Buttigieg told host Kristen Welker that the court has come to look like a &#8220;nakedly partisan institution&#8221; and calling for six additional justices to be added to the current nine-member bench — a bigger expansion than he has previously floated.
&#8220;It has become a nakedly partisan institution,&#8221; he said. &#8220;And I want to be clear. The idea is not to just add justices for its own sake. The idea is to reform the institution, to make it less partisan.&#8221;
The comments extend a message Buttigieg has delivered repeatedly since at least July, when he told Fox News that public confidence in the court had fallen to what he called the lowest point in its history, and proposed a package of changes including term limits for justices and a &#8220;balanced bench&#8221; selection process meant to reduce political influence over appointments. At that time, Buttigieg said he favored expanding the court from nine seats to 13, a number he said should match what he called &#8220;the number of districts&#8221; in the federal system. In fact, the federal judiciary has 94 judicial districts; the number 13 refers to the appellate circuits, not districts — an error critics flagged after his July remarks.

Officials said the unidentified woman had been dropped off nearby by an Uber before approaching the residence and making contact with security personnel, who told her she could not remain on the property. She initially left, but returned a short time later, prompting the call to law enforcement.
When deputies arrived, they made contact with the woman, who was still outside the residence, and advised her to leave. She did so voluntarily, and no arrest or citation was made. The sheriff&#8217;s department said it took a trespassing report and would set up patrols in the area as a precaution. It remains unclear why the woman came to the property or why she returned after being turned away.
Neither Harris nor her husband, Doug Emhoff, was home when the incident occurred. All runways and taxiways at Miami International were shut down amid a ground stop expected to last into the evening.
Amazon spokeswoman Kelly Nantel confirmed to NBC News that the aircraft was operating a Prime Air route on behalf of the company but was flown by contract carrier 21 Air. &#8220;This is a fast-moving situation and we&#8217;re still gathering the details,&#8221; Nantel said, adding that Amazon was coordinating with local authorities.
The National Transportation Safety Board told the outlet it is collecting information on the incident. A cause has not been determined, and it remains unclear whether the crew declared an emergency before landing.
