Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) delivered a Bible-based — and very personal — Father&#8217;s Day message specifically aimed at children who were growing up without fathers.
Scott joined CNN anchor Jake Tapper on Sunday morning&#8217;s broadcast of &#8220;State of the Union,&#8221; where he talked about the fact that he&#8217;d grown up from the age of seven without his own father present — and then, when he married, he&#8217;d become a stepfather to his new wife&#8217;s adult children.
He spoke about <a href="https://x.com/CNNSOTU/status/2068700521251119222">advice</a> from a pastor, who&#8217;d reminded him that he had to &#8220;earn the right to influence&#8221; the lives of the adult children in his newly-blended family — and he said that advice had so far served him well. But then Tapper asked what advice he had for fathers — or for those who might be living without a father.

&#8220;On this Father&#8217;s Day, what&#8217;s your message to all the people out there, either the dads or the people who don&#8217;t have dads?&#8221; Tapper asked.
&#8220;If you are without a father, do not think that his absence somehow makes you less qualified to do anything. You are fearfully and wonderfully made,&#8221; Scott said, quoting Psalm 139:14. &#8220;But it is your responsibility at a certain age to take responsibility of your life and to make the most out of it.&#8221;
&#8220;Do not let your dad&#8217;s absence be an excuse for doing something that you will later regret,&#8221; he added.
Scott told Tapper that even though his own father had left when he was young, he&#8217;d always felt motivated to go out and make him proud.

CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten said on Thursday that the American people were sending a very clear message to former President Joe Biden and his family: &#8220;Go away.&#8221;
Enten discussed the Bidens and their apparent waning popularity even as former first lady Jill Biden continues to do press for her new memoir, &#8220;View From The East Wing&#8221; — and as Joe Biden is expected to release a memoir later in the year.

Anchor John Berman asked Enten how the Bidens were doing in terms of popularity following Jill Biden&#8217;s book release, and the short answer was clear: not well.
&#8220;The American people have one message for the Bidens that is: go away!” Enten said, repeating, “Go away!”
&#8220;I mean, just look at this. Look at Biden&#8217;s net favorable rating in January of 2025; it was -22 points. Has it gone any better? No, not really,&#8221; Enten continued. &#8220;He’s still way underwater here at -19 points. He’s 28 points underwater with independents. Joe Biden ended his term as president as quite unpopular. And he remains quite unpopular.”
Enten went on to reveal why even some Democrats who might personally like the former president would still prefer that he remained out of the public eye: &#8220;He is an anchor to the Democratic Party and potentially their fortunes in the 2026 midterm elections.&#8221;
Berman asked how Biden compared to other former presidents — particularly Democrats — and the news did not get any better: former Presidents Barack Obama (+31), Bill Clinton (-3), and Jimmy Carter (+22) all fared much better than Biden.
The former first lady was in the same proverbial boat as her husband, Enten added.
&#8220;Jill Biden – obviously not Joe Biden, though they are married – okay, just look at this. Was she a popular first lady? Dem first lady’s net favorability at the end of their final term? She was just two points above water. Obviously, not as bad as Joe Biden, but Michelle Obama was 43 points above water. Hillary Clinton was 13 points above water,&#8221; he said.

Regular CNN commentator Scott Jennings exposed what he believed was the accused assassin&#8217;s flaw in targeting Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.
In a speech that was originally given in February and <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3KCxZqSUJfs&amp;t=1s">posted publicly</a> by Hillsdale College on Friday, Jennings told a crowd at Hillsdale College&#8217;s National Leadership Seminar in Amelia Island, Florida, that he thought the gunman&#8217;s ultimate goal was not just to kill Kirk himself, but to put an end to the movement he&#8217;d started — and that he&#8217;d failed because the ideas Kirk stood for could never be killed.

Jennings began by pointing to some of the things being taught on college campuses across the United States — namely that the nation was built on racism, the traditional family unit was a tool of oppression, and capitalism was rooted in evil — and commended Kirk for seeing that and trying to make a difference.
&#8220;I think when the shooter pulled the trigger in Utah, he thought he was ending a movement. He thought if he could kill someone like Charlie Kirk, he could kill what Charlie stood for,&#8221; Jennings continued. &#8220;That the rest of us would get the message, that we would heed the warning: &#8216;Silence yourselves or we will do it for you.&#8217; That’s what they thought.&#8221;

Ted Turner, the billionaire media mogul who founded CNN, TNT, and TBS, has died, several media outlets reported Wednesday. 
Turner, 87, who is credited with creating the 24-hour news cycle, died on Wednesday at his home near Tallahassee, Florida. In 2018, <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2026/05/06/business/media/ted-turner-dead.html">Turner revealed</a> he had Lewy body dementia, a progressive brain disease.
“Ted was an intensely involved and committed leader, intrepid, fearless and always willing to back a hunch and trust his own judgment,” Mark Thompson, chairman and CEO of CNN Worldwide, <a href="https://www.wtae.com/article/billionaire-media-mogul-ted-turner-dies-at-87/71229676">said in a statement</a>. “He was and always will be the presiding spirit of CNN. Ted is the giant on whose shoulders we stand, and we will all take a moment today to recognize him and his impact on our lives and the world.”
President Donald Trump commented on the passing of the media mogul, referring to him as &#8220;one of the Greats of All Time&#8221; in a Truth Social post.

Turner also devoted significant time and resources to environmental conservation efforts.

The idea was that, in the event of an apocalypse, viewers would see this instead of regular news programming.

U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro gave an update on the investigation into Cole Tomas Allen — who opened fire one week earlier at the White House Correspondents&#8217; Dinner — and said that it was clear the would-be assassin had an inflated sense of his own capabilities.
Pirro, the U.S. Attorney assigned to Washington, D.C., spoke with CNN&#8217;s Jake Tapper about the ongoing investigation in Allen&#8217;s actions and motives — and she described the shooter&#8217;s actions leading up to the moment he charged a security checkpoint manned by the United States Secret Service.
Tapper began by asking Pirro — who was in attendance at the dinner herself — whether the fact that she could have been a potential target meant that she should recuse herself from the case entirely. Pirro was adamant that the two things were unconnected.
&#8220;Absolutely not. I mean, there is no way &#8230; my ability to prosecute this case has nothing to do with my being there,&#8221; she said.

Pirro went on to address Allen&#8217;s behavior and actions leading up to the assassination attempt, much of which was either recovered from his personal effects or captured by security cameras at the Washington Hilton.
&#8220;Clearly, the president is a target. And make no mistake, it is not just the manifesto. It is his actions,&#8221; Pirro said of the suspect, who referred to himself as the &#8220;Friendly Federal Assassin&#8221; throughout the manifesto he sent to family. &#8220;I mean, this guy thought he was Rambo.&#8221;
&#8220;And he takes a picture of himself. He is smug, he is proud, and he is focused on what he’s doing,&#8221; Pirro added.
&#8220;I think if you read the manifesto … it is very clear who the intended target is. It is very clear, based upon the fact that as soon as this president said that he was going to be at the Hilton for the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on March 2nd, [Allen] then made the decision to hatch the plan,&#8221; Pirro told Tapper, adding, &#8220;I can tell you, we will be able to prove that beyond a reasonable doubt.&#8221;
She went on to say that the defense might have a difficult time if they opted to go for an affirmative defense and claim that Allen was insane: &#8220;The one issue that people might think about is, is he insane. He is far from insane. He is brilliant. He has a master’s degree. He work[ed] at a NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory.&#8221;

Stefanik joined the longtime host of &#8220;State of the Union&#8221; to discuss her book, &#8220;<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/elise-stefanik-the-moment-the-ivy-league-lost-the-country">Poisoned Ivies</a>&#8221; — where she confronts the &#8220;academic and moral rot&#8221; that have taken over America&#8217;s elite educational institutions — and Tapper used her criticisms of the recent pro-Hamas protests to lay a rhetorical trap for her.
Stefanik shared a clip from Sunday morning&#8217;s interview along with her own caption that read, &#8220;@jaketapper falsely compares President Trump to the radical pro-Hamas antisemites who physically assaulted, spit on American students faces, drew swastikas on their doors, and rioted and destroyed university property. Tapper began by noting that Stefanik had called out the anti-semitic protests at the time, saying, &#8220;You were praised by many in the Jewish community when you criticized the college presidents who refused to condemn students for chanting ‘From the river to the sea,’ which many Jews interpret to be, and you agreed — you characterized it as a genocide, a call for genocide, to wipe out all the Jews in Israel, ‘From the river to the sea.'&#8221;
But then he pivoted: &#8220;So just to be clear, you believe that wiping out an entire civilization is genocidal and nobody should make a call to do such a thing?&#8221;
Stefanik said yes, genocide is always bad.
&#8220;That’s why the question I asked, which was, does calling for the genocide of Jews violate your university’s code of conduct, yes or no? I worded it because it was a very simple straightforward question. It was not a political one. And the world heard as these universities equivocated saying it depends on the context or it’s a context-dependent decision. It is not,&#8221; she said.
Tapper dropped the other shoe then, referencing Trump&#8217;s blustery Truth Social posted threatening the Iranian regime and asking, &#8220;What did you think when President Trump threatened to obliterate the entire Iranian civilization?&#8221;
Stefanik pushed back immediately, noting that Trump had been speaking directly to the Iranian regime in an attempt to verbally strong-arm them to the negotiating table.
&#8220;And what did it do? It brought the Iranians to the table. It led to the ceasefire. We know that President Trump has very strong statements when it comes to his tweets, but it has been targeted towards the Iranian terrorist regime,&#8221; she said.
&#8220;He said the entire civilization will die,&#8221; Tapper insisted.
&#8220;He was focused on the Iranian terrorist regime. And Jake, isn’t it true that it brought the Iranians to the table to a cease-fire agreement?&#8221; Stefanik continued.
&#8220;I don’t know,&#8221; Tapper replied.
&#8220;It did, because they had a ceasefire agreement going on for days. And President Trump is correct to call out the Iranian terrorist regime, which has financed Hamas and Hezbollah, which I believe has led to some of the financing of the skyrocketing antisemitism,&#8221; Stefanik said.
&#8220;Yes, but I’m not talking about the regime,&#8221; Tapper protested.
&#8220;Jake, you can ask this question, but the reality is it was targeted towards the Iranian terrorist regime. It was an effective tool to bring them to the table. They have no cards,&#8221; Stefanik added.
Tapper continued to insist that he was not talking about the regime, and that what Trump had said was clearly a call for genocide — but Stefanik was not convinced.
&#8220;I just have to say it’s interesting that a 20-year-old college kid on a campus yelling ‘From the river to the sea,’ that’s worthy of condemnation, but a President of the United States who actually has—&#8221; Tapper began.
&#8220;You don’t think it’s worthy of condemnation? Jake, you don’t think it’s worthy of condemnation of students that are targeting Jewish students, that are physically assaulting them, that are spitting in their face, that are drawing swastikas on their doors, these students who have to hire security?”
“I don’t need a lesson on what it’s like to be a Jewish student,” Tapper replied.
“But you’re equivocating, like those university presidents,&#8221; Stefanik declared.
The two went on in that same vein for several minutes as Tapper tried unsuccessfully to end the interview.
&#8220;President Trump was not calling for genocide. Shame on CNN for saying that,&#8221; Stefanik jabbed as they wrapped the segment.

CNN&#8217;s Michael Smerconish laid waste to calls for the 25th Amendment to be invoked against President Donald Trump — based on claims that President Donald Trump was erratic and out of control — saying that the &#8220;madness&#8221; was simply part of his process.
Smerconish argued that if Trump were truly a candidate for removal via the 25th Amendment — reserved for a president who is incapacitated or rendered incapable of doing his job — there would be signs that permeated the rest of his life outside his bombastic social media posts.

&#8220;A crazy person doesn&#8217;t live in the White House. A person who plays a crazy person a lot on TV lives there,&#8221; Smerconish began, attributing the statement to comedian and HBO host Bill Maher.
The CNN host went on to lay out some of the president&#8217;s recent social media posts directed at Iran — specifically his demand that they &#8220;open the f*ckin&#8217; strait&#8221; and his later prediction stating &#8220;a whole civilization will die tonight&#8221; — which Democrats had cited as evidence that Trump was too erratic to be president. They quickly ramped up calls to either invoke the 25th Amendment against him or impeach him for a third time.

CNN&#8217;s chief data analyst Harry Enten threw cold water on the Democratic Party as the 2026 midterm elections approach, saying that at least in terms of popularity, they were well behind where they had been in previous years.
Enten joined anchor John Berman on Monday morning to discuss the elections — less than eight months away — and said that Democrats were nowhere near where they had been in previous midterm elections when the president was a Republican.

&#8220;Just take a look at this, net favorability, party ahead at this point, midterm years with a GOP president. In 2018, Dems were up by 12,&#8221; Enten said. &#8220;In 2006, on net favorability, which party do you like more, Dems are ahead by 18. Republicans are actually ahead on net favorability at this [point] by five points. So Democrats are just, simply put, running behind their previous benchmarks and they need to be running well ahead of them if they want to take back the United States Senate, given that math.&#8221;
Just a few minutes earlier, Enten laid out the <a href="https://www.mediaite.com/media/tv/cnn-data-guru-reveals-gop-may-keep-the-senate-thanks-to-dems-historically-low-midterm-lead/">reasons</a> he believed that Democrats had a relatively decent shot at taking control of the U.S. House in the midterms, but would have a much harder time gaining a majority in the Senate.
Citing a small lead for Democrats on generic ballots, Enten said that spread might just be enough to overcome the slim Republican margin in the House of Representatives.
&#8220;I would say this, Mr. Berman, and that is that this lead is historically low for Democrats at this point with a Republican president,&#8221; Enten explained. &#8220;Because, take a look here, and I’m taking a look at the average of all the polls, Dem generic congressional ballot lead at this point in the cycle with a Republican president. On average, their lead’s actually slightly less, it’s five points. That’s less than it was back in 2018 when it was eight points, and way less than it was during the 2006 cycle when it was 11 points.&#8221;
&#8220;So, yeah, Democrats are ahead, but they’re only ahead by five with a president whose net approval rating is bordering on -20 to -30, depending on what polls you look at. You’d make the argument Democrats should be way ahead. And they’re just only sort of, slightly ahead,&#8221; he added.
That math, according to Enten, would not help Democrats in the Senate because of the map in play in 2026.
&#8220;I think five points is enough to take back the House, but in the Senate, five points is almost certainly not enough if you apply it to the Senate map,&#8221; Enten argued. &#8220;Why do I say that? Because let’s just take a look, GOP would win the Senate with this map. Let’s say Republicans only hold onto the states that Trump won by greater than 10 points. That would, in fact, give them the Senate 51 to 49.&#8221;
Given the current Senate makeup — 53 Republicans, 47 Democrats, and two independents who caucus with Democrats — Democrats would have to flip at least four seats in November in order to take the majority. On a map that Enten identified as far more friendly to the GOP, <a href="https://ballotpedia.org/U.S._Senate_battlegrounds,_2026">Ballotpedia</a> has identified ten seats in total — eight of them currently held by Republicans — as potential &#8220;battlegrounds&#8221;: Alaska (R), Montana (R), Texas (R), Nebraska (R), Wisconsin (D), Ohio (R), Florida (R), North Carolina (R), New Hampshire (D), and Maine (R).

“President Donald Trump wants the entire Department of Homeland Security funded. He wants the government open and funded,” Homan said. “But the bottom line is they want changes in ICE tactics. They want changes in policy.” Homan argued that Immigration and Customs Enforcement is simply carrying out laws that have remained consistent across multiple administrations.
“The same laws ICE follows today have been in place during the Clinton, Obama [administrations], and now,” he said. “The law hasn’t changed.” According to Homan, lawmakers are privately pushing to limit arrests rather than openly advocating for abolishing ICE.
“They can say they don’t want to abolish ICE — I’m in the room,” he said. “They want to change operations so we arrest fewer people.” The remarks come as Congress remains locked in a dispute over DHS funding, with negotiations increasingly tied to immigration enforcement demands. Some lawmakers have pushed for additional oversight measures and operational restrictions, including expanded use of body cameras and clearer guidelines around enforcement locations.
Homan noted that ICE has already engaged in discussions on some of those issues, including funding for body cameras, which he said has been allocated at roughly $120 million. But he rejected claims that agents are routinely targeting sensitive locations such as churches or hospitals.
“They can’t point to a single instance—not one—where we’ve arrested anybody in a church or inside of a hospital,” Homan said. “We already practice discretion. We don’t do operations there unless there’s a significant national security threat.”
He added that while discussions over enforcement practices could continue, they should not come at the expense of funding the department. “Why can’t these discussions continue while we keep the Department of Homeland Security open?” Homan said. “They’re holding the department hostage because they don’t like what ICE is doing.”
At the center of the dispute is a fundamental divide between the House and Senate over whether immigration enforcement agencies should be fully funded. The Senate passed a bipartisan measure to reopen most of DHS but excluded funding for ICE and parts of Customs and Border Protection, an approach backed by Democrats but rejected by House Republicans. 
House Republicans instead pushed a short-term <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/mar/28/us-house-stopgap-dhs-funding-bill-republicans-senate?">funding bill</a> that includes full funding for ICE, arguing that enforcement agencies should not be carved out of appropriations. That measure passed narrowly but faces strong opposition in the Senate, prolonging the stalemate. 
The deadlock has had tangible consequences across the country. Tens of thousands of DHS employees, particularly Transportation Security Administration workers, have gone without pay for weeks, leading to staffing shortages, airport delays, and mounting pressure on the administration to act. 
President Trump has attempted to mitigate the fallout by signing an emergency order to ensure TSA agents receive pay, which Homan later <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/03/29/us-news/tom-homan-reveals-when-tsa-will-start-getting-paid-again-following-trumps-executive-order/?">said</a> during the interview “There is a plan to get these TSA agents paid, hopefully by tomorrow or Tuesday,” but many other DHS functions remain affected as lawmakers continue to clash over immigration policy and enforcement reforms. 
Democrats have insisted that any long-term funding deal must include new restrictions or oversight on ICE operations, while Republicans argue that such demands amount to undermining existing law enforcement authority, mirroring the criticism Homan leveled in his interview.
Homan framed the dispute as a fundamental separation-of-powers issue, arguing that Congress should change the law if it disagrees with enforcement outcomes.
“If they don’t like what ICE is doing, then change the law,” he said. “That’s their job.”
As negotiations continue, the standoff underscores a broader clash in Washington over immigration enforcement, one that is increasingly spilling into funding battles with real consequences for federal agencies and the everyday Americans they employ.

Israeli ambassador to the U.S. Michael Leiter discussed Iran’s attempted ballistic missile strike Saturday targeting Diego Garcia, the joint U.S.-U.K. military base in the Indian Ocean more than 2,000 miles from Iran.
Appearing Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union” with Dana Bash, Leiter was first asked about the missile strikes in Israel on Saturday evening that caused significant damage.
“Israel&#8217;s emergency response service declared a mass casualty event, as I mentioned. Can you give an update on the ground there? And also, what kind of response do we expect from Israel?” Bash asked.
Leiter said there were “a number of fatalities” and that more than 150 people were injured in the attacks on Arad and Dimona.
“The response is going to be to continue with this campaign until we bring this regime to its knees,” Leiter stated. “We cannot live anymore with a country that is malign, that has intent on destroying us, that declares it&#8217;s going to destroy us all the time, and is now firing ballistic missiles into all of its neighbors. This has to stop.”
Bash then pressed Leiter on the ICBMs that were fired at Diego Garcia: “Doesn&#8217;t that fly in the face of the claim by the president and the prime minister that the missiles that the Iranians have have been obliterated?”
Leiter hit back, saying that the missile launch reinforces the point that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Donald Trump have made, which is that Iran lies.
“The Iranian regime lie. These are murderers who lie. It shouldn&#8217;t surprise us — and they said they don&#8217;t have intercontinental ballistic missiles. Well, now they prove that they do have them. Not only do they have them; they&#8217;re willing to shoot them,” the ambassador said. “They claimed, until now, there was no such thing as an ICBM in Iran. They didn&#8217;t develop them.”
Leiter then painted a frightening scenario, asking Bash to imagine that the ICBMs Iran lied about having don’t simply travel 2,000 miles, but 4,000 miles or more, which would allow them to strike a major city in the United States.
“That&#8217;s what they&#8217;re planning to do. Now, imagine that those ICBMs are tipped with nuclear warheads, which they were planning to do as well. So, we have to face a very difficult situation,” he said before noting that while gas prices are temporarily higher as a result of the war, they will return to normal.
“But this malign government is intent on taking lives. Lives don&#8217;t come back, okay? It’s a temporary issue we have to face economically in order to protect lives and save lives from malign regime interested in taking lives.”

Citing Republican views on potential U.S. military action in Iran, Enten said 90% of MAGA Republicans approve, compared to 54% of non-MAGA Republicans. Among MAGA voters, just 5% expressed disapproval.
“Those who disapprove… they ain’t MAGA,” Enten said.
The disconnect highlights a broader question emerging from the debate: whether the current divide represents a genuine fracture within the Republican electorate, or a loud but limited conflict among high-profile figures and online activists.
