Mass amnesty would be a slap in the face to the American people — and a betrayal of the mandate voters delivered in 2024. The American people sent Republicans to Washington to secure the border, enforce our laws, and put American workers and families first. Yet some in our own party are attempting to resurrect the deeply flawed <a href="https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/house-bill/4393">DIGNIDAD (Dignity) Act</a>.
This bill must die in the cradle. It is not “commonsense reform.” It is mass amnesty dressed up in deceptive language, and it undermines the agenda Americans demanded.
Sponsors of the legislation, led by Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar, insist the bill is not amnesty. They claim it merely brings people “out of the shadows” with earned legal status while securing the border and protecting American workers. Rep. Mike Lawler, a vocal co-sponsor, has even touted it as a bipartisan fix that codifies tough immigration policies.
Salazar has pushed back against critics of the bill, suggesting opponents simply haven’t read the text. So let’s examine the legislation’s own provisions.
The bill’s Sections 2102-2104 establish a version of the Dream Act that grants conditional lawful permanent resident status to illegal aliens who entered the United States before age 18, have been continuously present since January 1, 2021, meet education, employment, or military service requirements, and pass background checks. DACA recipients receive an accelerated track to conditional green cards.
This is a direct path to citizenship for an estimated 2.5 million “Dreamers” who entered unlawfully as minors, eventually making them eligible for U.S. citizenship and sponsor their lawbreaking parents. The bottom line is the Dignity Act rewards breaking our laws with a clear pathway deeper into the American system.
The bill goes much further, though, in Sections 2301-2305 by creating the Dignity Program, a separate track for the estimated 10.5 million illegal aliens here prior to 2021 who do not qualify for the “Dreamer” provisions. If they pay a simple $1,000 “restitution” fee, submit biometrics, pass a background check, and have no felony convictions, they receive a 7-year renewable “Dignity status” with work and travel authorizations, which they can use existing pathways to adjust to a green card (and therefore a pathway to citizenship).
Sponsors emphasize that there is no path to citizenship and no access to most federal benefits. This is false, and the critical detail they downplay is this: qualifying for the program suspends deportation for anyone who applies and meets the basic criteria, including certain criminals. In practice, this effectively halts mass deportations for the overwhelming majority of the illegal alien population already here. In fact, Section 2204 of the bill explicitly allows illegal aliens deported on or after January 20, 2017 – the day President Trump was first inaugurated – to apply for the bill’s permanent resident status (the “dignity status” outlined above) directly from their home country and, if approved, to return to the United States as lawful permanent residents. This bill seeks to unwind the tremendous successes of President Trump in enforcing our nation’s immigration laws.
Estimates of the unauthorized population have ranged between 12 million and 20 million. The bill’s cutoffs capture nearly all long-term illegal residents, effectively legalizing their presence and shielding them from removal. Proponents call this “earned” status. Conservatives recognize it for what it is: a de facto amnesty that signals to the world that entering illegally carries little permanent consequence once you settle in.
This is unacceptable. American voters did not elect us to rubber-stamp the Biden-era border crisis or to create new legal protections that make large-scale enforcement impossible. Granting work authorization and deferred removal to millions rewards lawbreakers, undercuts wages for American blue-collar workers, and shifts enormous costs onto taxpayers for education, emergency healthcare, housing, and law enforcement. Even if the bill claims “no federal benefits,” indirect costs remain substantial, and local governments bear much of the burden.
Republicans should be expanding detention capacity and streamlining deportations — not creating new protected classes of illegal aliens.
The solution is not to legalize the problem; it is to enforce the law consistently and deter future illegal immigration. The American people understand this. Polling consistently shows strong support for enforcement first, not amnesty-first “compromises.”
As members of the House Freedom Caucus, we stand with the voters who rejected open borders and demanded accountability. We will oppose any legislation that grants mass legal status to illegal aliens, suspends deportations on this scale, or weakens our resolve to restore the rule of law. The DIGNIDAD Act is not a solution — it is a surrender. It must be rejected outright.
No amnesty. No amnesty-lite. No DIGNIDAD Act. That’s our red line.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) lifted a previous order on Wednesday that had grounded all flights departing El Paso International Airport in Texas for ten days due to “special security reasons.&#8221;
The White House told The Daily Wire shortly after the reversal that the move was related to drug cartels.
&#8220;Mexican cartel drones breached U.S. airspace. The Department of War took action to disable the drones,&#8221; the White House said. &#8220;The FAA and DOW have determined there is no threat to commercial travel.&#8221;

Similar <a href="https://tfr.faa.gov/tfr3/?page=detail_6_2234">restrictions</a> were put in place for Santa Teresa, New Mexico, about 15 miles away from El Paso. El Paso, which borders Mexico, is a city of around 678,000 people. 
&#8220;The temporary closure of airspace over El Paso has been lifted. There is no threat to commercial aviation. All flights will resume as normal,&#8221; the FAA announced Wednesday morning, just a few hours after announcing flights would be grounded for ten days. The airport handles up to 100 flights daily.
The <a href="https://tfr.faa.gov/tfr3/?page=detail_6_2233">notice</a> from the FAA put in place flight restrictions for a 10-mile radius around El Paso. Planes flying above 18,000 feet would have been allowed to fly over, but the limitations did not extend into Mexican airspace. 
After the initial grounding was announced, Democrat Rep. Veronica Escobar, whose district includes El Paso, <a href="https://x.com/RepEscobar">called</a> for the FAA to lift the restrictions. 
“The highly consequential decision by FAA to shut down the El Paso Airport for 10 days is unprecedented and has resulted in significant concern within the community,” she said. “From what my office and I have been able to gather overnight and early this morning there is no immediate threat to the community or surrounding areas.”
After the restrictions were lifted, Escobar said there were no safety concerns.
&#8220;The FAA is rightfully lifting the Temporary Restricted Airspace. I will again reiterate there is no threat to El Paso or the surrounding areas,&#8221; she said.
State Senator Cesar Blanco, a Democrat, said his office was contacting multiple agencies to understand the justification for the temporary grounding. 
“Actions like this are taken out of an abundance of caution to protect our community. I encourage everyone to remain calm and patient as we await further information. We will share updates as they become available,” he said.

White House Responds After Taking Out Mexican Cartel Drones In U.S. Airspace

A lone child emerged from the brush along the banks of the Rio Grande River in Hidalgo, Texas, last month, availing herself to Border Patrol agents.
The girl told the agents she was heading to Chugaik, Alaska, to live with her sponsor, Douglas Price, who was later determined to be a 44-year-old registered sex offender, according to the Department of Justice. Price allegedly funneled $5,000 from his business to pay migrant smugglers to bring the child and his mother across the border.
The child, who was separated from her mother before crossing, was rescued before she ended up in the hands of a criminal, thanks to the Trump administration&#8217;s crackdown on sponsors of unaccompanied alien children.
“This man allegedly paid smugglers to bring an illegal alien child and mother to this country, and in doing so, the child ended up alone during the dangerous journey,” Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said.
“Under POTUS, vetting of sponsors for unaccompanied alien children is as strong as ever, and federal partners found this &#8216;sponsor&#8217; to be unfit. It is a crime to smuggle illegal aliens into this country, and particularly horrendous to expose a child to untold dangers. Working with our federal partners, we will continue to uphold the law and in doing so, keep children from potential harm,&#8221; Blanche added.
The Trump administration has sought to improve the vetting of migrant child sponsors who cross the border alone, while also working to hunt down the roughly 320,000 such children that the Biden administration lost track of, and in some cases handed to gang members and sex and labor traffickers.
During the Biden administration, personnel from the Department of Health and Human Services made a &#8220;simple phone call&#8221; and reviewed an email photo before placing a migrant child with their sponsor, The Daily Wire previously reported.
The <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/inside-the-trump-administrations-effort-to-stop-child-migrant-trafficking">Trump administration now requires</a> sponsors and other adults living with them to undergo background checks. The sponsors must also provide proof of income.
Additionally, if the sponsor claims to be a relative, they must also undergo a DNA test. Homeland Security agents meet with the sponsor, while HHS officials visit their home.
Thus far, federal authorities have successfully tracked down 145,000 of the missing children, White House border czar Tom Homan recently said.
Through that effort, Price has been charged with conspiracy to bring aliens to the United States and encouraging aliens to come to, enter, or reside in the country, according to the Department of Justice. He could now spend up to a decade behind bars and a possible $250,000 maximum fine if he&#8217;s convicted.
The child left her home country of Honduras with her mother and a smuggler. Her mother told the child that Price would be her sponsor and would assist her with &#8220;obtaining her U.S. citizenship,&#8221; according to court documents.
In an interview with a Homeland Security Investigations agent, the child said Price sent money to her mother to pay the smugglers.
Price paid roughly $5,000 to fund the mother and daughter&#8217;s dangerous journey to the border &#8220;through payments from his business, Black Bear Construction,&#8221; according to court documents. He allegedly sent the funds &#8220;to a phone number provided by the smugglers.&#8221;
Price also sent photos of himself to the mother and &#8220;inquired about&#8221; her daughter&#8217;s &#8220;status,&#8221; court filings said.

At some point in their journey, the mother and her child were separated, according to the Justice Department.
The child&#8217;s mother crossed the border less than a week after her daughter traversed it alone. The woman told federal agents that she befriended Price roughly four years prior when the two worked &#8220;together in the hotel remodeling business,&#8221; according to court documents.
The migrant mother had also worked as Price&#8217;s &#8220;housekeeper and babysat his children,&#8221; she said.
The child&#8217;s mother promised to pay Price back &#8220;by working for him.&#8221;

While ICE officers are working through Christmas to fulfill President Donald Trump&#8217;s campaign promise and keep Americans safe, those who serve have seen a massive spike in attacks.
As <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/policy/immigration/3901817/assaults-against-ice-up/">highlighted</a> by The Washington Examiner, there were a reported 238 assaults on ICE officers from January 21–November 21, 2025, compared with 19 in the same period of 2024. The spike indicates a stunning 1,153% increase.
Despite the heightened attacks against ICE, Democrat leaders have largely continued to villainize officers and make their work conditions increasingly dangerous.

The Supreme Court on Monday <a href="https://www.supremecourt.gov/orders/courtorders/111725zor_f2bh.pdf">agreed</a> to hear a case challenging a major Ninth Circuit ruling on the government’s former “metering” policy — a system that limited how many asylum seekers could be processed each day at southern border ports of entry. By taking the case, the Court will now consider the government’s argument that the Ninth Circuit’s <a href="https://www.supremecourt.gov/DocketPDF/25/25-5/364238/20250701145005805_Al_Otro_Lado_Petition.pdf?utm_source=chatgpt.com">decision</a> has already made it much harder for the Executive Branch to manage the southern border and will continue to do so.
The dispute centers on how federal law defines when a noncitizen “arrives in the United States” for purposes of applying for asylum. Under 8 U.S.C. § 1158(a)(1), any noncitizen “who is physically present in the United States or who arrives in the United States … whether or not at a designated port of arrival” may apply for asylum, and § 1225(a)(1) requires inspection of such individuals. From 2016 to 2018, however, the Department of Homeland Security <a href="https://www.scotusblog.com/2025/11/supreme-court-agrees-to-hear-case-on-border-crossings/">implemented</a> and formalized a “metering” system. During periods of heavy migration, Customs and Border Protection officers stood at the international boundary and turned back individuals without valid travel documents — even those expressly seeking asylum — preventing them from entering U.S. territory to begin the statutory screening process.
Al Otro Lado, an immigrant-rights group, and several asylum seekers challenged the policy in federal court, arguing that it violated statutory duties to inspect and process applicants. The Ninth Circuit, in a 2–1 decision, <a href="https://cases.justia.com/federal/appellate-courts/ca9/22-55988/22-55988-2024-10-23.pdf?ts=1729701050">ruled</a> in favor of the plaintiffs. Judge Michelle Friedland’s majority opinion held that asylum seekers who reach the border and encounter U.S. officials have “arrived in” the United States for statutory purposes, even if physically located on the Mexican side of the line. She concluded that once an asylum seeker presents at the border, the government must inspect and process that individual.
A sharply divided Ninth Circuit declined to rehear the case en banc. In dissent from that denial, Judge Daniel Bress — joined by eleven others — argued that the panel’s interpretation “violates clear statutory text,” improperly applies U.S. law extraterritorially, and radically departs from longstanding understandings limiting asylum processing obligations to persons actually within U.S. territory.
The federal government, in its petition for certiorari, echoed those objections. It argued that the Ninth Circuit had effectively rewritten Congress’s chosen phrase “arrives in the United States” to mean merely “presents at the border,” a move dissenting judges called “breathtaking” and “radical.” The Solicitor General warned that, if left intact, the ruling would deprive the Executive Branch of a critical operational tool at the border — namely, the ability to manage migrant surges by preventing entry until capacity exists to process arrivals safely. The government stressed that for decades, administrations of both parties have used such practices during periods of overcrowding.
Although the challengers urged the Court to deny review — emphasizing that the metering policy was rescinded years earlier and that the case has “almost no present implications” — the Supreme Court nonetheless agreed to take up the dispute. By issuing the writ of certiorari, the Court signaled its intention to resolve the statutory meaning of “arrives in the United States” and determine whether the Ninth Circuit’s interpretation improperly expands asylum rights and unduly restricts executive border-management authority.

The Department of Homeland Security plans to paint the border wall black to make it harder for would-be illegal immigrants and others to scale.
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced on Tuesday that, under President Donald Trump’s direction, the border wall would be slapped with a new coat of black paint, which will absorb more heat from the sun and make the wall more difficult to climb.
“Now, if you look at the structure that’s behind me, it&#8217;s tall, which makes it very, very difficult to climb, almost impossible. It also goes deep into the ground, which would make it very difficult, if not impossible, to dig under,” said Noem at a press briefing in Santa Teresa, New Mexico.
“We are also going to be painting it black. That is specifically at the request of the president who understands that in the hot temperatures down here, when something is painted black, it gets even warmer, and it will make it even harder for people to climb,” she continued.

“We are going to be painting the entire southern border wall black to make sure that we encourage individuals to not come into our country illegally, to not break our federal laws, but that they will abide and come to our country the right way so that they can stay and have the opportunity to become United States citizens and pursue the American dream,” said Noem.
Homeland Security will also be retrofitting the wall with more cameras, sensors, and other technology to help monitor the area for potential illegal crossers and cartel members.
The secretary said that the upgrades to the wall are possible because of the surge of funding for immigration enforcement and border security included in the One Big, Beautiful Bill.
The plan enacts upgrades that Trump reportedly wanted made to the southern border wall during his first term in office. The president, at the time, <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/trump-wants-his-border-barrier-to-be-painted-black-with-spikes-he-has-other-ideas-too/2019/05/16/b088c07e-7676-11e9-b3f5-5673edf2d127_story.html">wanted</a> the wall painted black to make it hotter to touch. He also reportedly had ideas of adding other obstacles for potential wall-jumpers, including spikes.

Trump Making Change To Border Wall To Make It Harder To Climb

I lock my front door every night. Not because I despise the families who live down the street, but because I cherish the three sleeping heads under my roof.
That impulse — to guard what we love — lies at the heart of the conservative case for a secure border. Too often, we let opponents cast us as people against something (immigrants) when, in fact, we’re actually: for our children’s safety, for working-class wages, for the fragile civic glue that lets strangers treat one another like neighbors.
Polling shows the <a href="https://www.pewresearch.org/politics/2024/02/15/how-americans-view-the-u-s-mexico-border-situation-and-the-governments-handling-of-the-issue/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">mainstream agrees</a>. Eighty percent of Americans, including a majority of Democrats, say Washington is mishandling the migrant surge, and immigration now tops Gallup’s <a href="https://news.gallup.com/poll/611135/immigration-surges-top-important-problem-list.aspx" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“most important problem”</a> list.
Conservatives are right to sound the alarm. We just need to explain that we&#8217;re doing so out of a sense of stewardship, not spite.
History backs the prudence of timed, purposeful immigration. During the American Revolution, foreign-born allies such as <a href="https://www.history.com/articles/6-foreign-born-heroes-of-the-american-revolution" target="_blank" rel="noopener">France’s Lafayette and Prussia’s von Steuben</a> arrived with artillery drills, engineering skills, and diplomatic muscle that an infant republic simply lacked; without them, Yorktown’s surrender may never have come. The young nation welcomed outsiders for a specific mission: win independence and teach the citizen army how to march, aim, and dig trenches.
Fast-forward to the wreckage after Appomattox. The Civil War killed more than 600,000 Americans and scorched the rail lines meant to reunite the continent. Rebuilding demanded manpower the battered South and draft-depleted North no longer possessed. Thousands of Irish and German laborers <a href="https://www.digitalhistory.uh.edu/disp_textbook.cfm?psid=3147&amp;smtID=2&amp;utm_" target="_blank" rel="noopener">laid the ties and pounded the spikes</a> of the transcontinental railroad, knitting markets back together and jump-starting a devastated economy. Immigration in that moment was not charity. It was the scaffolding of national recovery.
The same pattern repeated when smokestacks crowded city skylines. By 1920, immigrants and their children supplied <a href="https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC2760060/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">over half of all manufacturing workers</a> — two-thirds if you count grandchildren — allowing American factories to roar at a scale native labor alone could not have matched. The message is clear: when the nation needs fresh shoulders, controlled immigration can be a patriotic tool.
Yet prudence also means knowing when the job is done. After the industrial boom settled, Congress judged the house full and passed the <a href="https://history.state.gov/milestones/1921-1936/immigration-act" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Johnson-Reed Act of 1924</a>, limiting visas to 2% of each nationality’s 1890 population, and virtually closing the door to Asia. Even a country famous for welcoming immigrants understood that unending inflows can outrun assimilation, depress wages, and strain public trust.
We are living through another such inflection point. The crisis is not a shortage of bodies but a shortage of babies. America’s fertility rate hovers well below replacement while housing prices, classroom head counts, and entitlement programs all creak under existing loads. Before we import millions more people, we should ask why so many citizens feel they cannot afford to start or grow a family.
Conservatives aren’t anti-immigrant. We are pro-family, pro-fairness, and pro-order.
When we do invite guests, we open the front entrance — offering lawful visas to people who follow the rules — rather than waving strangers through a broken window. Securing the southern border, finishing reliable fencing, and speeding up deportations for criminals are not acts of hostility but of hospitality rightly ordered. They protect wages for citizens at the bottom rung, preserve classroom resources for kids who are already falling behind, and honor the millions who waited in line.
Positive reform flows from the same ethic. Conservatives can champion faster asylum rulings so genuine refugees are sheltered quickly while false claims end swiftly. We can simplify legal work visas tied to market demand, not political patronage, and insist those visas come with a date certain to go home or a clear path to stay that includes English proficiency, tax compliance, and civic education. We can tighten E-Verify so employers cannot undercut American labor, and we can steer foreign aid toward church-based charities that fight cartel terror in place — reducing the push factors long before migrants reach the Rio Grande.
The test for our movement is tone. Instead of saying, “We’re against immigration,” say, “We’re for the American worker, for the rule of law, for assimilation strong enough to turn strangers into compatriots.” Tell the single mom in El Paso that a porous border lets fentanyl and traffickers hunt her kids. Tell the legal immigrant in Phoenix that respecting the line he stood in is an act of justice. Tell the Honduran father that a stable, self-confident United States is the best gift we can offer the world, because chaos here would slam every golden door shut.
Someday my children will ask what we did with the inheritance our grandparents secured — ordered liberty, decent wages, a common language of rights and responsibilities. I want to tell them we acted as guardians, not gatekeepers; that we said “yes” to a future large enough for newcomers and natives, but only after we repaired the foundation already cracking beneath our feet.
Conservatives are right on immigration because we refuse to trade short-term sentiment for long-term stability. We are not building a wall of hate; we are stewarding a border of love. And love, like any good father knows, sometimes says “stop” today so it can say “welcome” tomorrow.

In January 2025, the White House finally did what should have been done years ago: it designated Mexico’s brutal drug cartels as Foreign Terrorist Organizations.
This gives American authorities broader tools to freeze assets, gather intelligence, and dismantle these violent syndicates. And it’s an important step in the right direction. But, from where I sit in Bulgaria, I cannot help but ask: why did it take so long?
Here in Bulgaria, we know something about borders. We share one with Turkey, a gateway for migrants heading toward Europe. And yet, despite intense pressure, Bulgaria has not suffered the migrant chaos seen in parts of Western Europe or the United States.
Why? Because we made the decision — like our neighbors in Hungary, under Prime Minister Viktor Orban — to treat national borders as sacred. Not suggestions. Not political bargaining chips. But sovereign, immovable lines of defense.
The fentanyl crisis in the United States is a tragedy of epic proportions. China supplies the chemicals, but it is the Mexican cartels that manufacture and traffic the poison. Hundreds of thousands of American lives have been lost to synthetic drugs. And things would not have been this bad without the collapse of the southern border under the Biden administration.
Bulgaria and Hungary chose a different path. We do not allow open borders. We do not allow foreign-funded NGOs to dictate our immigration policy. We do not apologize for protecting our own people.
The results speak for themselves: we have little to no illegal immigration. No fentanyl crisis. No foreign cartel operations are taking root on our soil.
That is not by accident. It is by design.
Today’s cartels are not just drug dealers. They are militarized, globally networked terrorist syndicates. Their power is expanding because America’s border is collapsing. When the United States fails to defend itself, it sends a dangerous signal not just to cartels but to bad actors around the world.
When the Sinaloa Cartel launched a siege in the Mexican city of Culiacán after the arrest of El Chapo’s son, it looked less like a criminal response and more like a military operation. Can this happen in the United States? From our perspective in Eastern Europe, the answer is yes — if nothing changes.
The cartels already operate in all 50 states. They traffic in drugs, weapons, and human lives. And they do so while millions of illegal immigrants cross the southern border. In contrast, here in Bulgaria, illegal border crossings are rare and heavily punished.
We know that a sovereign nation cannot exist without a secure border. We’ve lived through communist tyranny, open-border chaos in the Balkans, and waves of migration from the Middle East. These are not abstract policy issues for us. They are matters of national survival.
If the United States wants to stop the fentanyl epidemic, secure the border. If you want to dismantle cartel networks, secure the border. If you want to preserve your way of life, secure the border.
President Donald Trump put America on that path during his first term. The Remain in Mexico policy, border wall construction, and strict enforcement were making a difference. But President Joe Biden reversed that progress. And now, the chaos is global.
This is not just an American problem anymore. The drugs, the human trafficking, the terrorism — it’s spreading all across the Western world. Europe is already starting to see signs of fentanyl’s arrival. And make no mistake, if the cartels succeed in producing their own precursors and cutting out China, the crisis will escalate faster and deadlier than ever before.
The United States should look east and learn some lessons from allies like Bulgaria and Hungary. We have proven that strong borders and strong policies work. We are not perfect, but we are secure.
If politicians in Washington truly want to protect the American people, they must stop listening to the globalist elite and start listening to those of us who have fought for our sovereignty and won. We believe President Trump is taking the necessary actions to secure the border.
Otherwise, the next cartel siege will not happen in Mexico. It will happen in Texas. Or Arizona. Or Ohio.
And when it does, Americans will remember who allowed the gates to stay wide open.

What America Can Learn From Bulgaria About Securing Borders

Looking back on it, one of the most important moments from the last election had nothing to do with Donald Trump or Kamala Harris. In fact it had nothing to do with this country at all. It was the unilateral decision by the president of El Salvador to transform his country, virtually overnight, from a gang-controlled failed state into one of the safest places on the planet. This wasn&#8217;t an empty campaign promise or a slogan. He actually did it, despite the wailing from various civil liberties groups.
In 2015, El Salvador recorded more than 6,000 homicides.
Throughout all of last year, they recorded just over 100 homicides.
By all accounts, in just a few years, El Salvador managed to solve a crime problem that, according to all the experts, could not be solved.
To everyone living in America&#8217;s rotted-out urban centers, overrun border towns and poor communities in Appalachia, the transformation of El Salvador was meaningful. It wasn&#8217;t your typical foreign news story with no interest to everyday people. It wasn&#8217;t the equivalent of wall-to-wall coverage about the latest developments taking place 7,000 miles away in the Middle East.
What Bukele did to save El Salvador, very clearly, sent the message to every American that the same kind of revival is possible in this country. All of the barriers you hear about are fake. None of the roadblocks are real. Places like Seattle, New York and Los Angeles aren&#8217;t actually beyond saving, no matter how dire things look. All it takes is an executive who&#8217;s willing to punish criminals without any remorse whatsoever. Once a country has an executive like that, things can change. And they can change very quickly.
Less than six months into the second Trump administration, we&#8217;re seeing another illustration of this principle. Throughout the campaign, as you might remember, we were told repeatedly that the unrestricted flow of illegal aliens into this country was a very difficult problem to solve. We were told that, in order to even begin to address the issue, we&#8217;d need to pass a law that would send billions of dollars to federal government agencies and various NGOs. That was the claim every Democrat — and several Republicans — were making. As much as I understand that no human being ever wants to hear the words &#8220;Kamala Harris&#8221; ever again, this was also a big part of her platform. During the debate, it was her &#8220;big idea&#8221; for supposedly fixing the border. If you can bear it, here&#8217;s that moment again:

Less than a year later, let&#8217;s check in on this whole line of argument. How is the border doing, now that Donald Trump is the president of the United States? Without a multi-billion-dollar &#8220;border bill,&#8221; how much could his administration possibly have accomplished?
As it turns out — even with every federal judge in the country working in tandem to block his agenda, and even without an expensive border bill passed by Congress — the administration has accomplished quite a bit. They&#8217;ve done what we were told was impossible, many times over. The southern border, which until very recently was a completely unsalvageable mess, is now more secure than it&#8217;s been at any time in generations.
Here&#8217;s CBS News, of all places, <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/migrant-crossings-u-s-mexico-border-historically-low-levels/">reporting</a> on the progress:
<blockquote>The number of migrants crossing the U.S. southern border unlawfully continued to be at a historically low level in April, three full months into President Trump&#8217;s aggressive efforts to curtail illegal immigration, according to internal federal data. &#8230; The number of illegal crossings during Mr. Trump&#8217;s first three full months in office represents a seismic change at the U.S.-Mexico border. The apprehensions reported in February, March and April are the lowest tallies recorded by the Border Patrol in its public monthly dataset, which stretches back to fiscal year 2000. The last time Border Patrol averaged fewer than 9,000 monthly apprehensions along the southern border over a year was in the late 1960s, according to historical agency figures.</blockquote>
In other words, according to arrest data stretching back 25 years — which is the extent of the data we have collected — a record-low number of illegal aliens are currently attempting to cross the border. Donald Trump, in his second term, has achieved a more secure border than Bush, Obama, and the first Trump administration did. And he&#8217;s still going. We&#8217;re on pace for the lowest number of illegal aliens being apprehended at the border since the 1960s, at which point the data becomes so imprecise that we have no real way of going further back.

This didn&#8217;t take an act of Congress. It didn&#8217;t take hundreds of billions of dollars. All it took was an executive who authorized federal officers to enforce immigration law, both at the border and throughout the country. Once that happened, the inflow of illegal aliens stopped as quickly as it began.. Here&#8217;s a chart that CBS included in their story, which highlights just how drastic the decline in illegal migration has been:

You&#8217;ll notice there&#8217;s a massive, unprecedented spike in illegal migration right when Joe Biden takes over. And then, just as quickly, the Trump administration ends it. Look at that drop. It&#8217;s almost unbelievable. It demonstrates that, no, this was not a complicated or difficult issue to solve. And that makes the refusal to solve this problem, by every president until now, seem all the more nefarious.
To be clear, the only reason we&#8217;re seeing these reductions in apprehensions at the border is because the illegal aliens have gotten the message that the Trump administration is serious about immigration enforcement. Therefore they&#8217;ve stopped trying to enter this country. They understand that, when they&#8217;re caught, they won&#8217;t be allowed into the United States anymore, which is what the Biden administration did in virtually every case.
The New York Post just <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/06/17/us-news/border-agents-didnt-release-a-single-illegal-migrant-into-the-us-last-month-border-patrol/">obtained data</a> demonstrating just how common &#8220;catch and release&#8221; used to be, under the previous administration. These are some of the more extraordinary figures you&#8217;ll ever hear.
<blockquote>Border Patrol agents didn’t release a single migrant into the US last month — a staggering drop after the Biden administration allowed 62,000 illegal crossers in the country in May 2024. &#8230; Agents caught 8,725 migrants crossing illegally at the southern border last month. That’s a 93% decrease from May 2024, when 117,905 were nabbed. &#8230; One of the most monumental policy changes made by Trump was the reversal of President Joe Biden’s catch-and-release scheme, which resulted in millions of illegal border jumpers being allowed into the US.</blockquote>
To restate, in May of 2024, the Biden administration deliberately allowed 62,000 illegal aliens into the country. That&#8217;s 62,000 illegal aliens in just one month, meaning they were on pace to allow more illegal aliens into this country in one year than the entire population of San Francisco. By contrast, this past May, the Trump administration did not deliberately allow a single detained illegal immigrant into this country. They took the number from 62,000 all the way to zero, which of course is what the number should&#8217;ve been all along. There is no reason whatsoever to allow a criminal alien to enter the country, because once you do that, you&#8217;ll never see them again — at least, not until they commit some heinous act of violence against an American citizen. Of course, the Biden administration knew that. That&#8217;s why they did it. And now that policy is over, so we&#8217;re seeing immediate results.
This is obviously a major victory, on par with what Bukele did in El Salvador. But it&#8217;s not a total victory, even though the numbers make it look like one. That&#8217;s because, as we&#8217;ve discussed previously, illegal immigration isn&#8217;t the only immigration problem we have. Like other countries, including Canada, we&#8217;ve given legal status to a large number of foreign nationals who despise this country. Which means even legal immigration is a problem that needs to be fixed. In fact, legal immigration needs to be shut down entirely, at least for now.
More than pretty much anyone else, Ilhan Omar is a walking justification for this policy. As if to prove my point, Omar recently announced that America — the country that rescued her from life of certain poverty, despair and ultimately death in Somalia — is actually one of the worst countries on the planet. This is a woman who, because of the generosity of the United States and its immigration policy, is now a sitting member of Congress, living a life that&#8217;s unimaginable to many Americans, to say nothing of virtually everyone living in Somalia. But here she is, announcing that actually, America is just about as bad as where she came from:

She&#8217;s willing to say, as part of her sob story, that she lived under a brutal dictatorship in Somalia. But she conveniently leaves out the fact that her father was a colonel in that dictator&#8217;s army. This is a regime that committed genocide and various human rights abuses as part of a communist-Islamist agenda. But Ilhan Omar forgot to mention any of that. And it&#8217;s an interesting omission, to say the least. It&#8217;s the kind of thing that might make you suspect that Ilhan Omar is an inherently dishonest person, and her whole family — and many other &#8220;refugees&#8221; like her — should never have been granted legal status in the first place.
And that&#8217;s not the only deception that&#8217;s evident in that interview. Notice what she&#8217;s doing there. She says that &#8220;this should be a wakeup call&#8221; for all Americans to feel a variety of patriotic sentiments about &#8220;the country we were born in&#8221; and the &#8220;founding fathers.&#8221; She&#8217;s trying to use American values against Americans. But she doesn&#8217;t actually share any of these values. Pretty much every time this woman opens her mouth, she&#8217;s attacking America, praising Somalia, and vowing to work on behalf of Somali interests from within the United States.
We&#8217;ve played the clips many times before. There hasn&#8217;t been a single moment in her political career where she&#8217;s expressed an ounce of pride in this country. And she certainly has never praised &#8220;the founding fathers,&#8221; who she regards as white supremacists whose statues should be torn down, and whose memories should be erased from history forever. But now, suddenly, she&#8217;s pretending to invoke the &#8220;founding fathers&#8221; to appeal to her constituents.
And again, she&#8217;s been given legal status to come to this country and say all of this. She&#8217;s now a naturalized citizen. And through it all, she keeps talking about Somalia. In fact she seems to want to go back there. This is a rough translation that&#8217;s <a href="https://x.com/EndWokeness/status/1753402969406451930">making the rounds</a> from a trip that Omar reportedly took to Somalia back in 2022. According to the translation in the subtitles, she says, &#8220;I am a Somali girl… a young child taken from her country that misses her country and wishes to live there.”
You can dispute whether Ilhan Omar obtained her citizenship lawfully, and whether she&#8217;s subject to deportation on those grounds. But it really doesn&#8217;t matter. Very obviously, based on what she&#8217;s saying publicly, it&#8217;s clear that Ilhan Omar should not have been allowed into this country for any reason. She certainly should not have been made a citizen. She doesn&#8217;t offer anything to this country. And she never has. She is a shining example for why legal immigration needs to be drastically curtailed, now that the border is relatively secure.
Washington congresswoman Pramila Jayapal is yet another example. She came to this country from India as a teenager. And by her own admission, at no point did she have any interest in improving America for Americans. Instead, she immediately got to work opening the floodgates for the rest of the third-world to come here. Here&#8217;s what she <a href="https://x.com/PramilaJayapal/status/1934354981399798075">just wrote</a> on social media.
<blockquote>I came to this country when I was 16. I worked in immigration justice for 20 years before setting foot in Congress. I’ve spent my entire life defending immigrants – and I’m not backing down.</blockquote>
In other words, by allowing Pramila Jayapal to become a citizen, we didn&#8217;t get someone who was committed to a life of hard work that would improve the lives of American citizens in any way. She didn&#8217;t have any interest in contributing to her local community, or performing services for American citizens. Instead, she began working immediately on behalf of foreign nationals.
This is a self-perpetuating problem. It&#8217;s a death spiral. The more immigrants we allow into this country — even &#8220;legal&#8221; ones — the more immigrants we get. By and large, these people are not vetted. They openly despise this country from the second they arrive. And after they&#8217;ve used our resources for their benefit, their hatred doesn&#8217;t change. Instead, they work even harder to allow more of their countrymen into the United States, so that they, too, can reap the rewards. This system simply cannot last forever. It&#8217;s not simply immoral. It&#8217;s unsustainable. It only works as long as there are rewards to dish out. Once that happens — and this moment is rapidly approaching — the social safety net collapses for everyone, along with our economy.
The only way to prevent that outcome is for the Trump administration to follow-up on its success with illegal aliens by sharply reducing the number of lawful migrants into this country.
Democrats will claim it&#8217;s heartless to turn our back on &#8220;refugees&#8221; and so on. But all you really need to do is listen to most of these &#8220;refugees&#8221; and lawful immigrants speak for a few minutes, and you&#8217;ll see what&#8217;s necessary. They don&#8217;t typically sound like South Africans, who are grateful to be here. Instead they often sound like Ilhan Omar and Pramila Jayapal. They tell us how awful the United States is, and how desperately they want to return to Somalia. And at this point, as decisively as Donald Trump closed the southern border, we have no choice but to give these loathsome, anti-American foreign operatives exactly what they&#8217;re asking for.

There is a reason I left Los Angeles.
As long as I can recall living in LA, every time you would drive past a Home Depot or a similar store, there would be a crowd of illegal immigrants who were waiting for work.
You do feel bad for these people. Many of them have crossed the border in an attempt to seek work and send remittances back home, and many of them are also on welfare. It turns out that an enormous number of people who come across the border end up engaging in things that leech off of the taxpayer dime; they end up as a net cost to the taxpayer. They take part in the public education system if they have kids who they bring across the border; they end up using medical services.
But the issue is this: It’s not about whether these people are nice or mean, whether they are good or bad.
They have broken the law. They crossed the border illegally. And that is just the ones who otherwise are law-abiding.
And then there are a bunch of people who are not otherwise law-abiding. There are many people in Southern California or occupying jails in Southern California who committed crimes in addition to illegal immigration. 
Federal law says you are not allowed to cross the American border without your papers, and that if you overstay your visa, even if you come across the border legally with a visa, then you are also here illegally and you ought to be deported.
Enforcing that law should not be controversial. There is a reason countries have borders, but the United States, for as long as I can recall, simply did not enforce the law properly. That was particularly true under Joe Biden.

When Donald Trump came into office in 2016, he pledged to do something about illegal immigration. And he did. The rate of border crossing plummeted dramatically during Donald Trump&#8217;s first term.
Then Joe Biden came in and opened the border wide to the tune of at least 10 million people crossing the border, either by claiming asylum falsely or by simply crossing illegally between ports of entry or by overstaying visas.
Donald Trump has now come into office for the second time, pledging to stop illegal immigration. He has already successfully closed the southern border. And now he is activating Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), to implement the law; to find people who are in the interior of the country illegally and to remove them.
This should not be controversial. Just because elected officials haven&#8217;t enforced the law properly for decades, it does not mean that enforcing the law now should be controversial.
Late last week, there were some immigration enforcement operations that happened in Southern California. According to <a href="https://www.wsj.com/us-news/los-angeles-protests-national-guard-015b5bd3">The Wall Street Journal</a>:
<blockquote>The first demonstrations began Friday in Los Angeles, when residents reacted to federal agents engaged in what appeared to be an immigration enforcement operation. Homeland Security spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin said that some 800 protesters surrounded and breached a federal law-enforcement building in Los Angeles. 
Protests continued throughout the weekend, with a particularly tense standoff occurring Sunday evening in downtown Los Angeles. California Highway Patrol officers used flash-bang stun grenades and tactical positioning to push protesters off Highway 101. Demonstrators threw tree branches, scooters and fireworks from a freeway overpass onto police vehicles, and some protesters set fire to at least five Waymo driverless taxis.  </blockquote>
The Journal <a href="https://www.wsj.com/us-news/california-protesters-clash-with-federal-agents-for-a-second-day-e23066bb?gaa_at=eafs&amp;gaa_n=ASWzDAhBtQDc_BPowgGspZYa2AEmKvp6M2nag8T46Lb2x4X7Gc8-Je8Q2abS0t-7WtE%3D&amp;gaa_ts=68473754&amp;gaa_sig=VbjeylgUtsk49Bwgg6nfs-yUFWEjXNCJBw_t63GPSyAC4ZOqP7mtiFvhYHZmn2lacqcNop981VLhH2Qn1iO2ow%3D%3D">added</a>:
<blockquote>Protesters also gathered outside a federal detention center in downtown Los Angeles Saturday night and were pushed back by law enforcement using tear gas and flash bangs, according to local news footage. Los Angeles police declared an unlawful assembly in the area and detained multiple people.</blockquote>
Things got incredibly fraught. That is not a giant shock. What is amazing, however, is that people believe the United States is so lawless that when federal agents show up to arrest people for being in the country illegally, we end up with hundreds of protesters, many of whom end up assaulting police officers, ICE agents, participating in acts of criminality, rioting, and burning things.
L.A. has become an incredibly lawless place. It&#8217;s one of the reasons my family and I moved during the BLM riots, in which the city of Los Angeles essentially told the cops to stand down and allow people to riot and destroy whatever they could, burning cop cars along the way.
We lived in a fairly decent area of L.A., and I could hear the helicopters above our home and gunshots. I can promise you, in the aftermath of what&#8217;s going on right now, there will be many people who look at California and say, “Why in the hell am I paying exorbitant taxes in order to live in a place that allowed every area around L.A. to burn just a few months ago, and now is allowing parts of L.A. to burn in order to protect people who came to the country illegally in the first place?”
It&#8217;s total insanity. This is essentially what my new book, “<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Lions-Scavengers-Story-America-Critics/dp/1668097885">Lions and Scavengers</a>,” is about. There are two groups of people in the United States and across the West: people who wish to build institutions and create successful operating systems, and then people who wish to tear them down.
You look at the protesters and you see many of them flying Mexican flags as well as Palestinian flags (and it&#8217;s a good indicator that you&#8217;re on the wrong side of any protests if you&#8217;re the one flying a Palestinian flag). These protesters were roaming around suggesting they need to be in the United States while flying the Mexican flag.
That&#8217;s an amazing thing because they&#8217;re not saying Mexico and the United States are in solidarity. Precisely the opposite. They are saying they came to the United States as a quasi-invading force and they&#8217;ve come here as refugees from Mexico, and therefore left Mexico for a reason.
This would be the equivalent of Cuban migrants attempting to escape Cuba, who then fly the Cuban flag while attempting to stop ICE officers. It would be bizarre. 
Cubans coming to the United States from Cuba generally don&#8217;t fly the flag of the country that oppressed them and forced them to leave. If they are flying that flag it’s to overthrow the government of Cuba.
But in LA, you have a bunch of people flying Mexican flags, not because they wish to change the government of Mexico, or because they believe in the solidarity between the United States and Mexico, but because many of them believe that this entire area is Aztalan: It doesn&#8217;t belong to the American people or the American government.
The Left thinks all of this is okay. When you have the government of Los Angeles not doing enough to shut all of this down, it demonstrates the Democrats&#8217; priorities.

There&#8217;s a long heritage for all of this in the Democratic Party, going back to Barack Obama winking and nodding at the Ferguson riots of 2014. We&#8217;ve had a dozen years of this kind of garbage and yet Democrats still don&#8217;t seem to get it. They are defending the rioters and the protesters and the people who are engaging in violence.
If anyone actually wonders why President Trump is president — this is why.

WASHINGTON—The Department of Justice has secured the return of alleged human trafficker Kilmar Abrego Garcia, and will prosecute and imprison him in the United States, Attorney General Pam Bondi said at a press conference Friday.
“Abrego Garcia has landed in the United States to face justice,” Bondi told reporters. “This is what American justice looks like,” Bondi said. The attorney general went on to thank various other agencies that aided in the Justice Department’s investigation, as well as El Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele.
“On May 21st, a grand jury in the Middle District of Tennessee returned a sealed indictment, charging Abrego Garcia with alien smuggling and conspiracy to commit alien smuggling,” Bondi said. “Our government presented El Salvador with an arrest warrant, and they agreed to return him to our country. We&#8217;re grateful to President Bukele for agreeing to return him to our country to face these very serious charges.”
Abrego Garcia became a cause célèbre after his deportation, with Democrat politicians and members of the mainstream media dubbing him a “Maryland man” and insisting that he had been incorrectly deported. Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen (D) even flew to El Salvador to visit the illegal alien, despite mounting evidence that he had been engaged in transnational criminal activity.
Now, Bondi says, there is no longer any doubt that Abrego Garcia was a criminal.
“The grand jury found that over the past nine years, Abrego Garcia has played a significant role in an alien smuggling ring,” she said, noting that he made over 100 trips back and forth from the United States to smuggle violent gang members and terrorists, as well as “thousands of illegal aliens.”
“This is especially disturbing, because Abrego Garcia is also alleged to have transported minor children,” Bondi said. “The defendant traded the innocence of minor children for profit.”
The attorney general then revealed “even more disturbing facts the grand jury uncovered,” including that Abrego Garcia worked with the smuggling ring “responsible for the death of more than 50 migrants in 2021” following a tractor-trailer accident in Mexico.
Bondi also revealed that co-conspirators allege Abrego Garcia “abused undocumented alien females” and &#8220;solicited nude photographs and videos of a minor.”
The grand jury investigation also revealed that Abrego Garcia used SUVs with false bottoms to smuggle firearms and narcotics into the country.
“These facts demonstrate Abrego Garcia is a danger to our community,” Bondi said.
The Supreme Court ruled after Abrego Garcia’s deportation in March that the United States had to “facilitate” the illegal alien’s return to the country despite him being a Salvadoran national. Now that he’s been returned, Bondi said, he will be charged and imprisoned in the United States. The attorney general says she suspects Abrego Garcia will be returned to El Salvador “upon completion of the sentence.”
In April, authorities began investigating a 2022 traffic stop in which Abrego Garcia was pulled over, but not detained. Asked by a reporter on Friday what changed between that traffic stop and today, Bondi had a simple answer.
“What has changed is that Donald Trump is now president of the United States, and our borders are now secure.”
