It’s another battle of the billionaires, with Amazon founder Jeff Bezos denying a politically charged allegation shared by tech executive Elon Musk.

Overnight, Musk posted to his social media platform, X, about hearing that Bezos had been telling people that President-elect Donald Trump would lose the 2024 election.

“Just learned tonight at Mar-a-Lago that Jeff Bezos was telling everyone that [Trump] would lose for sure, so they should sell all their Tesla and SpaceX stock,” Musk said.

Musk, who endorsed Trump on the campaign trail and is now slated to help lead the president-elect’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), owns Tesla and SpaceX.

Bezos shot back in reply on Thursday morning, saying, “Nope. 100% not true.”

The denial was the latest salvo in a longstanding rivalry that ranges from competition between their space companies to Musk dissing Amazon’s “Lord of The Rings” series.

And there is the question of who is the wealthiest person in the world.

With Tesla shares rising since the election and SpaceX just conducting another successful launch, Musk led the list as of press time with a net worth of $316.1 billion, according to Forbes.

At $213.3 billion, Bezos ranked third, behind Oracle’s Larry Ellison. Bezos had been the world’s richest person as recently as earlier this year.

Bezos made headlines in October when it emerged that he made the decision for the newspaper he owns, The Washington Post, to end its practice of endorsing presidential candidates.

“Presidential endorsements do nothing to tip the scales of an election. No undecided voters in Pennsylvania are going to say, ‘I’m going with Newspaper A’s endorsement.’ None,” he wrote in an op-ed.

“What presidential endorsements actually do is create a perception of bias,” Bezos added. “A perception of non-independence. Ending them is a principled decision, and it’s the right one.”

After Trump defeated Vice President Kamala Harris in the November election, Bezos released a statement congratulating the president-elect.

“Big congratulations to our 45th and now 47th President on an extraordinary political comeback and decisive victory,” Bezos said in a post to X.

“No nation has bigger opportunities,” he continued. “Wishing [Trump] all success in leading and uniting the America we all love.”
