President-elect <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/donald-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Donald Trump</a> said during an interview over the weekend that he will not separate families who have family members illegally in the United States — he will instead give them the option to all be deported together.
Trump made the remarks during an interview that aired Sunday on NBC News&#8217; &#8220;Meet The Press&#8221; with Kristen Welker when the host accused Trump of separating families during his first term in office.
&#8220;We don’t have to separate a family,&#8221; Trump said. &#8220;We’ll send the whole family, very humanely, back to the country where they came. That way, the family’s not separated.&#8221;
Trump said that what will happen will depend on the family in question, as some may prefer just to send the illegal alien member of their family back to their country of origin.
&#8220;We need deterrence. Look, ready? When somebody comes here illegally, they’re going out,&#8221; Trump said. &#8220;It’s very simple. When they come here illegally, they’re going out. Now, if they come here illegally, but their family is here legally, then the family has a choice. The person that came in illegally can go out, or they can all go out together.&#8221;

Trump made the remarks during a Sunday interview with NBC News’ Kristen Welker on “Meet The Press.”
&#8220;I think you have to do it,&#8221; Trump said when asked if his plan was to deport everyone who is in the U.S. illegally over the next four years. &#8220;It’s a very tough thing to do.&#8221;
&#8220;You have to have, you know, you have rules, regulations, laws,&#8221; he said. &#8220;They came in illegally. You know, the people that have been treated very unfairly are the people that have been on line for ten years to come into the country. And we&#8217;re going to make it very easy for people to come in, in terms of they have to pass the test.&#8221;
Trump said that anyone who was a criminal will never be allowed to come to the U.S. legally under his watch.
&#8220;We have to get the criminals out of our country,&#8221; he said. &#8220;We have to get people that were taken out of mental institutions and put them back into their mental institution no matter what country it is.&#8221;
&#8220;Number one, we&#8217;re doing criminals and we&#8217;re going to do them really rapidly,&#8221; he said. &#8220;We&#8217;re getting the worst gang probably with MS-13, and the Venezuelan gangs are the worst in the world. They&#8217;re vicious, violent people. And you&#8217;ve seen what they&#8217;ve done in Colorado and other places. They&#8217;re taking over, they’re literally taking over apartment complexes and doing it with impunity.&#8221;

When confronted with the logistical challenges of deporting that many people, Trump said that he had &#8220;no choice&#8221; but to do it.
&#8220;First of all, they&#8217;re costing us a fortune,&#8221; he said. &#8220;But we&#8217;re starting with the criminals and we&#8217;ve got to do it. And then we&#8217;re starting with others and we&#8217;re going to see how it goes.&#8221;

President-elect Donald Trump bloodied Mexico and Canada with diplomatic buckshot <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/113546215051155542" target="_blank" rel="noopener">earlier this week</a> by writing that, on his first day in office, he’ll levy devastating <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-unveils-tariff-ultimatums-against-canada-mexico-and-china" target="_blank" rel="noopener">25% trade tariffs</a> on those two U.S. neighbors if they fail to crack down on illegal immigration and drug trafficking.
Much public puzzlement has filled international media coverage over why Trump would single out Canada for punishment equal to that of the far guiltier Mexico. 
“To compare us to Mexico is the most insulting thing I’ve ever heard from our friends and closest allies, the United States of America,” <a href="https://apnews.com/article/canada-trump-tariffs-mexico-12e925cfc44432140d0a776503e095ae" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ontario Premier Doug Ford said.</a> “I found his comments unfair. I found them insulting. It’s like a family member stabbing you right in the heart.” 
“We shouldn’t confuse the Mexican border with the Canadian border,” Canadian Industry Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne said.
But this narrative seems intended to deflect public acknowledgement of what the liberal progressive government of Justin Trudeau did in fact do to draw Trump’s tariff ire. In terms of immigration policy, the Canadian offenses are indeed much different from Mexico’s open super-highway mass migration wave-throughs during the Biden-Harris years. But Canada’s policies have, arguably, damaged U.S. national security and public safety interests in harmful ways that media outlets on both sides rarely report.
<h3>Canada’s Massive Legal Immigration Program As A U.S. National Security Threat </h3>
Much of the damage arises from an historic <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-63643912" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Canadian legal immigrant importation program</a> of unprecedented scope. Since the program’s 2021 implementation, the Great White North has imported some 1.5 million foreign national workers (400,000+ per year for a country of 38 million) from dozens of developing nations and hundreds of thousands of <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-67964674">foreign students in 2023 alone</a> – making it another record-breaking year.
Why are those programs a U.S. problem? Because a spiking number of foreign nationals are apparently abusing the Canadian programs as a lily pad from which to illegally enter the United States between northern border land ports of entry, among them <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/suspected-terrorist-from-jordan-arrested-us-northern-border-ice">proven threats</a> to U.S. national security and public safety.
Why this traffic leaking into the United States is a problem – even though the total numbers illegally entering from Canada are small relative to those crossing from Mexico – arises from the fact that many hail from Muslim-majority nations and have, Canadian media reports, fueled a <a href="https://www.newsweek.com/canadas-jihadi-crisis-should-worry-america-opinion-1961520" target="_blank" rel="noopener">spate of terrorism</a> and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trudeau-blasted-for-dancing-while-montreal-burned-during-anti-semitic-riot" target="_blank" rel="noopener">anti-Semitic attacks</a> throughout Canada. In addition, far too many of the Mexicans Canada has allowed in turned out to be cartel drug traffickers and killers.
These are the kinds of criminals crossing the U.S. northern border in increasing numbers due to Canadian policies — policies Canada could address if it wanted to.
Consider that U.S. Border Patrol apprehensions in the brush between U.S.-Canada land ports of entry jumped from 2,238 in 2022 to 23,721 in 2024, neatly coinciding with Trudeau’s mass legal immigration programs.
Among those crossing illegally from Canada, for instance, were 15,827 Indian nationals in 2023 and 2024, 8,367 Mexicans, and 3,833 from unspecified countries listed only as “Other” on the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s public statistics website.

<h3>A Border-Crossing Terror Plot Foiled</h3>
Concerns on both sides of the northern border have been simmering for some years as Canadians witness newcomers carrying out <a href="https://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/en/news/2024/father-and-son-arrested-terrorism-offences">terror plots</a>, actual attacks, and perhaps some of the record-breaking nearly <a href="https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/bnai-brith-antisemitic-report-record-high-1.7195197" target="_blank" rel="noopener">6,000 antisemitic incidents</a> Canada has logged since the Israel-Hamas war broke out.
What’s been happening in Canada was obvious to many.
“Canada has become a hotbed of radicalization, fanaticism, and jihadism,” wrote Casey Babb, Senior Fellow with the Macdonald-Laurier Institute in <a href="https://www.newsweek.com/canadas-jihadi-crisis-should-worry-america-opinion-1961520" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Newsweek shortly after the arrest</a>. “As un-Canadian as it sounds, Canada has a terrorism crisis on its hands and that should worry the United States for a whole host of reasons.”
<a href="https://macdonaldlaurier.ca/isis-and-its-violent-central-asian-chapter-are-threatening-canada-and-the-west-with-jihad-are-we-ready-to-fight-back-hussain-ehsani-for-inside-policy/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Concern</a> would reach an apogee in October 2024, when a joint U.S.-Canadian counterterrorism operation thwarted a plot by a Pakistani student <a href="https://cis.org/Bensman/Meanwhile-Northern-Border-Jihadist-Attack-New-York-Thwarted" target="_blank" rel="noopener">on a Canadian visa</a> to illegally cross the northern border to conduct an October 2024 massacre of Jews in New York.
Muhammad Shahzeb Khan, a 20-year-old Pakistani citizen legally issued a Canadian student visa in June 2023, <a href="https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/pakistani-national-charged-plotting-terrorist-attack-new-york-city-support-isis-0" target="_blank" rel="noopener">now stands accused</a> in U.S. federal court of plotting an illegal-smuggler-assisted northern border crossing to carry out a mass shooting of Jews in New York City to celebrate with blood the October 7 anniversary of the Hamas massacre in Israel. Khan hoped it would go down in history as “the largest U.S. attack since 9/11.”
“We are going to nyc (sic) to slaughter them” with AR-style rifles and hunting knives “so we can slit their throats,” Khan told an undercover FBI agent he believed to be a co-conspirator, according to <a href="https://www.justice.gov/d9/2024-09/u.s._v._khan_complaint_0.pdf?utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=govdelivery" target="_blank" rel="noopener">an agent complaint</a>. “Even if we don’t attack an event we could rack up easily a lot of Jews.”
His was among the record-breaking <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-67964674" target="_blank" rel="noopener">400,000 foreign student visas</a> Canada issued in 2023.
That alarming new terrorism prosecution in New York State should have been enough to renew Trump’s interest in turning diplomatic pressure onto Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau’s mass legal immigration policies and border security on its side.
But terrorists cannot be the only concern.
<h3>Mexican Cartel Killers And Traffickers In Canada Crossing Too</h3>
The incoming Trump administration will need to force resolution of another issue regarding U.S. public safety concerns dating back to an especially damaging 2016 Trudeau move that did great harm until it was addressed just recently. Trudeau <a href="https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/news/2016/12/canada-lifts-visa-requirement-mexico-1.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">rescinded 2009 visa requirements</a> on Mexican citizens and against the <a href="https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/mexico-visa-restrictions-lifting-three-amigos-1.3648757" target="_blank" rel="noopener">advice of his own government</a>. Mexican criminals would abuse the policy to fly in at will and bedevil both Canadian and northern American cities.
That all began in early 2017. A sustained surge was underway of Mexican nationals who, unable to easily cross the southern border under Trump 1.0, were flying over the United States into Canada. They would claim Canadian asylum and cross southward over the less tended northern U.S. border.
Among them were the predicted Mexican cartel operatives.
Leaked Canada Border Services Agency <a href="https://globalnews.ca/news/3578905/justin-trudeau-mexican-visa-more-criminals/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">intelligence reports</a> said Mexican &#8220;drug smugglers, human smugglers, recruiters, money launders and foot soldiers&#8221; were turning up in greater numbers than ever before. The cartels went to work building human smuggling networks to move other Mexicans south over the American border, just as they did all along the southern border.
In July 2017, Global News quoted <a href="https://globalnews.ca/news/3578905/justin-trudeau-mexican-visa-more-criminals/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the intelligence reports</a> saying the ultra-violent Sinaloa cartel had turned up in Canada to &#8220;facilitate travel to Canada by Mexicans with criminal records.&#8221; Others identified included La Familia Michoacana, Jalisco New Generation, and Los Zetas.
For instance, whereas the reports said 37 Mexicans linked to organized criminal groups had entered between 2012 and 2015, 65 involved in &#8220;serious crimes&#8221; were identified midway through just 2017, compared to 28 in 2015. By May 2019, at least <a href="https://www.publicsafety.gc.ca/cnt/trnsprnc/brfng-mtrls/prlmntry-bndrs/20200621/fp001/index-en.aspx" target="_blank" rel="noopener">400 Mexican criminals</a> connected to drug trafficking, including sicario hitmen, were plying their trades in Canada, at least half of them in Quebec, according to a May 24, 2019, report in the <a href="https://torontosun.com/news/crime/100s-of-drug-cartel-members-have-entered-canada-since-liberals-waived-mexican-visa-report" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Toronto Sun</a> and other Canadian <a href="https://tnc.news/2019/05/25/canadian-authorities-have-lost-track-of-400-mexican-hit-men-and-drug-traffickers/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">media outlets</a>.
All had entered through the Trudeau visa loophole for Mexicans.
By the end of 2019, Canada saw a <a href="https://www.theglobeandmail.com/politics/article-mexican-ambassador-cautions-against-re-imposing-visas-to-address/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">1,400% spike</a> in the number of bogus Mexican <a href="https://globalnews.ca/news/4042075/mexico-refugee-claims-spike-visa-lift/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">refugee claims</a>, the vast majority naturally rejected, and of associated <a href="https://www.reuters.com/article/us-canada-immigration-mexico-detention/canadas-detention-of-mexicans-surges-after-visa-lift-idUSKBN1942IW" target="_blank" rel="noopener">detentions</a>.
<h3>Canada Finally About To Face The Music</h3>
Only in February 2024 did the Americans pressure the Canadians to finally <a href="https://apnews.com/article/canada-mexico-visa-requirement-59cf64c5d74271cb2e3f40970ffb4786" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reimpose some visa restrictions</a> on Mexicans — though not all. Now, only Mexicans who already <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/americas/canada-will-reinstate-some-visa-requirements-mexicans-says-cbc-2024-02-28/">hold a U.S. visa</a> or old Canadian one can travel visa-free, while most other Mexicans with neither will have to apply for a Canadian one.
The damage is already done, but there&#8217;s always a chance Trudeau could revert to visa-free once again.
From January to mid-October 2022, for instance, 7,698 Mexican asylum seekers took direct flights from Mexico City to Montreal, according to <a href="https://nationalpost.com/pmn/news-pmn/canada-news-pmn/the-number-of-mexican-asylum-seekers-in-canada-has-increased-dramatically">a November 2022 Canadian Press story</a>.
The paper quoted officials at nonprofit refugee assistance groups attesting that most fly to Canada because they found out Trudeau’s visa-free policy also got them government financial assistance while awaiting their mostly denied asylum applications.
In their October 2021 book, &#8220;<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Wolfpack-Millennial-Mobsters-Canadian-Underworld/dp/0735275394" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Wolfpack: The Millennial Mobsters Who Brought Chaos and the Cartels to the Canadian Underworld</a>,&#8221; journalists Peter Edwards and Luis Najera established that the Sinaloa Cartel now <a href="https://insightcrime.org/news/how-mexican-cartels-settled-canada/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">has a foothold</a> across eastern Canada, with “solid control of cocaine shipments in and out of Canada.” The Arellano Felix group has its foothold in Vancouver and in the state of Alberta.
The Zetas are in Canada “involved with temporary migrant workers.”
Asked in 2023 if Canada’s importance to Mexican organized crime had increased “in recent years,” co-author Luis Najera answered: “I would say it has increased since criminal cells moved up north to settle and expand operations here. It is also strategic to have groups operating north of the U.S. border, close to key places such as Chicago and New York, and without the scrutiny of the DEA and rival groups.”
Canada is not Mexico but its policies pose consequences for the United States.
Any normal U.S. administration would put Canada on the hook for adjusting its policies and more robustly guarding its supposedly treasured neighboring ally, the United States, from harm. If punishing trade tariffs finally focus Canada’s attention on those policy-driven harms, let them last until Canada fixes what it recklessly broke.

Texas has offered to lease the federal government a 1,400-acre ranch to build detention facilities for President-elect Donald Trump’s deportation effort.
Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham made the offer in a <a href="https://www.glo.texas.gov/the-glo/news/press-releases/2024/files/11-19-24_trump-donald-starr-county-offer.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">letter</a> to Trump on Tuesday. The land is located about 35 miles west of McAllen, Texas, a border town near the state’s southern tip. The letter offered to lease the land to the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or the U.S. Border Patrol for law enforcement purposes.
Buckingham would agree “to allow a facility to be built for the processing, detention, and coordination of the largest deportation of violent criminals in the nation’s history,” she wrote in the letter.
Texas bought the ranch from the previous owner, who refused to allow border fencing to be built on it and had blocked Texas law enforcement from accessing the property, the letter said.
Texas and the state General Land Office that Buckingham heads support Trump’s plan to enact a massive deportation effort after millions of illegal aliens entered the United States under President Joe Biden, Buckingham said in an interview with <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/border-state-offers-trump-massive-plot-land-aid-mass-deportation-operation" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fox News</a>.
&#8220;What I care about is that we have safe communities, and there is no doubt that we are losing too many of our children to these violent criminals that are coming across the border,&#8221; Buckingham said. &#8220;I am 100% on board with the Trump administration&#8217;s pledge to get these criminals out of our country, and we are more than happy to offer our resources to facilitate those deportations of these violent criminals.&#8221;

“This election was a resounding referendum on the fact that Americans want safe communities. We want people to immigrate legally and legally only and that the administration&#8217;s policies over the last four years have failed every American citizen,” she said.
After Trump’s election win, Buckingham said she began looking for ways to help the president-elect implement his deportation agenda. The offer to lease the Starr County ranch came from discussions with her staff.
“Right now, it’s essentially farmland, so it’s flat, it’s easy to build on. President-elect Donald Trump indicated Monday that his incoming administration was preparing to declare a national emergency to mobilize military assets to crack down on illegal immigration and secure the border. 
Trump <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/113503150672865350" target="_blank" rel="noopener">responded</a> “TRUE!!” to a Truth Social Post from Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton saying that the second Trump administration was “prepared to declare a national emergency and will use military assets to reverse the Biden invasion through a mass deportation program.”
The emergency declaration on the border would follow one Trump made during his first administration, which he announced on February 15, 2019, as he fought with Democrats in Congress over border security. 
“We’re going to confront the national security crisis on our southern border, and we’re going to do it one way or the other,” he <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2019/02/15/us/politics/national-emergency-trump.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> at the time. &#8220;We have an invasion of drugs and criminals coming into our country.&#8221;
Trump later vetoed a resolution from Democrats in Congress opposing the declaration, which allowed him to fund border wall construction. His administration was sued by Democrat state attorneys general and leftist groups who claimed that the declaration was unconstitutional.

President Joe Biden revoked the emergency declaration on his first day in office as he reversed many of Trump&#8217;s immigration policies.
&#8220;I have determined that the declaration of a national emergency at our southern border was unwarranted. Under Biden’s administration, illegal immigration hit record highs as more than 10 million people crossed into the United States. Polling showed that Biden&#8217;s handling of immigration was unpopular, while Trump&#8217;s positions were broadly supported. 
Trump has already tapped immigration hawks like Tom Homan and Stephen Miller for key positions in his administration. Homan, who was picked to be Trump&#8217;s border czar, has already promised to carry out Trump&#8217;s deportation plans and endorsed extending construction of a border wall.  
Throughout his 2024 campaign, Trump promised to enact the largest deportation program in American history.
&#8220;Really, we have no choice,&#8221; he <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2024-election/trump-says-no-price-tag-mass-deportation-plan-rcna179178" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> NBC earlier this year. &#8220;When people have killed and murdered, when drug lords have destroyed countries, and now they&#8217;re going to go back to those countries because they&#8217;re not staying here. There is no price tag.&#8221;

Shortly after Donald Trump’s upset election victory in 2016, official State of Texas business brought me to two ICE immigration detention centers in South Texas. I ran an intelligence group for the Texas Department of Public Safety’s Intelligence and Counterterrorism Division. What I learned there has informed my beliefs about illegal immigration ever since.
Back then, part of my routine was to help the feds interview apprehended aliens from Pakistan, Syria, Somalia, and Afghanistan and collect intelligence about potential Islamic terrorism. The South Texas Processing Center in Pearsall, Texas, some one hundred miles from the Mexican border, was always filled to the brim with detainees. 
But to my surprise, for the first time, it was as empty as a football stadium in baseball season. The same was true of ICE’s larger, ever-packed-to-capacity Port Isabel Service Processing Center near Brownsville, Texas.
“Where is everyone?” I asked the ICE intelligence officers, separately, at both facilities.
The same surprising answer went something like this: People throughout Latin America heard Trump on the campaign stump vowing illegal immigration crackdowns, and they decided to stay home rather than risk smuggling money for nothing. If the perceived odds of successfully getting in and staying a long time to earn money is high enough, they’ll come. If the perceived odds are higher that they’ll be blocked and deported, they’re sheltering in place.
It was the first time I’d heard such a thing, although it seemed so obvious.
The number of Border Patrol apprehensions, however, proved it. In November of 2016 there were 63,361 border apprehensions but by March of 2017 that number dropped to <a href="https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2017/apr/25/donald-trump/illegal-immigration-lowest-17-years-trump-said/">12,193</a>, the lowest count in decades.

After interviewing migrants south of the border, some in the U.S. media also noticed. They began to call the link between the candidate&#8217;s rhetoric and deterring impact on migration plans “The Trump Effect.”
Well, act two of The Trump Effect is now in play.
While it’s too early for data to prove it, my recent <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/un-non-profits-pave-the-way-for-permanent-mass-migration" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pre-election interviews</a> with immigrants in deep southern Mexico struck a very familiar chord.
“If after election day [Kamala Harris] is elected, we know that everything is good, then we can enter,” one Ghanaian man told me in Tapachula, Mexico’s downtown plaza. Otherwise, he stated, he would stay put in Mexico for years if necessary. That sentiment was ubiquitous in mid-October. 
“We know that if Donald Trump wins, all the migrants will be kicked out of the United States,” a middle-aged Venezuelan man in the plaza said. “We hope that he doesn’t win.”
But border hawks should not get complacent. The Trump Effect’s sustainability over time is hardly guaranteed.
The first Trump Effect showed that real action must follow campaign rhetoric. It didn’t last, as Liberal groups challenged every one of Trump’s policies and bogged them down in court.
“No president has been sued over his immigration policies as much as Donald Trump,” one November 2019 <a href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/stuartanderson/2019/11/05/all-the-presidents-immigration-lawsuits/">Forbes article</a> pointed out.
In 2021, a <a href="https://www.nber.org/system/files/working_papers/w28909/w28909.pdf">National Bureau of Economic Research study</a> concluded that Trump’s rhetoric and policies led to a “large, abrupt decline in apprehensions beginning around January 2017.”
“We would argue this was one of the more important changes in the U.S. immigration space in recent years,” wrote researchers Mark Hoekstra and Sandra Orozco-Aleman of their discovery that political communications by politicians do influence immigrant decisions.

But they too noticed that The Trump Effect didn’t last long. By May 2017, apprehension rates began to increase and had returned to pre-election trends by the summer of 2018. It just got worse before it got better.

By late 2018, with litigation and political opposition of every stripe bogging down Trump’s best laid plans, hundreds of thousands of migrants were pouring in and would do so until mid-2019 when the administration came up with some policy innovations enabling major crackdowns –and court decisions that eventually went Trump’s way.
But today, the whole world will be watching for Trump to follow through with a promised mass deportation program, fast removals of every immigrant caught illegally crossing, and the dismantling of Biden-era open border policies.
And once again, aspiring migrants will rely on their many allies inside the United States to bog things down.
The New York Times recently <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/11/10/us/trump-immigration-court-lawsuits.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that battalions of immigration lawyers are preparing to battle Trump in court again.
“We literally have a blueprint of what they are planning to do, and so we had months and months to figure out how to protect people,” Becca Heller, founder of the International Refugee Assistance Project, told the paper. “The Trump team might think they are ready, but so are we.”
Expect some large-scale test charges on Border Patrol between ports of entry and on the U.S.-Mexico bridges before and after Trump’s inauguration.
The hundreds of thousands of immigrants caught downstream by the U.S. election result will be glued to their cell phones and encrypted social media apps, paying close attention to what becomes of those up-trail — those who test the Trump administration’s will to stop and deport them. How Trump handles them will matter greatly.

For border hawks and anyone who wants to see an end to four years of unimpeded mass migration, however, there are silver linings in that 2025 is not 2017. For starters, many of the policies that Trump 2.0 will bring back are already court-battle tested, such as Remain in Mexico, which allows the Border Patrol to instantly return border-crossers back to Mexico to await the years of their asylum claim adjudications. 
But mainly, Trump 2.0 is unlikely to have to weather high political heat for closing the border down after the nation saw and felt 11 million apprehensions over the last four years.
Every poll for the last year, plus the overwhelming re-election of Trump on his illegal immigration shutdown plans shows the American public strongly supports them.

President-elect Donald Trump’s new border czar, former Acting Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement Tom Homan, has a plan to secure the border and curtail illegal immigration.
Trump announced Sunday that he was tapping Homan to secure the nation&#8217;s borders and end the illegal immigration crisis, a <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/trump-mass-deportation-plan-cost-consequences-60-minutes-transcript/">major focus</a> of Trump&#8217;s campaign. Homan, who began his career as a Border Patrol agent, gained notoriety after he endorsing Trump’s plan to implement the largest deportation operation in American history.
&#8220;People say, ‘How are you going to remove millions?’ The answer is: One at a time,&#8221; he <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/ex-ice-chief-thomas-homan-eyes-historic-deportation-op-trump-re-elected-no-ones-off-the-table">explained</a>. &#8220;No one&#8217;s off the table. If you&#8217;re in the country illegally in violation of immigration law, you are a target.”
He reaffirmed his commitment to the deportation effort at the Republican National Convention, giving a <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKD4b4n4iCY">speech</a> where he told illegal aliens to “pack their bags” as attendees waved signs that read “Mass Deportation Now.”
In a widely-shared clip, Homan explained to 60 Minutes host Cecilia Vega how illegal aliens can be deported without separating families.
“Is there a way to carry out mass deportation without separating families?” the host asked Homan. “Of course there is, families can be deported together,” Homan responded.

When asked about the projected cost to deport illegal aliens, Homan shot back “what price do you put on our national security?”
Trump explained that Homan will be tasked with carrying out his mass deportation plan. “Tom Homan will be in charge of all Deportation of Illegal Aliens back to their Country of Origin,” he noted in his statement naming Homan his new “border czar.”
Homan has celebrated Trump’s “Remain in Mexico” policy, which required migrants to stay in Mexico while their asylum claims were processed. President Joe Biden reversed the policy on his first day in office. Under Biden, migrants were released into the United States and told to return to court for their asylum hearings, with some being given court dates <a href="https://apnews.com/article/immigration-courts-wait-54bb5f7c18c4c37c6ca7f28231ff0edf">as late as 2033</a>.
“The Remain in Mexico program was probably the biggest game changer in the Trump administration,” Homan explained in <a href="https://www.heritage.org/immigration/heritage-explains/the-rancher-and-the-ice-director">an interview</a> with the Heritage Foundation. “What simply it is, if you&#8217;re going to claim asylum, you&#8217;re going to wait outside the country in Mexico until your hearing rather than being released into the United States.”
He also explained the issue with the Biden administration’s approach. “Half of them won&#8217;t show up to court, even if they lose the case, they don&#8217;t leave,” Homan noted. “They&#8217;re just going to wait for the next giveaway, next amnesty, next DACA.”
In addition to discussing ways to secure the border and return illegal aliens to their home countries, Homan has explained how amnesty proposals reward and encourage those who’ve illegally entered the United States.
He pointed directly to President Barack Obama&#8217;s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program as one way amnesty programs encourage mass illegal immigration.
“We’ve sent the message to the world that if you hide out long enough, we will reward your illegal behavior. It&#8217;s no coincidence that family unit crossings surged shortly after DACA was created in 2012,” he wrote in <a href="https://www.hachettebookgroup.com/contributor/tom-homan/?lens=center-street">his book</a> “Defend the Border and Save Lives.”
“In the past few years, thousands of parents brought children into this country illegally ‘through no fault of the child,’ and they will be our next DACA population if we don’t fix this problem once and for all.”
Honan has also advocated for a system of mandatory E-Verify, a program that would prevent companies from hiring illegal aliens and, according to Homan, would “stem the flow of illegal alien labor” into the United States.
The program, Homan contends, would help curtail illegal immigration by removing the economic incentives that motivate many migrants to attempt to illegally enter the United States.
“This program would save tens of millions of dollars annually in enforcement operations by making it much more difficult to use fake identities,” Homan <a href="https://thehill.com/opinion/immigration/524920-to-stop-illegal-immigration-crack-down-on-illegal-employment/">wrote</a> of the E-Verify program, going on to say that it “is the best tool available, and currently prevents a significant amount of unauthorized employment.”
“What’s frustrating to me … is that we even have some Republicans in Congress who don’t want to see E-Verify enacted,” Homan explained in 2020 in <a href="https://cis.org/Immigration-Newsmaker/Video-Book-Talk-Former-ICE-Acting-Director-Tom-Homan">an interview</a> with the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS.) “If they truly want to stop illegal employment they need a system of checks and balances, and E-Verify, with some moderate changes, could be effective.”
Homan has also endorsed Trump&#8217;s plan to build a wall on the southern border and vouched for its effectiveness at impeding illegal crossings. “Every place they built a border barrier, illegal immigration went down, illegal drug problems went down without exception,” he explained while speaking with the Heritage Foundation.
“We&#8217;ve always wanted a barrier for two reasons,” Homan said of Border Patrol personnel. “Number one, a barrier will help slow down those crossing illegally and second of all, for the most vulnerable, the women, the children, the family units, they can&#8217;t climb that wall, so that will funnel them to a place where there&#8217;s not a wall, which the border patrol could staff that end of that funnel and be able to respond to any humanitarian concerns, any health concerns,” he explained.
Trump’s decision to name Homan as his “border czar” will mark a drastic shift from the approach of the Biden-Harris administration. <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/2455010/illegal-border-crossers-total-over-10-million-since-biden-inauguration/">More than 10 million</a> people have crossed the border under the Biden-Harris administration, with an estimated <a href="https://cis.org/Arthur/Blockbuster-House-Report-Reveals-How-Badly-Bidens-Broken-Our-Immigration-System">1.7 million illegal immigrant gotaways recorded</a> since Biden was inaugurated in 2021. Trump also named immigration hawk Stephen Miller as his <a href="https://www.npr.org/2024/11/11/g-s1-33741/trump-stephen-miller-deputy-chief-of-staff-immigration-policy-deportations">deputy chief of staff for policy</a>, a sign that the president-elect is poised to enact the slate of hardline immigration policies he campaigned on.

Under a program created by the Biden-Harris administration, tens of millions of taxpayer dollars have been spent telling Central and South American migrants how to enter the U.S. without passing through the Southern Border.
A <a href="https://judiciary.house.gov/sites/evo-subsites/republicans-judiciary.house.gov/files/evo-media-document/2024-11-01%20Inside%20the%20Biden-Harris%20Administration%27s%20Open-Borders%20Alliance%20with%20United%20Nations%20Bureaucrats.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> released Friday by the Republican-controlled Judiciary subcommittee on immigration integrity, security, and enforcement found that Americans have spent more than $80 million on a program that helps foreign nationals enter the U.S., whether through refugee status or other means.
The program in question is the 2023 Biden-Harris Safe Mobility Initiative, which works with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to help migrants bypass the southern border.
“Under President Biden and Vice President Harris, in June 2023 the State Department announced its Safe Mobility Initiative, which allows aliens to sidestep the southwest border and, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), ‘avoid the risks associated with onward movement,’” congressional Republicans wrote in the executive summary of their report. “In other words, this new Biden-Harris program fast-tracks aliens into the United States out of sight of the American people and without the politically damaging optics at the border.”
“The initiative’s Safe Mobility Offices (SMOs) allow aliens outside the United States to consult with foreign national employees from UNHCR and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), who then provide the aliens with several options to resettle in the United States, including through family reunification parole, labor pathways, and additional expansions of the Biden-Harris Administration’s illegal abuses of humanitarian parole,” the report continued. “The U.S. taxpayer-funded SMOs are located in 13 cities across Guatemala, Costa Rica, Colombia, and Ecuador.”

Since last year, congressional Republicans have sought to oversee the Biden-Harris administration’s disastrous handling of America’s southern border and say this oversight led to the discovery of an “open-borders alliance with United Nations bureaucrats to ensure that additional aliens are fast-tracked into the United States on the U.S. taxpayers’ dime.”
The subcommittee found that more than 18,000 immigrants from Central and South America departed to resettle in the U.S. through the initiative, and nearly 67,000 were referred to the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program for potential resettlement in the U.S. Another 7,000 were identified by IOM as potentially eligible to enter the U.S. in other ways.
“For aliens who are not eligible to resettle in the United States through the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program because they could not establish that they are refugees, IOM staffers at SMOs counsel the aliens on alternative avenues to enter the country,” the report found. “Only 14 percent of IOM employees devoted to the Safe Mobility Initiative are U.S. citizens, however, meaning that the Biden-Harris Administration uses U.S. taxpayer dollars to pay foreign national employees of the United Nations to counsel other foreign nationals on the best ways to enter the United States.”

A hotel in downtown <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/texas" target="_blank" rel="noopener">El Paso</a> that is allegedly occupied by a Venezuelan gang was ordered temporarily shut down by a state judge on Monday.
The judge&#8217;s order came after the Gateway Hotel and its owner <a href="https://kfoxtv.com/news/local/el-pasos-gateway-hotel-faces-legal-action-over-alleged-gang-activity-safety-violations" target="_blank" rel="noopener">received</a> a temporary injunction and restraining order from the El Paso County attorney on Monday over suspicions that the Venezuelan &#8220;Tren De Aragua&#8221; gang was engaging in criminal activity inside the hotel.
Tren de Aragua made national headlines a few weeks ago after gang members allegedly commandeered an apartment complex in Aurora, Colorado. Police there have <a href="https://www.elpasotimes.com/story/news/nation/2024/09/03/aurora-colorado-apartment-gang-police/75013215007/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">denied</a> the gang controls the complex.
Court documents say that police reports show the Gateway Hotel in El Paso has regular criminal activity, and members of Tren De Aragua have been allowed to operate inside, according to sworn testimony from El Paso police officers.
One officer said police witnessed several Venezuelan men with tattoos associated with the gang walking around the hotel. Hotel management was not attempting to control the conduct of guests, the officer said.
At least 693 calls to police have been made about the hotel over the last two years, including for drugs, thefts, burglaries, and fights.

The court documents also accuse the hotel of operating for the past six years without a valid certificate of occupancy and in violation of city requirements, as well as failing at least three inspections by the El Paso Fire Department since July.
Security videos and pictures from the court documents also show people &#8220;partying&#8221; on the third floor, drinking, smoking, dancing provocatively, and one woman even apparently vomiting in a hallway with children around.
One video also shows a gun being shot, a person threatening someone with another gun, men holding knives, and a man with a hatchet assaulting people in front of a security guard.
One police officer said he suspected prostitution in the hotel. Police also described trash and fire hazards as well and said the general reputation of the hotel was for &#8220;allowing illegal activity (consuming drugs, gang activity, illegal dumping).&#8221;
A hearing is scheduled for December 9 to determine if hotel owner Howard Yun allowed criminal activity on the property.
The county attorney&#8217;s office sued the hotel last month and is seeking a permanent injunction to stop the hotel from operating until long-term solutions are in place.
The Gateway Hotel has been in downtown El Paso since the 1920s, although it has changed ownership.
The occupants of the hotel have until 10 a.m. on Thursday to vacate the building. It is unclear whether law enforcement will be required to evict those living in the hotel.
