Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) blamed his staff for a memo labeling his critics Nazis, saying he “condemn[s] the use of the term Nazi out of its precise definition.” But it was just a few months ago that he called Daily Wire host Michael Knowles the same thing, leading the conservative commentator to call out Bowman on social media.

Bowman, under investigation after he pulled a fire alarm in a House office building while trying to get to a government spending vote over the weekend, released a memo to the offices of other Democrats with multiple suggested talking points, including: “Republicans need to instead focus their energy on the Nazi members of their party before anything else.”

After the guidance went public, Bowman distanced himself from the suggested talking point. “I just became aware that in our messaging guidance, there was inappropriate use of the term Nazi without my consent,” Bowman said in a post to X. “I condemn the use of the term Nazi out of its precise definition. It is important to specify the term Nazi to refer to members of the Nazi party & neo-Nazis.”

One of the people who responded to Bowman’s statement was Knowles, who shared a screenshot of a post from one of Bowman’s accounts calling Knowles a “Nazi” in response to a clip of The Daily Wire host advocating for eradicating transgender ideology from public life.

“Was it also an accidental, non-consensual use of the term when you called me a Nazi back in March? Do you condemn that use of the term too?” Knowles asked.

As of press time, Bowman has not issued any public response to Knowles. The March 7, 2023 post has not been deleted.

Bowman has apologized for pulling the fire alarm and claimed he made a mistake in thinking that pulling it would open a door, but Bowman has faced blowback — including a GOP bid to expel him from Congress over allegations that he violated federal and local laws.

The Daily Wire host posted over the weekend, after it first became known that Bowman pulled the fire alarm, that the congressman “once called me ‘a Nazi hellbent on keeping only white men alive and in power’ because I said boys and girls are different.”
