Social media users are losing their minds after discovering how Netflix chose to describe one of the most iconic films of all time. 
The streamer’s short <a href="https://www.netflix.com/title/70020694">description</a> for the historical drama “Gone with the Wind” reads: “A 1939 American Civil War epic known for its racism. To learn more about Black lives in America, search ‘Black Lives Matter.’”
The title does not appear to be available to stream in the United States currently.
Screenshots of the description went viral on social media, with commenters saying the whole thing was no surprise from a woke company like Netflix. Elon Musk also <a href="https://x.com/elonmusk/status/2077362080286412981">reacted</a>, saying simply, “Needs to change.”
This is not the first time “Gone with the Wind” has come under attack by would-be censors. In 2020, HBO Max <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/backfire-gone-with-the-wind-sales-explode-after-leftists-target-movie-sales-of-other-classics-also-skyrocketing">pulled the title</a> from circulation amid the public outcry over George Floyd’s death. The move ended up having the opposite effect, with sales of the film exploding.
It was later <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/gone-with-the-wind-returning-to-hbo-max-will-feature-a-disclaimer">restored to HBO Max</a> and included an introduction from Turner Classic Movies host Jacqueline Stewart. She argued in an op-ed, also published in 2020, that the film deserved to be circulated so everyone could learn more about the evils of the past. 
“‘Gone with the Wind’ is a prime text for examining expressions of white supremacy in popular culture,” Stewart insisted, arguing that the film “taps into long standing myths about the gentility of the antebellum South.”
“As the title indicates, ‘Gone with the Wind’ looks back nostalgically at idyllic days that are no more (because they never were),” she continued. “By harkening back to the great old days, plantation dramas invite white viewers to imagine appealing but false pedigrees. When working class and poor white viewers identify with a noble white lineage, for example, they might be less likely to form what could be beneficial alliances with their black working class and poor counterparts.”
“Gone with the Wind” is a historical romance film based on the 1936 novel of the same name by Margaret Mitchell. It’s an enduring classic that most people believe to be representative of its time, but it has still become the subject of controversy at different points in time, especially in the last decade.
In 2023, the book’s publisher defended <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/gone-with-the-wind-publisher-calls-the-book-harmful">adding an introductory warning</a> without changing any of the book’s text.
“‘Gone with the Wind’ is a novel which includes problematic elements including the romanticization of a shocking era in our history and the horrors of slavery,” the publishers wrote at the time. “The novel includes the representation of unacceptable practices, racist and stereotypical depictions and troubling themes, characterization, language and imagery.”
“The text of this book remains true to the original in every way and is reflective of the language and period in which it was originally written,” the disclaimer went on. “We want to alert readers that there may be hurtful or indeed harmful phrases and terminology that were prevalent at the time this novel was written and which are true to the context of the historical setting of this novel. Pan Macmillan believes changing the text to reflect today’s world would undermine the authenticity of the original, so has chosen to leave the text in its entirety.”
“This does not, however, constitute an endorsement of the characterization, content or language used,” it said in conclusion.
“Gone with the Wind” is one of the best-known classic movies of all time, earning 10 Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director, following its release in 1939. Hattie McDaniel, who portrayed Mammy in that film, was also the first black person ever to win an Academy Award.

Netflix just announced a new game show idea based on one of the most iconic board games of all time. The streaming giant said it will begin casting for a reality competition show inspired by the Hasbro sensation Monopoly.
Per <a href="https://variety.com/2026/tv/news/netflix-monopoly-competition-series-casting-1236809961/">Variety</a>, contestants will use strategy and build alliances as they navigate a life-sized Monopoly Town Square, all in pursuit of the $2 million grand prize. That means buying up properties and collecting cash to avoid going bankrupt. The players who lose all their money will get sent home.
Monopoly is scheduled to air on Netflix beginning in fall 2027 and is being made in partnership with Hasbro Entertainment and Studio Lambert, which is also responsible for popular game shows including “Squid Game: The Challenge” and “The Circle.”
It’s not Netflix&#8217;s only big adaptation in the works. &#8220;Wonka’s The Golden Ticket,&#8221; which will be based on the Roald Dahl novel “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” will premiere this September.
Casting is currently open as Netflix searches for 12 players who think they have what it takes, or at least who have the stamina to actually finish the game without getting in a massive brawl and flipping the board before storming off. 
The news was met with mixed reactions online and comes on the heels of rumors that Netflix has <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/netfilx-lost-the-plot">lost the plot</a>, with the majority of its new shows <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/netflix-viewers-abandon-shows-in-droves-after-one-season-and-the-audience-has-feedback?author=Amanda+Harding&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Netflix+Viewers+Abandon+Shows+In+Droves+After+One+Season%2C+And+The+Audience+Has+Feedback">never being renewed</a> for a second season. Subscribers have complained about the long wait between seasons, plus the temptation to binge watch a single series and forget about it shortly after. 
The streamer also turned its big hit “Squid Game” with its 265 million views into a game show. The game show based on “Squid Game,” however, failed to put up such impressive numbers as the original show.

Disney’s live-action version of “Moana” starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson did abysmal numbers at the box office over the weekend, thanks in part to poor pre-sales and terrible reviews. 
The film brought in $43 million across 3,827 North American screens, barely making a dent in its massive $250 million production budget, which doesn&#8217;t even include the astronomical cost of marketing efforts.
Many of these remakes have earned a massive haul for Disney, notably “Beauty and the Beast” (2017) and more recently “Lilo &amp; Stitch” (2025). But there have also been some fantastic flops like “Snow White” last year. 
As of last month, &#8220;Moana&#8221; was <a href="https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/movies/articles/moana-live-action-movie-box-215720407.html">predicted to pull in</a> $80 to $105 million during its opening weekend. But those numbers dropped as its July 10 release day grew closer. 
It currently has a 33% critical score on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. “Virtually every line, beat, and song in the new movie is identical to the 2016 version, apart from a few minor punch-ups or extra comedy tags here and there&#8230; There’s no artistic or aesthetic reason for the live-action Moana to exist,” one <a href="https://www.polygon.com/moana-review-live-action-2026/">review</a> says. 
“The film doesn’t worry about novel turns. It just walks us through the familiar avenues like a dutiful tour guide. A lazy, lazy work that sullies the good name of ‘content,’” <a href="https://www.irishtimes.com/culture/film/review/2026/07/08/moana-review-lazy-disney-live-action-remake-sullies-the-good-name-of-content/">says</a> another.
“It evoked in me a similar reaction to AI slop, where I cringe at the unnerving blend of the familiar and the not-quite-right,” a third <a href="https://mashable.com/entertainment/moana-live-action-2026-review">reviewer</a> agreed.
Movie fans point out that something is lost when animated films are redone with real actors — a criticism that keeps coming up in the early reviews of Moana, too. “From start to finish, ‘Moana’ stands out as one of the ugliest films of the year. The cinematography is washed out and dull, even when it is simply attempting to capture the beauty of Motunui, shot on location in Hawaii,” one <a href="https://discussingfilm.net/2026/07/08/moana-review-heartless-remake-disney/">review</a> says. 
“There are visual gags from the original film that look bizarre in live-action, such as the way Maui repeatedly tosses Moana off her boat. The non-human characters, once full of expression and personality, have lost all their charm.”
Interestingly, the audience score on Rotten Tomatoes is far more positive, holding strong at 90% as of Monday morning. This includes verified viewers.

Stand-up comedian Margaret Cho posted a video on her Instagram mocking the death of South Carolina Republican Senator Lindsey Graham and expressing her hope that another prominent Republican will die next.
The 57-year-old celeb said in the video, “Bye, Lindsey Graham … bye, Lindsey! From the closet to the coffin, real seamless,” referencing rumors that the senator was secretly gay.
“Um, also, yeah Mitch McConnell,” she went on. “So, it’s Mitch McConnell, Lindsey Graham … it does happen in threes. Hope!”

Cho is believed to be indicating that the third “death” would be President Trump. Senator McConnell (R-KY), however, is not actually dead. On the same day Cho&#8217;s video was shared, McConnell <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/after-28-days-of-silence-mitch-mcconnell-offers-proof-of-life-from-hospital">posted</a> a proof of life photo and message from his hospital bed and promised that he “still has unfinished business to complete” following his recovery from a fall and a bout of pneumonia. 
Even people who commented on Cho’s post took exception to her celebration of Graham’s death.
“You can disagree with a politician and still act like a decent human being,” one Instagram commenter wrote. “Mocking someone’s death says more about you than it does about him. A real comedian creates laughter; they don’t confuse cruelty and outrage with humor.”
“Man I&#8217;m not a fan of Lindsay Graham but I would never be happy for someone&#8217;s death. Yikes!” another person added.
Graham, one of the Republican Party’s most influential voices on national security and a close ally of President Trump, unexpectedly died at 71 after what his office described as a “brief and sudden illness,” as The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/u-s-sen-lindsey-graham-dead-at-71-after-brief-illness?author=Kassy+Akiva&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=U.S.+Sen.+Lindsey+Graham+Dead+At+71+After+Brief+Illness">reported</a>. Cho certainly falls into the former category. Recently, the stand-up comedian went on record saying she had wanted to participate in the gay hockey drama “Heated Rivalry” but ultimately decided against it because she was afraid of being “detained at the border” after filming in Canada. 
“Like, it kills me,” Cho <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-hating-actress-rejects-role-in-gay-hockey-drama-over-fears-of-ice">said</a> of turning down the role. “And it’s all because of Trump.”
The actress/comedian also caused controversy in 2023 after saying she hoped Disney would incorporate more LGBT themes into children’s content. 
“I would love to see them everywhere,” Cho said of “queer characters” in kids’ films. “I would love to see trans characters and different types of people in roles of, like, Disney princess, Disney prince, and Disney everything.”
“I think this would be really important and it’s a move towards the future,” she added. “It’s a move towards who we are. I think it’s really admirable and really exciting.”

Actor Sam Neill, best known for his role in the iconic Steven Spielberg classic “Jurassic Park,” died unexpectedly on Monday at the age of 78.
His family shared a <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/DauK0SrT6uJ/?hl=en">statement</a> on the actor’s passing on Monday morning. “It is with immense sadness that the whānau [extended family] of Sam Neill share the news of his passing on Monday 13th July, in Sydney, Australia,” the statement began.
“Sam was surrounded by family and passed with the dignity that has characterized his whole life,” the statement continued. “The loss was sudden and unexpected but blessed by the fact that Sam remained cancer free. They would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff at St Vincent’s Private Hospital for their incredible care. More details will be shared later, but for now, on behalf of the family, we ask that you respect their privacy as they navigate this immeasurable loss.”
Neill announced in 2023 that he had been diagnosed with a rare blood cancer, but in April of this year, he was declared cancer-free.
The actor, who was born in Northern Ireland, was instantly recognizable for his starring role in “Jurassic Park,” but Neill almost didn’t get the role as there was a lot of competition in Hollywood. Ultimately, the star was picked for the part of Dr. Alan Grant after Harrison Ford turned it down.
“I like playing villains and bad guys, characters with moral ambiguity, because, in a way, they are easier to play,” he <a href="https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1993-06-13-ca-2614-story.html">told</a> the Los Angeles Times when the film debuted in 1993.
He also appeared in films including “The Hunt For Red October” and “The Piano” along with popular television shows such as, “The Tudors” and “Peaky Blinders.”
In 1993, Neill <a href="https://www.twopaddocks.com/the-story/">opened a vineyard</a> in New Zealand and saw its continued success as being a major part of his legacy beyond his film career.
He said during an interview with Esquire U.K. in 2016, “It doesn’t matter how popular an actor you are, nobody will remember you forever. Acting is ephemeral so it’s nice if you can leave something behind, like a great wine or a beautiful house that has a legacy.”
Neill is survived by four children and eight grandchildren. Neill&#8217;s son Andrew was placed for adoption when he was a baby, and he and Neill connected later in life and developed a relationship, which the actor detailed in his memoir, “Did I Ever Tell You This?”
Neill was previously in a long-term relationship with New Zealand actress Lisa Harrow and was later married to Japanese makeup artist Noriko Watanabe from 1989 until 2017.
The actor took pride in his craft and was not interested in the celebrity lifestyle.
“I do hope I’m not a celebrity because … I think it’s two different jobs,” he told the Sydney Morning Herald in 2023. “You can be an actor — hopefully a very good actor — but it’s another job to be a celebrity, and that’s one you can sign up for or not. And I never signed up for that. I’ve avoided that like the plague.&#8221;
“The winemaking thing is absolutely half my life and has been immensely rewarding, and it’s very different from everything else that I do. I’m sort of … half-farmer, half-thespian, if you like,” Neill said.

It’s a shame that “Saturday Night Live” is on its annual summer break. Otherwise, we’d laugh about the show ignoring the scandals coming out of the Graham Platner camp.
Except it’s not actually funny.
Once upon a time, when a politician stepped on a rake, a crush of comedians would rise up to tease them. That fueled late-night king Johnny Carson’s decades-long reign, among many others.
Carlin. Sahl. Klein. Miller. Bruce.
Politicians, in turn, had to watch their backs. That was good for their political futures and good for the country, too.
Now, we have a new generation of political figures charitably described as comedy gold. Hunter Biden. AOC. Sen. Elizabeth Warren. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani. And, of course, Platner.
The problem? They’re all Democrats, and the current comedy zeitgeist won’t lay a glove on them. Meanwhile, every Republican in the public arena is mercilessly mocked for both real and <a href="https://www.youtube.com/shorts/QI9598HwDw8">imagined flaws</a>.
Night after night after night.
It’s something mystery author novelist <a href="https://x.com/DanFriedman81/status/2074238525948510574">Daniel Friedman called out on X.</a>
This is not harmless and this is not meaningless. Democrats have successfully incepted the idea into voters’ heads that Republicans are absurd, clownish and unqualified and the one-sided mockery in entertainment media has helped to spread this lie when the Democrats are actually a collection of hideous weirdos and circus freaks that media has somehow convinced you are normal.
Why would comedians ignore political targets just because they align with their world view? Call it the Palin Effect.
Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin was new to the national scene when Sen. John McCain selected her as his running mate in 2008. “SNL” tasked cast member Tina Fey to portray Palin as a bumpkin, a rube who told the audience she could see Russia from her house.
The impression, to Fey’s credit, was solid gold. And it stuck in the public psyche. Some actually believed the real Palin uttered that “Russia” quote. The moment showed the comedy community that their skits and yuks can impact public opinion.
It’s no accident “SNL” took a hard-Left turn following that election cycle. Even “SNL” cast member Jay Pharoah, who portrayed President Barack Obama on the show, later admitted the show’s brain trust <a href="https://www.hollywoodintoto.com/jay-pharoah-snl-obama/">“gave up on the Obama thing</a>,” meaning it pulled its punches on a sitting president.
Why? He wasn’t a Republican.
Both parties have their fair share of political embarrassments. Colorado Republicans just nominated Victor Marx, a man who told an interviewer that it <a href="https://nymag.com/intelligencer/article/victor-marx-wont-say-how-many-people-hes-killed.html">doesn’t matter how many people he’s killed</a>, to be the next governor.
That’s just the tip of the unhinged Marx iceberg.
Marx’s ramblings already snagged the attention of “Real Time with Bill Maher,” “The Daily Show,” and “Last Week Tonight.” That’s both appropriate and predictable.
Expect more national ribbing in the weeks to come. And, as Desi Lydic did on her “Daily Show” skewering, they <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qILf3Wcpew4&amp;t=306s">might tie Marx to the GOP brand</a>. Heck, you can bank on that.
Late-night hosts typically ignore Democrats behaving badly. When Jimmy Kimmel finally gave Platner a full-bodied mention, he used the alleged rapist to somehow <a href="https://www.hollywoodintoto.com/jimmy-kimmel-graham-platner-trump-gop/">smear the GOP</a>.
That’s the level of dishonesty in comedy circles today. That’s the same Kimmel who threw softballs at First Son Hunter Biden during his 2021 book tour.
Meanwhile, the cultural Right has done little to balance the scales. Fox News’ “Gutfeld!” may be a late-night ratings winner, but it’s essentially a panel show aimed at a pre-sold conservative crowd.
The show doesn’t do comedy sketches that might go viral and engage those who might otherwise watch “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” or the left-leaning “Tonight Show.”
The right-leaning Babylon Bee has done some solid sketch comedy in recent years, but the site relegates its toughest political gags to its fake news stories, not its YouTube channel.
Social media fills some of the gaps, with amateur late-night hosts cracking wise or creating memes that deconstruct Democrats. The platforms’ algorithms likely keep those funny bits to one side of the aisle only.
The comic gold, meanwhile, will only get richer. Consider the stunning rise of Democratic socialists and their tried-and-failed policies. Not to mention all the antisemitism.
Colorado Democrat Melat Kiros is so far Left that she couldn’t call the Boulder thug who firebombed a Jewish <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/5952491-weiser-kiros-antisemitism-debate/">gathering an antisemite</a>.
New York City Mayor Mamdani embraces socialism while enjoying prime viewing seats at the World Cup (and other perks). That might be worth a gag or two. (But we’ll never see it.)
This may read as a conservative complaint. And it is. Partially. There’s a larger, bipartisan issue in play.
Comedians, at their best, hold politicians accountable and keep them on the straight and narrow. When a gaggle of Democrats betrayed the nation’s COVID-19 restrictions in 2020, they should have been mocked so aggressively that they loosened those protocols.
The country would have been freer and equally safe from the virus, as we later learned. Instead, they kept up the charade because Kimmel &amp; co. didn’t lay a glove on them.
Plus, if a Platner-style candidate got raked over the comedy coals in the early days of his senatorial push, he might have dropped out months ago. His campaign may never have gained that early head of steam.
Instead, he dragged his party down with him as more scandals emerged, hurting both the Democrat brand and the country.
Our Court Jester Class has let us down. And the future holds little hope of any improvement.

TV writer Rebecca Sonnenshine recently defended making her latest project, a reboot of the beloved series “Little House on the Prairie,” a lot more woke.
At this point, it would be more surprising if she had left politics out of it. And to hear her tell it, the word “woke” has lost its meaning anyway. But Sonnenshine did go on record defending the aspect of the new storyline which conservatives are most likely to take issue with, namely, making a local Native American family a key feature of the show despite them not being featured prominently in the best-selling books.
While Laura Ingalls and her family are still main characters, much attention is paid to the mixed-race Osage family, the Mitchells, as Variety noted in an <a href="https://variety.com/2026/tv/news/netflix-little-house-on-the-prairie-woke-comments-tradwife-1236804646/">interview</a> with the showrunner.
“As an adult, everything is different. Especially ‘Little House on the Prairie,’ it’s all about the Osage,” Sonnenshine says. “The Osage are all over that book, but we don’t know them at all. And I thought, well, we have to know them. I have to figure out a way that we can know them, and how do you do that? Trying to create a family that parallels the Ingalls. I had to do a lot of research to figure out how to do that, and I did and we worked with a story consultant named Robert Warrior,” Sonnenshine told the outlet. 
“I’m not even sure what ‘woke’ means to people anymore, to be honest,” she went on. “I know what I think it means, which is the definition of it being aware and alert to social injustice and prejudice, in particular racial prejudice. So, when people say, ‘I hope it’s not woke,’ I think, ‘Really? Oh, that’s interesting.’ But I don’t think people are using it in that manner; I think it’s just become a catch-all word for things that I don’t quite understand. If I had to sum it up, what people are afraid of is that something from their childhood will be portrayed in a way that scares them.”
Sonnenshine reiterated what she’s “been saying from the beginning,” which is, “I feel like people are worried for no reason.”
A Slate reviewer <a href="https://slate.com/culture/2026/07/little-house-on-the-prairie-netflix-series-2026-reboot-laura-ingalls-wilder.html">agreed</a> that the “Little House” reboot has indeed been altered to suit progressive sensibilities. 
“There’s no other way for me to put this: Netflix did indeed woke-ify Little House on the Prairie,” wrote Rebecca Onion. “This new version makes a deep bow to contemporary concerns about the politics of the source material. Some of the Ingalls family’s closest new friends on the show are an Osage couple, a black doctor and black storekeeper, and a French Canadian woman who wears trousers and practices free love.”
She also notes a new antagonist in the form of a stodgy, traditionalist family. 
“Netflix’s Ingalls family are good people, even by 2026 standards, and you can see it in contrast with the Jameses,” she writes. “The Jameses are town-dwelling rich folk who don’t appear in the Little House books but seem to be an adaptation of the Oleson family … The Jameses’ vision for Independence — hierarchy,  respectability, a church, a school — first seduces, then repels, the more gentle-minded Ingallses, Ma and Mary. The James matriarch, Jemma, played by Mary Holland, brings a welcome comedic hateability to this sunny show.” 
Prominent conservatives predicted this long before it happened. Podcast host Megyn Kelly <a href="https://x.com/megynkelly/status/1884765394914681141">posted</a> on X in January, “Netflix, if you woke-ify ‘Little House on the Prairie’ I will make it my singular mission to absolutely ruin your project.” 
This prompted actress Melissa Gilbert, who starred on the original “Little House” series for nine seasons between 1974 and 1982, to reply, “Ummm…watch the original again. TV doesn’t get too much more ‘woke’ than we did. We tackled: racism, addiction, nativism, antisemitism, misogyny, rape, spousal abuse, and every other ‘woke ‘ topic you can think of. Thank you very much.”
Gilbert has been making headlines lately as she defends her husband, Timothy Busfield, amid allegations of child sexual abuse.
The new Little House on the Prairie adaptation debuted all 8 episodes of its first season on Netflix on July 9. The show has been officially renewed for a second season.

Filmmaker Justin Baldoni publicly addressed his legal battle with former &#8220;It Ends With Us&#8221; co-star Blake Lively for the first time Wednesday night, saying he and his wife chose to remain silent throughout the litigation until the case was resolved. 
“We have not spoken publicly for the better part of the last two years, and it’s not because we haven’t had anything to say, because Lord knows we have,” Baldoni said in a video he posted alongside his wife, Emily. “But it just felt like every time we went to make a video like this, we wanted to speak, something was telling us not to. It just didn’t feel like the right time, and we were talking about it and feeling into it and praying about it.”

Emily agreed, saying there was “so much to say” about the drama with Lively. 
“We’ve had to wrestle with so many things and try to understand so many things,” Emily Baldoni said. “Like, how could something like this even happen? Let alone disguised as a fight for women.&#8221;
Baldoni said he intentionally didn’t add to the conversation until the case was settled. The filmmaker also thanked all his supporters for listening to his side.
“You have given your time to fight for us, and thank you does not feel like enough,” he said. “But we’re here, in large part, because of so many of you and all of our friends and family. One thing that we’ve learned is that when God presses the reset button and everything else is stripped away, that’s when love shows up, and we feel so loved.”
The legal drama between the former co-stars started in December 2024 when Lively filed a lawsuit against Baldoni accusing him of sexual harassment, retaliation, and attempting to “destroy” her reputation. This came after she starred opposite Baldoni in “It Ends With Us,” a film he also directed.
Baldoni fervently denied the claims and filed a countersuit against his co-star and her husband, actor Ryan Reynolds. The judge dismissed the countersuit in June 2025. The parties reached a settlement in May 2026. 
Baldoni also sued The New York Times for $250 million in a defamation claim for an article about the situation, which he says is “rife with inaccuracies, misrepresentations, and omissions.”

The 2026 <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2026/07/08/entertainment/emmy-award-nominations-2026">Emmy nominations</a> were released on Wednesday, delivering several surprise nominees alongside a handful of notable snubs. 
“The Pitt” led all series with 25 nominations. The comedy-drama “Hacks” followed with 24 total noms in its final season, while HBO Max dominated all other outlets with 122 nominations overall, including three shows up for both Best Overall Drama and Best Overall Comedy.
One of the surprise hits was “Widow’s Bay,” a buzzy, unique horror-comedy on Apple TV starring Matthew Rhys, which earned 19 nominations. It gained traction several weeks after its debut thanks to word of mouth and rave reviews from critics.
The New York Times reviewer said of the Apple TV offering, “A laugh and a scare are different outcomes of the same achievement, a good surprise, and ‘Widow’s Bay’ has more of those than there are fish in the sea.”
Filmmaker Guillermo del Toro called the series “one of the most mesmerizing acts of narrative prestidigitation in horror” and even, “the best streaming series in a long time.”
“Pluribus,” a hit from famed creator Vince Gilligan, got 18 total nominations, including a Best Actress in a Drama nomination for “Better Call Saul” alum Rhea Seahorn. 
Apple TV also landed Best Comedy Series nominations for “Margo’s Got Money Troubles” and “Shrinking.”
Stephen Colbert has <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/america-waves-goodbye-to-stephen-colbert-as-trump-lands-a-final-parting-shot">made a lot of noise</a> after his “Late Show With Stephen Colbert” got canceled, but the show ended up with the most nominations ever in its 11-year run, scoring 9 total. 
Notable snubs this year include “The Bear,” which earned a few nominations but fewer than in prior years, and no Best Actor recognition for Jeremy Allen White.

Emmy Nominations 2026: Biggest Surprises And Snubs

According to a recent Bloomberg <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/newsletters/2026-07-05/netflix-viewers-are-abandoning-shows-after-one-season">report</a>, Netflix audiences have been abandoning shows after one season and not coming back for more.
The report said that “One Piece,” which was one of Netflix’s most-watched shows in 2023, lost more than 30% of its audience for the second season, which debuted in 2026. “Beef” was another popular show for the streaming giant when it launched in 2023. But Bloomberg reported that season two had a massive reduction in audience — more than 70% — in 2026 as well. 
“The Night Agent” lost half of its audience in season two and saw another 35% decline in season three, the outlet noted.
This report has inspired a lot of feedback on social media from TV viewers who mostly say the biggest issue is the long wait between seasons, which didn’t exist before streaming services took over the entertainment industry.
“A television show has 1) approximately 22 episodes, 2) that are 43 minutes in length, 3) that air weekly, 4) every year … Netflix is confused by all four of these criteria,” one commenter <a href="https://x.com/MadcapMcQ/status/2074608223999377907">wrote</a>.
Another person <a href="https://x.com/RaithwallRover/status/2073907596537299359">added</a>, “1. The gap between seasons is too long. 2. The binge model is bad for building long-term emotional investment. You watch all of a season in a week and then forget about it. This is obvious. It’s amazing that after all these years and all their data, they still don’t [realize] it.”
A third commenter said the same, writing, “Too few episodes and seasons too far apart. A series should come out annually. Especially when it’s as short as 6-8 episodes. Taking 2-4 years between seasons. People stop caring. This isn’t a complicated problem.”
Many also called out television&#8217;s shift toward woke messaging and the way leftist elements are often introduced in follow-up seasons. 
“Because: Season 2 (any show) kick off meeting — ‘Ok, good 1st season! In Season 2 we&#8217;re going to bring the special sauce!  Thomas is going to come out as a trans, and his wife will have a lesbian affair with a trans black woman who is [in] a relationship with an underage trans man. &#8230;  This sh*t is gold!!’ And that&#8217;s why Netflix viewers go elsewhere,” one person observed.

Netflix Viewers Abandon Shows In Droves After One Season, And The Audience Has Feedback

“The Odyssey” is predicted to be the biggest hit of the summer, but it’s already getting a lot of backlash for various reasons, especially when it comes to casting.
Chief among these complaints is the fact that Christopher Nolan cast Elliot Page, a woman masquerading as a man, in one of the roles, and that Lupita Nyong&#8217;o, a Kenyan-Mexican actress, will play Helen of Troy.
Nyong’o isn’t making anything easier on herself as she just criticized Homer for his treatment of women. 
&#8220;I want you to imagine, really quick, that you&#8217;re sitting in a movie theater, and you&#8217;re sitting next to Homer,&#8221; interviewer Jake Hamilton said. &#8220;Let&#8217;s say he speaks English. This has led to backlash online, as fans point out that the actress looks nothing like Helen of Troy as described in Greek mythology. “The Iliad” describes her as “white-armed” or “pale-armed,” while in “Doctor Faustus,” her face is said to be so beautiful that it “launched a thousand ships.”
Some critics are speculating that Nolan may have chosen a “diverse” cast in homage to DEI standards — and potential Academy Award nominations.
The movie is already getting rave reviews from mainstream critics, but the reactions on social media are a lot more mixed. YouTube no longer shows the number of dislikes on videos, but some estimates that use a workaround to see YouTube dislikes show the film’s <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AyIZ9tiiN8I">final trailer</a> has over 500,000 thumbs-down reactions. ‘Odyssey’ Actress Imagines Schooling Homer On His Treatment Of Women

Notorious anti-Trump singer Bruce Springsteen claims that criticizing President Trump actually makes him a patriot.
“I believe in critical patriotism,” the New Jersey-based entertainer said during his recent PBS special, “Bruce Springsteen: Finding America in Song.”
He added, “I believe that’s the definition of a patriot, you know, that you love your country so much that you are willing to look at it clearly, recognize its faults, encourage it to be a better place, and believe that you carry in your heart the country that is waiting.”
Springsteen recently ended his “Land of Hope and Dreams” tour, which was filled with political protest and Trump-bashing galore, as The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nobody-cares-bruce-springsteen-mocked-for-tirade-against-trump">reported</a>.
The far-left singer, 76, made endless political statements during the tour, both on and off the stage. “There’s some very weird, strange, and dangerous sh*t going on out there right now,” he said during his Manchester stop.
“In America, they are persecuting people for using their right to free speech and voicing their dissent. This is happening now. In America, the richest men are taking satisfaction in abandoning the world’s poorest children to sickness and death.”
On the topic of the Trump administration targeting illegal aliens for deportation, Springsteen said, “They are removing residents off American streets and without due process of law, are deporting them to foreign detention centers and prisons.”
“In my country they’re taking sadistic pleasure in the pain they inflict on loyal American workers. They’re rolling back historic civil rights legislation that has led to a more just and plural society,” the singer said at another point. “They are abandoning our great allies and siding with dictators against those struggling for their freedom. They are defunding American universities that won’t bow down to their ideological demands.”
But Trump has not accepted the criticism in silence. Recently, the president made his opinion known, calling for a MAGA boycott against Springsteen and his shows.
“Bad, and very boring singer, Bruce Springsteen, who looks like a dried up prune who has suffered greatly from the work of a really bad plastic surgeon, has long had a horrible and incurable case of Trump Derangement Syndrome, sometimes referred to as TDS,” the president <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/116334990675013056">wrote</a>, echoing what many on social media were saying. “The guy is a total loser who spews hate against a President who won a Landslide Election, including the popular vote, all Seven Swing States, and 86% of the Counties across America.”
