A Supreme Court decision on Friday will allow the Trump administration to work with states to verify voters&#8217; citizenship. 
The 6-3 <a href="https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/25pdf/26a308_pok0.pdf">ruling</a> allows state officials to use an expanded version of a federal database to verify that registered voters are citizens. The database, known as the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) program, was created in 1986 to check the immigration status of noncitizens applying for public benefit programs and has been used by states for voter verification since 2005. The Trump administration expanded it to include Social Security records and allow officials to check many voters at once. 
Attorney General Todd Blanche <a href="https://x.com/AGToddBlanche/status/2103557217748504767">celebrated</a> the order. 
“Huge victory for election integrity! The Supreme Court granted [the Justice Department]’s stay in revamping the SAVE citizenship verification database, which will allow states to clear the voter rolls of illegal voters,” he said. “The modified SAVE system allows state and local officials to conduct citizenship verification of registered voters to keep aliens from voting.”
“The Justice Department will continue fighting in court for secure elections. Every American should want this!” Blanche added. 
The impact on this year&#8217;s midterms is likely to be limited. With the November 3 general election less than 40 days out, states are already inside the 90-day window in which federal law prohibits systematic purges of ineligible voters.
The Department of Homeland Security expanded the SAVE program in May 2025, following an executive order President Donald Trump signed that March as part of his push for more election safeguards. Several liberal election groups, including the League of Women Voters, challenged the program&#8217;s expansion. As a result, a federal district judge in Washington blocked the modified program in June, and the federal appeals court declined to pause the ruling.  
Friday&#8217;s order pauses the district court&#8217;s ruling while the case proceeds on appeal. It is not a final decision on whether the expanded program is legal.
“All agree that the order prevents the Federal Government from using the modified SAVE program to conduct individualized inquiries, which are permitted under federal law during this period,” the court wrote in an unsigned opinion. “The District Court’s order thus inhibits the Federal Government’s efforts to assist state and local agencies in the proper administration of the midterm elections.”
The Supreme Court&#8217;s decision on Friday came from the court&#8217;s six conservative justices. Liberal Justices Ketanji Brown Jackson, Sonia Sotomayor, and Elena Kagan dissented, arguing that expanding the SAVE program would harm the American public.
Jason Snead, the executive director of the conservative group Honest Elections Project, praised the Supreme Court’s order. 
“The Supreme Court got it right,” he said. “Once again, left-wing interests are doing everything they can to block states from verifying citizenship on the eve of a federal election, and for the second time in a week they have lost in court. This is a major win for election integrity.”

A New Jersey Democrat who rose to his position thanks to Governor Mikie Sherrill is facing calls to resign after a report accused him of making comments about “young sperm” to a female staffer. 
Sherrill and other top Garden State Democrats called for Lt. Governor Dale Caldwell to step down after an <a href="https://prod-i.a.dj.com/public/resources/documents/Caldwell.pdf">ethics report</a> found evidence he engaged in sexual harassment and attempted to get a promotion for his lover. Caldwell, a Methodist pastor and former university president, was picked by Sherrill to be her running mate in July 2025. 
“The investigation fully examined the evidence, followed the facts, and protected everyone’s privacy. In my Administration, we are committed to doing what is right, not what is politically expedient,” Sherrill said on Thursday. “The Lieutenant Governor’s resignation is necessary and in the best interest of New Jersey residents.”
The report was conducted by law firm Lowenstein Sandler at the request of the governor’s top ethics officer. 
Released Thursday, the report said it found “credible evidence” that Caldwell “made a romantic advance toward a female staffer&#8217;s friend.” After being shot down, the report said Caldwell told the staffer, “You young women are looking for young sperm.&#8221;
This comment caused the staffer “to change the way she interacted with [Caldwell] at work, to attempt to distance herself from him, and to avoid travel with him when possible,” the report said.
While Caldwell denied making the comment, the report said investigators did not find his denial credible. 
The report noted two additional ethical violations it substantiated against Caldwell, including a finding that he “attempted on multiple occasions to secure a promotion for a state employee with whom he had a romantic relationship.”
According to investigators, Caldwell admitted he did not disclose his relationship with the employee when making the promotion requests. 
Investigators also said that Caldwell “brought personal guests to ticketed events without advance ethics clearance and without payment or reimbursement.” He continued the practice even after receiving “formal and informal guidance,” according to investigators. 
Caldwell has strongly <a href="https://www.insidernj.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/Revised-Caldwell-Press-Release.pdf">denied</a> all wrongdoing, and his legal team said the report was &#8220;character assassination.&#8221;
“This unnecessarily protracted and one-sided process lacked the requisite due process that should be afforded every citizen of this state,” his lawyer Thomas Calcagni said. “The Lieutenant Governor was not provided a meaningful opportunity to address each of these anonymous allegations or offer readily identifiable witnesses who possessed more pertinent, first-hand knowledge of the events in question.”

Fifty years ago, a Republican congressman from Illinois named Henry Hyde took action to successfully protect American dollars from being used to end the life of an unborn child. 
To honor the lawmaker&#8217;s legacy, Senator James Lankford (R-OK) on Friday introduced a resolution calling for the continued support of the Hyde Amendment, a measure prohibiting the use of federal dollars to fund abortions. Lankford credits the amendment with saving over 2.5 million babies, according to a copy of a resolution first obtained by The Daily Wire. 
Lankford’s resolution marks the 50th anniversary of the passage of the Hyde Amendment on September 30, 1976. Since that time, the Hyde Amendment has been repeatedly passed, ensuring that federal dollars are not paying for abortions. In recent years, some Democrats have pushed to end the amendment and force Americans to pay for abortions. 
“For 50 years, the Hyde Amendment has been an important protection for American taxpayers. Every child is valuable. No American should ever wonder if the check they&#8217;re sending to the IRS on April 15 will be used to pay for someone’s elective abortion,” Lankford told The Daily Wire. “Hyde was a bipartisan agreement five decades ago, and it has been included in appropriations bills every year since. We should keep that commitment in place.”
The resolution says its purpose is to recognize the Hyde Amendment’s “enduring legacy of saving the lives of more than 2,600,000 unborn children and respecting the conscience rights of the American people.” It adds that it wants to “encourage the people of the United States to reflect upon the history and significance of the Hyde Amendment and the loss of 63,000,000 babies through abortions that have taken place since Roe v. Wade.”
Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ) introduced a companion resolution in the House. 
“I had the honor of serving alongside Rep. Hyde in the House for more than two decades, and I can personally attest to his unrivaled brilliance, unparalleled compassion, and unwavering commitment to protecting and defending the rights of the unborn—the weakest and most vulnerable among us,” he said.

The Hyde Amendment, supported by members of both parties at the time, came three years after the Supreme Court ruled that there was a constitutional right to an abortion — a decision that would later be struck down by the high court in 2022. 
‘‘We who seek to protect that most defenseless and innocent of human lives, the unborn — seek to inhibit the use of federal funds to pay for and thus encourage abortion as an answer to the human and compelling problem of an unwanted child,” Hyde said at the time. 
In recent years, the Hyde Amendment has faced challenges from Democrats who have floated appealing the amendment. In 2019, then Senator Kamala Harris called for Hyde to be repealed claiming it was blocking access to &#8220;reproductive health care.&#8221;  Those efforts have so far fallen flat when Democrats controlled Congress and would likely require a 60-seat majority in the Senate.
Earlier this year, President Donald Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-says-republicans-should-be-flexible-on-rule-that-bars-taxpayer-funded-abortions">suggested</a> that Republicans should be “a little flexible on Hyde.” 
“You have to be a little flexible on Hyde, you know that. You’ve got to be a little flexible,” Trump said. “You’ve got to use ingenuity. You’ve got to work. We’re all big fans of everything.”
Despite that comment, Trump has moved to keep dollars from going toward abortions. The president <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/01/enforcing-the-hyde-amendment/">signed</a> an executive order in January 2025 to enforce the Hyde Amendment and crack down on taxpayer funding for abortion. 
There still appears to be some federal dollars paying for abortions. A <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/exclusive-obamacare-plans-use-taxpayer-dollars-for-abortions-watchdog-finds?topStoryPosition=undefined&amp;author=Mary+Margaret+Olohan&amp;category=Exclusive&amp;elementPosition=1&amp;row=1&amp;rowHeadline=Top+Stories&amp;rowType=Top+Stories&amp;title=EXCLUSIVE%3A+Obamacare+Plans+Use+Taxpayer+Dollars+For+Abortions%2C+Watchdog+Finds">recent report</a> from the Government Accountability Office found that almost a quarter of Affordable Care Act plans cover abortions. Some lawmakers argues this violates the provisions of the Hyde Amendment.

A Pennsylvania children’s doctor is dead after a crazed man broke into his home at night and attacked him and his wife with a knife. 
Dr. Idris Evans and his wife woke up just after midnight on Thursday in their home in Edgewood to find themselves attacked by a knife-wielding man in his underwear and claiming to be God, <a href="https://www.wpxi.com/news/local/man-charged-with-edgewood-double-stabbing-that-left-upmc-doctor-dead-his-wife-critically-injured/YM2VVCJPIBDVRGFZSTKAMX7VLI/">according</a> to court documents. Evans, a 46-year-old doctor at the UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, died from his wounds and his wife was hospitalized with serious injuries. 
The couple&#8217;s young children escaped to a neighbor&#8217;s house as they fought back against their attacker.
“It was a very violent scene. The bedroom furniture broken, mirrors broken. It was a very graphic scene,” said Allegheny County Police Department Assistant Superintendent Victor Joseph.

Police identified a 32-year-old man named Elijah Hemingway as the suspected murderer. He has been charged with murder, aggravated assault, burglary, and criminal trespass.
Joseph said investigators believe Hemingway entered through a rear window of the home. Court documents <a href="https://www.wpxi.com/news/local/man-charged-with-edgewood-double-stabbing-that-left-upmc-doctor-dead-his-wife-critically-injured/YM2VVCJPIBDVRGFZSTKAMX7VLI/">obtained</a> by WPXI show that Evans’ wife described their attacker as “psychotic” and rambling about being God. 
Hemingway was found in a nearby yard with cuts on his hands. Police arrested him and took him to a nearby hospital to be treated for his wounds. 
&#8220;I was going to walk out in the backyard, and then all of the officers rushed through the backyard, so I just kind of stayed back, and they proceeded, I would say a good hour they were back there, and they found him. It&#8217;s pretty dark back there. Once they found him, he appeared to be bleeding and incapacitated,&#8221; neighbor Sandra Trappen <a href="https://www.wtae.com/article/upmc-childrens-doctor-dies-stabbing-allegheny-county-edgewood/73868670">told</a> Pittsburgh&#8217;s Action News 4.
The New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/09/25/us-news/pennsylvania-dr-idris-evans-stabbed-to-death-by-intruder-suspect-elijah-hemingway/">reported</a> that Hemingway had previously been arrested for burglary and theft back in February but that he had been released on non-monetary bail. 
Joseph said police are working to identify if there was any relationship between Evans and Hemingway. Evans’ wife reported him referring to their attacker as “Elijah” but said she didn’t know if their assailant said his name earlier during the incident. 
The UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh <a href="https://www.wtae.com/article/upmc-childrens-doctor-dies-stabbing-allegheny-county-edgewood/73868670">said</a> it was “deeply saddened” over the incident. 
“Dr. Evans was a dedicated caregiver and valued member of our hospital and university communities,” the hospital said in a statement. “Our thoughts are with his family, loved ones, and colleagues during this difficult time. We ask that their privacy be respected.”

An OpenAI agent “infiltrated” an Australian government website in an incident that first went undetected. 
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said Wednesday that an OpenAI agent hacked into a government healthcare website on June 18 and accessed non-public files. Albanese blasted OpenAI’s handling of the breach, saying that the artificial intelligence company did not notify Australia of the incident until this month. 
“I want to update Australians on an incident in which an artificial intelligence agent has infiltrated an Australian government website,” Albanese said. “No personal information is believed to have been accessed at this stage, but investigations are ongoing.”
Albanese said the breach involved data from a government healthcare website administered by Services Australia, a government agency that administers the country&#8217;s healthcare programs. He said that both public and non-public information was accessed during the incident, which took place on June 18. 
The prime minister said he spoke with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and called the incident &#8220;obviously unacceptable.&#8221; 
“I also expressed my disappointment that it took the company way too long to inform the government what had occurred, and the nature of the way that notification occurred as well was unacceptable,” he added. 
Albanese said that the government, which did not detect the breach, was only notified on September 10 by OpenAI. He said the breach occurred after an OpenAI research team looking into medical spending started using an internal model that bypassed the Services Australia website after initially being denied access. OpenAI said it noticed the “misaligned model activity” during a review, adding that no patient records were accessed.
Albanese said that AI was “changing the world,” but that “humans must remain in control.”
“It is bringing enormous economic opportunity for growth, for productivity benefits, for breakthroughs in health, in innovation and other areas of science,” he said. “But AI also poses significant risks, and that&#8217;s why we need guardrails to protect our way of life.”
The emergence of advanced AI technologies has triggered international debate over what role the government should play in the increasingly influential field. The Trump administration has largely taken a pro-AI approach and has expressed skepticism over large AI companies&#8217; requests for government regulations and apocalyptic messaging.

A liberal school district issued guidance in late August that directed teachers not to “associate” the devastating 9/11 attacks “with Islam or Muslims.”
Now, conservative legal group America First Legal is demanding answers from Fairfax County Public Schools in Virginia after it <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/school-district-tells-teachers-to-not-link-9-11-attacks-with-islam-fight-anti-muslim-bias">issued guidance</a> to teachers ahead of the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terror attacks, focusing on combating “anti-Muslim bias.” The guidance downplayed Islam’s links to the attacks and focused on building “safe spaces” for Muslim students. 
The district, just outside of Washington, D.C., is located only miles away from where Islamic hijackers affiliated with Al Qaeda crashed a plane into the Pentagon, killing over 180 people. The county is a deep blue enclave, with over 65% of voters backing Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election. 
America First Legal <a href="https://aflegal.org/press-release/america-first-legal-launches-investigation-into-fairfax-county-public-schools-over-teacher-guide-that-falsifies-and-obstructs-the-origins-and-ideology-of-the-9-11-terrorists/">announced</a> Wednesday that it would be requesting all communications and documents related to the creation of the guidance. The public records request, filed earlier this month, seeks to determine how the guide was created and whether there were any outside influences. 
“Fairfax County Public Schools is attempting to sanitize history and erase the radical Islamic terrorism that struck our nation on September 11, 2001,” said America First Legal Counsel Will Scolinos. “Those unforgettable attacks are a national tragedy, with effects far exceeding ‘Islamophobia.’ Parents and the public must have full transparency regarding who is responsible for stripping truth from our children’s classrooms.”
The guidance, first <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/pentagon-witness-blasts-virginia-school-districts-vanilla-9-11-teacher-guide">reported</a> on by Fox News, focused more on addressing supposed racism than on reflecting on the deadly attacks. 
“Do not focus a commemorative learning experience about 9/11 on an examination of Islam. Students deserve consistent and meaningful learning about world religions, and about Muslim perspectives and contributions, throughout their K-12 experience,” teachers in the county were told. “But teachers who decide to take a deep dive into world religions as part of their 9/11 lesson unintentionally send the harmful message that Islam, or all Muslims, are responsible for these terrorist attacks.”
While recognizing that the attacks were carried out by Al Qaeda, the guidance from Fairfax County said its ideology should not be linked to “Islam or to Muslims as a religious community.” Teachers were also told to “intentionally include Muslim Americans among the heroes, helpers, and victims represented in your teaching about 9/11.”
In contrast to Fairfax County, Texas has approved new curriculum standards that ensure students are taught the connection between the 9/11 attacks and radical Islam. The history standards in Texas will also discuss the violence surrounding the emergence of Islam.

A federal judge blocked President Donald Trump from denying three liberal news outlets from accessing the White House. 
Judge Timothy Kelly <a href="https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.dcd.296754/gov.uscourts.dcd.296754.24.0_1.pdf">put</a> a 14-day block on Trump’s ban of CNN, MS NOW, and Politico while litigation on the case continues. Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-hits-back-after-lefty-outlets-prep-lawsuit-over-white-house-ban?author=Leif+Le+Mahieu&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=9&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Trump+Hits+Back+After+Lefty+Outlets+Prep+Lawsuit+Over+White+House+Ban">announced</a> a ban last week on the outlets, saying they had pushed “fake news.”  
Kelly, appointed by Trump during his first term, wrote in his early Thursday morning order that the media outlets would likely succeed on their claims that they were denied due process when their passes were revoked. The judge also dismissed Trump’s arguments that the outlets were banned for national security purposes. 
“For another — and simply put — the record lacks factual support for Defendants’ contention that the revocation of Plaintiffs’ hard passes will in fact protect national security or that national security will be endangered if the Court orders their passes reinstated while this litigation proceeds,” Kelly wrote. 
Kelly has a history of ruling against Trump, including in cases related to media access to the White House. Back in 2018, he <a href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/2018/11/16/cnn-white-house-credential-court-case/2023035002/">sided</a> with CNN in a case over former reporter Jim Acosta’s access to the White House. He also sentenced Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio to 22 years in prison for seditious conspiracy over his links to the January 6 riot. Tarrio was not in D.C. on the day of the incident. 
CNN, MS NOW, and Politico collectively sued on Monday arguing that the Trump administration was violating their First Amendment rights. 
In a <a href="https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.dcd.296754/gov.uscourts.dcd.296754.16.0.pdf">filing</a> responding to the lawsuit, the Trump administration noted that “access to the White House is a privilege — not a right.”
“The President’s actions must be sustained because the President has ‘compelling interest[s]’ in enforcing minimum standards for bona fide journalists and safeguarding national security information. At the very least, the Government may control reporters’ access to restricted presidential areas, such as the Oval Office, even for viewpoint-discriminatory reason,” the White House argued. 
The filing argued that the three outlets had published classified information and were endangering national security. 
On Monday, Trump suggested that other outlets may soon lose access to the White House.
“The White House is not instituting an assault on the Free Press, something which I cherish. It is instituting an assault on the FAKE NEWS, something that has grown like Cancer in our beloved United States of America. It is corrupt, purposeful, pervasive, fully coordinated, and totally out of control. It is a threat to our National Security, and must be stopped,” Trump posted on Truth Social. 
A preliminary hearing is expected on the case before the two week block of the ban elapses.

The oil industry is pushing back after President Donald Trump floated a temporary ban on diesel exports to deal with skyrocketing prices. 
Trump told reporters Tuesday that he might look at placing an oil export embargo on diesel as a response to rising prices as the war with Iran continues. The average price for a gallon of diesel rose above $6 for the first time ever in September. 
“I’ve called for that, too. I said, ‘Let’s not send out the diesel.’ We make a lot of diesel. I’ve called for it — I’ve called for it with my people,” Trump said during a trip to the United Nations on Tuesday, adding that a decision on a possible embargo would be coming soon. 
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent confirmed that the administration was considering the possibility with diesel prices driving up costs across the board. Despite Bessent&#8217;s comments, Energy Secretary Chris Wright appeared skeptical on Wednesday during comments at a climate event that an export ban would actually lower prices.
Politico reported Wednesday that the administration was considering a 90-day diesel export ban, but the White House said the story was &#8220;fake.&#8221;
Oil executives and industry spokesmen have pushed back on the idea, arguing that it would harm the economy in the long term. 
“Bad idea,” Steven Pruett, the CEO of oil company Elevation Resources, <a href="https://www.wsj.com/business/energy-oil/trumps-oil-allies-see-nightmare-scenario-of-diesel-export-ban-becoming-reality-16973ae2?mod=hp_lead_pos1">told</a> The Wall Street Journal. “Ultimately, it will backfire on American consumers as it will disrupt the natural flow of oil and petroleum products.”
Another oil industry executive told the Journal that it would harm overseas customers.

Despite industry pushback, some Republicans have echoed calls for an oil embargo.

Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) called for a similar export ban while prices remain elevated, as has Iowa Republican Senate candidate Ashley Hinson.

A convicted child molester who now criss-crosses North Carolina as a gay activist is becoming a regular problem for North Carolina Democrats. 
In 2024, The Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/exclusive-video-shows-dem-ag-candidate-hugging-convicted-sex-offender-after-receiving-lgbtq-award">reported</a> that a Democrat running for North Carolina attorney general gave a full embrace to a <a href="https://sexoffender.ncsbi.gov/details.aspx?SRN=008345S1">registered</a> sex offender during an awards ceremony. A year earlier, we reported that the same molester was given awards by two of the state&#8217;s most prominent pro-LGBTQ organizations.  
Now we can report that Chad Turner, the molester, once posed directly to the side of Roy Cooper, the former North Carolina governor who is now the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate.

He remained an advisor for the group, and later <a href="https://qnotescarolinas.com/chamber-celebrates-holidays-honors-community-members/">returned</a> to leadership.

At the event, Cooper spoke out about his opposition to a law known as the “bathroom bill” that kept gender-confused men out of women’s bathrooms. Cooper <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/brutal-ad-hits-dem-senate-hopeful-over-defense-of-men-in-womens-bathrooms">signed</a> a repeal of the law once he became governor, calling it “mean-spirited” and “a stain” on the state’s reputation. 
“The [bathroom bill] repeal was an important first step in fighting discrimination and making sure the nation knows that North Carolina is open for business,” the governor said at the chamber of commerce event. 
Cooper is running against Republican candidate Michael Whatley to replace outgoing Senator Thom Tillis. The race could prove pivotal for control of the Senate as Republicans attempt to hold onto their narrow majority. Republicans have highlighted Cooper&#8217;s record as governor when he vetoed laws to shield kids from transgender procedures on minors and keep boys off girls&#8217; sports teams. 
Three teenage boys came forward in 1998 accusing the then 20-year-old Turner of fondling them when he worked as a music minister at New Harvest Church of God in Gaffney, South Carolina. 
One 14-year-old victim said he woke up to Turner fondling him while sleeping at his house. The boy said that Turner had previously asked him what he would think about a man performing oral sex on him, <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20160313221333/http://www.goupstate.com/article/20000720/NEWS/7200320?p=2&amp;tc=pg&amp;tc=ar">according</a> to reporting from the time. 
Another 15-year-old boy said that Turner showed him pornography and said the man fondled him when he stayed at his home. A third 15-year-old boy said Turner similarly molested him when he stayed at his home for several weeks. 
Turner ended up being convicted of one count of committing a lewd act on a child under the age of 16. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison in July 2000, but was <a href="https://www.dailymail.com/news/article-13093009/Powerful-LGBTQ-advocacy-group-Human-Rights-Campaign-welcomes-man-know-convicted-PEDOPHILE-gala-previously-handing-prestigious-award.html">released</a> after just two years behind bars. He is still on the state&#8217;s sex offender registry list. 
Turner, who, like Cooper, also <a href="https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2016/03/07/convicted-sex-offender-leads-transgender-rights-effort-north-carolina/">fought against</a> the bathroom law, now runs the Carolinas LGBT+ Chamber of Commerce organization. He did not respond to request for comment. 
When asked about the appearance alongside Turner, a spokesman for Cooper&#8217;s campaign accused his Republican rival of being associated with sex offenders.
“While Roy spent his career putting rapists and violent criminals behind bars and signing tough on crime laws as governor, Michael Whatley has continued to knowingly appoint, campaign with and elevate convicted child sex predators who spent time in prison,&#8221; a spokesman for Cooper&#8217;s campaign told The Daily Wire.
Cooper has attacked Whatley over his association with Harvey Lee West, a sex offender who held a leadership post in the state Republican party while Whatley led it.
Local fact-checkers have largely <a href="https://www.wral.com/news/nccapitol/fact-check-whatley-appointed-convicted-sex-offender-nc-gop-chair-march-2026/">dismissed</a> the attack as frivolous, given that West was first appointed before Whatley was in his position. West himself says the two of them were at odds with each other in the Republican Party, telling the fact-checkers, &#8220;Whatley did not like me.&#8221; West once backed Whatley&#8217;s opponent to lead the state GOP.
Republicans have also pushed back on Cooper&#8217;s claims he was tough on crime as governor, pointing to a deal he <a href="https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2026/09/14/meet-sexual-predators-child-rapists-democrat-roy-cooper-released-prison/">approved</a> as governor that released dozens of rapists from prison over COVID concerns.
Asked about Cooper&#8217;s allegation, Whatley&#8217;s campaign brought up those decisions.
&#8220;There is only one person in this race who released rapists, pedophiles, and child molesters from prison to go on to terrorize North Carolinians: Roy Cooper. Cooper released 232 rapists, sex offenders, child predators, and molesters as governor. 99 then went on to be rearrested for rape, sexual assault, and child pornography charges,&#8221; said DJ Griffin, a spokesman for Whatley.
&#8220;Roy Cooper failed at his most basic job to protect our kids and keep North Carolinians safe,&#8221; he added.

In December 2022, Turner <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/exclusive-video-shows-dem-ag-candidate-hugging-convicted-sex-offender-after-receiving-lgbtq-award">presented</a> an award to North Carolina Democrat attorney general candidate Jeff Jackson for “advancing equity.” Footage of the event, which was obtained by The Daily Wire in October 2024, showed Turner hugging Jackson. Despite the revelation, Jackson would go on to defeat Republican Dan Bishop in November 2024 to become attorney general of North Carolina. 
Turner was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/charlotte-pride-lists-child-sex-offender-as-lgbtq-award-recipient">chosen</a> in August 2023 by Charlotte Pride to win a 2023 Harvey Milk Award for LGBT activism. The organization called Turner a “highly accomplished leader in human resources” whose career has been “driven by a deep commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).” His name was later scrubbed from the Charlotte Pride website after backlash for awarding a child sex offender.

A former Harvard president who stepped down after facing an avalanche of plagiarism allegations will teach a class on higher education at the prestigious school this fall. 
Claudine Gay will teach multiple classes this year, including one called “What is a University?: Purpose and Politics in Higher Education” to examine the internal politics of academia. Gay’s teaching at Harvard comes more than two years after she resigned as president after being accused of plagiarism and mishandling anti-Israel protests. 
Gay’s class will “encourage Harvard students to engage in critical thinking about their own institution and to understand the background political, social, and market pressures that influence their college experience,” according to a copy of the syllabus <a href="https://www.wsj.com/us-news/education/harvard-university-claudine-gay-class-cf6ce2c3?mod=hp_lead_pos8">obtained</a> by The Wall Street Journal. 
It will also examine the “complexity and the inevitable conflict and contestation that result” from competing interests at universities. To complete the course, students will be asked to “propose a vision for institutional reform or reinvention.”
The class will involve readings related to controversies at Harvard, including the institution’s ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and the history of slavery.
Gay was president of Harvard for only about six months, leaving the position in January 2024. Her sudden departure followed <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/harvards-gay-accused-of-6-more-instances-of-plagiarism-in-new-complaint">complaints</a> identifying nearly 50 instances of plagiarism across eight of her 17 published works. The departure came at the same time she faced increasing pressure over her handling of anti-Israel protests on campus. In one viral exchange, Gay hedged her answer on whether calling for genocide would be considered harassment. 
Gay blamed “racial animus” for the controversy surrounding her leadership in her resignation letter. 
“Amidst all of this, it has been distressing to have doubt cast on my commitments to confronting hate and to upholding scholarly rigor — two bedrock values that are fundamental to who I am — and frightening to be subjected to personal attacks and threats fueled by racial animus,” she <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/claudine-gay-to-resign-as-harvard-president-report?author=Hayden+Daniel&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Claudine+Gay+Resigns+As+Harvard+President%2C+Claims+%E2%80%98Racial+Animus%E2%80%99+Fueled+Criticism">said</a> at the time. 
Despite her ignominious departure as president, Gay stayed on with the university in a research and teaching role. Most of her academic work has focused on racial topics.

The back-and-forth over Missouri’s midterm election maps continues with the Supreme Court poised to consider the case one more time.
Justice Brett Kavanaugh <a href="https://www.supremecourt.gov/Search.aspx?FileName=/docket/docketfiles/html/public%5C26a388.html">indicated</a> Tuesday night that the high court will look at the case for a third time after a federal appeals court on Monday directed maps favorable to the GOP to be used in the November elections. Kavanaugh <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/supreme-court-hands-gop-another-loss-in-election-map-battle?author=Leif+Le+Mahieu&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Supreme+Court+Hands+GOP+Another+Loss+In+Election+Map+Battle">previously</a> granted a request from a Left-wing group to block use of the Republican-friendly maps. 
The outcome of the case could shape the outlook of Congress as Republicans look to cling to their slim majority in the House. The battle revolves around whether the map used in November gives Republicans an expected 7-1 or 6-2 advantage in the House. 
The 7-1 map was used in the state’s primary election and was passed by the legislature in 2025. The 6-2 map is an older map passed in 2022 that a Left-wing group wants the state to use. 
On Monday, the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals directed Missouri officials to use the 7-1 maps, ruling that it was unconstitutional for different maps to be used in the primary and general election. 
“This Court holds that Missouri’s current plan to use the 2022 map in the November 2026 general election violates the Constitution. Only use of the 2025 map complies with the Constitution and federal law,” the court wrote. 
The court said that many Missourians would be forced to vote on candidates who did not appear on their primary ballot and that using the old maps invalidated their primary votes. 
“The result is that, if the 2022 map is used in the November 2026 general election, some Missouri voters will have more say than others on who represents them in Congress,” the court said. “As a result, a majority of residents in the Fifth Congressional District had no voice in who will appear on their November 2026 ballot; they will be forced to choose from nominees selected by a minority of residents in the district as well as voters who are no longer in the district.”
A leftist group called People Not Politicians challenging the new maps filed an emergency appeal with the Supreme Court asking the justices to clarify what the latest decision from the appeals court means for the state. The <a href="https://www.supremecourt.gov/DocketPDF/26/26A388/425276/20260922233012092_2026.09.22%20Von%20Glahn%20v.%20Hoskins_%20Emergency%20Stay%20Application.pdf">filing</a> argued that new maps should not be used since early voting under the old maps had already started. 
In response, Kavanaugh gave Missouri officials until 2 p.m. on Wednesday to respond to the appeal. 
The saga over Missouri’s maps has stretched on for weeks as courts have issued conflicting orders on the maps. The map favored by Republicans was set to carve up a Kansas City area House seat represented by Democratic Rep. Emanuel Cleaver.

The anti-fraud task force led by Vice President JD Vance took action on Tuesday to shut down hundreds of thousands of fraudulent Obamacare accounts costing taxpayers billions of dollars. 
The White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud will eliminate about 750,000 Obamacare enrollments identified as fraudulent, Vance said Tuesday. The action will also include a crackdown on insurance brokers and agents suspected of abusing the program. 
“We&#8217;re actually making sure that people receiving Obamacare subsidies are actually entitled to receive them,” Vance said at a press conference announcing the action. “Amazingly, we weren&#8217;t doing that before.”
The Wall Street Journal, which first <a href="https://www.wsj.com/politics/policy/vance-led-task-force-set-to-remove-760-000-allegedly-fraudulent-obamacare-enrollments-0fbb72d7?st=hAB9kk">reported</a> on the action, noted that the accounts being removed include individuals who were enrolled in the program without their knowledge, have healthcare coverage through their work, or exceed the income limits set to be eligible for enrollment in Obamacare. 
Vance noted that additional verification was being conducted on another 400,000 enrollments to ensure legal residency and income.
The action from the task force will also include the removal of hundreds of insurance brokers suspected of abusing the system to make money off fake enrollments. Vance said that one brokerage ring of 40 people fraudulently funneled around 50,000 people into Obamacare enrollment. 
“Most of those people were not eligible. Either they didn&#8217;t meet the citizenship or the income requirements. Many of those people, quite literally, didn&#8217;t even exist,” Vance said. “We had a system in this country that rewarded brokers, that made people rich, for enrolling fake people in programs that are meant to ensure that our fellow citizens have healthcare.”
The Journal reported that 66 insurance agents have been blocked from the program already and another 469 are expected to be added to the list. 
Enrollment in Obamacare doubled under former President Joe Biden, rising from about 10 million people to 24 million. That came as the federal government eased eligibility requirements to be involved in the program. With the spike in enrollment has come an increase in fraud and abuse, according to federal investigators. 
The anti-fraud task force has so far identified over $245 billion in suspected fraud and taken over two dozen documented actions to crack down on rampant fraud, <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/fraud/">according</a> to a White House website.
