Anheuser-Busch competitor Yuengling sent out a well-timed tweet as the Bud Light drama drags on.

About one hour after the Anheuser-Busch CEO posted a lengthy statement on Twitter that attempted to quell tension in the wake of the PR crisis, the small Pennsylvania-based beer brewery Yuengling sent a tweet of its own.

“Yuengling, The Oldest Brewery In America. Independently Owned and Family Operated since 1829 because we make good beer,” the company wrote Friday alongside a photo of its traditional lager staged in front of an American flag.

The tweet, which had close to five million views Tuesday morning, had a lot of support from fans.

“Just found a new beer,” one user wrote.

“Good timing,” another person said.

“It just so happens I’m looking for a new favorite beer,” a third account replied.

Yuengling’s tweet was shared just after Anheuser-Busch CEO Brendan Whitworth released a statement that didn’t apologize but did acknowledge that the company never intended to “divide people.”

“As the CEO of a company founded in America’s heartland more than 165 years ago, I am responsible for ensuring every consumer feels proud of the beer we brew. We’re honored to be part of the fabric of this country,” Whitworth wrote.

“Anheuser-Busch employs more than 18,000 people and our independent distributors employ an additional 47,000 valued colleagues,” he continued. “We have thousands of partners, millions of fans and a proud history supporting our communities, military, first responders, sports fans and hard-working Americans everywhere. We never intended to be part of a discussion that divides people. We are in the business of bringing people together over a beer.”

He was reacting to a controversy that began on April 1 when trans-identifying influencer Dylan Mulvaney announced a partnership with Bud Light. This included several social media promotional posts and a personalized beer can to commemorate the first anniversary of Mulvaney’s “Days of Girlhood” TikTok video series.

News of the partnership set off a firestorm online, leading to boycotts. Some big-name country stars including Kid Rock and John Rich said they support the boycott, while several Republicans argue that the boycott should end due to Anheuser-Busch providing donor cash to the GOP.

Meanwhile, Pennsylvania-based brand Yuengling is getting more attention online. The nation’s oldest operating brewery currently sells its products in 26 U.S. states after expanding to Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma in February 2023.
