue&#8217;s leadership to the threat. The synagogue reopened on Thursday.
The FBI <a href="https://x.com/FBICharlotte/status/2047385012278829223">said</a> that its Charlotte Joint Terrorism Task Force began investigating the alleged plot on Tuesday evening &#8220;after a tip to a North Carolina law enforcement agency.&#8221;
&#8220;This is an exceptional example of when you see something concerning, you say something to law enforcement,&#8221; the FBI added.
Hicks faces two felony charges of conspiracy to commit murder and felony conspiracy to commit assault with a deadly weapon. Her bond was set to $10 million, with District Court Judge Carlton Terry saying on Wednesday that Hicks&#8217; detention is necessary to prevent her from getting &#8220;a chance to communicate with either of those [co-conspirators] or those who could relay a message puts lives at risk.&#8221; Hicks&#8217; lawyer said his client&#8217;s young age could be a major factor in her legal defense.
North Carolina prosecutors warned that while the alleged plot highlighted a date two years from now, there was &#8220;some concern that there could be an imminent event&#8221; targeting Congregation Beth Israel.
The arrests come as Jewish Americans face increased threats and just a month after a Muslim man in Michigan rammed his vehicle into the largest Jewish Reform synagogue in the United States in an attack that the Justice Department said was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/michigan-synagogue-terrorist-attack-was-directed-by-hezbollah-fbi-says">directed by Hezbollah</a>. Ayman Mohamad Ghazali, a 41-year-old Lebanese national, was killed after exchanging gunfire with security guards at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, Michigan. One of the security guards was injured after he was struck by Ghazali’s vehicle, but no one else was harmed in the attack, which occurred near a daycare with dozens of children inside.

The SPLC, which started in the 1970s as an organization to push back against racism and segregation in the South, has been paying leaders of extremist groups for decades, according to an indictment unsealed by the Justice Department on Tuesday. The indictment states that the SPLC secretly used donor cash to pay so-called informants affiliated with racist groups, including the Ku Klux Klan, over $3 million between 2014 and 2023.
The SPLC is closely aligned with Democratic Party goals and talking points and has a political action fund that almost exclusively <a href="https://www.splcactionfund.org/endorsements/">endorses</a> Democrats in state and local elections in the South.
Between 2015 and 2023, the SPLC <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/lefty-anti-hate-group-paid-white-supremacist-to-plan-infamous-charlottesville-rally-indictment">paid</a> a member of a white supremacist group that planned the &#8220;Unite the Right&#8221; rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 2017, according to the indictment. The rally, which turned deadly when a man drove his car through a crowd of counter protesters, became the main reason behind former President Joe Biden&#8217;s 2020 election campaign. Biden pointed to the rally in his campaign announcement video, pinning blame on Trump and saying, “In that moment, I knew the threat to this nation was unlike any I had ever seen in my lifetime.”
The SPLC has also engaged in a campaign to label mainstream conservatives as &#8220;extremists&#8221; and has used its influence to pressure social media companies and the federal government to censor conservative voices. The SPLC was used as a resource by the FBI to identify extremists before FBI Director Kash Patel cut the bureau’s ties with the leftist organization last year.
In his post on Friday morning, Trump also called out Democratic Party fundraising platform ActBlue, which is under scrutiny over accusations that it allowed foreign contributions in American elections. Trump maintains that he was the rightful winner of the 2020 presidential election, which Biden won by over 70 electoral votes amid major controversy over mail-in ballots and ballot harvesting methods.

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) said on Wednesday that some lawmakers on the committee are in favor of a pardon for Jeffrey Epstein&#8217;s associate Ghislaine Maxwell in exchange for Maxwell answering questions on her and Epstein&#8217;s sex trafficking scheme.

“My committee’s split on that,” Comer told <a href="https://www.politico.com/live-updates/2026/04/22/congress/to-pardon-maxwell-or-not-00887823?nname=playbook&amp;nid=0000014f-1646-d88f-a1cf-5f46b7bd0000&amp;nrid=5c65d8fa-b7c7-44e5-98d0-43e6086e71cd">POLITICO</a>. “I don’t speak for my committee.”
He did not name any of his colleagues who have voiced support for pardoning Maxwell, but he clarified that he is not on the side of lawmakers who want Trump to offer her the deal.
&#8220;I think it looks bad. Honestly, other than Epstein, the worst person in this whole investigation is Maxwell,&#8221; he said.
The lawmakers who support a pardon for the convicted sex trafficker appear to be on the Republican side of the aisle. Rep. Robert Garcia of California, the top Democrat on the Oversight Committee, said that Democrats are united in their opposition to a pardon for Maxwell.
“That would be a huge step backwards, and, quite frankly, so disrespectful to the survivors. She is a known abuser. She is a known liar,&#8221; Garcia said. “If the DOJ or Oversight Republicans are out there trying to negotiate some sort of pardon that is … not only a huge slap in the face to this investigation, to anyone, to the American public, it&#8217;s a part of a massive cover up.”
Maxwell, who is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence for helping Epstein acquire underage girls for sex, has been pushing for a pardon from Trump for nearly a year. The president was <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/5541645-maxwell-pardon-trump-review/">asked</a> last October if he was considering a pardon for Maxwell and said he wasn&#8217;t aware that she had requested clemency. Trump added that he would &#8220;take a look at it&#8221; and &#8220;speak to the DOJ.&#8221;
After Maxwell refused to answer questions before the Oversight Committee in February, Trump was asked again if he would consider a pardon for her.
&#8220;It&#8217;s something I haven&#8217;t thought about,&#8221; he said again. &#8220;I&#8217;m allowed to do it, but it&#8217;s something I have not thought about.&#8221;
Last week, Maxwell&#8217;s lawyer, David Markus, told POLITICO that he remains optimistic that Maxwell will receive a pardon.
“I don’t know what the percentages are,” he said. “There’s a good chance and for good reason that she would get a pardon.”
Markus added that he has not yet spoken directly with the administration about Maxwell&#8217;s request.
&#8220;I don’t think now is the best time to do it, with everything going on,” he said, referring to the ongoing backlash to the Trump administration&#8217;s handling of the Epstein investigation. “We’re not on a full court press right now.”
The Oversight Committee, which has been conducting its own probe of the Epstein case, has interviewed multiple high-profile people connected to the convicted pedophile. Last month, former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton were grilled by the committee over their relationship with Epstein.
The Oversight Committee plans to interview Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates in the coming weeks.

At the same time, the leftist group was secretly transferring donor cash into the pocket of a white supremacist leader who helped plan the racist event, according to an indictment revealed by the Justice Department on Tuesday.
In the days after the August 11, 2017, rally, which turned into a deadly affair, the SPLC urged PayPal to crack down on accounts linked to so-called hate groups. PayPal, which already had policies in place on preventing racist groups from using its platform to transfer money, took more action after the &#8220;Unite the Right&#8221; rally and agreed to cut off payments to 34 more accounts linked to the event.
&#8220;PayPal, one of the world’s largest online payment processors, was integral in raising money to orchestrate the event,&#8221; the SPLC <a href="https://www.splcenter.org/resources/hatewatch/organizers-and-leaders-charlottesvilles-deadly-rally-raised-money-paypal/">stated</a> on its website in August 2017. &#8220;Organizers, speakers, and individual attendees relied on the platform to move funds in the run up to the ultimately deadly event.&#8221;
Keegan Hankes, analyst for the Southern Poverty Law Center, <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2017/08/16/paypal-escalates-the-tech-industrys-war-on-white-supremacy/">told</a> The Washington Post at the time, &#8220;For the longest time, PayPal has essentially been the banking system for white nationalism. It’s a shame it took Charlottesville for them to take it seriously.&#8221;

A 32-year-old woman was killed near the rally, and 35 others were injured when a man drove his car through a crowd of counter-protesters. The &#8220;Unite the Right&#8221; event became a main talking point for Democrats as they sought to pin blame on President Donald Trump, who had just begun his first term as president seven months before. In 2019, Joe Biden announced the launch of his campaign for president, citing the racist Charlottesville rally as a leading factor behind his decision.
The indictment also states that over the past 12 years, the SPLC has paid members of white supremacist groups, including paying one person who fundraised for a neo-Nazi group around $1 million over a 20-year period.
“They use their donor network to raise money to purportedly dismantle violent extremist groups,” FBI Director Kash Patel said on Tuesday. “However, the Southern Poverty Law Center, used the money they raised from their donor network to actually pay the leadership of these very groups.”

An informant who was paid by the Southern Poverty Law Center helped white supremacists plan the infamous &#8220;Unite the Right&#8221; rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 2017, according to the Justice Department.
In an <a href="https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.almd.90264/gov.uscourts.almd.90264.1.0.pdf">indictment</a> made public on Tuesday, the SPLC stands accused of secretly using donors&#8217; money to pay leaders within racist groups. One of the SPLC&#8217;s informants was a member of the leadership team of a white supremacist group that planned the rally in Charlottesville, according to the Justice Department.
The informant, who was identified in the indictment as &#8220;field source 37&#8221; or &#8220;F-37,&#8221; was paid more than $270,000 by the SPLC between 2015 and 2023. The informant was part of a group chat created for those who were planning the &#8220;Unite the Right&#8221; rally, and the informant attended the rally &#8220;at the direction of the SPLC,&#8221; according to the department.
&#8220;F-37 made racist postings under the supervision of the SPLC and helped coordinate transportation to the event for several attendees,&#8221; the indictment states.
The 2017 &#8220;Unite the Right&#8221; rally included a mix of alt-Right groups, including neo-Nazis and Klansmen. The rally turned deadly when a man drove his car through a crowd of counter protesters, killing a 32-year-old woman and injuring 35 others. The rally and violence that ensued became a main talking point for Democrats who attempted to pin blame on President Donald Trump and Republicans.

The indictment announced by the Justice Department this week provides multiple examples of how SPLC informants affiliated with extremist groups were paid more than $3 million between 2014 and 2023. The SPLC is also accused of hiding its activity behind bank accounts that were opened for &#8220;a series of fictitious entities&#8221; and making false statements about the bank accounts to keep the operation going.
One SPLC informant, identified as F-9, helped fundraise for the neo-Nazi group National Alliance. F-9 raked in more than $1 million from the SPLC over a 20-year period, according to the indictment.
Another informant, F-30, was secretly paid around $70,000 by the SPLC during a time period when the informant was also on the SPLC&#8217;s webpage that identifies groups and individuals that the SPLC labels as &#8220;extremist.&#8221; F-30 led the National Socialist Party of America and had previously led a faction of the white supremacist group Aryan Nation. The informant paid by the SPLC was also a former Klan member.
&#8220;In addition to directly paying leaders and others associated with the same violent extremist groups that the SPLC sought donations ostensibly to &#8216;dismantle,&#8217; the SPLC also used Fs to indirectly funnel money to other violent extremist group leaders,&#8221; the indictment states.
The SPLC is charged with six counts of wire fraud, four counts of making false statements to a federally insured bank, and one count of conspiracy to commit concealment money laundering.
Many people on the Right have criticized the SPLC for lumping together white supremacists and neo-Nazis with mainstream conservatives. The SPLC was also used as a resource by the FBI to identify extremists before FBI Director Kash Patel cut the bureau&#8217;s ties with the leftist organization last year.

Lefty ‘Anti-Hate’ Group Paid White Supremacist To Plan Infamous Charlottesville Rally: Indictment

The U.K. immigrant accused in the random killings of three people, including a Department of Homeland Security employee, was found dead in his Georgia jail cell Tuesday evening.
Authorities said that 26-year-old Olaolukitan Adon Abel, who was naturalized during former President Joe Biden’s administration, was found unresponsive by officials in his cell, according to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office. He was pronounced dead at the scene after authorities performed life-saving measures.
Officials have not released a cause of death as of Wednesday morning, but they do not suspect any foul play. Abel was found unresponsive by jail staff at 6:48 p.m. and was pronounced dead at 7:17 p.m., which was around the same time that a vigil was being held by family and friends of his victims, Fox 5 Atlanta <a href="https://www.fox5atlanta.com/news/shooting-spree-suspect-found-dead-dekalb-county-jail">reported</a>.
&#8220;In accordance with agency policy, a standard internal review has been initiated to examine the circumstances surrounding this incident,&#8221; DeKalb County Sheriff Sheriff Melody Maddox said. County officials added that &#8220;there is no indication of criminal activity or foul play.&#8221;
Abel was charged with two counts of murder and aggravated assault after he went on a killing spree in Georgia earlier this month. Abel attacked three people at random on the morning of April 13, including stabbing and shooting 40-year-old Homeland Security auditor Lauren Bullis, who was killed as she was on a walk with her dog.
Bullis was the third person targeted by Abel that morning. The immigrant, who had an extensive criminal record, shot and killed Prianna Weathers, 31, outside of a Checker&#8217;s restaurant around 1:00 a.m. in DeKalb County. Abel then drove 16 miles to Brookhaven, Georgia, where he shot Tony Matthews, 48, outside of a Kroger store. Matthews died from his injuries on Sunday, according to <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2026/04/17/us/lauren-bullis-prianna-weathers-atlanta-shootings">CNN</a>, meaning that Abel likely would have been hit with a third murder charge.
Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said that Abel has previously been convicted of sexual battery, battery against a police officer, obstruction, assault with a deadly weapon, and vandalism. After the brutal killings, the Trump administration emphasized that it is prioritizing &#8220;measures to ensure individuals with criminal histories and who otherwise lack good moral character do not attain citizenship.&#8221;
