The Democrats gave Republicans in command of Congress a trump card should former President Bill Clinton and his wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, fight their <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/congress-subpoenas-clintons-doj-records-and-former-officials-in-sweeping-epstein-investigation" target="_blank" rel="noopener">subpoenas</a> for testimony related to deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, said House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY).
During an <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/video/6376766065112" target="_blank" rel="noopener">interview on Fox News</a>, Comer explained to &#8220;Sunday Morning Futures&#8221; anchor Maria Bartiromo that a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/house-panel-votes-to-subpoena-epstein-files-clintons-ex-law-enforcement-leaders" target="_blank" rel="noopener">bipartisan vote</a> underlying the subpoenas demanding an October 9 deposition with Hillary Clinton and October 14 deposition with Bill Clinton could be a valuable asset in a potential court battle. Comer also subpoenaed the Department of Justice (DOJ) for documents related to Epstein as well as several ex-law enforcement leaders for testimony.

&#8220;What makes these subpoenas special and historical is that they came as a result of a bipartisan vote,&#8221; Comer said. &#8220;The Democrats made a motion, like we knew they would, to subpoena the Epstein documents, which Republicans support. Scott Perry from Pennsylvania amended that motion to include subpoenas for both Bill and Hillary Clinton, as well as six former attorneys generals — and the Democrats voted for it.&#8221;
He continued, &#8220;Now they&#8217;re scared and trying to say they didn&#8217;t vote for it, but they did. It&#8217;s on record. And that helps us in court. If the Clintons try to fight this subpoena, which we presume they will, this &#8230; subpoena came as a result of a bipartisan vote, which has never happened before in the House Oversight Committee.&#8221;
The Clintons have sought to distance themselves from Epstein, a wealthy financier and convicted sex offender who was found dead at the age of 66 in his New York City jail cell in 2019 — after being arrested on sex trafficking charges involving young girls. Bill Clinton&#8217;s spokesperson released a statement in 2019 that acknowledged some trips on Epstein&#8217;s plane and meetings with him, but <a href="https://x.com/angelurena/status/1148357927625023490" target="_blank" rel="noopener">denied</a> the former president had knowledge of Epstein&#8217;s crimes or made trips to his private island.
In his subpoena <a href="https://oversight.house.gov/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/2025.08.05-Subpoena-Cover-Letters.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">cover letters</a>, Comer said there were &#8220;conflicting reports&#8221; about whether Bill Clinton did visit Epstein&#8217;s island. The chairman noted Bill Clinton was &#8220;allegedly close&#8221; to Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell and &#8220;attended an intimate dinner with her in 2014, three years after public reports about her involvement in Mr. Epstein’s abuse of minors.&#8221; Maxwell, who is serving <a href="https://www.justice.gov/usao-sdny/pr/ghislaine-maxwell-sentenced-20-years-prison-conspiring-jeffrey-epstein-sexually-abuse">a 20-year prison sentence</a> after being found guilty of conspiring with Epstein to sexually abuse underage girls, is another person Comer has <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ghislaine-maxwell-sends-congress-list-of-demands-for-deposition" target="_blank" rel="noopener">subpoenaed</a>. Comer further pointed out that Maxwell’s nephew worked for Hillary Clinton&#8217;s 2008 presidential campaign and was hired by the State Department shortly after she became secretary of state.&#8221;
&#8220;So we&#8217;re looking forward to hearing from the Clintons,&#8221; Comer told Bartiromo. &#8220;The American people want to know what went on on Epstein island. We know Clinton went there many times. We just want to ask Bill Clinton what he saw when he was there and who all was involved.&#8221;

Green made the comments during a press conference in Illinois, where Democratic Texas state lawmakers fled over the weekend to deny the quorum needed to advance a Republican redistricting proposal.
As The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/texas-republicans-drop-new-congressional-map-that-would-flip-5-democrat-seats-red?author=Nathan+Gay&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=2&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Texas+Republicans+Drop+New+Congressional+Map+That+Would+Flip+5+Democrat+Seats+Red">reported</a>, the proposed map would shift Green&#8217;s Ninth Congressional District eastward into territory Trump carried by 15 points. Meanwhile, the 9th District&#8217;s current constituency would be packed into the vacant Democratic-held 18th District, according to Politico.
Trump has been <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-says-gop-can-get-five-more-house-seats-redistricting-just-one-state" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pushing</a> Texas and other states to draw their congressional maps with the expectation that Republicans would gain seats. In retaliation, Democrats have rallied for mid-decade redistricting in blue states. Shifting lines could give either party an edge in the 2026 midterm elections.
During his first term, Trump was impeached twice when the Democrats controlled the House. One inquiry dealt with Ukraine, and the other with January 6. Both efforts ended in acquittal by a GOP-led Senate.
The Democrats are currently powerless to secure a new impeachment inquiry because Republicans control both chambers of Congress. But that has not stopped Green, who has accused Trump of &#8220;<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/house-democrat-moves-to-impeach-trump-over-dastardly-deeds" target="_blank" rel="noopener">dastardly deeds</a>&#8221; and sought to get Trump impeached again multiple times.
Most recently, in June, he put forward an impeachment resolution over Trump ordering strikes on Iran&#8217;s nuclear facilities without the consent of Congress. It was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/house-gop-responds-to-texas-dems-failed-resolution-to-impeach-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">defeated</a>, with the help of Democrats, in a 344-79 vote. That followed the House censuring Green in a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/10-dems-join-gop-to-censure-rep-al-green-for-heckling-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">bipartisan fashion</a> for his outburst during Trump&#8217;s address to a joint session of Congress in March.
The Wall Street Journal just <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/voters-abandon-democrats-support-hits-lowest-level-in-more-than-three-decades-poll" target="_blank" rel="noopener">released</a> a poll that found the popularity of the Democratic Party has plunged to its lowest level in at least 35 years. However, if they manage to win back control of the lower chamber, House Democratic Caucus Chairman Pete Aguilar (D-CA) <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/congressional-black-caucus-leader-impeachable-trump-los-angeles-deployment" target="_blank" rel="noopener">indicated</a> last month that impeachment could make a comeback.
&#8220;There will be plenty of time, when [Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairwoman] Suzan DelBene guides us to the majority, for us to exercise oversight where we can ask some very difficult questions [about] the policies that the administration is going currently, but right now that isn&#8217;t our focus,&#8221; Aguilar said.

Congress is ratcheting up its investigation into matters related to deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, subpoenaing the Department of Justice (DOJ) for documents as well as former President Bill Clinton, his wife, and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and several ex-law enforcement leaders for testimony.
House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY) made the <a href="https://x.com/RepJamesComer/status/1952729381983408550" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announcement</a> on Tuesday, nearly two weeks after he <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/house-subpoenas-epstein-associate-ghislaine-maxwell">subpoenaed</a> Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell to participate in a deposition.
The DOJ has been compelled to provide records by August 19. A copy of the subpoena, <a href="https://oversight.house.gov/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/2025.08.05-Subpoena-and-Schedule-to-DOJ.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">posted</a> to the House Oversight Committee&#8217;s website, shows the breadth of documents being sought by lawmakers.
Former Attorney General William Barr is scheduled for a deposition on August 18, followed by former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales on August 26, and former Attorney General Jeff Sessions on August 28.  Former FBI Director Robert Mueller is set to be deposed on September 2, with former Attorney General Loretta Lynch to follow on September 9.
Afterwards, former Attorney General Eric Holder is set for a deposition on September 30, and former Attorney General Merrick Garland is scheduled for October 2. Former FBI Director James Comey is poised to face a deposition on October 7, while Hillary Clinton is slated for October 9, and Bill Clinton on October 14.
In his <a href="https://oversight.house.gov/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/2025.08.05-Subpoena-Cover-Letters.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">cover letters</a>, Comer explained how the Clinton family &#8220;appears to have had a close relationship&#8221; with Epstein and Maxwell. To the former law enforcement heads, the chairman noted the various ways the FBI and DOJ were involved in investigations, litigation, and other matters related to Epstein and Maxwell during their tenures.
Comer issued the new wave of subpoenas following <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/house-panel-votes-to-subpoena-epstein-files-clintons-ex-law-enforcement-leaders" target="_blank" rel="noopener">votes</a> on July 23 by Oversight&#8217;s Federal Law Enforcement Subcommittee.
Members approved by voice vote a motion from Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA) to issue the subpoenas to the Clintons and former law enforcement leaders. The panel also passed, by an 8-2 vote, an amended motion from Rep. Summer Lee (D-PA) to subpoena the DOJ for Epstein case records. Amendments by Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ), to include Biden administration communications with the DOJ regarding Epstein, and Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC), to redact victims’ names and any child sexual abuse material, were both adopted by voice vote.

A growing number of lawmakers have been pushing ever since the Trump administration&#8217;s DOJ claimed it had no evidence that Epstein had a client list, blackmailed powerful people, or was murdered after Attorney General Pam Bondi <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/shes-great-trump-backs-bondi-wants-top-officials-to-end-conflict-over-epstein">hinted</a> that major bombshells were about to be revealed. At the behest of Trump, who has argued that people are falling for a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/white-house-explains-trumps-epstein-hoax-claim">&#8220;hoax&#8221;</a> spun by the Democrats, Bondi later asked judges to unseal grand jury testimony from the cases against Epstein and Maxwell. One federal judge in Florida <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/hands-are-tied-federal-judge-denies-dojs-request-to-unseal-epstein-grand-jury-transcripts" target="_blank" rel="noopener">denied</a> the DOJ request. Judges in New York, where other cases took place, did not make decisions right away.
&#8220;While the Department undertakes efforts to uncover and publicly disclose additional information related to Mr. Epstein and Ms. Maxwell’s cases, it is imperative that Congress conduct oversight of the federal government’s enforcement of sex trafficking laws generally and specifically its handling of the investigation and prosecution of Mr. Epstein and Ms. Maxwell,&#8221; Comer wrote in his cover letter to Bondi.
&#8220;The Committee may use the results of this investigation to inform legislative solutions to improve federal efforts to combat sex trafficking and reform the use of non-prosecution agreements and/or plea agreements in sex-crime investigations,&#8221; the chairman added. &#8220;Documents related to the Department’s investigation and prosecution of Mr. Epstein and Ms. Maxwell are relevant to the Committee’s investigation.&#8221;
Maxwell reportedly was <a class="c-link c-link--focus-visible" href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ghislaine-maxwell-moved-from-florida-prison-to-lower-security-facility" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" data-stringify-link="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ghislaine-maxwell-moved-from-florida-prison-to-lower-security-facility" data-sk="tooltip_parent">moved</a> from a prison in Florida to a lower-security facility in Texas after meeting with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, who previously served as Trump’s personal lawyer. Her attorney wrote to Comer, in response to his subpoena demanding a deposition on August 11, warning that his client would <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ghislaine-maxwell-sends-congress-list-of-demands-for-deposition">refuse cooperation</a> with Congress if she is not granted immunity or given other concessions. The House Oversight Committee has rejected the idea of granting congressional immunity in exchange for Maxwell&#8217;s testimony.

Somebody said the other day that she&#8217;s one of the leaders of the party. I said, &#8216;You gotta be kidding.'&#8221;

In Crockett&#8217;s latest diatribe against Trump, she claimed that the Supreme Court and Congressional Republicans are letting him get away with unconstitutional actions. She <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/rep-jasmine-crockett-calls-trump-piece-s-during-liberal-rally">added</a> that Democrats need to start &#8220;getting aggressive&#8221; ahead of the 2028 election and pushed for more &#8220;guardrails&#8221; to be put in place on the &#8220;corrupt&#8221; Supreme Court.

A House Republican is set to introduce a bill to prevent states from enacting mid-decade redistricting plans that could reshape the balance of power in Congress.
The offering from Rep. Kevin Kiley (R-CA) comes as Texas lawmakers <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/texas-republicans-drop-new-congressional-map-that-would-flip-5-democrat-seats-red" target="_blank" rel="noopener">consider</a> a GOP-led redistricting plan that could turn five Democratic seats in the House red ahead of the 2026 elections, a move that prompted California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom to warn that his state might redraw its maps in retaliation before the midterms.
While the legislation seeks to stop all states from redrawing their maps before the 2030 census, Kiley is particularly focused on California.
Kiley’s office <a href="https://kiley.house.gov/posts/rep-kiley-to-introduce-redistricting-legislation" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> Newsom is looking to overturn a decades-long California Supreme Court precedent banning mid-decade redistricting and bypass the voter-approved Independent Citizens Commission. Should the Democrat governor go through with such a plan, it could threaten several Republican-held seats — including the one held by Kiley, who represents a district around Sacramento and Lake Tahoe.
“Gavin Newsom is trying to subvert the will of voters and do lasting damage to democracy in California,” Kiley declared in a <a href="https://kiley.house.gov/posts/rep-kiley-to-introduce-redistricting-legislation" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a>. “Fortunately, Congress has the ability to protect California voters using its authority under the Elections Clause of the U.S. Constitution. This will also stop a damaging redistricting war from breaking out across the country.”
President Donald Trump has been <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-says-gop-can-get-five-more-house-seats-redistricting-just-one-state" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pushing</a> Texas and other states to draw their congressional maps with the expectation that Republicans would gain seats. However, the president also indicated that his administration would sue California if it tried to create more Democratic-leaning districts.
“We’ll fight them. You know, they’re so corrupt in California,” Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-says-gop-can-get-five-more-house-seats-redistricting-just-one-state" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> last month. “You never know what’s going to happen, but we’ve done pretty well in the courts in California, as you see. We’re batting about 1,000, ultimately. We start off a little slow, and then we get a lot of hits.”
Newsom fired back at Republicans in response to a GOP proposal for redrawing districts in Texas that would ostensibly eliminate five Democratic seats.
“Donald Trump asks for 5 seats and Greg Abbott automatically bends the knee. The 2026 election is being rigged. California won’t sit back and watch this happen,” Newsom <a href="https://x.com/GavinNewsom/status/1950575761448124564" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>.
The battle over redistricting is heating up as dozens of Democratic lawmakers fled Texas to deny the quorum needed to advance that state’s redistricting proposal. Texas GOP Governor Greg Abbott has <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/abbott-to-awol-texas-democrats-respect-voters-or-be-removed" target="_blank" rel="noopener">threatened</a> a bid to have the AWOL Democrats removed from office if they do not return by Monday afternoon, in addition to potential charges.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul, another Democrat, has <a href="https://x.com/cspan/status/1952400698697466250" target="_blank" rel="noopener">signaled</a> interest in redrawing state congressional maps, too, if Republicans proceed with mid-decade redistricting in states they control.

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/ghislaine-maxwell" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ghislaine Maxwell</a>, a longtime companion to deceased sex offender <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/jeffrey-epstein" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jeffrey Epstein</a>, is threatening to refuse cooperation with Congress if she is not granted immunity or given other concessions for a deposition.
The demands were outlined in a <a href="https://x.com/yashar/status/1950250996946633126" target="_blank" rel="noopener">letter</a> sent on Tuesday to House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY) after he issued a subpoena last week to Maxwell, who is serving a 20-year prison sentence for conspiring with Epstein to sexually abuse underage girls.
David Oscar Markus, Maxwell&#8217;s attorney, wrote that their &#8220;initial reaction&#8221; to the subpoena, which seeks a deposition with at the Federal Correctional Institution in Tallahassee, Florida, on August 11, was that his client would &#8220;invoke her Fifth Amendment rights and decline to testify at this time.&#8221; But, he added, &#8220;further reflection&#8221; led them to offer &#8220;conditions&#8221; that would make it possible for Maxwell to cooperate.
The committee questioning Maxwell in prison and without a grant of immunity are &#8220;non-starters,&#8221; Markus warned. He said Maxwell &#8220;cannot risk further criminal exposure in a politically charged environment&#8221; and warned the potential for leaks from prison would create &#8220;real security risks and undermines the integrity of the process.&#8221; Markus also wrote that Maxwell would require questions in advance and requested the deposition be scheduled after the Supreme Court <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/epstein-accomplice-rolls-dice-with-supreme-court-appeals-to-get-conviction-tossed" target="_blank" rel="noopener">decides</a> on his client&#8217;s petition seeking to overturn her conviction.
&#8220;Of course, in the alternative, if Ms. Maxwell were to receive clemency, she would be willing — and eager — to testify openly and honestly, in public, before Congress in Washington, D.C.,&#8221; Markus wrote. &#8220;She welcomes the opportunity to share the truth and to dispel the many misconceptions and misstatements that have plagued this case from the beginning.&#8221;
So far, it does not appear Comer is willing to accept the full extent of Maxwell&#8217;s demands, which follow <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/justice-department-meets-with-ghislaine-maxwell" target="_blank" rel="noopener">meetings</a> with the Department of Justice.
&#8220;The Oversight Committee will respond to Ms. Maxwell’s attorney soon, but it will not consider granting congressional immunity for her testimony,&#8221; a spokesperson for the panel <a href="https://x.com/MacFarlaneNews/status/1950246277163196701" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> reporters.
A House Oversight panel also voted last week to subpoena files regarding Epstein and testimony from former President Bill Clinton, his wife and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and several ex-law enforcement leaders. Summer Lee (D-PA) to issue a subpoena to the Department of Justice (DOJ) for records from Epstein-related investigations.
&#8220;The American people deserve transparency and accountability, and his victims deserve justice,&#8221; Lee <a href="https://x.com/RepSummerLee/status/1948134908712362135" target="_blank" rel="noopener">declared</a> in a post on X. &#8220;The wealthy and powerful are not above the law.&#8221;
Reps. Nancy Mace (R-SC), Scott Perry (R-PA) and Brian Jack (R-GA) joined with five Democrats in approving the measure. Subcommittee Chairman Clay Higgins (R-LA) and Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) voted against it.
As noted by <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/house/5416843-epstein-doj-investigation-subpoenas/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Hill</a>, Mace <a href="https://x.com/NancyMace/status/1948150481345556519" target="_blank" rel="noopener">succeeded</a> in amending the motion to ensure that the identities of victims, personally identifying information, and possible child sexual abuse material are redacted.
The panel also voted to approve a motion from Perry to subpoena the Clintons, former FBI Directors James Comey and Robert Mueller, and former Attorneys General Merrick Garland, Eric Holder, William Barr, Loretta Lynch, Jeff Sessions, and Alberto Gonzales.
Further, lawmakers opted to pass a measure from Biggs to demand &#8220;all communications between President Biden or the Biden officials and the prosecuting agency related to the Epstein prosecutors also be released.&#8221;
The subpoenas, which must be signed off by Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY), &#8220;will be issued in the future,&#8221; a panel spokesperson told reporters.
Epstein, a wealthy financier and convicted sex offender with connections to several high-profile people, was found dead at the age of 66 in his New York City jail cell in 2019 — after being arrested on sex trafficking charges involving young girls.

Democrat James Osyf is listed as the owner of a $1.7 million D.C. townhome, raising questions about how connected he is with the Virginia district he wants to represent in Congress.
Osyf, 40, is vying with two other Democratic candidates to unseat GOP Rep. Jen Kiggans in Virginia’s second district. Osyf, a Navy veteran and executive at Lockheed Martin, is the most prominent of the three Democratic contenders.
Osyf is listed as the owner of a $1.7 million townhome in Washington, D.C., while the district he seeks to represent is located roughly 200 miles away in southern Virginia. In addition to the townhome, his campaign is registered at an address in D.C., as well. Records indicate that he does not own a residence in Virginia’s second district, according to the <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/07/23/us-news/dem-in-ultra-competitive-house-race-bases-campaign-in-dc-three-hours-outside-district/">New York Post</a>.
“It certainly doesn’t look good,” Todd Belt, director of the Political Management program at George Washington University, told the Post, adding that the poor optics associated with living outside the district are “why candidates often fake a residence in a district in order to run there.”
Virginia state law requires that candidates for office be residents of the state for at least one year prior to the election.
While Osyf’s campaign headquarters are currently located in Washington, he could amend his campaign filings later to change his headquarters to an address in the district.
Osyf wants to flip Virginia’s second district from Kiggans, who has held the seat since 2023 after she beat former Democratic Rep. Elaine Luria. Kiggans <a href="https://ballotpedia.org/Virginia%27s_2nd_Congressional_District">flipped</a> the seat by a vote of roughly 52% to 48%.
Kiggans held the seat in 2024 by a similar margin, overcoming a challenge from Democrat Missy Cotter Smasal by roughly 51% to 47%. Kiggans&#8217; seat is listed as “lean Republican” by <a href="https://www.cookpolitical.com/ratings/house-race-ratings">The Cook Political Report</a> for 2026.

More immediately, as of publication of this article, it appeared that a House Oversight subcommittee was on its way to <a href="https://x.com/mkraju/status/1948103513436778927" target="_blank" rel="noopener">passing</a> a motion to subpoena Epstein files.
