Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) announced on Wednesday that she will be switching districts for her bid to seek re-election to Congress in 2024.

Instead of running to represent Colorado‘s largely western 3rd Congressional District, where she has served since 2021, Boebert will compete in the state’s eastern 4th district where Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO) has opted not to campaign next year for another term.

“I wanted to let you, my constituents and supporters, hear directly from me about my plans for the 2024 election cycle and the importance of maintaining a conservative voice for Colorado in Congress as well as keeping our Republican House majority,” Boebert said in a post to X, along with a video announcement.

“I cannot put into words how grateful I am for everyone who has steadfastly stood alongside me over the past year and beyond,” she added. “I am going to do everything in my power to represent the 3rd District well for the remainder of this term as I work to earn the trust of grassroots conservative voters in the 4th District to represent them in 2025.”

Boebert eked out a victory in a tight race in 2022 against her Democratic rival, Adam Frisch, by 546 votes. Frisch is running again next year and a poll conducted in August on his campaign’s behalf showed the Democrat with a 2-point advantage over Boebert. Boebert was also facing a primary challenge from Jeff Hurd in the 3rd district.

In September, Boebert faced controversy after she got thrown out of a “Beetlejuice” musical performance in Denver for disruptive behavior while on a date. Boebert issued an apology for her actions while going through a “challenging” time amid a “public and difficult divorce.”

October brought reports saying Frisch raised about $3.4 million in the third quarter, dwarfing the roughly $854,000 attained by Boebert. President Joe Biden traveled to Boebert’s district in November during a visit in which he dubbed the congresswoman one of the leaders of former President Donald Trump’s “extreme MAGA movement” and criticized Boebert for opposing his agenda.

While Boebert jumps to a new district — with a slew of rival candidates already in the race — one prognosticator said the swap improved the odds of the GOP winning the district she is leaving.

“This is good news for Republicans’ chances of holding onto #CO03, as Boebert was the main reason it was in so much jeopardy. Will move from Toss Up to Lean R at” Cook Political Report, the newsletter’s Dave Wasserman said in a post to X.

Boebert said in her announcement video that her decision “means not allowing Hollywood elites and progressive money groups to buy the 3rd District.” She added, “I will not allow dark money that is directed at destroying me personally to steal this seat.”
