UPDATES: Trump, Vance To Speak At Charlie Kirk’s Memorial

Two children were killed and at least 17 people were wounded when a shooter opened fire at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis on Wednesday morning.
The gunman, who was in his early 20s, is dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O&#8217;Hara. During a press conference after the shooting, O&#8217;Hara said that the two children who were killed were ages 8 and 10. The shooter fired through church windows during school Mass, striking children and worshipers. The students were attending Mass at the Catholic church next to the school when the shooter opened fire.
The shooter was identified as Robin Westman, according to <a href="https://x.com/peterjhasson/status/1960758053625627109">multiple</a> <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/08/27/us-news/minneapolis-catholic-school-gunman-idd-as-robin-westman-while-possible-manifesto-shows-psychotic-obsession-with-mass-shooters/">reports</a>. In 2020, Westman reportedly <a href="https://x.com/peterjhasson/status/1960758053625627109">changed</a> his name from Robert to Robin because he &#8220;identifies as a female and wants her name to reflect that identification,&#8221; according to a Minnesota government document shared online by Washington Free Beacon Editor Peter J. Hasson. Since Westman was a minor at the time of the name change, his mother had to sign the application.
The shooter was carrying a rifle, shotgun, and pistol, and killed himself after firing &#8220;dozens of rounds&#8221; at innocent children, according to O&#8217;Hara. Police believe the shooter fired all three weapons. The shooter barricaded the students and staff in the church by placing a wooden plank against some of the side doors, in an attempt to prevent them from fleeing, O&#8217;Hara said.
The police chief added that 17 other people were wounded in the shooting, 14 of whom were children. One adult and six children are in critical condition, <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/live/2025/08/27/us/minneapolis-church-shooting/4bb55715-d5ea-591a-8eb6-cbd06d35e4b2?smid=url-share">according</a> to the Hennepin County Medical Center.
President Donald Trump said that he had been briefed on the shooting.
&#8220;The FBI quickly responded and they are on the scene,&#8221; Trump <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/115101274999111772">wrote</a> on Truth Social. &#8220;The White House will continue to monitor this terrible situation. Please join me in praying for everyone involved!&#8221;
The Richfield Police Department, which neighbors Minneapolis, <a href="https://www.facebook.com/RichfieldPD/">said</a>, &#8220;Police are responding to an active shooter call. Officers are reporting 20 victims. A man dressed in all black and armed with a rifle was reported at the scene. EMS has requested a Mass Casualty Response and fire crews are bringing in additional resources.&#8221;

Police said the shooting was first reported at 8:27 a.m. local time, and more than 65 units responded. The church and school are located on the 500 block of West 54th Street in Minneapolis. Annunciation Catholic School serves students from kindergarten through 8th grade. Wednesday marked the school&#8217;s third day of the new school year.

President Donald Trump forcefully shot down a Wall Street Journal report on Thursday night claiming that he wrote a birthday letter to Jeffrey Epstein that included a sketch of a naked woman, saying he&#8217;d sue the outlet for claiming otherwise.
&#8220;This is not me,&#8221; Trump told the outlet. &#8220;This is a fake thing.&#8221;
He followed that up with a lengthy statement a few hours after its publication, stating that the paper&#8217;s owner Rupert Murdoch and editor-in-chief Emma Tucker were &#8220;warned directly&#8221; by Trump that the letter &#8220;was a FAKE and, if they print it, they will be sued.&#8221;
&#8220;President Trump will be suing the Wall Street Journal, NewsCorp, and Mr. Murdoch, shortly,&#8221; Trump said.

The Wall Street Journal article claimed that it had obtained a &#8220;letter bearing Trump&#8217;s name&#8221; that was included in a birthday book created for Epstein. It claims that the letter was part of a leather-bound album, and that Trump framed his letter within &#8220;the outline of a naked woman, which appears to be hand-drawn with a heavy marker.&#8221;
Notably, the paper did not include an image of the letter it claimed to have reviewed. It says the letter was part of the trove of Department of Justice papers that have come to be known as the &#8220;Epstein files.&#8221; Neither the DOJ nor the FBI responded to its requests for comment, it disclosed.
Trump has sought to shut down furor surrounding the Epstein disclosures, which started when the DOJ announced nearly two weeks ago that there would be no major release pertaining to Epstein. It also announced that there was no &#8220;client list&#8221; and concluded that there was no evidence calling into question Epstein&#8217;s suicide.
After lashing out at the Wall Street Journal article, Trump publicly stated that he&#8217;d asked his attorney general, Pam Bondi, to release &#8220;any and all&#8221; pertinent Grand Jury testimony on Epstein that a court would allow.
Bondi said she was &#8220;ready to move the court tomorrow to unseal the grand jury transcripts.&#8221;

Trump&#8217;s initial post refuting the Wall Street Journal&#8217;s report argues that if the letter was genuine, there is no chance it wouldn&#8217;t have &#8220;been revealed by Comey, Brennan, Crooked Hillary, and other Radical left Lunatics years ago.&#8221;
All of the documents in question were in the government&#8217;s possession during the Biden administration.

While it is well-documented that Trump and Epstein were friendly when they both lived in New York City, there is no evidence that Trump was involved in any of Epstein&#8217;s criminal wrongdoing. Epstein was not accused of sexual relations with young girls until 2006, years after the two had a falling out.

Speaker Mike Johnson has President Donald Trump&#8217;s signature bill at the finish line.
During a marathon overnight session that at times appeared doomed, Republicans voted 219-213 at about 3:30 a.m. to send the bill to a final vote.
The late hour was not due to procedure, but rather indecision on the Republican side of the aisle. After five Republicans voted against the rule to proceed, coupled with a handful of Republicans who were holding out, Johnson had to scramble to not only find votes, but also get Republicans to switch theirs.
Just before midnight, Johnson said he would hold the vote open for as long as it needed, and started to whip votes, with a helping hand from Trump.
&#8220;Largest Tax Cuts in History and a Booming Economy vs. Biggest Tax Increase in History, and a Failed Economy,&#8221; Trump posted as the legislation stalled. &#8220;What are Republicans waiting for??? What are you trying to prove? MAGA IS NOT HAPPY.&#8221;
Eventually, Johnson got enough votes to the House floor — and convinced one of the opponents, Kentucky&#8217;s Thomas Massie — to vote in favor of the rule. Johnson told reporters that Trump was intimately involved with getting the vote across the finish line, following the play-by-play as he whipped votes.
The final hurdle is a speech by the House&#8217;s top Democrat, Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who began speaking just after the rule passed and, hours later, is still going. Though some expected him to speak for roughly an hour, Jeffries said in his speech: &#8220;I&#8217;m planning to take my sweet time.&#8221;
Jeffries is permitted to speak for as long as he wants, though all he can do is delay the vote, not stop a final vote from occurring. He&#8217;s filling his speech with testimonials from Americans on Medicaid and other social welfare programs that Democrats say would be imperiled by Trump&#8217;s spending legislation.

Johnson had estimated that the final vote would take place at 8:30 a.m., but Jeffries was still going as the hour passed. Still, he appears set to meet Trump&#8217;s Independence Day deadline by a full day.
Passing the &#8220;One, Big, Beautiful Bill&#8221; — which includes not only a major tax cut championed by Trump but also funds his biggest campaign promises — would be a major victory for the president. He had urged Republicans in Congress to put all of their priorities into one piece of legislation, and has been intimately involved in getting it through with narrow majorities in both chambers.
Trump says his legislation, which has been criticized by even some of his allies for not doing enough to reduce the deficit, will lead to unprecedented economic growth.

“Nobody wants to talk about GROWTH, which will be the primary reason that the Big, Beautiful Bill will be one of the most successful pieces of legislation ever passed,” the president said on Wednesday. “THIS GROWTH has already begun at levels never seen before. “Likewise,” he added, “hundreds of Billions of Dollars in Tariffs are filling up the coffers of Treasury. The Tariff money has already arrived and is setting new records! As of 9:00 a.m., Jeffries was still talking on the House floor and again stated his intention to take his time. Vice President JD Vance wrote on X that Republicans who have been there overnight are falling further in line as they listen to his opposition.

President Donald Trump signaled on Friday that the United States has no choice but to acquire Greenland from Denmark for national security reasons.
The president doubled down on his push for the island nation while speaking to reporters in the Oval Office — just a day after Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Trump was dead serious about taking over the island.
&#8220;We need Greenland very importantly, for international security, we have to have Greenland,&#8221; he said. &#8220;It&#8217;s not a question of, &#8216;Do you think we can do without it?&#8217; We can&#8217;t. If you look at Greenland right now, if you look at the waterways, you have Chinese and Russian ships all over the place, and we&#8217;re not going to be able to do that. We&#8217;re not relying on Denmark or anybody else to take care of that situation.&#8221;
&#8220;And we&#8217;re not talking about peace for the United States,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;We&#8217;re talking about world peace. We&#8217;re talking about international security. And right now, you look at it, you have warships all over the place going through right along Greenland. We&#8217;re not going to let that happen. We cannot let that happen, or if it&#8217;s going to happen, we have to be protective of our country.&#8221;
The president said that &#8220;modern day weaponry&#8221; made Greenland &#8220;very important&#8221; from a strategic defense standpoint.
&#8220;If you notice, also some of those, you could call them roadways, they&#8217;re water roadways, but some of those areas are opening up and they&#8217;re opening up,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Ice breakers out there, they&#8217;re opening them. And by just nature, they&#8217;re opening up and they&#8217;re headed right into China, right into Russia, and we have no choice.&#8221;

Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE) was grilled during an interview on Friday for calling on Trump defense officials to resign over their use of a Signal chat group given that he never called for Biden defense officials to resign when they had major screwups.
Coons made the remarks on CNBC&#8217;s &#8220;Squawk Box&#8221; when pressed by co-host Joe Kernen over his calls for Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and National Security Adviser Mike Waltz to resign while he remained silent during the Biden years with regard to Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin.
&#8220;Did you call for Lloyd Austin&#8217;s resignation?&#8221; Kernen asked. &#8220;Not only did we lose 13 service members, we left $70 billion worth of equipment that fell into the hands of the Taliban. Couple of years later, he was out of pocket for two weeks and didn&#8217;t tell the White House.&#8221;
&#8220;Did you ask for him to resign at this point?&#8221; he pressed. &#8220;Are you actually asking for Hegseth and Waltz to resign when you didn&#8217;t ask for Lloyd Austin?&#8221;
Coons claimed that Austin not do anything that put United States national security at risk by getting health care treatment despite not notifying anyone about his hospitalization and surgery for cancer.
&#8220;What about Afghanistan? What about Afghanistan?&#8221; Kernen pressed. &#8220;Did you guys forget that? Is the statute of limitations is over for 4 years?&#8221;
Coons ignored the question and instead continued to talk about Austin&#8217;s surgery for cancer.
Kernen continued to press Coons about Afghanistan, noting that in the past, he had referred to Biden&#8217;s disastrous withdraw as a success.
&#8220;Afghanistan was not a success,&#8221; Kernen said.
Coons continued to deflect by starting to talk about the Houthis.
&#8220;I am not saying that the attack on the Houthis was not a success,&#8221; Coons said. &#8220;I am saying that he demonstrably violated a directive that was just shared in the Pentagon about don&#8217;t use Signal for classified information, it is not reliably secure. And one of the folks on that group chat was in Russia at the time that that information being &#8212; look, all of us use apps like WhatsApp and Signal.&#8221;
Kernen called out Coons for deflecting: &#8220;You&#8217;re running out the clock on Afghanistan.&#8221;
Coons then proceeded to blame President Donald Trump for Biden&#8217;s disaster, even though he admitted that actions that were taken under Biden&#8217;s leadership were &#8220;badly handled.&#8221;
When asked if he should have called for Austin to resign over the debacle, Coons responded: &#8220;I don&#8217;t know whether Lloyd Austin is the person who should have been held accountable for it, but there should have been accountability.&#8221;

Liberal comedian Bill Maher said this week that he has accepted an invitation from President Donald Trump to have a private dinner at the White House because he believes it could help heal political divisions in the country.
Maher made the remarks during an interview with NewsNation host Chris Cuomo when asked about the response he has gotten since accepting the invite.
&#8220;Maybe this is a beginning to heal America,&#8221; Maher said. &#8220;Now, I don’t have some sort of complex where I think I can heal America. I can’t. Okay, let’s get that clear. I’m not going to be healing America. But if two guys who’ve been at each other for so long — I mean, it’s kind of a Nixon to China thing.&#8221;
&#8220;I have the credentials,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;There was nobody who was harder on Trump or more prescient about the fact that he wasn’t going to leave office voluntarily than I was. I feel like I have the credentials. But they also respect me because I’m honest about the woke train to crazy town. And I don’t shrink from that. And I’ve also lost a lot of fans for that. The woke people have left the building and I’m willing to make that sacrifice, but it does give you a certain credibility.&#8221;

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that he believes that President Donald Trump is very serious about expanding America&#8217;s territorial boundaries by acquiring Greenland.
Putin made the remarks during the 6th International Arctic Forum in Murmansk where he bemoaned Western nations increasingly competing in the Arctic region.
&#8220;The role and importance of the Arctic for Russia and for the entire world are obviously growing,&#8221; Putin said. &#8220;Regrettably, the geopolitical competition and fighting for positions in this region are also escalating.&#8221;
&#8220;Suffice it to say about the plans of the United States to annex Greenland, as everyone is aware,&#8221; he said. &#8220;But you know, it can surprise someone only at first glance. It is a profound mistake to treat it as some preposterous talk by the new U.S. administration. Nothing of the sort.&#8221;
Putin noted that the idea has been talked about in the United States dating back well over a hundred years.
&#8220;In short, the United States has serious plans regarding Greenland,&#8221; he said. &#8220;These plans have long historical roots, as I have just mentioned, and it is obvious that the United States will continue to consistently advance its geo-strategic, military-political and economic interests in the Arctic.&#8221;

Secretary of State Marco Rubio weighed in Thursday on a Turkish visa student who was arrested by federal immigration authorities this week, which went viral after it was captured by a nearby surveillance camera.
Rubio made the remarks during a joint press conference in Georgetown, Guyana, with Guyanese President Irfaan Ali.
&#8220;We revoked her visa. It’s an F1 visa,&#8221; he said. &#8220;We revoked it, and here’s why – and I’ll say it again; I’ve said it everywhere. Let me be abundantly clear. If you go apply for a visa right now anywhere in the world – let me just send this message out – if you apply for a visa to enter the United States and be a student and you tell us that the reason why you’re coming to the United States is not just because you want to write op-eds, but because you want to participate in movements that are involved in doing things like vandalizing universities, harassing students, taking over buildings, creating a ruckus, we’re not going to give you a visa.&#8221;
&#8220;If you lie to us and get a visa and then enter the United States and with that visa, participate in that sort of activity, we’re going to take away your visa,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;Now, once you’ve lost your visa, you’re no longer legally in the United States, and we have a right, like every country in the world has a right, to remove you from our country. So it’s just that simple.&#8221;
Rubio said that it was &#8220;crazy&#8221; and &#8220;stupid&#8221; for any country to let people come in as visitors and cause disturbances at their universities.
&#8220;And if we’ve given you a visa and then you decide to do that, we’re going to take it away,&#8221; he said. &#8220;I encourage every country to do that, by the way, because I think it’s crazy to invite students into your country that are coming onto your campus and destabilizing it. We’re just not going to have it. So we’ll revoke your visa; and once your visa is revoked, you’re illegally in the country and you have to leave. Every country in the world has a right to decide who comes in as a visitor and who doesn’t.&#8221;
&#8220;If you invite me into your home because you say, &#8216;I want to come to your house for dinner,&#8217; and I go to your house and I start putting mud on your couch and spray-painting your kitchen, I bet you you’re going to kick me out,&#8221; he concluded. &#8220;Well, we’re going to do the same thing if you come into the United States as a visitor and create a ruckus for us. We don’t want it. We don’t want it in our country. Go back and do it in your country, but you’re not going to do it in our country.&#8221;

Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Wednesday while answering questions from reporters that he expects there will be changes moving forward after a Signal chat group of top Trump administration officials leaked because a journalist was accidentally added to the group.
Rubio made the remarks alongside Jamaica&#8217;s Prime Minister Andrew Holness during a joint press conference as he visited the island nation.
&#8220;This thing was set up for purposes of coordinating how everyone was going to call,&#8221; Rubio said. &#8220;When these things happen, I need to call foreign ministers, especially of our close allies. We need to notify members of Congress. Other members of the team have different people they need to notify as well. And that was the purpose of why it was set up.&#8221;
&#8220;Obviously, someone made a mistake,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;Someone made a big mistake and added a journalist, nothing against journalists, but you ain&#8217;t supposed to be on that thing. So they got on there and this happened.&#8221;
He said that all he did in the group was identify his point of contact like he was asked and later congratulated the team on its success.
&#8220;I&#8217;ve been assured by the Pentagon and everyone involved that none of the information that was on there, though not intended to be divulged — obviously that was a mistake and that shouldn&#8217;t have happened and the White House is looking at it — but that none of the information on there at any point threatened the operation or the lives of our servicemen,&#8221; he said. &#8220;And in fact, it was a very successful operation, and it&#8217;s an ongoing operation, but that was the intent behind it.&#8221;
Rubio backed up Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth&#8217;s assertion that there were &#8220;no war plans on there.&#8221;
&#8220;This was a sort of description of what we could inform our counterparts around the world when the time came to do so,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Again, I think the White House is looking at this entire thing. How did that journalist get on there? Why was this the appropriate I think there&#8217;ll be reforms and changes made. So this never this was not going to happen again. It can&#8217;t. But I wanted everybody to understand why this thing was even set up in the first place, and also understand very clearly the mission was successful and at no point was it endangered.&#8221;

Texas Governor Greg Abbott slammed Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) this week after the inflammatory 43-year-old lawmaker mocked him over being wheelchair-bound.
Abbott made the remarks during an interview with Fox News&#8217; Sean Hannity on Tuesday night after Crockett referred to Abbott as &#8220;Governor Hot Wheels.&#8221;
&#8220;It&#8217;s another day and another disaster by the Democrats,&#8221; Abbott said. &#8220;The reality is they have no vision, no policy. They have nothing to sell but hate, and Americans are not buying it.&#8221;
&#8220;It&#8217;s one reason why Texas is going to remain red and why Republicans are going to continue to win elections across the country,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;The fact is that Texas is actually in direct contrast to what she was talking about. Texas has ranked number one for the most new jobs in America over the past month, number one for the most new jobs over the past year.&#8221;
He said that CEOs have consistently ranked his state as the top state in the country for running businesses.
&#8220;With comments like this by Democrats, we will just leave them in the dust in future elections,&#8221; he added.
