Federal immigration agents working during the shutdown will get a paycheck.
Agents from both Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Border Patrol will start to receive their paychecks again and get back pay for the time they&#8217;ve worked since the shutdown began, multiple agency sources told The Daily Wire.
In a message from the National Border Patrol Council, the agency&#8217;s union, some agents were informed this week that their payday is coming.
&#8220;This is unprecedented and is due to the hard work of all federal law enforcement officers and the continued support of President Trump and his administration,&#8221; NBPC President Paul Perez wrote in the email.
Border agents also &#8220;may receive &#8216;accelerated&#8217; pay&#8221; for their next paycheck, according to the memo.
The government <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/live-updates-countdown-to-government-shutdown?contentProgram=SHUTDOWN%20UPDATES%3A%20Firings%20Begin%2C%20Trump%20Vows%20To%20Protect%20Military%20Pay&amp;contentType=Post&amp;elementPosition=5&amp;location=Home%20Tab&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Home%20Featured%20Carousel">shutdown</a> entered its 16th day on Thursday. Another vote to reopen the government is scheduled, but is expected to fail again.
Democrats in Congress are asking to negotiate on healthcare, while Republicans are demanding that the government be reopened before any further talks proceed.
With no end to the shutdown in sight, Border Patrol sources expressed relief at the news they&#8217;ll get paid.
Some of those agents are patrolling not only the southern and northern borders, but have also been deployed to cities like Chicago to assist ICE with President Donald Trump&#8217;s immigration enforcement efforts.
The Department of Homeland Security said federal agents in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/mexican-cartels-place-bounties-on-federal-agents-in-chicago?author=Jennie+Taer&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=5&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Mexican+Cartels+Place+Bounties+On+Federal+Agents+In+Chicago">Chicago</a> are up against mounting threats to their lives, including bounties amounting to up to $50,000 that have been placed on their heads by local gangs and the Mexican cartels.
Those agents are taking a sigh of relief knowing they&#8217;ll get paid for their work.
&#8220;It&#8217;s a huge boost for us that this government has our backs, especially after all the stress the last administration put us through. We have been through shutdowns before, and we still come to work with pride, but I&#8217;m thankful to know we don&#8217;t have to deal with the stress of wondering how long it will be until we get paid again,&#8221; one agent told The Daily Wire.
&#8220;Getting pelted with rocks by Antifa really sucks, but it&#8217;s even worse when you&#8217;re not getting paid,&#8221; said another agent.

The United States has reportedly started to share intelligence on Russian energy infrastructure with Ukraine, increasing Ukraine’s ability to strike deep inside Russian territory.
Trump pushes Putin: The U.S. president has made clear in recent months that he sees Russian President Vladimir Putin as the main obstacle to peace in the Ukraine war. The president is reportedly considering additional sanctions on Russia to increase pressure on Putin to negotiate.

Topline: Two weeks into a Democrat shutdown, and now federal employees are starting to feel the effects. On Wednesday, military personnel were set to miss their first paychecks, but President Trump ordered War Secretary Pete Hegseth to find a way to keep the troops paid.
Morning Wire spoke with Rep. August Pfluger (R-TX), chairman of the Republican Study Committee. (The following transcript has been lightly edited for clarity.)
Morning Wire: Now we&#8217;ve crossed one of the first thresholds for missed pay of this shutdown. There were fears that the military would miss a paycheck this week, but then Trump intervened. How did that go down? 
Pfluger: As a veteran and as somebody who served for over 20 years, this is personal to me because I saw it firsthand during previous shutdowns, where you had especially the junior enlisted personnel, those with families and young kids, some of them on food stamps. This puts them in a terrible position, and commanders, instead of focusing on the mission and the threat, readiness and lethality now have to focus on how are their men and women in uniform going to put food on the table? Thankfully, Donald Trump and Pete Hegseth came up with a plan to pay the troops and that is happening mid-month. But it doesn&#8217;t last forever, so if Democrats keep up their shenanigans and keep up the shameful approach that they&#8217;re using and showing why they don&#8217;t really like the military, then I&#8217;m not sure that they&#8217;re going to get a paycheck on the next pay period.
Morning Wire: To be clear – they managed to pay everyone this time, but this isn&#8217;t something that can continue for weeks. 
Pfluger: Yeah, they&#8217;re pulling money out of other areas. I mean, the money that they&#8217;re using to pay the troops was probably intended to go to operations or readiness or things like that. It was not the bucket that Congress appropriated for military pay, personnel pay, so this isn&#8217;t going to last forever.
Morning Wire: Is there any way that Congress could ensure going forward that this doesn&#8217;t happen again, particularly with the military? Can we put in place emergency measures for how government shutdowns affect military members?
Pfluger: I sure hope so. I think there&#8217;s an appetite for that. And I&#8217;d go a step further. I would include Border Patrol. I would include law enforcement, federal law enforcement, all the agencies that are charged with keeping us safe, national security level agencies. I&#8217;d go a step further on that. But let me just say this. Where are my Democrat colleagues on the other side of the aisle who served in uniform? Where are they right now? Why are they not standing up and taking the stand and saying enough is enough? … I&#8217;d like to see a country where we come back together and we unite and do the right thing. I thought that was going to happen after the assassination of Charlie Kirk, and, obviously, it hasn’t.

Topline: Federal immigration agents carrying out President Trump&#8217;s immigration enforcement efforts in Chicago are facing mounting threats stemming from drug cartels in Mexico, according to the Department of Homeland Security. 
Intelligence on threats is coming into federal immigration agencies daily, an agent on the ground in Chicago told The Daily Wire. Mexican drug cartels are recruiting and operating within the city of Chicago to go after ICE and Border Patrol agents. 
DHS says cartels are offering up to $50,000 in bounties for the heads of federal officers. On top of that, they are recruiting leftist, anti-ICE agitators who have already been out in the streets, and they’re asking them to help.
According to DHS, cartels are placing armed spotters on top of rooftops in areas where ICE agents are making arrests, and the spotters mark the coordinates of ICE officers and Border Patrol agents and relay their whereabouts.
The threats: The latest allegedly involved a Latin Kings gang member. A leader of that gang was nabbed by the federal authorities in Chicago. He is accused of placing a bounty on the head of Operation Midway Blitz, Chief Gregory Bovino.
On Tuesday, Border Patrol agents were rammed by an illegal alien driver who also had an illegal alien passenger in his car. That brought an anti-ICE riot mob to one of the quiet neighborhoods in Chicago.
The riot forced federal authorities to deploy tear gas. Federal officials were targeted with rocks and other objects.

Dozens of rioters hurled rocks and formed a mob against federal agents who just faced a ramming attack from an illegal immigrant suspect, according to reports.
Border Patrol agents were attempting to detain an illegal immigrant suspect who hit their vehicle and then tried to flee, sparking a car chase, <a href="https://wgntv.com/news/chicago-news/skycam9-over-law-enforcement-activity-on-east-side/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to WGN9. Demonstrators caught wind of the presence of federal agents and soon gathered, with some throwing rocks and bottles at authorities.
Authorities then deployed tear gas to break up the group.
“This morning while conducting an immigration enforcement operation in Chicago, a vehicle, driven by an illegal alien, rammed a Border Patrol vehicle and attempted to flee the scene. Border Patrol pursued the vehicle and was eventually able to stop it utilizing an authorized precision immobilization technique (PIT) maneuver. Once the vehicle was stopped, the suspects, who are both illegal aliens, attempted to flee on foot. As Border Patrol arrested the subjects and attempted to secure the scene, a crowd began to form and eventually turned hostile and eventually crowd control measures were used,&#8221; the Department of Homeland Security said in a statement regarding the incident.
&#8220;This incident is not isolated and reflects a growing and dangerous trend of illegal aliens violently resisting arrest and agitators and criminals ramming cars into our law enforcement officers. The fact that this attack was carried out by two illegal immigrants highlights the need for federal law enforcement to continue to do their job of enforcing the laws of our nation — all while receiving no pay thanks to the Democrats’ government shutdown,&#8221; DHS said.
Chicago Police responded to the scene after receiving a call of a vehicle collision &#8220;involving federal agents,&#8221; the department said in a statement.

“CPD was not involved in any of the federal operations occurring at that location. Upon arrival to the scene, officers documented the traffic crash. Because this incident involved federal authorities, additional CPD supervisors responded to the scene to ensure the appropriate course of action was taken.&#8221;
&#8220;A crowd began to form and as federal authorities were leaving the scene, CPD members attempted to de-escalate the situation for the safety of everyone, including community members who were gathering at the location. Individuals then began throwing objects at the federal agents, at which point the federal agents deployed tear gas into the street. Thirteen CPD members were exposed to the tear gas. Exposure reports will be completed for all CPD members who were exposed to the tear gas.&#8221;
As the Trump administration targets illegal immigrants roaming Illinois, federal agents are facing an uptick in attacks and threats.
On Tuesday, DHS <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/mexican-cartels-place-bounties-on-federal-agents-in-chicago?author=Jennie+Taer&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=0&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Mexican+Cartels+Place+Bounties+On+Federal+Agents+In+Chicago">revealed</a> that cartels in Mexico were placing bounties on the heads of ICE and Border Patrol agents patrolling the Windy City.
Armed gang “spotters” have also been deployed to rooftops in Chicago’s Pilsen and Little Village neighborhoods to track the movements of federal agents.
The Trump administration attempted to deploy hundreds of National Guard troops to the region, but a judge held up the effort after the State of Illinois sued to stop it. The case is still pending.

Humanitarian aid is flowing into the warzone after Israeli forces pulled back from the interior of Gaza for the ceasefire. According to Trump, Gazans will be assisted in the rebuilding of the enclave by foreign money and manpower, with much of it coming from Arab and Muslim countries.

Morning Wire spoke to Miranda Devine, a columnist at the New York Post and host of the Podforce One podcast, for more on this story. (The following transcript has been lightly edited for clarity.)
Morning Wire: We just had news break from the New York Post that Mamdani&#8217;s mayoral campaign took in potentially $13,000 in illegal foreign donations. What are the implications of this? Do you think Mamdani will be held to account – or will this affect the race at all?
Devine: I doubt very much. I mean, Democrats all over the country have been caught red-handed doing all sorts of nefarious things or threatening to murder their Republican foes and nothing happens to them – unless the federal government, the DOJ, perhaps under Pam Bondi, is ballsy enough to actually charge him. There have been plenty of other politicians, particularly on the Republican side, who&#8217;ve gotten into trouble and been charged and even indicted and convicted of this kind of foreign fraud or election fraud. I don&#8217;t see why Mamdani would be any different. On the other hand, we had Donald Trump indicted and charged last year during his campaign – and there&#8217;s something on the nose about, you know, three weeks before an election, about intervening in a sort of illegal sense, which I think would backfire in New York, which is 70 percent Democrat.
Morning Wire: Right, so that might actually work to Mamdani&#8217;s advantage if Bondi continues to be aggressive, as she has been on the national stage. We&#8217;ve also just seen Mamdani&#8217;s wife on social media openly mourn the death of a Palestinian influencer – a man referred to as “Mr. FAFO,” who celebrated the October 7th terror attacks.
Devine: Yes, look, I mean, repellent, but not surprising. This is an influencer who is a Hamas guy. He&#8217;s a Hamas fan. For Mamdani&#8217;s wife to be openly celebrating him on social media just shows how clueless they both are about the optics – in a very Jewish city – of celebrating the murderers of so many Jews on October 7. And particularly at this time when the hostages are coming back, when Donald Trump has managed to pull off this immense peace deal. It seemed churlish and sort of yesterday. She&#8217;s operating on a yesterday view. And it really shows you how he and his entire family are so unsuitable for any kind of leadership role, let alone in America&#8217;s greatest city.
Morning Wire: What do you expect in the next few weeks in this race? Are there any signs of Sliwa dropping out, or any movement for Cuomo – or does Mamdani have this wrapped up?
Devine: Cuomo has surged in the polls most recently, and that&#8217;s because he&#8217;s benefited almost entirely from Eric Adams dropping out. Eric Adams was at the bottom of the pile, not doing well at all. Curtis Sliwa is at 15%. In a very Democrat city, he really hasn&#8217;t managed to make a mark. And, you know, there&#8217;s a lot of push for him to pull out, so that it&#8217;s just a Cuomo versus Mamdani race. Cuomo is now at about 33%, Mamdani is at 46%. With Sliwa in the race, there&#8217;s really no hope. Cuomo, he’s starting to up his game a little bit. There are a few ads that are coming out. Mamdani is being booed and heckled wherever he goes. It&#8217;s been noted that he has a vast security force around him. … He&#8217;s such a smiling sort of Teflon candidate and Cuomo is battered and bruised and has enormous amounts of baggage he&#8217;s lugging around from his governorship. And yet, now Mamdani is starting to have some of the gloss come off him. And look, it&#8217;s really up to Cuomo in the next three weeks. Is he going to be able to convince Sliwa to drop out? Topline: President Trump says the deployments are needed to protect federal property and crush violent unrest in Chicago and Portland, but the efforts have been held up in the courts due to ongoing lawsuits.
The Trump administration is facing expected pushback from the sanctuary states of Illinois and Oregon, which don’t believe President Trump can federalize state National Guard from their own states, or from other states such as Texas and California, to come in amid a rise in anti-ICE demonstrations, some of which have turned violent.
Although judges in these cases say troops must stand down for now, the Trump administration is finding more ways to expand manpower in these areas. That includes continuing to pull Border Patrol agents from the border and ICE agents from other offices in other states.
The Trump administration is still pushing for National Guard deployments amid a 1,000% uptick in assaults on immigration agents. In the meantime, additional ICE officers and Border Patrol agents are deployed in Portland and Chicago to provide security, conduct immigration raids, and work in detention centers to process new detainees.
Missing children: President Trump inherited a massive crisis of lost alien children from the Biden administration.
John Fabbricatore is leading the Trump administration’s effort at Health and Human Services (HHS) to find the more than 320,000 migrant kids who crossed the border without parents and went unaccounted for under former President Joe Biden.
Some of these children were never even given court dates for their immigration cases, and others never showed. When children cross the border unaccompanied, they are sent to HHS, which is tasked with connecting them with their sponsor in the United States.
However, under Biden, HHS was vetting these sponsors with a phone call and a photo. As a result, many of these children ended up being trafficked and in very inhumane conditions.
Fabbricatore told The Daily Wire that the Trump administration is prioritizing not only finding these children, but also fixing the vetting system that allowed this tragedy to unfold. That means making changes to the system inherited from former President Biden.
The Trump administration requires sponsors and other adults living with them to submit their fingerprints to undergo background checks. Additionally, sponsors are required to submit proof of income to show they can support the child. Sponsors who claim they are related to the child will also undergo DNA testing.
Homeland Security agents also meet with the sponsor, and HHS officials visit the home to ensure it’s a safe place for the child. Migrants 14 or older can opt to leave with the help of the federal government, which will assist them in reconnecting with their families back home by offering flights and a $2,500 stipend. All of this is voluntary and has to be approved by an immigration judge.

President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that Chicago Democratic Mayor Brandon Johnson and Illinois Democratic Governor JB Pritzker should be thrown in jail &#8220;for failing to protect ICE officers&#8221; as Trump&#8217;s immigration enforcement operation in the Windy City continues to face opposition from state and local leaders.

Johnson and Pritzker have pushed back against Trump&#8217;s efforts in Chicago and have also condemned the president&#8217;s move to deploy hundreds of National Guard troops to the city. On Sunday, Pritzker <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/10/05/us/politics/pritzker-chicago-immigration.html">responded</a> to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem&#8217;s description of Chicago as a &#8220;war zone,&#8221; accusing the Trump administration of &#8220;making it a war zone.&#8221;
&#8220;They need to get out of Chicago if they’re not going to focus on the worst of the worst, which is what the president said they were going to do,&#8221; Pritzker added.
After Pritzker refused Trump&#8217;s request to deploy Illinois National Guard troops to Chicago, Texas National Guard troops arrived in Illinois earlier this week, ABC News <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/US/texas-national-guard-headed-illinois-gov-pritzker-calls/story?id=126283676">reported</a>.
Mayor Johnson also took a step on Monday to impede ICE&#8217;s operations in the city, signing an executive order that creates “ICE-free zones,&#8221; The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/chicago-mayor-brandon-johnson-signs-executive-order-establishing-ice-free-zones">reported</a>.
“The order establishes ICE-free zones. That means that city property and unwilling private businesses will no longer serve as staging grounds for these raids,” Johnson <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/chicago-mayor-brandon-johnson-signs-executive-order-establishing-ice-free-zones">said</a>.
Trump&#8217;s “Operation Midway Blitz,” a massive federal effort to crack down on violent crime and detain illegal immigrants that began last month, has resulted in more than 1,000 arrests in Chicago. The operation, however, has been met with fierce and sometimes violent opposition.

Over the weekend, federal immigration agents driving in Chicago were <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/armed-attack-on-ice-agents-unfolds-in-chicago-pritzker-rails-against-trump">rammed</a> and surrounded by 10 vehicles in an area where anti-ICE protesters had taken to the streets. One of the drivers accused of ramming into the agents&#8217; vehicles &#8220;was armed with a semi-automatic weapon,&#8221; according to Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin.
The federal agents fired at the armed agitator, &#8220;who drove herself to the hospital to get care for her wounds,&#8221; McLaughlin said. The armed suspect, identified as 40-year-old Marimar Martinez, was on Border Patrol&#8217;s radar after she allegedly doxxed federal agents and threatened to &#8220;f*** those mother f***ers up.&#8221; After Martinez was released from the hospital, she was taken into FBI custody, according to the DHS.
No federal agents were injured in the apparent attack, according to McLaughlin, who also accused the Chicago Police Department of refusing to assist federal law enforcement &#8220;in securing the area.&#8221; According to internal dispatch obtained by <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/chicago-police-sources-blast-departments-response-after-officers-were-told-not-help-fed-agents-cover-a">Fox News</a>, Chicago Police Department officers were told by their chief of patrol not to respond to the incident.
&#8220;PLEASE CHIEF OF PATROL NO UNITS WILL RESPOND TO THIS AS RELATED FROM 04-Oc5-2025/12:34:44…CALLER IS 1 OF APPROX 30 ARMED PATROL AGENTS (ICE) WHO ARE BEING SURROUNDED BY A LARGE CROWD OF PEOPLE REQUESTING CPD,&#8221; a dispatch message said.
The police department responded to the report, claiming that officers were on the scene &#8220;to maintain public safety.&#8221;
&#8220;To clarify misinformation currently circulating, CPD officers did in fact respond to the shooting scene involving federal authorities on Saturday to maintain public safety and traffic control,&#8221; the department said.
&#8220;The Chicago Police Department will always respond to anyone who is being attacked or is under the threat of physical harm,&#8221; the department added. &#8220;For incidents involving federal immigration enforcement, CPD supervisors will respond to the scene and determine the appropriate course of action in accordance with City law.&#8221;
Fox News, however, quoted &#8220;two senior Chicago police sources&#8221; who said that the Chicago Police Department&#8217;s statement is &#8220;not true.&#8221;
The ramming over the weekend was not the first time that federal immigration officers were targeted with vehicles in the Chicago area. Topline: Israel’s two-year war in Gaza may be nearing an end after a U.S.-backed peace proposal won widespread backing across the Middle East.
Negotiators are meeting in Egypt this week to hammer out the details of the peace framework presented by President Trump. Already, there are splits. Hamas has agreed to release all hostages, but it hasn’t agreed to the three-day timeline, nor has it agreed to demilitarize or swear off any future involvement in Gaza’s governance.
President Trump is optimistic, however. He’s seemingly viewed Hamas’ willingness to have a discussion as a win.
A look back: In 2023, Saudi Arabia was on the verge of joining the Abraham Accords and normalizing relations with Israel. To Hamas, that would have been a disaster – it needs Israel isolated. At the same time, Israel was roiled by judicial reform – there were massive protests in the streets. Israeli society seemed to be torn apart.

Hamas sensed weakness, and it needed to break up Arab-Israeli relations, so it attacked. As an Iranian proxy, it received help from Iran and its massive network of terror groups. Hezbollah in Lebanon had tens of thousands of rockets and missiles. In Israel, Hamas was viewed as a threat, but the threat from Hezbollah was considered potentially existential.
The Houthis in Yemen threatened Israel and international shipping. Then there was Iran itself. Tehran is the largest state-sponsor of terrorism in the world, and prior to October 7, it had used its web of terror groups to surround Israel.
October 7, two years later: That web now has serious holes. Israel is in a much stronger position in the Middle East. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made that point in an <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/episode/ben-interviews-netanyahu?elementPosition=3&amp;row=2&amp;rowHeadline=Latest+Episodes&amp;rowType=Horizontal+Show+Episodes+Carousel">interview</a> with The Daily Wire’s Ben Shapiro on Monday:

Israel&#8217;s support slipping: Support for Israel is fading in the West. Canada, the U.K., and France have all recently recognized the nonexistent state of Palestine, which Trump has described as a reward for terrorism.
Polling in the United States suggests some bad trends for Israel. According to a Washington Post <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2025/10/06/jewish-americans-israel-poll-gaza/">poll</a> conducted last month, support among American Jews has taken some hits. The share who believe the United States supports Israel too much has risen to 32%—a 10-point increase since 2020 and a 21-point increase since 2013. Within the Democratic Party, support for the Palestinian cause has become something of a litmus test among progressives. Meanwhile, some voices on the Republican side question whether strong backing for Israel aligns with an “America First” philosophy.

Topline: Violent assaults against federal immigration authorities continue in Illinois, and the Trump administration has responded by sending hundreds of Texas National Guard troops to Chicago. 
Much of Trump’s effort to activate National Guard troops to protect federal immigration enforcement is in legal limbo. 
Homeland Security officials told The Daily Wire that they&#8217;re not going to let up on the mass deportation effort amid the ongoing assaults against immigration officers. 
Since Trump has taken office, there has been a 1,000% increase in assaults on ICE agents. Around Chicago in particular, leftist agitators have made a number of egregious assaults on the ICE detention center in Broadview, Illinois, and on ICE and Border Patrol agents who have been deployed to assist in these efforts.
Illinois against ICE: The state of Illinois has sued over the deployment of National Guard troops to the state. It says that the move by the Trump administration is unconstitutional and an invasion.
Chicago Democratic Mayor Brandon Johnson is creating “ICE-free zones” in city buildings where he says that ICE and Border Patrol cannot go. He has also called on local businesses to participate, as well, to shield illegal aliens who are roaming the streets.
At the same time, there are more places for illegal aliens to run and hide, ICE and federal law enforcement sources tell The Daily Wire.
ICE ambushed: Over the weekend, several vehicles allegedly rammed into and boxed in federal immigration agents in Chicago during a protest confrontation.
A U.S. citizen woman, who authorities say was armed with a semi-automatic weapon and previously accused of doxxing agents, was shot by Border Patrol after agents said they were boxed in.
Trump administration officials have characterized the incident as part of a broader pattern, arguing that National Guard deployments may be necessary in cities where local enforcement is perceived as unwilling to protect federal agents.
Deportation operation: The Trump administration&#8217;s operations, and the surrounding areas of Chicago, have already yielded 1,000 arrests since early September. In the case of “ICE-free zones,” officials may pursue Chicago and Mayor Johnson for violations of federal law in harboring illegal aliens.

Topline: A political firestorm is raging in Virginia over text messages that show Democratic attorney general nominee Jay Jones fantasizing about killing a GOP colleague. 
The controversy centers on messages sent in August 2022 from then-former Delegate Jay Jones to Republican Delegate Carrie Coyner. In those messages, first obtained by National Review, Jones fantasized about murdering then-House Speaker Todd Gilbert, a Republican:
<blockquote>Three people, two bullets. Gilbert, Hitler, and Pol Pot. Gilbert gets two bullets to the head.
Spoiler: put Gilbert in the crew with the two worst people you know and he receives both bullets every time.</blockquote>
When Coyner asked Jones to stop and suggested his remarks weren’t acceptable, Jones continued, even referencing Gilbert’s children. Coyner said, “You were talking about hoping Jennifer Gilbert’s children would die,” and Jones didn’t deny it. Instead, he replied, “I’ve told you this before. Only when people feel pain personally do they move on policy.” 
Then he said, “Do I think Todd and Jennifer are evil and they’re breeding little fascists? Yes.”
He also fantasized about attending the funerals of other Republican lawmakers, saying he would “piss on their graves” and “send them out awash in something.”
Jones has now apologized, saying, “Reading back those words made him sick to his stomach.” He insists he’s staying in the race and has blamed “Trump-controlled media” for turning the text messages into a story.
Republicans react: There’s been a chorus of voices demanding that Jones exit the race. Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears, who is running for governor, and Attorney General Jason Miyares, Jones’ opponent, say the texts are disqualifying. President Trump also said he needs to go. And Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin described the comments as “demented.” 
Democrats react: But while some Democrats are condemning the remarks, we’re not yet hearing any calls for Jones to drop out. Jones’ running mate, Abigail Spanberger, said she spoke “frankly” with him and expressed her “disgust,” but won&#8217;t call for him to quit. 
Political fallout: Coming in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s assassination, political analysts are saying Jones&#8217; messages are likely to be a significant liability. Early voting has increased by 20% this week, according to state data. Internal GOP tracking shows the race tightening to a dead heat, with undecideds – about 39% of voters who barely know Jones – swinging hard against him.

The FBI arrested two individuals on Saturday after they allegedly rammed their vehicles into a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) vehicle in Chicago, triggering a shooting.
Marimar Martinez, 31, and Anthony Ian Santos, 21, were charged Sunday after federal authorities said they struck and boxed in a CBP vehicle to prevent it from escaping. Both were charged with forcibly assaulting, impeding, and interfering with a federal law enforcement officer.
The incident occurred on Saturday morning as three CBP agents, driving a silver Chevrolet Tahoe, were acting as a mobile security detail for an immigration enforcement operation near southwest Chicago. While working the operation, a “convoy of civilian vehicles” started following them, <a href="https://www.justice.gov/usao-ndil/media/1415966/dl?inline=">according</a> to a criminal complaint.  
Those vehicles ran red lights, blew by stop signs, and broke traffic laws to follow the Border Patrol vehicle. The complaint added that Martinez could be heard referring to those in the Border Patrol vehicle as &#8220;la migra,&#8221; which is derogatory slang for immigration enforcement officers. 

“The convoy of civilian vehicles followed the BPAs closely and pursued the BPAs aggressively, culminating in MARTINEZ, in the Martinez Vehicle, and RUIZ, in the Ruiz Vehicle, driving into and striking the CBP Vehicle on both the driver’s and passenger’s side, respectively, leading to a temporary loss of control of the CBP Vehicle. In addition, once the CBP Vehicle had stopped and the BPAs exited the CBP Vehicle, MARTINEZ drove the Martinez Vehicle at BPA 1,” the complaint said. 
After being struck and boxed in by the vehicles, one of the Border Patrol agents exited the Tahoe and fired five shots at the car driven by Martinez, the complaint said. The two vehicles then fled the scene. 
Martinez was arrested at a repair shop and taken to a hospital to be treated for gunshot wounds, while Ruiz was arrested at a gas station. 
FBI Director Kash Patel announced the arrests on Sunday. 
“Attack our law enforcement, and this FBI will find you and bring you to justice,” Patel <a href="https://x.com/FBIDirectorKash/status/1975001981828931752">wrote</a> on X.

In the first instance, Miguel Escareno De Loera, an illegal alien from Mexico, rammed his car into an ICE vehicle twice before jumping a curb and crashing into a stop in Norridge, Illinois, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

The Supreme Court ruled on Monday that the Trump administration can arrest anyone it suspects of being in the United States illegally, lifting a U.S. District Court judge&#8217;s order barring immigration agents from conducting &#8220;roving patrols.&#8221;
In a 6-3 decision, the Supreme Court said that immigration officers have the right to detain people for questioning if they are suspected of being an illegal immigrant, The Los Angeles Times <a href="https://www.latimes.com/politics/story/2025-09-08/supreme-court-immigration-stops-los-angeles">reported</a>. Justice Brett Kavanaugh, a Trump appointee, wrote a 10-page opinion explaining the high court&#8217;s decision, saying that immigration officers have a reasonable and legal basis to detain suspected illegal immigrants in Los Angeles based on the “totality of the circumstances.&#8221;
&#8220;Here, those circumstances include: that there is an extremely high number and percentage of illegal immigrants in the Los Angeles area; that those individuals tend to gather in certain locations to seek daily work; that those individuals often work in certain kinds of jobs, such as day labor, landscaping, agriculture, and construction, that do not require paperwork and are therefore especially attractive to illegal immigrants; and that many of those illegally in the Los Angeles area come from Mexico or Central America and do not speak much English,&#8221; Kavanaugh added.
The Department of Homeland Security said last week that over 5,000 immigration arrests have been made in the &#8220;Los Angeles region&#8221; since June 6, the Associated Press <a href="https://apnews.com/article/supreme-court-immigration-stops-los-angeles-trump-57cc1f85ceafda0f11052b326c8b7173">reported</a>. Gregory Bovino, the chief Border Patrol agent in charge of the L.A. operation, said that the Trump administration has been successful &#8220;in getting the worst of the worst out&#8221; of the area. Much of the immigration crackdown in the L.A. area has focused on arresting suspected illegal immigrants in Home Depot parking lots, at car washes, and at farms. Immigration agents have also nabbed people while they were on the street and in their vehicles.
On July 11, U.S. District Judge Maame Ewusi-Mensah Frimpong issued a temporary restraining order that stopped Trump&#8217;s immigration agents from detaining suspected illegal immigrants over their race, ethnicity, language, location, or employment, the Times reported. Two weeks later, the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals agreed with the district judge&#8217;s ruling.
In an appeal to the Supreme Court, Trump Solicitor Gen. D. John Sauer argued, &#8220;Reasonable suspicion is a low bar — well below probable cause.&#8221; Sauer said that immigration agents can look at &#8220;the totality of circumstances&#8221; to detain someone suspected of entering the country illegally, adding that “illegal presence is widespread in the Central District [of California], where 1 in every 10 people is an illegal alien.”
Liberal Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor dissented from the majority ruling, arguing that Kavanaugh&#8217;s conclusions are incorrect.
“Immigration agents are not conducting ‘brief stops for questioning,’ as the concurrence would like to believe. They are seizing people using firearms, physical violence, and warehouse detentions,” she wrote. “Nor are undocumented immigrants the only ones harmed by the Government’s conduct. United States citizens are also being seized, taken from their jobs, and prevented from working to support themselves and their families.”

IRVING, Texas — Border czar Tom Homan said Friday night that he was “amazed” at how quickly the Trump administration was able to secure the southern border.
Speaking at the second annual State Freedom Caucus Summit near Dallas, Homan said illegal immigration was down 96% under President Donald Trump. Homan told the state lawmakers gathered at the conference that “even I am amazed” at how quickly the administration was able to shut down illegal immigration.
“We have the most secure border in the history of this nation,” Homan said. “The men and women of Border Patrol secured that border in seven weeks. … God bless the men and women of Border Patrol.”
Attendees of the summit include Republican lawmakers from across the country who are members of state level Freedom Caucus organizations, which are coalitions of lawmakers who push for conservative governance and legislation. The summit was organized by the State Freedom Caucus Foundation.
Inspired by the House Freedom Caucus, the State Freedom Caucus Network was founded in 2021 with the goal of creating state level organizations of conservative lawmakers and equipping them with “the high-level staff, strategy, and community conservatives need to take ground across the country.”
In a roughly 45 minute speech, Homan recounted Trump recruiting him to come back into his administration for a second time after four years of President Joe Biden allowing a record number of illegal aliens to cross into the United States. Homan said that he woke up every day during the Biden administration “pissed off” at what was happening at the border.
Homan said it was &#8220;bulls***&#8221; that the Biden administration was considered humane because of its lax border policies. He choked up talking about the number of girls who were raped and innocent people killed during human smuggling runs that exploded under Biden.
Homan added that he believed one reason Biden was so lax was because his administration believed most illegal aliens would be future Democrat voters.
“They sold this country out for future political power, and in my opinion, that is treasonous,” he said.
Commenting on resistance to the Trump administration by Democrats like Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, Homan said that they hated Trump more than they loved their own communities.
During his speech, Homan also promised that the Trump administration would go after the Latin American drug cartels that have flooded the United States with drugs.
“They’ve killed more Americans than every terrorist organization in the world. They’ve killed more Americans than any war that we’ve ever had,” Homan said. “And mark my word, President Trump will wipe them off the face of the earth.”
Homan’s comments came after the U.S. military took out a drug trafficking boat coming from Venezuela earlier this week. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the United States would continue to carry out similar operations.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection parked a Penske rental truck in a Los Angeles Home Depot parking lot on Wednesday morning, before the back door of the truck rolled open and numerous agents poured out, chasing down suspected illegal immigrants.
The undercover raid, referred to by U.S. Border Patrol Sector Chief Greg Bovino as &#8220;Operation Trojan Horse,&#8221; resulted in 16 arrests, The Los Angeles Times <a href="https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2025-08-06/more-raids-home-depot-in-macarthur-park-raided">reported</a>. The roundup focused on the Home Depot in Westlake, an area of L.A. that the Department of Homeland Security says is overrun by illegal immigrants linked to MS-13, Matt Finn of Fox News reported. DHS did not say if anyone arrested in the Home Depot parking lot on Wednesday was an MS-13 member.

The arrests come shortly after over 1,000 National Guard troops left the area following the riots that broke out in L.A. in response to President Donald Trump&#8217;s crackdown on illegal immigrants. Acting U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli <a href="https://x.com/USAttyEssayli/status/1953117322333348006">commented</a> on Wednesday&#8217;s &#8220;Trojan Horse&#8221; immigration raid, writing on X, &#8220;For those who thought immigration enforcement had stopped in Southern California, think again. The enforcement of federal law is not negotiable, and there are no sanctuaries from the reach of the federal government.&#8221;
Penske released a statement on Customs and Border Protection using one of its trucks in the raid. The company said it was not aware that one of its trucks &#8220;would be used in today&#8217;s operation and did not authorize this.&#8221;
&#8220;Penske will reach out to DHS and reinforce its policy to avoid improper use of its vehicles in the future,&#8221; the company added.

Social media users, including the DHS, pointed out that Penske quickly released a statement condemning the Trump administration&#8217;s use of its vehicles for immigration enforcement, but when human smugglers were <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/border-agents-find-58-migrants-crammed-penske-truck-alleged-human-smuggling">caught</a> using a Penske truck to transport 58 migrants to the United States in 2023, the company was silent.

Feds Use Penske Truck As ‘Trojan Horse’ To Arrest Suspected Illegal Immigrants At L.A. Home Depot

WASHINGTON — The Department of Homeland Security has arrested two MS-13 gang leaders wanted in El Salvador for violent crimes that include murder, drug trafficking, and gang conspiracy.
One of these gang leaders, The Daily Wire can exclusively report, is Rene Escobar-Ochoa, arrested on July 9 during a coordinated enforcement operation in Omaha, Nebraska. Though U.S. Border Patrol encountered him as far back as 2023, he was allowed to remain in the country under President Joe Biden&#8217;s administration, DHS shared.
Escobar-Ochoa faces an &#8220;INTERPOL Red Notice&#8221; from El Salvador for conspiracy to commit murder and drug trafficking, DHS said.

The second gang member, who is a Salvadoran national, is not named by <a href="https://www.ice.gov/news/releases/ice-arrests-one-el-salvadors-top-100-most-wanted-hiding-nebraska">ICE</a> but is on El Salvador&#8217;s 100 Most Wanted Fugitives list, according to DHS. Fox News first reported his arrest on Thursday afternoon.
He is wanted for five counts of murder, and U.S. authorities had previously convicted him for illegally crossing the border. He was arrested in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

“The Biden Administration allowed two ringleaders of MS-13, one of the most violent gangs in the world, straight into our country,&#8221; DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said on Thursday. &#8220;One of these depraved aliens is on El Salvador’s 100 Most Wanted Fugitives list and is wanted for five counts of murder. The other has an INTERPOL notice for drug trafficking.&#8221;
&#8220;These are the kinds of scum-bags sanctuary politicians are protecting and letting walk free on America’s streets,&#8221; McLaughlin added.
Both arrests were led by HSI Omaha with support from federal and international law enforcement partners, and ICE is holding both gang members in custody as ICE coordinates with El Salvadoran authorities to send them back to their home country to &#8220;face justice.&#8221;
DHS emphasizes that the MS-13 gang members&#8217; ability to get into the United States only highlights the danger that open border policies present to American citizens, as well as President Donald Trump&#8217;s administration&#8217;s efforts to stem the border crisis.
In the first 100 days of the second Trump administration, ICE <a href="https://www.ice.gov/news/releases/100-days-record-breaking-immigration-enforcement-us-interior">arrested</a> 66,463 illegal aliens and removed 65,682 aliens, &#8220;including criminals who threaten public safety and national security.&#8221; Three in four of the arrests were criminal illegal aliens, the agency said.
Criminal records of the aliens arrested include 9,639 assaults, 6,398 DWIs or DUIs, and 1,479 weapon offenses.
“We removed over 65,000 illegal aliens to countries across the world,” ICE acting Director Todd M. Lyons said in June when ICE released the numbers from the first 100 days. “We’re just 100 days into this administration and thanks to President Trump and Secretary Noem, ICE is using every tool at its disposal to enforce our country’s immigration laws and protect our communities.”

Border Patrol agents arrested four people on Tuesday, suspected of planting tire spikes in front of vehicles used by federal immigration enforcement agents in Los Angeles in an attempt to impede their mission.
Border Patrol Chief Patrol Agent Gregory Bovino said that the individuals, Jenaro-Ernesto Ayala, 43; Jude Jasmine Jeannine Allard, 28; Sadot Jarnica, 54; and Daniel Montenegro, 30, were arrested for “interfering with federal agents conducting immigration enforcement operations.”
“They are facing felony charges for placing homemade tire spikes to disable law enforcement vehicles,” Bovino added. “Anyone who interferes with our lawful mission will be arrested.” The four were taken into custody after federal agents <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14889485/feds-photo-transgender-woman-attacks-ice-agents.html">conducted</a> a raid in a Home Depot parking lot in L.A.&#8217;s Van Nuys neighborhood.

Two of those arrested, Ayala and Allard, were <a href="https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2025-07-09/advocates-for-day-laborers-arrested-after-tire-spikes-found-at-immigration-raid">identified</a> as “day laborer advocates” with a non-profit called the “Instituto de Educacion Popular del Sur De California.” The organization claims that the two individuals arrested were observing the federal law enforcement agents and have seen no evidence connecting them to the spikes.
The use of tire spikes against federal agents is one of the latest attempts by leftist agitators in Los Angeles to impede immigration enforcement.
One leftist activist, The Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/leftwing-activist-network-distributes-riot-gear-to-los-angeles-anti-ice-agitators?author=Spencer+Lindquist&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=26&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Meet+The+Leftwing+Activist+Using+Social+Media+To+Funnel+Riot+Gear+To+Anti-ICE+Protests">revealed</a>, distributed respirator masks, gloves, and helmets to agitators on the “front lines” of the uprisings against ICE in Los Angeles. “Only grab gear if you are literally going out to the front lines TODAY,” the leftist activist said on social media.
Federal authorities arrested one man who was also found to have passed out respirators to rioters in Los Angeles. The suspect, who was <a href="https://x.com/USAttyEssayli/status/1933158095833964798">charged</a> with conspiracy to commit civil disorders, could face up to five years in prison.
L.A.-area leftists have also revealed the addresses of hotels that were housing ICE agents on social media, luring agitators to the locations who attempted to disrupt the agents&#8217; sleep by creating disturbances in parking lots outside.
