Sen. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/richard-blumenthal" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Richard Blumenthal</a> (D-CT), a fierce opponent of former President Donald Trump, said on Thursday that Americans will be stunned by shocking failures that Senate investigators have uncovered about the Secret Service&#8217;s failure to protect Trump on July 13, 2024, when a would-be assassin nearly killed him at a political rally in Pennsylvania.
Blumenthal made the remarks while talking to reporters after Acting U.S. Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe gave members new information during a closed-door meeting about the investigation into the assassination attempt.
&#8220;I think the American people are going to be shocked, astonished, and appalled by what we will report to them about the failures by the Secret Service in this assassination attempt on the former president,&#8221; Blumenthal said. &#8220;But I think they also ought to be appalled and astonished by the failure of the Department of Homeland Security to be more forthcoming, to be as candid and frank as it should be to them in terms of providing information.&#8221;
He said that investigators are pressing DHS to give them the full truth and to turn over all the documents that they have related to the matter.

Blumenthal said that he would not disclose what new information he had learned, but noted that it would &#8220;shock the American people&#8221; about the &#8220;lapses and lags in the protection that was afforded that day and the breakdown in communication.&#8221;

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said during a post-debate analysis this week that the key takeaway he walked away from the debate with was that Vice President Kamala Harris was unable to defend her record in the Biden-Harris administration.
Cruz made the remarks during an episode of his &#8220;Verdict&#8221; podcast with co-host Ben Ferguson while breaking down how President Donald Trump and Harris each performed during Tuesday&#8217;s ABC News debate.

Cruz noted that Harris avoided answering questions posed to her by Democrat-friendly moderators David Muir and Linsey Davis, including whether or not people were better off today or under the Trump administration.
&#8220;Kamala refused to answer it at all,&#8221; he said. &#8220;She didn&#8217;t say yes. She didn&#8217;t say people&#8217;s lives are better. She said nothing at all.&#8221;
&#8220;If I were to predict, we&#8217;re not going to see Kamala emerge from the basement until Election Day,&#8221; Cruz added. &#8220;It&#8217;s like the groundhog until she sees her shadow on election day, she doesn&#8217;t get to come out of the basement.”
He said that Harris might be able to get away with not having to campaign because the media is so desperate for her to win that &#8220;they were going to say that whatever happened — she could literally fall to the ground and start screaming and wailing and kicking her feet in the air — and they would say she won.&#8221;
&#8220;So that that was going to be the narrative regardless, I will say what we learned is she doesn&#8217;t have a good answer to her own record,&#8221; he concluded.

In their statement this week, the congressional Democrats pressed the Army to &#8220;immediately provide information regarding how the event was coordinated&#8221; and insisted that the alleged assault &#8220;requires a strong official response.&#8221;
&#8220;As with any alleged assault, this incident should be investigated by the appropriate law enforcement authorities and should be subject to an independent charging decision,&#8221; the Democrats said, adding the Army should cooperate fully.

Several Republicans in the House have signaled dismay with the GOP plan, with some being turned off by the idea of stop-gap spending bill, defense hawks fretting a &#8220;negative impact&#8221; on the Pentagon, and others not liking the idea of the SAVE Act being included, <a href="https://www.politico.com/live-updates/2024/09/09/congress/bad-signs-for-johnsons-spending-plan-00178101" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according to POLITICO</a>. A shorter continuing resolution without the SAVE Act might have better odds. Axios <a href="https://www.axios.com/2024/09/08/spending-bill-congress-white-house?utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_campaign=editorial" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> Democrats and the White House prefer a three-month spending measure, which would lead to a December lame-duck session on government funding. The head of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), who publicly praised Hamas’ October 7 attack on Israel, outlined a plan to help elect 40-50 members to Congress in a sermon last month, <a href="https://www.memri.org/tv/cair-exec-director-nihad-awad-working-eliminate-change-public-school-textbooks-defame-islam-prophet">MEMRI reported</a>.
CAIR Executive Director Nihad Awad said his vision is the “next phase” in dedicating “professional resources to inform the public systematically about this faith,” adding that he recommends a “scientific approach.”
“If we commit to do this, four years from now, the Muslim community will have 4,000 new journalists, we will have 4,000 filmmakers, 4,000 lawyers, 4,000 students of political science, 4,000 students of history,” he said.
In 15 years, Awad said the numbers will continue to grow, creating “an army” of 50,000 in such fields, many of whom will “most likely” run for office.
“We can have in ten years, at least 40-50 members of Congress — in the U.S. Congress,” he said.
In the August 30th sermon at the East Plano Islamic Center in Texas, Awad said CAIR has been fighting to eliminate Islamophobia that is “deeply rooted” in American culture, academia, and Hollywood. “For hundreds of years, Islam has been denigrated, the Prophet has been smeared and defamed in books and textbooks that were taught in public schools, that Allah be praised, we have been working to eliminate and change,” Awad said in the sermon live-streamed on YouTube.
Awad said it&#8217;s time for the Muslim community — which he called affluent, vibrant, educated, and well-to-do — to move to the next phase.
While CAIR, founded in 1994, positions itself as the top American Muslim civil rights organization, it has a troubling record that led the Biden administration to distance itself in the fallout of Hamas’ brutal massacre, rape, and kidnapping of Israeli civilians on October 7.
The White House <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/white-house-scrambles-to-distance-itself-from-cair-after-shocking-anti-semitic-statements">distanced itself</a> from CAIR in December after Awad said he was “happy to see” Gazans “breaking the siege and throwing down the shackles of their own land” on October 7, the day Hamas massacred over a thousand Israeli civilians. He added that Israel does not have the right to self-defense.
The White House condemned Awad’s remarks and <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2023/12/08/us/politics/white-house-cair-nihad-awad.html">removed</a> CAIR as a partner from a White House fact sheet for its National Strategy to Counter Anti-Semitism.
On October 7, as Hamas was actively ravaging communities in southern Israel, CAIR’s official <a href="https://x.com/CAIRNational/status/1710758201358966893">account tweeted</a> its “support for the Palestinian people’s right to freedom and calling for an end to the Israeli occupation.” 
The tweet went on to blame Israel for Hamas’ attack, claiming the Jewish state “sparks the deadly violence that we see again and again, including today.”
It concluded its thread by calling on the United States, and Arab and Muslim governments to “exert maximum pressure on the Israeli government” to “respect Palestinian human rights and end the occupation,” despite the attackers coming from Gaza which Israel withdrew from in 2005.
Awad and other CAIR leaders are known for making similar anti-Semitic remarks, according to the <a href="https://www.adl.org/resources/backgrounder/council-american-islamic-relations-cair">Anti-Defamation League</a>.
Awad has labeled Zionist organizations “enemies of the Muslim community,” claimed they “make up the core of the Islamophobia network in the United States,” and accused pro-Israel groups of having “corrupted” the U.S. government.
Following an attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump, Awad shared an article about the Secret Service receiving intel on Iranian threats against Trump, speculating whether it was an “Israeli plot to ignite another war between the U.S. and other countries in the Middle East at its behest.”
In July, a man with close ties to Iran was arrested for attempting to hire hitmen to assassinate high-profile politicians, with former President Donald Trump’s name being floated as one of the targets, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-admin-refused-to-grant-nikki-haley-secret-service-protection-despite-iranian-threats">according to government records</a>.
CAIR’s San Francisco Bay Area Executive Director, Zahra Billoo, once declared that “Zionists” are “your enemies,” warning followers to “pay attention” to “Zionist synagogues,” Hillels, and Jewish federations. Following the October 7 attack, Billoo further claimed the violence was the world “witnessing decolonization.”
Hussam Ayloush, CEO and Executive Director of CAIR Greater Los Angeles Area also has an anti-Israel history, including stating Israel does not have a right to defend itself, and <a href="https://www.memri.org/reports/cair-la-director-hussam-ayloush-november-2023-islamic-society-orange-county-event-israel">asserting</a> that “Israel should be attacked.”
Similarly, on October 7 and 9, Zainab Chaudry, Director of Maryland Outreach, CAIR Maryland <a href="https://www.adl.org/resources/backgrounder/council-american-islamic-relations-cair">referred</a> to the Hamas attack as an “uprising” against “colonizers” and called Hamas terrorists “Palestinian freedom fighters.” In November, Abdullah Jaber, Executive Director, CAIR Florida, stated that Israeli Jews are not followers of “Abraham, Moses, or Jesus.”
During Awad’s sermon, he also said that the anti-Israel “uncommitted movement” had “changed the tone” of Vice President Kamala Harris on Israel through uncommitted delegates pressuring Democratic leaders during the Democratic National Convention.

The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) released a <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/H.R.-9494%E2%80%94-Continuing-Appropriations-and-Other-Matters-Act-2025-Final.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a> that said the Biden administration &#8220;strongly opposes&#8221; the passage of H.R.9494, which would provide funding for the federal government for six months — through March 28 — in addition to instituting the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility <a href="https://www.congress.gov/bill/118th-congress/house-bill/8281" target="_blank" rel="noopener">(SAVE) Act</a>.
&#8220;Instead of working in a bipartisan manner to keep the Government open and provide emergency funding for disaster needs, House Republicans have chosen brinkmanship,&#8221; the OMB said in its statement of policy, adding later, &#8220;If the President were presented with H.R. 9494, he would veto it.&#8221;
The SAVE Act, which <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nearly-all-house-dems-vote-against-bill-requiring-voters-prove-citizenship" target="_blank" rel="noopener">passed</a> the House as a standalone bill in July with some bipartisan support but never got taken up by the Democrat-controlled Senate, aims to require that individuals show proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote in elections for federal office and pushes states to remove non-citizens from voter rolls.
Proponents of the SAVE Act argue the bill is necessary to shore up the security of the voting process. In vouching for the legislation, House Speaker <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/mike-johnson" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mike Johnson</a> (R-LA) <a href="https://mikejohnson.house.gov/uploadedfiles/save_act_white_paper.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">released</a> a white paper that warned of a National Voter Registration Act “loophole” in which states do not ask for proof of citizenship when registering an individual to vote in federal elections and cited evidence of noncitizens appearing on voter rolls in places such as Massachusetts, Ohio, and Virginia.
&#8220;There is a danger that the NVRA loophole, combined with the Biden Administration’s willful disregard of U.S. immigration law that has allowed the U.S. foreign-born population to grow by 5.1 million people in the last two years alone and by 6.6 million since President Biden took office, could lead to millions of noncitizens registering to vote,&#8221; the paper said. &#8220;Should this happen, it would jeopardize the integrity of our elections, turning the outcome of the 2024 election over to foreign persons and potentially even foreign interests.&#8221;
The OMB&#8217;s policy statement claimed the SAVE Act is &#8220;unnecessary&#8221; because it is already a federal crime for noncitizens to vote in federal elections and states already have &#8220;effective safeguards&#8221; in place. Further, the bill would make it &#8220;much harder for all eligible Americans to register to vote and increase the risk that eligible voters are purged from voter rolls,&#8221; the statement added.

There also seems to be disagreement over how far a continuing resolution should go. Axios <a href="https://www.axios.com/2024/09/08/spending-bill-congress-white-house?utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_campaign=editorial" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> Democrats and the White House prefer a three-month spending measure, which would lead to a December lame-duck session on government funding — once it is clear which party won the presidential election and control of the two chambers of Congress in 2025.
The OMB statement criticized the six-month continuing resolution on a number of fronts, saying it would be particularly &#8220;irresponsible&#8221; in regard to national security because it would &#8220;would erode our military advantage relative to the People’s Republic of China, degrade readiness, and fail to provide the support our troops deserve.&#8221; It also said a &#8220;CR ending March 28th also takes the Congress dangerously close to the deadline when across-the-board cuts would come into place next year, as dictated by the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2023.&#8221;
Fox News <a href="https://x.com/ChadPergram/status/1833225328774295567" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> on Monday that Johnson said he believes the House can pass a continuing resolution with the provision of requiring proof of citizenship. In a post to X, senior congressional correspondent Chad Pergram <a href="https://x.com/ChadPergram/status/1833225328774295567" target="_blank" rel="noopener">noted</a> that he asked the speaker what his fallback position was, to which Johnson replied, &#8220;There is no fallback position. This is a righteous fight.&#8221;

In a <a href="https://x.com/JakeSherman/status/1832890403647086850" target="_blank" rel="noopener">letter</a> to colleagues, Schumer previewed what the Senate will be working on over the next few weeks now that lawmakers are returning to Washington, D.C., following the summer recess, and warned that a government shutdown could happen this fall without Congress reaching a deal for an extension to fund the various federal agencies by the end of September.
&#8220;We all know what is at stake: crucial funding for health care, infrastructure, education, food safety, veterans, border security, U.S. competitiveness and more,&#8221; Schumer said, adding that Democrats &#8220;support&#8221; a continuing resolution to keep the government open as long as it does not include any partisan add-ons.
&#8220;As I have said before, the only way to get things done is in a bipartisan way,&#8221; Schumer said. &#8220;Despite Republican bluster, that is how we’ve handled every funding bill in the past, and this time should be no exception. We will not let poison pills or Republican extremism put funding for critical programs at risk.&#8221;

While at least <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/4862402-speaker-johnson-cr-government-shutdown/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a couple</a> House Republicans indicated they oppose the latest GOP gambit, Speaker <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/mike-johnson" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mike Johnson</a> (R-LA) — who <a href="https://mikejohnson.house.gov/uploadedfiles/save_act_white_paper.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">released</a> a document earlier this year that warned of a National Voter Registration Act “loophole” and cited evidence of noncitizens on voter rolls in various states — said the combination of the continuing resolution and the SAVE Act &#8220;has a lot of merit,&#8221; <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/4862402-speaker-johnson-cr-government-shutdown/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a source told The Hill</a>.
Schumer <a href="https://www.appropriations.senate.gov/news/majority/schumer-and-murray-joint-statement-on-house-republican-funding-proposal" target="_blank" rel="noopener">released</a> a joint statement with Senate Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Patty Murray (D-WA) in response to the proposal, declaring, &#8220;As we have said repeatedly, avoiding a government shutdown requires bipartisanship, not a bill drawn up by one party. &#8230; If Speaker Johnson drives House Republicans down this highly partisan path, the odds of a shutdown go way up.&#8221;
The lower chamber already <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nearly-all-house-dems-vote-against-bill-requiring-voters-prove-citizenship" target="_blank" rel="noopener">passed</a> the SAVE Act as a standalone bill in July with some bipartisan support. However, the Democrat-controlled Senate has refused to take it up for consideration and the Biden administration signaled its opposition to the election integrity bill. Some critics have <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-formally-opposes-bill-requiring-voters-prove-citizenship" target="_blank" rel="noopener">argued that</a> the legislation is unnecessary and would create an undue burden on legitimate voters.

This is insane, a threat to democracy and must be fixed by passing the SAVE Act.&#8221;
Axios <a href="https://www.axios.com/2024/09/08/spending-bill-congress-white-house?utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_campaign=editorial" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> on Sunday that Democrats in Congress and the White House are pushing for a short-term spending measure through mid-December — three months shorter than the House version — to avoid giving Vice President Kamala Harris a &#8220;tight deadline&#8221; to get the government funded in the first couple months of her first term if she wins the presidential election.
House conservatives, who <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/house-passes-another-short-term-spending-bill-rejecting-conservative-bid-for-border-attachment" target="_blank" rel="noopener">failed to get</a> border reforms linked to a short-term spending bill earlier this year, have <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/freedom-caucus-unveils-plan-to-protect-trump-from-lame-duck-omnibus-shore-up-election-integrity" target="_blank" rel="noopener">insisted</a> any new continuing resolution should extend into early next year to &#8220;ensure Democrats cannot undermine&#8221; a prospective second term for former President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/donald-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Donald Trump</a> with a December omnibus. And they said they wanted the SAVE Act attached to it.

During an interview on NBC, &#8220;Meet The Press&#8221; moderator Kristen Welker asked Warnock whether there was a &#8220;specific law&#8221; that he thought could have prevented the shooting that <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/father-of-suspected-georgia-school-shooter-charged-with-murder" target="_blank" rel="noopener">killed four people</a> given how the father of suspected 14-year-old shooter <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2024/09/05/us/winder-georgia-shooting-apalachee-high-school/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reportedly told</a> investigators he gave the AR-15-style rifle used in the attack to his son as a holiday gift last year. Both the alleged gunman and his father have since been <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/father-of-suspected-georgia-school-shooter-charged-with-murder" target="_blank" rel="noopener">arrested and charged</a>.

Eighty-seven percent of Americans (Democrats and Republicans, according to the Fox News report last year), believe that we ought to have universal background checks and still we can&#8217;t even get that done in Congress,&#8221; Warnock said.
&#8220;Listen, there is no one single law that will stop all of these tragedies. In a sense, I think we have to broaden the scope of the question because after all we have two mass shootings a day in our country, based on the data just last year. And this does not happen everywhere in the world,&#8221; he added before chiding politicians who are &#8220;beholden to the gun lobby&#8221; and lamenting how &#8220;we&#8217;re all sitting ducks&#8221; when it comes to school shootings.
Welker also repeatedly pressed Warnock on whether he thinks Vice President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/kamala-harris" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kamala Harris</a>, who is running for the presidency atop the Democratic Party&#8217;s ticket, should support a mandatory gun buy-back program for so-called &#8220;assault weapons&#8221; like Harris <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/video/6360516566112" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> she would in 2019 during her first White House campaign. The moderator noted how Harris&#8217; campaign told her overnight that Harris will &#8220;not push for mandatory buy-backs but has expressed support for an assault weapons ban, expanded background checks, red flag laws.&#8221;
In his first response, Warnock said, &#8220;We&#8217;re not going to be able to get where we need to go without action in Congress.&#8221; The senator said he was &#8220;heartened&#8221; by the enactment two years ago of the &#8220;Bipartisan Safer Communities Act,&#8221; which The Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-signs-most-expansive-gun-control-bill-in-decades-into-law-following-republican-support" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> as the most expansive gun control law in decades that gave financial grants to states for “red-flag” laws and increased background check stipulations for 18 to 21-year-olds.
&#8220;It was the first gun safety law we passed in 30 years. Thirty years. And it was modest, but it did save lives. But clearly (in the wake of what happened just the other day in Winder, Georgia), it&#8217;s not enough. And the least we can do is move forward on the bipartisan spaces where ordinary people agree,&#8221; Warnock said. &#8220;Clearly, there&#8217;s a disconnect between what the people, the American people want, and what they&#8217;re able to get out of their government. Again, 87% of Americans believe in background checks, and yet I hear politicians say that it&#8217;s not guns who kill people, it&#8217;s people who kill people. And yet we don&#8217;t even want to know who those people are. We won&#8217;t even support common sense gun reform.&#8221;
Asked again about whether Harris should support a mandatory gun buy-back program, Warnock said,  &#8220;As a pastor I&#8217;ve done buy-back programs. You can pick this issue or that issue. But I think that, again, there&#8217;s not one single thing that will make all of this go away.&#8221;

At issue is how the Minnesota-based nonprofit Feeding Our Future (FOF) was <a href="https://www.justice.gov/usao-mn/pr/five-defendants-found-guilty-their-roles-250-million-fraud-scheme" target="_blank" rel="noopener">implicated</a> in what the Department of Justice (DOJ) described as a $250 million fraud scheme that &#8220;exploited&#8221; an operation meant to feed hungry kids in need during the COVID pandemic.

&#8220;As the chief executive and the highest ranking official in the state of Minnesota, you are responsible for the MDE and its administration of FCNPs,&#8221; Chairwoman Virginia Foxx (R-NC) wrote in a cover letter to Walz.
&#8220;Statements in the press by you and your representatives indicate that you and other executive officers were involved, or had knowledge of, MDE’s administration of the FCNP and responsibilities and actions regarding the massive fraud,&#8221; she added.
The committee also sent subpoenas for documents to MDE Commissioner Willie Jett, Agriculture Secretary Thomas Vilsack, and Agriculture Department Inspector General Phyllis Fong. Walz and the others received a September 18 deadline.

In 2022, federal prosecutors announced charges against dozens of defendants linked to FOF in what the DOJ described at the time as being &#8220;the largest COVID-19 fraud scheme in the nation.&#8221;
In June of this year, U.S. Attorney Andrew Lugar <a href="https://www.justice.gov/usao-mn/pr/five-defendants-found-guilty-their-roles-250-million-fraud-scheme" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> that five defendants had been convicted by a federal jury, and a total of 23 individuals had been &#8220;held accountable&#8221; for their roles in the $250 million fraud scheme.
Foxx&#8217;s letter to Walz noted that the governor, when asked about not holding agencies accountable and whether MDE employees would be disciplined, <a href="https://www.startribune.com/we-can-always-do-better-gov-tim-walz-says-of-education-department-after-report-criticizes-oversight-of-feeding-our-future/600374449" target="_blank" rel="noopener">replied</a>, &#8220;This wasn’t malfeasance.&#8221;
Walz also stated, &#8220;There’s not a single state employee that was implicated in doing anything that was illegal. They simply didn’t do as much due diligence as they should’ve.&#8221;
The Office of the Legislative Auditor in Minnesota <a href="https://www.auditor.leg.state.mn.us/sreview/pdf/2024-mdefof.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">released</a> a report this summer that said MDE&#8217;s oversight of FOF had been &#8220;inadequate&#8221; and listed ways in which it &#8220;created opportunities for fraud.&#8221;
A spokesperson for Walz told <a href="https://www.axios.com/local/twin-cities/2024/06/14/feeding-our-future-fraud-minnesota-department-education-audit" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Axios</a> his administration &#8220;made many of the corrective actions suggested by the OLA [Office of the Legislative Auditor] and taken &#8216;strong steps to find and eliminate any remaining vulnerabilities in government programs.'&#8221;

Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) claimed in an <a href="https://x.com/HawleyMO/status/1831136050204623349">X post</a> on Tuesday that Homeland Security personnel had been &#8220;thrown onto Trump’s protective detail with nothing more than a 2hr online training&#8221; at the July 13 campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where a 20-year-old man attempted to assassinate the former president.
During a Fox News interview, Hawley <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/09/04/us-news/most-agents-guarding-trump-during-assassination-attempt-at-were-homeland-security-personnel-who-took-two-hour-online-webinar-sen-hawley/">said</a>, &#8220;Think about this: This former president of the US&#8230;is sent out on stage, most of the people there are not trained, they&#8217;re not qualified. Hawley sent a letter to Acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe on Tuesday detailing new claims about Homeland Security Investigation (HSI) agents that partner with the Secret Service. He said the recent allegations &#8220;suggest that a significant number of personnel tasked with providing security for former President Trump at the July 13 rally were egregiously under-prepared by the Secret Service to carry out this mission.&#8221;
“When Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents partner with the Secret Service, they should be properly trained. New whistleblower allegations contend that this isn’t happening&#8230;,” Hawley wrote.

The Missouri Republican added that a whistleblower told him &#8220;that the only training received by many HSI agents reassigned to work protective details is a two-hour webinar on Microsoft Teams featuring pre-recorded videos.&#8221;  
“Imagine 1,000 people logging onto Microsoft Teams at the same time after being informed at the last minute that everyone needed to login individually,” a whistleblower said, according to Hawley. “Once it got rolling, the Secret Service instructor couldn’t figure out how to get the audio working on the prerecorded videos (which I’m told are the same videos as last year). All told, they restarted the videos approximately six times &#8230;. The content was not helpful.”

Hawley added in his letter that &#8220;these latest whistleblower allegations contend HSI agents were pulled off child exploitation cases in order to serve on protective details for which they were unprepared.&#8221;

Since Trump was shot in the ear by 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks at the July 13 rally, the whistleblower told Hawley that there have been no security training improvements. 
“Nothing new, nothing improved since the assassination attempt on former President Trump,” the whistleblower said. 
Hawley asked Rowe to provide details on how many HSI agents were present at the July 13 rally, how many were only trained through the webinar, and to provide specific curriculum and training materials. Lawmakers continue to investigate the Secret Service’s handling of the Butler rally as questions remain about what caused the massive security failures.

House Oversight Committee Democrats <a href="https://oversightdemocrats.house.gov/news/press-releases/oversight-democrats-launch-investigation-allegations-trump-doj-covered-10" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> this week that they were looking into whether the Department of Justice (DOJ) improperly shut down in 2020 an inquiry into a potential $10 million bribe to Trump from Egyptian President Abdel Fatah El-Sisi in the run-up to the 2016 election, citing concerns about a report on the matter that The Washington Post published roughly one month ago.
Stephen Cheung, a spokesman for Trump&#8217;s campaign, delivered a defiant response <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2024/09/03/trump-egypt-democrats-letter.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">when CNBC asked</a> for comment <a href="https://oversightdemocrats.house.gov/sites/evo-subsites/democrats-oversight.house.gov/files/evo-media-document/2024-09-03.JBR%20to%20DJTrump%20re.%20Egypt.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">on a letter</a> dated Tuesday in which House Democrats asked Trump to provide answers to a number of questions about whether the former president accepted any payments from Egypt&#8217;s government.
&#8220;This is textbook Fake News,&#8221; Cheung said, repeating a statement he initially gave in response to the Washington Post report. &#8220;The investigation referenced found no wrongdoing and was closed. None of the allegations or insinuations being reported on have any basis in fact,&#8221; he added. &#8220;The media is consistently played for suckers by Deep State Trump-haters and bad faith actors peddling hoaxes and shams.&#8221;
The Washington Post <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/investigations/2024/08/02/trump-campaign-egypt-investigation/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">article</a> claimed that top DOJ officials blocked FBI agents from obtaining records for an inquiry into whether a $10 million bribe from <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/egypt" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Egypt</a> happened and factored into Trump&#8217;s decision to infuse his campaign with a similar amount of money. The report said Michael Sherwin, the acting U.S. attorney who closed the case in 2020, insisted he closed down the probe because of a lack of evidence.

The article noted former FBI Director <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/robert-mueller" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Robert Mueller</a>, who led the Trump-Russia investigation as special counsel, had also spearheaded the Egypt assignment until it was taken over by prosecutors in the U.S. attorney&#8217;s office in Washington, D.C. Trump has long disparaged the Russia collusion probe, along with many others, as being part of a &#8220;witch hunt&#8221; to undermine his campaigns and presidency.
House Democrats, who are currently in the minority and lack subpoena power, have pushed for more investigations into Trump while they fought back against GOP-led inquiries into President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/joe-biden" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Joe Biden</a>.
