Comedian Bowen Yang has been the latest actor cast in the lead role of the Broadway show “Oh, Mary!” 
Yang isn’t the first male star to put on a dress to portray the wife of President Abraham Lincoln. Several other non-binary, gender non-conforming, and gay men have been in the role previously as part of the shtick. Yang discussed the unique spin he’ll put on the character in terms of gender.
“I&#8217;m not afraid to be masculine in this Mary,” Yang <a href="https://www.vulture.com/article/bowen-yang-oh-mary-casting-interview.html">said </a>in an interview with Vulture. “Mary having a complete delusion about her skills versus how other people perceive her feels very male to me, in a way that I relate with.” 
Director Sam Pinkleton told the outlet he has high expectations for the former “SNL” cast member. “I think Bowen&#8217;s Mary will be particularly intense,” he said. “Bowen&#8217;s Mary might be a real viper. She will be very strong.”
Yang will succeed current star Meg Stalter, who began her own run July 6 and is set to continue through September 12. Other men who have filled the role include Tituss Burgess, Jinkx Monsoon (a drag queen who identifies as a woman but is a man), and John Cameron Mitchell.
The show premiered off-Broadway in 2024 in a run that was extended three times before being transferred to Broadway later that year. It’s currently at the Lyceum Theatre, breaking a record there as the first show in the theatre’s history to gross more than $1 million in one week.

“Oh, Mary! is a dark comedy about a miserable, suffocated Mary Todd Lincoln in the weeks leading up to Abraham Lincoln’s assassination. Unrequited yearning, alcoholism, and suppressed desires abound in this 80-minute one-act play that finally examines the forgotten life and dreams of Mrs. Lincoln, through the lens of an idiot (playwright Cole Escola),” it says.
Yang said he was offered the role before but turned it down. Now that he’s left “SNL,” he’s ready to take on the responsibility, which he decided after seeing the show for the fifth time.
“It’s a show that is at first about regrets, in the way that I regretted letting this offer go,” Yang told Vulture. “Mary feels trapped by her own decisions and then she understands that it is, in fact, other people’s decisions that have sort of kept her in this place.”
Yang decided to leave “SNL” after being a cast member for seven seaons because he “never felt central” to the show. “I never played the dad or the straight-man teacher. I was always there as the seasoning,” the comedian <a href="https://x.com/Variety/status/2063974325070254111?lang=en">said</a> earlier this summer.

Gossip blogger Perez Hilton is reportedly recovering in the hospital following an <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/gossip-blogger-perez-hilton-sparks-police-response-with-disturbing-video">incident</a> of him appearing to engage in self-harm during a livestream, police have confirmed.
The popular online personality exhibited the disturbing behavior late Tuesday night, prompting multiple followers to call emergency responders to intervene. Hilton appeared completely nude holding a knife and appeared to be using it to cut himself. 
Emergency personnel were dispatched to his South Florida home and have now confirmed that he has been taken to the hospital and is recovering.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff&#8217;s Office <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/perez-hilton-hospitalized-reports-livestream-self-harm-rcna590901">said</a> in a statement that an individual, believed to be Hilton, had been &#8220;safely recovered&#8221; and taken to &#8220;a local hospital, where he is receiving medical attention.”
Police said after arriving on scene, they opted to &#8220;tactically disengage while continuing to monitor the situation.&#8221;
&#8220;In many incidents involving a person experiencing a mental health crisis or actively harming themselves, deputies prioritize de-escalation by creating time, distance, and opportunities for communication,&#8221; authorities said. &#8220;Unless there is an immediate threat to others, slowing the situation and utilizing crisis intervention techniques can reduce the likelihood of a suicide-by-cop encounter and minimize the risk of injury to the individual, deputies, and the public.&#8221;
Hilton, whose real name is Mario Lavandeira Jr., was home alone during the time of the live stream, NBC News <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/perez-hilton-hospitalized-reports-livestream-self-harm-rcna590901">reported</a>. His TikTok account was suspended following the graphic livestream on Tuesday.
The co-CEOs of Golden Artists Entertainment, the talent management firm that represents Hilton, said in a statement Tuesday night that they “are aware of the concerning content circulating online involving our client, Perez Hilton.”
“At this time, we have not been able to make direct contact with him, despite our ongoing efforts to reach him,” Dante Rusciolelli and Rebekah Kochan said. “Our primary concern is Perez’s health and well-being, as well as the well-being of his family.”
Hilton rose to fame operating a snarky celebrity gossip blog, which he has since said was a form of bullying and not behavior he wishes to engage in any longer.
He recently announced on social media that he was moving from Las Vegas to Florida with his three children. “Manifesting abundance, manifesting just family, peace, good times,” Hilton said of the change in June. “Manifesting health, good health — that’s what’s most important.”

Singer Ariana Grande plans to step back from the public spotlight after wrapping up her “Eternal Sunshine” tour next month, with her representative citing relentless public scrutiny as the reason. 
“Ariana will be taking a step back from visibility after she completes the Eternal Sunshine Tour,” a statement from the rep said.
“She looks forward to finishing the tour and ending it on a high note, both healthily and happily, and then taking a much-deserved break from public-facing work and appearances, which has led to endless, ongoing public scrutiny,” the statement continued. “This tour has been a beautiful experience for her. She loves her fans and has loved every minute of this tour so much.”

Carly Simon, the songwriter most famous for “You’re So Vain,” revealed to her fans on Monday that she&#8217;s been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.
“So many people have written to me, kindly wondering about my relative silence, asking how I am and what I have been doing,” Simon wrote in a letter to her audience <a href="https://people.com/carly-simon-reveals-parkinsons-disease-cancer-diagnosis-12020645">obtained</a> by People magazine. “The truth is, I’ve been learning how to live with Parkinson’s disease.”
Simon, 83, said the decline in her health first came when arthritis in her knees and hip forced her to get those three joints replaced “with delicate bouquets of metal and plastic.” Her mobility continued to worsen.
“Eventually, there were periods when I could not walk without considerable help,” Simon noted. “My family and I knew that something more was going on. After an extensive evaluation at the Mayo Clinic, I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s.”
Simon explained that she has taken the time to live with the illness.
“There is no tidy or predictable schedule to the illness. It does not consult my calendar before deciding what kind of day I am going to have,” Simon said. “You can find yourself lying there like a starfish drying in the sun, arms pointing in all directions, while nothing inside is telling you to get up, read, watch, write, sing, call someone, or do much of anything at all,” she continued.
“I do not consider Parkinson’s a gift or a blessing,” Simon added. “It is neither. It is difficult, frustrating, and sometimes frightening. I am still learning how to live with it and how to accept it without feeling that I have surrendered something essential.”
Along with adjusting to life with Parkinson’s, Simon underwent surgery for basal cell carcinoma, a form of skin cancer, on her face.
“The cancer was removed, but the surgery affected my appearance and made me more self-conscious about being seen in public,” she said. “I have always been more critical of my appearance than anyone else could possibly imagine (check out the irony of having written ‘You’re So Vain.’), and this gave my inner critic quite a lot of new material.”
Despite all the complications she has faced, Simon has assured her fans, “I have not stopped living, and I have not stopped working.”
In her letter, Simon announced her new album, Comes in Waves, her first original full-length album since 2008. It will include fragments of songs that Simon wrote down and tucked away throughout her musical career.
Simon ended her letter thanking her family, friends, and medical staff who have helped her through her medical experiences.
Simon <a href="https://www.grammy.com/artists/carly-simon/6577/">won</a> two Grammys during her career, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in November 2022. Simon has 206,000 followers on <a href="https://www.instagram.com/carlysimonhq/?hl=en">Instagram</a> and over 6.5 million monthly listeners on <a href="https://open.spotify.com/artist/4FtSnMlCVxCswABUmdhwpm">Spotify</a>. 
One of Simon’s last public appearances occurred in October 2019, when she promoted &#8220;Touched by the Sun: My Friendship with Jackie,&#8221; a memoir about her friendship with former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. Her last public performance occurred in March 2018 at Carnegie Hall.

Despite all the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ed-harris-said-he-almost-quit-dutton-ranch-get-me-the-f-out-of-here">complaining</a> he did about the significance of his role on “Dutton Ranch,” actor Ed Harris will reportedly be returning for season two.
Per sources who spoke with <a href="https://deadline.com/2026/07/ed-harris-returning-dutton-ranch-season-2-showrunner-change-1236999568/">Deadline</a>, the second season of the popular “Yellowstone” spinoff has already been picked up by the network, and Harris’s character will be part of the story to some degree.
Harris, 75, made headlines earlier this week after going on a rant about how small his role was in the show. He did eventually admit that he thought the series was “pretty good” overall.
“Midway through the first season, I was ready to say, ‘get me the f*ck out of here,’ to tell you the truth,” Harris said on the red carpet for Apple TV’s “The Dink.” “I didn’t feel I was being used. I felt very misled. Prior to signing on for it, I was talked to quite a bit about what the season was, and what my character was going to do, and that I was one of the four main characters. And that wasn’t really the case.”
He brought up how one scene of him singing in a bar got cut from the finished product. “They said it was too ‘up’ for the dark ending of the episode … I’m like, ‘F*ck you people!’ That, to me, is reason enough to say, ‘I’m voiding my contract,’” Harris said.
“Dutton Ranch” showrunner Chad Feehan left the series ahead of the premiere due to behind-the-scenes friction. The Deadline sources claimed that this was potentially due to how Harris’s character arc was handled, and said the actor was involved in choosing Feehan’s replacement. Paramount+ has not issued any public statements on these claims.
“Yellowstone” creator and “Dutton Ranch” executive producer Taylor Sheridan has made it a habit to underutilize big stars. He’s addressed this in the past, saying he’s well aware it can cause controversy. He did the same with Demi Moore on “Landman.”
“The critics are going to come after me. I’m underutilizing [Moore], can’t write for women, all this nonsense. Then I’m going to kill your husband and you’re going to have to run the oil company. The 75-year-old star plays Everett McKinney, an ally to Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler, on the popular “Yellowstone” spinoff show. But he <a href="https://variety.com/2026/tv/news/ed-harris-misled-dutton-ranch-paramount-taylor-sheridan-1236816999/">told</a> Variety he believed the role was going to be more significant, which led to negative feelings.

“I said, ‘I’m feeling underused and inconsequential,’ and they kind of went, ‘Oh,&#8217;” Harris said. “I’m being told my character will have a little bit more to do [in Season 2]. I was just a little frustrated, to tell you the truth,” he added, saying his commitment was for two seasons.
“When I watched the season, it’s fine, it’s pretty good. It seemed like I was relatively important to the story, but the doing of it didn’t feel that way,&#8221; he explained. &#8220;What really pissed me off, to tell you the truth, is the first episode, or the second, they told me before I got to sign on that you get to sing in the bar … and they cut it! Actress Sharon Stone said she experienced significant withdrawal symptoms after quitting marijuana, warning others that the pot people smoke today is very different from what it was decades ago.
The 68-year-old “Basic Instinct” star discussed what happened after using cannabis following a stroke she suffered in 2001.
“I got off one of my medications that I was on for my stroke last September, and they said I couldn’t go off of it,” Stone said during an <a href="https://variety.com/2026/film/columns/sharon-stone-quitting-weed-stopping-stroke-medication-like-going-off-of-heroin-1236816916/">interview</a> with Variety. “They said, ‘You can’t go off of it. You can never go off of it.’ I’m like, ‘I’m going off it,’ and it was like going off of f*cking heroin. I was sick as a frigging dog for four and a half months. I just thought, ‘I want my life back.’ I had gotten off the majority of the drugs over the years that they had put me on. But I was like, ‘I want a drug-free life.’”
“Once I got off that, I decided I’m going to quit smoking pot. And because I think they put so much stuff in it now — they really do — when I stopped smoking pot, I also got sick,” she added. “It’s not like you’re pulling it out of the ground anymore. It’s not like when we were kids. I got pretty sick for a month. I went to my neurologist, and he said, ‘Sharon, I’ve had people dying in the emergency room from marijuana.’”
Stone previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/sharon-stone-said-she-lost-18m-after-her-2001-stroke-people-took-advantage-of-me">complained</a> that the stroke had cost her millions of dollars and ruined relationships.
&#8220;People took advantage of me during that time. I had $18 million saved because of all my success, but when I got back into my bank account, it was all gone. My refrigerator, my phone — everything was in other people’s names,” Stone told The Hollywood Reporter in 2024. “I had zero money,” she added.
The stroke occurred when Stone was 43. The Academy Award nominee noticed her body felt numb, and there was a “terrible pain” in her head. She was diagnosed with a brain bleed and given a 1% chance of survival at the time.

Longtime Journey band member Jonathan Cain shared some strong criticisms about far-Left activist Bruce Springsteen, basically telling him to stop talking politics and perform.
“Guys like Bruce Springsteen should shut up, you know,” the keyboardist told The Complete Disaster Network podcast. “Honestly, shut up, Bruce.”
Cain, who is conservative, did the <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AdHnBWt_hDc">interview</a> back in May but is just now going viral with his comments after it was featured on Blabbermouth and Ultimate Classic Rock over the weekend. Springsteen has been making headlines recently for aggressively anti-Trump rhetoric during his “Land of Hope and Dreams” tour.
“Bruce, I mean, what the heck? I used to like him, and now he’s just annoying,” the “Don’t Stop Believin’” co-writer added. “He’s an annoying, bitter old man. I mean, stop it.”
Cain may be conservative, but he said it’s not something that comes up during performances.
“Now, people say, ‘Well, you’re Christian, and you’re conservative,’” the musician said during the podcast appearance. “And I’m like, ‘So what?’ I don’t preach it on stage. I don’t spend 10 minutes talking about it.”
“You know, you were ‘Born in the USA,’ weren’t you, dude? So act like it,” Cain went on. “But even that song, if you look at the lyrics, I mean, it’s a kind of a diss to our country.”
The far-Left singer, 76, made <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/bruce-springsteen-doubles-down-on-trump-bashing-calls-it-patriotic">endless political statements</a> during the tour, both on and off the stage. “There’s some very weird, strange, and dangerous sh*t going on out there right now,” Springsteen said during his Manchester stop.
“In America, they are persecuting people for using their right to free speech and voicing their dissent. This is happening now. In America, the richest men are taking satisfaction in abandoning the world’s poorest children to sickness and death.”
He also criticized the Trump administration’s handling of illegal immigration and claimed they were “taking sadistic pleasure in the pain they inflict on loyal American workers.”
President Trump shot back with a social media post laying out exactly how he felt about Springsteen’s endless tirades.
“Bad, and very boring singer, Bruce Springsteen, who looks like a dried up prune who has suffered greatly from the work of a really bad plastic surgeon, has long had a horrible and incurable case of Trump Derangement Syndrome, sometimes referred to as TDS,” the president wrote, echoing what many on social media were saying. “The guy is a total loser who spews hate against a President who won a Landslide Election, including the popular vote, all Seven Swing States, and 86% of the Counties across America.”

Irish actor Brenda Fricker, best known for her performances in “My Left Foot” and “Home Alone 2,” died Thursday evening at age 81.
Her agent Phil Belfield <a href="https://www.tmz.com/2026/07/17/brenda-fricker-dead/">told</a> TMZ that she passed away peacefully in her home in Dublin from an undisclosed illness.
&#8220;We will never see her again and the world is less for the lack of her,” Belfield said. “I was honored to know, love, and work with her, and she will always have a place in my heart and in the heart of so many film and TV fans the world over.&#8221;

Derek Thompson, who worked with Fricker on the TV show Casualty, <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c0m70zremezo">told</a> BBC News that Fricker was &#8220;truly the best I have ever worked with, and I&#8217;ve worked with a lot of actors.”
Cathy Shipton, who also worked with Fricker on Casualty, added that Fricker was &#8220;one of the most authentic people I&#8217;ve ever met&#8221;.
&#8220;She lived her life courageously, warts and all. I loved her for her wit, her intelligence and her brilliant sense of humour,&#8221; Shipton said.
Actress Fionnula Flanagan <a href="https://www.rte.ie/entertainment/2026/0717/1583885-irish-film-world-pays-tribute-to-brenda-fricker/">told</a> RTE News that she was &#8220;totally devastated&#8221; after hearing of Fricker’s passing and described Fricker’s Oscar win as a paradigm moment for Irish cinema.
Flanagan added that Fricker was a “great talent” which was “terribly important for Ireland because at the time we didn’t have a film industry … She was one of the leaders of that movement.&#8221;

Fricker was born in Dublin and gained acting experience with the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre, <a href="https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0002084/">according</a> to IMDb. 
She won international acclaim for her Oscar-winning supporting performance as the mother of a son afflicted with cerebral palsy in “My Left Foot”.
She also played acclaimed roles in classics such as “Angels in the Outfield.” She is best known among younger audiences for playing the part of the introspective pigeon lady in “Home Alone 2.” 
She persevered in her acting career, all while struggling to support an alcoholic husband and losing all six of her children to miscarriages.

“Sex and the City” actress Cynthia Nixon has been appointed to screen New York judges despite having no legal training or experience whatsoever.
The leftist activist and failed gubernatorial candidate was just appointed to serve on the Commission on Judicial Nomination by New York Chief Judge Rowan Wilson, as the New York Post first <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/07/16/us-news/cynthia-nixon-appointed-to-panel-that-screens-recommends-ny-judges/">reported</a>.
“The Commission’s mandate is a powerful one: the Constitution requires that the Governor choose Judges of the Court of Appeals only from the nominees of the Commission,” the panel’s website says. 
Nixon, who is a fervent supporter of “trans rights” and other radical leftist causes, ran for governor in 2018 and endorsed democratic socialist candidate Zohran Mamdani for New York City mayor last year. Her appointment to the commission is seen as yet another negative consequence of Mamdani’s win.
“This is part of the damage [Mamdani] will do to NYC. Long after he’s gone the effects of the leftist lunatics will continue because they will be [embedded] in public offices. F*ck everyone who voted for this snake,” one X commenter <a href="https://x.com/nypost/status/2077834145141502154">wrote</a>. 
Nixon describes herself as “the mother of a proud trans man” and has <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/sex-and-the-city-actress-rallies-over-trans-medical-procedures-for-minors">spoken publicly</a> about the issue.
“My wife and I, our lives are filled with the most amazing, beautiful, brave trans people, young and old… but especially young,” the actress said at one New York rally last year. “My trans kid had his top surgery at NYU a number of years ago,” she continued. “…the idea that this city is filled with young people who thought they had a place to go where they could receive the highest care and that place has now been shut to them, sickens me. Sickens me to my core.” 
Nixon described President Trump’s inauguration and subsequent executive order to protect children from irreversible gender procedures as “horrific” and “an assault.” 
In the past, the “SATC” star has also <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/cynthia-nixon-denounces-anti-shoplifting-laws-stealing-basic-necessities">denounced anti-shoplifting laws</a> and has <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/candidate-new-york-governor-cynthia-nixon-calls-frank-camp">referred to</a> Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as a “terrorist organization” all the way back in 2018.
Former prosecutor Saritha Komatireddy told the Post that Nixon’s appointment proves that things are going downhill in New York. “Appointing a celebrity activist with zero legal background to help shape the future of our judiciary sends the wrong message entirely,” she told the outlet.
“This is part of a broader trend in New York: politics increasingly taking precedence over public safety and common sense,” Komatireddy added. “At a deeply critical time when New Yorkers are demanding safer streets and greater confidence in our institutions, our leaders should be focused on restoring trust in the justice system and not turning judicial appointments into a political game.”

‘Sex and the City’ Actress Appointed To Help Pick NYC Judges

Singer and convicted sex offender R. Kelly made an official request to President Trump to have his 31-year prison sentence commuted, prompting a response from the White House.
The Chicago Tribune first <a href="https://www.chicagotribune.com/2026/07/14/r-kelly-trump-sentence/">reported</a> this week that the request was made and that Kelly was seeking a reduced sentence rather than a full pardon. The disgraced R&amp;B singer was found guilty of racketeering and sex trafficking in 2021, then convicted of producing child pornography in a separate 2022 federal trial in Chicago.
A White House rep confirmed the request was made but did not indicate if or when it would be approved.
“This appears to be a random submission through the public portal which anyone can submit an application through,” the spokesperson said in a statement, as <a href="https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/r-kelly-trump-commute-prison-sentence-sex-abuse-1235594301/">reported</a> by Rolling Stone. “The submission of a pardon request should not be interpreted to mean anything other than an individual has chosen to submit a request. The team that reviews clemency requests at the White House is not tracking this request at this time. The White House has a thorough review process for all clemency requests, with the President being the ultimate decider.”
Kelly’s attorney, Beau Brindley, has been seeking Trump’s help in reducing his client&#8217;s sentence since last year, and specifically asked that the singer be removed from prison and put on house arrest due to alleged safety concerns.
The singer’s legal rep claimed that three prison officials recruited a terminally ill inmate to kill the singer, promising him early release if he complied.
“The only thing that can protect Mr. Kelly behind the prison walls now is the fact that now the world is watching,” Brindley wrote in a statement last year. “We will call on the courts and President Trump to help put an end to the corruption that now threatens Mr. Kelly’s life.”
The motion was denied, as The Guardian <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/jul/16/r-kelly-donald-trump-appeal-commute-prison-sentence-ntwnfb">noted</a>.
Kelly isn’t the only recording artist seeking Trump’s help to get out of jail. The White House <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/white-house-denies-rumors-of-an-imminent-pardon-for-diddy">shot down rumors</a> last fall that a presidential pardon for rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs was imminent.
Diddy is currently serving a four-year sentence after being found guilty of two prostitution charges. He was facing up to 20 years in prison following a high-profile trial in New York, but was acquitted of the more serious charges of sex trafficking and racketeering.
TMZ broke the story of the pardon in October and said it stood by the story even after the White House denied it. As of now, Diddy is still in prison.
