Kate Middleton and Prince William’s oldest son, Prince George, is set to make history next month at King Charles III’s coronation when he becomes the first future royal monarch and youngest to be involved in the services.
The royal household recently confirmed that the Princess and Prince of Wales’ 9-year-old son will serve as a Page of Honor at his grandfather’s crowning ceremony on May 6, The Telegraph reported, according to Entertainment Tonight.
“We’re all very excited about Prince George’s role in the Coronation,” a spokesperson for the royal household of Middleton’s son said. “It will be an incredibly special moment.”

During the ceremony, Prince George will carry a small ceremonial sword, showing him acting as a protector of his grandfather during a traditional representation, the outlet noted. The King ascended the throne in September 2022 following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, at 96. Charles formally becomes the head of the monarchy when he’s crowned at London’s Westminster Abbey. The young member of the royal family is the second-in-line to the throne, the Independent noted.
According to The Telegraph, George’s involvement in the ceremony is the first one in modern times in which a future monarch is involved in the service. When the late Queen Elizabeth II was crowned in 1953, the future King Charles was only 4-years-old. And while he was in attendance at the coronation, he was only brought in to see the moment of her crowning.
Before Charles, Elizabeth at 11 years old had a similar experience to her young son as she watched her father King George being crowned from the Royal Gallery, but was not included in the crowning ceremony, ET noted.
In addition to Prince George’s parents’ involvement in the services, Prince Harry will be in attendance at the king’s coronation, going solo to the ceremony, as previously reported.

Buckingham Palace confirmed that the Duke of Sussex will travel to the United Kingdom in May without his wife Meghan Markle and their two kids for the coronation of his father.
“Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that The Duke of Sussex will attend the Coronation Service at Westminster Abbey on 6th May,” the statement read. “The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.”
