On Saturday, the Los Angeles Times published <a href="https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2024-09-07/column-they-say-democrats-are-to-blame-for-all-californias-problems-but-gop-is-mia">an opinion column</a> titled: “They say Democrats are to blame for all California’s problems. But GOP is MIA.”
Knowing that California has been controlled by Democrats for decades, social media users on X blasted the outlet, with Republicans in The Golden State offering the harshest critique.
Jennifer Van Laar, an investigative journalist for RedState based in California, said Democrats “shut down [GOP] mics in the legislature and refuse to bring our bills out of committee.”
“We&#8217;re not MIA. We&#8217;ve been shut out of governing,” she added.

Kevin Dalton, a former candidate for Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors for District 1, provided a chart showing Democrats in the state have a supermajority in both the state Senate and Assembly. In the state Senate, Democrats hold 31 out of 40 seats, or 77.5% of Senate seats. In the Assembly, they hold 62 out of 80 seats, or 77.5%.

“The LA Times wants to know why only the Democratic supermajority that has had a strangle hold on California over the last two decades is taking the blame for the unmitigated disaster California has become over the last two decades,” Dalton wrote on X.
Dalton followed up his tweet with a video showing that since 1992, Democrats have held a trifecta (governorship, Senate, Assembly of state control 19 years while Republicans only once (in 1996) held more than one chamber (governor and Assembly). And since 2011, Democrats have had complete control of the state.

A man in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/california" target="_blank" rel="noopener">California</a> was arrested this week for allegedly going on a shooting spree late at night, killing more than 80 animals at a property located next to where he lived.
The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office arrested 39-year-old Vicente Joseph Arroyo after he shot animals for nearly three hours during the early morning hours on Tuesday in a vineyard in Prunedale, which is located roughly 100 miles south of San Francisco.
A shelter in place order was put into effect while officers <a href="https://mcso.countyofmonterey.gov/press-releases/press-release-update-mcso-swat-team-arrests-active-shooter-who-killed-over-80-animals" target="_blank" rel="noopener">searched</a> a five-mile radius as the shooting happened. While they could hear the gun shots, they struggled to find the suspect because it was &#8220;extremely dark&#8221; and the area was &#8220;covered in thick vegetation.&#8221;
A SWAT team made contact with the suspect after a police drone revealed an individual in the area who had crashed a vehicle. Arroyo was arrested and taken into custody without further incident, police said.
&#8220;Once the scene was secured, it was discovered that Arroyo had killed approximately 80 animals including miniature horses, goats, rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens, ducks and other types of birds,&#8221; police said. &#8220;Some animals had survived but were taken by SPCA to be euthanized due to the severity of their injuries.&#8221;

Multiple firearms were located at the scene and more were recovered from his trailer where he lived after police executed a search warrant.
&#8220;It is without a doubt that the warrant served by our deputies and detectives, which has resulted in the seizure of these additional weapons, has made our community safer,&#8221; said Monterey County Sheriff Tina Nieto. &#8220;I am confident that we have prevented another tragedy from happening in the future.&#8221;
Arroyo was charged with Willful Discharge of a Firearm with Gross Negligence, Cruelty to Animals, Illegal Possession of Assault Weapon, Vandalism, Criminal Threats, and Felon In Possession of a Firearm.
Bail was initially set at $50,000, but the Monterey County Sheriff&#8217;s Office was able to obtain a bail enhancement, boosting his bail to $1,000,000.

California Gov. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/gavin-newsom" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Gavin Newsom</a> killed a bill that would have allowed illegal immigrants to be eligible for a housing program where they could receive an interest-free loan worth up to $150,000 for a home purchase.
On Friday, Newsom vetoed the bill proposed by Democratic Assemblymember Joaquin Arambula of Fresno that would make illegal immigrants eligible for California’s Home Purchase Assistance Program, which allows some first-time home buyers to get up to $150,000 in interest-free loans for a home down payment, <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/sacramento/news/newsom-vetoes-bill-undocumented-immigrants-home-loans-california/">CBS News</a> reported.
&#8220;Given the finite funding available for CalHFA programs, expanding program eligibility must be carefully considered within the broader context of the annual state budget to ensure we manage our resources effectively,&#8221; Newsom said in a message <a href="https://www.gov.ca.gov/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/AB-1840-Veto-Message.pdf">addressed to members of the state Assembly</a> after vetoing the bill.
At a briefing later that day, Newsom defended his move to kill the bill, <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2024/09/06/newsom-california-undocumented-immigrants-homes-00177748">Politico</a> reported.
“The bill that was sent to me was [on] a program that had no money, and it was expanding eligibility to a program that had no money,” Newsom said.
“It seemed rather curious to me,” he added. “So it was unnecessary and completely consistent with prior vetoes along those similar lines.”
The bill passed 53-18 in the state Assembly and 25-14 in the Senate before heading to the governor’s desk.

No Republicans in the Assembly or Senate voted in favor of the proposal and argued that the bill’s passage would continue to incentivize illegal immigration and create unfair competition for American citizens struggling to buy a home, as <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ca-dems-pass-bill-to-give-illegal-immigrants-up-to-150k-interest-free-home-loans">The Daily Wire</a> previously reported.
“It’s a slap in the face to legal immigrants when we incentivize the breaking of our laws and the normalizing of being in this country unlawfully,” said Assemblymember Bill Essayli (R). “We need to close our border. This is a problem of our own making. We have made the borders wide open, millions of people are coming over and now the state of California is creating a huge incentive for those who came here illegally to come to California.”
Newsom’s veto comes a day after former <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/donald-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">President Donald Trump</a> talked about the “flood” of millions of people entering the country illegally, which he said has driven up housing costs.

Convicted felon <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/hunter-biden" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hunter Biden</a>, son of President Joe Biden, released a statement on Thursday following his decision to plead guilty to nine tax counts, saying that he wanted to spare his family the pain of going through another criminal trial.
Hunter Biden pled guilty to three felonies and six misdemeanors in a Los Angeles federal court on Thursday and did so without having any deal with prosecutors to reduce the penalties that he now faces, which includes a maximum prison sentence of 17 years and a maximum fine of more than $1 million — penalties that are separate from the penalties he faces after being convicted of three firearm-related felonies in June.

As District Attorney of San Francisco, Kamala Harris proposed a program for drug dealers that would have allowed criminals to only be charged for selling narcotics on their third arrest. 
San Francisco’s chief of police at the time sent an October 24, 2005 letter to Harris declining to participate in the program, “Operation Safe Streets,” according to a copy of the letter obtained by The Daily Wire. 
“This proposal asks us not to arrest, but instead detain and release observed narcotics sales suspects pursuant to Penal Code Section 849(b) P.C. When the same suspect is arrested the third time for narcotics sales, your office would then charge all three counts,” wrote Heather Fong, who served as police chief until 2009. 
The revelation comes as Harris attempts to campaign as a tough-on-crime, law-and-order prosecutor, touting her past record and <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/08/17/us/kamala-harris-prosecutor-criminal-justice-reform.html">describing herself</a> as someone who “took on perpetrators of all kinds — predators who abused women, fraudsters who ripped off consumers, cheaters who broke the rules for their own gain.” 
But back in 2005, the police chief warned Harris that her proposed policy would allow narcotics sellers to immediately be released back onto the streets without consequences, encourage dealers to come to San Francisco, potentially increase violent crime in the city, and result in a double standard, “as adults would be released while juveniles would be booked.” 
“Additionally, narcotics dealers who sell drugs near a school would be released after only a brief detention,” Fong continued, noting, “Undoubtedly, this would send the wrong message to observant children who unfortunately witness drug dealing activity on a regular basis.” 
The chief also warned that the public would not view a “detain and release” program favorably, since neither the community nor the police department are sympathetic to drug dealers who “exploit for profit the weakness of others.” She also noted that it would be bad for officer morale and “counter to what every officer is taught.”

Harris’ office told The Daily Journal in April 2006 that the idea behind the proposal was not to allow criminals to get off the hook, but instead help prosecutors build stronger cases against them. The Daily Journal reported that “police have scoffed at the plan.” 
“Defense attorneys who regularly represent drug dealers also are pooh poohing Harris’ plan, saying it sounds weird and unworkable,” The Daily Journal’s Dennis Opatrny wrote at the time. 
Harris’ criminal division chief, Jeff Ross, reportedly suggested to the police chief at the time that they should move forward with the program despite potential media criticisms. 
“It is true that San Francisco is home to some media outlets that may perceive of this program as being too tough on narcotics offenders, because more dealers will wind up behind bars as a result of this approach,” he wrote, adding, “I’m sure you would agree that we must pursue effective enforcement approaches without regard to whether there might be critical media coverage.” 
The Harris campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Daily Wire. 
A report <a href="https://www.heritage.org/heritage-bombshell-report-exposes-kamala-harriss-pro-crime-record">released Wednesday</a> from The Heritage Foundation found that she has always been “soft-on-crime,” though her representations of her record have varied based on her audience or political climate: she has shown support for defunding the police, bail policies that let violent criminals back onto the streets, and did not seek the death penalty in a number of “egregious cases,” according to the report. 
Just weeks after the death of George Floyd, a black man who died in police custody while an officer knelt on his neck, Harris <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2024/07/26/politics/kfile-kamala-harris-praised-defund-the-police-movement-in-june-2020/index.html">claimed</a> that it “is outdated and is actually wrong and backward to think that more police officers will create more safety.” 
She also promised to end cash bail, expunge some felon records, end federal mandatory minimum sentences, get rid of court-ordered fines, impose more restrictions on cops, and more, <a href="https://freebeacon.com/democrats/inside-kamala-harriss-plan-to-end-cash-bail-and-transform-the-criminal-justice-system/">according to a memo from her 2020 presidential campaign exposed</a> by the Washington Free Beacon in July.

In mid-July, California Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom signed AB 1955 into law, making his state the first in the nation to ban school districts from alerting parents of their children’s sexuality or if they have adopted gender identities that conflict with those on their school records.

“This bill would prohibit school districts, county offices of education, charter schools, and the state special schools, and a member of the governing board or body of those educational entities, from enacting or enforcing any policy, rule, or administrative regulation that requires an employee or a contractor to disclose any information related to a pupil’s sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression to any other person without the pupil’s consent unless otherwise required by law,” Assembly Bill 1955 <a href="https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billTextClient.xhtml?bill_id=202320240AB1955" target="_blank" rel="noopener">states</a>. “LGBTQ+ pupils have the right to express themselves freely at school without fear, punishment, or retaliation, including that teachers or administrators might ‘out’ them without their permission. The following month, California Attorney General Rob Bonta filed a temporary restraining order to bar the district from implementing that policy.

A former top California Democrat said she is switching to the Republican Party and voting for former President Donald Trump.
Gloria Romero, who led the Democratic majority in California&#8217;s state Senate for three years until 2008, announced her decision Wednesday during a press conference at the California State Capitol.

Romero said she has changed her voter registration from Democrat to Republican, saying the Republican Party has become the &#8220;champion of working people&#8221; under Trump.
&#8220;I will vote for Donald Trump this fall,&#8221; she said.
Romero cited several issues that drove her to abandon the Democratic Party, including what she called &#8220;rigged&#8221; primaries.
Democrats &#8220;eradicated&#8221; 14 million votes to install their &#8220;preferred candidate,&#8221; Vice President Kamala Harris as presidential nominee, Romero said, comparing the party&#8217;s tactics to Latin American dictatorships.
She also cited gender ideology, saying it is &#8220;terrifying&#8221; that she, as a feminist, &#8220;would be condemned for saying that I can define a woman.&#8221;
&#8220;This is the so-called party of women which has eradicated Title IX protections for sports equity for women,&#8221; Romero said, adding that, &#8220;while I am pro-choice, I will not support a party that advocates for abortion to full term.  I am a mother and refuse to call myself a &#8216;birthing person.'&#8221;
Romero, who is Mexican American, also criticized Democrats on immigration, saying that while she has long embraced pathways to citizenship, she rejects the &#8220;mockery of citizenship and the throwing open of our southern border by the ineffective Border Czar and the inept Biden.&#8221;
She also cited &#8220;rampant inflation&#8221; and censorship, saying Democrats have become the party of &#8220;locking people up for free speech.&#8221;
Romero also criticized Democrats&#8217; lackluster response to the terror group Hamas&#8217; attack on Israel on October 7, as well as the Biden administration&#8217;s botched withdrawal from Afghanistan.
&#8220;The Republican Party has become the party of peace while the Democrats have marched towards endless war,&#8221; she said.
&#8220;Perhaps my biggest disconnect with my old Democratic Party has been over school choice, education freedom and the right to have quality schools for all — especially for poor and minority children trapped in chronically failing schools,&#8221; she said.

As chairwoman of the education committee, Romero <a href="https://stateimpact.npr.org/florida/2012/02/02/q-a-gloria-romero-author-of-californias-parent-trigger-law/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">helped</a> pass a controversial &#8220;parent trigger&#8221; bill that allowed a majority of parents of a &#8220;failing school&#8221; to restructure it.
&#8220;This is not the Democratic Party that I once championed, I don’t recognize it anymore and I cannot continue,&#8221; she said.
Romero was also the California co-chair for the re-election of former President Barack Obama. She was the first woman to serve as state Senate majority leader in California.

San Francisco 49ers first-round draft pick Ricky Pearsall was shot on Saturday by a 17-year-old boy who was allegedly attempting to steal his Rolex watch while he was en route to a signing event.
The football team said in a statement that he was released from the hospital on Sunday after being shot in the chest.
&#8220;He and his family, along with the entire San Francisco 49ers organization, would like to thank the San Francisco Police Department, emergency medical services, doctors and staff at San Francisco General Hospital,&#8221; the team said.
Police said that the suspect, who was not named because he was a minor, tried to rob Pearsall at gun point at which point Pearsall tried to fight back and get control of the weapon. During the course of the struggle for the gun, both individuals were shot by the same weapon.
Both individuals were taken to the hospital and the suspect is now in custody.

Former House Speaker <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/nancy-pelosi" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Nancy Pelosi</a> (D-CA) advocated turning millions of illegal aliens into U.S. citizens this week and making them eligible for taxpayer-funded assistance for buying homes.
Pelosi made the remarks during a Friday interview on HBO’s “Real Time” with Bill Maher when asked about a highly controversial bill in California that would make illegal aliens eligible for $150,000 for purchasing homes — even as the state leads the country with the largest number of homeless U.S. citizens.
“What I would like to do is move them to documented,” she said. “One of the best things we can do for our economy is pass comprehensive immigration reform.”
Pelosi admitted that the issue of supporting immigration is no longer “bipartisan” ever since Democrats began to weaponize the issue and sought to import voters whom they believe will end up voting for them.
&#8220;But not free housing,&#8221; Maher responded.
&#8220;Well, that&#8217;s not free housing. It&#8217;s the American Dream being available to more people,&#8221; Pelosi claimed.
“California is always in the lead,” she claimed. “Maybe others will follow that lead, but that&#8217;s up to those states. But we are very blessed here with beautiful diversity.”

Maher then pressed Pelosi to answer whether she would vote for the bill.
&#8220;Well, I&#8217;m not familiar with exactly what that is, but making the American dream of homeownership available to all people is something we have to do for people who are here now,&#8221; Pelosi claimed.
Maher then informed her that the bill was for the benefit of only illegal aliens.

More than 20 illegal immigrants in southern California attempted to board school buses on two separate occasions as the buses were on routes transporting children, school district officials said.
Two bus routes in the Jamul-Dulzura Union School District were interrupted by groups of illegal immigrants earlier this week, forcing the school district to warn parents to &#8220;stay [vigilant],&#8221; Fox 5 San Diego <a href="https://fox5sandiego.com/news/local-news/migrants-attempt-to-board-school-buses-in-east-county/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. The first incident happened on Tuesday afternoon and involved three men walking in the middle of the road and trying to get the school bus filled with children to stop. Superintendent Liz Bystedt said that the bus had to &#8220;go around&#8221; the group to continue on its route.
On Wednesday, another bus stopped at a designated pick-up spot near where the bus from Tuesday was forced to drive around illegal immigrants and was met with a group of 20 illegal immigrants who attempted to board the bus. Bystedt said that parents who were at the bus stop waiting with their children ensured that the kids made it onto the bus safely and that no illegal immigrants boarded.
It is unknown if the groups are connected, the Fox report said.

The superintendent said that the district reported both bus incidents to the U.S. Border Patrol, California Highway Patrol, and San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, according to Fox 5.
“The San Diego Sheriff’s Office was made aware of this incident today. We are conducting a follow up investigation to determine if a criminal act has occurred. The Sheriff’s Office takes issues regarding student safety very seriously and are working with the school district in order to keep the students and our community safe,” the sheriff&#8217;s office said in a statement.
Jamul is just 25 miles from the Mexican border city of Tijuana. The San Diego sector has been a hot spot for illegal border crossing this year, with more than 37,000 arrests made by the U.S. Border Patrol in the area in April, the Associated Press <a href="https://apnews.com/article/san-diego-border-asylum-biden-mexico-da1e7b7c81e4e58912deff6d36dbdb9e" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
As authorities investigate the incidents, the school district said that bus drivers will drive past any bus stops where suspected illegal immigrants are present and told parents to follow the bus to the next stop &#8220;for the safety of students and bus drivers.&#8221;

She added that the district&#8217;s director of maintenance and operations would begin following the buses to &#8220;ensure that everything was quiet.&#8221;

Democrats in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/california" target="_blank" rel="noopener">California</a> passed a bill on Wednesday that allows illegal immigrants to be eligible for a housing program where they could receive an interest-free loan worth up to $150,000 for a home purchase.  
The <a href="https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billTextClient.xhtml?bill_id=202320240AB1840" target="_blank" rel="noopener">legislation</a> makes illegal immigrants eligible for California’s Home Purchase Assistance Program, which allows some first-time home buyers to get up to $150,000 in interest-free loans for a home down payment. The bill passed 53-18 in the state Assembly and 25-14 in the Senate and now heads to Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom&#8217;s desk. No Republicans in the Assembly or Senate voted in favor of the proposal.
According to the legislation, no one applying for the loan can be “disqualified solely based on the applicant’s immigration status.” The state has already spent more than half a billion on the program for nearly 4,000 loans.

The legislation was introduced by Democrat Assemblymember Joaquin Arambula, who said the proposal would help attract people with a good credit score. 
“So for those who have a good credit score and who qualify for a loan, we are saying that we want you to set roots here in our great state if you qualify, only if you qualify,” he said, <a href="https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2024-08-29/california-lawmakers-approve-home-mortgage-aid-to-undocumented-immigrants" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to the Los Angeles Times. 
Republicans argued that the bill&#8217;s passage would continue to incentivize illegal immigration and create unfair competition for American citizens struggling to buy a home. 
“It’s a slap in the face to legal immigrants when we incentivize the breaking of our laws and the normalizing of being in this country unlawfully,” said Assemblymember Bill Essayli (R). “We need to close our border. This is a problem of our own making. We have made the borders wide open, millions of people are coming over and now the state of California is creating a huge incentive for those who came here illegally to come to California.”
