EL PASO, TEXAS - MAY 09: As seen from an aerial view, immigrants wait to be processed to make asylum claims after crossing the Rio Grande (L)from Mexico on May 09, 2023 in El Paso, Texas. A surge of immigrants is expected with the end of the U.S. government's Covid-era Title 42 policy, which for the past three years has allowed for the quick expulsion of irregular migrants entering the country.

A union leader representing U.S. Border Patrol agents slammed the Biden administration on Tuesday, saying that the administration didn’t want the ongoing crisis at the southern border to end.

National Border Patrol Council President Brandon Judd said in an interview with Fox News that the issue at the border is not financial, but policy-related.

“We could stop this tomorrow. We don’t need more money. We don’t need to throw more money at NGOs. We do not need the taxpayer to shoulder this burden. All we have to do is put proper policies in place,” Judd said. “If we went back to policies like Remain in Mexico, this would end tomorrow. But they don’t want it to end.”

Judd added that he believed that the Biden administration was staffed by “activists,” and not people concerned with law and order.

“Look at all of the political appointees that are in the West Wing. They come from activist backgrounds. Look at DHS, the political appointees in DHS. They come from activist backgrounds. They do not come from serious backgrounds that want to do right by the American people,” he said.

Judd’s comments come as Title 42, a Trump-era health order that has allowed border agents to immediately expel illegal aliens from the country, will expire on May 11. A surge is expected following Title 42’s end, with some reports estimating that up to 700,000 people are waiting in Mexico to take advantage of the policy’s end.

Videos from the border show long lines of individuals, including many young men, waiting to be processed and crossing into the U.S.

President Joe Biden said on Tuesday that he expected the situation to be “chaotic” and said he did not know if the U.S. would be able to handle it.

“I spent close to an hour with the Mexican president today. We’re doing all we can. The answer is it remains to be seen,” Biden said when asked whether officials were ready for the large number of people expected to try to gain entry into the U.S.

“We’ve gotten overwhelming cooperation from Mexico. We also are in the process of setting up offices in Colombia and other places where you could – or someone seeking asylum can go first. So, it remains to be seen. It’s going to be chaotic for a while,” Biden added.

Biden is reportedly sending 24,000 law enforcement officers and 1,100 processing coordinators, and 1000 asylum interviews to handle the influx.
