President Donald Trump announced Friday that he is banning CNN, MS NOW, and Politico from the White House, accusing the three news organizations of repeatedly publishing what he called “FAKE NEWS.”

“I am proud to announce that, effective immediately, I am banning Fake News CNN, MSNOW … and Politico … from the White House as a result of their constant ‘reporting’ FAKE NEWS!” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform Friday.

Trump accused the Left-wing outlets of reporting “FICTION and LIES” about his administration, citing the coverage as a rationale for restricting their access to the White House and setting up a likely legal clash over First Amendment protections.

“Media Outlets shouldn’t be able to constantly write or report FICTION and LIES when they’re covering the President of the United States, the Trump Administration, or the United States of America,” Trump wrote.

He teased that “other Fake News Media Outlets” would also be banned from the White House.

In the lengthy post, Trump specifically pointed to the federal government’s payments for Politico subscriptions under the Biden administration, calling them an “illegal and ridiculous $8 Million Dollar subscription” and alleging that the payments were intended to keep the outlet “alive.”

The issue took center stage in February 2025 when then-White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced that Politico would no longer receive millions of dollars from the federal government, which she said was “essentially subsidizing subscriptions,” The Daily Wire reported.

“I was made aware of the funding from USAID to media outlets, including Politico, who I know has a seat in this room,” Leavitt said. “I can confirm that the more than $8 million taxpayer dollars that have gone to essentially subsidizing subscriptions to Politico on the American taxpayers’ dime will no longer be happening. The DOGE team is working on canceling those payments now.”

Trump did not specify how the White House will enforce the media ban on the three organizations, marking the latest public clash with a major news organization. Also in February, the Trump White House indefinitely barred the Associated Press from entering the Oval Office and boarding Air Force One, pointing to the outlet’s continued use of “Gulf of Mexico” instead of the administration’s newly proclaimed “Gulf of America.”

As of Friday afternoon, none of the three media outlets have officially responded to Trump’s announcement.
