Daily Wire host Michael Knowles was interviewed by CBS Mornings co-host Tony Dokoupil for a segment that aired Thursday morning, dissecting President-elect Donald Trump’s huge success among men in the 2024 election. 
In the segment, Dokoupil talked to conservative and liberal political commentators and strategists to investigate how Trump made massive gains among Latino men and men under 30. Among Latino men of all ages, Trump saw an 18-point swing in his favor in 2024, while 18-29-year-old men swung toward Trump by 8 points. 
“Trump appealed to men because he appealed to men,” Knowles told the CBS Mornings co-host. “He actually campaigned to try to win their votes.” 
“When Kamala was campaigning, such as it was for young men, she sent out her husband to describe masculinity as toxic. Not a great way to win people over,” Knowles added. “She sent out Barack Obama to harangue black men who didn’t want to vote for her.” 
CBS played clips of second gentleman Doug Emhoff criticizing the “trope out there that you gotta be tough and angry and lash out to be strong” and then played a clip of former President Obama scolding black men for not “feeling the idea of having a woman as president.” 
“This is not the way to win the hearts and minds of young men,” said Knowles. 
“Knowles feels the Left has utterly lost its way on gender,” Dokoupil narrated.

“It’s no wonder they’ve turned men away, but it’s no wonder that they’ve turned women away either,” the Daily Wire host added. “Because women don’t want girly men. Women want men to be like men.&#8221;
“There were distinctions between the roles of men and women in the past that always had exceptions, but nevertheless were defined,” he continued. “But now in the name of equality, we seek to deny any distinction. I think what men want and what women want, for that matter, is just to return to a kind of normal society where we can have our traditional way of life and not be constantly taken aback by all sorts of ideological matters. And I think Trump, in his own way, offered that.” 
“Trump is normal,” Dokoupil quipped. 
“Paradoxically so,” Knowles replied. 
After the segment aired, CBS Mornings co-host Gayle King praised Knowles for pointing out that “Trump appealed to men because he appealed to men.”

The Washington Post published a <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/style/power/2025/01/15/jill-biden-interview-first-lady/?utm_campaign=wp_main&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> on Wednesday about its &#8220;exit interview&#8221; with Jill Biden, noting that the first lady has become the &#8220;keeper of the family grudges&#8221; — a nod to what she wrote in her 2019 memoir about recalling &#8220;every slight committed&#8221; against the people that she loves.
&#8220;Which brings us to Nancy Pelosi, whom Jill has known nearly as long as Joe,&#8221; the report said. &#8220;Who had been a close friend to Joe as they ascended to the highest tier of American politics. Whom Jill couldn’t wait to invite to the White House once coronavirus restrictions allowed the Bidens to entertain. And who went on MSNBC’s &#8216;Morning Joe&#8217; in July with a shiv.&#8221;
Though he won the Democratic Party&#8217;s 2024 nomination with the support of more than 14 million primary voters, then-81-year-old Joe Biden bowed out of the White House race in July following a fumbling debate performance against former President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/donald-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Donald Trump</a> under pressure from allies who raised concerns about his age, mental acuity, and electability. Vice President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/kamala-harris" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kamala Harris</a>, with Biden&#8217;s endorsement, quickly garnered support and became the Democrats&#8217; presidential nominee. Harris ended up losing to Trump.
During this time, CNN <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2024/07/17/politics/nancy-pelosi-biden-conversation/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> Pelosi privately told Biden that polls showed he could not defeat Trump like he did in 2020 and that he could hurt other members of his party in down-ticket races if he did not bow out. And, in what is widely viewed as a key tipping point — the MSNBC interview — Pelosi <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2024-election/nancy-pelosi-stops-short-saying-biden-stay-race-says-time-running-shor-rcna161097" target="_blank" rel="noopener">emphasized</a> that she would support whatever decision Biden made about his political future at a time when the president was already insisting he would not leave the race. &#8220;It’s up to the president to decide if he is going to run,&#8221; she said. Her remarks on MSNBC <a href="https://www.newyorker.com/news/daily-comment/nancy-pelosis-art-of-power" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reportedly emboldened</a> more Democrats to turn on Biden.

After Harris lost the presidential election to Trump, Pelosi appeared to blame the outcome on Joe Biden during an interview with <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/11/08/us/politics/pelosi-harris-biden-open-primary.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The New York Times</a>.
&#8220;Had the president gotten out sooner, there may have been other candidates in the race,” Pelosi <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/pelosi-blames-kamalas-loss-on-joe-biden" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>, adding, &#8220;The anticipation was that, if the president were to step aside, that there would be an open primary.&#8221;
Pelosi also said: &#8220;And as I say, Kamala may have, I think she would have done well in that and been stronger going forward. But we don’t know that. That didn’t happen. We live with what happened. And because the president endorsed Kamala Harris immediately, that really made it almost impossible to have a primary at that time. If it had been much earlier, it would have been different.&#8221;
There had been <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/hes-furious-at-you-pelosi-grilled-about-dem-mutiny-against-biden" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reports</a> that Joe Biden was frustrated at Pelosi, <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2024/08/14/biden-frustration-obama-pelosi-00173883" target="_blank" rel="noopener">among others</a>, for pressing him to step aside. However, Biden <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-does-not-deny-democrats-forced-him-out-claims-he-wouldve-won" target="_blank" rel="noopener">insisted</a> during an interview on ABC&#8217;s &#8220;The View&#8221; in September that his relationship with Pelosi was &#8220;fine.&#8221; Joe Biden also claimed — as he has done <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/who-the-hell-knows-biden-gets-asked-if-he-would-have-the-vigor-to-serve-another-term" target="_blank" rel="noopener">multiple times</a> now — that he was &#8220;confident&#8221; that he would have beaten Trump in a rematch.

Though the song was released in 2024, its lyrics are certainly timely now. In the second line of the song, he sings, “The streets are full of fire and smoke.” It is as though he is referring to the California wildfires, which just began last week.

Tom engages an older tradition of popular music and poetry. The older tradition to which he harkens back is one of works written by poets and musicians that are going to stand as a testament for all time, eternal musings on profound truths. Much of the history of popular music and certainly of poetry involves punditry. In this tradition, music and poetry responded to particular political affairs of the time. Even Dante, my favorite poet, does this. In some ways, Dante is a commentator, a pundit. In the “Divine Comedy,” he writes about contemporary Florentine political figures, continental European political figures, and even the pope. So Tom is partaking in a long-standing tradition — to air his political grievances in real time.
He ends the song with the line, “Burn someone else’s flag” — a recurring notion in this song. The image that he creates at the beginning is our country being on fire. He is pointing out there is a relationship between the symbol and the symbolized. He is connecting the people who regularly burn the American flag — their policies, their neglect, their hatred of our home — has led to the literal burning of our country.
He continues returning to the line, “We love our home.” This is probably my favorite line in the whole song: “We love our home. And if you don’t / Pack your bags, you’re free to go.” This is not the ideological patriotism of the liberals, or even the libertarians — despite the Gadsden flag and “don’t tread on me” references. The song says we love our home.

Now, why do I love America? I love America, not because of the Declaration of Independence, nor because of some law that was passed at some point. I love America because it is my country, because it is my home.
I started <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/mayflower-cigars-celebrates-monumental-year-of-success" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mayflower Cigars</a> because the brand relates to my family, to a true feeling of home going back to the year 1620, to a deeper form of patriotism than can be written in some manifesto. I do not agree with everything the pilgrims believed. In fact, there is much that the pilgrims believed with which I do not agree. And though they were really smart fellows, I do not agree with everything the Founding Fathers believed. But I love them because they are my forebearers, my ancestors; they helped build my country — and I love my home.
Notably, my home is different from your home. But it is good to love one’s home simply because it is one’s home. It is good to have care for one’s home simply because it is one’s home. The late philosopher Roger Scruton wrote about the love of home, the same love of home that Tom is referring to here. It is deeper than any Gadsden flag or political slogan on the Left or Right.
These passing ideologues who want to burn our country down come and go, but we are still here. So, “goodbye Joe.” We are going to remain here, and we are going to defend our homes.

The following essay was originally published on Andrew Klavan&#8217;s Substack, &#8220;<a href="https://thenewjerusalem.substack.com/p/essay-12-weve-won-what-now">The New Jerusalem</a>.&#8221;
The night Donald Trump won re-election, a sense of sweet peace settled over me. It had little to do with politics, little even to do with Trump himself. Trump is, to be sure, a titanic figure, a living avatar of our age, for good and sometimes ill. No other man I know of could have manifested the inner iron required to defy the entrenched powers and withstand their tidal onslaught of abuse and deceit.
But his fight was not my fight, and his victory was just a symbol of my victory. I have only ever been a novelist, a storytelling artist. I drifted into political commentary when, after seven years as an expatriate, I returned to an America whose foundational ideas had been gutted by a corrupted culture. Our universities were infested with leftist theorists who worked to smother the voices of the sages they were meant to teach. Our news media was biased to the point of corruption. And our entertainment media was using every pop icon from Superman to Snow White as a propagandist for perversion, racialism, and Western self-hatred.
When, barely a year after my return, a group of Islamist murderers attacked the city of my birth, slaughtering three thousand civilians in the name of their hateful god — and when, in response, our professors and journalists and entertainers quivered with philosophical nuance, wondering aloud what the naughty U.S. had done to bring this atrocity upon itself — and when the film industry in which I worked began churning out movies about evil G.I.’s and CIA agents tormenting and oppressing innocent Muslims in their cherubic multicultural piety — I saw no other honorable course but to write and speak about these moral distortions.
I believe, though I can’t prove, that this decision cost me my multi-million dollar career as a screenwriter and my place of respect in the literary world I love. All I know for sure is that the phone calls from Hollywood and the awards and raves from New York vanished in a startling flash.
Nevertheless, I persisted. And over the next twenty years or so, I watched as entrepreneurs like Andrew Breitbart, Jeremy Boreing, Bari Weiss and Elon Musk organized scattered and lonesome rebels like myself into an internet militia which, like our revolutionary forefathers, could pop out of cover and take potshots at the goose-stepping legions of the empire of lies.
To me, Trump’s victory meant simply this: we beat them. Skirmish by skirmish, we exposed their oppressive philosophies, their abuses of power, and their ceaselessly dishonest mangling of history, news and national mythology. When they slandered Trump as Hitler, when they indicted him on wholly bogus charges, when they created movies and TV shows and novels singing the praises of government power and idiot utopianism, we shot them down one by one until half the electorate felt bold enough to reject them.
The day was ours.
So … What now?

The losers, of course, must pass through the seven stages of grief: anger, whining, blaming everyone but themselves, more whining, denial, denial, denial. Who knows if they will ever face the facts? Their philosophy was false; their policies failed; they lied and censored in an effort to maintain their power and prestige; the rotten structure collapsed on their heads. End of story.
The victorious entrepreneurs, having done the negative work of debunking the opposition’s lies, must now build the structures for the positive business of truth-telling: unbiased journalism, the creation of high and popular art, and the infrastructure of commentary, appreciation, reviews and awards.
But I remain what I always was: a barefoot teller of tales. For me, there is only one question. What do I want to write about next?
The answer is this: I want to explore the nature of God.
Over these past twenty years or so, it has become increasingly clear to me that our worst problems have their sources in unbelief. Our centuries-long drift away from Christian faith — what Nietzsche called the death of God — is, as Nietzsche predicted it would be, at the heart of our catastrophe.
Most often, it manifests itself in one of three forms. Materialism, the idea that spiritual problems can be solved by physical means. Misogyny, devaluing women as women — as wives, homemakers and mothers who excel outside masculine power structures. And antisemitism, the hatred of Jews, which as I explained in a previous essay, is really a disguised hatred of one Jew, namely Jesus Christ. Examine our most entrenched dysfunctions — the dearth of children, degrading promiscuity and perversion, government redistribution of wealth, censorship and authoritarianism, drug abuse both lay and medical, the sexual butchering of the young, the atrocity of abortion, the snarling cruelty and ignorance of our debates — and you can trace them back to one of these three manifestations of our faithlessness.
But the truth is, just as we have won the political argument, this argument too is already over.
“Something profound is happening,” writes Peter Savodnik in the Free Press. “Instead of smirking at religion, some of our most important philosophers, novelists, and public intellectuals are now reassessing their contempt for it.” Sales of Bibles Are Booming, Fueled by First-Time Buyers, reads the Wall Street Journal headline. The sales spiked 22% in a year.
The revival of the intelligentsia — which I’ve predicted for over a decade — has begun.
As in the political sphere, our job is no longer to debunk the non-believers, it is to rediscover what it means to believe. The ancient and medieval wisdoms and orthodoxies are important, but there are more basic questions that have to be answered before thinking non-believers can even put their toe in those deep waters. Plus, old language may not always suffice in our new scientific and technological world.
As <a href="https://thenewjerusalem.substack.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The New Jerusalem</a> enters a new year and, I hope, a new era, I would like to propose some topics for open discussion.
<h3>Heart vs. Mind</h3>
Science, technology and capitalism are so responsive to the work of intellection that they have lifted reason above its station. GK Chesterton was right when he said, “The madman is not the man who has lost his reason. The madman is the man who has lost everything except his reason.”
Conversely, prophets, artists, and mystics are frequently not the most intellectual of men. They possess a wholeness of perception that reveals the world to them with an immediacy that can only be communicated by parable, art, and praxis.
When we look at Jesus honestly, we find he too is vastly bigger than our theologies. His presence cannot be reduced to rules and philosophies. We must renew the rituals and practices that can re-open our eyes to a love beyond reason.
<h3>Inside vs. Out</h3>
For centuries, materialist thinkers have sought to find the source of spiritual reality within the mind of man. Whether it was a Freudian understanding of God as a psychic projection of our fathers, the Jungian dodge of a “collective unconscious,” or an image of the evolved brain as a generator of false perceptions, the basic idea was that spiritual truth is a psychic creation rather than an outward reality.
Not so. We see God through a glass darkly, but his incarnation in Christ is proof that what we see is really there. What should we believe, then, about God’s actions on earth? The reality of angels and demons? The efficacy of prayer? How can we discuss this without descending into either superstition or rationalism?
<h3>Symbol vs. Reality</h3>
The thesis of all religion is that there is an invisible reality that our world reveals and symbolizes. Transcendental values like love, justice and mercy must be made manifest in human word and deed. But what are the limits? It’s lovely to say a husband and wife represent Christ and the church, but is that what he’s thinking when he’s chasing her around the bedroom? (I hope not!)
While living into transcendentals can elevate our behavior, inhuman restrictions based on metaphor can be immiserating, inflame doctrinal hatred and give fuel to the arguments of unbelievers. Can we discuss ecumenicism, interfaith cooperation, and various other species of tolerance and deviance without either moral surrender or bullying self-certainty?
<h3>Orthodoxy vs. Individuality</h3>
A church without orthodoxy is Satan’s sandbox. Orthodoxy creates the image of the spiritual kingdom to which we are responsible. But each person’s journey to that kingdom is unique and may take them through territory of which church orthodoxy disapproves. Can we allow the beauty of the single soul to thrive in a church of true faith?
I’ve given up much to speak my mind. Money and prestige and career dreams. All things of value, make no mistake. My peaceful sense of victory now is gratifying. But the destruction of lies is not the triumph of the truth, and it’s on the truth that the reclamation of our culture depends. Our enemy counts on us to defend our faith with rigidity, belligerence and cruelty. Give us vision, open minds and loving hearts, and we will watch him fall like lightning.

On Monday, the Minnesota Republican Party vowed to pursue recall efforts against Democrat lawmakers threatening to boycott the start of the legislative session to prevent Republicans from using their expected temporary majority.
According to a <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/mn-gop-vows-recall-efforts-dem-lawmakers-threaten-skip-work-two-weeks">report</a> by Fox News, &#8220;Republicans currently hold a 67-66 seat majority in the Minnesota House and could use that majority to set legislative rules for the next two years when the session begins on Tuesday.&#8221; Democrats are considering boycotting the first two weeks of the session, preventing Republicans from capitalizing on their (likely temporary) majority.

Republicans obtained their thin majority due to a vacancy in a Democrat-held seat after Curtis Johnson, who won the November election, was disqualified when courts determined he did not reside in the district. A special election in the predominantly Democratic district is scheduled for January 28, which could shift the majority back to Democrats.
In addition to the upcoming special election, Republicans are contesting the election of Rep. Brad Tabke (D-MN), who won re-election by a margin of 14 votes. Concerns have arisen over the legitimacy of the results after county election officials lost 20 absentee ballots in one precinct. The GOP is pursuing legal avenues to address these issues
&#8220;GOP Attorney Ryan Wilson says Minnesota law requires that a recall petition receives at least 25 signatures from voters in a given district,&#8221; per Fox.
If the state Supreme Court approves the reasoning, the petition would then need to be signed by at least 25% of the voters who cast ballots in the district during the November election. Successful petitions would lead to a recall vote in the affected districts.
Republicans plan to base their recall efforts on &#8220;nonfeasance,&#8221; alleging that Democrats are failing to perform their required duties by refusing to attend legislative sessions. &#8220;We&#8217;ve never had a situation like this in the history of the legislature, where 66 members of a caucus are unwilling to show up for work,&#8221; Wilson added.
Democrats, led by Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN), have not publicly commented on the potential recall efforts.

As a gesture to show his deep feelings for the country that has paid him so well, Biden held a final ceremony to award the Presidential Medal of Freedom, our highest civilian award, to such patriots as George Soros, Hillary Clinton, Darth Vader, the Wicked Witch of the West, that drooling cave troll from Lord of the Rings who looks like a deformed King Kong wielding a huge death-hammer, and of course one of the convicts Biden pardoned who was on death row for killing and eating his wife and children after keeping them locked in a root cellar for 180 days. All the award recipients gathered at the White House for the ceremony, except for the cave troll, who refused to appear at the same event as George Soros, saying that would be beneath his dignity.
As the transfer continued, president-elect Trump prepared to take office by engaging in some brinkmanship with Chinese President Xi, sneaking up behind Xi and flicking him in the back of the head then shouting, “Ha, ha, ha, made you brink!”

Biden hearkened back to his winning 2020 campaign, making references to his old boss — former President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/barack-obama" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Barack Obama</a> — and his son, Beau Biden, who died of brain cancer in 2015. He also mentioned President-elect <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/donald-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Donald Trump</a>, who won the 2024 contest.
&#8220;I don&#8217;t know,&#8221; the president said in his response. &#8220;That&#8217;s why I thought when I first announced, talking to Barack about it, I said I thought I was the person. I had no intention of running after Beau died – for real, not a joke. And then when Trump was running again for reelection, I really thought I had the best chance of beating him.&#8221;
He added: &#8220;But I also wasn&#8217;t looking to be president when I was 85 years old, 86 years old. And so I did talk about passing the baton. But I don&#8217;t know. Who the hell knows? So far, so good. But who knows what I&#8217;m going to be when I&#8217;m 86 years old?&#8221;

Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) denied that he and other Democrats lied to the American people over the last four years about President Joe Biden&#8217;s mental fitness for office.
Schumer made the remarks when pressed about the matter during a Sunday interview on NBC News&#8217; &#8220;Meet The Press&#8221; by Kristen Welker, who offered little pushback to Schumer&#8217;s claims.
Welker played remarks that Schumer made last year when he claimed that he regularly talked with Biden, sometimes &#8220;several times in a week.&#8221;
&#8220;His mental acuity is great. It&#8217;s fine,&#8221; Schumer said. &#8220;It&#8217;s as good as it&#8217;s been over the years. All this right-wing propaganda that his mental acuity has declined is wrong.&#8221;
Welker then pressed Schumer: &#8220;What do you say to Americans who feel as though you and other top Democrats misled them about President Biden&#8217;s mental acuity?&#8221;
&#8220;No. Look, we didn&#8217;t,&#8221; Schumer claimed. &#8220;And let&#8217;s – let’s look – let’s look at President Biden. He&#8217;s had an amazing record. The legislation we passed, one of the most significant groups of legislation since the New Deal – since Lyndon Johnson&#8217;s Great Society, putting in 235 judges, a record. And he&#8217;s a patriot. He&#8217;s a great guy. And when he stepped down, he did it on his own because he thought it was better not only for the Democratic Party, for America. President-elect <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/donald-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Donald Trump</a> responded on Tuesday night to President Joe Biden&#8217;s recent claims that he regrets dropping out of the 2024 presidential race and believed he could have once again beaten Trump.
Trump ultimately — and soundly — defeated Vice President Kamala Harris on November 5th, but he had pulled ahead dramatically in polling after Biden followed weeks of concerning public appearances on the world stage with a disastrous performance in the CNN debate. Biden bowed out of the race on July 21, after what most believe was a coordinated attempt to push him out, and the party effectively foisted Harris on the people despite the fact that she never won a single primary vote on her own.
Still, Trump was asked to respond to Biden&#8217;s most recent claims as he walked into his New Year&#8217;s Eve Gala at Mar-a-Lago.

Trump&#8217;s response to that was simple: &#8220;Well, I just want everybody to be happy, healthy, and well. Thank you.&#8221;
The reporter continued to press, adding, &#8220;The New York Post reports that Biden regrets dropping out; he thinks he could have beaten you. What do you say?&#8221;
&#8220;Well, he was way behind, he would have, I assume, not have had a chance,&#8221; Trump replied, noting that Biden&#8217;s poll numbers had been worse than Harris&#8217; were. &#8220;He was way behind her. And we won in record numbers, as you know, every swing state. We won the popular vote by millions and millions of people.&#8221;
&#8220;Hey look, I wish him well,&#8221; Trump continued. &#8220;He had a chance to do it in the debate. And that didn’t work out too well for him. That was, I guess, the reason that really led to his downfall.&#8221;
