Federal authorities caught an illegal immigrant accused of causing a fatal hit-and-run last week while he was attempting to board a flight to his home country, The Daily Wire has learned.
Josue David Carranza-Castellon allegedly struck and killed Brian Roy Longaberger, 56, at about 4:47 a.m. last Wednesday when his car veered off the road and onto a grassy median in Gaithersburg, Maryland, before fleeing the scene.
Agents with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) caught up to the illegal immigrant the following day as he was boarding a plane bound for Honduras at Newark International Airport, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) told The Daily Wire.
Carranza-Castellon, 26, crossed the border illegally in 2016 as a teenager, DHS said. At the time, federal authorities were experiencing an overwhelming influx of illegal border crossings.
He also has a rap sheet that includes a conviction for a fourth-degree sex offense and an arrest for lewd or lascivious acts with a minor, according to DHS. It is not clear why Carranza-Castellon was out on the streets and not behind bars at the time of the crash.

Now, DHS says it is putting an end to Carranza-Castellon&#8217;s &#8220;crime spree&#8221; in the United States, Acting Assistant Homeland Security Secretary Lauren Bis said in a statement.
“This criminal illegal alien tried to flee the country to avoid facing justice for his involvement in a fatal hit-and-run. This is not the first time this illegal alien broke our laws. He was previously arrested for lewd or lascivious acts with a child,” Bis said.
“He will face consequences for his crimes and then be swiftly removed from our country so he cannot continue to terrorize American communities. His crime spree is OVER,&#8221; she added.
A dramatic photo taken after the crash showed Carranza-Castellon&#8217;s gray 2011 Honda CR-V with a shattered windshield and a completely dented hood. There was also damage to the front bumper.
Police were able to locate the damaged vehicle later that day, tying Carranza-Castellon to the incident.
Longaberger died at the scene, local officials said.
Carranza-Castellon faces charges of manslaughter by vehicle and failure to remain at the scene of an accident resulting in death.
He is currently being held in Elizabeth, New Jersey, while awaiting extradition to Maryland, officials said.

The judge overseeing the case against Charlie Kirk&#8217;s alleged killer, Tyler Robinson, decided to keep the death penalty on the table as a potential punishment.
During a hearing Friday morning, Judge Tony Graf Jr. ruled that &#8220;striking the death penalty is grossly disproportionate to the misconduct and legally unavailable in this civil contempt framework,&#8221; but found that a state prosecutor was in contempt of a court gag order.
It came after Deputy Utah County Attorney Christopher Ballard made statements during interviews with TMZ, USA Today, PolitiFact, and Fox News disputing claims about ballistic evidence in the case that were mentioned in a court filing.
Robinson&#8217;s lawyers wrote in an earlier court filing &#8220;the ATF [Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives] was unable to identify the bullet recovered at autopsy to the rifle allegedly tied to Mr. Robinson,&#8221; which Ballard said was misleading and &#8220;misstated,&#8221; leading to conspiracy theories online that others could have been responsible for Kirk&#8217;s killing.
&#8220;The ATF was unable to identify or exclude the bullet as having been fired from the rifle,&#8221; Ballard previously wrote.
&#8220;Defendant reinforced this misleading inference by following it up with, &#8216;the defense may very well decide to offer the testimony of the ATF firearm analyst as exculpatory evidence,'&#8221; he added.
Prosecutors argued that Ballard was attempting to correct the record about misinformation circulating in the press about the case.
Graf recognized that Ballard “did not engage with the media out of a malicious desire to flout this court’s authority or to intentionally taint the jury pool,” but said that the statements went too far.
“Those additional public statements possessed a substantial likelihood of materially prejudicing the proceedings,” Graf said.
Graf also ruled that Robinson&#8217;s defense team will be reimbursed for costs incurred in pursuing the contempt ruling.

President Donald Trump&#8217;s former National Security Adviser John Bolton pleaded guilty Friday to one of 18 counts against him pertaining to his handling of classified documents.
The plea agreement could help Bolton, who has since become a vocal critic of the commander-in-chief, avoid prison time, according to the Associated Press. His sentencing is scheduled for October 28.
The ex-federal official faces up to 60 months behind bars, according to NBC News. He has also agreed to pay a $2.25 million fine while forfeiting his pension.

The plea agreement, however, recommends a prison sentence that doesn&#8217;t exceed five years.
Bolton is accused of retaining information that was &#8220;classified at the highest classification levels,&#8221; U.S. Attorney Kelly O. Hayes said during a press conference following Friday&#8217;s hearing.
The document at the center of his guilty plea &#8220;revealed intelligence about an adversary&#8217;s plans for an attack conducted against U.S. forces&#8221; serving overseas, &#8220;human intelligence using sensitive sources and methods,&#8221; and &#8220;a covert action program,&#8221; Hayes said. In total, Bolton shared more than 1,000 pages of information related to his role as national security adviser.
&#8220;As national security adviser to the president of the United States, Mr. Bolton had access to and was responsible for safeguarding the most sensitive national defense information, including classified material. Mr. Bolton knew how to handle classified information, where it should be stored, how it should be stored, and with whom he could share that information,&#8221; Hayes said.
&#8220;He also knew the damage to national security that could be caused by mishandling that sensitive information. Nevertheless, as Mr. Bolton just admitted, he put our national security at grave risk in violation of the law,&#8221; she added.
Some of the classified information was contained in diary entries that Bolton shared with relatives while authoring a memoir, according to the AP. The indictment centered on notes Bolton shared with his wife and daughter.
In sending one message containing classified information, Bolton wrote to his family members, “None of which we talk about!!!,” according to the AP, which cited prosecutors&#8217; allegations. A relative then responded, “Shhhhh.&#8221;
The federal government began investigating Bolton before Trump&#8217;s return to the White House. The FBI searched Bolton&#8217;s home in Maryland in August 2025.

As the FIFA World Cup brings in millions of international fans to the United States, criminals are lurking behind-the-scenes to exploit the buzz surrounding the games.
In the last few weeks, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has intercepted massive amounts of counterfeit FIFA World Cup merch. In a recent five-day operation dubbed &#8220;Protect the Pitch,&#8221; border officers in Cincinnati seized 68 shipments of counterfeit FIFA World Cup 2026 jerseys, shirts, shorts, shoes, hats, jewelry, and other merch, CBP told The Daily Wire.
If they had been authentic, the 2,589 items had an estimated retail value of $266,566, according to CBP. The shipments included 1,563 FIFA World Cup 2026 jerseys, 306 pairs of shorts, 200 pairs of footwear, 150 hats, 80 shirts, and 290 other World Cup-related items that originated in Mexico and Colombia.

Officers were able to catch the packages by tracking mail bound for the games&#8217; host cities, including Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Seattle.
The latest seizure is part of a nationwide effort by border authorities to stop counterfeit World Cup items from entering the market.
During the first week of the World Cup, CBP seized $23 million worth of fake fan gear, the agency said.
Cincinnati Port Director Eric Zizelman said that criminals typically use major sporting events &#8220;to flood the market with knockoffs and cheap imitations just to make a buck,&#8221; adding that &#8220;businesses and the American consumer pay the price.&#8221; CBP also warned that fake items can pose dangers to Americans&#8217; health, safety, and economic security.
“It’s a shame criminals are preying on soccer fans and using the World Cup as a means to steal money from consumers,” Cincinnati Port Director Eric Zizelman said in a statement.
“It happens around all the major sporting events, whether it be the Super Bowl, World Series, or in this case, the World Cup,&#8221; Zizelman said.
In a separate incident on June 17, CBP officers seized 8,400 counterfeit Nike soccer jerseys with an estimated retail value of $840,000 at Miami International Airport. The package originated in China and was bound for Brazil.
A similar seizure worth more than $6 million occurred at a seaport in Houston. During the interception, CBP officers uncovered 2,000 Adidas Soccer Jerseys, 4,500 Adidas FIFA Soccer Balls, nearly 4,400 pairs of athletic shoes, 69 FIFA packages containing over 2,200 counterfeit Apple Watches and headphones with the FIFA trademark logo in shipments from China.
In Indianapolis, CBP officers discovered 530 FIFA World Cup 2026 jerseys, 380 beanies, 349 Puma, Adidas, and Nike shirts tied to the tournament that came from Hong Kong.
Over 90% of counterfeit items confiscated by CBP arrive through international mail, according to CBP.

President Donald Trump scored <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/scotus-delivers-two-massive-immigration-wins-for-trump">major victories</a> in two Supreme Court decisions issued Thursday that will allow him to ramp up his ongoing crackdown on the border and illegal immigration.
The high court ruled that the federal government could turn away migrants seeking asylum at ports of entry, rejecting arguments that federal law requires officials to process every migrant who arrives at the border seeking asylum. In a separate ruling, the court opened the door for the Trump administration to proceed with its plans to terminate the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for 350,000 Haitian immigrants and 6,000 Syrians from deportation.
The court&#8217;s two 6-3 decisions were made along ideological lines.
In its decision on TPS, the court rejected claims that the Trump administration&#8217;s decisions with regards to Haitians specifically were based on racial animus.
&#8220;Citing statements made by President Trump and former Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, one set of respondents advances an equal protection claim that Haiti’s TPS designation was terminated because of the racial makeup of that country’s population,&#8221; Justice Samuel Alito wrote in the majority opinion.
&#8220;But, ironically, one of respondents’ other arguments undermines the equal protection claim by offering a strong, race-neutral explanation for Haiti’s termination: namely, that the current administration, which has terminated every TPS designation that has come up for renewal, simply opposes the TPS program, at least as it has been implemented in the past,&#8221; Alito added.
Both groups, who have been shielded from deportation for over a decade, now &#8220;have to leave&#8221; the United States since they will lose their legal status, Hans von Spakovsky, senior legal fellow at Advancing American Freedom, told The Daily Wire.
Many of the Haitian and Syrian nationals have yet to receive deportation orders and will likely remain in the United States until they are formally ordered removed by an immigration judge.
Former Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) New York Field Office Deputy Director Scott Mechkowski said they&#8217;re not all yet targets of Trump&#8217;s mass deportation effort and that the process will take time.
&#8220;The cases get worked the way every other case gets worked, by priority, starting with criminal records and prior removal orders,&#8221; Mechkowski said.
Since Trump&#8217;s second term commenced, the president has sought to end TPS for 13 of the 17 countries with such protections. Only four — El Salvador, Lebanon, Sudan, and Ukraine — remain covered by the program, NPR reported.
White House border czar Tom Homan celebrated the ruling, saying the protections were abused.
&#8220;I&#8217;ve been doing this since 1984. TPS has never been temporary. That&#8217;s why the whole statute exists: temporarily give people protection while their country&#8217;s in turmoil or after they suffer a hurricane. The problem is no administration has had the guts to actually follow that statute,&#8221; Homan said.
In the court&#8217;s ruling on the border, federal authorities will be able to turn back asylum seekers who are in Mexico and don&#8217;t actually set foot on American soil.
&#8220;The consequences of this are if the administration closes the border &#8230; folks who are kept from crossing the line cannot make any claims that they&#8217;ve got a right to be in the United States,&#8221; von Spakovsky said.
&#8220;It literally means stepping over the border line between the two countries. If you are one foot across the U.S. border, you&#8217;ve arrived in the U.S.,&#8221; he added.
Traditionally, federal officers at the border screened migrants and generally allowed those who expressed a fear of persecution into the country for further processing. Even if the fear claim was rejected during an initial interview with an asylum officer, the migrant could choose to have their case heard in an immigration court.
&#8220;In ordinary speech, no one would say that a person &#8216;arrives in&#8217; a place — for example, a house, a city, or a country — before the person enters that place,&#8221; Alito wrote in the majority opinion.
The Center for Immigration Studies&#8217; Andrew “Art” Arthur, a former immigration judge, said the ruling &#8220;reaffirms the fact that we don&#8217;t have to let everybody in,&#8221; adding, &#8220;We do have the ability to actively keep them out.&#8221;
In response to an overwhelming influx of migrant crossings in 2016, the Obama administration began employing the practice of rejecting asylum seekers at the border through the process, which is known as &#8220;metering.&#8221; Lower courts eventually blocked the practice before Trump revived it, <a href="https://www.npr.org/2026/06/25/nx-s1-5844292/supreme-court-syrian-haitian-tps" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to NPR.

A Biden-appointed judge blocked federal immigration agents from arresting targets at immigration courts — as ICE sources warn that the order could lead to more arrest activity.

Casey Pitts of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California issued the <a href="https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.cand.453807/gov.uscourts.cand.453807.205.0.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">order</a> Tuesday after the Trump administration ramped up courthouse arrests through its mass deportation effort. Pitts labeled the policy as “arbitrary and capricious,” saying the administration &#8220;failed to provide reasoned explanations for their actions.&#8221;
“It is now clear that the lack of connection between ICE’s stated rationales for the 2025 courthouse-arrest policies and the expansion of arrests at immigration courthouses results not from merely unreasoned decisionmaking but a complete lack of decisionmaking,” Pitts wrote.
&#8220;ICE is not arresting individuals who appear for criminal or civil violations ‘unrelated’ to the arrest but instead arresting noncitizens based on the very immigration offenses for which the noncitizens are appearing in immigration court,&#8221; he added.
While Pitts argued that &#8220;it is far from obvious that vacating the courthouse-arrest policies will significantly hinder ICE’s operations,&#8221; sources told The Daily Wire that the statement may be far from the reality.
Sources within ICE said that when officers can&#8217;t nab targets at immigration courts, they are forced to hit the streets in greater numbers resulting in more arrests. One also noted that the change could expose officers and the public to more risks.
&#8220;This will once again put at risk the community because officers won&#8217;t be able to make arrests in a safe location where the people attending court are screened for weapons and other items that can cause bodily harm. Also, it will once more put officers out in the field, increasing the chance of collateral arrests instead of only the target being apprehended,&#8221; an ICE source said.
Another agency source said they have plenty of &#8220;at large targets,&#8221; adding that the court arrest tactic was an effective tool when it started, but that word got out eventually and &#8220;people started to miss their appearances.&#8221;
The Trump administration&#8217;s use of the tactic led protesters and Democratic lawmakers to show up at immigration courts across the country in attempts to block the arrests.
Former ICE New York Field Office Deputy Director Scott Mechkowski echoed that courthouses, like local jails, &#8220;are the single safest place to take a removable alien into custody.&#8221;
&#8220;The realistic alternative is not &#8216;no arrest,&#8217; it’s an armed team going into a neighborhood, a workplace, or a home to find that same person at large,&#8221; he said.
The ruling also struck down a Trump-era policy that allowed ICE officers to hold detainees in temporary detention rooms for up to 72 hours or more, exceeding the 12-hour holding limit, <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2026/06/23/us/ice-arrests-immigration-courts-california.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to the New York Times.
Homeland Security Counsel James Percival condemned Pitts&#8217; order as &#8220;naked judicial activism in service of an anti-American, open borders agenda.&#8221;

Years of open-door policies and unchecked immigration have resulted in a rise of radical Islamism across Europe — and some countries are looking to reverse course.
In the United Kingdom, migrant rape gangs have victimized at least 250,000 British girls over the past several decades, a recent report conducted by Restore Britain, led by Member of Parliament Rupert Lowe, found. A disproportionate number of attackers came from Pakistani Muslim backgrounds, according to the report, which cited court records, previous inquiries, and witness testimonies.
Roughly 87% of those convicted in major group-based child sexual exploitation cases also had distinctively Muslim names, the report said of previous analyses.
&#8220;Britain is not a unique case,&#8221; the report noted. &#8220;This sort of thing goes on anywhere that either welcomes mass migration from Muslim countries or contains long-established Muslim populations. There is a consistent pattern of sexual violence directed against non-Muslim minorities in settings where Muslims form the majority.&#8221;
In many instances, authorities were reluctant to address the issue due to potential racism accusations or concerns about community relations.
&#8220;They are certainly trying to shut down any speech towards Islam, any criticism of Islam. I don&#8217;t understand why people are so afraid of Islam. I think it&#8217;s an awful religion, it&#8217;s violent, sexist,&#8221; Sammy Woodhouse, a survivor of such brutal attacks, told The Daily Wire&#8217;s Michael Knowles in a recent interview.
Woodhouse said the grooming gangs&#8217; activities would escalate during Muslim holidays when they would throw &#8220;parties.&#8221;
&#8220;If you look at all the murders that&#8217;s been committed, the terrorist attacks &#8230; there is a clear problem with Islam,&#8221; she said.
A <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/migrant-arrested-after-attempted-beheading-caught-on-video">Sudanese migrant</a> allegedly attempted to behead another man in the streets of Belfast earlier this month. The gruesome incident was captured on video, showing the moment the foreign suspect pinned another man down and repeatedly stabbed the victim in the face and neck.
In the wake of the brutal stabbing, Northern Ireland Justice Minister Naomi Long said she was scared about backlash against minorities and said the attack should not be used to fuel &#8220;dangerous narratives.&#8221;
&#8220;I also know there are many people in our community people from ethnic minority backgrounds who are terrified today about any kind of retaliation or backlash against them, which we have seen in the past,&#8221; she told the BBC.
The attack also sparked protests in Northern Ireland, with demonstrators taking to the streets to condemn the country&#8217;s immigration policies.
A Syrian asylum seeker who swore allegiance to ISIS went on a stabbing spree in Villach, Austria, killing a 14-year-old boy and injuring five others in February 2025.
In the aftermath of the attack, Austrian Interior Minister Gerhard Karner called for &#8220;mass checks without cause in many areas&#8221; since the foreign attacker was not previously known to authorities.
But in some countries, the tide is turning.
Roughly 8% of Sweden&#8217;s population in 2020 was Muslim, up from around 4% in 2010, according to Pew Research.
Sweden, which previously had an open-door policy toward Syrian refugees, recently passed legislation to expedite deportations by requiring public sector workers to report illegal immigrants to the police.
The country&#8217;s parliament also enacted the &#8220;good behavior&#8221; law to rescind the residency permits of foreigners who are affiliated with extremist groups, have unpaid debts, or are doing undeclared work.
The European Union has also shifted its policies, with member nations entering into a new pact to speed up deportations and to better vet immigrants at their borders.
Migrants from &#8220;safe&#8221; countries or those posing a &#8220;security threat&#8221; will have a three-month asylum process instead of six, <a href="https://abcnews.com/International/wireStory/eus-new-rules-migration-asylum-effect-133807585" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to ABC News. Border authorities will also be able to keep some migrants at the border until their cases are processed.
Migrants will also have only one chance to appeal their rejected applications for asylum.
The pact will expedite deportations by automatically issuing applicants return orders when their asylum cases are denied.

Several Afrikaner refugees brought to the United States by Trump recently told The Daily Wire that up until now, federally funded resettlement agencies have provided videos as part of their cultural orientation to American life that taught them how to shower, use a toilet, and brush their teeth. The refugees, who largely speak English and are accustomed to such cultural norms, were shocked by the material.
The content is provided to refugee aid nonprofits through the International Rescue Committee&#8217;s SettleIn initiative and is funded by HHS’ Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), as previously reported.
Adriaan, an Afrikaner refugee who arrived in December, said he and his peers &#8220;laughed at a lot of these videos and made comedic remarks because they pointed out the obvious regarding not going to the bathroom outside and how to use a microwave oven.&#8221;

The new welcome packets include a copy of the Constitution, Declaration of Independence, and The White House&#8217;s 1776 Report on America&#8217;s founding, according to HHS.
“On the 250th anniversary of our great nation, it is my honor to welcome Afrikaner refugees to the land of freedom and opportunity,” HHS Administration for Children and Families Assistant Secretary Alex J. Adams said in a statement shared with The Daily Wire.
“America has long been strengthened by individuals and families who come here seeking safety, stability, and the chance to build a better future. The Trump administration is proud to now connect refugees with resources that will support their transition to American life and help them learn of the freedoms, responsibilities, and opportunities that make this nation great,&#8221; Adams added.
PragerU&#8217;s vice president of kids programming Dzana Homan, who came to the United States as a refugee from communist Yugoslavia, is behind the program&#8217;s launch. She said the hope is &#8220;to tell&#8221; refugees &#8220;this color blind America values story about how did this country begin and what is it that makes it so special.&#8221;
&#8220;There&#8217;s nothing right now that is provided frankly and when you look at what has happened thus far with America&#8217;s immigration, including myself, it is very hard to find information, especially for this day and age that is succinct, that is truthful &#8230; and then also celebration of America, I think that&#8217;s the important part,&#8221; Homan said.
&#8220;You want new immigrants to see America in the right light,&#8221; she said.
HHS will give each newly arrived refugee family a tablet with the PragerU app installed with all the pro-America content, Homan said. Each family will also receive &#8220;The Honest Book of America&#8217;s Founders,&#8221; which tells the story of America&#8217;s founding.

PragerU provided all the content for the program free of charge, Homan said. ORR will distribute the new materials to refugees starting Wednesday.

President Donald Trump can speed up deportations of illegal immigrants to new levels, thanks to a new federal appeals court ruling.
The DC Circuit Court of Appeals issued a decision Tuesday allowing federal immigration agents to quickly deport illegal immigrants who can&#8217;t prove they’ve lived in the country continuously for two years or longer, <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2026/06/23/us/politics/appeals-court-expedited-deportations.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to The New York Times. Previously, federal authorities could only make the speedy removals when detaining illegal migrants at the border.
The deportations will likely only ramp up since the millions of targets of the order won&#8217;t have the ability to fight their removal in court.
Department of Homeland Security (DHS) General Counsel James Percival celebrated Tuesday&#8217;s decision.
&#8220;For years, DHS has arbitrarily limited expedited removal to 14 days even though it applies to illegal aliens who entered the country illegally within the last two years. Today, the DC Circuit vindicated our decision to apply the law as written. It’s not too late to take a $2,600 check and a free flight home!&#8221; Percival wrote in an X post.
Two of the three judges on Tuesday&#8217;s panel, both Trump appointees, sided with the Trump administration, according to the NYT. Judge Robert L. Wilkins, an Obama appointee, wrote the dissenting opinion.
In the majority opinion, Judge Justin R. Walker wrote that Congress gave the president the authority to expand the deportation policy, the outlet reported.
“For many years, while some were designated, others were not,” Walker wrote. “But that changed in January 2025 when the executive expanded expedited removal to the maximum extent allowed by Congress.&#8221;
The Trump administration instructed Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers to utilize expedited removal for illegal immigrants living in the interior of the country in January 2025. A lower court ruled against the policy change last August, arguing that it failed to give illegal immigrants due process and would result in their wrongful detention.
Judge Robert L. Wilkins wrote in his dissenting opinion that the previous ruling resulted in the removals of illegal immigrants who had been living in the country longer than two years, according to the NYT. He also wrote that the Trump administration failed to require federal immigration officers to ask potential targets of the policy how long they had been in the country.
“A procedure that can result in persons being deported pursuant to the expedited removal statute without even being asked how long they have been in the country might satisfy due process for persons encountered at the border, but it is woefully inadequate for persons encountered in the interior of the country,” he wrote.

An Antifa anarchist who led an ambush at a Texas Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention center last year will spend a century behind bars.
Prosecutors claimed former Marine Corps Reservist Benjamin Hanil Song shot an officer during the July 4, 2025, attack before running and hiding from authorities for a week. On Tuesday, he received the maximum sentence, 100 years, for his crimes, which took place at the Prairieland Detention Center in Alvarado, <a href="https://www.kxan.com/news/national-news/ap-8-people-convicted-of-terrorism-charges-in-texas-immigration-center-shooting-face-sentencing/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to KXAN.
Seven other Antifa members also received sentences alongside Song, ranging from 30 to 70 years, the outlet reported. In total, the shooters fired roughly 20 to 30 rounds at law enforcement, according to court documents.
During the attack, the leftist anarchists clad in military-style gear hurled fireworks at the building to lure officers outside before opening fire. Prosecutors said Song shot a local police officer in the neck.
The officer has since made a full recovery, Alvarado Police Chief Teddy May <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/texas/news/ice-detention-attack-defendants-sentencing-6-23-2026/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>.
The group allegedly possessed flyers reading “FIGHT ICE TERROR WITH CLASS WAR!” and “FREE ALL POLITICAL PRISONERS,” as well as a flag stating, “RESIST FASCISM — FIGHT OLIGARCHY.” They also spray-painted the words &#8220;ICE Pig&#8221; on a nearby vehicle and &#8220;F*ck you pigs&#8221; on a guard shack.
For his part, Song was accused of firing two AR-15-style rifles at three ICE officers during the shooting. He recruited his co-conspirators for the attack and distributed firearms.
Prosecutors alleged that Song yelled for the group to &#8220;get to the rifles&#8221; and opened fire before shooting the police officer, KXAN reported.
He was convicted in March of attempted murder of the Alvarado police officer.
The Antifa cell communicated on encrypted messaging apps and used Faraday bags to prevent law enforcement from tracking their locations through phone signals, according to court documents.
During Tuesday&#8217;s sentencing, U.S. District Judge Reed O’Connor called the attack “an assault on democracy.”
“The need to deter this type of conduct is high,” O’Connor said.
After sentencing, Song&#8217;s attorney, Phillip Hayes, denied that the group had any extremist ties, according to KXAN.
“This is a bunch of kids and young adults who really have a really big heart and really wanted their voice to be heard,” Hayes said. “It was never intended that anybody get hurt. It was never intended that any shots would be fired.”
The trial marked the first federal domestic terrorism case against Antifa members after the Trump administration designated the anarchist group as a terrorist organization last fall.

An illegal immigrant the federal government was supposed to deport nearly three decades ago allegedly raped a 16-year-old girl in New York as she was walking home, The Daily Wire has learned.
Aureliano Antonio Melendez Reyes, who hails from El Salvador, allegedly approached the teen in Huntington, New York, on June 6 and asked for her phone number, which she refused to hand over, Long Island&#8217;s News12 <a href="https://longisland.news12.com/2026/06/16/man-indicted-for-raping-minor-in-huntington-alley-as-she-walked-home/5DxbRIB2IlfrNSd2gEHR8U" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. The 59-year-old then allegedly forced her into an alley before sexually assaulting her.
The teenage girl was able to break free from Reyes and managed to scale a tall fence while partially clothed before calling 911, according to the local news outlet. The accused rapist continued to pursue the teenager while she was on the phone with authorities.
Police arrived at the scene, where they arrested the alleged predator.
The illegal immigrant snuck across the border without detection at an unknown time, the Department of Homeland Security told The Daily Wire. He received a deportation order in 1998.
“This monster is charged with rape, sexual abuse, and endangering the welfare of a child after he raped a 16-year-old girl who was walking home,” Acting Assistant Homeland Security Secretary Lauren Bis said in a statement. “This sexual predator NEVER should have been in our country and able to prey on this innocent girl.&#8221;
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) lodged a detainer against Reyes, asking local authorities to hand over the suspect following his prosecution, DHS said.
Reyes faces up to 25 years behind bars if convicted on the rape charges, according to News12.
It is unlikely that local authorities will honor ICE&#8217;s detainer due to sanctuary laws. New York Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul recently signed new anti-ICE legislation to prevent local law enforcement agencies from entering agreements with federal immigration authorities.
The legislation also seeks to ban ICE agents from wearing masks and entering churches, schools, and other sensitive locations.
Between January 20, 2025, and December 1, 2025, local authorities in New York released 6,947 criminal illegal immigrants onto the streets, according to DHS. Their crimes account for 29 homicides, 2,509 assaults, 199 burglaries, 305 robberies, 392 dangerous drug offenses, 300 weapons offenses, and 207 sexual predatory offenses.
Bis called out &#8220;Hochul and her fellow sanctuary politicians in New York,&#8221; asking them to honor ICE&#8217;s detainer against Reyes by committing to &#8220;not releasing this criminal illegal alien from jail and to turn him over to ICE.&#8221;
&#8220;New York sanctuary politicians must not release criminals from jail into New York communities,&#8221; she said.

Federal authorities said they were forced to fire at a boat packed with 25 illegal migrants from China who were hoping to reach the shores of Florida, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
The Coast Guard caught the group about a mile south of Key Biscayne, Florida on June 10, DHS said. The migrants initially failed to comply with federal authorities&#8217; orders to stop, forcing the Coast Guard to deploy warning shots, which were ineffective.
The Coast Guardsmen then fired a &#8220;disabling&#8221; shot that stopped the boat without any reported injuries, according to DHS.
&#8220;By land or sea, our borders are CLOSED,&#8221; DHS said in an<a href="https://x.com/DHSgov/status/2067314866671493123"> X post</a> regarding the interception. &#8220;This sends a clear message to ANY illegal alien attempting to enter the United States: don’t even think about it.&#8221;
The Coast Guard crew transported the group of Chinese nationals for further processing. Authorities also seized their boat and transported it to the Coast Guard station in Miami Beach.
“Our Coast Guard crews, working closely with our local, state, and federal maritime law enforcement partners, remain vigilant in detecting and deterring unlawful maritime migration ventures,” Lieutenant Matthew Ross, commanding officer, Coast Guard Station Miami Beach, said.
“Anyone considering one of these dangerous voyages should understand that they are risking their lives at sea and can expect to be interdicted and repatriated,&#8221; Ross said.
The encounter follows an <a href="https://www.news.uscg.mil/Press-Releases/Article/4516342/correction-coast-guard-interdicts-17-aliens-near-sunset-cliffs/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">incident</a> off the coast of San Diego, where the Coast Guard caught a group of 17 suspected illegal immigrant trying to reach the United States by boat. Coast Guard airmen spotted the vessel at around 1:18 a.m. on Sunday southwest of Point Loma.
A boat crew then responded and boarded the boat, where they found 10 claiming Mexican nationals, four claiming Guatemalan nationals, and two claiming Salvadoran nationals, along with one unaccompanied minor claiming Guatemalan.
The Coast Guard brought the migrants aboard one of their boats before handing them over to Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
On June 7, the Coast Guard <a href="https://www.news.uscg.mil/Press-Releases/Article/4514532/coast-guard-interdicts-9-aliens-near-coronado-island-calif/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">interdicted</a> nine Mexican illegal immigrants near Coronado Island, California. The group was transferred to the custody of Border Patrol.
Coast Guard Capt. Jason Hagen, who is the southwest district chief of enforcement, told <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/how-cartels-are-forced-to-shift-tactics-after-trump-crushed-their-human-smuggling-empire" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Daily Wire</a> in November that authorities were observing an uptick in smuggling interdictions.
“As you lock down the land border, the cartels will need to make their money, so they push to the maritime, to the water side. And, unfortunately, there is no border wall in the ocean; we’re challenged with the tyranny of distance,” Hagen said at the time.
