A Jewish House Democrat slammed the pro-Palestinian demonstrators who clashed with police at the Democratic National Committee (DNC) headquarters in Washington, D.C., last week.

“I was very disappointed to see what happened over at the DNC the other day,” Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) said during an interview on Sunday.

“For those who are somehow tempted to engage in pushing and shoving … I’m totally opposed to that. They should study the history of non-violent movements in America,” Raskin added.

The congressman was responding to a question from CNN’s Jake Tapper during a sit-down discussion on “State of the Union.”

Tapper had asked, “What do you make of this, as a Jewish American, a proud progressive, a Democrat?” while also noting, “There is anti-Semitism in the Democratic Party these days.”

Raskin claimed there is “anti-Semitism everywhere these days” adding,” We’re talking about a problem that goes back thousands of years.”

An estimated 200 people gathered in front of the DNC headquarters on Wednesday night to demand a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, where U.S.-backed Israeli forces are fighting Hamas following terrorist attacks in Israel last month and working to free hundreds of hostages believed to be held in the enclave.

The U.S. Capitol Police released a statement saying members of Congress were in the building when the demonstrators ignored orders to move back from the DNC.

In explaining how the demonstrators were “not peaceful,” the Capitol Police said the group pepper-sprayed officers as well as punching them, moved dumpsters in front of the exits, and attempted to pick up a bike rack.

Six officers were injured — including getting pepper sprayed and being punched — and one person was arrested for assaulting an officer, the Capitol Police said.

The incident at the DNC was so harrowing that one House Democrat even reportedly compared the events of that night to the U.S. Capitol breach on January 6, 2021.

It “scared me more than January 6,” the unnamed lawmaker told Axios. When the House member attempted to leave the DNC, “someone sent out word for people to come [back] and police said it’s not safe. Police were wearing gas masks … this was not peaceful,” the lawmaker recounted.
