In the weeks before the election, Virginia Democrats told voters that they condemned political violence and that Jay Jones was remorseful about his desire to shoot a Republican.
But hours after they won, their tune changed. Louise Lucas, the president pro tempore of the Virginia state Senate, appeared to suggest that she wasn&#8217;t angry with Jones for making the comments so much as she was angry that Virginians found out thanks to a &#8220;snitch.&#8221;
&#8220;Virginia is for lovers, not snitches,&#8221; she <a href="https://x.com/lashrecseaird/status/1985925971837403338">posted</a> on social media, alongside an artificial intelligence-generated video showing Jones <a href="https://x.com/SenLouiseLucas/status/1985915607540216144">kicking his opponent</a>, Jason Miyares, who was depicted as a dog.
The &#8220;snitch&#8221; comment appeared to be a reference to Carrie Coyner, a Republican delegate who Jones sent his murderous texts to, and who confirmed their authenticity to the National Review for a story that upended the election.
Coyner, the most moderate member of either chamber, was subject to a vicious campaign accusing her of &#8220;betrayal&#8221; by Don Scott, a Democrat who replaced Todd Gilbert – the man Jones wanted to shoot in the head – as House Speaker.
Scott is a convicted crack dealer, while Lucas operates a marijuana shop. The &#8220;snitch&#8221; meme was also reposted by Sen. Lashrecse Aird. All are members of the state&#8217;s Black Caucus, as is Jones. The &#8220;snitches&#8221; meme echoes the phrase &#8220;snitches get stitches,&#8221; a phrase used by inner city thugs to describe their practice of assaulting people who speak to the police.
The characterization implies that many people knew about Jones&#8217;s desire for political violence, but kept their mouths closed until Coyner, as Scott said from the pulpit of a black church and in a campaign ad, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/betrayed-virginias-house-speaker-targets-recipient-of-jay-jones-violent-texts?author=Luke+Rosiak&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=5&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=‘BETRAYED’%3A+Virginia’s+House+Speaker+Targets+Recipient+Of+Jay+Jones’s+Violent+Texts">&#8220;betrayed&#8221;</a> them.

The idea that Democrats were functioning with a Mafia-like code of omertà would also implicate Governor-elect Abigail Spanberger, who, at a debate, blamed the Jones scandal on Republicans who &#8220;held them for years so the public was unaware who had knowledge of these text messages,” implying she had no way of knowing about his tendencies until the primary had already concluded. But it would stand to reason that Jones would not conceal his hatred of Republicans from his fellow Democrats, yet be open about it with Republicans themselves.
After the National Review&#8217;s October 4 story showing that Jones wanted to put two bullets in the head of the Republican speaker and watch his children die, Democrats refused to disavow Jones, while saying that they opposed his rhetoric. After the assassination of Charlie Kirk and the attempted assassinations of President Donald Trump, being tied to such rhetoric seemed like a political liability. But Jones won with <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/jay-jones-who-fantasized-about-murdering-republicans-will-be-virginias-next-attorney-general?author=Luke+Rosiak&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=0&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Jay+Jones%2C+Who+Fantasized+About+Murdering+Republicans%2C+Will+Be+Virginia’s+Next+Attorney+General">53% of the vote</a>, only 2.5% behind the Democrat candidate for lieutenant governor, suggesting there might be little penalty among Democrat voters after all. The &#8220;snitches&#8221; comment wasn&#8217;t the only way that showed.
On October 30, the campaign bus of Republican gubernatorial candidate Winsome Sears caught fire, and Lucas said, &#8220;I&#8217;m glad to hear <a href="https://x.com/SenLouiseLucas/status/1983954336162926873">no one was hurt</a>.&#8221; As soon as Virginians cast their votes, her tune changed: She posted a doctored photo of <a href="https://x.com/SenLouiseLucas/status/1986088323517927625">herself standing by the bus</a>.

Lucas also echoed, rather than repudiated, violent political imagery after the election by reposting a comment that Lucas &#8220;planted that foot in [Gov. Glenn Youngkin&#8217;s] ass and ended his career.&#8221;
Lucas also reposted a comment calling her &#8220;ruthless,&#8221; and said she intends to redistrict the state (where Republican candidates received 43%, 45%, and 47% of the vote on Tuesday) has only a <a href="https://x.com/SenLouiseLucas/status/1985946539311702233">single Republican</a> in Congress.
That would involve a similarly ruthless move. Democrats enacted a 45-day early voting period, which caused some people to vote before learning about Jones&#8217; support for violence. But for purposes of amending the Constitution to get rid of nonpartisan redistricting – which requires giving voters the chance to punish politicians at the ballot box for trying such a move – they ignored the fact that many had already cast ballots before they initiated the controversial move, counting only Tuesday as the &#8220;election.&#8221;
Outgoing Attorney General Miyares issued an opinion saying that it would be illegal, but Lucas <a href="https://x.com/SenLouiseLucas/status/1983333834138759316">said,</a> &#8220;Your opinions are sh&#8211;. They&#8217;re f&#8211;king s&#8211;t.&#8221;
Lucas and Scott will be two of the most important figures in Virginia because, more surprisingly than Democrats&#8217; clean sweep of statewide races, Scott&#8217;s House of Delegates picked up 13 seats, going from a bare majority of 51 to 64, within spitting distance of a veto-proof supermajority. It was only 10 years ago that Republicans held a supermajority.
All of that means that the Democrats in today&#8217;s Virginia legislature are not like the Democrats of old. One who won a downballot race is Elizabeth Guzman, who once said parents should be criminally prosecuted for child abuse if they did not &#8220;affirm&#8221; their children as transgender. Guzman faced off against a fellow incumbent, Republican Ian Lovejoy, in his Prince William district due to redistricting. She defeated him 55%-45%.
In 2020, Guzman, a social worker, introduced a bill that redefined the term “abused or neglected child” to include one whose parent “inflicts, threatens to create or inflict, or allows to be created or inflicted upon such child a physical or mental injury on the basis of the child’s gender identity or sexual orientation.&#8221;
In 2022, she <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/virginia-democrat-bill-would-criminally-prosecute-parents-who-dont-affirm-their-kids-as-transgender">reintroduced</a> it and clarified that “It could be a felony, it could be a misdemeanor, but we know that CPS charge could harm your employment.&#8221; At the time, the bill was dead on arrival because Republicans controlled the House.
The situation is now very different.

Governor Glenn Youngkin (R-VA) tore into Virginia Attorney General-elect Jay Jones — who won Tuesday’s election despite the cloud of scandal that threatened to engulf him — on Wednesday, saying that he was no less concerned about Jones’ ability to carry out the duties of his office in an unbiased manner.
Youngkin mentioned the scandal that had followed Jones, stemming from <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/is-the-virginia-way-dead-ag-jason-miyares-breaks-down-whats-really-at-stake-in-jay-jones-race">text messages</a> he’d sent three years earlier that advocated the assassination of then-state House Speaker Todd Gilbert, a Republican, and suggested that Gilbert and his wife should have to watch one of their young children die.

“I am incredibly concerned about the Attorney General-elect’s ability to do the job based on the texts that he sent. They were abhorrent, and I think that they, once again, reiterate that you can’t come into this job if you are espousing death on a political enemy, the death of children, and the death of law enforcement,” Youngkin posted on X.
“And I believe, just as I&#8217;ve always believed that that disqualifies him for the job,” the governor continued. “The next administration&#8217;s going to have to figure out how to deal with that because they have law enforcement, that they&#8217;re going to need to make sure, feel good about doing the job. They&#8217;re going to have to make sure that parents with children feel safe.”
“And that’s going to be a challenge going forward. My position has not changed; that there is absolutely no excuse for what he wrote. None. And we live in a society today that I think has lost its way, at least some folks have, on their willingness to almost accept violence and political violence as a solution,” Youngkin concluded.
Republican gubernatorial candidate Winsome Earle-Sears lost her bid for the governor’s mansion on Tuesday, meaning that Youngkin will soon be replaced by Democrat <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/spanberger-still-sells-merchandise-with-jay-joness-name-despite-attempts-to-distance-campaigns">Abigail Spanberger</a>, who initially condemned Jones’ text messages, but stopped short of calling for him to step away from the race.

Topline: On Tuesday night, Democrats scored a number of significant victories in statewide races across New York, New Jersey, Virginia, and California. 
Republicans were facing an uphill battle. The party in control of Washington almost always struggles in off-year elections, and the biggest races were in blue states. But there’s no doubt Democrats in many ways exceeded expectations as they easily won both gubernatorial races in Virginia and New Jersey, passed a significant ballot measure in California, and scored an overwhelming mayoral victory in New York City.
New York City: NYC’s election was defined by an enormous turnout. By 5 p.m., four hours before polls closed, there had already been more votes cast than in any mayoral race in more than three decades. That enthusiasm benefitted one man, Zohran Mamdani. The self-avowed socialist trounced former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa by significant margins.
Republicans intend to make the best of a bad situation, however. Many of Mamdani’s policies are wildly unpopular nationwide, so the GOP will likely work to promote him as a new standard-bearer for the Democratic Party.
New Jersey: Democrat Mikie Sherrill scored a decisive victory over Republican challenger Jack Ciattarelli, with the race being called within the first hour of polls closing.
This election was decided by women. According to exit polls, Ciattarelli won with male voters by a comfortable six-point margin. Among female voters, Sherrill won by a stunning 20-point margin.
Democrats also won big on two of the most important issues, healthcare and the economy. Exit polling showed that nearly half of New Jersey voters listed those issues as their top priority. Sherrill won those folks by a more than 2-to-1 margin. Much like Donald Trump, Ciattarelli did best among working-class voters and white men.
Virginia: Democrats’ candidates for governor, lieutenant governor, and attorney general all came out on top. The governor’s race ended up a blowout, with Abigail Spanberger defeating Republican Winsome Earle-Sears handily. The last few votes were counted early Wednesday morning, and it appeared to be among the largest margins of victory for a Democrat gubernatorial candidate in the state in decades.
Republicans ultimately struggled to drive turnout in the state’s deep red rural counties, while Spanberger ran up the score in heavily populated blue counties near Washington, D.C., outpacing former Vice President Kamala Harris’s performance from a year ago.

Topline: This election cycle has highlighted a growing appetite for socialism among young Democrats and the growing influence of progressives over the Democratic Party.
Socialism takes NYC: Mamdani won the NYC mayoral race, which is not altogether surprising in a deep-blue city like New York. And there’s an argument to be made that Cuomo could have pulled out a win if he hadn’t split the anti-Mamdani vote with Sliwa. But regardless, the Democratic Party has given its tacit or explicit approval of Mamdani. For as radical as Mamdani is to the mainstream of American politics, he faced essentially no public resistance from Democrats. House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries even endorsed him.
Still, many Democrats didn’t appear pleased with Mamdani. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer never <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/11/04/us/politics/chuck-schumer-zohran-mamdani-endorsement.html">endorsed</a> him. Neither did former President Barack Obama, though Obama did <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/11/01/nyregion/zohran-mamdani-barack-obama-election.html">call</a> Mamdani to compliment his campaign. All of this speaks to a tension these politicians see between Mamdani as a broadly unpopular figure, but very popular among the Democrats’ left-wing base, which, with Mamdani’s win, is in its ascendency.
Loyalty over decency: In Virginia, Spanberger never distanced herself from the Democratic nominee for state attorney general, Jay Jones, despite his scandals. The Washington Post wrote in a Monday evening <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2025/11/03/virginia-election-governor-spanberger-sears-jay-jones/">editorial</a>: “If Jones rides Spanberger’s coattails to victory, it would be a sad reflection of a discomfiting willingness among voters to prioritize partisanship over human decency.”
This is currently a trend in Democratic politics. In Maine, Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner hasn’t felt Democratic backlash, except within his own campaign staff, from having a Nazi tattoo.
Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, an independent, dismissed Platner’s tattoo last month. “Between you and me, there might be one or two more important issues,” Sanders told Axios.

Topline: The government is still shut down, potentially causing major problems for upcoming holiday travel and delaying SNAP benefits for tens of millions of Americans.
The Senate voted on a continuing resolution that passed the House, and for the 14th time, it failed. Only two Democrats, Pennsylvania’s John Fetterman and Nevada’s Catherine Cortez-Masto, voted alongside Republicans to open the government.
Dem’s message: Democrats say it’s Republicans who are keeping the government shut down, and they are essentially arguing that the shutdown is happening because Republicans aren’t on board with certain healthcare subsidies.
“There’s nothing to be optimistic about, relative to the cruelty and the pain that Donald Trump and Republicans continue to inflict on the American people,” Jeffries <a href="https://x.com/RepJeffries/status/1985755754540708251">said</a> on Tuesday. “They refuse to address the health care crisis that Republicans have created.”
GOP’s message: Republicans have stuck to their original message —that the CR bill is “clean,” maintaining current funding levels without any policy changes. Democrats refusing to vote for it are clearly the ones keeping the government shut down.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) also said that Democrats want to force American taxpayers to fund healthcare for illegal immigrants, and that’s why there is a stalemate.
“In addition to their refusal to vote for the CR and reopen the government, the Democrats have had the audacity to demand something new. They demanded $1.5 trillion with a ‘T’ in new spending obligations,” <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C321Cds5qIY">said</a> Johnson. “Included in that is nearly $200 million of taxpayer funds that they want to use to restore free health benefits to illegal aliens.”
Shutdown on air travel: Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said on Tuesday that if the government shutdown continues, air travel will be severely restricted during the holiday season.
“You will see mass flight delays. You&#8217;ll see mass cancellations, and you may see us close certain parts of the airspace, because we just cannot manage it because we don&#8217;t have the air traffic controllers,” <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6jxpszDOrQA&amp;list=RDNS6jxpszDOrQA&amp;start_radio=1">said</a> Duffy.
Shutdown on SNAP: Trump said on Tuesday that a potential delay for this month’s SNAP benefits will continue for 42 million Americans until the “Radical Left Democrats” reopen the government, which he said they can “easily do” at any time. USDA’s main website similarly says they don’t have funds to distribute benefits because of Democrats.
Trump’s message comes one day after the administration said it would dip into emergency funds to <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/US/trump-administration-partially-fund-snap-months/story?id=127138175" target="_blank" rel="noopener">partially fund</a> SNAP with a $4.65 billion payment, following a federal judge’s order. A court filing said that the process could take “a few weeks to up to several months.”

Democrat Jay Jones prevailed over incumbent Attorney General Jason Miyares in Virginia, a shocking end to a race upended with revelations that Jones had fantasized about murdering his political opponent and his children.
Jones is expected to cruise to victory alongside Democrat <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/democrats-take-back-virginia-governors-mansion-as-spanberger-cruises-to-victory?topStoryPosition=undefined&amp;author=Tim+Pearce&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=1&amp;row=1&amp;rowHeadline=Top+Stories&amp;rowType=Top+Stories&amp;title=Democrats+Take+Back+Virginia+Governor%E2%80%99s+Mansion%2C+As+Spanberger+Cruises+To+Victory">Abigail Spanberger</a>, the governor-elect. The Democrats&#8217; victories come after a campaign that was upended in October, when <a href="https://www.nationalreview.com/news/dem-ag-nominee-jay-jones-fantasized-about-shooting-former-virginia-gop-speaker-he-receives-both-bullets/">National Review</a> reported that Jones had texted a Republican state lawmaker in 2021 that if he had two bullets and Adolf Hitler, Pol Pot, and the state&#8217;s top Republican in a room, he&#8217;d shoot the Republican twice. He said he wanted to see the children of then-Virginia House of Delegates Speaker Todd Gilbert die in their mother&#8217;s arms, because it would help him politically.
He reportedly also said he hoped that police would die for similar reasons.
On Tuesday, the story shifted from Jones to everyday Virginians. Did they agree with him? Did they find the rhetoric permissible? As of 9 p.m., 52% of Virginians said yes.
The Democrat candidate for lieutenant governor, Ghazala Hashmi, was at 55% of the vote, so only about three percent appeared to be Democrats who split a ticket because they did not support Jones&#8217;s violent hatred.
In one pre-election poll, 3% of Democrats said Jones&#8217; comments actually made them more likely to vote for him, while almost all of the rest said that the comments didn&#8217;t bother them enough to make them vote for the alternative.
It looks like Democrats will have full control of the three statewide offices plus both chambers in the legislature, even though the state is evenly enough split that in 2021, Miyares won with 50.4% of the vote.
On October 7, Miyares told The Daily Wire that the election would determine whether the bipartisan collegiality that historically characterized the state was still alive.
“I think this election now is really a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/is-the-virginia-way-dead-ag-jason-miyares-breaks-down-whats-really-at-stake-in-jay-jones-race">referendum</a> on the Virginia Way,” he observed. “Is it now dead? Because I could tell you 10 years ago, it would have been unquestioned, not in a million years would anybody even consider — but there seems to be this mindset that power is more important than decency.”
He has said one woman told him she would be voting for the Democrats on the ballot, except for Jones, because she viewed it as a &#8220;test of decency.&#8221; She was, apparently, the exception.
The revelations were a black mark on the idea of early voting. Thanks to a 45-day voting window pushed by Democrats using coronavirus as a pretext, some people had already cast their votes by the time they learned of Jones&#8217; murderous fantasies.
Jones was also convicted of driving 116 miles an hour, and performed his community service at his own PAC — something for which he is now under investigation.
After the texting scandal broke, Jones received especially vocal <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/virginia-dems-say-candidate-who-fantasized-about-murdering-gop-leader-is-better-than-republicans">backing</a> from the state&#8217;s Black Caucus, which dumped millions of dollars into his race.
Jones felt no remorse for his comments until as recently as last month, when he blamed Donald Trump and Miyares for his text messages, calling it a &#8220;smear.&#8221; He was vaguely more apologetic after Abigail Spanberger, the Democrat candidate for governor, put pressure on him, as he threatened to bring down the whole ticket.
Jones faced a difficult task in demonizing Miyares, whose record was already well-known from his relatively calm term as AG over the last four years. Instead, he sought to turn his own race into one that was a referendum on the presidency, repeatedly pivoting to discuss Donald Trump in his debate against Miyares.
Jones is the son of elites — his father was a Virginia politician and judge — while Miyares&#8217; parents fled communist Cuba.
In Virginia, most criminal prosecutions fall under the auspices of county prosecutors, who are independently elected. But the attorney general&#8217;s office has jurisdiction over key areas, including election cases and corporate wrongdoing.

Democrats are back in control of Virginia, just four years after Republican Glenn Youngkin shocked the political world by winning the governor&#8217;s mansion. 
Democrat congresswoman Abigail Spanberger was declared the winner by most major decision desks within an hour of the polls closing, with Decision Desk HQ <a href="https://x.com/DecisionDeskHQ/status/1985864768939249790">calling</a> the race soon after polls closed. 
Spanberger was favored to win the race over Republican Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears. The former U.S. representative led Earle-Sears by between seven and 15 points in four late polls released on Monday, according to <a href="https://www.realclearpolling.com/polls/governor/general/2025/virginia/spanberger-vs-earle-sears">RealClearPolling</a>. for Spanberger as returns began to show a flip in the governor&#8217;s mansion from red to blue.
Spanberger had a few fundamental advantages over Earle-Sears. As a Republican, Earle-Sears was disfavored from the start as the Virginia governor’s race rarely goes to a member of the same party as whoever won the White House the previous year. Since 1976, only once has that trend been broken. 
Virginia had been declared a blue state before Youngkin won over former governor Terry McAuliffe in 2021, in an election that was driven by <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/loudoun-county-schools-tried-to-conceal-sexual-assault-against-daughter-in-bathroom-father-says">parents outraged</a> over what was happening in Virginia schools. In one Loudoun County school, a sexual assault carried out by a skirt-wearing boy was covered up by administrators, who actually carried out punishments against the parent of the student victim.
President Donald Trump also remains unpopular in Virginia, having lost the state in three consecutive presidential elections. Spanberger spent much of her campaign running against the White House incumbent rather than taking Earle-Sears on directly.
Spanberger also had a heavy advantage in ad spending over Earle-Sears. The Democrat and her allies <a href="http://v">spent</a> roughly $50 million on ads ahead of Tuesday’s contest, according to data from AdImpact. In contrast, Earle-Sears and her allies spent about $25 million.
“There’s more than a two-to-one spending advantage, Spanberger over Sears. And at some point, it’s just hard to come back from that amount of political spending differential,” Cygnal polling founder Brent Buchanan told <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/episode/mrn-251104-member-exclusive?elementPosition=1&amp;row=4&amp;rowHeadline=Morning+Wire&amp;rowType=Horizontal+Show+Episodes+Carousel">Morning Wire</a> ahead of the election.
Earle-Sears appeared to get a residual bump as scandals exploded further down the ticket involving Democrats’ nominee for attorney general, Jay Jones. The boost appeared to be short-lived as coverage of the scandal dropped off in the media, leaving Earle-Sears and her out-funded Republican allies to push the news out to voters.
When the race was called, the attorney general contest was still considered too close to call. Decision Desk HQ, which projects the final vote total as the votes come in, predicts that the race between Jones and incumbent Jason Miyares will come down to just a few percentage points.
Spanberger, a former CIA operative, was first elected to Congress in 2018.

Topline: It’s Election Day, as millions of voters will make their voices heard and offer new insights into the looming midterms.
This could well be a rough night for Republicans. The party in control of Washington almost always does poorly in off-year elections, and the biggest races are in blue states or cities. But conservatives are still hopeful they can pull off some upsets. 
New Jersey: Republicans’ best shot appears to be in New Jersey. Republican Jack Ciattarelli has stormed back from a 20-point deficit to challenge Democrat Mikie Sherrill. The latest polling has him within the margin of error in a state where Donald Trump got within six points last year.
If he is to win today, he must have an enormous turnout from his base and win the majority of independents. New Jersey has nearly a million more registered Democrats than Republicans, and based on the latest data, Democrats have already cast about 220,000 more mail-in ballots. Ciattarelli is already digging out of a hole.
Virginia: Virginia appears to be a safer bet for Democrats, with their nominee, former Rep. Abigail Spanberger, holding about a ten-point lead over Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears in most polls. Republicans were hopeful that the texting scandal involving Attorney General nominee Jay Jones would drag Spanberger down, but, despite her refusal to retract her endorsement of Jones, she is holding steady.
California: California’s Prop 50, known as the Election Rigging Response Act, was proposed by Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom and would suspend the state’s current congressional map and authorize a partisan-led redrawing of districts. The ballot measure essentially allows Democrats to add up to five new Democratic seats.
The proposal has drawn outrage from Republicans around the country, but it looks almost certain to pass. That could have major ramifications in a very closely divided D.C.

Topline: New Jersey residents hit the polls today to elect their next governor. The increasingly close race pits Sherrill against Ciattarelli, who’s hoping to flip the Garden State red.
The race to be the next governor of the Garden State is razor-thin. Most polls are within the margin of error.
New Jersey is considered a blue state. Residents have voted for the Democratic presidential candidate in every election since 1992. The outgoing governor, Phil Murphy, is a Democrat. And, Sherrill, up until recently, had a very substantial lead over Ciattarelli.
<a href="https://www.nj.com/politics/2025/11/jack-ciattarelli-will-win-njs-red-hot-governors-race-on-tuesday.html">More than a million New Jersey residents</a> have already voted, but Republicans tend to show up on Election Day, and the weather forecast is clear.
Obama tags in: Former President Barack Obama campaigned for Sherrill over the weekend, hoping to get her over the finish line, which many in the GOP have interpreted as the Democrats being worried. Much of Obama’s pitch was about Trump.
“It&#8217;s hard to know where to start because every day this White House offers up a fresh batch of lawlessness and carelessness and means spiritedness and just plain old craziness,” <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTVhhGCfxvM">said</a> Obama.
Trump factor: The president has enthusiastically endorsed Ciattarelli, calling him a great candidate who’s “all-in” on the MAGA agenda. As for Ciattarelli, he hasn’t shied away from Trump’s embrace, but there has been some nuance in his positions because he is campaigning in a blue state.
Ciattarelli says he will repeal the state’s board “sanctuary” policy on illegal immigration on Day One, but he also indicated that whatever it is the local “mayor and police chief decide to do to keep their community safe,” he’d be on board with.
Major issues: Economic issues are top of mind for New Jersey voters. GOP activist Scott Presler <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/new-jersey-is-100-in-play-scott-presler-on-the-cycles-most-interesting-election">told</a> The Daily Wire that this race is “100% in play” and he called this an “economic election.” Presler said New Jersey voters “are being crushed by property taxes” and “electricity taxes,” in particular. Ciattarelli has really focused on those issues and criticized Democrats for their energy policies. 
Cultural issues and parental rights are also playing a factor. Sherrill took some heat for saying she would mandate an LGBTQ curriculum in public schools and suggesting that parents don’t have a right to opt out of that.
She is also facing negative press over a reported $7 million in profits from stock trades while in Congress. She was fined for violating the STOCK Act. There’s also a cheating scandal from 1994 during her Naval Academy days.

Topline: Polls are open this morning in New York City, and Zohran Mamdani, a self-proclaimed democratic socialist, appears poised to win the mayoral race.
Mamdani’s chances: Most of the major polling shows margins range from 10 to 25 points in Mamdani&#8217;s favor. He’s winning between 44% and 50% support compared to former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who’s getting around 25% to 34% and Republican Curtis Sliwa is pulling about 15% to 21%.
A new poll out yesterday from Atlas-Intel did show a tighter race though, giving Mamdani only a 6.6% lead over Cuomo. But the betting markets are tilted heavily toward Mamdani. Polymarket has Mamdani at a 95% chance of victory.
President Trump on Monday urged voters in New York City to back Cuomo over “communist” Mamdani.
What Mamdani means: Clearly, the younger generation is much more open to socialism than older generations. According to a recent survey, only 31% of young Democrats today have a positive view of capitalism, a 23-point drop since 2010. Mamdani is running on rent freezes, free city buses and free childcare, even government-owned grocery stores with fixed prices.
Another point to take is how immigration is impacting the political landscape. Polling data shows that the bulk of Mamdani’s support is coming from foreign-born voters. For New York voters born outside the U.S., Mamdani draws 62%. Cuomo only gets 24%, and Sliwa receives 12%.
For American-born New Yorkers, we see something of an inverse of these numbers. With them, Cuomo holds an eight-point lead over Mamdani.
Worth noting also that Mamdani would be New York’s first Muslim mayor and his positions on Israel have concerned many Jewish Americans. He’s refused to recognize Israel as a Jewish state and to condemn the phrase &#8220;globalize the intifada.&#8221;
Many are concerned that he represents a growing acceptance of antisemitism on the political Left.
Democrats are wary: Major Democratic party figures are sending mixed messages on Mamdani. Obama, the ultimate Democratic figurehead, called Mamdani personally and offered to be a “sounding board” for him. But never officially endorsed him.
Most other national Democrats seem to be splitting the difference in messaging somewhat, too. Mamdani has won some key endorsements from Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY). But Jeffries only endorsed at the last minute and said he doesn’t believe Mamdani represents the Democrats&#8217; future.

The biggest question facing election analysts in Tuesday’s contests in New Jersey and Virginia is whether or not the “ticked-off, younger, diverse working class voters” for President Donald Trump in 2024 show up for Republicans again, according to polling expert Brent Buchanan.
Buchanan, president of the polling group Cygnal, told Morning Wire in an interview ahead of Tuesday&#8217;s elections that Republicans face an uphill battle to win the governors’ seats in New Jersey and Virginia, but the fight is winnable.
In New Jersey, Republican Jack Ciattarelli is running against Democratic Rep. Mikie Sherrill. While Sherrill has led in the polls, the latest data <a href="https://www.realclearpolling.com/polls/governor/general/2025/new-jersey/sherrill-vs-ciattarelli" target="_blank" rel="noopener">shows</a> the race is neck-and-neck. An Atlas Intel poll released on Saturday shows Sherrill up over Ciattarelli by just one point, 50 to 49.
The New Jersey race will come down to the unknown: whether or not Trump’s coalition of voters will return to the polls to vote Republican again. While Trump lost the state by six points in 2024, the margin was a massive improvement from the 16-point loss he suffered in 2020.
“The more Hispanic areas, the non-white, working-class areas of the state that made New Jersey a purple state during the 2024 presidential election,” need to show up <a href="https://newjerseymonitor.com/2024/12/20/final-election-results-show-scope-of-trumps-success-with-n-j-latino-communities/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">again</a> for Republicans, said Buchanan.
“The challenge that we&#8217;re seeing in polling right now in both New Jersey and Virginia is that that coalition of the ticked-off, younger, diverse, working class voters … they&#8217;re still pretty ticked off, and so does that mean that they show up and reluctantly vote Republican? Or do they stay home out of protest?” the pollster said.
The Virginia gubernatorial race, as reflected in polling, is a much more challenging situation for the Republican, Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears. Democratic former Rep. Abigail Spanberger led Sears by between seven and 15 points in a slate of polls released on Monday. Across each poll, Spanberger’s level of support never dipped below 50%, according to <a href="https://www.realclearpolling.com/polls/governor/general/2025/virginia/spanberger-vs-earle-sears">RealClear Polling</a>.
For Sears to win, “a lot of pieces have to fall into place,” Buchanan said.
“The southwest, which is the more rural Republican parts, have to come out in droves” beyond what they did for Trump in 2024, he said. Sears also needs to keep pace in Virginia’s Hampton Roads region in the state’s east along the shore.
“The Election Day turnout in the suburbs and urban areas of the state have to be pretty darn low,” Buchanan said.
The Virginia races have been affected by the scandals of the Democratic nominee for state attorney general, Jay Jones. Jones’ support by polling has taken a meaningful hit since he was revealed to have sent text messages in 2022 <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/read-them-virginia-dem-sent-shocking-texts-about-killing-gop-leader-pissing-on-graves">wishing</a> harm against then-Virginia House Speaker Todd Gilbert, a Republican, and his children, saying that, “Only when people feel pain personally do they move on policy.”
Spanberger has largely brushed off the scandals plaguing the Democratic attorney general nominee, refusing to pull her endorsement for the embattled Jones. The scandal appeared to drag down the gubernatorial nominee in polling, as well. Spanberger has contained the damage with an overwhelming money advantage over Sears and with the help of a media climate that has largely stopped covering Jones’ texts, according to Buchanan.
“There&#8217;s more than a two-to-one spending advantage, Spanberger over Sears. And at some point, it&#8217;s just hard to come back from that amount of political spending differential,” the pollster said.
According to Buchanan, Republican candidates in both states will continue to have a shot at winning as long as Republicans show up to vote, no matter what polls suggest.
“Republicans can win when we actually go out and vote,” said Buchanan. “I think that&#8217;s one of the things that our voters do wrong. They see a poll that shows, well, maybe we don&#8217;t have a chance and so they don&#8217;t go vote. Democrats don&#8217;t act like that. They show up regardless. And if we adopt that attitude, we can win some of these really tough elections, too.”

To kick things off, here&#8217;s everything you need to know about the races we&#8217;ll be watching.
<h2>Virginia</h2>
Republican Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears is running against former Democratic Rep. Abigail Spanberger. Republican John Reid is running against Democrat Ghazala Hashmi for Lt. Gov., and Republican Attorney General Jason Miyares is running against Democrat Jay Jones. Virginians will also elect members to the Virginia House of Delegates, which currently has a 51-48 Democratic majority.
The races have focused largely on issues such as immigration, education, taxes and public safety. Many polls show Spanberger leading Earle-Sears, and the Attorney General’s race as a complete toss-up.
However, the attorney general’s race became the focal point of the statewide races after Jones was revealed to have sent text messages suggesting violence against former Republican House of Delegates Speaker Todd Gilbert in 2022.
“Three people, two bullets. Gilbert, Hitler, and Pol Pot. Gilbert gets two bullets to the head,” Jones wrote in one of the texts. Jones has since apologized for the comments, but the controversy led to questions about whether Spanberger would still back Jones.
“We are all running our individual races,” Spanberger said during a debate when asked if she was still backing Jones.
Speaking to The Daily Wire on the eve of the election, Earle-Sears <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/winsome-earle-searss-final-pitch-in-virginia-common-sense-will-win?author=Cameron+Arcand&amp;category=undefined&amp;elementPosition=0&amp;row=3&amp;rowHeadline=Latest+News&amp;rowType=Vertical+Carousel&amp;title=Winsome+Earle-Sears%E2%80%99+Final+Pitch+In+Virginia%3A+%E2%80%98Common+Sense+Will+Win.%E2%80%99">pitched herself</a> as the common sense candidate, and predicted she would carry the state because voters crave safety and security. She also slammed Spanberger for attempting to run as a moderate while voting with the extreme wing of the Democrat Party while in Congress, and for refusing to denounce Jones and pull her endorsement.
&#8220;Abigail Spanberger cannot be governor,&#8221; she said. &#8220;She&#8217;s politically calculating and cunning. I used to think it was cowardice but I see now, no — she wants power, she wants control, and so she refuses to say the right thing which is to tell Jay Jones to get out of the race.&#8221;
Former Vice President Kamala Harris won the state in 2024, and former President Joe Biden won it in 2020, but Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin, Earle-Sears and Miyares won in 2021.
<h2>New Jersey</h2>
Democratic Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill and Republican Jack Ciattarelli are in a tightening race to replace Democrat Governor Phil Murphy.
Ciattarelli ran against Murphy in 2021 and came close at 48% to Murphy’s just over 51%. President Donald Trump has vocally endorsed the Republican, including calling on the Orthodox Jewish community to back him over the weekend.
“I need ALL of my supporters in the Orthodox community in Lakewood and its surrounding towns to vote in HUGE numbers for Jack Ciattarelli. Jack will be a GREAT Governor, and has my Complete and Total Endorsement — He will never let you down!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“Jack needs every single Vote in the community, including all the Yeshiva students who turned out to vote for me last year. Your Votes in this Election will save New Jersey, a State that is near and dear to my heart,” he added.

The New York City mayoral race has become a national phenomenon with the three-way contest between Democrat Zohran Mamdani, Republican Curtis Sliwa, and former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who lost the Democratic primary but is now in the race as an independent.
More than 735,000 New Yorkers have turned out for early voting, marking a record turnout. Polling has consistently shown Mamdani ahead, and he’s become known for socialist policy proposals including freezing rent, grocery stores owned by the local government, and scrapping bus fares.
According to his platform, he also wants the minimum wage in the city to increase to $30 by the year 2030.
As for Cuomo, the campaign has served as an attempt at a political comeback following his resignation over sexual harassment allegations in 2021.
His successor, Gov. Kathy Hochul, has backed Mamdani instead, as Trump said in a “60 Minutes” interview that he&#8217;s “not a fan of Cuomo one way or the other, but if it’s going to be between a bad Democrat and a communist, I’m going to pick the bad Democrat all the time to be honest with you.&#8221;
As for Sliwa, the Guardian Angels founder has campaigned on cracking down on crime and housing policy reforms.
“My plan to save NYC starts day one. I’ll make city agencies work efficiently to keep communities safe, clean, and affordable. I’ll fund every precinct to lower crime, improve schools, protect the SHSAT, and lower the cost of living. I’ll be the mayor who helps you stay here and builds a future better than ever for all of us,” Sliwa posted to X on Sunday.

Proposition 50 would give the state permission to redraw congressional district maps until 2030 in order to favor Democrats. The move was put forward by leading Democrats in the state to counteract a move by Texas to redraw their maps to favor Republicans.
According to the California Secretary of State’s<a href="https://voterguide.sos.ca.gov/quick-reference-guide/50.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> website</a>, the “pro” argument is that it “approves temporary, emergency congressional district maps to counter Donald Trump’s scheme to rig next year’s congressional election and reaffirms California’s commitment to independent, nonpartisan redistricting after the next census.”
On the side against the ballot measure, the argument is that the proposition is “dismantling safeguards that keep elections fair, removes requirements to keep local communities together, and eliminates voter protections that ban maps designed to favor political parties” and says it was “written by politicians, for politicians.”
The “no” side has been significantly outspent by proponents of the measure, which includes Gov. Gavin Newsom and Rep. Nancy Pelosi, former Speaker of the House. Donors include insurance giant Blue Shield of California, which gave $500,000 to Newsom&#8217;s ballot measure committee, The Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/a-health-insurance-giant-quietly-bankrolls-gavin-newsoms-partisan-power-grab?author=Amber+Jo+Cooper&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=2&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=A+Health+Insurance+Giant+Quietly+Bankrolls+Gavin+Newsom%E2%80%99s+Partisan+Power+Grab" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> last week.
“If Texas had backed off, California would have backed off,” Pelosi wrote last week on X. “But Trump insisted on Texas starting this fight — so California will meet this moment and win BIG on Tuesday to defend our health care and our democracy.”
Rep. Kevin Kiley (R-CA) wrote on X on Monday that Californians should “Vote NO because voters, not politicians, should choose the destiny of our state.”
“Vote NO because each and every citizen deserves fair representation. Vote NO because California is worth fighting for,” he added.
Polling has indicated that the proposition will pass, as opponents have attributed the partisan language of the ballot measure to its potential success.

In one of her final pitches to voters before a closely-watched election, Virginia Lieutenant Governor Winsome Earle-Sears is not mincing words.
“We’re going to win because we&#8217;re the ones with the common-sense ideas that are to keep Virginia moving,&#8221; the Republican said in a wide-ranging interview with The Daily Wire. &#8220;I&#8217;m talking about we&#8217;re going to make sure that the taxes stay low. My opponent has already said that she&#8217;s going to increase taxes.&#8221;
Earle-Sears&#8217; opponent, former Democrat Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger, has attempted to campaign as a moderate. Earle-Sears isn&#8217;t having it.
&#8220;[Spanberger] has already said she&#8217;s going to make Virginia a sanctuary state, meaning that if you&#8217;re a criminal and you&#8217;re legally here, you&#8217;re going to get sanctuary,&#8221; the Republican said. &#8220;But then again, she didn&#8217;t have to say it because that&#8217;s how she voted. She voted for that, voted to keep our borders open. And so you see now with the problems that we have in trying to get those who are criminals and illegally here gone.&#8221;
Democrats like Spanberger are &#8220;not keeping us safe,&#8221; Earle-Sears said, noting that safety and security are all voters want.
&#8220;We want to be safe in Virginia, in America. We just want peace and quiet, and you go do your thing and let me do mine. And yet the Democrats who claim to tolerate people, yes, only except if you don&#8217;t agree with them. And they claim to love everybody, except, no, they don&#8217;t really.&#8221;

Hashmi, the Democratic nominee for Lieutenant Governor, is narrowly leading her Republican opponent, John Reid. But it&#8217;s Jones, the Democrat nominee for Virginia Attorney General, who garnered national attention with the revelation that in 2022, he had suggested murdering his political rival and fantasized about their children dying.
“Three people, two bullets. Gilbert, Hitler, and Pol Pot. Gilbert gets two bullets to the head,” Jones said in one of the texts, referencing then-Virginia House of Delegates Speaker Todd Gilbert, a Republican. Jones then fantasized about Gilbert&#8217;s children, whom he called &#8220;little fascists,&#8221; dying in their mother&#8217;s arms.
&#8220;Here you have a man running for political office who, when he had political office, advocated the murder of his opponent and also advocated the murder of his two children, who were two and five years old at the time,&#8221; Earle-Sears told The Daily Wire.
&#8220;Who is this man, Jay Jones? We cannot have him. Is that what we want in America? And then, by the way, my opponent, she&#8217;s not too far behind because she has said, &#8216;Let your rage fuel you.&#8217; What rage are you talking about, Abigail? And fuel what, Abigail? And against whom, Abigail?&#8221;

Earle-Sears has repeatedly called on Spanberger to denounce Jones and pull her endorsement, including during a fiery gubernatorial debate, in which Spanberger avoided the topic, saying only that “we are all running our individual races.&#8221;
“She&#8217;s politically calculating and cunning,&#8221; Earle-Sears said of Spanberger. &#8220;I used to think it was cowardice, but I see now — no, she wants power, she wants control, and so she refuses to say the right thing, which is to tell Jay Jones to get out of the race.&#8221;
Spanberger&#8217;s shortcomings aren&#8217;t the only reason Earle-Sears is confident she&#8217;ll prevail on Election Day. While polls indicate Spanberger is leading, Earle-Sears says the race is &#8220;much closer than the mainstream media has been saying.&#8221;
&#8220;I&#8217;m from a third-world country and I&#8217;ve seen what happens when the media decides that they&#8217;re going to support one political side and against the other,&#8221; Earle-Sears, an immigrant from Jamaica, said. &#8220;We don&#8217;t expect that in our media, not in America, but that&#8217;s where we are today.&#8221;
“The media has used lying polls that come straight from the Democrats, which at one point said I was down 20 points. But they knew the truth, when we had video of Abigail Spanberger telling her supporters that this was a toss-up race and it&#8217;s okay because she&#8217;s been here before. The one time I want the media to believe her, they don’t,” she continued.
In the closing days of the race, former President Barack Obama has campaigned for Spanberger, and President Donald Trump is expected to hold a virtual rally for Earle-Sears on Monday night.
“It was great being back in Norfolk to help get out the vote for [Spanberger] for Governor,” Obama posted to X on Saturday. “Virginia – Abigail Spanberger cares about your freedoms, she will fight for your rights, and she will work every day to make your life a little bit better.”
Virginia is one of just two gubernatorial races this cycle. &#8220;America is a great country,&#8221; she said. &#8220;Does she have her faults? Of course. But I tell you what, it&#8217;s the best we&#8217;ve got, and we&#8217;re gonna keep building.&#8221;

Winsome Earle-Sears’ Final Pitch In Virginia: ‘Common Sense Will Win.’

In the four years since Governor Glenn Youngkin’s pivotal 2021 victory, Virginia conservatives have scored massive wins against leftism on college campuses. But with voters heading to the polls on Tuesday, new footage shows that the remnants of diversity, equity, and inclusion may be quietly re-emerging at its flagship university.
In an undercover video obtained by The Daily Wire, a University of Virginia official is caught saying that the “DEI office has been changed in name,” only before laying out how DEI programs continue to be pushed at the university in other ways.
“The DEI office has been changed in name, and I think [it&#8217;s] probably going to be a little more taken down,” said Alex Winkowski, the assistant dean and director of fraternity and sorority life. “But like the Multicultural Student Services unit is still here. It wasn&#8217;t called DEI. I mean that&#8217;s why it wasn&#8217;t really touched for a while. People didn&#8217;t know where to look.”
“People think everything that’s DEI is called DEI, which is bonkers to me,” the assistant dean added. Asked if the Multicultural Student Center is a “safe haven” for DEI, Winkowski replied, “Oh, absolutely. Oh, yeah.”

The hidden-camera video was recorded in August, five months after UVA’s Board of Visitors <a href="https://www.governor.virginia.gov/newsroom/news-releases/2025/march/name-1042455-en.html">voted</a> to dissolve the university’s Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Community Partnerships.
The topic has been a hot-button issue at UVA in recent months. After the Trump administration began investigating colleges for pushing discriminatory programs and pressuring Virginia to end its DEI office, the university’s president, Jim Ryan, resigned. The Department of Justice <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/06/27/us/politics/uva-president-resigns-jim-ryan-trump.html">reportedly</a> demanded that Ryan resign to help settle an investigation into the university’s DEI practices. It’s still without a permanent replacement, months into the academic year.
In March, Governor Youngkin and Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares praised UVA’s Board of Visitors for voting to close the school’s DEI office and “end illegal discriminatory practices.” The university also entered into an <a href="https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/justice-department-announces-agreement-university-virginia-0">agreement</a> with the Department of Justice last month, vowing that it would “not engage in unlawful racial discrimination in its university programming, admissions, hiring, or other activities.” Virginia also promised to provide the DOJ with quarterly data on its programming through 2028, adding that the university’s president “will personally certify each quarter that UVA is in compliance with the agreement.”
According to Winkowski, however, UVA’s Multicultural Student Center offers a cover for DEI programs to continue at the school. The Multicultural Student Center offers students a space where they can study or meet with other students. The center aims to “build community and encourage connection across diverse experiences.” The Multicultural Center is one of many student centers offered by Multicultural Student Services, a department that is dedicated to promoting diversity among the student body. The other student centers include the LGBTQ Center, Latinx Student Center, Interfaith Student Center, and Asian American Student Center.
“The LGBTQ Center here is very, very supported by alumni, to the point where they looked at the alumni support here and scholarships and [found] that we give more money than Harvard does to LGBTQ students who go here,” Winkowski said.

Winkowski has spent much of his time at UVA developing “LGBTQ-related programs,” according to his <a href="https://studentaffairs.virginia.edu/staff/alex-winkowski">bio</a> on the university’s website. Winkowski’s bio refers to him as “they.”
The University of Virginia told The Daily Wire that Winkowski’s comments “do not represent official University policies or positions.”
“Following the Supreme Court’s ruling in the Students for Fair Admissions case and the federal administration’s issuance of related guidance, the University developed its own guidance for UVA schools and units to make clear that UVA does not tolerate discrimination in any form and that all programs, events, and spaces must be not only open, but genuinely welcoming to all people, regardless of race or other characteristics,” said university spokesman Brian Coy. “As part of that effort, the University has renamed some spaces, programs, and events in an effort to make absolutely clear that they are open and welcoming to all people.”
Coy added that Winkowski’s statements are not related “in any way” to the school’s agreement with the DOJ, adding that UVA remains committed to upholding the agreement.
“This hidden camera video was taken well before the University entered into an agreement with the Department of Justice to suspend multiple civil rights violations and the content captured does not relate in any way to that agreement,” the spokesman said. “The agreement in question suspends 5 Department of Justice investigations and commits the University to follow the DOJ’s guidance on U.S. civil rights laws, as long as they are consistent with judicial decisions. The University is committed to honoring that agreement.”
The Daily Wire also asked UVA how it ensures that faculty and staff are following the DOJ’s guidance and not attempting to push DEI goals under other names. UVA has not responded to that question.
Winkowski’s comments are yet another example of how university administrators and faculty continue to prioritize DEI despite the Trump administration opening investigations into dozens of schools for alleged discriminatory practices. Earlier this year, The Daily Wire obtained a video showing a Vanderbilt University administrator admitting that the school is actively pursuing DEI goals, which would be in violation of President Donald Trump’s executive order on DEI.
“All the things that I would say are components of DEI work are part of what we do. Even if we don’t label everything as DEI work,” <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/exclusive-video-vanderbilt-administrator-caught-saying-dei-remains-part-of-what-we-do">said</a> G.L. Black, Vanderbilt’s vice provost for student affairs and dean of students. After The Daily Wire published an <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/exclusive-video-vanderbilt-administrator-caught-saying-dei-remains-part-of-what-we-do">article</a> on Black’s comments, Vanderbilt released a statement saying that it hired the law firm Baker Donelson, which “will be tasked with reviewing the specific circumstances related to the recordings and identifying steps the university can take to ensure all employees fully understand the university’s policies and consistently act in accordance.”
A University of Tennessee department head was also <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/university-of-tennessee-department-head-boasts-of-dei-flying-under-the-radar-in-red-state">caught on camera</a> boasting about DEI flying under the radar after the Trump administration’s crackdown. Casey A. Barrio Minton, professor and department head of counselor education, said that Tennessee’s “Access and Engagement” office, which used to be called the “Diversity and Inclusion” office, continues to push DEI.
In September, a controversy erupted at Texas A&amp;M when a video obtained by <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/texas-am-president-to-resign-after-leftist-politics-infiltrated-university-childrens-lit-course">The Daily Wire</a> showed an English professor pushing pro-LGBT talking points during a children’s literature course that devoted considerable attention to sex, gender, and “queerness.” Texas A&amp;M President Mark Welsh resigned after he was criticized for how he handled the controversy.

Topline: It’s election week, with millions of Americans heading to the polls for the first time since Donald Trump’s 2024 victory.  
New York: The race for New York City’s mayor is getting the most national attention. An avowed socialist could soon lead America’s largest city. The 34-year-old Zohran Mamdani came out of nowhere this year to win the Democratic Primary, and he’s maintained a significant double-digit lead throughout the general election.
He is running against Republican Curtis Sliwa and former New York Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo, who, after losing in the primary, began running as an independent. Current polling shows Mamdani with an average lead of 14 points.
Mamdani’s endorsements: Typically, whoever wins the primary in New York is immediately endorsed by party leaders. But with the exception of far-Left folks like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, most national Democrats were hesitant to sign on — clearly concerned about tying themselves to Mamdani’s more radical views.
While New York Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul and Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) eventually were pressured into endorsing Mamdani, in an extraordinary move, high-profile Democrats like  Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) have yet to do so.

Interestingly, Mamdani’s support is coming from foreign-born Americans. One of the latest polls shows that among voters born in America, Cuomo is actually ahead by nine points. But among foreign-born voters, Mamdani holds a massive 38-point lead.
New Jersey: Republicans have had their eye on the Garden State ever since last November, when Trump got within six points of victory. In 2020, he lost by 16% – the second-largest shift to the right in any state in the country.
A few months ago, the governor’s race looked like a blowout, with Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-NJ) ahead by more than 20 points. But Republican nominee Jack Ciatarelli has gained significant ground. The latest polls show him within about three points.
Virginia: Democrats were embarrassed in Virginia four years ago when Republican Glenn Youngkin pulled off a stunning upset. This time, Republican Winsome Earle-Sears needs an even bigger upset to defeat Democrat Abigail Spanberger.
This governor’s race has, in many ways, been defined by the Attorney General election, specifically, Jay Jones, the Democratic nominee. Last month, leaked texts from 2022 showed him wishing death on Republican colleagues in Virginia, even saying he hoped their children died because “only when people feel pain personally do they move on policy.” Despite those messages, Jones stayed on the ticket, though it did lead to him cratering in the polls.

Topline: New whistleblower documents expose a Biden-era &#8220;enemies list&#8221; buried deep in a federal investigation codenamed Arctic Frost. Republicans say this probe, which targeted President Trump and hundreds of his allies, weaponized the Justice Department for political reasons.
Arctic Frost started as an FBI operation in April 2022, led by then-agent Timothy Thibault. Initially, it was aimed at probing alleged efforts by Trump allies to challenge the 2020 election. But when Special Counsel Jack Smith took over in November of that year, it ballooned into the basis for Trump&#8217;s election interference indictments. Those charges were eventually dismissed.
But now, whistleblower records obtained by Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) show a lot more was going on at the time — Arctic Frost became a sweeping dragnet targeting Republican senators, donors, and outside conservative groups.
Grassley has also revealed that the authorization for Arctic Frost had come from the top of the Biden administration, meaning then-Attorney General Merrick Garland and then-FBI Director Christopher Wray.
The predicate: Grassley released 197 subpoenas issued in 2023 alone. The subpoenas included nonpublic grand jury material that demanded everything from emails to phone metadata to bank records and credit reports of 34 individuals and 163 businesses, including many conservative groups such as Turning Point USA.
The subpoenas sought communications from nine Republican senators, including Ted Cruz, Lindsey Graham, and Ron Johnson, as well as from House members and White House aides such as Stephen Miller and Jared Kushner. They even went after media companies — Fox News, Newsmax, Sinclair — demanding donor lists and fundraising data.
Repercussions: Cruz is demanding the House impeach D.C. Chief Judge James Boasberg, an Obama appointee, for approving a 2023 gag order that silenced carriers like AT&amp;T from alerting targets. Cruz said there were &#8220;no facts or evidence&#8221; to justify it, and Rep. Brandon Gill (R-TX) is drafting articles, calling Boasberg a &#8220;radical activist judge&#8221; who enabled spying on senators.
Some could be charged with crimes. Some conservative legal experts are pushing for criminal charges against DOJ and FBI staffers for conspiring to violate the free speech, free assembly, and privacy rights of their targets.

Topline: President Trump issued a stark warning to Nigeria over the persecution of Christians – while he continues to flex U.S. might in South America.
Nigeria: Trump said the U.S. military would move on Nigeria “guns-a-blazing” unless it stops the persecution of Christians. He <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/115476385101120405">posted</a> on Truth Social on Saturday that Nigeria needs to “move fast” or the U.S. military will “completely wipe out the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities.”
That post came a day after Trump <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/115470116607441456">announced</a> that he had designated Nigeria a “COUNTRY OF PARTICULAR CONCERN,” which means Nigeria has been identified for “particularly severe violations of religious freedom” <a href="https://europeanconservative.com/articles/news-corner/trump-calls-for-support-for-persecuted-nigerian-christians/">under</a> the International Religious Freedom Act.
The scope of the persecution is vast. According to one report, more than 7,000 Christians have been killed in Nigeria just since the start of the year, which makes Nigeria easily the deadliest country for Christians globally.
Sen. Cruz <a href="https://www.cruz.senate.gov/newsroom/press-releases/sen-cruz-statement-on-president-trump-action-against-nigeria-for-christian-persecution">said</a> that the designation is “a critical step in holding accountable and changing the behavior of Nigerian officials who have facilitated and created an environment conducive to the outrages in Nigeria.” He has introduced legislation to take it a step further, punishing in particular officials who push blasphemy and sharia laws in Nigeria.
Nigerian President Bola Tinubu <a href="https://x.com/officialABAT/status/1984640117361840491">said</a> the accusations of Christian persecution do “not reflect our national reality,” and that “Nigeria is a country with constitutional guarantees to protect citizens of all faiths.” A spokesman for the president <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/national-security/trump-tells-department-defense-prepare-possible-action-nigeria-rcna241330">added</a> Sunday that he would welcome U.S. help fighting terrorism “as long as it (the U.S.) recognizes our territorial integrity.”
South America: According to reports from the <a href="https://www.wsj.com/world/americas/u-s-eyes-striking-venezuelan-military-targets-used-for-drug-trafficking-cafcfe47?st=tchg4R%3E">Wall Street Journal</a> and the <a href="https://www.miamiherald.com/news/nation-world/world/americas/venezuela/article312722642.html">Miami Herald</a>, the president has weighed military strikes on Venezuelan targets, which could be launched at any time.
The reported targets would be military assets used in the drug trade, and if the president moved forward with strikes, it would serve not only as a clear message to drug traffickers but to President Nicolás Maduro, as well. The Trump administration wants him out of government – the sooner the better for him.
The military pressure on Venezuela is the opposite of the pressure Trump has used in Argentina. There, the country’s libertarian president, Javier Milei, won a massive victory in the midterm elections, at least partly due to Trump’s offer of an economic lifeline to Argentina’s government – but only if Milei’s reforms were protected.
