A 24-year-old Venezuelan man claiming to be a human trafficking victim attended an Ohio high school for over a year while posing as a 16-year-old, local law enforcement said.
Anthony Emmanuel Labrador Sierra, an adult male, attended Perrysburg High School near Toledo from January 2024 until last week after it was discovered he had lied about his age, the city&#8217;s police department said Tuesday. Sierra was arrested on Monday and charged with felony forgery charges after a woman came forward and said that he was the father of her child and that he was pretending to be a teenager.
The Perrysburg School District said that Sierra used forged documents to obtain legal guardianship, a Social Security number, an Ohio driver&#8217;s license, and Temporary Protected Status from deportation.
Sierra&#8217;s legal status is currently unknown, but the Department of Homeland Security tells The Daily Wire it is looking into the matter.
Local detective Ryan Merrow, who is investigating the incident, told The Daily Wire that the case is ongoing and that more charges may be coming. Merrow added that the school told him that Sierra was working with an &#8220;advocacy group&#8221; to obtain protected legal status in the United States.
He said that investigators believe that Sierra&#8217;s real birthdate is March 27, 2001, while the Venezuelan national claimed to be born on December 2, 2007 when he first moved to enroll in high school in November 2023. Sierra obtained a guardian family, which was contacted last week by a woman who said she had a child with him and that he was lying about his identity. The guardian family then contacted the school, which reached out to the police department on Monday.
Merrow said that the police department verified the documentation provided by the woman, proving that Sierra was lying about his identity. He added that any crime committed by Sierra at the school or involving students at the school would be handled by Perrysburg Police.
The school district said Tuesday that they were heartbroken when they found out that they had allowed a 24-year-old male to attend school among young teenagers.
&#8220;What’s most heartbreaking is how many responded in good faith. Staff and local families offered support to someone they believed was a vulnerable teen. Their compassion reflects the best of our community. Though trust was violated, we remain proud of those who chose to help,&#8221; the district said. &#8220;Student safety remains our highest priority. We are committed to transparency and to strengthening safeguards that protect every child in our schools.&#8221;
Ohio state lawmaker Josh Williams, who represents the district containing the school, said he was &#8220;deeply troubled&#8221; by the news and that the people &#8220;need answers&#8221; from the school system.
&#8220;I seriously doubt the school system&#8217;s ability to keep our students safe when it can&#8217;t even affirm the immigration status or age of this man,&#8221; Williams said. &#8220;I will be following up very soon with more detailed questions for the school district.&#8221;
&#8220;When local districts fail this most basic responsibility, you can believe the legislature will get involved,&#8221; he said.
Rampant fraud has been found in many of the immigration programs that were implemented under President Joe Biden, including his parole program that released thousands of migrants into the country. A report from the Department of Homeland Security <a href="https://cis.org/Arthur/DHS-Pauses-Its-Illegal-CHNV-Parole-Program-Amidst-Fraud-Concerns" target="_blank" rel="noopener">found</a> that just a few thousand people were applying to &#8220;sponsor&#8221; over 100,000 migrants.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday sided with a Maine Republican state representative who was banned from voting over her comments on social media about a transgender-identifying male high school athlete competing against girls.
Representative Laurel Libby was blocked from voting and speaking from the House floor after Democrats voted to censure her after she posted public images of a transgender-identifying high school boy taking first place in girls’ pole vaulting at Maine’s Class B state championship. The court on Tuesday blocked the state from stripping Libby of her voting rights as the case is litigated.

“This is a victory not just for my constituents, but for the Constitution itself,” Libby added in a separate <a href="https://x.com/laurel_libby/status/1924906132813885618">post</a>. “The Supreme Court has affirmed what should never have been in question, that no state legislature has the power to silence an elected official simply for speaking truthfully about issues that matter.”
Liberal Justices Ketanji Brown Jackson and Sonia Sotomayor were the only two to side against Libby.
Democrats claimed that Libby&#8217;s social media post put the transgender-identifying boy at risk and voted to censure her, stripping her of the right to vote and speak on the House floor because she refused to apologize. Libby challenged her punishment, but lost at the district and appeals court levels before appealing to the Supreme Court in April.
“It would be a remarkable break from history to permit the continued disenfranchisement of thousands of Americans for their chosen representative’s protected speech,” Libby&#8217;s lawyers wrote.
The Trump administration has been at war with Maine after it has continued to allow males to compete in women&#8217;s sports in defiance of President Donald Trump&#8217;s executive orders. Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. ripped into the World Health Organization (WHO) as a “moribund” institution under undue influence from China in a Tuesday message to the organization’s governing assembly. 
In a video message shown at the World Health Assembly in Switzerland on Tuesday, Kennedy called for nations to follow America’s lead and create new health-focused institutions. His address comes after President Donald Trump issued an executive order in January <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-orders-u-s-to-withdraw-from-world-health-organization?author=Leif+Le+Mahieu&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Trump+Orders+U.S.+To+Withdraw+From+World+Health+Organization" target="_blank" rel="noopener">withdrawing</a> the United States from the WHO, citing its handling of the COVID pandemic and “onerous payments.”
“Like many legacy institutions, the WHO has become mired in bureaucratic bloat, entrenched paradigms, conflicts of interest, and international power politics,” Kennedy said Tuesday. “While the United States has provided the lion’s share of the organization’s funding historically, other countries such as China have exerted undue influence over its operations in ways that serve their own interests and not particularly the interests of the global public.”
During COVID, Kennedy said that the WHO suppressed reports of human-to-human transmission and worked at the behest of China to promote the “fiction” that COVID originated from bats and not a government-sponsored lab in Wuhan. 
“Not only has the WHO capitulated to political pressure from China, it’s also failed to maintain an organization characterized by transparency and fair governance by and for its Member States,” Kennedy said. “The WHO often acts like it has forgotten that its members must remain accountable to their own citizens and not to transnational or corporate interests.”
He said the international health body has reflected the biases of corporate medicine and has pushed “harmful gender ideology” at the expense of wellness. 
Kennedy said he would like to see other public health officials reboot their entire systems, pointing to the changes he has implemented in the United States. He cited his department&#8217;s focus on chronic health issues, removing dyes and additives from food, investigating the cause of autism, and moving away from processed foods. 
“Global cooperation on health is still critically important to President Trump and myself, but it isn’t working very well under the WHO as the failures of the COVID era demonstrate,” he said. “I urge the world&#8217;s health ministers and the WHO to take our withdrawal from the organization as a wake-up call.”
The World Health Assembly is made up of member nations that determine the WHO&#8217;s policies, budget, and leadership.

The Trump administration is investigating the City of Chicago after Democratic Mayor Brandon Johnson bragged about the number of black people he has hired.
The Justice Department informed Johnson on Monday of the probe just one day after he appeared at a church and suggested that he had staffed his administration based on race. In a <a href="https://www.justice.gov/crt/media/1400811/dl?inline" target="_blank" rel="noopener">letter</a>, Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon told Johnson that the investigation would examine whether the city violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, which prohibits racial discrimination in employment.
Dhillon told Johnson the investigation was “based on information suggesting that you have made hiring decisions solely on the basis of race.”
On Sunday, Johnson <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jcD_HXIFQW4" target="_blank" rel="noopener">appeared</a> at the Apostolic Church of God in Woodlawn and talked about the racial makeup of his administration. He also emphasized hiring “our people.” 
“When we say ‘our people hire our people,’ I just want to name this,” he said, pointing out how the percentage of white people in the mayor&#8217;s office had dramatically decreased during his administration making it &#8220;the most diverse administration in the history of Chicago.”
Johnson&#8217;s office later <a href="https://abc7chicago.com/post/us-department-justice-opens-civil-rights-investigation-chicago-hiring-practices-letter-mayor-brandon-johnson/16472280/">released</a> demographics of staffers in the mayor&#8217;s office, indicating 34.3% are black, 30.5% are white, 23.8% are Hispanic, and 6.7% are Asian. 
He then went on to suggest that black people should be in charge because they would govern for the greater good.  
“There are some detractors that will push back on me and say, ‘The only thing that mayor, the mayor, talks about is the hiring of black people.&#8217; No, what I’m saying is, when you hire our people, we always look out for everybody else,” he said. “We are the most generous people on the planet. I don’t know too many cultures that have play cousins. That’s how generous we are. We just make somebody a family member, right. That’s just how we are.” 
He then went on to list senior positions in his administration staffed by black people. 
&#8220;Business and economic neighborhood development, the deputy mayor is a black woman. The Department of Planning and Development is a black woman. Infrastructure deputy mayor is a black woman. Chief operations officer is a black man. Budget director is a black woman. Senior advisor is a black man. And I&#8217;m laying that out because when you ask, how do we ensure that our people get a chance to grow their business? Having people in my administration that will look out for the interest of everyone — and everyone means you have to look out for the interest of black folks, because that hasn&#8217;t happened.&#8221;
Dhillon said that these comments prompted the question of whether similar racially based hiring decisions were being made systematically throughout the city’s government. 
“Considering these remarks, I have authorized an investigation to determine whether the City of Chicago is engaged in a pattern or practice of discrimination as set forth above,” Dhillon said. “If these kind of hiring decisions are being made for top-level positions in your administration, then it begs the question whether such decisions are also being made for lower-level positions.”
Johnson responded to the investigation by saying he was proud to lead the most “diverse administration in the history of our city.”

A Virginia school district official conspired to “skirt” restrictions on transgender ideology in schools, prompting a Title IX &#8220;expert&#8221; to praise her &#8220;clever&#8221; workaround, emails shared with The Daily Wire reveal.
On January 22, 2025, Leah Bressler, Montgomery County Public Schools&#8217; Title IX compliance officer, corresponded with the Association of Title IX Administrators about ways to respond to Trump&#8217;s expected executive actions on transgender ideology. In the email exchange, obtained by Speech First and shared with The Daily Wire, Bressler proposed altering the district&#8217;s code of conduct in a way to keep its current “gender identity protections” in place. 
In response, Brett Sokolow, the chair of the advisory board for the Association of Title IX Administrators, said that he didn’t know if Bressler’s proposal would successfully “skirt” executive action, but that it may be worth it to “go down fighting.” 
The exchange, with the subject line “Implications of EO,” occurred two days after Trump’s inauguration. 
“This is just a brainstorm&#8230;.What if the system just moved to a code of conduct that provided the Title IX framework to any allegation for any reason that violated the Davis standard?&#8221; Bressler wrote. &#8220;With support services, monitoring, documentation as required in Title IX — but open the gate to entire conduct policy? Our jurisdiction has protections in our policy manual for gender identity &#8211; if the policies applied to everything equally across the board- couldn&#8217;t the system maintain the protections?”
The Davis Standard refers to federal guidelines that stipulate schools can only be held liable for sexual harassment and violations of Title IX if they have knowledge of, and are indifferent to, sexual harassment.
In response, Sokolow said that Bressler may have come up with a “clever” way to get past Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin’s (R) Department of Education, which holds that Title IX allows schools to restrict bathroom use by sex. 
“This is too state-specific for me to really be able to opine on, Leah. It&#8217;s clever, but I have no idea if it would work to skirt the limitations that VA is enacting. My suspicion is that state legislatures will punish cleverness, in the long run (see Texas). Meaning, that if school officials like you find legit ways to work around the state limitations, the state will learn from this and respond by tightening its limitations,” Sokolow replied. 
“This might be a viable strategy for you, or at least a good delaying tactic, but I don&#8217;t think it has legs in the long term. I think if it walks like a Title IX duck, it&#8217;s not going to matter what container we place it in. But, fight the good fight. I&#8217;m just giving you thoughts on whether your idea is a winner&#8230;but it might be good to go down fighting,” he added. 
That email came two days after Trump signed an executive order on “Defending Women from Gender Ideology Extremism,” which rescinded the Biden administration&#8217;s application of Title IX to gender identity. He later signed an executive order that directed federal funding away from schools that push gender ideology on students. 
Current Montgomery County Public Schools <a href="https://go.boarddocs.com/vsba/mcps/Board.nsf/goto?open&amp;id=BX9PB26040F9#" target="_blank" rel="noopener">policies</a> stipulate that students are allowed to use the bathroom or locker room of their choice based on their gender identity, meaning that males are allowed into female restrooms and changing areas.
When asked by The Daily Wire if it consults on bypassing federal regulations, the Association of Title IX Administrators said that it does “not provide legal advice.” 
“ATIXA often discusses with members the challenges of competing and unclear federal, state, and court standards, and we encourage our members to explore the contours of these challenges fully to best assess how their schools, districts, and institutions should respond to a dynamic legal environment related to sex discrimination,” the organization said. 
A similar dynamic has played out across the country as liberal school officials have resisted Trump’s efforts to purge leftist ideology from federally funded schools and empower parents concerned about political indoctrination.  
Speech First Acting Executive Director Nicole Neily called for Congress to step into the fight over Title IX.
&#8220;It&#8217;s appalling — albeit unsurprising — that Title IX administrators seem to be determined to circumvent the very laws they&#8217;re supposed to be enforcing,” Neily said. “America&#8217;s girls are little more than collateral damage in these activists&#8217; larger political war, which is why it&#8217;s imperative that Congress steps in to provide certainty and clarity and end these games.&#8221;

The vast majority of Americans support President Donald Trump&#8217;s actions to make medical prices more transparent, according to an <a href="https://www.patientrightsadvocate.org/prapollingmemomay2025" target="_blank" rel="noopener">exclusive poll</a> shared with The Daily Wire.
The poll from Echelon Insights found that most Americans, including Democrats and independents, support Trump&#8217;s February executive order that requires hospitals and insurers to display the actual costs of treatment, not just estimates. Of those surveyed, 74% of Democrats, 83% of independents, and 91% of Republicans said they supported Trump&#8217;s policy proposal.
“Voters overwhelmingly think that patients should get real, actual prices for healthcare services before they receive them – and also don’t think that is currently what patients get in our healthcare system,&#8221; pollster Kristen Soltis Anderson wrote in a memo shared with The Daily Wire. &#8220;As a result, they strongly support leaders trying to do something about the issue, enforcing radical price transparency measures and going bold on this issue.”

The poll, commissioned by PatientsRightsAdvocate.org, surveyed over 2,000 likely voters from April 21-23. The organization previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/patients-group-praises-trump-for-radical-health-care-executive-order" target="_blank" rel="noopener">rolled out</a> a billboard campaign in Times Square and outside the Department of Health and Human Services, which thanked Trump for the executive order.
In the <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/fact-sheets/2025/02/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-announces-actions-to-make-healthcare-prices-transparent/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">executive order</a>, Trump directed his administration to ensure that hospitals make “more meaningful price information available to patients to support a more competitive, innovative, affordable, and higher quality healthcare system.” Trump directed the Treasury, Labor, and Health and Human Services Secretaries to come up with guidance to enforce the transparency regulations intended to increase competition among health care providers. The goal is to mandate that hospitals list more explicitly the price of different treatments and care.
The poll also found that 96% of Americans agree that they “deserve to know the price of their healthcare before they receive it,&#8221; and over 90% agree that it wasn&#8217;t fair to require financial agreements to cover all medical costs not covered by insurance before having an accurate estimate of the cost.
Republican strategist David Kochel said that the issue of pricing transparency could be a winning issue for Republicans, saying his family was charged $15,000 for a $170 EpiPen for his son.
&#8220;Voters are tired of being blindsided by outrageous hospital bills and hidden costs,&#8221; he said. &#8220;They want real accountability and the power to make informed choices about their care. The GOP should be shouting this from the rooftops: we’re the party that fights for fairness, choice, and affordability in healthcare. By championing transparency, we side with consumers over special interests, with small businesses over big industry, and with families over the status quo.&#8221;
Last week, Trump took more <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-signs-order-to-reduce-drug-prices-tells-rest-of-world-to-pay-up" target="_blank" rel="noopener">executive action</a> on health care, signing a directive seeking to make drug prices in America comparable to the rest of the world by slashing bureaucracy.

President Donald Trump on Monday called for a &#8220;major investigation&#8221; into former Vice President Kamala Harris over accusations that she paid for the endorsements of celebrities like Bruce Springsteen and Beyoncé during her failed presidential campaign. 
In an early morning Truth Social <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/114532867603994760" target="_blank" rel="noopener">post</a>, Trump claimed Harris illegally paid for high-profile endorsements. 
“HOW MUCH DID KAMALA HARRIS PAY BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN FOR HIS POOR PERFORMANCE DURING HER CAMPAIGN FOR PRESIDENT? WHY DID HE ACCEPT THAT MONEY IF HE IS SUCH A FAN OF HERS? ISN’T THAT A MAJOR AND ILLEGAL CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTION? WHAT ABOUT BEYONCÉ? …AND HOW MUCH WENT TO OPRAH, AND BONO??? I am going to call for a major investigation into this matter,” Trump wrote.  
“Candidates aren’t allowed to pay for ENDORSEMENTS, which is what Kamala did, under the guise of paying for entertainment,” he added. “In addition, this was a very expensive and desperate effort to artificially build up her sparse crowds. The Washington Free Beacon <a href="https://freebeacon.com/democrats/lebron-james-endorsed-kamala-harris-then-she-paid-his-company-50k/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> last month that Harris’s campaign paid James&#8217;s production company $50,000 for &#8220;campaign event production.” While James did not appear at any Harris events, he did post a social media video endorsing Harris and suggesting that Trump was a racist. 
Similarly, the Harris campaign paid Beyonce’s production company $165,000 and Oprah’s production company $1 million. Beyonce spoke briefly at a Harris campaign event in Houston while Oprah did a sit-down interview with Harris in Chicago.

A former police officer was charged last week with leaking the writings of the transgender-identifying woman who murdered three children and three adults at the Covenant School in March 2023.
But retired Lt. Garet Davidson — who was arrested and jailed on May 6 — says that he&#8217;s innocent. Davidson claims he&#8217;s being retaliated against for a complaint he filed against the department criticizing its Covenant investigation in May 2024, four months after he retired.
Davidson&#8217;s May 2024 <a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/17k--mes3tmiC54vjj0uiZ9NJTsc69cau/view" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> complaint</a> against the police department alleges numerous instances of misconduct by top police officials, including mismanagement of the Covenant investigation, a pattern of bias in disciplinary investigations, altering performance results for low-achieving recruits, avoiding accountability, and failure to follow sexual harassment policies.
Davidson&#8217;s legal team believes that the charges were brought in retaliation for his efforts to expose problems at the police department.
“The charges against retired MNPD Lieutenant Garet Davidson represent a transparent attempt to discredit and silence a whistleblower who exposed serious misconduct within the Metro Nashville Police Department,” Davidson’s legal team said. “We look forward to vigorously defending Mr. Davidson against these retaliatory charges.”
Davidson has <a href="https://tennesseestar.com/news/retired-mnpd-lt-garet-davidson-claims-fbi-told-nashville-police-not-to-release-documents-from-covenant-school-killer-audrey-elizabeth-hale-investigation-pointed-to-precedent-for-document-destruction/tpappert/2024/06/04/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">been outspoken</a> about the investigation into the Covenant shooting, telling conservative radio host Michael Patrick Leahy in June 2024 that the FBI sent a memo to police instructing them not to release any details of the attacker&#8217;s writings.
At the time, Davidson said that he had some concerns that there would be action taken against him based on the information he had shared about the FBI memo.
“I don’t put it beyond anybody,” he said. “Part of the reason why I left law enforcement was to avoid some aspects of retaliation, but that doesn’t guarantee anything.”
In the charges unveiled last week, Davidson is accused of being involved in the leak of the writings of the woman who entered the Covenant School, a Christian school in an affluent Nashville neighborhood, on March 27, 2023, and murdered six people before she was killed by police.
Following the attack, the police announced that the shooter had a &#8220;manifesto,&#8221; but refused to release it to the public. Despite that refusal, media outlets, including The Daily Wire, obtained portions and uncovered that the shooter wrote frequently of her desire to be a man and anger at her parents for resisting her so-called transition.
Prior to his arrest last week, Davidson had been linked to the police department&#8217;s investigation into the leak.
His home was raided by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation in November 2024 in relation to the investigation into the leak. He faces two indictments: one charges him with theft, two counts of burglary, and 30 counts of official misconduct; the other charges him with six counts of official misconduct related to the Covenant School shooting.
The raid came after he was named in a June 2024 court filing on the leak, though he was not directly named as a leaker. That came just weeks after he filed a misconduct complaint against the police department, which included criticism of the Covenant investigation.
A GoFundMe Davidson set up to help with his legal expenses has been shut down. A spokesman for the platform told The Daily Wire that the fundraiser was removed because of its policies not to raise money for “the legal defense of financial and violent crimes, including those related to money laundering, murder, robbery, assault, battery, sex crimes or crimes against minors.”
The spokesman did not further elaborate on why the fundraiser had been shut down. A <a href="https://www.givesendgo.com/garetdavidson" target="_blank" rel="noopener">GiveSendGo</a> page has since been set up for Davidson&#8217;s legal fees.

President Donald Trump said Friday that former FBI Director James Comey knew what he was doing when he posted a picture on social media that was interpreted by many as a threat against his life.
Trump was responding to a picture Comey posted on Instagram showing seashells on a beach arranged to form the numbers “86” and “47” with the caption &#8220;cool shell formation on my walk.&#8221; Trump officials have initiated investigations into Comey, as &#8220;86&#8221; can be used as slang for killing someone, and Trump is the 47th president. Comey deleted the post, saying that he did not mean to imply that Trump should be killed and that he assumed the shells were a &#8220;political message.&#8221;
&#8220;He knew exactly what that meant. A child knows what that meant. If you’re the FBI director and you don’t know what that meant… that meant assassination,&#8221; Trump told Fox News in an interview. &#8220;And it says it loud and clear. Now he wasn’t very confident but he was confident enough to know what that meant.&#8221;

“He did it for a reason and he was hit so hard because people like me and they like what’s happening with our country,&#8221; Trump added. &#8220;Our country’s become respected again and all this. And he’s calling for the assassination of the president.”
When Fox News host Bret Baier asked what he would like to see happen to Comey, Trump said he would leave it up to Attorney General Pam Bondi.
“I think it&#8217;s a terrible thing,” Trump said. “If he had a clean history, he doesn’t, he’s a dirty cop, he’s a dirty cop. And if he had a clean history, I could understand if there’s a leniency, but I’m going to let them make that decision.”
Comey removed the post after backlash, saying he was unaware of the association of &#8220;86&#8221; with violence.
“I posted a picture earlier of some shells I saw on a beach walk, which I assumed were a political message,” Comey said. “I didn’t realize some folks associate those numbers with violence. It never occurred to me but I oppose violence of any kind so I took the post down.”

President Donald Trump said Friday that he would like to set up a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin &#8220;as soon&#8221; as possible.
Trump made the comments in Abu Dhabi as he prepared to return home to the United States at the end of his Middle East tour. He had previously floated a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Putin in Turkey, but the Russian president refused to attend.
&#8220;They all said Putin was going and Zelensky was going. And I said, If I don&#8217;t go, I guarantee Putin is not going, and he didn&#8217;t go,&#8221; Trump said. &#8220;And I understand that, but we&#8217;re going to get it we&#8217;re going to get it done. We&#8217;ve got to get it done. Five thousand young people are being killed every single week on average, and we&#8217;re going to get it done.&#8221;
While Ukrainian and Russian officials are meeting in Turkey on Friday, Trump said he believed he would have to meet with Putin to make real progress toward ending the war.
Trump said that he plans to meet Putin &#8220;as soon as we can get it set up,&#8221; noting that he had planned to meet with Putin and Zelensky after wrapping up his visit to the United Arab Emirates. He added that he wanted to go back to America to see his new grandson, whom his daughter, Tiffany, gave birth to on Thursday.
&#8220;I do want to see my beautiful grandson, a son, and we&#8217;ll be doing that, but I will, I will tell you that the world is a much safer place right now,&#8221; Trump told reporters. &#8220;And I think in two or three weeks we could have it be a much, much safer place. We&#8217;re going to handle a couple of situations that you have here. We have some very serious situations.”
Zelensky and Ukrainian negotiators are meeting in Istanbul with Putin&#8217;s representatives for talks supervised by Turkish Defense Minister Hakan Fidan. While it will be the first talks between the warring nations since 2022, American officials don&#8217;t expect much to come from the meeting.
&#8220;We don&#8217;t have high expectations of what will happen tomorrow. And frankly, at this point, I think it&#8217;s abundantly clear that the only way we&#8217;re going to have a breakthrough here is between President Trump and President Putin,&#8221; Secretary of State Marco Rubio said.

An elderly pro-life man who was brutally beaten outside of a Baltimore Planned Parenthood says he&#8217;ll keep fighting until his attacker is behind bars, even though the city is “dragging its feet” bringing him justice.
Nearly two years ago Mark Crosby, 75, was beaten alongside 86-year-old Richard Schaefer as they stood outside Planned Parenthood and urged women not to get abortions. Patrick Brice, their 28-year-old attacker, is set to be retried at the end of the month after he dodged a first-degree assault charge in March while being convicted of lesser assault charges. 
“They want us to get hurt again so we go away. But I’m not going away until this guy goes to jail,” Crosby told The Daily Wire. “I’m so prepared, I’m ready for battle, ready to win.”
Brice is set to be retried on May 28 for the first-degree assault charge that he dodged during his trial back in March. Crosby said he was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/pro-lifer-beaten-outside-of-planned-parenthood-surprised-after-no-verdict-on-key-charge">surprised</a> that the previous jury couldn’t come to a consensus because he saw them groaning and looking away while footage of the attack played. 
Footage released by the Baltimore Police Department <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDMYSWHJuNM&amp;rco=1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">shows</a> Brice tackling Schaefer into a potted plant after an argument outside Planned Parenthood. As Crosby ran up to assist Schaefer, Brice turned and shoved Crosby to the ground, punching him in the face before standing up and kicking him in the face before walking off. 
Crosby was treated after the attack for a fractured bone in his face, blindness in one eye, head and neck pain, two fractured fingers, and bruising on his arms and legs.
“We also want this [treated as] a hate crime because he ripped off my crucifix which was around my neck, it ended up in the bushes,” Crosby told The Daily Wire. “It was definitely a hate crime also, but these Baltimore City state attorneys are dragging their feet on everything.”
The Office of the State’s Attorney for Baltimore City told The Daily Wire that it does not comment on pending cases when reached for comment on if there were any plans to bring hate crime charges against Brice.
Crosby said that during the first trial, Brice’s lawyer accused the elderly pro-lifers of directing a racial slur at him, which he said helped to get the jury on his side. He said that he wasn’t allowed to respond to those allegations or point out that most of the babies they have saved over the years have been black. 
He also said the judge the first time around didn’t allow him to show his eye to the jurors. This time he said his representative plans to bring an eye doctor and a shock trauma doctor to testify about the extent of his injuries. 
Since the day of attack, Crosby and Schaefer have continued to return to the Planned Parenthood where Crosby says they have had their lives threatened numerous times. He says that he has contacted the police, but they tell him that the threats against him are protected speech.
Now, just days before Brice heads to trial again, Crosby is convinced that there is no &#8220;equal protection under the law in Baltimore City.&#8221;

The Justice Department on Thursday asked the Supreme Court to rein in federal district court judges by restricting their ability to issue nationwide injunctions.
Solicitor General John Sauer asked the court to limit the scope of federal judges&#8217; ability to issue nationwide injunctions, saying the courts have overstepped the authority given to them in Article III of the Constitution. The case stems from three universal injunctions that were placed on an executive order from President Donald Trump directing his administration not to grant birthright citizenship to children born to illegal immigrants residing in the United States.
“It is a feature, not a bug of Article III, that courts grant relief to the people who sue in front of them,” Sauer said as he took questions from the justices. “So the notion that relief has to be given to the whole world because others who have not taken the time to sue are not before the courts is something that results in all of these problems.”
Sauer said that universal injunctions lead to “rampant forum shopping,” “require judges to make rushed, high-stakes low information decisions,” and “force government to win everywhere,” while those challenging the government only need to win at one court.  
In a press call on Tuesday, a Justice Department official noted that 35 of the 39 total universal injunctions issued against the Trump administration have come from the same five courts: the districts of Massachusetts, Maryland, Washington, D.C., Northern California, and Western Washington.
Justices largely focused on procedural questions and only touched lightly on whether Trump&#8217;s executive order on birthright citizenship was legal. The liberal wing of the court, including Justice Sonia Sotomayor, kept asserting that Trump&#8217;s actions to restrict birthright citizenship were unconstitutional.
Sotomayor also took issue with Sauer&#8217;s arguments that injunctions should only apply to the parties that specifically sued. She claimed that a president could hypothetically ban all guns, and each gun owner would then need to seek individual relief if the court were to take the Justice Department&#8217;s position.
On the other side, Justice Clarence Thomas, one of the most conservative members of the court, appeared very skeptical of universal injunctions in his questions.
“So we survived until the 1960s without universal injunctions?” Thomas asked Sauer. 
“That’s exactly correct,&#8221; the solicitor general replied. 
Justice Brett Kavanaugh also pushed Sauer to discuss how Trump&#8217;s executive order on birthright citizenship would be carried out. Sauer replied that the administration never got the opportunity to develop its framework because it was blocked just days after the order was issued.
Trump weighed in on the case from the Middle East, posting on Truth Social that birthright citizenship was meant for slaves, and not for &#8220;people pouring into our Country from all over South America, and the rest of the World.&#8221;
