The Trump administration has found more than 129,000 migrant children who went missing under the Biden administration.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced on X Friday that federal authorities located the children after &#8220;the Biden administration lost them&#8221; and that &#8220;too many &#8230; were exploited, trafficked and abused.&#8221;
&#8220;We will continue to ramp up efforts and will not stop until every last child is found,&#8221; Noem said.

Federal officials combed through immigration court records and data kept by United States Citizenship and Immigration Services to find the children, a federal government source familiar with the operation told The Daily Wire. They only counted those who showed up for their immigration hearings.

It was a massive undertaking since the Biden administration kept poor records on the children after they crossed into the United States, said the source, who was granted anonymity because they weren&#8217;t authorized to speak publicly.
&#8220;Under the Biden administration, the data was so bad, and our ability to find where these cases went was so bad, we just had to comb through every single agency to see if these kids [had] ever stepped in front of another agency,&#8221; the source explained.
&#8220;The kid had to be present [in court] for us to count it,&#8221; the source added.
Earlier this month, the Trump administration revealed it had located roughly 62,000 of the missing migrant children.
Border Patrol agents must hand unaccompanied migrant kids to the Department of Health and Human Services, which helps connect them with a sponsor living in the United States.
Under the Biden administration, roughly 500,000 migrant minors crossed the border unaccompanied. Many of them were released to poorly vetted sponsors who, whistleblowers say, never had to appear in person to prove the children were going to safe homes.
The vetting concerns were also corroborated in an inspector general&#8217;s <a href="https://www.oig.dhs.gov/sites/default/files/assets/2024-08/OIG-24-46-Aug24.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> released last year.
Whistleblowers said they believed some of the sponsors were traffickers and gangbangers.
Roughly 291,000 unaccompanied migrant children were never given their court dates, the government watchdog found.
Another 32,000 migrant children who had future court dates never showed up to their hearings, according to the report, which tracked cases from October 2018 to September 2023.

On Wednesday night, President Trump attempted a reset of the first year of his presidency. It was an effort to seize the narrative away from the Left, which keeps hammering away about “affordability.”
To set the scene: The president obviously is looking forward to the 2026 midterm elections, but Republicans are not in amazing shape for them. They&#8217;re down on the generic congressional ballot by a significant amount at this point. If the elections were held today, there is a high likelihood that Republicans would lose somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 seats.
With that said, the president is attempting to convince Americans that things are getting better.
It was great that he showed charts, a Reagan-esque move. President Reagan used to do this back in the 80s. He would do a national address, and he would take out actual charts and try to educate the American people about what was happening.
President Trump did that last night. He showed Joe Biden&#8217;s price increases and Trump&#8217;s price decreases in a wide variety of areas, ranging from hotel rates up 37.4% under Joe Biden, down 5.1% under Trump; propane rates 24.9% up under Biden, down 4.2% under Trump; gasoline up nearly 31% under Joe Biden, down 7% under Trump; sporting events up nearly 50% under Joe Biden, down almost 10% under Trump.
Those are all good things to show the American people.

The one problem is that when you look at a chart like that, you think that the baseline price has gone down from where it was before Joe Biden — but that&#8217;s not true. If the price rises 40% under Joe Biden and then comes down 10% under Donald Trump, it&#8217;s still higher than it was before Joe Biden took office.
That&#8217;s the embedded part of the economy that President Trump is not really going to be able to wipe away. Years of inflation cannot be wiped away absent some sort of economic downturn.

But the president was right to point out real wage increases under his tenure and wage decreases under Joe Biden. The private sector wage growth averaged $1,048 since he returned to the White House, versus losses of almost $3,000 under Joe Biden. The president showed the new yearly mortgage cost increase under Joe Biden was up almost $15,000, versus Trump&#8217;s new yearly mortgage cost decrease, down almost $3,000.
When he referred to Obamacare, he pointed out it&#8217;s not the Republicans’ fault, it&#8217;s the Democrats’ fault. It&#8217;s the Unaffordable Care Act.
And that is true.
So here’s the Big Question: Why aren’t Americans feeling it?
There are a few reasons. One is that Americans expect the amounts they currently pay to actively plunge, not just from where they were last year, but from where they were three or four years ago. But if you radically inflate prices and then decrease them marginally, people are still going to feel priced out.
A second reason is that many of the items the president cited as having dropped in price are not the items that Americans most commonly buy. The number one complaint you will hear from Americans right now about pricing is in the grocery store. If you&#8217;re shopping for a family of four for a week of food, you&#8217;re now paying, in some cases, 30-40% more than you were just three or four years ago. And if the places that you most often shop are the places where you feel the most inflation and the most “unaffordability,” that&#8217;s what&#8217;s going to stick in your mind.
Yes, mortgage rates might be down, but how many people are actually taking out a new mortgage this year in the United States? Not very many.
If the thing you buy most frequently is up in price, you&#8217;re going to feel pressed. If the thing you buy once every 20 years is down in price, you&#8217;re not going to feel that quite as much because your last comp wasn&#8217;t last year, your last comp was probably ten years ago, or 15 or 20 years ago. If your last mortgage was taken out at 2.5% under the George W. Bush administration, and your new mortgage is being taken out at 5.75% under the Trump administration, you&#8217;re going to feel like things are more expensive, even though the mortgage rates are down from where they were a year or two ago.
But I&#8217;ve been saying for a while that “affordability” is a weasel word.
Affordability is vague. Affordability is a feeling. You can&#8217;t ask people, “Are things affordable?” and expect them to say yes. Virtually no one who is not truly wealthy thinks of things as “affordable.” For most of my life, everything felt unaffordable, and then at a certain point, we achieved a certain level of income where things felt more affordable.
But you have to move dramatically up in the income ladder in order for things to feel “affordable.” When you think about whether things are affordable or not, what you mean is, am I thinking about the price of the thing that I am buying?
“Affordability” is a feeling. It&#8217;s not a statistical fact.
Thus, President Trump dove into the facts, which was necessary and good.

The White House unveiled new plaques beneath the portraits of American presidents on its Presidential Walk of Fame on Wednesday, with some of the plaques including President Donald Trump&#8217;s jabs at former Presidents Joe Biden and Barack Obama.
The Presidential Walk of Fame, which is located along the outside wall of West Wing, includes biographies for every U.S. president. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said that Trump, &#8220;as a student of history,&#8221; wrote some of the descriptions himself, which is evident, as much of the sentence structure and grammar is reflective of the president&#8217;s unique style usually seen in his social media posts.
Instead of a photo of Biden for the former president&#8217;s portrait, the White House displays an image of an autopen. The text beneath the image reads, &#8220;Sleepy Joe Biden was, by far, the worst President in American History. Taking office as a result of the most corrupt Election ever seen in the United States, Biden oversaw a series of unprecedented disasters that brought our Nation to the brink of destruction. His policies caused the highest Inflation ever recorded, leading the U.S. Dollar to lose more than 20% of its value in 4 years. His Green New Scam surrendered American Energy Dominance and, by abolishing the Southern Border, Biden let 21 million people from all over the World pour into the United States, including from prisons, jails, mental institutions, and insane asylums. His Afghanistan Disaster was among the most humiliating events in American History, and resulted in the murder of 13 brave American Servicemembers, with many others gravely wounded. As President, he passed the highly ineffective ‘Unaffordable’ Care Act, resulting in his party losing control of both Houses of Congress, and the Election of the largest House Republican majority since 1946. He presided over a stagnant Economy, approved the terrible Iran Nuclear Deal, and signed the one-sided Paris Climate Accords, both of which were later terminated by President Donald J. Trump.”

Trump&#8217;s plaque for President George W. Bush was far more friendly, but it still took a shot at Bush over the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

His Administration was largely defined by the events of September 11, 2001 — The destruction of the World Trade Center, after which he led the war on terror. President Bush created the Department of Homeland Security, but started wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, both of which should not have happened. He also enacted Tax Cuts, expanded Medicare, signed the No Child Left Behind education bill, and launched the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). Shortly before the end of his Administration, a Global Financial Crisis and major Recession took place.”
For President Bill Clinton, Trump&#8217;s plaque highlights the economic boom in the 1990s, but it also mentions the &#8220;scandals that plagued his presidency.&#8221; The end of Clinton&#8217;s biography states, &#8220;In 2016, President Clinton’s wife, Hillary Clinton, lost the Presidency to President Donald J. Trump!&#8221;
President Ronald Reagan&#8217;s plaque reads, &#8220;Ronald Reagan won the Cold War, and transformed American politics and the Conservative Movement. Before entering the White House, Reagan was a Hollywood actor, President of the Screen Actors Guild, Governor of California and, for decades, a leading voice in American Conservatism. As President, he enacted Tax Cuts, presided over a thriving Economy, and rebuilt the American Military. He survived being shot by an assassin, and confronted the Soviet Union with striking moral clarity, labeling it an &#8216;evil empire,&#8217; and putting unprecedented pressure on the Communist menace. Known as &#8216;The Great Communicator,&#8217; he was re-elected in a landslide in 1984, and left office with high approval, having restored National Confidence, Spirit, and Will. He was a fan of President Donald J. Trump long before President Trump’s Historic run for the White House. Likewise, President Trump was a fan of his!&#8221;
Of course, the most admiring biography was for Trump, with the president&#8217;s plaques reading, &#8220;On January 20, 2025, Donald J. Trump became the first President in 132 years to be sworn into office for a second non-consecutive term, following his Historic Victory in an Electoral College landslide, 312 to 226. Overcoming unprecedented Weaponization of Law Enforcement against him, as well as two assassination attempts, he won all battleground States by millions of votes, was the first Republican in decades to win the Popular Vote, BIG, and won 86% of Counties in America, 2,700 to 525. All 50 States shifted toward the Republican Party for the first time ever. At his Inauguration, President Trump announced the beginning of the &#8216;Golden Age of America,&#8217; and he delivered, ending eight wars in his first eight months, securing the Border, deporting gang members and migrant criminals, making our Cities safe, helping our Farmers, defeating Inflation, reducing Energy costs, and drawing Trillions of Dollars of new Investment, a RECORD, into the United States.&#8221;

President Trump has <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-files-5-billion-lawsuit-against-bbc-over-malicious-documentary">launched</a> a multi-billion dollar lawsuit against the BBC as he continues to clash with media outlets at home and abroad. This week, the president filed a 46-page lawsuit in a federal court in Miami, accusing the BBC of defamation and violation of Florida’s Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act. He is looking for $10 billion from the broadcaster. The suit stems from a documentary the BBC released ahead of the 2024 election titled, “Trump: A Second Chance.” The film spliced together two quotes from Trump&#8217;s speech that were said about an hour apart, making it appear as if the president called for violence at the U.S. Capitol and leaving out Trump’s request to protest &#8220;peacefully and patriotically.&#8221; The lawsuit accused the BBC of “intentionally, maliciously and deceptively doctoring [Trump’s] speech in a brazen attempt to interfere in the 2024 presidential election.”

A <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/fbi-doubted-probable-cause-mar-a-lago-raid-pushed-forward-amid-pressure-from-biden-doj-emails-reveal">report</a> published Tuesday by Fox News Digital detailed a number of emails between the FBI and the DOJ regarding concerns that Trump had taken classified documents to his Florida home — and how to best resolve the situation — and the DOJ ignored the FBI agents assigned to the case who repeatedly suggested alternatives to an outright raid of the property.
&#8220;Very little has been developed related to who might be culpable for mishandling the documents,&#8221; one FBI official — identified as an assistant special agent in charge — wrote to Anthony Riedlinger, another FBI official. &#8220;From the interviews, [Washington Field Office] has gathered information suggesting that there may be additional boxes (presumably of the same type as were sent back to NARA in January) at Mar-a-Lago.&#8221;
The official added that while they were in the process of drafting a search warrant, there were &#8220;some concerns that the information is single source, has not been corroborated, and may be dated.&#8221;
&#8220;DOJ CES opines, however, that the SW’s meet the probable cause standard,&#8221; the official said, but went on to note that the WFO still had reservations and had suggested instead that they have a conversation with Trump&#8217;s attorneys, informing them that the FBI was moving on a search warrant in the hopes of encouraging cooperation rather than confrontation.

&#8220;At a minimum, even if the former president’s attorney is correct and the documents were all declassified (or believed to be declassified), it can be reasonably argued that the documents remain sensitive and should be properly secured until the matter of classification is sorted out,&#8221; the official added, noting that they could still move forward with the search warrant process at the same time.
Weeks passed and then another email from an unnamed FBI agent stated, &#8220;We haven’t generated any new facts, but keep being given draft after draft after draft.&#8221;
The agent made it clear that the case was viewed as a nonstarter and an overall waste of time: &#8220;Absent a witness coming forward with recent information about classified on site, at what point is it fair to table this? It is time consuming for the team, and not productive if there are no new facts supporting PC (probable cause)?&#8221;
Yet another email stated that officials within the WFO did &#8220;not believe (and has articulated to DOJ CES), that we have established probable cause for the search warrant for classified records at Mar a Lago.&#8221;
Additionally, FBI officials asserted that plans for a raid should be set aside in favor of &#8220;alternative, less intrusive and likelier quicker options for resolution.&#8221;
&#8220;The FBI intends for the execution of the warrant to be handled in a professional, low key manner, and to be mindful of the optics of the search,&#8221; another agent wrote, noting that Deputy Assistant Attorney General George Toscas had said he &#8220;frankly doesn’t give a damn about the optics.&#8221;
&#8220;I understand that this request may not go well at DOJ, however, it is the FBI serving and executing the search and it will be our personnel who will have to deal with the reaction to that first contact,&#8221; the agent added.
The raid went ahead on August 8, 2022.
FBI Director Kash Patel <a href="https://x.com/FBIDirectorKash/status/2000999942303998185">confirmed</a> the report in an X post on Tuesday, saying, &#8220;It’s true &#8211; we just turned over documents to Capitol Hill to be made public showing the FBI told DOJ they did not have probable cause for raiding President Trump’s home in Mar A Lago but DOJ “didn’t give a damn” and did it anyway.&#8221;

The Biden administration allowed roughly 18,000 known or suspected terrorists into the country, Director of the United States National Counterterrorism Center Joe Kent testified to the House Homeland Security Committee Thursday.
Kent revealed that 2,000 of the 18,000 known or suspected terrorists were let into the country as part of the Biden administration&#8217;s program to bring Afghans to the United States following the botched troop withdrawal from the war-torn country. He also said that the 18,000 number doesn&#8217;t include the &#8220;unknown&#8221; number of terrorists the Biden administration allowed in after they crossed the border.
&#8220;We&#8217;re working right now hand in hand with DHS and with the FBI to run down this 2,000 — the Afghans that came here under Operation Allies Welcome who have ties to terrorist organizations, and additionally the other 16,000 individuals with ties to terrorist organizations that Biden let into our country,&#8221; Kent said.
&#8220;That is probably the top terrorist threat that we face right now and that doesn&#8217;t include the individuals that came here illegally through the open border, that number alarmingly remains unknown at this time. We&#8217;re trying to figure out who those individuals are as well,&#8221; he added.

The top counterterrorism official cited the Biden administration&#8217;s admission of the Afghan man accused of shooting two National Guard soldiers in Washington, D.C., last month, killing one of them. He said the Biden administration created a &#8220;ruse&#8221; to allow him into the country.
&#8220;These are individuals who under normal circumstances would never be allowed to enter our country because of their ties to jihadi groups like ISIS and Al-Qaeda, yet the Biden administration not only let them into the country and in many cases facilitated their entry into the country, just like the entry of the Afghan terrorist who committed the terrorist attack here just before Thanksgiving, killing one of our National Guard members and wounding another,&#8221; Kent said.

Senator Adam Schiff complained during a recent interview that former Attorney General Merrick Garland had not done enough to prosecute President Donald Trump, and claimed that the reason was Garland&#8217;s unwillingness to be seen as a partisan actor.
Schiff argued that Garland had intentionally slow-walked efforts made by then-President Joe Biden&#8217;s Justice Department to prosecute Trump — in cases that stretched across multiple jurisdictions — because he was taking precautions to ensure that those prosecutions were not partisan in nature.

Schiff, during a lengthy conversation with The New Yorker&#8217;s David Remnick, effectively complained that Garland&#8217;s &#8220;reluctance&#8221; to prosecute Trump had kept him out of prison long enough for him to win reelection.
&#8220;I hear all the time how the Justice Department under Merrick Garland, under that horrible partisan Merrick Garland, was so weaponized against Donald Trump. And that&#8217;s a complete fiction of fabrication,&#8221; Schiff insisted.
&#8220;Do you feel that Merrick Garland moved too slowly, too cautiously?&#8221; Remnick asked.
&#8220;I absolutely do. Yeah. And this is the irony of it, of attacking Merrick Garland, which is they moved with alacrity against the foot soldiers who broke into the Capitol that day,&#8221; Schiff complained. &#8220;They moved not at all for entire year against the higher-ups.&#8221;
&#8220;Why did Merrick Garland move so slowly?&#8221; Remnick pressed. &#8220;What about his character or tactics or strategy led him to behave that way?&#8221;
&#8220;The Justice Department in the first Trump was abused and made partisan, and he wished to restore the Department&#8217;s reputation for independence. Now, what they did in the first Trump Justice Department is peanuts compared to today,&#8221; Schiff insisted. &#8220;But nevertheless, Merrick Garland wanted to restore the reputation of the Department for strict non-partisanship. And that made him very reluctant to pursue an investigation of the President, too reluctant.&#8221;
Schiff then pinned the blame on the Supreme Court, arguing that Garland&#8217;s lack of urgency had given the court time to throw out additional roadblocks. His overall assessment was that Garland may have had the right idea, but that his execution had created a buffer zone around Trump that actually helped him prevail.
&#8220;Ultimately that gave the Supreme Court the time it needed to drag things out further and make the case against Trump go away completely when it could have been brought to fruition,&#8221; he added. &#8220;And we might be in a very different place today, but I think it was that laudable aim that taken too far amounted to a kind of immunity for the President.&#8221;

President Donald Trump touted the effects of his immigration and economic policies on the American worker on Tuesday.
Trump spoke at a rally at Mount Airy Casino Resort in Pennsylvania, the first stop on a tour touting his administration’s record on the economy as Washington prepares for the fight over midterm elections. At one point, the president highlighted net new job creation numbers and a nexus of his economic and immigration policies.
“Before I entered office, 100% of all new net jobs were going to migrant workers,” said Trump. “Migrant workers and illegal aliens got 100%. But since I took office, 100% of all net job creation has gone to American citizens. How about that?” 
“Now think of it, 100% went to American citizens. Before, 100% went to people that came into the country illegally–again, many of them from prisons, many of them gang members, drug members, Tren de Aragua,” he continued. “More Americans are working today than at any time in the history of our country.”

Later on in the speech, the president <a href="https://x.com/RapidResponse47/status/1998567915201901007">credited</a> the growth of new jobs for Americans to his policies that have led to “reverse migration,” or more people leaving the United States than coming in, for the first time in decades in the country.

The president kicked off a rally tour over the economy this week as Republicans seek to rebound from last month’s electoral results in New Jersey, Virginia, and New York. Democrats celebrated victories across a number of local and state positions after running on a message of “affordability.” Democrats also tended to ignore their GOP opponents and run campaigns targeting Trump.
The president has been critical of Republicans over their messaging on the economy. Trump has suggested that Democratic messaging on affordability has been effective because Republicans have not done enough to sell GOP actions on the economy, such as attracting hundreds of billions of dollars in investment, cutting regulations, and unleashing American energy.

State of play: Peace talks have made some progress over the past few weeks, but that progress has stalled. After President Trump <a href="https://x.com/RapidResponse47/status/1997812364931195249">appeared</a> frustrated on Sunday and suggested that Zelensky was ignoring the peace plan, the Ukrainian president addressed the current framework on Monday.
According to Zelensky, the disagreement is over the Donbas region in Ukraine’s east. The Trump administration reportedly wants Ukraine to hand over control of the rest of the Donbas to Russia, which controls most of it already. In return, Ukraine would get security guarantees and financing to help rebuild. But Zelensky says he can’t because the Ukrainian constitution forbids ceding territory that way.
Zelensky’s corner: Zelensky wants a freeze along the current lines of the conflict. And he doesn’t appear to be alone. European leaders seem frustrated, too.
Zelensky appeared in London on Monday and met with the E3, or the top leaders in Europe: U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
“The principles remain the principles that we&#8217;ve operated on for a very, very long time, which is that we stand with Ukraine. If there&#8217;s to be a ceasefire, it needs to be a just and lasting ceasefire,” <a href="https://x.com/ZelenskyyUa/status/1998077179251261884">said</a> Starmer.
Merz was the most vocal about disagreements with the United States:
“We are still and remain strongly behind Ukraine and giving support to your country because we all know that the destiny of [Ukraine] is the destiny of Europe,” <a href="https://x.com/ZelenskyyUa/status/1998077179251261884">said</a> Merz. “I&#8217;m skeptical about some of the details which we are seeing in the documents coming from the U.S. side, but we have to talk about that.”

Morning Wire: The Senate Small Business Committee oversees the Small Business Administration and its government-wide minority contracting program called 8(a) or “set-aside contracting.&#8221; Luke, you’re getting prepared to testify–that’s very exciting. First, how did this come about–it’s actually years in the making, right?
Rosiak: About 15 years ago, I was sitting in a cafe doing some computer programming when I got offered a job. A well-dressed black man was sitting next to me and said he noticed that I was programming in C++, and that he needed to hire some people quickly for the computer programming company he owned.
The problem is I was coding in a different language that looks nothing like C++. I tried to figure out how he owned a computer company and didn’t know that. He said it was an 8(a) contract from the government, and that he just gets contracts and then finds people to do the work.
It struck me that this is a pretty poor way to run the government. I’m not even a professional computer programmer; I just dabble in it. But for all I know, he was ready to hire me to build some sensitive government system.
Anyway, instead of taking the job, I dug into this 8(a) program, and what I found was that that’s more or less exactly how it works.
Morning Wire: Explain to us–what exactly is going on here?
Rosiak: If you’re a racial minority, the government can give you a contract without trying to find the best price or the best person.
More than five percent of all federal contracts are reserved for minorities and women, who are often really just men who put their company in their wife’s name. The program was created in 1978 to help black people, but now it’s gone really off the rails. Indians get preference for contracts even though they have a higher median income than whites, and they’re overrepresented in fields like IT, which didn’t even exist prior to the civil rights era. 
Morning Wire: So some of the people receiving these preferential U.S. government contracts are actually foreigners, people who are minorities because they’re immigrants.
Rosiak: Yes. But what I’m going to tell the Senate is that the scandal here is a little different than you might think. It’s really a loophole exploited by the government and big corporations, you heard Accenture mentioned in that video, to circumvent competitive bidding.

A shocking <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/12/07/us/politics/biden-immigration-trump.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> from The New York Times said that President Biden was warned while on the campaign trail, before he even assumed office, that some of his immigration policies would lead to political chaos. That&#8217;s exactly what happened as the consequences of Biden’s policies began to unfold at the border.
The record amounts of illegal immigration that swamped the border, then towns, then major cities, drove the immigration issue to become a priority for voters in the next election. The issue also likely played a major role in President Trump&#8217;s victory.

In a 2020 memo from aides cautioned Biden’s “inner circle” “that his promises—coupled with pent-up demand from the Trump years and economic hardship from Covid—could provoke a spike in border crossings,” according to the Times.
The memo offered potential solutions to tighten permissions for illegal border crossers, “including making it easier to quickly reject asylum claims; holding people in ‘reception centers’ until their cases could be heard; transferring some migrants to other countries; and continuing to make some asylum seekers wait in Mexico, while ensuring they had access to shelter,” the Times reported.
Coulda, woulda, shoulda: After the fact, many former officials are saying there were many mistakes made on the Biden team and by Biden himself, who knowingly went against this advice. They scrapped rules such as asylum restrictions and remain in Mexico, which kept people in Mexico rather than releasing them into the United States after they crossed illegally.
After the changes, the number of illegal crossings ticked up–8 million illegal immigrants crossed into the country and many were released. Border authorities conducted poor vetting because Biden wanted a very quick, expeditious process. That let in terrorists, traffickers, and cartel members that led to chaos across the country, such as in Aurora, Colorado, where Tren de Aragua took over apartment complexes.

A day before 29-year-old Afghan national Rahmanullah Lakanwal opened fire on two National Guardsmen patrolling near the White House, the NGO that reportedly settled the shooter in the United States condemned President Donald Trump for ordering further vetting of refugees.
On November 25, World Relief, one of nine voluntary organizations contracted by the State Department to facilitate housing and employment assistance for refugees, issued a <a href="https://worldrelief.org/pr-world-relief-condemns-a-uscis-memo-halting-green-card-processing-for-200000-refugees-calling-it-destabilizing-and-morally-unjust/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">press release</a> in response to an internal memo from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) requiring additional scrutiny of all refugees who entered the country during the Biden administration.
In the statement, World Relief president and CEO Myal Greene called the additional vetting a “moral and ethical betrayal of due process,” and VP Matt Soerens said that it would “retraumatiz[e]” refugees brought to the United States.
The following day, according to witnesses, Lakanwal fired on the guards while shouting, “Allahu akbar.” Twenty-year-old Specialist Sarah Beckstrom died from her wounds, and 24-year-old Staff Sergeant Andrew Wolfe is still in serious condition.
Greene insisted in World Relief’s statement that the Afghans had been sufficiently vetted.
“Refugees admitted under the U.S. refugee resettlement program have undergone some of the most rigorous vetting of any immigrant lawfully admitted into the United States, yet this sweeping re-interview initiative is nothing less than a calculated effort to strip lawful status from thoroughly-vetted, law-abiding people,” he said.
But according to a 2022 Department of Homeland Security inspector general report released under Biden appointee Alejandro Mayorkas, the chaos of the Afghanistan withdrawal left significant gaps in information, and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) often lacked significant data for the entries, such as “name, date of birth, identification number, and travel document data.” In one sample of 88,977 evacuee records, 417 lacked first names, 242 lacked last names, 11,110 had January 1 birthdates, and 7,800 had missing or invalid travel documents.
“We also determined CBP admitted or paroled evacuees who were not fully vetted into the United States,” DHS investigators concluded.
A <a href="about:blank" target="_blank" rel="noopener">2024 DHS report</a> involving three Department of Homeland Security divisions — CBP, USCIS, and ICE — similarly found that CBP did not always have critical data to properly screen, vet, or inspect the evacuees and that DHS’s “fragmented” process resulted in chaotic conditions that led to lost information and background checks that were deferred until after departure from Afghanistan. During his April 2025 confirmation hearing, Director of the National Counterterrorism Center Joe Kent <a href="https://www.mei.edu/publications/thousands-once-protected-afghan-refugees-united-states-face-deportation" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> that after reviewing data from the National Counterterrorism Center, he found that more than 1,400 Afghans with suspected links to ISIS had been admitted into the country.
The New York Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/11/27/us/guard-shooting-suspect-profile.html#:~:text=Mr.%20Lakanwal's%20unit%20was%20based,who%20had%20helped%20U.S.%20troops" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> on November 27 that World Relief was involved with resettling Lakanwal in Washington State, but since then, the organization has declined to elaborate, telling NPR they “cannot confirm whether or not [they] have served any specific client without permission from [their] federal government partners who administered the process for bringing Afghans to the United States beginning in 2021.”
What is known is that the State Department designated Whatcom County, Washington, which includes Bellingham, where Lakanwal resided, as a resettlement site for Afghan evacuees under Biden’s Operation Allies Welcome (OAW). World Relief’s local office there was tasked with aiding refugees’ initial integration.
While the NGO, founded in 1944 by the National Association of Evangelicals, once relied almost entirely on private contributions, today the bulk of its funding comes from the federal government.
In 2021, it received <a href="about:blank" target="_blank" rel="noopener">$56 million in federal grants and contracts</a> and only $13 million in private contributions. Through its work with the Soros-funded <a href="https://evangelicalimmigrationtable.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Evangelical Immigration Table</a>, World Relief is heavily involved in lobbying churches and evangelical organizations to back bills that would grant legal status to illegal immigrants.
In 2018, they launched the “<a href="https://evangelicalimmigrationtable.com/iwasastranger/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">I Was a Stranger” challenge</a>, a “40-day Scripture-reading guide composed of short Bible passages that relate in one way or another to the theme of immigration.” This curriculum, which many critics argue cherry-picks and manipulates Scripture for progressive policy aims, was sent to churches across the country, and Soerens’ work promoting it was published and promoted in influential evangelical publications like <a href="https://www.christianitytoday.com/2024/11/trump-deportation-immigration-temporary-protected-status/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Christianity Today</a> and <a href="https://www.thegospelcoalition.org/profile/matthew-soerens/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Gospel Coalition</a>.
The Daily Wire reached out to World Relief, and they responded with a statement from Soerens saying, “Based on news reports, the alleged perpetrator in the attack in Washington, D.C., did not enter the United States as a refugee and thus would not have been subject to the re-interview process to which our press release was responding.”
However, Trump’s order for further vetting of Afghan nationals admitted under the Biden administration also applies to those who entered the U.S. via humanitarian parole under OAW. It targets all Afghan arrivals from January 20, 2021, to February 20, 2025—including the ~76,000 OAW evacuees processed post-2021 U.S. withdrawal.
Soerens said World Relief stands by their statement of condemnation, and they have not changed their position opposing additional vetting of refugees.

Sports and politics analyst Stephen A. Smith ripped into Democrats on Wednesday, saying that it was impossible not to give President Donald Trump credit for political savvy after he pardoned Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX).
Smith gave his assessment on his Sirius XM show &#8220;Straight Shooter with Stephen A.,&#8221; saying that Trump was essentially &#8220;giving the Democratic Party lessons&#8221; in how to navigate the complicated political climate in the United States.

Smith pivoted to address the situation with Cuellar directly, and noted, as Trump did, that Cuellar had been at odds with former President Joe Biden over his handling of the illegal immigration crisis at the southern border. Trump, along with a number of others, alleged that Biden&#8217;s Justice Department had targeted Cuellar largely because of that.

Smith concluded by noting that he&#8217;d long been advising Democrats that they needed to move to the center if they ever wanted to win — and argued that Trump, by extending his pardon power across party lines, had beaten them to the punch.
