President Donald Trump signed two executive orders on Friday aimed at slashing regulations that have slowed home-building and complicated the lending process as the president zeroes in on his house affordability agenda.
One <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2026/03/removing-regulatory-barriers-to-affordable-home-construction/">order</a> seeks to take federal regulatory burdens off of homebuilders, streamline federal permitting for housing developments, and develop regulatory best practices for state and local governments to follow. The other <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2026/03/promoting-access-to-mortgage-credit/">order</a> would &#8220;improve the availability and affordability of mortgage credit&#8221; and ease regulations that have especially affected local lenders, such as community banks, according to the White House.
&#8220;It is the policy of my Administration to reduce regulatory barriers to building homes and to steward taxpayer dollars in a manner that promotes housing affordability,&#8221; one of the orders states.
Trump&#8217;s move to address housing affordability comes as the White House focuses on tackling economic issues ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. Housing costs remain on the forefront of many Americans&#8217; minds after prices jumped in the years after the COVID pandemic, when construction significantly slowed.
&#8220;The American dream of homeownership depends on a dynamic housing market in which a varied inventory of new homes is built and renovated each year,&#8221; Trump&#8217;s executive order added. &#8220;Layers of unnecessary regulatory barriers, slow permitting processes, and onerous mandates at all levels of government have delayed construction, restricted development, and driven up the costs of new housing. These constraints have made housing less affordable for many Americans.&#8221;
On Thursday, the Senate easily <a href="https://apnews.com/article/affordable-housing-congress-bipartisan-8c15c9600bf0bd40e2420785aa5af20c">passed</a> legislation that would ease regulations and prevent corporations from buying single-family homes. Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), who sponsored the bill alongside Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), called the bill &#8220;consequential legislation that makes it easier to become a homeowner.&#8221; The Senate bill would also streamline environmental reviews and inspections, which would likely speed up the homebuilding process.
The bill, which passed 89-10 in the Senate, now heads to the House, where it faces an unknown future. Leaders in the House, which passed similar legislation earlier this year, have expressed opposition to some parts of the Senate bill. Even if the House passes the housing bill, it&#8217;s unclear how soon President Trump would sign it. Trump said last week that he would not sign any piece of legislation until the Senate passed the SAVE America Act.
On mortgage rates, the Trump administration believes slashing regulations will allow more lenders to compete in the game and thereby drive down borrowing costs.
The White House said that its action on mortgage aims to &#8220;reduce the regulatory burden on community banks and otherwise facilitate community bank engagement in mortgage activity; foster innovation, growth, and consumer choice in the mortgage market; modernize origination and closing standards to reduce lending costs; remove regulatory distortions to the structure of the mortgage market and to ensure capital and liquidity frameworks subject similar credit and liquidity risks to similar regulation across the system; promote competition among mortgage lenders of all charter types to drive down mortgage rates; and strengthen housing-finance liquidity.&#8221;
Trump also continues to pressure Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell to further lower the interest rate, which has dropped to the 3.50%-3.75% range. The Federal Reserve is set to meet next week to decide whether to move the interest rate or keep it steady.

The Chicago Teachers Union urged city leaders this week to cancel school on May 1 to allow students and teachers to join a nationwide protest against the Trump administration.
Some leftists are attempting to make May 1 a day of &#8220;no work, no school, no shopping&#8221; to protest President Donald Trump&#8217;s immigration and tax policy, and the Chicago Teachers Union wants public school students and staff to join in on the political demonstration.
&#8220;Educators say the president’s breaking of every rule mark a line in the sand for their students, school communities, and democracy as we know it,&#8221; the teachers union stated in a <a href="https://www.ctulocal1.org/posts/may-1-press-announcement/">press release</a>.
The teachers union is pushing to cancel school on May 1 as Chicago public schools continue to report dismal student proficiency rates. Only 43% of students between third and eighth grades in Chicago public schools read proficiently at their grade level, <a href="https://www.illinoispolicy.org/just-2-in-5-chicago-students-read-at-grade-level-under-lowered-proficiency-standards/#:~:text=In%202025%2C%20the%20Illinois%20State%20Board%20of,math%20on%20the%20IAR%20for%203rd%2D8th%20grade">according</a> to the 2025 Illinois Report Card. Meanwhile, 27% of students in those grade levels were proficient in math.
Last year, the Chicago Teachers Union helped organize protests against Immigration and Customs Enforcement after Trump ramped up immigration enforcement in the city. When asked about its focus on politics while most Chicago students struggle, the Chicago Teachers Union directed The Daily Wire to a comment from its press release.
&#8220;Teaching our students what civic action looks like requires more than textbooks when the President sends federal agents to occupy our cities and the Governor chooses to continue giving tax breaks to billionaires instead of giving our students the school day they deserve,” said Chicago Teachers Union Vice President Jackson Potter. “If we still want to have democracy in the midterms this November, public schools that provide our students with quality education, and unions to defend workers’ rights, then it is up to every Chicagoan to stand up for what we believe in and show the authoritarian billionaire in Washington that when he breaks every rule, we will not go along with business as usual.”
Windy City residents are growing increasingly frustrated with the Chicago Teachers Union, according to a recent <a href="https://www.illinoispolicy.org/poll-chicago-teachers-union-hits-record-low-popularity-among-chicagoans/">poll</a> conducted by M3 Strategies in partnership with the Illinois Policy Institute. The poll, which surveyed 437 registered voters in Chicago in late February, found that just 28% of respondents had a positive view of the teachers union, while 54% disapproved.
Nearly half of registered Chicago voters also said they would be less likely to vote for a candidate who accepted contributions from the Chicago Teachers Union, according to the poll. Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, whose approval rating dropped to 14% last year, is also a member of the Chicago Teachers Union. He helped organize a teachers strike in the past. Johnson was endorsed by the teachers union for his mayoral run in 2023. In the 2023 mayoral election, the union was one of the biggest contributors, funneling millions to the effort to elect Johnson and <a href="https://www.politico.com/f/?id=00000186-c61d-d147-a7f7-ce3f67990000&amp;nname=illinois-playbook&amp;nid=00000150-1596-d4ac-a1d4-179e288b0000&amp;nrid=fd26d771-53f4-408e-971f-9a6c6057372f&amp;nlid=639163">apportioning</a> $8 from each member&#8217;s union dues to arm its political action committees.
Mailee Smith, the vice president of policy and litigation at the Illinois Policy Institute, told The Daily Wire that the Chicago Teachers Union has long acted more like a political party than a voice for teachers and students.
&#8220;The Chicago Teachers Union is much more interested in pulling teachers out of school and pulling students out of school than it is focusing on the core curriculum,&#8221; Smith said.
&#8220;They are much more focused on progressive politics because that&#8217;s what they do,&#8221; Smith added. &#8220;They&#8217;re not a teachers union. They&#8217;re not in this for teachers and what&#8217;s best for them. They&#8217;re not in it for kids and what&#8217;s best for them. They have been focused, particularly since 2010, on being a political party.&#8221;

A popular social media news page in Dearborn, Michigan, sparked outrage for a post on Thursday that focused on the Michigan synagogue attacker&#8217;s recent &#8220;family tragedy&#8221; just hours after the man rammed his vehicle into the largest Jewish Reform synagogue in the United States and opened fire with a rifle.
TCD Dearborn News, which has over half a million followers on Instagram and 150,000 followers on Facebook, wrote that synagogue attacker Ayman Ghazali &#8220;recently experienced a family tragedy overseas&#8221; when two of his brothers and some of his nephews were killed in an Israeli air strike in Lebanon. The news page also described the attack as an &#8220;incident&#8221; and wrote that &#8220;the suspect died following reports of an active shooter at the synagogue.&#8221;

Jesse Arm, vice president of external affairs at the Manhattan Institute, <a href="https://x.com/Jesse_Leg/status/2032229722604589370">wrote</a>, &#8220;Isn’t it interesting how we’re constantly told that hating Jews and hating the Jewish state are two entirely separate, disconnected things—yet when a Lebanese immigrant from Dearborn attempts a mass-casualty terrorist attack at a Jewish preschool in West Bloomfield, the fact that his family was impacted by a conflict started by a terrorist organization against Israel on the other side of the globe suddenly becomes relevant context[?]&#8221;

Ghazali was killed by security personnel after ramming his vehicle, which was reportedly full of explosives, into Temple Israel. One security guard sustained injuries after being struck by the attacker&#8217;s vehicle. No one else in the synagogue, which also houses a preschool, was hurt, and the wounded security guard is expected to recover.

Ghazali&#8217;s wife filed for divorce in August 2024, and the divorce was finalized in March 2025, The Detroit News <a href="https://www.detroitnews.com/story/news/local/wayne-county/2026/03/12/temple-israel-synagogue-suspect-identified-as-dearborn-heights-man/89126461007/">reported</a>.
Ghazali lived and worked in Dearborn Heights, according to multiple local reports. The Dearborn and Dearborn Heights area has one of the largest Muslim populations in the United States. Dearborn Heights is 20 miles south of Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, an area that holds the largest Jewish population in Michigan.
The FBI said on Thursday night that it is leading the investigation into the attack, calling it a &#8220;targeted attack on the Jewish community.&#8221; Law enforcement officials did not say whether they had a lead on a potential motivation behind the attack. Armed FBI agents were seen executing a search warrant at the house believed to belong to Ghazali late Thursday night, Fox News <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/armed-fbi-agents-carry-out-search-warrant-believed-connection-synagogue-attacker">reported</a>.
Dearborn Heights Mayor Mo Baydoun commented on the attack on the Jewish synagogue and also mentioned that &#8220;earlier this month, [Ghazali] lost several members of his own family, including his niece and nephew, in an Israeli attack on their home in Lebanon,&#8221; according to The Detroit News. Baydoun condemned the attack on &#8220;a house of worship,&#8221; saying, &#8220;Everyone deserves to worship in peace.&#8221;
&#8220;This tragedy comes at a time when communities everywhere are confronting rising hate and senseless violence,&#8221; the mayor added. &#8220;No matter where violence occurs, whether in West Bloomfield or anywhere around in the world, harm against innocent people is something we must all stand firmly against. A bomb threat affecting two libraries at the University of Virginia was cleared after a three-hour police investigation on Friday. The threat came just one day after an ISIS-supporting terrorist shot three people, killing one, across the state at Old Dominion University.
University of Virginia police <a href="https://x.com/UVAPolice/status/2032469083707342863">told</a> people to &#8220;avoid the area&#8221; at Shannon Library on the Charlottesville campus just before 10:50 a.m. over reports of a bomb threat. The university&#8217;s Department of Safety and Security later <a href="https://x.com/UVASafety/status/2032471777801043981">added</a> that authorities were &#8220;investigating evacuating both Clemmons and Shannon Libraries.&#8221; The libraries are across the street from each other.
University authorities <a href="https://x.com/UVASafety/status/2032512601624568026">said</a> at 1:42 p.m. ET that the threat was &#8220;cleared&#8221; and &#8220;no device&#8221; was found on campus.
&#8220;Shannon and Clemons Libraries are returning to normal operations. You may resume normal activity. No further updates,&#8221; the Department of Safety and Security said.
The bomb scare added to heightened fears in the United States following a suspected terrorist attack in New York City last week, where two men are accused of attempting to throw homemade bombs into a crowd of people and police officers outside Gracie Mansion.
On Thursday, terrorist Mohamed Bailor Jalloh, who was previously convicted of supporting ISIS, killed one person and wounded two more were wounded when he opened fire in an ROTC classroom at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. Norfolk is around 170 miles southeast of Charlottesville.

The terrorist was killed by “a group of brave students who stepped in and subdued him,” according to FBI Director Kash Patel.

Police rushed to a large Jewish synagogue in West Bloomfield Township, Michigan, after an attacker rammed a vehicle into the building and opened fire on Thursday afternoon.
The attacker targeted Temple Israel, which is the largest Reform congregation in the United States. Aerial footage showed smoke pouring out of the building as first responders rushed into the synagogue.
A law enforcement source <a href="https://x.com/MaryMargOlohan/status/2032169431200399865?s=20">confirmed</a> to The Daily Wire that the shooter was armed with a rifle and rammed a car into the synagogue before being killed by armed security in a shootout. The vehicle, which the attacker drove through the doors of the building, caught on fire, and the shooter&#8217;s body was burned.
A security guard at the synagogue engaged the attacker and &#8220;shots were fired,&#8221; according to Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard. The shooter was found dead in the vehicle. One security guard was injured after he was hit by the attacker&#8217;s vehicle, but he&#8217;s expected to recover, according to Bouchard. Thirty law enforcement officers were also treated at the hospital for smoke inhalation after they ran into the smoke-filled synagogue to identify any potential threats and locate any victims.
The sheriff <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qa2QqMTKLbw">told</a> reporters that no one else in the synagogue was injured.
Temple Israel also has a preschool, and runs a drive-thru food pantry on Thursdays, according to its website. Sheriff Bouchard said &#8220;everyone&#8221; in the preschool had been accounted for.
Authorities were still working to secure the area and ensure that there wasn&#8217;t a second attacker who might have escaped and fled on foot, Bouchard added. Schools in the area remained in lockdown.
The FBI was also on the scene and is now leading the investigation, calling it a &#8220;targeted act of violence against the Jewish community.&#8221;
&#8220;FBI personnel are on the scene with partners in Michigan and responding to the apparent vehicle ramming and active shooter situation out of Temple Israel Synagogue in West Bloomfield Township, Michigan,&#8221; FBI Director Kash Patel said.
The FBI <a href="https://x.com/FBIDetroit/status/2017244001225564419">held</a> an &#8220;Active Shooter Attack Prevention and Preparedness&#8221; training for clergy and staff at Temple Israel in January.
President Donald Trump said has been briefed on the attack, which he called &#8220;a terrible thing.&#8221;
&#8220;I want to send our love to the Michigan Jewish community and all of the people in the Detroit area following the attack on the Jewish synagogue earlier today,&#8221; Trump said.
Following reports of the attack, Jewish organizations were told to go into lockdown. West Bloomfield has the highest Jewish population in Michigan.
&#8220;We are aware of a security incident at Temple Israel. We are advising all Jewish organizations to go into lockout protocol &#8211; nobody in or out of your building. More information to follow,&#8221; the Jewish Federation of Detroit said.
Aerial footage and video from the ground outside the synagogue showed a massive police presence as officers with long guns walked near the building.

After the attack, Temple Israel released a statement on social media, confirming that &#8220;all 140 students in our Susan and Harold Loss Early Childhood Center, our amazing staff, our courageous teachers, and our heroic security personnel are all accounted for and safe.&#8221;
&#8220;As you have no doubt heard, Temple Israel was the victim of a terrorist gunman who was confronted and neutralized by our security personnel who are truly heroes. Our teachers followed their training and kept the children safe and calm,&#8221; Temple Israel added. &#8220;We are deeply and humbly grateful to our teachers, staff, security, law enforcement, and Shenendoah Country Club that welcomed us, fed us, and sheltered our staff, teachers, children, and parents. Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer said the attack on Michigan&#8217;s Jewish community was &#8220;heartbreaking.&#8221;
&#8220;Michigan&#8217;s Jewish community should be able to live and practice their faith in peace. Antisemitism and violence have no place in Michigan I am hoping for everyone&#8217;s safety,&#8221; Whitmer added. &#8220;Thank you to law enforcement for their swift action.&#8221;
In 2022, a Muslim man named Hassan Chokr drove through the synagogue parking lot of Temple Beth El, a large reformed synagogue in nearby Bloomfield Township, Michigan, and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/muslim-felon-threatened-jewish-preschoolers-then-tried-to-buy-guns-doj">shouted</a> antisemitic threats toward preschoolers and their parents. After Chokr was told to leave, he went to a gun store in Dearborn, Michigan, and tried to buy multiple firearms. He was sentenced to 34 months in prison last September.
Last September, a man rammed his truck into a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc, Michigan, before getting out and opening fire. Democratic Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania, who has broken with Democrats on multiple issues, is toeing the party line on the SAVE America Act, criticizing President Donald Trump over concerns about mail-in ballots and gender procedures for children on Wednesday night.
During an appearance on CBS News&#8217;s &#8220;The Takeout with Major Garrett,&#8221; Fetterman <a href="https://x.com/CBSNews/status/2031851997729632432">said</a> he doesn&#8217;t support the SAVE America Act &#8220;in its current state.&#8221; The legislation, which would establish strict voter ID requirements and limit the use of mail-in ballots, is Trump&#8217;s top priority for the Senate.
&#8220;The president is constantly critical on mail-in voting, and that&#8217;s ridiculous. It&#8217;s safe,&#8221; Fetterman said. &#8220;Some of the best examples in the country are from red states like Ohio and Florida, of course.&#8221;
&#8220;I can&#8217;t ever vote for that,&#8221; the Democrat added. &#8220;Because I could never agree [with] something that&#8217;s just not true.&#8221;
Fetterman highlighted how Republicans and Democrats passed legislation in Pennsylvania in 2019 to legalize mail-in voting. Two years later, following Trump&#8217;s 2020 loss, many Pennsylvania Republicans filed a lawsuit seeking to overturn the 2019 voting law.
Along with imposing strict voter ID requirements and mail-in ballot rules, the SAVE America Act would also keep men from competing in women’s sports and protect children from gender procedures. Fetterman said he also opposes the effort from Trump and Republicans to pass legislation that would outlaw life-altering gender procedures on minors.
&#8220;That entire community, I refuse to target that or pick on that. It&#8217;s difficult enough for transgender kids, so I think this is the wrong venue to discuss it nationally,&#8221; Fetterman added.
&#8220;I think it&#8217;s a very personal choice for parents and their children,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;And I think it&#8217;s increasingly going to become a more local or maybe state kind of decisions.&#8221;
Fetterman acknowledged that the &#8220;vast majority&#8221; of Americans support requiring people to show ID to register to vote, and he signaled that he would support legislation that focuses solely on enacting stricter voter ID requirements. Recent polls show that more than 80% of Americans back such restrictions.
&#8220;Hey, I&#8217;m not going to tell 83% of Americans that they&#8217;re wrong, or that they&#8217;re Jim Crow,&#8221; he said, referring to a talking point from many Democrats who have claimed that the SAVE America Act would disenfranchise more than 20 million voters and act as &#8220;Jim Crow 2.0.&#8221; Fetterman blasted Democrats&#8217; characterization of the SAVE America Act as &#8220;Jim Crow 2.0.&#8221;

President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) must &#8220;be a leader&#8221; and take the SAVE American Act across the finish line as Senate Republicans face continued pressure from voters and the White House to pass the voter ID legislation before the midterm elections.
Asked about Thune on Wednesday, Trump made it clear that the SAVE America Act remains the single most important task for the GOP-controlled Senate.
&#8220;He&#8217;s gotta be a leader,&#8221; Trump said of Thune. &#8220;He&#8217;s a leader, he&#8217;s gotta get [the votes].&#8221;
&#8220;It&#8217;s the most popular bill put before Congress,&#8221; he added.
This week, Thune has poured cold water on a Trump-backed proposal to revert to the talking filibuster to pass the SAVE America Act. The talking filibuster would force Democrats who oppose the SAVE America Act to speak nonstop on the Senate floor if they want to block a vote, but according to Thune, a group of Republicans is not on board with changing Senate rules to meet Trump&#8217;s demand.
&#8220;The votes aren’t there, one, to nuke the filibuster, and the votes aren’t there for a talking filibuster,&#8221; Thune told reporters on Tuesday. &#8220;It’s just a reality. I’m the person who has to deliver sometimes the not-so-good news that the math doesn’t add up, but those are the facts, and there’s no getting around it.&#8221;

Senators who have signaled support for using the talking filibuster to pass the SAVE America Act include, Jim Banks (IN), Marsha Blackburn (TN), Ted Budd (NC), Katie Britt (AL), Bill Cassidy (LA), John Cornyn (TX), Ted Cruz (TX), Joni Ernst (IA), Bill Hagerty (TN), Josh Hawley (MO), Ron Johnson (WI), Mike Lee (UT), Cynthia Lummis (WY), Roger Marshall (KS), Dave McCormick (PA), Ashley Moody (FL), Bernie Moreno (OH), Markwayne Mullin (OK), Rand Paul (KY), Jim Risch (ID), Eric Schmitt (MO), Rick Scott (FL), Tim Scott (SC), Tim Sheehy (MT), Dan Sullivan (AK), and Tommy Tuberville (AL).
Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska is the only Republican senator who has publicly opposed the SAVE America Act, and Sen. John Curtis (R-UT) has publicly voiced his opposition to using the talking filibuster. The remaining Republican senators have not said where exactly they stand on the talking filibuster.
Republicans who are wary of using the talking filibuster argue that it would allow Democrats to control the Senate floor and propose an unlimited number of amendments that could be tacked onto the SAVE America Act.
&#8220;I understand everybody feels— they&#8217;re really invested in this, but this particular approach, in terms of the process, is much more complicated and risky than people are assuming at the moment, which is why that the Democrats looked at doing it both under [Chuck] Schumer and [Harry] Reid when they were in the majority, and opted against it,&#8221; Thune told reporters earlier this week.
The SAVE America Act also contains provisions to keep men from competing in women&#8217;s sports and to protect children from gender procedures, key issues for Trump and Republicans.
&#8220;It&#8217;s the most popular bill I think I&#8217;ve ever put before Congress,&#8221; Trump reiterated.
Recent polls show that the vast majority of Americans support voter ID requirements similar to those put forward in the SAVE America Act. While 50 Republican senators have come out in support of the bill, Republicans would need to reach 60 votes to get past the filibuster and move the legislation to a vote. Democrats have remained united in their opposition to the SAVE America Act, effectively tanking the bill&#8217;s chances.
Many Republicans, however, believe they would have a chance to pass the bill if they instituted the talking filibuster, which could wear down Democrats who oppose the Trump-backed legislation. Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) told The Daily Wire on Tuesday, &#8220;Voters across the nation are demanding the SAVE America Act. If we need a few more Senators to get on board to beat a Democrat standing filibuster, that’s not a reason to give up — it’s a reason to push even harder.&#8221;
&#8220;If Republicans don’t fight hard to deliver this wildly popular legislation that President Trump has specifically requested, how can we ask Americans to entrust us with both chambers of Congress in the future?&#8221; Lee added.

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) said on Tuesday night that the committee plans to question the former corrections officer who searched for information about pedophile Jeffrey Epstein less than an hour before he was found dead in his New York City jail cell on August 10, 2019.
The New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/03/07/us-news/prison-guard-googled-jeffrey-epstein-minutes-before-his-body-was-found-and-deposited-thousands-days-before-pedophiles-suicide-doj/">reported</a> last Saturday that former Metropolitan Correctional Center guard Tova Noel googled &#8220;latest on Epstein in jail&#8221; at 5:42 a.m. and again at 5:52 a.m. before Epstein was found dead at 6:30 a.m., according to FBI records. Chase Bank also flagged numerous &#8220;suspicious&#8221; deposits into Noel&#8217;s bank account between April of 2018 and November of 2019, with the largest deposit of $5,000 coming on July 30, 2019, according to the Post, which reviewed DOJ documents.
Noel will now be asked to appear before the committee for an interview, Comer <a href="https://x.com/JesseBWatters/status/2031535459940155536">told</a> Fox News host Jesse Watters.
&#8220;The recent media reports &#8230; [are] very concerning, especially the suspicious activity report on a $5,000 mysterious deposit that she had,&#8221; Comer told Watters. &#8220;And the reason that stands out to me, Jesse, is because very seldom are suspicious activity reports even reported for sums less than $10,000.&#8221;
Noel, who was also accused of falsifying guard shift records the night before Epstein was found dead, is believed to be the last corrections officer to see Epstein alive.
&#8220;So because of this, because of the media reports and because of the fact that, honestly, most people on the committee aren&#8217;t confident 100% that Epstein&#8217;s death was by suicide, we&#8217;re going to ask Ms. Noel to come in for a transcribed interview,&#8221; Comer said. &#8220;Again, no one is accusing her of any wrongdoing, but we have a lot of questions about Epstein.&#8221;
Noel is also believed to be the mysterious blur that was <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/jeffrey-epstein-jail-video-investigation/">caught on camera</a> moving near Epstein&#8217;s cell with orange linen the night before he died, according to the Justice Department. Epstein apparently killed himself using extra linen that was in his cell. Noel reportedly told investigators that she &#8220;never gave out linen&#8221; to inmates, since that was always done during the previous shift. She also denied googling Epstein shortly before he was found dead.
DOJ investigators interviewed Noel following Epstein&#8217;s apparent suicide, and her lawyers said she did not have any part in Epstein&#8217;s death. The Justice Department did not ask Noel about the numerous cash deposits that were flagged by Chase as &#8220;suspicious activity,&#8221; the Post reported.
Noel and her fellow guard, Michael Thomas, were accused of falling asleep on the job and admitted to falsifying their reports to cover up for missing checks on Epstein, which they were supposed to conduct every 30 minutes.
Noel and Thomas were arrested and charged in November of 2019, but a federal judge later <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2022/01/03/us/jeffrey-epstein-officers-dismissed-charges-judge">dismissed</a> the charges after prosecutors struck a deal in exchange for &#8220;truthful information related to their employment by the Bureau of Prisons.&#8221;

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told Americans on Tuesday that oil and gas prices would soon come back down, and President Donald Trump&#8217;s massive military operation in Iran would result in lower gas prices in the &#8220;long-term.&#8221;

Brent crude, the international benchmark price point for oil, skyrocketed to nearly $120 per barrel earlier this week, but then plummeted to under $90 after President Trump said on Monday that the war in Iran was &#8220;very far ahead of schedule.&#8221; As of Tuesday afternoon, Brent crude remained just below $90 per barrel, which is still much higher than before the United States and Israel began their joint operation targeting Iran on February 28.
The ongoing war in Iran has squeezed oil flow coming through the Strait of Hormuz, which sits between Iran and the United Arab Emirates and is the only passage for tankers leaving the Persian Gulf. Around 20% of the world&#8217;s oil is transported through the Strait of Hormuz, but that oil flow came to a near complete halt last week. As of Monday, oil tankers again began traversing the strait, with oil tanker traffic ticking up to 20% of its normal level, according to analysis from Goldman Sachs.
Trump has floated taking control of the strait. The White House is also considering using U.S. ships to escort oil tankers.
&#8220;That’s an option the president has said he will absolutely utilize if and when necessary at the appropriate time,” Leavitt said on Tuesday.
The president warned Iran on Monday, saying, &#8220;If Iran does anything that stops the flow of Oil within the Strait of Hormuz, they will be hit by the United States of America TWENTY TIMES HARDER than they have been hit thus far.&#8221;
U.S. intelligence suggests that Iran could be preparing to drop mines in the Strait of Hormuz, CBS News <a href="https://x.com/JenniferJJacobs/status/2031433322555937181">reported</a>. Such a move could further threaten oil tanker traffic and stall oil flow to the world. If tankers are prevented from passing through the Strait of Hormuz for more than two weeks, oil could reach $150 per barrel, some experts warned, according to the Associated Press. Saudi Arabia&#8217;s state-run oil company also warned of &#8220;catastrophic consequences&#8221; for global oil markets if the important shipping lane does not reopen soon.

On Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt called the SAVE America Act &#8220;one of the most critical pieces of legislation in our nation&#8217;s history.&#8221;
&#8220;Passing the SAVE America Act is the most important thing that Republicans and frankly, Democrats, can do to strengthen election integrity and protect democracy,&#8221; Leavitt added. &#8220;It&#8217;s what the American people elected Republicans to do, and they must deliver on it as soon as possible.&#8221;
The press secretary also slammed Democrats for promoting the &#8220;myth&#8221; that the legislation would make it more difficult for women to vote.
&#8220;As far as married women who have changed their name, if they&#8217;re already registered to vote, they&#8217;re entirely unaffected by the SAVE Act, and for the some fraction of individuals who have changed their name or their address, they can still register to vote, of course. They just have to go through their state processes to update that documentation,&#8221; Leavitt continued.
Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/front-of-the-line-trump-says-he-wont-sign-a-thing-until-save-act-hits-his-desk">said</a> on Sunday that he would not sign any other legislation until the SAVE America Act is sent to his desk. The Senate effectively ended the talking filibuster in the 1970s and moved to the silent filibuster, which has allowed the opposition to stall votes only by stating their intent to filibuster, and thereby require 60 votes to invoke cloture. Trump, who also pushed for the Senate to abolish the filibuster, has suggested that he would take executive action to impose voter ID and citizenship requirements if Congress doesn&#8217;t pass the SAVE America Act.

The rapid drop in U.S. crude late in the day came as President Donald Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/live-updates-iranian-protests-intensify-as-citizens-demand-end-to-ayatollah-rule?contentProgram=LIVE%20UPDATES%3A%20Iran%20Threatens%20To%20Seize%20Property%20Of%20Anti-Regime%20Citizens%20Living%20Abroad&amp;contentType=Post&amp;elementPosition=3&amp;location=Home%20Tab&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Home%20Featured%20Carousel">said</a> the war, which has lasted for over one week, is &#8220;very far ahead of schedule&#8221; after initially predicting a four-to-five-week operation. Following Trump&#8217;s latest comments on the Iran conflict, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&amp;P 500 also climbed. The Dow initially <a href="https://apnews.com/article/oil-stock-markets-iran-war-458890210407eb0cba85c7e1a684c890">fell</a> around 900 points early on Monday before closing the day up 261 points, while the S&amp;P 500 turned a 1.5% fall in the morning into a gain of nearly 1% by the closing bell.
&#8220;I think the war is very complete, pretty much,” Trump told CBS News in a phone interview. &#8220;They have no navy, no communications, they&#8217;ve got no air force,&#8221; Trump said. &#8220;Their missiles are down to a scatter. Their drones are being blown up all over the place, including their manufacturing of drones.&#8221;
&#8220;If you look, they have nothing left. There&#8217;s nothing left in a military sense,&#8221; he added.
Snippets of Trump&#8217;s interview were <a href="https://x.com/weijia/status/2031086856679412042">posted</a> by CBS News Senior White House Correspondent Weijia Jiang just after 3:15 p.m. ET, which was roughly the same time that the steep drop in Brent crude and the rise in the markets began.
Trump also <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/trump-iran-cbs-news-the-war-is-very-complete-strait-hormuz/">told</a> CBS News that he is considering taking control of the Strait of Hormuz, the vital passage between Iran and the United Arab Emirates, where around 20% of the world&#8217;s oil typically traverses each day. Since the conflict in Iran began, tankers have been mostly halted from passing through the strait and into the open ocean. Trump said on Monday afternoon, however, that ships are once again moving through the strait and added that the Iranian regime would be completely obliterated if it threatens ships.
&#8220;If they do anything bad, that would be the end of Iran, and you&#8217;d never hear the name again,&#8221; Trump said.
If tankers are prevented from passing through the Strait of Hormuz for more than two weeks, oil could reach $150 per barrel, some experts warned, according to the Associated Press. Gas prices in the United States have surged since Trump&#8217;s Iran operation began. The national average for gas has climbed to $3.47 per gallon since last week, according to AAA. Before the recent rise, gas prices in the United States had mostly fallen since Trump took office last year.
Trump has not said when exactly &#8220;Operation Epic Fury&#8221; would end, but during <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9bkyOTCrEg">remarks</a> to Republican lawmakers in Doral, Florida, later Monday afternoon, he said that the U.S. military &#8220;will not relent until the enemy is totally and decisively defeated.&#8221; U.S. forces have decimated the Iranian navy and military capabilities, and the joint U.S.-Israeli strikes killed Iran&#8217;s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei.
Seven U.S. troops have been killed since the United States launched its major military operation on February 28.
