AMC Theaters and Regal are bringing two Dolly Parton films back to the big screen for limited screenings honoring the country music icon.
Parton died Tuesday at age 80.
AMC Entertainment CEO Adam Aron announced Thursday that approximately 200 <a href="https://x.com/AMCTheatres/status/2093066938461151607">AMC locations</a> would offer showtimes for 1989&#8217;s &#8220;Steel Magnolias&#8221; and the 1982 musical comedy, &#8220;The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas,&#8221; from Friday through Wednesday.

Parton said in a Rolling Stone <a href="https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/qa-dolly-parton-235443/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">interview</a> that once she was cast in &#8220;The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas&#8221; and realized she&#8217;d be playing opposite Burt Reynolds, she pushed for more romantic emphasis between the characters.
&#8220;When they started askin’ for suggestions, I said I would like to see more of a romance. Wouldn’t you feel like you wasted five dollars if you paid to see &#8216;Wh0rehouse&#8217; and you didn’t see me and Burt kiss? I was makin’ a joke, and I stuck to it. I’m not going to miss my chance to kiss Burt Reynolds,&#8221; she said.

CNN had to apologize to the family of the late country music icon Dolly Parton after accidentally using a photo of a Las Vegas tribute artist in a report on her death.
&#8220;We regret the error and apologize to the Parton family,&#8221; the network told <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/08/27/media/cnn-apologizes-to-dolly-partons-family-for-using-photo-of-las-vegas-impersonator-in-coverage-of-icons-death/?utm_campaign=nypost&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter">the New York Post</a> on Thursday.
The photo featured Parton impersonator Kelly Vohnn, and aired during &#8220;Laura Coates Live,&#8221; hours after the country legend&#8217;s death had been confirmed by her family.

Vohnn learned of the mistake shortly after the photo aired, telling The Post that her phone began blowing up with people telling her that they&#8217;d just seen her on CNN: &#8220;I started getting all these texts in from friends saying that I was on CNN, and I couldn’t believe it &#8230; I was already heartbroken at losing Dolly because of how much she has given to me as a woman and an artist.&#8221;
&#8220;But then to see these images of me on screen was just weird. Somebody at CNN really messed up and didn’t do their research,&#8221; Vohnn added. &#8220;I felt so sorry and apologetic for Dolly, because over her career there are so many wonderful images and moments that they could have chosen from — and CNN just picked something not appropriate. To be clear, I have never represented myself as being Dolly ever in my life. I have always been known as a tribute act for her and many other stars. It was quite embarrassing, to be honest.&#8221;
Vohnn told The Post that she had considered reaching out to CNN herself to address the mistake, but that she&#8217;d been so upset by the news of the icon&#8217;s passing that she hadn&#8217;t done so: &#8220;I thought about calling CNN, but was really consumed by the grief of losing Dolly [and] I just wanted to be at home with my thoughts, raising a glass of wine to that brilliant woman.&#8221;
Parton passed away after a brief battle with cancer, leaving behind a legacy of music and philanthropy that touched millions around the world. She was 80 years old.

Country star Jelly Roll told Trump-supporting fans to stop listening to his music after they objected to a series of crude jokes he made about the president while guest-hosting &#8220;Jimmy Kimmel Live!&#8221;
The singer, whose legal name is Jason DeFord, recently lost a significant amount of weight, which is especially frustrating for fans, since many of his criticisms of Trump focused on his appearance at the Freedom 250 Grand Prix, an IndyCar race held on the streets of Washington, D.C. 
“The cars drove through the streets of D.C., and there’s Donald Trump, who apparently has never held a flag before,” the singer said. “What a sh*t job. How do you f*ck up waving a flag?”
“But the president seemed to enjoy the IndyCar race, which was a real switch up for him, because normally he only likes his own race,” DeFord added.
The “Need a Favor” singer went on to make personal digs about Trump’s weight, saying the president had gained 14 pounds and was &#8220;tipping the scales at almost 240.&#8221;
“It’s crazy. Think about this, y’all. In the last few years, I’ve lost 300 pounds,&#8221; he said. &#8220;That means I’ve lost an entire Donald Trump.&#8221;
“And let’s be honest, based on his approval ratings, it seems like most of the country wants to do the same thing,” DeFord went on.
The three-time Grammy winner sarcastically suggested that people should not mock Trump&#8217;s weight because the president &#8220;would never do that to other people.” The program then played a montage of Trump criticizing other people&#8217;s appearances. 
“Well, if that ain’t the pot calling the kettle fat,” Jelly Roll said. “Mr. President, from one fat pig to another, take it from me that physical fitness is very important. And trust me, you’ll be happy to see your p*nis again.”
The monologue surprised some of Jelly Roll&#8217;s fans, including Trump supporters who threatened to stop listening to his music. Former CBS News correspondent Lara Logan accused the singer of using Christianity to &#8220;make money&#8221; and said she was deleting his songs from her collection.

While guest-hosting the show again Tuesday, Jelly Roll addressed the backlash without apologizing. He <a href="https://ew.com/jelly-roll-defends-trump-jokes-after-backlash-12068807">said</a> the reaction was &#8220;the weirdest thing I&#8217;ve ever done to stun people,&#8221; given that he is a former felon and drug dealer who has tattoos covering his face.
He said some people were upset because he “didn’t treat the president with reverence and dignity.”
“But I want to remind y’all that I go by the name Jelly Roll,” he said. “I don’t even treat myself with reverence and dignity.”
He added that he thinks that “most people were just surprised that I had any opinions at all.”
“They see a guy that looks like me and assume the only opinion I have is whether I prefer my meth crystal or classic,” DeFord joked.
Jelly Roll defended the monologue as part of his temporary job hosting a late-night comedy program.
&#8220;Any U.S. president should be able to handle a few jokes, right?&#8221; he said. &#8220;They should also be able to handle gas prices, health care, and the occasional international conflict, but beggars can&#8217;t be choosers.&#8221;
&#8220;If you wanted me to make jokes about Kamala Harris, you should have voted for her.&#8221;
The singer then addressed fans who had threatened to boycott his music.
&#8220;I just want to say with conviction: Go right ahead, because I&#8217;m gonna keep speaking my truth or my name isn&#8217;t Post Malone,&#8221; he <a href="https://ew.com/jelly-roll-defends-trump-jokes-after-backlash-12068807">said</a>.
Jelly Roll continued targeting Trump while guest-hosting Wednesday&#8217;s show after Fox News host Jesse Watters <a href="https://www.thewrap.com/creative-content/tv-shows/jelly-roll-responds-fox-news-jesse-watters-ozempic-trump-derangement-syndrome-comment/">accused him</a> of suffering from &#8220;Trump Derangement Syndrome&#8221; caused by Ozempic use.
&#8220;I can&#8217;t believe, out of all the jokes I&#8217;ve told the past few nights, the one that really seemed to make people mad was when I said [Trump] was overweight,&#8221; Jelly Roll said. &#8220;I thought fat-on-fat crime was okay.&#8221;
Jelly Roll previously <a href="https://people.com/jelly-roll-responds-criticism-after-meeting-donald-trump-8763592">described himself</a> as apolitical after facing criticism for meeting Trump at UFC 309 at Madison Square Garden in 2024.
“Dude, there’s not a chance in hell that I’m not going to meet the president-elect. I don’t care,” Jelly Roll said later. “If I got a call to meet Joe Biden, I would have stopped at any point and [met] him.”
“Meeting President Trump was cool. Ultimately, I don’t really care [about] any blowback I get about it,” he added.

In about 20 years, the world will be treated to another Dolly Parton original.
The late country music legend wrote and recorded a secret song called “My Place in History,” which was burned on a CD and <a href="https://parade.com/news/dolly-parton-my-place-in-history-locked-away-100th-birthday">sealed</a> inside a “Dream Box” time capsule assembled for the opening of Dollywood&#8217;s DreamMore Resort in 2015. The mystery box, which is displayed at the resort, is scheduled to be opened on January 19, 2046, what would have been Parton&#8217;s 100th birthday. 
Parton discussed the time capsule years ago during an appearance on &#8220;The Kelly Clarkson Show,&#8221; admitting that she had a hard time resisting the temptation to retrieve the song and share it with the world. 
“I’ll tell you, you have no idea how that has bothered me,” the “Jolene” singer told Clarkson. “I mean, I wanna go dig that up so bad … I need to use that song! It’s a really good song.”
Parton even worried that the recording might not survive long enough for anyone to hear it.
“That’s what bothers me to think that it’s going to be a song that nobody’s ever going to hear if it rots in there before they open it,&#8221; she said. &#8220;Hopefully, it’ll be special and it’ll still be there,&#8221; she went on.
&#8220;I won’t be around to hear it,” she predicted.
Parton joked about that possibility during an appearance on “The Tonight Show” with Jimmy Fallon that same year.
&#8220;I’ll be dead and gone — well I might not be, &#8217;cause I’ll be 99,&#8221; Parton said. &#8220;You know me, I might still be hoppin’ around.”
The Dream Box contains other items representing Parton&#8217;s life and career, but its biggest mystery is the unheard song she left for the future.
Parton died Tuesday following a “brief battle with cancer,” her representatives revealed after her death was announced. Fans gathered outside her Nashville home to mourn the loss of one of country music’s most beloved stars.
The Tennessee-born singer was hospitalized on Friday and died four days later at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville.
Her nephew, Bryan Seaver, confirmed her death in an Instagram video.
“But sadness lies with us, not with Dolly. Dolly has lived in the light, and is in the arms of Jesus,” Seaver said in part.
Parton was born in a one-room East Tennessee cabin on Locust Ridge as the fourth of 12 kids. She recorded her first single, “Puppy Love,” at age 13 and left for Nashville the very morning after graduating high school in 1964, packing her belongings in paper grocery bags. 
She’s best known for writing iconic hit songs including “I Will Always Love You,” “9 to 5,” and “Jolene.”
Across her six-decade career, she penned more than 3,000 songs, scored 25 country No. 1 singles, won 11 Grammys, and was inducted into the Rock &amp; Roll Hall of Fame in 2022.

Legendary actor Tim Curry died late Tuesday night after suffering from several health issues over the last decade. He was 80 years old.
Entertainment site TMZ <a href="https://www.tmz.com/2026/08/26/tim-curry-dead/">reported</a> that Curry passed away at his Los Angeles home. Police arrived on the scene just before midnight. The outlet also reported that foul play is not suspected in the actor&#8217;s death. The British-born actor had been dealing with a series of health complications since suffering a stroke in 2012.

As the world mourns the death of American icon Dolly Parton, fans are reflecting on some of her most memorable performances, including her halftime show at the Commanders-Cowboys Thanksgiving Day game in 2023. 
Part of the reason Parton’s death is so difficult to comprehend is that she seemed invincible, even at 80, and that she looked and sounded fantastic just three years ago. The entire world is mourning the loss of country music legend Dolly Parton, including the British royal family.
The official royal family X account posted a video Wednesday morning, the day after Parton’s death at the age of 80, showing a unique musical tribute. In it, members of the King’s Guard wearing their signature bearskin headwear play an instrumental version of the classic single, “9 to 5.” 
“Remembering the late, great Dolly, who brought joy, comfort, and inspiration to so many — including the millions of children given free books through her Imagination Library. We will always [love] you,” the accompanying caption said.
Parton is believed to be one of the last universally beloved celebrities whose popularity transcended political sides and music genres. Immediately following the news of her death after a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/dolly-partons-cause-of-death-revealed">short battle with cancer</a>, musicians and world leaders shared words about what Parton meant to them personally, and to the world. 
“Very sad to report that Dolly Parton, one of the greatest Country singers, and far beyond, EVER, has just passed away. This is a true loss for millions of people. There has never been anyone like her, and never will,” President Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/the-world-loves-you-trump-orders-flags-to-half-staff-for-dolly-parton">wrote</a> in a Truth Social post.
“In her honor, I am lowering the American flag throughout the United States for a one week period beginning tonight at 6:00PM,” he continued. “Rest in Peace, Dolly! The World loves you.”
Both senators from Parton’s home state of Tennessee also reacted to news of her death.
&#8220;Tennessee has lost one of its greatest legends- a woman who never lost sight of her faith, her roots, or the Volunteer Spirit. [Dolly Parton] was a true Tennessee treasure, and her legacy will forever be defined by her love of faith, family, and the place she proudly called home,&#8221; Senator Bill Hagerty (TN-R) said.
Senator Marsha Blackburn (TN-R) posted a photo of herself with Parton for her tribute. &#8220;There are no words to adequately express the sorrow our family and indeed, all Tennesseans, feel in the loss of Dolly Parton. An iconic leader who loved our great state and nation. Her passing leaves a void that no one can ever fill. Dolly, we will always love you,&#8221; it said.
Parton founded the Imagination Library in 1995 and gave away more than 100 million free books. The singer created the organization to honor her late father, who never learned to read.

Patrick Clancy finally responded to wild online conspiracy theories — which have been peddled by influencers and celebrities — that tie him to the murders of his three young children, despite his ex-wife Lindsay Clancy acknowledging that she committed the crimes.
On Tuesday, Patrick released a statement putting those who are spreading such false theories &#8220;on notice.&#8221;
“The facts are indisputable: Patrick Clancy has suffered an unspeakable and unimaginable loss,&#8221; attorney Howard Cooper, with Todd &amp; Weld, said in a statement on behalf of Patrick. &#8220;Unfortunately, the tragedy Patrick has experienced has been compounded by patently false, defamatory, and injurious public statements.&#8221;
&#8220;The individuals making those statements — from minor influencers to major celebrities — should be on notice that their despicable actions and false, defamatory statements have caused real life consequences to the health and safety of Patrick and his family,&#8221; the statement added.

Legendary country star Dolly Parton died on Tuesday, but she made a prediction more than four decades earlier about which one of her famous &#8220;Dolly-isms&#8221; might show up on her tombstone.
In 1982, while filming &#8220;The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas,&#8221; Parton coined a phrase that she would repeat on numerous occasions — so often, in fact, that she told <a href="https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2008/05/michael-hogan-d?srsltid=AfmBOorbIpVOaVLPIik29oUfXvLs2UDQaGIuGpzDWRvgO4xNcGwIi5GL">Vanity Fair</a> 26 years later that she expected to see it on her headstone one day.
The phrase in question? &#8220;It costs a lot of money to look this cheap.&#8221;
Parton made no secret over the years that she&#8217;d modeled her signature look after the town tramp — declaring during a number of interviews that she&#8217;d grown up in awe of this confident woman with &#8220;peroxide-blonde hair&#8221; who wore tight clothes and red lipstick. Her mother had told her at the time that the woman was &#8220;trash,&#8221; a &#8220;tramp&#8221; — but Parton said she&#8217;d known immediately that was what she wanted to be when she grew up.
&#8220;I kind of patterned myself after what they called the town tramp in my hometown, when I was little,&#8221; Parton explained to CBS anchor Julie Chen on &#8220;The Early Show&#8221; in 2006. &#8220;She left a big impression on me, and I would talk about how beautiful she was and different ones would say, ‘Oh, she’s just trash.’ And I thought, ‘That’s what I want to be when I grow up. I’m gonna be trash!’ And that is how I look.&#8221;
Parton also said her flashy outward look was an attempt to match her flashy personality.
But as flashy as she was, Parton never took herself too seriously — and routinely delivered self-deprecating quips about her flamboyant style and multiple cosmetic procedures.
&#8220;It’s hard to be a diamond in a rhinestone world,&#8221; she said more than once — and she told The Guardian in 2011, &#8220;If something is bagging, sagging or dragging, I’ll tuck it, suck it or pluck it &#8230; It’s like what I always say: I may look fake but I’m real where it counts.&#8221;
When asked how she still looked so young, she quipped, &#8220;Well, good lighting, good doctors and good makeup.&#8221;

Actress Hayden Panettiere&#8217;s estranged mother says something smells off about the story on-again boyfriend Brian Hickerson is telling about her daughter&#8217;s death.
Lesley Vogel told <a href="https://www.dailymail.com/tvshowbiz/article-16070987/hayden-panettiere-brian-hickerson-south-carolina-death.html">The Daily Mail</a> that she spoke with the police officer who responded to the Greenville, South Carolina, apartment — an Airbnb rental the actress was sharing with Hickerson and his brother, Zach — and told him she believed Brian was &#8220;culpable.&#8221;
Her main dispute was with the <a href="https://pagesix.com/2026/08/22/celebrity-news/hayden-panettieres-estranged-mom-claims-brian-hickersons-story-about-daughters-death-is-full-of-holes/">timeline</a> presented by the brothers, who <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/hayden-panettieres-boyfriends-brother-reveals-what-he-did-to-try-to-save-her">claimed</a> that Brian had administered Narcan and the brothers jointly performed CPR while still on the line with 911. But Vogel said she did not believe either of the Hickersons just happened to be carrying Narcan at the time, suggesting that one of them must have left Panettiere unresponsive while he left to get some.
&#8220;I think there will be a discrepancy in the timeline, meaning Brian had to go out and buy the Narcan while he left her there because I do not believe he happened to have two bottles of Narcan on him, like he carried them around in his back pocket,&#8221; Vogel claimed.
Vogel also questioned another part of the story — namely that Zach Hickerson had returned from church to find Brian napping alongside the &#8220;Nashville&#8221; star — and asked how it was possible to sleep next to someone and not realize that she was dying. Brian, according to his brother, only woke from his nap when he heard loud knocking at the door because Zach could not unlock the door.
&#8220;I don’t know how you can take a nap near someone who’s dying and not realize something’s wrong,&#8221; she said. &#8220;I think Brian called his brother. My opinion. I think he knew she was deceased. Called his brother, and tried and built this story.&#8221;

Vogel was widely panned for her <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/hayden-panettieres-mother-reveals-who-she-blames-after-stars-death">previous comments</a> about her actress daughter&#8217;s shocking death — just five days before what would have been her 37th birthday — when she said, &#8220;I think Hayden was an amazingly talented person in so many departments. And I think young people who grow up in the entertainment industry — it is a struggle, and it’s a very challenging industry, and it’s not unusual for them to sadly find the wrong path.&#8221;
She blamed Hickerson from the beginning, saying, &#8220;This person in her life that we have been trying to get rid of for quite some time was with her at her death, and that was Brian Hickerson.&#8221;
&#8220;Although my daughter and I were estranged, it was not for lack of care or love. It was due to the involvement of a toxic individual who I believe led to her death,&#8221; Vogel told Entertainment Tonight in a <a href="https://people.com/hayden-panettiere-mom-lesley-responds-criticism-blames-estrangement-toxic-individual-death-12064652">statement</a>.

Actress Hayden Panettiere was wheeled out of her Los Angeles apartment on a gurney at least twice prior to her tragic death, a neighbor says.
Mia Terrazas, who lived in the same West Hollywood apartment complex where the &#8220;Heroes&#8221; star lived with on-again off-again boyfriend Brian Hickerson, said that she&#8217;d seen Panettiere taken from the building by first responders on two occasions — and that the actress had appeared to be &#8220;battered&#8221; both times.
Terrazas told entertainment outlet <a href="https://pagesix.com/2026/08/23/celebrity-news/injured-hayden-panettiere-was-taken-out-of-la-apartment-on-gurney-twice-while-living-with-brian-hickerson-neighbor-claims/">Page Six</a> that firefighters had been called to their location on July 29, 2023, and again on January 16, 2024 — and that when they took Panettiere off the premises, Hickerson had been &#8220;glued&#8221; to her side. The actress, she said, had visible &#8220;bruises&#8221; and &#8220;bright red spots&#8221; when she was wheeled away.
The neighbor said that she worried about the actress — with whom she&#8217;d spoken on a number of occasions — and was afraid of Hickerson.
&#8220;She was just so lovely … and just seeing her and passing frequently and, you know, the little chats that I had with her — she made such an impression, and she was such a bright light,” Terrazas said of Panettiere, who died last Sunday at the age of 36.
“Just as a human being. Never mind the talent; she was a human being, you know? And she deserved so much better. I felt everybody just used her up, and she just deserved better. … I just wish I could have done more. I just can’t believe I’ll never see her again,&#8221; she added.
While she never saw any drugs firsthand, Terrazas said that she had seen evidence of its effects — particularly in Hickerson — over the years.
&#8220;Brian always seemed to be high or disconnected. He just kind of had this odd, flat effect, I guess I could describe it as. Hayden sometimes would seem out of it,&#8221; she explained.
In April 2021, Hickerson pleaded no contest to felony domestic abuse charges of corporal injury to a spouse/cohabitant in which Panettiere was the victim — and at the time, Panettiere was granted a five-year protection order against him.
In 2025, after Hickerson had been seen <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/hayden-panettieres-hoa-took-drastic-step-against-boyfriend-before-her-death">trespassing</a> on the West Hollywood property, the Home Owners&#8217; Association responded by putting up posters warning residents not to allow him to enter the premises. After about a week, the posters were taken down.
Panettiere was found <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/actress-hayden-panetierre-dead-at-36">unresponsive</a> at an Airbnb rental in South Carolina on Sunday, August 16 — just five days before what would have been her 37th birthday — and was pronounced dead a short time later. Both Brian Hickerson and his brother Zach were in the apartment at the time, and had attempted to revive her using CPR and Narcan to reverse the effects of a possible opioid overdose.

The skincare and cosmetics brand Neutrogena acknowledged making longtime spokeswoman Hayden Panettiere feel &#8220;unsupported&#8221; and pledged a significant investment in women&#8217;s health after it faced backlash and boycott calls following the actress&#8217;s death.
Fans of Panettiere turned on the brand after her claims about Neutrogena&#8217;s response to her publicly discussing postpartum depression resurfaced on social media.
&#8220;For more than a decade, Hayden was a valued member of our Neutrogena community,&#8221; the brand wrote in a <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/DcRcCGamhA4/?hl=en&amp;img_index=1">statement</a> shared on Instagram. &#8220;We are proud to have partnered with her and understand that we made her feel unsupported during a very difficult time. This is not what Neutrogena stands for or who we want to be.&#8221;
&#8220;Hayden&#8217;s courage in sharing her challenges helped inspire important conversations and awareness,&#8221; the post continued. &#8220;We are making a significant investment to a long-standing community health partner to help give more women access to the support they need, including care for postpartum depression. We will share more details with this community when plans are in place.&#8221;
At least one crisis PR manager says this is the exact wrong move for Neutrogena. 
“Neutrogena employed an outdated and simplistic PR playbook that will only make its reputation problems worse,” said crisis communications expert Evan Nierman. 
He continued, “Offering a post-mortem apology paired with a charitable donation is cynical and unconvincing. In our cancel culture world, public apologies when the mob demands your cancellation are usually the wrong move because you satisfy nobody, confirm that their criticism of you was well-deserved, and earn no credit for conceding.&#8221;
The “Nashville” star was the face of Neutrogena for a decade, from 2005 until 2015. In Panettiere&#8217;s 2026 memoir, “This Is Me: A Reckoning,” she said that the partnership ended due to comments she made about her experience with PPD.
Panettiere said the subject came up unexpectedly during a 2015 appearance on “Live! with Kelly and Michael” and that she spoke honestly about her experience following the birth of her daughter in December 2014. 
She wrote in the memoir, “Neutrogena canceled my long-standing contract, and it was yet another blow in a year that had given almost nothing else.”
Following Panettiere&#8217;s recent death, fans on Reddit, TikTok, and other social media platforms called for a boycott of the skincare brand. They also flooded Neutrogena’s social media accounts with derogatory comments and suggestions for alternative brands.
“Friends don’t let friends go to bed without removing their makeup,” a post from the brand says. “Friends don’t drop friends when they’re suffering, but hey,” one commenter replied. 
“What Neutrogena did to Hayden Panettiere is absolutely heartbreaking. A woman openly speaking about postpartum depression&#8230; something SO many women experience&#8230; should have been met with compassion, support, and a brand using its platform to help break the stigma,” another comment on a different post says.
Panettiere, best known for her roles in “Nashville,” “Heroes,” and “Remember the Titans,” was found unresponsive Sunday afternoon at an Airbnb in Greenville, South Carolina, where she had been temporarily staying. An investigation into the death is ongoing.
