Joking with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) at the White House on Monday, President Donald Trump was asked whether Cruz belonged on the Supreme Court.
Trump stated, “In fact, somebody said, ‘Would you ever appoint him to the United States Supreme Court, because he’s a brilliant lawyer, Ted?’ I said, “Well, he’s the only one I can think of that&#8217;s gonna get 100 votes. All Republicans will vote for him. All Democrats will vote for him, because they want to get him the hell out of the Senate!’ If I was having a hard time with getting the votes I would appoint Ted Cruz, I’d get 100%. Guaranteed.”
The truth is no laughing matter.
Although Justice Clarence Thomas and Justice Samuel Alito are rock-ribbed originalists and staunchly conservative, Thomas turned 78 in June, and Alito is 76. If Trump wants to preserve the Court&#8217;s conservative stamp, he may need to find replacements for one or both before leaving office. With the GOP holding only 53 Senate seats, the majority could easily evaporate.

Cruz, the first Hispanic senator from Texas, graduated from Princeton University before earning his Juris Doctor from Harvard. After serving as a policy advisor in the George W. Bush administration, he was appointed by then-Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott as the state’s solicitor general, a role he held until 2008. Cruz worked in private practice until winning his Senate seat in 2012, then winning reelection in 2018 and 2024.
During his tenure as Solicitor General, Cruz successfully defended the Ten Commandments placed on the Texas State Capitol grounds and successfully defended Texas against reopening the cases of 51 Mexican nationals who were convicted of murder in the United States.
In September 2020, after President Trump named him to a group of potential Supreme Court nominees, Cruz was <a href="https://www.texastribune.org/2020/09/14/ted-cruz-supreme-court/">asked</a> by Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo, “Do you want the job?”
“I don’t,” Cruz replied. “It is deeply honoring, it’s humbling to be included in the list … but it’s not the desire of my heart. I want to be in the political fight.”
In 2016, he also <a href="https://www.texastribune.org/2016/05/13/cruz-not-interested-us-supreme-court/">dismissed the idea</a>, saying, “That is not a desire of my heart. I am committed to the fight of ensuring we have strong principled constitutionalists on the court, but I believe that I can do a great more good fighting across the political spectrum.”

Isn’t it ironic that the neoconservative advocates of limitless, unchecked presidential war powers are at the same time the most eager voices for circumscribing the president’s power to end a war?
Congress must not obstruct the “unitary” presidential war powers in any way, the neocons say. At the same time, they loudly proclaim that “unitary war-making” power includes initiation or declaration of war and, of course, the commander-in-chief power to dictate the terms of how the war is fought, but by golly, the president should not presume that he has the power to determine how the war will end.
Seems bizarrely upside down when you think about it.
Historically, at least in the first 150 years or so, presidents adhered to the Constitution as the framers had intended. Madison’s admonition that the Executive is the branch most prone to war and therefore the Constitution, with studied care, vested the initiation or declaration of war with the legislature.
Even when self-defense warranted Jefferson&#8217;s protection of our ships from the Barbary Pirates, he took pains to ultimately seek Congress&#8217; permission to launch full-scale offensive operations.
Jefferson understood that Congress determines not only what constitutes a threat to national security but also how to address that threat. Rather than place the question of war and peace within the purview of a single person, the Founders expected Congress to deliberate to ensure that war was in the nation&#8217;s interest. James Wilson articulated this expectation when he declared at the Pennsylvania ratifying convention, “This system will not hurry us into war &#8230; it will not be in the power of a single man, or a single body of men to involve us in such distress, for the important power of declaring war is vested in the legislature at large.”
The neocons, who want nothing more than to hurry us into war, would retort by pointing to the amorphous powers supposedly inherent in the president’s role as commander-in-chief. But those neocons ignore the legislative checks on executive power. In addition to the power of the purse, Congress is given the power to raise and support armies; maintain a navy; regulate the land and naval forces; and organize, arm, and discipline the militia. The commander-in-chief has nothing to command except what Congress provides.
Even after war has begun, Congress has the power to determine the scope of the conflict to meet the threat. During the Quasi-War with France, one of our earliest conflicts after independence, Congress authorized the seizure of certain ships by the U.S. Navy, but President John Adams unilaterally sought to expand those congressional parameters. In the resultant 1804 case of Little v. Barreme, a unanimous Supreme Court found that the president must adhere to congressionally passed laws, even when those laws relate to the direction of battle. More recently, during the Vietnam War, Congress passed an appropriations bill that cut off funds for military operations in Cambodia, effectively denying President Nixon’s expansion of the conflict.
Despite these examples, recent history is replete with presidents ignoring the Constitution, ignoring Congress, and unilaterally committing our troops to war. The Iran War is the most current example.
There are few Republicans willing to challenge the “unitary” all-powerful theory of presidential power when the GOP controls the White House. Our ranks seem to have been greater when President Obama was bombing Libya or Syria, or Biden was bombing various African regimes. Sadly, an originalist view of the Constitution regarding presidential war powers seems to depend upon partisanship.
Curiously, though, many Republicans have found a degree of courage and their voice to publicly criticize President Trump&#8217;s initial peace plan for Iran. Time will tell if the administration is successful.
I’m more interested in whether the Constitution allows the president latitude to negotiate peace. Certainly, there is no such language in the Constitution to limit a president’s prerogatives regarding peace.
Imagine, for example, how peace occurs. One universal aspect of peace is the absence of fighting. Since no one, myself included, argues against the presidential direction of our soldiers in a time of war, a president could simply order the troops to discontinue fighting when he or she determines that the war is over.
The neoconservative critics of President Trump would likely respond that they don’t want to circumscribe his ability to stop fighting; just his ability to put that into an agreement.
Maybe&#8230; but history shows that peace treaties often come long after a war has ended. World War I ended in 1918 without an immediate peace treaty ratified by the Senate. In fact, the Treaty of Versailles was rejected by the Senate. It was the Treaty of Berlin that officially restored peace between the United States and Germany in 1921, three years after the fighting ended.
World War II ended with the surrender of the Axis powers in 1945. But official peace treaties were not ratified with several European Axis countries until 1947, with Japan until 1952, and with Germany until 1990. The sooner we can come to a formal peace agreement with Iran, the safer America will be.
President Trump now seeks a peace settlement that would end immediate hostilities and Iran&#8217;s ability to acquire nuclear weapons. Congress can play a supportive and constructive role in this process. Republicans and Democrats should support President Trump’s efforts to bring peace with Iran.
If the neoconservatives were consistent, they might acknowledge that limitless, unchecked presidential power to initiate war followed by circumscribed presidential power to end war might just lead to the state of perpetual war President Trump campaigned against, again and again.

Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA), who routinely reprimands the rich for &#8220;hoarding wealth,&#8221; is actually filthy rich himself and apparently trying to hide that reality from the public.
Khanna lives in a $6 million D.C. home, complete with a four-story elevator; his wife drives a $190,000 Range Rover, and his young children own three high-end private golf clubs and a significant stake in a $65 billion wealth management firm, according to a bombshell report published by Washington Free Beacon reporter Andrew Kerr.
Between Khanna, his wife, and his two children, his family&#8217;s net worth could exceed a staggering $340 million.
Khanna has inherited much of this wealth through his father-in-law, Monte Ahuja, an Indian-born auto parts magnate, investor, and philanthropist, the report notes.
Mere days ago, Khanna engaged in his typical vilification of the rich, suggesting wealthy people &#8220;hoard&#8221; their money.
&#8220;I want America to be a country where it&#8217;s easier to build wealth than it is to hoard it, and where workers don&#8217;t have to worry about medical debt and grocery costs when they should be enjoying time with their families,&#8221; he posted. &#8220;An economy that works for everyone is possible.&#8221;

What&#8217;s more, Khanna evidently doesn&#8217;t want the public to know how wealthy he actually is. Kerr&#8217;s report not only highlights Khanna&#8217;s massive wealth but also how the Democrat reports his finances, arguing that Khanna&#8217;s filing method makes the disclosures difficult to follow.

Earlier this year, Khanna denounced the &#8220;lack of fairness in America,&#8221; speaking about wealth disparity. He later called wealth disparity and the concentration of billionaire wealth evidence of a &#8220;failed social contract.&#8221;
&#8220;My allegiance is with the working and middle class,&#8221; Khanna <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/features/2026-ro-khanna-weekend-interview/">vowed</a>.
Folks online were quick to react to the report, including a target of Khanna&#8217;s, billionaire Elon Musk.

Others called Khanna a &#8220;fraud&#8221; and linked him to socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), who notably owns three homes while he denounces the rich for not paying their &#8220;fair share.&#8221; It&#8217;s unclear if Sanders or Khanna has ever offered more money to the government than the taxes they owed.

Rep. Tom Kean Jr. (R-NJ) revealed Tuesday that the undisclosed medical condition that kept him away from Congress for nearly four months was depression, ending months of speculation about one of the House GOP&#8217;s most closely watched absences.
Returning to the House floor for the first time since early March, Kean disclosed that he was hospitalized after experiencing health concerns and was ultimately diagnosed with depression, a condition he described as far more debilitating than many people realize.
&#8220;Many people think it is feeling sad. It is so much more than that,&#8221; Kean told colleagues. &#8220;It is physical, it is emotional, and until you experience it yourself, it is difficult to fully understand how powerful this illness can be.&#8221;
The announcement comes after Kean missed more than 100 House votes and largely disappeared from public view, creating headaches for House Republican leadership as Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) attempted to navigate the chamber&#8217;s razor-thin majority.
Kean last cast a vote on March 5 before abruptly stepping away from Congress. His office initially described the situation only as a &#8220;personal medical issue,&#8221; repeatedly declining to elaborate while assuring constituents the congressman expected to make a full recovery.
Earlier this month, Kean&#8217;s political adviser, Harrison Neely, announced the congressman would return to Washington on June 30 and promised he would be &#8220;fully transparent&#8221; about his condition.
On Tuesday, Kean explained that he initially entered the hospital for medical testing before receiving his diagnosis. &#8220;I was given the diagnosis of depression,&#8221; he said. Kean said doctors advised him to remain hospitalized because it offered the quickest path to recovery. &#8220;I was hesitant,&#8221; he said. &#8220;I didn&#8217;t think I had time for it.&#8221;
The second-term Republican acknowledged that when he previously told constituents he expected to return within weeks, he believed that timeline was accurate. &#8220;But as the over 48 million of my fellow Americans being treated for this illness have come to discover, there is no timeline for healing,&#8221; Kean said. &#8220;Today I stand before you healthier, stronger and excited to return to the work that I love.&#8221; Kean characterized himself as &#8220;a private person by nature,&#8221; explaining why he chose not to disclose his diagnosis sooner.
He also encouraged others struggling with mental illness to seek treatment. &#8220;Asking for help is not a weakness,&#8221; he said. &#8220;It is a strength.&#8221; Despite revealing the reason for his prolonged absence, Kean left Capitol Hill immediately after delivering his remarks without answering reporters&#8217; questions, leaving several unresolved what initially prompted his hospitalization.
Speaker Johnson said he had repeatedly encouraged Kean to be more forthcoming with the public during his absence. &#8220;I encouraged him all along to be as transparent as possible,&#8221; Johnson told reporters. &#8220;I&#8217;m glad he finally has.&#8221; Johnson declined to criticize Kean further, saying the decision ultimately rested with the New Jersey congressman. &#8220;It&#8217;s his personal issue,&#8221; the speaker said.
Kean represents New Jersey&#8217;s highly competitive 7th Congressional District, one of the Democrats&#8217; top pickup opportunities heading into November. His absence became an issue in the race as Democrats questioned whether constituents were receiving adequate representation while Kean remained out of public view. Democratic nominee Rebecca Bennett, a former Navy helicopter pilot, is expected to challenge Kean in what is projected to be one of the country&#8217;s most competitive House contests.
Before Tuesday&#8217;s announcement, President Donald Trump and House Republican leaders had continued backing Kean&#8217;s reelection campaign despite his <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/gop-rep-set-to-return-to-congress-after-he-went-mia-for-months">absence</a>. Trump endorsed Kean earlier this month, while Johnson repeatedly defended the congressman&#8217;s right to medical privacy and urged reporters to be patient.
Kean, the son of former New Jersey Gov. Tom Kean Sr., missed more than 100 House votes during his absence, though his office maintained that he continued to perform constituent services and campaign activities remotely.
The congressman&#8217;s remarks drew support from some lawmakers who have publicly discussed their own struggles with mental illness. At the same time, critics argued that while Kean&#8217;s diagnosis deserved empathy, his constituents also deserved greater transparency during an absence that stretched nearly four months.
New York Democratic Rep. Ritchie Torres, who has spoken openly about living with depression, wrote on <a href="https://x.com/RitchieTorres/status/2071993828534346043">X</a> that he had &#8220;deep sympathy for anyone struggling with mental illness,&#8221; but added that &#8220;public office carries a duty of transparency.&#8221;
&#8220;When a public official is absent for an extended period,&#8221; Torres wrote, &#8220;the public has a right to an honest explanation.&#8221;

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin and far-Left Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) exchanged heated words Thursday over immigration policies and child separation.
The DHS chief was on Capitol Hill to testify in front of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security.
During the hearing, DeLauro blew up at Mullin, accusing his agency of separating thousands of children from their parents.

“3,900 children were separated from their families,” DeLauro said. 
“450,000 kids were lost during the Biden administration, and you didn’t say a word about it,” Mullin fired back. 
DeLauro, who represents New Haven, Connecticut, erupted and started wagging her finger at the Homeland Security chief. 
“Mr. Secretary! Do not interrupt,” DeLauro said, raising her voice in front of the cameras.
“Don’t you point your finger at me,” Mullin replied. “Don’t be a hypocrite.” 
“I will point my finger at you,” DeLauro interjected, before asking the chairman to put Mullin “in his place.” 
“You should be as upset about the 450,000 kids that were lost. You didn’t say a word about it. For four years, you never said a word,” Mullin exclaimed. 
“You should be put in your place,” he added. 
The heated confrontation follows a renewed spotlight on President Trump’s immigration and deportation agenda.

In a <a href="https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/25pdf/25-5_86qd.pdf">6-3 ruling</a>, the court held that the Trump administration can move forward with ending Temporary Protected Status for roughly 350,000 Haitian immigrants and 6,000 Syrians currently living in the United States. In a different <a href="https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/25pdf/25-5_86qd.pdf">6-3 ruling</a>, the court upheld the federal government’s authority to turn away asylum seekers at ports of entry through a policy known as “metering,” rejecting arguments that federal law requires officials to process every migrant who arrives at the border seeking asylum.

In a press conference with White House Border Czar Tom Homan, DeSantis said the detention space, which was used to deport roughly 21,000 people, was no longer necessary. 
“I said from the beginning that this was an emergency solution that would be temporary, that once DHS had the wherewithal to be able to handle these illegal aliens, particularly the criminal illegal aliens, that they would be able to do so, and we would still help,” DeSantis said. “In terms of us managing this facility, the minute that’s no longer needed, then we obviously would break down the facility.&#8221;

Socialist candidate Darializa Avila Chevalier is likely to become Congress’ most radical member after she won the Democratic primary in New York&#8217;s 13th congressional district, which has not elected a Republican under its current redistricting lines.  
Chevalier has called to abolish police, disparaged the American flag, and refused to condemn Hamas&#8217; October 7 terrorist attack on Israel. She also does not support any form of deportation — including of illegal immigrants who are convicted of murder, rape, and battery.
“The reason I say that is because we have a criminal system. It is imperfect. But it exists,” she said. “We need to make sure it is one that isn’t also discriminatory on the basis of where people were born, right?” She went further to explain that deporting someone and having them serve time in jail is “double punishment.”

The topic came up as Chevalier was grilled about her controversial X posts. Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-NY), one of Congress&#8217;s most outspoken supporters of Israel, easily defeated a Left-wing primary challenger Tuesday night, surviving an effort by leftist activists to unseat him and drawing an angry response from anti-Israel communist commentator Hasan Piker.
Torres cruised to victory in New York&#8217;s 15th congressional district, defeating former state Assemblyman Michael Blake by a wide margin. With nearly all votes counted, Torres captured roughly 72% of the vote compared to Blake&#8217;s 22%.
The result represents a significant victory for one of the Democratic Party&#8217;s most prominent pro-Israel voices at a time when leftist activists have increasingly targeted lawmakers who support the Jewish state. Among those reacting furiously to the outcome was Left-wing streamer Piker, who has frequently clashed with Torres over Israel, antisemitism, and foreign policy.

Piker continued by warning Torres that he would continue scrutinizing the congressman&#8217;s pro-Israel positions. &#8220;Every day, every time there&#8217;s a decision that you can make where you are pro-Israel, I hope you remember. … You better act right, Ritchie.&#8221;
The remarks highlight a years-long feud between the congressman and one of the internet&#8217;s most influential leftist commentators.
Torres has repeatedly accused Piker of spreading antisemitic rhetoric and promoting anti-American extremism. In 2024, Torres sent a <a href="https://ritchietorres.house.gov/congressman-ritchie-torres-writes-to-executives-at-twitch-and-amazon-hasan-piker-is-dangerous">letter</a> to Twitch and Amazon executives condemning Piker, whom he described as a major source of antisemitic content online.
The congressman&#8217;s letter cited a series of controversial statements from Piker, including comments minimizing the significance of sexual violence committed during Hamas&#8217;s October 7 attack on Israel, remarks sympathetic to Hezbollah, and his infamous claim that &#8220;America deserved 9/11.&#8221;
Torres also accused Piker of platforming extremists and helping fuel the rise of antisemitism on social media.
Despite becoming a frequent target of attacks from his left flank, Torres has continued to carve out a unique position within the Democratic Party. The Bronx congressman formally broke with the Congressional Progressive Caucus in 2024 and has become one of the most forceful Democratic critics of anti-Israel activism.
Blake attempted to capitalize on growing dissatisfaction with Israel among Democratic voters and had previously aligned himself politically with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani during last year&#8217;s mayoral race.
However, Mamdani notably stayed out of the congressional contest, depriving Blake of the endorsement many on the Left of Torres hoped would help unite the anti-Torres vote.
Torres also enjoyed a massive fundraising advantage throughout the campaign. Federal filings showed the congressman raising nearly $6.7 million compared to roughly $412,000 for Blake.
The decisive victory suggests that while socialist and leftist candidates scored several victories elsewhere in New York on Tuesday, efforts to oust Torres failed to gain meaningful traction among Democratic voters in the Bronx.
Instead, voters handed Torres another overwhelming primary victory and rejected one of the highest-profile attempts by the Democratic Party&#8217;s activists to punish a lawmaker for his support of Israel.
For Piker and other anti-Israel activists who have spent years attacking Torres online, Tuesday night&#8217;s results amounted to a clear setback. For Torres, they served as another demonstration that his brand of unapologetic support for Israel remains politically viable even as much of his party continues moving Left on the issue.

Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) has raised $30 million for a financial trading startup that is already valued at $300 million, according to a report, drawing attention to the young entrepreneur&#8217;s rapid rise as his mother remains one of the cryptocurrency industry&#8217;s most influential allies in Washington.
Theodore Gillibrand, who graduated from Stanford University this week, secured the funding round for American Perpetuals Exchange Corporation (APEC), a startup that plans to offer perpetual futures contracts tied to U.S. equities and stock indexes. Venture capital firm Lux Capital reportedly led the investment round, which values the company at $300 million.
The fundraising effort comes as Sen. Gillibrand has spent years positioning herself as a leading Democratic advocate for cryptocurrency and digital asset legislation. She partnered with Sen. Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) on major crypto regulatory proposals and played a key role in advancing the GENIUS Act, which established a federal framework for regulating stablecoins.

While perpetual futures have become popular in cryptocurrency markets, APEC said its platform will focus on U.S. equities and stock indexes rather than digital assets. &#8220;The American Perpetuals Exchange Corporation will be offering perpetual futures on U.S. equities,&#8221; a company spokesperson said. &#8220;There will be no cryptocurrencies on the platform and the platform is not built on blockchain technology.&#8221;
Theodore Gillibrand previously worked as a fellow at crypto-focused venture firm Paradigm and interned at Andreessen Horowitz, one of Silicon Valley&#8217;s most prominent investors and a major player in the cryptocurrency sector.
The size of the fundraising round and the company&#8217;s reported valuation have attracted attention given Gillibrand&#8217;s age and the startup&#8217;s early stage. According to Fortune, the company has not yet launched its trading platform and must still obtain regulatory approval before offering its products to investors.

Jordan, pushing back on claims from Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA) that the hearing was more of a political performance than substance, pointed out that statements from ActBlue&#8217;s former legal counsel had prompted the hearing.
As laid out in a <a href="https://judiciary.house.gov/media/in-the-news/actblue-employees-took-fifth-house-depositions-146-times">press release</a> from the House Judiciary Committee in April, former ActBlue general counsel Darrin Hurwitz, ex-director and associate general counsel Aaron Ting, and former counsel Zain Ahmad all parted ways with ActBlue after warning that unspecified changes to fraud standards could leave the political action committee and fundraising platform open to legal risks.
In the investigation that followed, ActBlue employees invoked their 5th Amendment rights at least 146 times — and Wallace-Jones did the same throughout her hearing on Wednesday, declining to answer questions such as:

Senate Republicans on Thursday defeated a Democratic amendment that would have permanently barred the Justice Department from establishing its proposed $1.776 billion Anti-Weaponization Fund, despite a handful of GOP senators from competitive states breaking ranks to support the measure.
The amendment, sponsored by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/5910245-senate-gop-amendment-anti-weaponization-fund/">failed</a> in a 49-50 vote after nearly three hours of procedural wrangling on the Senate floor. All Democrats voted in favor, while Sens. Susan Collins (R-ME), Dan Sullivan (R-AK), and Jon Husted (R-OH) joined them. 
It would have permanently prohibited any future administration from using the federal Judgment Fund to establish the Anti-Weaponization Fund. 
The vote highlighted growing political tensions surrounding the fund, which Democrats have repeatedly characterized as a &#8220;MAGA slush fund&#8221; and which some Republicans have privately worried could become a liability in the months leading up to the midterm elections.
The three GOP senators who voted with Democrats are all facing competitive re-election campaigns this November. Collins is expected to face one of the toughest races of her career in Maine, while Sullivan and Husted are also preparing for competitive contests in states Democrats hope to contest aggressively.
Democrats argued that verbal assurances from the Trump administration that the fund was dead were insufficient.
&#8220;It’s heinous and it won&#8217;t die until we permanently ban it by law,&#8221; Schumer said on the Senate floor ahead of the vote.
The amendment came despite repeated statements from Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche that the Justice Department has abandoned plans to move forward with the fund. 
&#8220;We are not moving forward with the fund. Period,&#8221; Blanche <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/trump-administration/todd-blanche-doj-anti-weaponization-fund-rcna348154">told lawmakers</a> during congressional testimony this week. 
The Anti-Weaponization Fund was initially proposed in May as a mechanism to compensate Americans who believe they were improperly targeted by government agencies. Supporters argued that victims of politically motivated prosecutions, including some January 6 defendants, pro-life activists, and others who believed they had been unfairly targeted by the federal government, should have an avenue for restitution.
The proposal quickly drew backlash from both Democrats and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/how-the-gop-revolted-against-trumps-anti-weaponization-fund" target="_blank" rel="noopener">several Senate Republicans</a>, who expressed concerns about potential beneficiaries and the program&#8217;s projected cost.
Thursday&#8217;s vote also exposed divisions within the Republican conference. Several senators who opposed Schumer&#8217;s amendment nonetheless pushed for alternative language that would codify Blanche&#8217;s pledge not to pursue the fund.
Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) reportedly threatened to support Schumer&#8217;s amendment unless Republican leadership allowed consideration of a separate proposal prohibiting the fund. Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) similarly argued that formally eliminating the proposal would spare vulnerable Republicans from having to defend it on the campaign trail.
&#8220;Why not use this moment to codify that?&#8221; Tillis <a href="https://www.reuters.com/legal/government/senate-republicans-grapple-with-trumps-anti-weaponization-fund-ice-funding-vote-2026-06-04/">told reporters</a>. &#8220;Otherwise, you&#8217;re exposing every one of our members who are in an election cycle to having to deal with this between today and Election Day.&#8221;
Ultimately, however, most Republicans voted against Schumer&#8217;s amendment, helping preserve the underlying $70 billion reconciliation package, which focuses primarily on immigration enforcement and border security.
The fight over the Anti-Weaponization Fund has become one of several politically charged issues Democrats hope to use to divide Republicans ahead of November. With control of both chambers of Congress at stake, Democrats have sought to force difficult votes on issues ranging from government spending and tariffs to immigration enforcement and Trump&#8217;s legal battles.
For Republicans, the challenge is maintaining unity while defending a narrow Senate majority in what is expected to be a difficult midterm environment. Thursday&#8217;s vote demonstrated that while some vulnerable GOP incumbents are willing to distance themselves from controversial Trump administration proposals, Republican leadership remains determined to avoid handing Democrats procedural victories that could derail the party&#8217;s broader legislative agenda.
And despite Democratic efforts to permanently kill the proposal, the amendment&#8217;s failure means Republicans avoided a headline-grabbing rebuke of the administration — even as the administration itself insists the fund is already dead.

For months, Americans have watched President Donald Trump deliver on the promises that helped fuel his return to the White House. The border is more secure. Tax relief is moving forward. No taxes on tips became reality. Republicans have shown that when they are united, they can govern with speed and purpose.
The chance to shape history is rare. Right now, Congress has that chance — and the clock is ticking.
But one major promise remains unfinished: making America the crypto capital of the world.
The good news is that Congress can finish the job — and deliver the perfect birthday gift to America in the process.
When the Senate Banking Committee <a href="https://www.banking.senate.gov/newsroom/majority/chairman-scott-senate-banking-committee-advance-clarity-act-in-historic-bipartisan-vote">advanced</a> the Clarity Act with bipartisan support, it sent a clear signal that lawmakers understand what is at stake. Even more encouraging, Senator Cynthia Lummis recently <a href="https://www.binance.com/en-TR/square/post/06-04-2026-senator-lummis-expects-clarity-act-passage-by-august-recess-330303642523329">suggested</a> the legislation could reach President Trump&#8217;s desk by July 4. The opportunity is real. The momentum is real. But momentum means nothing if Congress allows delay to become defeat.
The forces opposing this legislation understand they are losing the argument. That&#8217;s why they aren&#8217;t trying to defeat it outright. They&#8217;re trying to delay it.
Slow it down. Demand more studies. Hold more hearings. Push it past July 4. Kick it into election season.
Washington calls it &#8220;process.&#8221; The American people call it failure.
The digital asset revolution isn&#8217;t coming — it&#8217;s already here. The only question is whether America leads it or watches from the sidelines while competitors race ahead.
President Trump has made his position clear: America should be the crypto capital of the world.
He&#8217;s right.
The nations that lead digital assets, blockchain technology, and next-generation finance will enjoy a significant economic advantage for decades to come. America can either write the rules or live under someone else’s.
There is no third option.
China understands what&#8217;s at stake. Beijing is investing aggressively in the technologies that will define the next century because it wants to dominate the infrastructure of tomorrow&#8217;s global economy.
Congress should not hand China that opportunity.
For more than two centuries, America has led the world in the most important innovations—from the Industrial Revolution to the Internet Revolution. There&#8217;s no reason to surrender leadership now.
The stakes extend far beyond cryptocurrency. This is about whether the next generation of financial innovation is built in America or overseas, whether American workers benefit from that growth, and whether consumers gain access to faster, cheaper, and more efficient financial tools.
The current system rewards gatekeepers and middlemen. The American people deserve better.
Trump voters support it. Independent voters support it. Young voters support it. Entrepreneurs support it. Small-business owners support it.
Lawmakers should also recognize that not every bill moving through Washington has a clear path forward. The ROAD to Housing Act passed the House with several toxic Maxine Waters amendments that complicate its prospects for timely advancement in the Senate. Housing affordability remains an important priority, but with the housing package facing a rocky road and the Clarity Act gaining momentum by the day, the choice should be obvious for legislators looking for their next major bipartisan win.
The legislative calendar is shrinking. Campaign season is approaching. Every day without Congressional action makes success more difficult.
America&#8217;s 250th birthday should be more than a celebration of our past — it should be a declaration about our future.
Passing the Clarity Act before July 4 would do more than fulfill a campaign promise. It would demonstrate that America still has the courage to lead. Congress has a chance to send a message heard around the world: the United States is not retreating from innovation, surrendering to bureaucracy, or allowing Beijing to dictate the future.
America intends to win the race, lead the future, and remain the world&#8217;s economic powerhouse for generations to come.
With bipartisan support growing and momentum building, Congress has a rare opportunity to deliver a victory that is both symbolic and substantive.
The question is whether lawmakers will seize it — or let it slip away.
