A Wisconsin judge who was suspended earlier this year was convicted Thursday of obstructing Immigration and Customs Enforcement  (ICE) agents during an attempted arrest at a Milwaukee courthouse.
A jury found Hannah Dugan guilty of felony obstruction after officials said that she tried to help an illegal immigrant from Mexico evade immigration authorities back in April. She was found not guilty of a misdemeanor charge of concealing a wanted person. 
“We weren’t trying to make an example out of anyone. This was necessary to hold Judge Dugan accountable because of the actions she took,” <a href="https://www.jsonline.com/story/news/2025/12/18/milwaukee-county-judge-hannah-dugan-found-guilty-of-felony-obstruction/87675227007/">said</a> interim U.S. Attorney Brad Schimel. “There’s not a political aspect to it.”
“Some have sought to make this about a larger political battle. While this case is serious for all involved, it is ultimately about a single day – a single day – in a public courthouse,” he added. 
Dugan’s legal team plans to seek to overturn her conviction. Following her arrest, the Wisconsin Supreme Court suspended her from the bench while the case proceeded. She could face more than five years in prison at sentencing.
Federal investigators <a href="https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/25919655-1034-001-1-1/">identified</a> the man Dugan helped evade ICE as Eduardo Flores-Ruiz, who was charged in Milwaukee with three counts of battery, domestic abuse, and infliction of physical pain or injury. He had previously been deported in 2013.
According to the FBI, six members of an ICE task force arrived at the courthouse on April 18 to arrest Flores-Ruiz and agreed to wait until after his domestic abuse court appearance. Investigators said Dugan had been informed of the agents’ presence, became “visibly angry,” and called the situation “absurd,” according to witness interviews.

According to charging documents, Dugan directed the ICE arrest team to the chief judge’s chambers before returning to her courtroom and instructing Flores-Ruiz to exit through the “jury door” into a nonpublic area of the courthouse. ICE agents later tracked Flores-Ruiz outside the building and arrested him following a foot chase.
The Trump administration celebrated the verdict. 
“Former Wisconsin state judge Hannah Dugan betrayed her oath and the people she served when she obstructed federal law enforcement during an immigration enforcement operation,” <a href="https://x.com/DAGToddBlanche/status/2001860838907355509">said</a> Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche. “Today, a federal jury of her peers found her guilty and sent a clear message: the American people respect law and order. Nobody is above the law. This Department will not tolerate obstruction, will enforce federal immigration law, and will hold criminals to account &#8211; even those who wear robes.”

With growing threats to higher education and state government, Wisconsin Republicans have a plan to put the Badger State at the forefront of combating Chinese Communist Party influence.
Five Wisconsin Republicans unveiled a series of bills this week to keep CCP influence out of state government and institutions of higher education. If the legislative package is passed, national security experts say that Wisconsin would become a state leader in combating China. 
“We can all agree and should be able to rally around the fact that we should not be supporting or doing anything to support organizations, such as the Chinese Communist Party, that seek to undermine the foundational things that make America exceptional,” Senator Patrick Testin told The Daily Wire. 
The bills would block partnerships between the University of Wisconsin system and China, prevent state agencies from contracting with companies controlled by China, ban critical telecommunication companies from using equipment manufactured by foreign adversaries, crack down on transnational repression, target illegal organ harvesting, and protect genetic data from countries like China.
The lawmakers behind the legislative package include Testin, Senator Cory Tomczyk, Representative Daniel Knodl, Representative Clint Moses, and Representative Alex Dallman.
Testin said that the CCP wants “to embed themselves in every element and sector” to “essentially extend their tentacles and their influence.”
The higher education bill would ban the University of Wisconsin from entering into “a collaboration agreement, academic partnership, or research partnership with a college or university based in China, Russia, Iran, North Korea, Cuba, Venezuela, or Qatar,” according to a draft shared with The Daily Wire. 
There would be an exception if a federal law enforcement agency performs a national security assessment.

A recent House <a href="https://selectcommitteeontheccp.house.gov/media/press-releases/new-investigative-report-uncovers-billions-in-taxpayer-money-used-to-fund-chinese-military-apparatus">report</a> listed over a dozen Pentagon grants to the university worth tens of millions of dollars that raised concerns over links to China. The university also has relationships with <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20250929185535/https://tc.seu.edu.cn/jt_en/2017/1230/c16823a206389/page.htm">Southeast University in Nanjing</a> and <a href="https://alc.wisc.edu/2019/06/18/uw-madison-celebrates-40-year-relationship-with-nanjing-university/">Nanjing University</a>, both of which have been <a href="https://www.civitas.org.uk/content/files/The-Strategic-Dependence-of-UK-Universities-on-China-.pdf">assessed</a> to have medium to high risk in terms of Chinese defense ties. 
Another bill would stop state agencies from contracting with organizations that are headquartered in certain countries, like China, or are controlled or majority-owned by the Chinese government or the CCP. 
A third bill would prohibit “telecommunications providers from purchasing, renting, leasing, obtaining, or maintaining critical telecommunications infrastructure that includes equipment manufactured by a foreign principal of a foreign adversary.”
Another bill aims to protect the genetic data of Americans. It would ban “the use of genetic software from foreign adversaries in medical and research facilities, the storage of any human genome sequencing data within the borders of a foreign adversary.”
State Rep. Clint Moses told The Daily Wire that the intent of that legislation was to ensure that genetic data was not being used for biological warfare or other “nefarious” purposes. 
Another measure part of the package would prohibit “coverage of organ transplantation and related care under health insurance policies and the Medical Assistance program if the organ is transplanted in or originates from a country known to have participated in forced organ harvesting.”
There are between 25,000 and 50,000 people in China every year whose organs are harvested against their will, according to some estimates. 
“When you start looking at what some of these countries are doing, particularly in China, where they’re getting organs for transplant usage, obviously from inmates, prisoners,” Moses said. “I think, [Americans] would find that absolutely shocking and atrocious, because it’s a humanitarian issue. It’s a crime against humanity.”
The final bill in the package would give more teeth to law enforcement in punishing those engaging in transnational repression. Other bills aiming to prevent foreign adversaries from owning land in Wisconsin and to keep Chinese software off state devices are also working their way through the legislature. 
Michael Lucci, the founder of the national security advocacy group State Armor, said that Wisconsin would become the model in the Midwest for targeting China if all of the proposals pass. He said states need to take increasingly strong action to safeguard themselves. 
“Over time, the breadth and scale of the threat has become more apparent and it has grown. It&#8217;s become clear it&#8217;s quite large,” he told The Daily Wire. “Therefore, the American response, which is both federal and state, needs to expand and become more forceful.”

The Republican congressman said that what happened reflects everything he loves about America.
Congressman Derrick Van Orden (R-MN) was driving down Interstate 35 near Osceola, Iowa, on Saturday when he witnessed a car crash in his rearview mirror.
“I’m watching a Dodge Grand minivan disintegrate. It seemed to drift off the road at about 70 miles per hour, more so on the passenger side of the car,” the Wisconsin Republican <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/3759434/van-orden-and-roadside-warriors-save-11-year-old/">said</a>. “My wife, Sarah, was like, what happened? I looked at it, I said, someone just died,” he said.
Van Orden, a retired Navy SEAL, says he parked his truck in the grass divider and rushed over to see if he could help.
“I ran to the passenger side, where all the damage was, and there was this 11-year-old kid, and I looked at him, and his calf, which is about as big as my thigh, was completely ripped apart, so I could see his tibia and his fibula, just a big chunk of him bleeding. And he had an arterial bleed in his right wrist.”
He ran back to his truck, dug into his luggage, and grabbed two socks for makeshift tourniquets. “By then, probably 10 people had also pulled over to help, I’m like, does somebody have a knife? And they’re like, yep. So I cut the seat belts off and then made tourniquets.”
“Some big old Iowa farm dude, probably 60-something, rips off a windshield wiper for his arm, then another lady there said she was a medic. She wound up grabbing a piece of metal and made a tourniquet on his leg, and then all of us packed him up and got him up into the ambulance.”
Van Orden says that everyone’s quick actions saved the boy’s life. Due to their remote location, first responders wouldn’t have been able to arrive in time. “It took about 10 to 15 minutes. He would’ve bled to death. He would’ve been gone.”
He later visited the boy in the hospital in Des Moines.
He said that what happened embodies “everything that I love about America.”
“We’re in the middle of somewhere, and this happens, and people just start showing up. They start asking, ‘Hey, can we do this? Can we do that?”
While Van Orden was securing the tourniquet on the boy’s leg, he said there were men behind him doing traffic control.
“It’s amazing,” he said of everyone’s eagerness to help.
On X, Van Orden noted that the accident occurred on the second anniversary of his daughter’s passing.

Democratic Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers announced on Thursday that he will not seek a third term leading the Badger State.
Evers, 73, <a href="https://x.com/GovEvers/status/1948428228965613931">said</a> he wants to spend more time with his family after a five-decade career in politics.
&#8220;For five decades, my family has sacrificed to give me the gift of service. They’re my world, and I owe it to them to focus on doing all the things we enjoy and love doing together. It’s why, Wisconsin, I’m announcing that I will not be running for a third term,&#8221; Evers said. &#8220;I&#8217;m so humbled to be your governor. This is the best job I ever had.&#8221;
Evers predicted he would have won had he chosen to run again. His current term ends on January 4, 2027. Wisconsin will have an open gubernatorial race in 2026.

Wisconsin was a swing state in the 2024 presidential election. President Donald Trump <a href="https://apnews.com/projects/election-results-2024/wisconsin/?r=0">won</a> the state by about 30,000 votes. Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) <a href="https://apnews.com/projects/election-results-2024/wisconsin/?r=50807">won</a> her re-election bid against Republican challenger Eric Hovde by a similar margin.
Multiple Democrats are considering running to replace Evers, NBC News <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2026-election/wisconsin-gov-tony-evers-wont-run-re-election-rcna220797">reported</a>, including Lt. Gov. Sara Rodriguez, Attorney General Josh Kaul, Secretary of State Sarah Godlewski, Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley, and Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson.
Two Republican candidates have entered the race so far, the outlet said. Washington County Executive Joe Schoemann and manufacturing CEO Bill Berrien have launched campaigns. Hovde is considering running, as are U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany and businessman Tim Michels, who lost to Evers in 2022.
Berrien <a href="https://www.wispolitics.com/2025/berrien-campaign-responds-to-evers-retirement-announcement/">released</a> a statement responding to Evers&#8217; announcement, saying the governor is afraid of losing.
“Tony Evers is too scared to run on the Madison Democrats’ record of failure,&#8221; Berrien said. &#8220;I’m going to spend the next 15 months making sure whoever the Madison liberals pick from their bench of radical career politicians learns the same lesson.”
Republicans criticized Evers in 2023, when the governor vetoed a bill that would have protected children from irreversible transgender surgeries and hormone procedures, The Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/wisconsin-governor-vetoes-bill-that-would-have-banned-trans-surgeries-on-children?author=Leif+Le+Mahieu&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Wisconsin+Governor+Vetoes+Bill+That+Would+Have+Banned+Trans+Surgeries+On+Children">reported</a> at the time. The bill had passed the Republican-controlled state legislature.
“While the governor’s veto of this legislation is certainly not surprising, it serves as a stark reminder of just how out of touch with reality Governor Evers is,” former Republican state Sen. Duey Stroebel <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/minnesota/news/democratic-wisconsin-governor-vetoes-bill-to-ban-gender-affirming-care-for-kids/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> at the time. “Protecting children from invasive and irreversible medical interventions is the right thing to do from both a scientific and ethical standpoint.”
In his veto message, Evers emphasized his commitment to LGBT causes, saying the bill would have made Wisconsin less safe.
“This type of legislation, and the rhetoric beget by pursuing it, harms LGBTQ people and kids’ mental health, emboldens anti-LGBTQ hate and violence, and threatens the safety and dignity of LGBTQ Wisconsinites,” Evers said. “I will veto any bill that makes Wisconsin a less safe, less inclusive, and less welcoming place for LGBTQ people and kids.”
The governor has also blocked conservative-backed bills on voting, abortion, and gun rights.

The liberal majority of the Wisconsin Supreme Court on Wednesday ruled 4-3 to strike down a 176-year-old law that made it a crime for anyone other than the mother to intentionally end the life of an unborn child. 
The ruling means that abortions remain legal in Wisconsin up to around 20 weeks after fertilization and keeps in place a December 2023 decision from a lower court judge that said the abortion ban was not in effect.
The 1849 law, which had been blocked in 1973 by Roe v. Wade, was re-litigated after the Supreme Court ruled in June 2022 that there is no constitutional right to an abortion. The four liberal justices on the court said the Wisconsin legislature had effectively repealed the 1849 law by passing subsequent pro-life laws in the years after Roe.

“We conclude that, under the unique circumstances presented here, the legislature impliedly repealed [the 1849 law] as to abortion by enacting comprehensive legislation about virtually every aspect of abortion including where, when, and how healthcare providers may lawfully perform abortions,” Justice Rebecca Dallet wrote in the majority <a href="https://www.wicourts.gov/sc/opinion/DisplayDocument.pdf?content=pdf&amp;seqNo=979066">opinion</a>. “That comprehensive legislation so thoroughly covers the entire subject of abortion that it was clearly meant as a substitute for the 19th century near-total ban on abortion.”
In a dissent, conservative Justice Annette Ziegler argued that the liberal majority had disregarded the law through a “novel” approach and failed to identify a specific statute that repealed the 1849 law. 
“The majority opinion is a jaw-dropping exercise of judicial will, placing personal preference over the constitutional roles of the three branches of our state government and upending a duly enacted law,” she wrote. “In this dangerous departure from our constitutional design, four members of the court make up and apply their own version of implied repeal, failing to hew to any semblance of traditional judicial decision-making or jurisprudence.”
Ziegler added that the majority arbitrarily chose which abortion laws to remain in effect. 
Democratic Attorney General Josh Kaul sued several Wisconsin district attorneys over the 1849 law, arguing that the legislature implicitly repealed it. Sheboygan County District Attorney Joel Urmanski defended the law in court, arguing that later pro-life laws passed did not supersede the original 1849 law. 
“The Wisconsin Supreme Court’s role is to follow the Constitution, not to make law,” Wisconsin GOP chair Brian Schimming said in response to the court’s decision. “This issue should be resolved in the legislature and by voters, not by far-left justices parading as legislators.”
Liberals have held a firm grip on the court for the last two years, easily winning judicial races in both 2023 and 2025, which has kept the court’s ideological slant leaning to the Left. The court last week refused to hear challenges to Wisconsin’s current congressional map, after Democrats argued that the boundaries illegally favor Republicans, leaving the current map in place for the 2026 midterm elections.

The Supreme Court unanimously ruled in favor of a Catholic charity that sued Wisconsin after it was mandated to pay certain unemployment taxes while other religious organizations were exempted.
In its <a href="https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/24pdf/24-154_2b82.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ruling</a>, the court struck down a decision from the Wisconsin Supreme Court that said the Catholic Charities Bureau had to pay taxes on unemployment compensation. The court said that the interpretation of state tax law by Wisconsin&#8217;s Supreme Court violated the First Amendment.
&#8220;The First Amendment mandates government neutrality between religions and subjects any state-sponsored denominational preference to strict scrutiny,&#8221; Justice Sonia Sotomayor wrote in the majority decision. &#8220;The Wisconsin Supreme Court’s application of [Wisconsin law] imposed a denominational preference by differentiating between religions based on theological lines.&#8221;
Catholic Charities Bureau is an organization that provides services to poor people, the disabled, the elderly, and children with special needs as a ministry of the Catholic Church in the Diocese of Superior. According to its <a href="https://ccbsuperior.org/about-us/">website</a>, it provides around 50 programs to over 10,500 people.
Justice Clarence Thomas wrote a concurring opinion, saying that in addition to violating the First Amendment, the Wisconsin Supreme Court violated the church autonomy doctrine, which means that a religious institution is not defined by any corporate entity it may form.
&#8220;I would reverse for an additional reason — that the Wisconsin Supreme Court violated the church autonomy doctrine,&#8221; Thomas wrote. &#8220;However incorporated, Catholic Charities and its subentities are, from a religious perspective, a mere arm of the Diocese of Superior. The Wisconsin Supreme Court should have deferred to that understanding, and its failure to do so amounted to an unlawful attempt by the State to redefine the Diocese’s internal governance.&#8221;

Thomas noted that the government could not use entities created by religious institutions as a backdoor means to regulate their internal governance.
&#8220;In short, the corporation is made for the church, not the church for the corporation. Both the basic principles of church autonomy and the history of religious corporations establish that religious institutions are more than the corporate entities that they form,&#8221; he wrote. &#8220;It follows that the government may not use such entities as a means of regulating the internal governance of religious institutions.&#8221;
Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson also issued a separate concurring opinion.

Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Hannah Dugan is claiming “judicial immunity” after officials accused her of helping an illegal alien evade immigration enforcement.
A federal grand jury indicted Dugan earlier this week on charges of concealing a person from arrest and obstruction of proceedings. Dugan allegedly attempted to aid Mexican national Eduardo Flores-Ruiz escape Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials who waited outside Dugan’s courtroom last month.
“The problems with this prosecution are legion, but most immediately, the government cannot prosecute Judge Dugan because she is entitled to judicial immunity for her official acts. Immunity is not a defense to the prosecution to be determined later by a jury or court; it is an absolute bar to the prosecution at the outset,” a Wednesday filing from Dugan’s attorneys says, according to the <a href="https://www.jsonline.com/story/news/2025/05/14/hannah-dugan-moves-to-dismiss-obstruction-case-on-judicial-immunity/83624812007/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Milwaukee Journal Sentinel</a>.
Dugan’s attorneys said the charges, brought by the Department of Justice, violate the U.S. Constitution’s 10th Amendment about powers reserved to the states.
“[T]he immunity and federalism issues must be resolved swiftly because the government has no basis in law to prosecute her. The prosecution against her is barred. The Court should dismiss the indictment,” the filing states. “Since at least the early 17th century in England, and carried on through common law in the United States, judges of record have been entitled to absolute immunity for official acts with a few exceptions not applicable here.”
Administration officials have said that the case against Dugan shows that all are equal under the law.
Last month, law enforcement officials <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/judge-slapped-with-federal-charges-for-helping-criminal-illegal-flee-feds" target="_blank" rel="noopener">gathered</a> outside of Dugan’s courtroom waiting for Flores-Ruiz to exit. Dugan angrily confronted officials before directing Flores-Ruiz toward a side exit instead of the public door in an attempt to bypass law enforcement, according to the complaint against her.
“Despite having been advised of the administrative warrant for the arrest of Flores-Ruiz, Judge Dugan then escorted Flores-Ruiz and his counsel out of the courtroom through the ‘jury door,’ which leads to a nonpublic area of the courthouse,” the complaint against Dugan says.

Wisconsin Judge Accused Of Helping Illegal Evade Feds Claims ‘Judicial Immunity’

A federal grand jury indicted a Wisconsin judge on Tuesday for allegedly aiding an illegal immigrant in an attempt to avoid law enforcement.
Authorities arrested Judge Hannah Dugan of the Milwaukee County Circuit Court last month after officials say she tried to help an illegal immigrant evade immigration authorities. Dugan’s indictment charged her with concealing a person from arrest and obstruction of proceedings.
“Judge Hannah C. Dugan has committed herself to the rule of law and the principles of due process for her entire career as a lawyer and a judge,” her lawyers said in a statement, according to <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/13/us/milwaukee-judge-hannah-dugan-immigration.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The New York Times</a>. “Judge Dugan asserts her innocence and looks forward to being vindicated in court.”
Dugan’s legal team is expected to enter a plea on Thursday, according to the <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/05/13/us-news/wisconsin-judge-hannah-dugan-indicted-over-allegedly-helping-illegal-migrant-evade-ice/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">New York Post</a>. The Wisconsin Supreme Court has suspended Dugan from the bench while her case progresses.
Dugan allegedly aided Mexican national Eduardo Flores-Ruiz in his attempts to evade federal authorities.
Law enforcement officials gathered in a hallway outside of Dugan’s courtroom last month waiting for Flores-Ruiz to exit. Dugan confronted the officials while she was “visibly upset and had a confrontational, angry demeanor,” according to the criminal complaint. The judge then led Flores-Ruiz out a different exit from her courtroom instead of the public exit in an attempt to evade law enforcement.
“Despite having been advised of the administrative warrant for the arrest of Flores-Ruiz, Judge Dugan then escorted Flores-Ruiz and his counsel out of the courtroom through the ‘jury door,’ which leads to a nonpublic area of the courthouse,” the indictment says.
The Trump administration has defended Dugan’s arrest as an example of an equal standard of law for all.

Authorities have charged the father of the 15-year-old shooter who killed two people and injured six others at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin, in December, police said on Thursday.
Jeffrey Rupnow, 42, is accused of giving his daughter access to the pistols that she used in her attack, ABC News <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/father-15-year-killed-2-wisconsin-religious-school-121611692" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. The teenage female shooter, who just four months prior had started attending Abundant Life, opened fire in a study hall on December 16, killing teacher Erin Michelle West and 14-year-old student Rubi Bergara. The shooter, who will not be named per Daily Wire policy, then turned the gun on herself and was found dead by responding officers.
Rupnow faces two counts of intentionally giving a dangerous weapon to a person under 18, causing death, and contributing to the delinquency of a child, the New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/05/09/us-news/father-of-15-year-old-wisconsin-school-shooter-natalie-rupnow-faces-felony-charges/?utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_campaign=nypost" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Friday.
The criminal complaint against Rupnow says that his daughter spiraled after her parents divorced, expressing a hatred of humanity, according to ABC News. Court records showed that the shooter was in therapy over her troubled home life and would often bounce back and forth between her mother and father. Her parents divorced in 2014, remarried in 2017, divorced again in 2020, and then remarried for a second time, The Washington Post <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2024/12/17/madison-wisconsin-school-shooter-natalie-rupnow/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. By April 2021, the couple petitioned for a third divorce and were “admonished” by a judge “concerning remarriage.”
The criminal complaint states that Rupnow attempted to bond with his daughter through firearms. According to the complaint, Rupnow bought his daughter a 9mm pistol and a .22-caliber Sig Sauer pistol. Rupnow allegedly bought the Sig Sauer pistol for Christmas in 2023, when she would have been just 14 years old.
The father told investigators that following the divorce, his daughter started cutting herself so badly that he had to lock up all the knives in his home. After taking her shooting with him on a friend&#8217;s property to connect with her, Rupnow told investigators he was stunned at how quickly her interest in guns &#8220;snow balled.&#8221;
Rupnow kept the guns he got for his daughter in a gun safe, but gave her the combination to open it. Just ten days before the deadly attack on the Christian school, Rupnow texted a friend that his daughter would shoot him if he left “the fun safe open right now,&#8221; according to the complaint. The father expressed regret to investigators about teaching his daughter about firearms and urged police to encourage people to change the combination on their gun safes frequently.
Investigators discovered a six-page manifesto in the shooter&#8217;s bedroom in her father&#8217;s house, along with maps of the school and a schedule of how she would carry out the attack. In her manifesto, which was titled &#8220;War Against Humanity,&#8221; the shooter wrote that she hated people who don&#8217;t care and &#8220;smoke their lungs out with weed or drink as much as they can like my own father,&#8221; ABC News reported.
The felony charges against Rupnow continue a new practice of prosecutors going after the parents of mass shooters. Last year, both parents of the Oxford, Michigan, high school shooter were <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/parents-of-michigan-school-shooter-sentenced" target="_blank" rel="noopener">convicted</a> of involuntary manslaughter, becoming the first parents convicted of crimes connected to their child carrying out a mass shooting. The father of a 14-year-old boy who opened fire and killed four people at a high school in Georgia last year also <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/father-of-suspected-georgia-school-shooter-charged-with-murder" target="_blank" rel="noopener">faces</a> second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter charges.

A leftist legal group challenged Wisconsin&#8217;s congressional maps at the state&#8217;s Supreme Court on Wednesday, just one month after a &#8220;dangerously liberal&#8221; judge was elected to the high court.
The maps were challenged by the Elias Law Group on behalf of nine Wisconsin voters. The suit claims that the maps are designed to disenfranchise Democratic voters.

&#8220;Wisconsin’s congressional map is antithetical to virtually every principle necessary to sustain a representative democracy,&#8221; the <a href="https://bloximages.newyork1.vip.townnews.com/thecentersquare.com/content/tncms/assets/v3/editorial/5/77/57737345-6a62-430d-b8d8-7eff5f356728/681ceadb4a7de.pdf.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">suit</a> alleges. &#8220;It impermissibly disadvantages voters based on their political views and partisan affiliation, systematically disfavoring Democrats because they are Democrats.&#8221;
The suit asks the court to issue a &#8220;lawful&#8221; map to replace the current map. Wisconsin currently has eight congressional seats, made up of six Republicans and two Democrats. The Elias Law Group was founded by Marc Elias, a Democrat super lawyer who has a history of challenging election integrity laws.

The challenge comes after a contentious Supreme Court <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/dangerously-liberal-judge-projected-to-win-wisconsin-supreme-court-race?author=Leif+Le+Mahieu&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=‘Dangerously+Liberal’+Judge+Wins+Wisconsin+Supreme+Court+Race" target="_blank" rel="noopener">election</a> in April that pitted conservative candidate Brad Schimel against liberal Judge Susan Crawford. After what became the most expensive judicial race in American history, Crawford one with 55% of the vote.
One of the key issues during the race was that of congressional maps as both Republicans and Democrats believed that the results of the election would determine the future of the maps. In a media appearance before the election, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) suggested that Democrats could get more favorable maps if Crawford won the race.
“There are gerrymandered congressional lines right now in Wisconsin,” Jeffries said. “As soon as possible, we need to be able to revisit that and have fair lines. The only way for that to be even a significant possibility is if you have an enlightened Supreme Court.”

And whichever party controls the House, to a significant degree controls the country, which then steers the course of Western Civilization,” Musk said, adding that he thought the “entire destiny of humanity” could be impacted by the race.

Wisconsin GOP Congressional Maps In Jeopardy As Leftist Group Appeals To Liberal Supreme Court

The Wisconsin Supreme Court on Tuesday suspended the Milwaukee judge accused of helping an illegal immigrant evade federal agents until further notice. 
The court, which has a 4-3 liberal majority, said Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge Hannah Dugan would be temporarily relieved of duty while she faced federal charges. Dugan was arrested on Friday and charged with obstruction of a federal agency and concealing a person to help them avoid arrest. 
“The court has learned that Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge Hannah C. Dugan has been charged with two federal criminal offenses, one of which is a felony and one of which is a misdemeanor,” the court wrote in an order. &#8220;In the exercise of that constitutional authority and in order to uphold the public confidence in the court of this state during the pendency of the criminal proceeding against Judge Dugan, we conclude on our own motion that it is the public interest that she be temporarily relieved of her official duty.”
It added that Dugan would be “temporarily prohibited from exercising the powers of a circuit court judge in the State of Wisconsin” until further “order of the court.” 
Lawyers for Dugan said that they disagreed with the court’s decision. 
&#8220;We are disappointed that the Court acted in unilateral fashion,&#8221; they <a href="https://www.jsonline.com/story/news/politics/2025/04/29/wisconsin-supreme-court-suspends-judge-hannah-dugan-after-charges/83354123007/">said</a>. &#8220;We continue to assert Judge Dugan’s innocence and look forward to her vindication in court.&#8221;
Federal investigators <a href="https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/25919655-1034-001-1-1/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">say</a> that Dugan helped Eduardo Flores-Ruiz, an illegal immigrant from Mexico, avoid arrest by Immigration and Customs Enforcement when he showed up at the Milwaukee County Court Complex. Flores-Ruiz was charged in Milwaukee with three counts of battery-domestic abuse-infliction of physical pain or injury. He was previously deported in 2013.
According to the FBI, six members of an ICE task force showed up at the courthouse on April 18 to arrest Flores-Ruiz, where they agreed to wait to arrest him until after his domestic abuse appearance. The FBI said that Dugan had been informed of the ICE agents’ presence and “became visibly angry” and called the situation ”absurd,” according to witness interviews.
After directing the arresting ICE team to the chambers of the chief judge, Dugan returned to her courtroom and told Flores-Ruiz to leave through the “jury door” into a non-public part of the courthouse, according to charging documents. Despite leaving the courtroom through the jury door, the ICE arresting team was able to track down Flores-Ruiz outside of the courthouse, where they arrested him after a foot chase.
