President Donald Trump said Tuesday that the Biden Justice Department had targeted and attempted to shut down Turning Point USA, the conservative youth organization founded by the late Charlie Kirk.
Kirk, a well-known conservative political activist, was killed by a gunman at a Turning Point USA event in Utah last week. Kirk launched Turning Point USA in 2012.
“Why was the wonderful Turning Point under INVESTIGATION by ‘Deranged’ Jack Smith and the Corrupt &amp; Incompetent Biden Administration,” the president asked in a <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/115217256645822887">post</a> on Truth Social on Tuesday night.
Former Attorney General Merrick Garland, who served under former President Joe Biden, appointed Smith in November 2022 to serve as special counsel. Smith took over two Justice Department investigations involving Trump. One focused on Trump’s handling of classified documents, and the other concerned Trump’s role in the January 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol.
“They tried to force Charlie, and many other people and movements, out of business. They Weaponized the Justice Department against Sleepy Joe Biden’s Political Opponents, including ME!” Trump added.
Vice President JD Vance echoed the president’s comments during an interview that aired on Fox News on Wednesday evening. Vance said that if the Biden administration had focused more on investigating radical left-wing groups instead of Kirk and his conservative youth organization, Kirk&#8217;s early death may have been prevented.
“We&#8217;re talking about having law enforcement go after the people who engage in and fund literal violence, and they&#8217;re saying somehow that&#8217;s beyond the pale, even though we know Joe Biden&#8217;s FBI was investigating Charlie Kirk,” Vance <a href="https://x.com/RedWave_Press/status/1968479698154831912">told</a> host Jesse Watters. “Maybe they should have been investigating the networks that motivated, inspired, and maybe even funded Charlie Kirk&#8217;s murder. If they had, Charlie Kirk might be alive today.”
White House officials, including the president, have pointed blame at radical left-wing groups for extreme rhetoric that has tacitly or directly encouraged violence against conservatives. On Wednesday evening, the president announced that he is <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-designates-antifa-a-major-terrorist-organization">designating</a> one such group, &#8220;ANTIFA,&#8221; as a terrorist organization.

Topline: Whistleblower documents reveal that during the Biden administration, the FBI secretly targeted Charlie Kirk’s Turning Point USA and other conservative groups.
The investigation targeted not just President Trump, then candidate Trump, but a wide range of conservative groups – including TPUSA. Known as Arctic Frost, the FBI investigation began in April 2022 under the direction of then-Director Christopher Wray. It ensnared 92 Republican-linked entities, from the Republican National Committee to state attorneys general associations.
The aim: The stated objective was to examine what the FBI described as a &#8220;multifaceted conspiracy&#8221; to keep Donald Trump in power after the 2020 election. This included investigating false claims of election fraud and filing lawsuits to challenge the election results. Documents show that the probe also focused on financial aspects, including post-election fundraising that allegedly misled donors about overturning the election results, as well as ties to the January 6 Capitol riot.
But whistleblowers told Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) that the probe expanded far beyond the 2020 election. In November 2022, the probe was handed over to Special Counsel Jack Smith and involved coordination with not only the FBI and DOJ, but also the National Archives, the U.S. Postal Service, and other agencies.
The scale: More than 150 interviews conducted, more than 400 subpoenas issued – including 300 for witness records, 200 phone selectors, and 20 financial probes – plus search warrants for 10 phones, 20 devices, seven iCloud accounts, 28 emails, and even Trump&#8217;s Twitter.
But why? What’s not clear is the specifics of why TPUSA, or really any of these groups, were targeted. There has been no evidence to suggest that TPUSA was involved in a false elector scheme, any financial misconduct, or any other activity that should have put them in the crosshairs of federal investigators. More declassified releases are expected.

Topline: Amid President Trump’s ongoing push to reshape the Federal Reserve, Chairman Jerome Powell announced a cut in interest rates on Wednesday, offering a potential jolt to the Trump economy. 
Powell said the Federal Reserve will be lowering its benchmark interest rate by a quarter point — the first cut since last December. That means some minor, but tangible, relief for those buying a home or car, refinancing their student loans or credit card debt, and so on.
From the horse’s mouth: Powell on Wednesday said: “While the unemployment rate remains low, it has edged up. Job gains have slowed, and downside risks to employment have risen. At the same time, inflation has risen recently and remains somewhat elevated. In support of our goals and in light of this shift in the balance of risks, today the Federal market committee decided to lower our policy interest rate by a quarter percentage point.”
What’s next: Investors are confident this is just the first cut. They’re predicting similar quarter-point cuts in October and December. Many of those investors were clearly thrilled by the news — we saw both the DOW and S&amp;P 500 jump to record highs on Wednesday.
Trump makes moves: This month, Trump appointed and the Senate approved Stephen Miran, one of his top economic advisers, to the Fed’s powerful Board of Governors. That makes Miran one of 12 people voting on rate decisions — while the other 11 voted Wednesday for a quarter-point cut, he was the only one who voted for a larger, half-point cut.
Miran’s role as chair of the White House Economic Council makes him the first Governor in the Board’s 100-plus-year history who’s also technically an employee of the president — though he’ll take a leave of absence from his White House role. 
Democrats respond: Democrats in Congress introduced a bill Tuesday that would bar Federal Reserve officials from simultaneously holding another position appointed by the president. That bill is unlikely to pass the Senate, given the Republican majority, but it could be revived in the future, depending on the outcome of the midterms next year.

Topline: Secretary of State Marco Rubio traveled to the Middle East this week as Israel launched its long-awaited ground invasion of Gaza City, a major population center and one of the last strongholds of Hamas.
Expert opines: Victoria Coates, vice president of the National Security and Foreign Policy Institute at The Heritage Foundation, on the consequences of the invasion of Gaza City: “I think the region understands that this has to happen. It would be desirable to come up with a solution for the Palestinians of Gaza before this was necessary. But the fact of the matter is that Hamas won&#8217;t let them out. They&#8217;re the only population on the planet that aren&#8217;t being allowed to flee from a war zone. And part of that is Hamas. And part of that is the fact that the Egyptians won&#8217;t let them cross there. The Jordanians won&#8217;t let them come to Jordan. That also is telling.”
Israel recently targeted Hamas leaders staying in Doha, Qatar, with an airstrike that was immediately condemned by the Qatari government, which has served as one of the main Arab state mediators between Israel and the terror group Hamas. To the extent that the strike affects negotiations, Coates says it is possible that the impact will be beneficial, “because we weren&#8217;t getting anywhere with the old process.”
Coates: “This was a big step on the part of Israel to strike Hamas in Doha. At least one Hamas terrorist died. So I&#8217;m not going to be sorry about it. But at the same time, that was a potential world crisis between Israel and Qatar and potentially with the rest of the Gulf. Now, the good news is that the secretary flew directly from Tel Aviv to Doha … And so he was pretty much demonstrating through his travel that he&#8217;s going to go talk to both of them. There&#8217;s going to be a direct flight in between them. And … at the Arab summit meeting in Doha, the Abraham Accords countries did not withdraw from the accords. It happened to be the fifth anniversary of the accords on Monday, and that did not happen. They decided to stay in. And so that, to me, is the most powerful symbol that the accords will endure – and we can get back at some point to the business of increasing normalization.”

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) used some of his time during a Wednesday hearing to grill FBI Director Kash Patel over what the FBI is no longer doing in order to be more effective and less political.
Jordan asked Patel — who spent much of his Senate hearing on Tuesday and his House hearing on Wednesday facing off with Democrats in both chambers — a series of rapid-fire questions before giving the Director a chance to answer them. Nearly every question referenced something that the FBI had been accused of doing under former President Joe Biden.

&#8220;Well, maybe that&#8217;s why you&#8217;ve been able to — what was the number, 23,000 bad guys you&#8217;ve arrested? A HUGE increase from the same time period in the previous administration? I think you said 1,400 predators? 4,000 children rescued? Were those the facts?&#8221; Jordan asked.

The Trump administration is changing the tests that immigrants must take to become a citizen to ensure that only those with “the ability to read, write, and speak English and understand U.S. government and civics, are able to naturalize.”
“American citizenship is the most sacred citizenship in the world and should only be reserved for aliens who will fully embrace our values and principles as a nation,” U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services spokesman Matthew Tragesser <a href="https://www.uscis.gov/newsroom/news-releases/uscis-unveils-first-changes-to-naturalization-test-in-multi-step-overhaul-of-american-citizenship">said</a> Wednesday. He added that the changes are so that “the American people can be assured that those joining us as fellow citizens are fully assimilated and will contribute to America’s greatness.”
In 2020, near the end of Trump’s first presidency, USCIS increased the number of questions on the Naturalization Civics Test from 10 to 20. The bar for passage was still low: applicants only had to answer 12 out of 20 correctly, the same as the previous requirement of 6 out of 10. The questions were drawn from a slightly larger pool of 128 instead of 100.
The lengthier test was administered from December 2020 to April 2021. But the Biden administration reverted to the easier version, stating that the 20-question test “may inadvertently create potential barriers to the naturalization process.” It said the move was part of Biden’s “Executive Order on Restoring Faith in Our Legal Immigration Systems.”
A newly published notice in the <a href="https://public-inspection.federalregister.gov/2025-18050.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Federal Register</a> said that the prior determination “was not supported by data or other evidence,” and “the revised test was in place for too short a time” to make such a conclusion. The move to make it easier to become a citizen came as the Biden administration ushered a flood of immigrants into the country.
The Trump administration said tests are administered orally, and prospective citizens can stop taking the test as soon as they answer 12 questions correctly, and that the necessary study materials will be available online.
&#8220;Demonstration of English and civics knowledge is essential to showing an alien’s commitment to fulfill the rights and responsibilities of U.S. citizenship and to actively assimilate into American society,” the notice read. “Understanding the rights and responsibilities of citizenship, engaging with the government, and fully contributing to the democratic process all rely on a basic understanding of U.S. government and civics. Further, knowledge of U.S. government and civics enables naturalized citizens to more fully engage with local and federal government agencies and be active and responsible members of their local communities, furthering the success of our democracy.”
The change comes as a flood of foreigners reject American ideals, such as pluralism, the separation of church and state, and freedom of speech. Mobs of Arabs on college campuses <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/george-washington-university-antisemitism-lawsuit" target="_blank" rel="noopener">took to lawlessness</a> to protest Israel. This week, the Muslim mayor of Dearborn, Michigan, told a Christian man he was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/muslim-mayor-in-dearborn-michigan-tells-christian-resident-you-are-not-welcome-here" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“not welcome here”</a> after he questioned why the city was honoring a man who praised Hezbollah. In Texas, imams threatened shop owners who didn’t abide by <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/sharia-law-comes-knocking-in-texas-abbott-slams-door-shut" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sharia law</a>.
USCIS said the civics test is only “the first of many” changes to be announced in the coming months.
The agency has also “announced several changes, including restoring robust vetting for all aliens and stricter reviews of disability exceptions to the English and civics requirements. USCIS has also provided officers guidance on assessing aliens’ good moral character, looking for positive contributions to American society instead of a mere absence of bad behavior,” it said. Those include reviewing the social media of aliens to ensure that they don’t celebrate terrorism.
On Tuesday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the Trump administration will, for example, revoke or deny visas to foreigners who celebrate the assassination of Charlie Kirk. “We should not be giving visas to people who are going to come to the United States and do things like celebrate the murder, the execution, the assassination of a political figure. We should not. Trump Revives 12-Question Citizenship Test That Biden Said Created ‘Barriers’ For Immigrants

WASHINGTON—The United States will formally shutter an office formerly used to censor the American people, The Daily Wire can first report, as well as any instruments and processes associated with the office that were implemented under President Joe Biden.
The State Department’s Office of Public Diplomacy will officially dismantle the Counter Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference framework today, Acting Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs Darren Beattie shared with The Daily Wire in a Tuesday interview.
The framework, formerly known as the Global Engagement Center (GEC), was created to supposedly counter messaging spread by foreign actors, like violent terrorists abroad.
Instead, the GEC worked to suppress speech from American platforms, including The Daily Wire. The State Department has found that the framework “devolved into tools for political censorship instead of protecting Americans from foreign adversarial propaganda.”
The Daily Wire, The Federalist, and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/daily-wire-texas-ag-ask-court-to-block-state-departments-domestic-misinformation-efforts" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sued the Biden State Department</a> in February 2024 over GEC’s relationship with “anti-misinformation” outfits like NewsGuard and the Global Disinformation Index (GDI), alleging that those groups were focused on suppressing American conservative media.
Beattie’s seat was formerly occupied by the architect of the Global Engagement Center, Richard Stengel, known for his views on moderating the First Amendment. Beattie told The Daily Wire that he finds it satisfying and appropriate that all the tools used in the context of his office are being dismantled within the same office, with a view toward both advancing free speech and centering on free speech once again.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio had directed the closure of the Counter Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference office in April, but as of Tuesday, the State Department stopped all frameworks and tools related to the framework used by the Biden administration, a final step in the office’s demise.
Its closure, the State Department says, aligns with President Donald Trump’s January 20 Executive Order on Restoring Freedom of Speech and Ending Federal Censorship, prohibiting federal censorship and promoting freedom of expression.
Beattie shared on Tuesday that there were some “loose ends” to tie up after Rubio’s April closure of the former GEC. One such loose end was that the GEC undertook a number of agreements with varying degrees of formality with other countries to “facilitate and provide a framework for cooperation on mutual objectives, including principally combating so-called ‘disinformation.’” That was particularly problematic since the GEC was often directly appealing to tech companies to censor such disinformation — “and famously a lot of the names that they submitted to tech companies weren’t even foreign,” he explained.
In fact, Beattie argued, many times when officials would submit names to Twitter, now known as X, they would encourage censorship of an individual and then be told by Twitter, “Hey, this isn&#8217;t some, Chinese group, this isn&#8217;t some Russian group. This was Bob from Minnesota. What are you talking about?”
“This came out in numerous instances in the Twitter files and, on other occasions,” he explained. “And so the GEC would do that, but they would also have an indirect approach to censorship whereby they would fund third-party organizations that would engage in activity from facilitating the demonetization of conservative sites to generally castigating certain narrative perspectives on COVID, on immigration, on foreign policy, as simply malign as a matter of foreign influence when in fact these were entirely legitimate points of view that often came from Americans.”
Beattie also told The Daily Wire that his office is conducting “an extremely laborious, comprehensive, meticulous transparency review.” The results of that review, or at least, the “very first tranche” of it, will come out within the next few weeks.
That review will “reflect the extensive review of hundreds of thousands of emails that will more specifically and systematically document exactly the kinds of nefarious activities that the GEC was involved in in this unfortunate chapter of America’s history,” he shared.
Asked how these files will be rolled out, and whether the information would be shared with the public in a manner similar to that of the “Twitter Files,” published by a group of journalists, including Matt Taibbi, Bari Weiss, Lee Fang, and Michael Shellenberger, Beattie said the release of the review will be “extremely deliberate and appropriate.”
“I think we’re very well aware of how the first kind of tranche came out with the Twitter files, and I think you’ll find our approach to the release of these materials to be entirely appropriate and very satisfying as well,” he shared.

While urging Americans to remember the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, top Republicans on the House Homeland Security Committee are urging vigilance over threats facing the country due to “open-border policies” pushed during the Biden administration. 
The lawmakers are calling for a resolute commitment to border security after a massive surge in individuals on the terror watchlist crossing the border under former President Joe Biden. The lawmakers praised the Trump administration for its actions to lock down the border.
“As a lifelong New Yorker, &#8216;Never Forget&#8217; is more than a phrase of remembrance for me; it is a call to action,” committee Chair Andrew Garbarino (R-NY) told The Daily Wire. “Today, as we honor the nearly 3,000 innocent lives taken by al Qaeda terrorists on 9/11, we also reaffirm our commitment to DHS&#8217;s core counterterrorism mission. Our nation still faces heightened and evolving threats more than two decades after 9/11, particularly following four years of open-border policies.”
From the start of fiscal year 2021 to the end of Biden’s presidency, border patrol agents encountered around 400 individuals on the terror watchlist at the border. At least 2 million illegals who were known “gotaways” entered the country in that same period. From 2017-2020, only 14 individuals on the terror watchlist were apprehended at the border, <a href="https://homeland.house.gov/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/December-24-SS.pdf">according</a> to the committee. 
These threats have come from a variety of countries. It was previously <a href="https://homeland.house.gov/2025/06/26/homeland-republicans-applaud-house-passage-of-rep-greenes-special-interest-alien-reporting-act/">reported</a> that Biden released into the country around 50% of the 1,504 Iranian nationals who were stopped at the border during his presidency. Over the summer, Immigration and Customs Enforcement <a href="https://www.ice.gov/news/releases/ice-arrests-tajikistan-born-russian-national-foreign-fugitive-suspected-being-member">arrested</a> a Tajikistani national suspected of being a member of al Qaeda. The man crossed the border and was released under Biden. 
Garbarino will be leading a visit of Homeland Security members to Ground Zero and the 9/11 Memorial and Museum on Thursday. He praised the work of federal, state, and local law enforcement to protect American communities. 
&#8220;These brave men and women deserve our continued support as they put their lives on the line every day. Alongside the Trump administration, the House Committee on Homeland Security is working to keep our borders secure for years to come — because border security is national security,&#8221; he said. 
Subcommittee on Counterterrorism and Intelligence Chairman August Pfluger told The Daily Wire that the Biden administration’s “reckless open-border policies” led to “blinking red” danger to our security. 
“While President Trump’s Administration has taken strong, decisive action to identify and deport many of these individuals, an unsettling truth remains, we still don’t know how many terrorists may have slipped through the cracks under President Biden’s watch and are now living among us,” he said.

In her new book about her failed 2024 campaign, former Vice President Kamala Harris blasts former President Joe Biden, claiming his re-election bid was driven by ego and that his team actively sought to undermine her in the White House.
The Atlantic on Wednesday <a href="https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2025/09/kamala-harris-107-days-excerpt/684150/">published</a> portions of Harris’s new memoir, “107 Days,” in which she attacks Biden and his team as she discusses her campaign against Donald Trump. 
According to Harris, whenever the prospect of Biden running again was raised, the standard response inside the White House was, “It’s Joe and Jill’s decision.”
“We all said that, like a mantra, as if we’d all been hypnotized. Was it grace, or was it recklessness? In retrospect, I think it was recklessness,” she wrote. “The stakes were simply too high. This wasn’t a choice that should have been left to an individual’s ego, an individual’s ambition. It should have been more than a personal decision.”
Harris said that she couldn’t push Biden to step aside earlier, insisting it would have been seen as a &#8220;self-serving&#8221; move.
“And of all the people in the White House, I was in the worst position to make the case that he should drop out. I knew it would come off to him as incredibly self-serving if I advised him not to run. He would see it as naked ambition, perhaps as poisonous disloyalty, even if my only message was: Don’t let the other guy win,” she wrote. 
Harris denied that there was “some big conspiracy” to hide Biden’s “infirmity,” and claimed that he was “able to discharge the duties of president.” 
“I don’t believe it was incapacity. If I believed that, I would have said so. As loyal as I am to President Biden, I am more loyal to my country,” she said. 
In the excerpts, Harris also claimed Biden’s team repeatedly threw her under the bus for political purposes. She said that when she came under fire from conservative media, “the White House rarely pushed back with my actual résumé.”
“They had a huge comms team; they had Karine Jean-Pierre briefing in the pressroom every day. But getting anything positive said about my work or any defense against untrue attacks was almost impossible,” she wrote. “Worse, I often learned that the president’s staff was adding fuel to negative narratives that sprang up around me.”
She said it seemed like Biden’s team “seemed as if they decided I should be knocked down a little bit more.” Harris was particularly upset that Biden didn’t do more to defend her after he designated her border czar, a title she claimed was mischaracterized by conservative media. 
Harris argued that elevating her profile could have improved Biden’s image with voters.
“Their thinking was zero-sum: If she’s shining, he’s dimmed. None of them grasped that if I did well, he did well. That given the concerns about his age, my visible success as his vice president was vital,” she wrote. 
Harris’s book is set to be released on September 23.

&#8220;Did you see that?&#8221; Doocy pressed on as Trump said he hadn&#8217;t. &#8220;People didn&#8217;t see you for a couple of days, 1.3 million user engagements as of Saturday morning about your demise.&#8221;
Vance shook his head, still smiling, and only then did Trump&#8217;s eyebrows raise: &#8220;Really? I didn&#8217;t see that. Trump then pivoted to compare his busy schedule to that of his predecessor, former President Joe Biden, who routinely went weeks without speaking directly to the press.

Hays appeared on Monday&#8217;s broadcast of &#8220;The Lead&#8221; on CNN, where she told host Phil Mattingly that Trump&#8217;s behavior was &#8220;disconcerting&#8221; and &#8220;concerning&#8221; — despite the fact that she herself had worked in a White House that had actively hidden Biden from both the press and the public.
&#8220;I don&#8217;t know, I think that everyone would like to know. I think that it’s really disconcerting,&#8221; she said of Trump&#8217;s weekend spent firing off a few social media posts but otherwise staying away from the press and the public. &#8220;The president has been very vocal with press all the time. I think in August, he spent 26 days doing public events or talking to press. So to go down for 6 days and just have a slew of Truth Social posts that are very chaotic and people can’t follow all of them — it’s very concerning, and I think that people — it could be raising questions.&#8221;
&#8220;The president could just be taking a few days down in August — which is normal for presidents to do. Or there could be actually something wrong. The problem is we don’t know. And they’re not being transparent about it,&#8221; she argued.
Mattingly reeled the segment back in, saying that he wasn&#8217;t &#8220;totally opposed&#8221; to Trump &#8220;going dark for a couple of days,&#8221; especially since, as Hays had noted, he had been going nonstop for the entire month of August.

Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), 78, has declared that he will not seek reelection next year — and that he plans to step aside in an effort to allow for younger Democrats to step into leadership positions.
As reported on Monday by The New York Times, Nadler said that watching former President Joe Biden over the last several years had moved him to consider making way for the next generation of leaders.
“Watching the Biden thing really said something about the necessity for generational change in the party, and I think I want to respect that,” Nadler explained, saying that he hoped the next person to fill his seat “can maybe do better, can maybe help us more.”
With 34 years in Congress, Nadler is both the longest-serving New Yorker and the longest-serving Jewish member of the U.S. House — and he claimed that he was a bit uncertain about bowing out at first because he believed he still needed to fight against President Donald Trump — but the writing may have been on the wall long before Nadler was willing to read it.

The New York Rep. recently lost his leadership position in the House Judiciary Committee at the beginning of the current Congress when the party shifted its focus toward younger leaders — and he was expected to face a primary in his home district, likely from a number of candidates who are younger and more progressive than he is.
Nadler was involved in both Trump impeachment attempts &#8212; in 2019 and 2021 &#8212; <a href="https://time.com/5743613/jerry-nadler-trump-impeachment-probe/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">helping to lead</a> the former.
The news of Nadler’s retirement comes in the wake of a new congressional map in Texas that may net Republicans as many as five additional seats — and as several other states move to change their maps as well, either in retaliation to or in an effort to supplement Texas’ actions.
Nadler’s exit will not likely change the balance in Congress, however, since his district covers a large swath of Manhattan and is considered to be a safely blue district.

A federal judge on Sunday blocked the Trump administration’s plan to return 76 unaccompanied illegal immigrant children found at the U.S. southern border to Guatemala.
U.S. District Judge Sparkle Sooknanan sided with attorneys for the children, who argued that returning them to Guatemala would put them at risk. The Justice Department maintained that the children were being reunited with their parents and guardians.
“Here, Plaintiff children have demonstrated clear and irreparable harms if removed to Guatemala,” Sooknanan, a Biden appointee, <a href="https://www.nilc.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/LGML-v.-Noem-TRO.pdf">wrote</a>. “Several plaintiffs lack guardians who can provide safety and care. Many fear return and wish to continue pursuing their asylum claims before the immigration courts. Facing risks of persecution and torture. Further, Defendants have failed to comply with legal obligations to ensure safe repatriation to Guatemala.”
Sooknanan claimed that the Trump administration was discriminating against the children based on their nationality and had not given them due process. 
Justice Department lawyer Drew Ensign <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/biden-judge-halts-surprising-illegal-alien-minor-repatriation-plan-after-advocacy-groups-sue" target="_blank" rel="noopener">stated</a> that the parents or guardians of the children had requested the return of their children. The kids are being represented by the Young Center for Immigrant Children&#8217;s Rights. 
&#8220;These are not removals under the statute,” he said. “These are repatriations. All of these children have parents or guardians in Guatemala who have requested their return.&#8221;
The Associated Press <a href="https://apnews.com/article/immigration-unaccompanied-children-trump-deportations-guatemala-3790909d69f19fd8cd8edffb6b3215c3">reported</a> that many of the children set to be returned to Guatemala had already boarded their planes and were awaiting takeoff when the judge’s order came through. 
White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller ripped into the judge for the decision. 
“The Biden judge is effectively kidnapping these migrant children and refusing to let them return home to their parents in their home country,” he posted on X. 
Under President Joe Biden, the number of unaccompanied children encountered at the U.S. southern border surged. More than 500,000 children were found at the border under Biden, according to numbers <a href="https://www.grassley.senate.gov/news/news-releases/bombshell-report-confirms-grassley-oversight-of-biden-harris-admins-failure-to-protect-migrant-children">released</a> by Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA). Of those children, the Department of Homeland Security failed to properly track at least 233,000, while tens of thousands were released to unrelated sponsors or distant relatives.

President Donald Trump will end former Vice President Kamala Harris’ Secret Service protection, which former President Joe Biden had quietly extended beyond the usual timeframe.
Harris’ Secret Service protection will end on Monday, according to a Thursday letter <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2025/08/29/politics/kamala-harris-secret-service-canceled-trump-biden">obtained</a> by CNN. A senior White House official confirmed the cancellation of the Secret Service detail on Friday morning. 
“You are hereby authorized to discontinue any security-related procedures previously authorized by Executive Memorandum, beyond those required by law, for the following individual, effective September 1, 2025: Former Vice President Kamala D. Harris,” a letter from the White House to the Department of Homeland Security read.
Federal law requires that vice presidents get six months of taxpayer-funded Secret Service protection after leaving office. Biden took executive action before completing his term, giving Harris 18 total months of Secret Service protection, NBC <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/white-house/trump-revokes-secret-service-protection-former-president-kamala-harris-rcna227959">reported</a>. Typically, her Secret Service detail would have been pulled on July 21. 
“The Vice President is grateful to the United States Secret Service for their professionalism, dedication, and unwavering commitment to safety,” senior Harris adviser Kirsten Allen said, commenting on the decision. 
California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom was briefed on the end of Harris’s Secret Service protection, CNN reported. 
“The safety of our public officials should never be subject to erratic, vindictive political impulses,” Newsom spokesman Bob Salladay said. 
In the coming weeks, Harris is set to embark on a national tour to promote her book, “107 Days,” which documents her failed 2024 presidential campaign.

Trump has previously moved to end Secret Service details for other former government officials. Shortly after beginning his second term, Trump yanked the Secret Service details for former National Security Adviser John Bolton, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, and former Iran envoy Brian Hook.
He also revoked the Secret Service details for Hunter and Ashley Biden in March. In a Truth Social <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/114180054723679623/">post</a> at the time, Trump said that 31 agents were protecting the half-siblings. 
“Hunter Biden has had Secret Service protection for an extended period of time, all paid for by the United States Taxpayer. There are as many as 18 people on this Detail, which is ridiculous! He is currently vacationing in, of all places, South Africa, where the Human Rights of people has been strenuously questioned,” Trump wrote. “Hunter Biden will no longer receive Secret Service protection. Likewise, Ashley Biden who has 13 agents will be taken off the list.”
