Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) said Sunday that a Democrat-led Congress would cut off funding for further military action in Iran, even with American personnel still in the region.

Khanna, speaking to “Fox News Sunday” anchor Shannon Bream, said that he would vote to stop all funding for further military action in the ongoing war with Iran — even as American assets and personnel remain in the region.

The conversation began with a question from Bream about an ad — created by Rebellion PAC — that promoted Michigan Democrat Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed and essentially blamed the increased cost of living in the United States on funding sent to Israel. Bream asked whether Khanna would condemn the ad, and he stopped short of doing so — instead, he said he and El-Sayed had both “disagreed” with the ad.

Khanna changed the subject when Bream pointed out that disagreement and condemnation are not the same.

Claiming that high gas prices were solely the result of the Iran war, Khanna asserted that those gas prices would come down immediately if Democrats were given control of Congress — because he said that “on day one” they would stop all funding for the Iran War.

“Let me ask you about the plan to do that,” Bream pushed back. “You say ‘day one,’ does that mean defunding operations — would you defund U.S. military operations while we have assets in that region?”

“I would stop the funding — the House and the Senate should stop the funding for any further actions in the Iran War,” he insisted. “That’s what we did to stop the Vietnam War, and we need to stop this war in Iran. And by the way, the president can’t veto that. The House and the Senate have the power on the appropriations bills.”

Khanna did not address the fact that cutting off any additional funding while American personnel and assets are still engaged in operations in harm’s way would likely put them at much greater risk before it brought hostilities to an end.
