The decade's most triggering comedy
The 36-year-old rapper had just kicked off his “It’s All a Blur” tour with 21 Savage when a fan pelted him in the wrist with a cell phone, per TMZ. Drake was performing his version of the Ginuwine song “So Anxious” on Wednesday night in Chicago when the incident occurred. He did not appear to be injured, the outlet noted.
The Canadian-born singer did not react to the flying object and kept on playing the show, which included a hologram of his younger self and a tribute to designer Virgil Abloh.
Even though Drake wasn’t injured, the flying cell phone was part of a larger trend of fans throwing things at performers onstage during concerts, which sometimes causes injuries. Bebe Rexha, Lil Nas X, and Kelsea Ballerini have all been hit by various objects, including a phone, a sex toy, and a bracelet.
Rexha had to be rushed off the stage when she was pelted in the face with a cell phone during a performance in June and wound up getting stitches on her face.
The 33-year-old singer posted two pictures to her Instagram showing her injury. In one photo, the singer’s eye is purple and swollen with a cut just underneath her brow line. In another image, the singer is giving a thumbs up even though her left eye is bruised dark purple with a bandage over it.
Adele denounced the new trend among concertgoers and warned her fans that she wouldn’t put up with that kind of behavior.
“Have you noticed how people are, like, forgetting f***ing show etiquette at the moment, people are throwing sh** on stage? Have you seen that?” she said in a clip that made the rounds on social media, as The Daily Wire previously reported. The “Someone Like You” singer, continued, “F***ing dare you. I dare you to throw something at me.”
