An 83-year old U.S. Air Force veteran who was shoved onto subway tracks in Manhattan earlier this month has died from his injuries, and the suspect, identified as a Honduran national in the country illegally, has now been charged with second-degree murder.
Richard Williams, a grandfather, succumbed to his injuries on March 17 after the March 8 attack at the Lexington Avenue–63rd Street station on the Upper East Side, according to authorities. The suspect, 34-year-old Bairon Hernandez, was arrested on March 10 at a homeless shelter. Following Williams’ death, prosecutors upgraded the charges from assault to second-degree murder, court records show.
The incident occurred just before noon, when police alleged Hernandez <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nypd-search-for-suspect-who-pushed-two-men-onto-subway-tracks">pushed Williams and a 30-year-old man</a> onto the southbound F train tracks. Bystanders managed to pull both victims back onto the platform before an oncoming train arrived. The second victim, identified as 30-year-old Jhon Rodriguez, was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Williams hit his head on the tracks and immediately lost consciousness, bleeding heavily from a head wound, according to Rodriguez.
Hernandez fled the scene but was later taken into custody. Authorities have not publicly indicated a motive. Prosecutors previously said Williams had been left “brain-dead” following the attack, and his daughter indicated in the days afterward that he was unlikely to recover. The medical examiner has since ruled his death a homicide. 
Williams, a retired Air Force pilot, had recently overcome a five-year battle with prostate cancer and was described by family as having found a renewed lease on life in the months before the attack. His daughter expressed outrage at the suspect in earlier remarks, calling for severe punishment in the wake of the attack. 
Hernandez, according to the Department of Homeland Security, is a “serial criminal” with a lengthy rap sheet of at least 15 prior charges, including aggravated assault, weapons possession, and domestic violence. Federal authorities say he had been deported from the United States four times after first entering the country illegally in 2008, but repeatedly reentered. He has since been indicted on a second-degree murder charge.
The killing has intensified concerns over public safety in New York City, which has seen a series of high-profile violent incidents in recent months. While overall crime rates fluctuate year to year, recent acts of violence, specifically by <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/illegal-indicted-after-allegedly-burning-woman-to-death-on-nyc-subway" target="_blank" rel="noopener">migrants</a> and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/mamdani-breaks-silence-after-nypd-confirms-bomb-was-used-in-terror-attempt" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Islamic-aligned elements,</a> have drawn sustained public attention and political debate.

Critics argue that gaps in vetting, supervision, and coordination between federal immigration authorities and local jurisdictions have contributed to public safety risks, while city officials maintain that the vast majority of migrants are law-abiding.
Still, for many New Yorkers, the death of Williams, a veteran who survived war and cancer only to be killed in a random act of violence, has become a stark symbol of the city’s ongoing struggle to balance public safety, immigration policy, and criminal justice enforcement.
The proximity of the events has contributed to a broader sense of unease in the city, particularly as officials grapple with overlapping challenges related to crime, policing, and social services. For many New Yorkers, the death of Williams, a veteran and elderly commuter, has become a stark symbol of those concerns.
Hernandez is to be arraigned in Manhattan Supreme Court on March 30.

A surface radar detection system used by air traffic controllers to monitor movements on runways did not alert before an Air Canada jet collided with a fire truck at LaGuardia Airport in New York on Sunday night, a crash that killed both pilots and injured crew members and dozens of passengers.
As authorities continue to investigate the deadly crash, the National Transportation Safety Board said on Tuesday that LaGuardia&#8217;s &#8220;Airport Surface Detection System — Model X&#8221; (ASDE-X) did not alert air traffic controllers before a fire truck <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/new-video-shows-air-canada-jet-erupting-on-impact-with-fire-truck-at-laguardia">drove onto the runway</a> in front of Air Canada Express Flight 8646.
The detection system uses radar and satellite technology to provide controllers with &#8220;detailed coverage of movement on runways and taxiways&#8221; and is &#8220;equipped with visual and aural alarms that will alert controllers of possible runway incursions or incidents,&#8221; <a href="https://www.faa.gov/air_traffic/technology/asde-x">according</a> to the Federal Aviation Administration.
On Sunday night, however, LaGuardia&#8217;s surface detection system failed to notify controllers of the looming disaster on runway 4, NTSB Chairwoman Jennifer Homendy told reporters. Quoting the analysis from a replay of the detection system, Homendy said the system did not alert controllers because the fire trucks on the ground were in close proximity and were &#8220;merging and unmerging near the runway, resulting in the inability to create a track.&#8221;
Homendy said the truck that collided with the jet did not have a transponder. While surface detection systems can track vehicles without transponders, Homendy said that transponders help the effectiveness of the system.
&#8220;In order for ASDE-X to work well, you have to know where ground vehicles and aircraft are, and in this case, that ground vehicle did not have a transponder,&#8221; she said. &#8220;And it would&#8217;ve been helpful — when you have a radar target, it does not provide you with the information that you need like it would for an aircraft as a controller.&#8221;
The NTSB chairwoman added that when investigators watched a replay of what the detection system showed controllers, it did not show any &#8220;blobs&#8221;— which represented the emergency vehicles — move in front of the plane, indicating that the system failed to accurately track the fire trucks.
The NTSB also revealed on Tuesday that there were two controllers on duty at the time of the deadly crash, which Homendy said was consistent with normal operating procedures for many airports, including LaGuardia, for the midnight shift. The midnight shift at LaGuardia begins at 10:30 p.m. and ends at 6:30 a.m. The Air Canada jet crashed into the fire truck at approximately 11:40 p.m.
The NTSB chairwoman said that officials would look into whether it &#8220;makes sense&#8221; for LaGuardia to operate with just two air traffic controllers on the midnight shift, or if the airport should change its procedures.
Homendy cautioned reporters about &#8220;pointing fingers at controllers,&#8221; arguing that there are many factors officials still must investigate before pinning the blame on air traffic controllers. Audio from the air traffic control tower revealed one of the controllers saying that he &#8220;messed up&#8221; after the collision. Another controller replied, &#8220;No man, you did the best you could.&#8221;
According to the NTSB, 25 seconds before the crash, truck 1 requested air traffic controllers to allow it to cross runway 4 as a group of emergency vehicles were responding to an issue with another jet on the tarmac. Twenty seconds before the end of the radio correspondence, &#8220;the tower cleared truck 1 and company to cross runway 4 at Taxiway Delta.&#8221;
When the truck was cleared to cross, the Air Canada jet was 100 feet from the ground as it approached runway 4. Nine seconds before the radio transmission was cut off, however, the air traffic controllers told truck 1 to stop, just one second before the Air Canada jet&#8217;s landing gear was heard touching down on the runway.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy shut down rumors that a deadly runway crash at New York&#8217;s LaGuardia Airport was caused by a lack of air traffic controllers, telling reporters on Monday that the airport is well-staffed.
Duffy, flanked by Governor Kathy Hochul (D-NY) and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani (D) along with several others, took several questions about the collision — between an Air Canada flight 8646 and a Port Authority fire truck — that occurred late Sunday night. While he deferred most questions to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), which is handling the full investigation, Duffy responded immediately when a reporter asked whether a lack of air traffic controllers had been a factor in the crash.
Several reports have included audio from Air Traffic Control that features one air traffic controller calling for the fire truck to stop — and then a short time later saying that he&#8217;d &#8220;messed up.&#8221; Another voice could be heard saying that he&#8217;d done &#8220;the best he could.&#8221;
One reporter asked Duffy at the press conference whether there was any truth to rumors that only one air traffic controller had been working at the time — and whether he thought such an incident might discourage people from choosing to become air traffic controllers, and Duffy said that it shouldn&#8217;t.
&#8220;I told you I am not going to talk about specifics, but for that question, I will say that is inaccurate,&#8221; Duffy said. He went on to note that the Transportation Department is doing everything possible to retain experienced air traffic controllers and train new recruits in order to fill vacancies, but he went on to say, &#8220;As airports go, LaGuardia is a well-staffed airport &#8230; I did want to clarify, I have heard the rumor there was only on controller in the tower and that is not accurate.&#8221;
Duffy laid out several key updates that he wanted Congress to approve funding for, saying that providing for the safety of the American people while they travel should not be a partisan issue. &#8220;There is bipartisan agreement so they should come together and figure out a way to give us the rest of the dollars to complete the job.&#8221;

Two pilots are dead following a collision between an Air Canada Express jet and an airport firetruck at New York City&#8217;s LaGuardia Airport late Sunday night, according to officials.
The Port Authority said an Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting vehicle was responding to a separate incident when it was struck by the aircraft. 
More than a <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/live-blog/air-canada-laguardia-collision-live-updates-rcna264682">dozen</a> passengers were injured in the crash, with several transported to Elmhurst Hospital and New York-Presbyterian Queens Hospital for treatment.
Jazz Aviation, which operates Air Canada Express, issued a statement.
“Flight 8646 was en route to LaGuardia (LGA) from Montréal (YUL),” the company <a href="https://flyjazz.mediaroom.com/2026-03-23-Jazz-Aviation-LP-operating-as-Air-Canada-Express-confirms-incident">said</a>. “The preliminary passenger list indicates the aircraft was carrying 72 passengers and 4 crew members, although this is subject to confirmation. The incident occurred at approximately 11:47 PM on March 22, 2026.” 
According to CNN, the aircraft had just landed and was traveling at approximately 100 miles per hour when it collided with the firetruck. Early reports suggest a possible communications issue might have contributed to the crash. 
Air traffic control audio from the incident appears to capture a controller saying he &#8220;messed up,&#8221; followed by another voice responding, &#8220;Nah man, you did the best you could.&#8221; The context and role of those individuals have not yet been officially confirmed.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced that LaGuardia Airport was shut down at 3:16 am and will not reopen until at least 2 pm. 
The New York Police Department said: &#8220;Due to an emergency incident at LaGuardia Airport, all streets and highway exits into the airport are closed until further notice. Expect delays and avoid the area if possible.” 
The crash comes as the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) shutdown enters its 37th day, disrupting air travel and airport operations nationwide.
As a result, major airports in the United States are experiencing severe delays with security wait times over three hours. TSA officers are working without pay during the shutdown which has led to higher absences. Over four hundred have quit since mid-February. “They’re going to take other jobs to put food on the table and pay the rent,” <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/airport-lines-tsa-agents-flight-delays-jfk-nola-spring-break-2026-3">said</a> Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy. “I do think it’s going to get much worse, and as it gets worse, I think that puts pressure on Congress to come to a resolution.” President Donald Trump announced on Saturday he will send ICE agents to “help our wonderful TSA agents who have stayed on the job despite.”

A Honduran national, deported four times from the United States, reportedly <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eiall5yi0wM">pushed</a> an elderly Air Force veteran onto the tracks of the New York City subway. You can <a href="https://www.wkrn.com/news/national/honduran-man-accused-of-shoving-2-onto-nyc-subway-tracks-was-deported-4-times-dhs/">read about it</a> in the local news, however, you&#8217;re not going to see a lot about it in the national news.
This guy was arrested last Tuesday for pushing two people: a 30-year-old man and an 83-year-old man onto the tracks. This was unprovoked. This guy is a serial criminal, a four-time deportee. According to the deputy assistant secretary of <a href="https://www.dhs.gov/news/2026/03/12/four-time-deported-criminal-illegal-alien-15-prior-charges-arrested-after-shoving">DHS</a>, he should never have been able to walk our streets and harm innocent Americans.

He’s probably going to get off the hook. Soon, he&#8217;ll be receiving various taxpayer subsidies and eating a dollar-a-slice pizza. He’s also probably living it up at the Roosevelt Hotel, where illegal aliens have been able to get better accommodations than most actual taxpaying New Yorkers for years now.
The reason this story matters is not that it&#8217;s shocking or surprising. It&#8217;s not “man bites dog.” This has been happening for a long time.
This is directly attributable to mayors and governors like Mamdani and Governor Kathy Hochul. Mamdani and Hochul and all the Democrat mayors and governors of sanctuary cities and states are aiding and abetting these crimes. They are actively encouraging these crimes because sanctuary cities and states refuse to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement, and they refuse to turn these criminals over to ICE.
According to the current policy in New York City, this guy — if he is sent to prison — will be allowed to get out and run free in the city afterward. When ICE shows up and says we want to pick this guy up and deport him for the fifth time, New York will say, No. We will not hand him over to you. We will protect the guy who threw the 83-year-old Air Force veteran onto the subway tracks, the guy with a rap sheet a mile long who has broken our laws countless times.

At this point, the only way to stop him from doing it again is probably capital punishment. Yes, right now he wouldn&#8217;t get back into the country because President Trump closed the border. But the next time you get a Democrat president, he or she will once again make the border wide open. And this guy will walk back in.
These Democrat mayors and governors — Zohran Mamdani, Kathy Hochul, and the rest of them — are actively working with this guy. They have blood on their hands. Every woman these people light on fire in a subway car in New York, every throat these people slash, every crime these people commit is on their hands.
And that&#8217;s not hyperbole. They are very practically, very literally protecting these people from federal immigration enforcement. They are keeping them in the country, holding them tight when federal immigration enforcement tries to enforce the law.
Furthermore, we have to recognize something about illegal immigration: every single crime that illegal immigrants commit here is needless, gratuitous, and preventable. Every single one.
The libs like to say, Actually illegal aliens commit much less crime than the native-born population.
First of all, that isn’t true. Then they try to say illegal aliens commit less violent crime than the native-born population. You can make some arguments for that, but they’re pretty weak arguments — and it misses the point.
We have to deal with the crime that native-born Americans commit. That’s baked in. We don’t have an option. We can’t strip them of citizenship. But every single illegal immigrant who commits a crime here — whether it’s rape and murder or jaywalking and tax evasion — every single one of those crimes is preventable.
And therefore the people who fight tooth and nail to keep illegal immigrants in this country — even the convicted criminals, felons, and murderers — those people have blood on their hands.
That is why immigration is not an abstract policy debate. It is a question of responsibility.
And the American people should hold every single Democrat accountable for it.

A man accused of shoving two men, including an 83-year-old Air Force veteran, onto New York City subway tracks on Sunday is an illegal immigrant who was previously deported on four separate occasions.
Bairon Posada-Hernandez first entered the country on January 2, 2008, and was subsequently deported four different times, most recently in 2020, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) revealed Thursday. He snuck into the country illegally a fifth time without getting caught.
The Honduran national also has a &#8220;lengthy&#8221; rap sheet of 15 prior charges, including simple assault, domestic violence, obstruction of police, possession of a weapon, drug possession, and aggravated assault, DHS said.
“Bairon Posada-Hernandez is a serial criminal and a four-time deported illegal alien from Honduras who should never have been able to walk our streets and harm innocent Americans,” Deputy Assistant Homeland Secretary Lauren Bis said in a statement Thursday.
“We are praying for the victims and their families. DHS is calling upon New York sanctuary politicians to commit to this ICE detainer and not release this heinous criminal back into New York communities,&#8221; Bis added.
Posada-Hernandez allegedly shoved the elderly veteran, who has since been identified as Richard Williams, and the 30-year-old man onto the tracks in an unprovoked attack late Sunday morning, <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/03/11/us-news/migrant-accused-of-shoving-83-year-old-another-man-onto-subway-tracks-calmly-walked-away-after-crime-video/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to the New York Post. The illegal immigrant then fled the scene before passersby saved the two men from getting hit by the next subway train.
Disturbing cellphone footage of the attack obtained by the New York Post showed Posada-Hernandez calmly walking away.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) lodged a detainer on March 10, requesting that local authorities hand Posada-Hernandez over to the feds, according to DHS.
Local authorities are not expected to comply due to sanctuary laws.
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a Democratic socialist, doubled down on those policies with an executive order last month.
More than 7,110 illegal immigrants were in local law enforcement custody across the state of New York in February with ICE detainers, according to DHS. The inmates account for 148 homicides, 717 assaults, 134 burglaries, 106 robberies, 235 dangerous drugs offenses, 152 weapons offenses, and 260 sexual predatory offenses.
Authorities arrested Posada-Hernandez around 5 a.m. on Tuesday at a homeless shelter in Brooklyn, according to the New York Post. He is now charged with attempted murder, attempted assault, assault, and reckless endangerment.
Williams is still clinging to life at a local hospital, the New York Post reported.
“My father, Richard, is on a respirator in the ICU in the hospital. That’s all we are going to say,” one of Williams’ daughters told the outlet Tuesday.

The deficit was unveiled by Democratic Mayor Zohran Mamdani during a preliminary budget hearing in February. Mamdani has proposed increasing the city’s budget from $115 billion under his predecessor to $127 billion for the upcoming fiscal year. 
A spokesperson for Mamdani said Moody&#8217;s action is <a href="https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/moody-downgrades-nyc-financial-outlook-202000768.html">premature</a>, noting that state lawmakers are considering roughly $5 billion in additional funding for the city.
In its statement, Moody&#8217;s acknowledged that the proposed state funding “could have a stabilizing effect over time,” but cautioned that it would matter only “if enacted.” 
Without additional state funding, Mamdani has proposed raising property taxes by <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/mamdanis-127b-budget-plan-relies-on-property-tax-increases-and-raiding-rainy-day-fund">9.5%</a> and taking <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/mamdanis-127b-budget-plan-relies-on-property-tax-increases-and-raiding-rainy-day-fund">$980</a> million from the city’s rainy-day fund. Moody&#8217;s warned that tapping reserves would “limit financial flexibility, especially if economic growth slows sharply or an outright downturn materializes.” 
New York City Comptroller Mark Levine described the potential property tax hike and use of reserves as having “dire consequences” and called Moody’s decision a red flag. 
“Moody’s decision to review New York City’s outlook to negative is a sobering wakeup call about the fiscal challenges ahead for us,” Levine said. 
The downgrade comes after a year in which the city posted record Wall Street revenues amid a strong local economy.
Despite revising the outlook, Moody&#8217;s left the city&#8217;s bond rating unchanged. A full downgrade would likely raise New York&#8217;s borrowing costs by signaling greater credit risks to investors.
Moody&#8217;s warned that a rating downgrade could follow if budget gaps widen to 10% of city revenue.
Mamdani has attributed the projected deficits to what he describes as mismanagement under former Mayor Eric Adams, arguing that prior budgets failed to adequately fund cash assistance, rental support, and shelter services.
During the Adams administration, the city absorbed more than <a href="https://www.cityandstateny.com/policy/2024/12/following-asylum-seeker-odyssey/382850/">210,000 migrants,</a> with officials estimating the cost of housing and support services at roughly <a href="https://www.cityandstateny.com/policy/2024/12/following-asylum-seeker-odyssey/382850/">$4.3</a> billion. Those expenses continue to strain the city&#8217;s budget.
Meanwhile, Mamdani has advanced several costly campaign proposals, including expanded childcare and transit initiatives. According to estimates cited by the New York Post, the mayor&#8217;s proposed expansion of childcare for two-year-olds could grow from $73 million in its first year to $425 million by 2027. A proposed &#8220;free and fast buses&#8221; initiative could cost the city up to <a href="https://www.vitalcitynyc.org/how-mamdani-can-delivery-free-buses-and-subways-too/#:~:text=For%20example%2C%20his%20own%20campaign,to%20be%20made%20up%20somewhere.">$800 million</a>.

If you’re looking for a case study in how the mainstream media constructs a narrative out of thin air to protect their preferred ideological allies, look no further than CNN’s recent coverage of an attempted IED attack in New York City.
On Tuesday night, Abby Phillip and Ana Navarro didn&#8217;t just report the news; they performed a masterclass in obfuscation, deliberately mischaracterizing a terrorist act to frame it as a story of Muslim victimhood.
The facts, which CNN seemingly finds inconvenient, are these: two Pennsylvania teenagers, who reportedly pledged allegiance to ISIS, traveled to New York to detonate homemade bombs. Their target wasn&#8217;t a person, but a crowd of protesters. Yet, in the hands of Abby Phillip, this became an &#8220;attempted terror attack against New York’s Mayor Zohran Mamdani.&#8221;

By framing the attack as one directed at Mamdani — who identifies as Muslim — Phillip and Navarro attempted to pivot the conversation away from radical Islamic terrorism and toward their favorite hobby horse: Republican &#8220;bigotry.&#8221; Phillip used the false premise of an attack on Mamdani to grill guests about comments made by GOP Congressmen Andy Ogles and Randy Fine, effectively using a near-tragedy caused by ISIS sympathizers to scold Republicans for being mean.
Ana Navarro, never one to let a factual error get in the way of a partisan jab, doubled down on the lie. After she declared, “What I find ironic is, so supposedly some of these comments are as a result of the attempt against Mayor Mamdani in New York,” Republican Joe Borelli correctly pointed out that the attackers were targeting protesters, not Mamdani.
Navarro stubbornly insisted, &#8220;It was at his house,&#8221; as if proximity to a building constitutes a targeted assassination attempt. The goal was transparent: if they could convince the audience that Mamdani was the target, they could claim that any criticism of radicalism is actually an incitement to violence against Muslim officials.
Phillip offered an apology on Wednesday morning:

This gaslighting followed a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/see-it-cnn-quietly-deletes-tone-deaf-take-on-suspected-isis-terrorists?author=Virginia+Kruta&amp;category=undefined&amp;elementPosition=0&amp;row=3&amp;rowHeadline=Latest+News&amp;rowType=Vertical+Carousel&amp;title=SEE+IT%3A+CNN+Quietly+Deletes+Tone-Deaf+Take+On+Suspected+ISIS+Terrorists&amp;utm_source=chatgpt.com">humiliating retreat</a> by CNN earlier that day. The network had deleted a tweet that described the terrorists as &#8220;Pennsylvania teenagers&#8221; whose &#8220;lives would drastically change&#8221; after a &#8220;normal day&#8221; ended in arrests for throwing bombs. It was a pathetic attempt to infantilize ISIS-pledging terrorists, portraying them as wayward youths who stumbled into a felony.
Phillip and Navarro’s performance was a cynical attempt to gain sympathy for Mamdani by painting him as a target of the very radicalism the media spent all morning trying to downplay. It is a perfect circle of media dishonesty: first, humanize the terrorists; then, when that fails, lie about the target to cast your political opponents as the real villains.

CNN Hit With One-Two Punch In Single Day Over ISIS Bomb Plot Coverage

A New York City Police Department police chief who stopped a pair of ISIS-inspired men accused of trying to detonate a homemade bomb over the weekend credited his police instincts for inspiring his split-second reaction to the attempted terror attack.  
“When you see danger, you have that cop in you,” Chief Aaron Edwards <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/03/10/us-news/hero-nypd-chief-who-chased-down-bomb-suspects-breaks-silence-once-a-cop-always-a-cop/">told</a> the New York Post. “You react to it.”
On Saturday, Edwards helped detain 18-year-old Emir Balat and 19-year-old Ibrahim Kayumi after they allegedly attempted to set off multiple improvised explosive devices outside of Gracie Mansion, New York City’s official mayoral residence. Both men have been <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/everything-we-know-about-the-suspected-nyc-terrorists">charged federally</a> with terrorism and are believed to have been inspired by ISIS.
Edwards, 46, saw a device being lit on Saturday and said the only thing that went through his mind was stopping the threat. 
“Three things gotta happen right now — we’ve got to catch this person, we’ve got to get people away from this device, and we’ve got to secure this area,” he told The New York Post. “And we were able to do that.”
A photo of Edwards leaping over a fence to chase after Balat quickly went viral and was shared online by the New York City Police Department.

Leading up to that moment, Edwards said he was on patrol when a fellow officer tapped him on the shoulder and asked what Balat and Kayumi were doing. 
“And you know, we needed to just start running towards them. We’re giving commands, we’re making verbal commands,” he said. “We start running towards them and, you know, the rest you can see on video.”
“I don’t mind doing the work, get my hands dirty,” Edwards added. “So when this happens — and it happens rather quickly — it wasn’t a thought in my mind on the danger.”
While he was praised for quick action, Edwards said his wife had a different reaction to the viral photo of him jumping toward danger. 
“She has a screenshot of it, she has it circled. She puts it in caps — in big caps: ‘WRONG DIRECTION SIR,&#8217;” he said. 
Edwards was inspired to become a police officer in the aftermath of the September 11 terrorist attacks. He said he was ready to respond to danger at all times. 
“I always say, we’re all cops, right?” Edwards told the New York Post. “Regardless of rank, regardless of life, regardless of position, you’re a cop first. Once a cop, always a cop.&#8221;

Hero NYPD Chief Seen Chasing ISIS Terror Suspects Relives His Split-Second Decision

One of the suspects accused of throwing improvised explosive devices (IEDs) at protesters outside the New York City mayor’s residence purchased materials used in the attack just days beforehand at a Pennsylvania fireworks store, according to a report.
Emir Balat, 18, allegedly bought a roll of safety fuse at a Phantom Fireworks store in Penndel, Pennsylvania, on March 2, five days before the incident near Gracie Mansion, the official residence of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, according to surveillance video obtained by CBS News.
The footage reportedly shows Balat entering the store at 12:46 p.m. and purchasing a 20-foot roll of safety fuse for $6.89.
“Coming in and buying that was uneventful,” Phantom Fireworks Vice President and General Counsel William Weimer told <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/video-appears-to-show-gracie-mansion-bomb-suspect-purchasing-fuse-pennsylvania-fireworks-store/?ftag=CNM-00-10aab7e&amp;linkId=917775073">CBS News</a>. “Had he bought 20 rolls of fuse, it might have raised eyebrows. But buying one or two items of anything in this store is almost a nonevent.”

The FBI is investigating the attack as a potential act of terrorism. In a <a href="https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/two-isis-supporters-charged-attempting-detonate-explosive-devices-during-protests-outside">statement</a> on Monday, FBI Director Kash Patel said, “The defendants allegedly support ISIS and tried to follow the path of that deadly group by attempting to detonate explosive devices in a crowd. The FBI and our partners have no tolerance for terrorist organizations or those inspired by them to engage in attacks. We are committed to stopping acts of violence and will hold accountable those who seek to harm our citizens.”
The FBI contacted the company’s national security director on Monday, Weimer said.
Balat and Ibrahim Kayumi, 19, both residents of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, are accused of traveling to New York City on Saturday to participate in a counter-protest against an anti-Islam demonstration organized by influencer Jake Lang.
Video from the scene shows Balat throwing an ignited device toward police near the mayor’s residence. It has since been identified as an IED.
According to the <a href="https://apnews.com/article/explosives-protest-mamdani-434928cf6fa8771bc3dfa5c260ee7b03">Associated Press</a>, the first device struck a barrier and extinguished itself near officers. Balat allegedly ran away, retrieved a second device from Kayumi, lit it, and began running with it before dropping it.
Law enforcement sources told CBS News the devices consisted of sports-drink bottles containing explosive material placed inside glass jars and packed with fragmentation such as nuts and bolts.
The investigation has expanded beyond the initial attack, with law enforcement probing whether additional explosive materials were staged near the scene.

Officials later determined the device did not pose an immediate threat, but investigators said the discovery underscored the seriousness of the incident and the possibility that additional materials tied to the suspects could still be uncovered.
Authorities have also uncovered additional evidence linked to the two suspects in Pennsylvania. Prosecutors said Balat later told police he was inspired by ISIS and wanted the attack to be “even bigger” than the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013. Balat and Kayumi have been charged with five counts related to terrorism and possession of explosive materials. Federal prosecutors say an indictment is expected.
