Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) predicted that President Joe Biden would win re-election in a landslide in 2024.
Appearing on CNN’s “State of the Union” Sunday, Sanders said that he takes a multitude of factors into account when choosing who to vote for. Sanders attacked Republicans as enemies of democracy and said Biden would win if Democrats prioritized supporting working people more.
“Well, I think, when you look at a candidate, you consider a lot,” said Sanders. “I think age is one thing. I think experience is another thing. I think your record that you have established is another thing. But, to my mind, when you put it all together, what you have to look at is, what does the candidate stand for? Which side are they on? Are they on the side of the billionaire class, or are they on the side of working people?”
“Look, it is no great secret— I ran against Biden— No great secret that he and I have strong differences of opinion,” he continued. “But when we live in a nation where you have a major political party, the Republican Party, where many, not all, but many of their leadership doesn’t even believe in democracy, they maintain the myth that Trump won the last election, they’re trying to keep people from voting, they’re trying to deny women the right to control their own bodies, so that’s a whole issue out there. If you believe in democracy, you want to see more people vote, not fewer people vote, I think the choice is pretty clear, and that choice is Biden.”
“And, second of all, what I do believe is, the Democrats and the president have got to be stronger on working-class issues,” Sanders went on. “They have got to make it clear that we believe in a government that represents all, not just the few, take on the greed of the insurance companies, the drug companies, Wall Street, all the big money interests, and start delivering for working-class people. You do that, I think Biden is going to win in a landslide.”

Sanders declined to run against Biden in the 2024 Democratic primary and endorsed Biden on Tuesday. In an interview with CNN’s Chris Wallace last week, Sanders said that Biden would not face a serious primary challenge because of right-wing extremism from Republicans.
“Why is it that not a single leading Democrat is willing to contest [Biden’s] nomination in the primaries?” asked Wallace. “Why do you think that is?”

“I suspect that it has to do with a fear of the growth of right-wing extremism in this country, and that is the Republican Party over the last number of years, accelerated by Trumpism, has not become not a conservative party but a right-wing extremist party,” Sanders replied. “You have Republicans working overtime to deny low-income people, people of color, young people the right to vote, people defended the insurrection on January 6th.”
