Every few months, an AI system arrives that makes the last one look quaint. The newest, a framework called Mythos, has been keeping policymakers and bank executives up at night for a specific reason: it showed how a single bug in an aging piece of Office software could hand an adversary the keys to the identity systems of every federal agency at once.
Mythos rattled bank executives and policymakers because it apparently turned the discovery and exploitation of software vulnerabilities, which once took elite state hackers months of effort, into an automated commodity. There is no doubt that the flaws in our systems will be found.
The question that matters now is: how far will the damage spread once they are?
For the federal government, the answer is simply: too far. The single greatest point of failure in American cyberspace is the <a href="https://l.gourl.es/l/43ab8e50dc16705a1de14005da8729697333549f?w=anN0b2NrZXJAZGFpbHl3aXJlLmNvbQ&amp;u=11850803">procurement</a> monoculture that lawmakers in Washington spent decades creating.
Microsoft everywhere, all at once
Consider what tools support a single day of government work. Microsoft <a href="https://l.gourl.es/l/ed32eadf7f9c5e1d9c9898b959861b6e19d7dbe0?w=anN0b2NrZXJAZGFpbHl3aXJlLmNvbQ&amp;u=11850803">commands</a> an estimated 85% of federal productivity software and <a href="https://l.gourl.es/l/ff5899229fc23a10a4eb4e5b31f86fb8ba33303d?w=anN0b2NrZXJAZGFpbHl3aXJlLmNvbQ&amp;u=11850803">captures</a> roughly a third of all federal software spending. Windows runs most agency computers. Outlook carries the government&#8217;s mail. Microsoft Entra ID decides who can sign in across most departments. When one company supplies the operating system, email, identity layer, and cloud for nearly every agency, a defect in that company&#8217;s products becomes a defect in American national security.
We have already suffered the consequences of this lock-in. In 2023, the China-linked group Storm-0558 <a href="https://l.gourl.es/l/6ca702bb1f38c6310c9deea2c06cd98de1ee3cb6?w=anN0b2NrZXJAZGFpbHl3aXJlLmNvbQ&amp;u=11850803">forged</a> Microsoft authentication tokens and read the email of the commerce secretary, the U.S. ambassador to China, and a member of Congress, downloading some 60,000 messages from the State Department alone. The government&#8217;s Cyber Safety Review Board concluded the intrusion &#8220;should never have happened&#8221; and called Microsoft&#8217;s security culture inadequate. In 2025, the SharePoint &#8220;ToolShell&#8221; campaign <a href="https://l.gourl.es/l/c60beb834eb6e902a4b40a7ccd62afedf47a38b6?w=anN0b2NrZXJAZGFpbHl3aXJlLmNvbQ&amp;u=11850803">compromised</a> more than 400 organizations, including the National Nuclear Security Administration.
A rational customer, if breached this often, would diversify. The federal government has not done this because Microsoft&#8217;s licensing terms are engineered to make diversification irrational and uneconomical. According to Microsoft&#8217;s published pricing, running Windows Server on a competing cloud can <a href="https://l.gourl.es/l/6be4215b75b5743630cbcdd364c8e1615256dd03?w=anN0b2NrZXJAZGFpbHl3aXJlLmNvbQ&amp;u=11850803">cost</a> up to 400 percent more than on Azure. The Government Accountability Office found agencies forced to pay extra fees simply to use software they already own on rival infrastructure. The result is a market in which <a href="https://l.gourl.es/l/f734cc1e4644c1bfc62c89ae0e1ce344ff628fb8?w=anN0b2NrZXJAZGFpbHl3aXJlLmNvbQ&amp;u=11850803">fewer</a> than 1% of cloud customers switch providers in a given year.
Worse, security itself has become an upsell to line the company’s pockets. The State Department detected Storm-0558 only because it <a href="https://l.gourl.es/l/b6a689f59232463ffc3a10f893c778a3d0606d84?w=anN0b2NrZXJAZGFpbHl3aXJlLmNvbQ&amp;u=11850803">paid</a> for Microsoft&#8217;s most expensive license tier, which included enhanced audit logging.
Agencies on cheaper tiers had no comparable visibility into their own email. As Senators Eric Schmitt and Ron Wyden <a href="https://l.gourl.es/l/4182274b4a96594bacbc6d49688e163fc796f921?w=anN0b2NrZXJAZGFpbHl3aXJlLmNvbQ&amp;u=11850803">put it</a>, cybersecurity should be a core attribute of software, not a premium feature sold to deep-pocketed customers.
The ongoing China problem
Then there’s the China risk. For nearly a decade, Microsoft has <a href="https://l.gourl.es/l/e9839dea5bb6517a2414cbb7fe545383cfcc7463?w=anN0b2NrZXJAZGFpbHl3aXJlLmNvbQ&amp;u=11850803">used</a> engineers based in China to maintain Department of War cloud systems, with the work supervised by American &#8220;digital escorts&#8221; who lacked the expertise to evaluate it. In response, the Pentagon <a href="https://l.gourl.es/l/81c078a3d3b318a654bd95285f08c767a34ab545?w=anN0b2NrZXJAZGFpbHl3aXJlLmNvbQ&amp;u=11850803">terminated</a> the program and ordered an audit.
Even now, Microsoft&#8217;s early-warning program for software vulnerabilities includes more than a dozen Chinese companies legally <a href="https://l.gourl.es/l/6fde8f4c2216ec4b42f62e4fdee239c88c4e77fb?w=anN0b2NrZXJAZGFpbHl3aXJlLmNvbQ&amp;u=11850803">obligated</a> to share what they learn with the Chinese government, and it has been <a href="https://l.gourl.es/l/201b4a006d473db4a469383e623d2d52cb61f22c?w=anN0b2NrZXJAZGFpbHl3aXJlLmNvbQ&amp;u=11850803">suspected</a> of serving as a leak vector for Chinese state hackers at least three times. The company is even <a href="https://l.gourl.es/l/a53758446cbeb8b2863f9b26d486514e8a727d3a?w=anN0b2NrZXJAZGFpbHl3aXJlLmNvbQ&amp;u=11850803">reportedly</a> folding DeepSeek, a Chinese AI model, into Copilot Cowork, the assistant it is actively installing across the executive branch.
These are demonstrable security risks for the United States.
Toward a less binding relationship
A solution to this problem does not require punishing Microsoft for its historic success. All that needs to happen is to make the government a customer who can walk away. Federal cloud contracts can prohibit licensing terms that lead to vendor lock-in. FedRAMP should pursue multi-cloud solutions, such as the Pentagon&#8217;s Joint Warfighting Cloud Capability, to build resilience and diversity in AI procurement. And the Federal Trade Commission should see its <a href="https://l.gourl.es/l/0e10cd73469aa4a3eac0435c85e36fc2f2a8dd66?w=anN0b2NrZXJAZGFpbHl3aXJlLmNvbQ&amp;u=11850803">investigation</a> of Microsoft&#8217;s bundling and licensing practices through, and pursue remedies as necessary to curb cloud practices that threaten national security.
Every advancement in AI beyond Mythos means every software vulnerability will be found faster than the last. A government wired through one company shares these flaws, everywhere, all at once. A more diversified system, with more vendors, can contain the fallout.
The current architecture of the United States’ security was built by contract, and it can be rebuilt the same way.

A bipartisan Senate bill aimed at keeping Chinese-made vehicles and automotive technology off American roads moved one step closer to becoming law on Wednesday after clearing the Senate Commerce Committee with unanimous support.
The Connected Vehicle Security Act of 2026, sponsored by Sens. Bernie Moreno (R-OH) and Elissa Slotkin (D-MI), would prohibit the import, sale, and operation of vehicles manufactured by China and other designated foreign adversaries while also banning Chinese-developed connected vehicle technology, including software and data systems, from American roads.
Supporters argue the bill is necessary not only to protect the American auto industry from heavily subsidized Chinese competition, but also to address national security concerns posed by increasingly software-driven vehicles capable of collecting vast amounts of data on their owners.
&#8220;Chinese cars are surveillance packages on wheels, with the ability to collect on American citizens and transmit that data back to Beijing,&#8221; Slotkin <a href="https://www.slotkin.senate.gov/2026/07/22/slotkin-moreno-bill-to-protect-national-economic-security-from-chinese-vehicles-advances-unanimously/">said</a> after the bill advanced. &#8220;The Chinese Communist Party&#8217;s playbook of heavily subsidizing their product and underselling the competition puts Michigan&#8217;s auto industry and millions of American workers at risk.&#8221;
Moreno <a href="https://www.moreno.senate.gov/newsroom/press-releases/moreno-bill-cracking-down-on-chinese-vehicles-passes-out-of-committee-unanimously/">echoed</a> those concerns, arguing that Beijing&#8217;s ambitions extend beyond simply competing in the global auto market. &#8220;China&#8217;s auto industry was not built to compete, it was built to destroy American manufacturing, gut the middle class, and undermine our national security,&#8221; Moreno said. &#8220;For decades, D.C. globalists propped up Chinese businesses — now it&#8217;s time for Congress to stop this cancer before it spreads through the American auto market.&#8221;
The legislation would significantly expand upon regulations adopted during the Biden administration that effectively blocked Chinese automakers from entering the U.S. passenger vehicle market. Rather than focusing solely on connected vehicle technology, the bill broadly prohibits Chinese-manufactured vehicles and connected components throughout the production, importation, and sales process.
Moreno has argued that modern automobiles function as &#8220;roving electronic devices&#8221; capable of collecting sensitive location, infrastructure, and behavioral data while also allowing remote access to critical vehicle functions such as steering, braking, and acceleration. The bill also seeks to protect domestic manufacturers from what lawmakers describe as China&#8217;s strategy of flooding global markets with heavily subsidized vehicles sold below market prices.
The measure received backing from major American automakers, labor unions, steel manufacturers, and industry groups. General Motors praised the legislation for protecting American manufacturing while maintaining that U.S. automakers &#8220;can compete with anyone in the world when we are given a level playing field.&#8221;
Ford likewise commended the bipartisan effort &#8220;to protect the U.S. industrial base,&#8221; while Stellantis said the legislation addresses &#8220;important issues related to connected vehicle security and fair competition.&#8221;
United Auto Workers President Shawn Fain also endorsed the proposal, arguing that rebuilding American manufacturing requires preventing further offshoring of the domestic auto industry. &#8220;Our national and economic security relies on a strong U.S. auto industry,&#8221; Fain said. &#8220;We can&#8217;t keep selling out the U.S. working class to transnational corporations that have no respect for labor rights.&#8221;
The Alliance for Automotive Innovation, which represents major automakers, warned that Chinese manufacturers are already flooding overseas markets with low-cost vehicles and said the legislation sends &#8220;a clear message&#8221; that the United States will not allow the same strategy to undermine the domestic market.
The bill was not without debate during Wednesday&#8217;s committee markup. Commerce Committee Chairman Ted Cruz (R-TX) expressed concerns over a provision barring automakers with more than 15% Chinese ownership from selling vehicles in the United States, warning the language could inadvertently affect companies such as Mercedes-Benz, which has substantial Chinese investment despite maintaining significant American manufacturing operations.
Moreno responded that the ownership provisions would not take effect until 2030 and include a waiver process to address companies caught by the threshold. He emphasized that lawmakers had no intention of preventing Mercedes-Benz from selling vehicles in the United States.
An amendment to soften the ownership requirements was ultimately withdrawn, while another amendment that would have narrowed the bill&#8217;s definition of connected vehicle hardware failed on a bipartisan vote.
The legislation now awaits consideration by the full Senate.

A St. Augustine surrogate mother is fighting for custody of two surviving triplet boys after the intended father, a single man from China, failed to claim them for nearly 20 months.
One of the triplets died from complications related to respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) while in her care, and the remaining two are now in foster care as a legal battle over their future unfolds.
Kyla Simpson gave birth to the boys at UF Health Jacksonville on November 4, 2024. The intended father never appeared for the birth. She and her husband, Lincoln, brought the babies home from the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) in January 2025, breastfed them, and raised them as their own until a court order placed the children in foster care.
The case first gained national attention after children&#8217;s rights activist Katy Faust summarized it in a post on<a href="https://x.com/katy_faust/status/2077790028273766872"> X</a>. Faust wrote that a single Chinese man commissioned triplets, failed to show up at birth, later sent “two sketchy guys in a black SUV” to collect them, and then disappeared for a year and a half. One child died of RSV. The surrogate and her husband are now fighting for custody while the babies sit in foster care. “Welcome to the global baby trade,” Faust wrote.
According to<a href="https://www.firstcoastnews.com/article/news/investigations/surrogate-fights-for-parental-rights-st-augustine/77-9d74ed3f-41c9-471b-a87e-9a4648c0345c"> First Coast News</a>, Simpson signed a gestational surrogacy contract and a hospital birth plan dated October 31, 2024, that gave her physical custody and decision-making authority in the intended father’s absence. The boys remained in the NICU for roughly two months. 
The case comes as Florida implements a new law, effective July 1, that bans gestational surrogacy contracts involving citizens or residents of “foreign countries of concern,” including China. Assisted reproductive technology attorney Karen Persis, who is not involved in the case, noted that intended parents from abroad usually handle all paperwork and are present for the birth. Situations in which an intended parent simply never appears are extremely rare, she said.
Simpson said the intended father repeatedly claimed he was working on a U.S. visa and at one point asked her to help obtain the children’s travel documents. They even discussed her flying the babies to China.
In a March 21, 2025, email, the intended father said he would send a friend and an agent to pick up the children. Two men later arrived at Simpson’s home. She refused to hand the babies over to strangers, telling him she would only release them to him, the people listed in case of his death, or a representative from the agency.
Communication then broke down. In August 2025, one of the triplets died from RSV complications. “I broke down crying over him,” Simpson told First Coast News. “That was like my most bubbly baby.”
She did not hear from the intended father again until February 2026. In May, she began legal proceedings to terminate his parental rights and adopt the boys. His attorney successfully sought an emergency order requiring the children to be turned over. 
Simpson’s attorney, Ellen Kaplan, filed an emergency motion and an appeal with Florida’s Fifth District Court of Appeal on July 14 seeking to keep the children in the United States, noting that China is not a party to the Hague Abduction Convention. The court denied the emergency motion; Kaplan has requested a rehearing. A ten-minute hearing is scheduled for late July in St. Johns County.
An investigator working for Simpson said she spoke with the FBI. First Coast News could not confirm an active investigation.
The St. Augustine case also comes amid broader scrutiny of surrogacy arrangements involving Chinese clients. Separately, federal authorities are investigating alleged China-linked “rent-a-womb” operations in California, first reported by<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/exclusive-feds-investigating-alleged-china-linked-rent-a-womb-surrogacy-scandal-in-california"> The Daily Wire</a>.
Center for Bioethics and Culture executive director Kallie Fell called the pattern “a form of organized reproductive trafficking.”
Simpson and her husband are raising money for legal fees as they continue fighting to bring the boys home. “You had a year and a half to do all that you needed to do,” she said, “but to now rip them from everything they’ve known.”

Rep. Tom Suozzi (D-NY) has spent years advocating for China&#8217;s persecuted Uyghur minority while investing in Chinese companies that have faced scrutiny over alleged ties to Uyghur forced labor and surveillance.  
The Uyghurs are a predominantly Muslim, Turkic-speaking ethnic minority in northwest China whom the Chinese Communist Party has been accused of subjecting to forced labor, mass detention, and other human rights abuses.  
Suozzi’s advocacy dates back to March 2020, when he co-sponsored the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act, which was later signed into law by President Joe Biden. However, while publicly advocating for Uyghurs, Suozzi also traded shares of NIO, a Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer linked to supply chains <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/29/world/asia/china-uyghur-labor.html">associated</a> with Uyghur forced labor. According to congressional financial disclosure reports, Suozzi purchased between $1,001 and $15,000 of NIO stock on September 2, 2020, followed by another purchase of between $15,001 and $50,000 on October 5, 2020. He sold between $15,001 and $50,000 worth of NIO stock on May 20, 2021. 
Suozzi also invested in Baidu, a Chinese search engine that drew criticism after a patent described facial-recognition technology capable of identifying ethnicity, including Uyghurs. The company, when faced with allegations, claimed it has “never developed or permitted its technology to profile any ethnic group&#8221;, saying the patent does not represent &#8220;the expected implementation of the invention.” Suozzi sold between $15,001 and $50,000 of stock in 2017. 
Suozzi co-sponsored the Uyghur Genocide Accountability and Sanctions Act of 2025 and has served as co-chair of the bipartisan Congressional Uyghur Caucus since 2024. When he relaunched the caucus, he said, “What’s happening to Uyghur Muslims in Xinjiang should shock everyone’s conscience. As Co-Chair of the bipartisan Congressional Uyghur Caucus, I will continue to stand up, call out, and push back against the Chinese Communist Party for its oppression and persecution of Uyghur Muslims.” Suozzi added, “The CCP is brutally and systemically trying to destroy the Uyghur people with mass internment camps, forced labor, sexual abuse, and forced sterilization. We cannot shy away from this. We must shine a light on these atrocities.”
Since entering Congress, Suozzi has reported 671 stock transactions totaling roughly $20.9 million in disclosed trading volume. 
Suozzi is among roughly half of the members of Congress who report trading individual stocks, while the other half report no individual stock trades. Rep. Bryan Steil (R-WI) introduced the &#8220;Stop Insider Trading Act,&#8221; earlier this year. Steil&#8217;s bill would stop lawmakers from buying individual stocks during their time in office, and if they were to sell stocks they would need to provide at least seven days notice before the trade.

President Donald Trump&#8217;s explosive allegations against China Thursday night are already reverberating far beyond domestic politics.  
Speaking from the White House on Thursday, Trump accused China of &#8220;the largest compromise of election data in history,&#8221; alleging Beijing illicitly obtained information from roughly 220 million American voter files during the 2020 election cycle. The Chinese Communist Party quickly denied the charges, while China-watchers in the United States questioned if the relationship between Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping has been shattered. 
&#8220;China has all along adhered to the principle of non-interference in others&#8217; internal affairs,&#8221; Chinese Embassy spokesman Liu Chang said in a <a href="https://x.com/nickschifrin/status/2077928371883745661">statement</a>. &#8220;The U.S. election is an internal matter of the U.S. Its outcome is determined by the votes of the American people. China has never and will never interfere in the presidential elections of the U.S.&#8221;
The spat could have implications for a reportedly <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2026-07-16/trump-xi-summit-to-take-stock-of-china-commitments-greer-says">sought-after summit</a> between Trump and Xi later this year.
Among longtime China observers, Trump&#8217;s accusations immediately prompted questions about whether the administration&#8217;s broader China strategy can withstand the allegations. <a href="https://china.ucsd.edu/policy/china-forum/participants/bill-bishop.html">Bill Bishop</a>, publisher of the influential Sinocism newsletter, questioned how the allegations could be reconciled with Trump&#8217;s stated interest in maintaining a working relationship with Xi. 
&#8220;So how can he still be friends with Xi after what he says the PRC [People’s Republic of China] just did in stealing 220m voter files?&#8221; Bishop wrote on <a href="https://x.com/niubi/status/2077923828580205017">X</a>. &#8220;If any of these allegations are true how can this not be a rupture?&#8221;
China hawk Gordon Chang, author of &#8220;Plan Red&#8221; and &#8220;China Is Going To War&#8221;, argued that Beijing&#8217;s leadership would be deeply unsettled by Trump&#8217;s decision to publicly release the intelligence. &#8220;China&#8217;s leaders are almost certainly in a panic right about now,&#8221; Chang <a href="https://x.com/GordonGChang/status/2077913468405940441">wrote</a>. &#8220;Bravo, President Trump, for revealing China&#8217;s massive interference in our elections and in our society.&#8221;
&#8220;Trump just showed China who&#8217;s boss.&#8221;
Not everyone accepted Trump&#8217;s characterization of the newly released intelligence. Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA), vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, dismissed the allegations, arguing that publicly available voter registration data has long been accessible to foreign governments and private organizations alike. &#8220;The idea that somehow these countries are gathering voter files — these are publicly available. You don&#8217;t have to hack into them. You can buy them,&#8221; Warner said to <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/live-updates/trump-primetime-speech-elections-china/#post-update-0c74df4c">CBS News</a>.
Trump&#8217;s allegations also go further than previously declassified intelligence assessments produced during his first administration.
A January 2021 intelligence community assessment concluded that China &#8220;probably continued longstanding efforts to gather information on U.S. voters and public opinion&#8221; in order to better predict election outcomes and inform Beijing&#8217;s policy toward whichever administration ultimately took office. Another assessment, partially declassified in 2022, similarly found that Chinese intelligence officials analyzed voter registration data from multiple states during the 2020 election cycle.
Neither assessment concluded that China attempted to alter vote totals or directly manipulate election infrastructure.
Just one day before Trump&#8217;s announcement, a Pew Research Center survey <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2026/07/16/world/asia/pew-opinion-survey-china-united-states.html">found</a> that China is now viewed more favorably than the United States in 25 of the 36 countries surveyed — the first time in the organization&#8217;s two decades of polling that Beijing has surpassed Washington in a majority of participating nations. That shift, researchers argued, reflects both China&#8217;s expanding diplomatic and economic influence abroad and declining international perceptions of the United States.

WASHINGTON— President Donald Trump claimed Thursday night that newly declassified intelligence documents show China meddled in the 2020 presidential election, purposefully seeking to prevent his re-election.
From the White House East Room, Trump announced the release of documents that he said detail a years-long Chinese effort to interfere in the 2020 election, as well as an alleged cover-up by intelligence agencies.
&#8220;Newly declassified documents show that over a period of years starting during the 2020 election cycle, the People’s Republic of China carried out what is believed to be the largest compromise of election data in history — resulting in China’s illicit acquisition of 220 million U.S. voter files,&#8221; the president said.
&#8220;That information includes names, addresses, phone numbers, political party preferences, and other sensitive data that would be needed to register to vote, and engage in other nefarious activities,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;This data loss presents an unprecedented election security nightmare. The intelligence even shows that China assigned a data exploitation unit specifically to this new project.&#8221;
Trump said U.S. intelligence agencies worked to &#8220;actively suppress and downplay information about the extent of China’s sinister election meddling—covering it up from both the President and the American People.&#8221;

&#8220;U.S. spy agencies began learning about the compromise of voter registration files in 2020, when they discovered that tens of millions of voters’ data in 18 states had been bought, stolen, or hacked by China,&#8221; Trump said. &#8220;Yet those responsible for sounding the alarm instead kept the information hidden. They did not disclose it to me as president, and to the best of our knowledge, they did not inform Congress.&#8221;
Trump bashed members of the intelligence community for allegedly keeping the information hidden, pointing out that he was repeatedly told, “This is the most secure election in the history of our country.”
&#8220;The cover-up of this colossal security breach is even more disturbing in light of additional information showing that China engaged in other election-related activities to undermine my first administration and our 2020 campaign,&#8221; he added. &#8220;They did not want Donald Trump to win, and for good reason.&#8221;
According to Trump, the new documents show that the CIA explicitly stated that in mid-2018, the Chinese Communist Party had adopted a policy to leverage any domestic and foreign elements opposed to Trump in an effort to reduce his support, force his resignation, or prevent his re-election.
&#8220;Also in mid-2018,&#8221; Trump said, quoting the newly released documents, &#8220;China was working to influence the results of the U.S. mid-term elections, and later, the results of the 2020 Presidential Elections. Separately, in mid-2019, the Chinese Government’s strategy against the United States was focused on undermining domestic confidence in the U.S. president.”
Strategies included using Chinese contracts with major U.S. companies to influence American business leaders to turn against him, Trump said. He further claimed the Chinese government sought to identify American journalists who were already covering him negatively and pay them &#8220;large sums of money&#8221; to write even more negative stories. It is unclear if such payments occurred.
He quoted the intelligence documents as stating: &#8220;The Chinese government wanted the U.S. president to lose the next election.”

&#8220;And the reason they wanted me to lose is because they knew I was wise to them, charged them billions of dollars’ worth of tariffs, and built the strongest military anywhere in the world,&#8221; the president added. &#8220;These are exact quotes from CIA reporting—the name of the person doing the quote is under review.&#8221;
&#8220;But it gets even worse,&#8221; he added. &#8220;Raw intelligence obtained by the FBI in 2020, yet buried by rogue bureaucrats, stated that China’s activities even included an attempt to manufacture illegal ballots for Joe Biden. Documents show that during this period, dozens of significant CIA and NSA reports about China’s election targeting were kept out of the Presidential Daily Briefing.&#8221;
Trump described an email between intelligence analysts in which they allegedly admitted they had &#8220;deliberately massaged&#8221; the Presidential Daily Briefing email to withhold information about Chinese activities related to the election. He also cited another official inside the FBI who allegedly wrote that she was running a &#8220;shadow government&#8221; to keep intelligence about China&#8217;s election meddling from the public.
&#8220;Other officials who witnessed such efforts perceived the motivations to be blatantly political,&#8221; the president said. &#8220;Recently, we found significant numbers of burn bags, information given by President Barack Hussein Obama to be burned. These bags were supposed to be incinerated, but it never happened. We believe this was not done purposely, but rather through incompetence.&#8221;
Calling the findings &#8220;stunning,&#8221; Trump called on the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the Justice Department, the FBI, and the CIA to investigate how and why this &#8220;crucial information was hidden&#8221; and to prosecute those involved in the alleged cover-up.

More satellite images have been captured showing China’s scheme to bomb American ships, planes, and potential bases by testing weaponry on exact replicas of them.
In June 2026, images taken the month prior were released to the United States, showing a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/china-builds-replica-u-s-destroyer-to-test-missiles-on?author=Gus+Wilson&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=30&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=China+Builds+Replica+U.S.+Destroyer+To+Test+Missiles+On">replica</a> of a U.S. Navy Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer in the Taklamakan Desert that was surrounded by debris from previous missile testing. The Telegraph revealed additional <a href="https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2026/07/15/revealed-chinas-plan-to-bomb-us-warships/">photos</a> of the same site in a Wednesday report. 
Chinese President Xi Jinping has stated that he wants to “reunify” Taiwan and China — a plan which has broadly been interpreted as more of an annexation than a reunification — causing extreme tensions between the two. 
In preparation for the United States potentially sending naval support, China has been building and destroying replicas of American warships for years. Hidden behind mountains in a remote stretch of the desert, the site holds debris from tests dating back to 2021, along with replicas ready to serve as targets
A 23-mile railway was made to recreate how ships move across the ocean. The copies of the U.S. warships are placed onto railcars and moved across the tracks for training purposes to simulate a moving target for guns and missiles. Currently, the destroyed target on the tracks is the same one that has been publicly known for five years.
Surrounding the tracks are multiple other mock-ups of American warships, including at least two replicas of the USS Gerald R. Ford and the U.S. Navy Arleigh Burke-class destroyer that was revealed to the public last month.
In the same region of the desert, U.S. aircraft and runways were built for simulated attacks on other types of American weaponry. Craters surrounded the testing grounds. The runway has 20 planes split into two separate groups. 
The first group features two rows of F-22 model jets, four of which have already been destroyed. The second group is made up of four F-16 planes and six F-35s — the most advanced stealth aircraft in the world and currently in use by the U.S. Air Force. While the U.S. has yet to sell any of those specific models to Taiwan, it seems Xi still wants testing done on the plane.
Satellite images also uncovered a recreation of Yokosuka Naval Base, the largest American naval base, that would likely be involved in a potential conflict between Taiwan and China. The naval base, located on the eastern coast of Japan, is home to ten of the Arleigh Burke ships.
In addition to the Chinese replicating numerous targets that resemble an array of American maritime assets, they have also created Taiwanese bases and political buildings to practice tactics ahead of a potential invasion.

President Donald Trump reignited his campaign to claim Greenland for America, telling NATO allies gathered in Turkey on Wednesday that the frozen island matters far more to Washington than it does to Copenhagen.
Trump argued that the U.S. essentially inherited responsibility for Greenland during World War II, after Nazi Germany overran Denmark in a single day and the Danes turned to America for protection of the territory. He said Washington&#8217;s decision to hand it back after the war was a mistake — one he suggested should be corrected, framing American control of the island as a matter of global security rather than just U.S. interest.
Trump’s remarks came just after Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen <a href="https://www.euronews.com/my-europe/2026/07/08/greenland-is-not-for-sale-denmarks-frederiksen-reminds-trump">made clear</a> her government has no intention of letting Greenland go. Speaking at the same summit, she insisted Greenland remains off the table entirely and said Copenhagen expects its NATO allies to honor Greenlanders&#8217; right to choose their own future and to respect Denmark&#8217;s sovereignty. Pressed on whether Denmark would fight to protect the island if attacked, Frederiksen said her country stands ready to defend every part of NATO territory, including its own.
Trump&#8217;s interest in Greenland isn&#8217;t new, and the reasons behind it are hard to dismiss. The Arctic territory sits atop what may be the largest reserves of rare earth minerals outside China — materials critical to everything from fighter jets to smartphones. With Beijing controlling the overwhelming share of global rare earth mining and refining, and holding a massive lead in related patents, Western nations have spent years searching for alternative sources.
Greenland&#8217;s military value is just as significant. In 2018, the Trump administration warned Denmark not to allow China, which wanted to build three airports in Greenland, to do so. China could potentially use the airports for warplanes.
Pituffik Space Base, formerly Thule Air Base, the northernmost U.S. installation, houses a radar system tied to America&#8217;s missile early-warning network and supports Space Command and NORAD operations — all made possible under a decades-old defense pact between Washington and Copenhagen. Its location, just hours by air from major American cities, makes it a critical piece of homeland defense, especially as melting Arctic ice opens new shipping lanes and draws growing interest from both China and Russia.
Washington has flirted with the idea of owning Greenland before — the Truman administration reportedly floated a $100 million offer in 1946, only to be rebuffed by Denmark.
Nearly eight decades later, the question is back on the table, this time with far higher stakes.

A Christian pastor imprisoned for months reunited with his family after the Chinese Communist Party released him following pressure from President Donald Trump. 
Pastor Mingri “Ezra” Jin, the leader of one of the largest underground church networks in China, landed in the United States on the Fourth of July and was greeted by his family. Trump pushed Chinese President Xi Jinping to release Jin during his trip to China in May. 
&#8220;We truly witnessed a miracle and we are feeling so overwhelmed with joy. We thank God for this tremendous miracle,” Jin’s family said in a statement. “We also thank President Trump and his administration for their tremendous leadership.”
Jin and a number of other church leaders connected to Zion Church, an independent Protestant church, were rounded up and thrown into a detention center in southern China in October 2025. In January 2026, more Christians associated with Early Rain Covenant Church, an evangelical Presbyterian church, were targeted by the CCP. 
Jin was accused of disseminating illegal information online. 
Grace Jin Drexel, who has fought for months to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/daughter-of-imprisoned-chinese-pastor-releases-tearful-christmas-message-to-father?utm_source=chatgpt.com">raise awareness</a> about her father’s case, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/daughter-of-detained-pastor-warns-of-a-coming-wave-of-christian-persecution-in-communist-china">previously told</a> The Daily Wire her father became a Christian after the 1989 Tiananmen Square Massacre.
“When the country betrayed them in such a brutal way, it really was shocking, and they lost a sense of direction for my dad,” Grace said. “He then found the sense of purpose and direction in Christianity, and he turned to Christ, and he realized that was the firm foundation that he needed in order to build his life upon.”
In 2007, Jin started Zion after years of theological training in the United States. By 2018, the government had cracked down on Zion by closing its physical location and freezing the church’s assets. 
During his trip to China, Trump pressed Xi on the imprisonment of Jin and Hong Kong businessman Jimmy Lai. 
“I think he’s giving very serious consideration to the pastor,” Trump said after the trip. “He said he’s giving very serious consideration to that.” 
Lawmakers praised Trump for advocating for Jin’s release. 
“I am profoundly grateful that Pastor Ezra Jin has been released and reunited with his family. I especially thank President Trump for personally raising Pastor Jin’s case with CCP General Secretary Xi Jinping and for ensuring that U.S. diplomats remained committed in pressing for his freedom,” said Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ), the co-chair of Congressional-Executive Commission on China.

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump&#8217;s administration is ramping up its crackdown on birth tourism in the United States.
Colin McDonald, who leads the newly formed Fraud Division at the Department of Justice, informed employees on Tuesday that the DOJ will target those who &#8220;exploit our immigration system and violate criminal law,&#8221; according to a memorandum on &#8220;fraudulent birth tourism schemes&#8221; obtained by The Daily Wire.
&#8220;I am directing all United States Attorneys and the Criminal Division to work with the Department of Homeland Security to prioritize the investigation and prosecution of birth tourism schemes,&#8221; McDonald ordered.
The memo comes on the heels of a momentous Supreme Court decision that protects the practice of “birth tourism,” often used by wealthy Chinese nationals to travel to the United States to give birth to their children.
The DOJ memo lays out how the American citizenship system is exploited every year by &#8220;thousands of foreigners&#8221; who come to the United States under &#8220;false pretenses to give birth and secure citizenship for their child.&#8221;
McDonald cites an example from 2024, in which Michael Wei Yueh Liu and Jing Dong, a husband and wife, were sentenced to 41 months in prison for operating a birth tourism scheme using a business called &#8220;USA Happy Baby Inc.&#8221;

That business charged Chinese clients &#8220;tens of thousands of dollars&#8221; for helping women give birth in the United States.
&#8220;Liu and Dong assisted customers with obtaining fraudulent visas to enter the United States, and provided customs entry guidance, housing, and transportation in the United States,&#8221; McDonald explained. &#8220;As part of the scheme, Liu and Dong coached their customers on how to hide their pregnancies from immigration authorities.&#8221;
Another 2022 scheme involved Ibrahim Aksakal, who was sentenced to 27 months in prison for &#8220;conspiring to commit health care and wire fraud&#8221; related to a birth tourism scheme that he operated in New York. He was also ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $1,039,723.63, and forfeiture in the amount of $397,500.
&#8220;Aksakal and his co-conspirators advertised a birth tourism scheme on two Turkish-language social media pages,&#8221; the memo states. &#8220;As part of the scheme, Aksakal and his co-conspirators instructed the women to conceal their pregnancies from immigration authorities.&#8221;
A third scheme, this one in 2020, involved a fugitive named Chao &#8220;Edwin&#8221; Chen who was sentenced to 37 months in prison for his role in a &#8220;large-scale birth tourism scheme.&#8221;
This business went under the name &#8220;You Win USA&#8221; and advertised that it had a 100-person team in China and the United States and had served more than 500 Chinese birth-tourism customers, the memo stated.
&#8220;Chen, who helped coach his customers to misrepresent the true 
intentions of their visits to United States at ports of entry, charged each customer between $40,000 to $80,000,&#8221; McDonald&#8217;s memo explained. &#8220;Chen received $3 million in international wire transfers from China in just two years.&#8221;
DOJ prosecutes many of these cases as visa fraud under 18 USC § 1546, but McDonald&#8217;s memo encourages prosecutors to consider whether other federal statutes have been violated.
That could include &#8220;Wire Fraud and Conspiracy to Commit Wire Fraud,&#8221; &#8220;Money Laundering and Conspiracy to Commit Money Laundering,&#8221; &#8220;Unlawful Use of Means of Identification,&#8221; &#8220;Aggravated Identity Theft,&#8221; and &#8220;Conspiracy to Commit Health Care Fraud.&#8221;
President Trump called on Congress to take legislative action on Tuesday in light of the Supreme Court&#8217;s decision on birthright citizenship.
“The Supreme Court upheld Birthright Citizenship, which is too bad for our Country, but we can easily make it up in Congress through Legislation, with the support of the President, that has now been determined during this process,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social. “No long and unwieldy Constitutional Amendment is necessary! Congress should start TODAY to work on ending expensive and unfair to our Country, Birthright Citizenship. They will have my Complete and Total Support!”
He added in a post later on Tuesday: “I would like to congratulate President Xi, and the Great Country of China, on their massive Birthright Citizenship WIN!”

Chinese businessman, right-wing media mogul, and real estate tycoon Miles Guo has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for defrauding his followers of more than $1 billion. 
Guo, who also used the names “Ho Wan Kwok,” “Guo Wengui,” “Brother Seven,” “The Principal,” and “Boss,” was convicted of racketeering, securities fraud, money laundering, and defrauding donors and investors.
Guo’s federal judge, Analisa Torres, said on Monday that Guo had “preyed on people seeking to bring democracy to China,” causing them “substantial financial and emotional harm.”
His fraud schemes began when he lured donors into his Rule of Law Foundation and Rule of Law Society by falsely claiming he was contributing the first $100 million himself. He also released stock in his media venture, GTV, which gained scrutiny from the Securities and Exchange Commission. 
Guo was also involved in a scheme in which victims were told they could lend money to networks of Guo’s supporters and receive GTV stock and interest, a venture that allegedly netted him $100 million. He also sold $250 million in memberships to G|CLUBS, which also promised GTV stock but provided few tangible benefits.
Another fraud scheme Guo was convicted of was launching a cryptocurrency ecosystem called “Himalaya Exchange,” where people could trade “H Coin” and “H Dollar.” The court proceedings revealed that the cryptocurrencies were not based on a blockchain at all but merely numbers manipulated on an internal spreadsheet.
With the money he took from Americans and foreign investors, Guo reportedly bought estates in New Jersey and Connecticut, a $4.4 million Bugatti supercar, a $1 million Lamborghini, and a $37 million yacht, the Associated Press <a href="https://apnews.com/article/guo-wengui-chinese-businessman-fraud-9b8329c7ab8012f2dfa7c48c55fc5620">reported</a>.
“After immigrating to this country, rather than being satisfied with the many legitimate opportunities afforded to him, Guo exploited the trust that thousands had placed in him for his own greed,” U.S. Attorney Sean S. Buckley <a href="https://www.justice.gov/usao-sdny/pr/miles-guo-sentenced-30-years-prison-leading-billion-dollar-fraud">said</a> in a statement. “This sentence shows that fame and wealth do not place you above the law, and that fraudsters who victimize families to enrich themselves will be met with significant consequences.”
Federal prosecutors likened the scale of Guo’s schemes to that of the famous fraudster Bernie Madoff.
Guo went from poverty to an estimated net worth of $2.6 billion by investing in real estate during the construction boom leading up to the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He was ranked as China’s 74th richest man and owned a sprawling $230 million lakeside courtyard in Beijing, <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2023/03/30/us/guo-wengui-china.html">according</a> to The New York Times.
Guo secured majority control of a securities business by buying a stake in a state-owned company through Chinese senior intelligence official Ma Jian. However, when a Chinese campaign aimed at stamping out waste, fraud, and abuse jailed Ma, Guo realized he was at risk and fled China in 2015.
During his time in the United States, Guo made friends and connections in the American Right. He joined President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago golf club. He also partnered with Trump supporter Steve Bannon to launch anti-CCP ventures such as GTV Media and declared the New Federal State of China to be the self-proclaimed sovereign government of China. Guo also promoted Bannon’s podcast on his Chinese-language media network.
Guo’s network was the first to expose the Hunter Biden laptop scandal, the New York Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2026/06/29/us/guo-wengui-sentencing.html?unlocked_article_code=1.uFA.adnJ.ZGsOD1LAX7dG&amp;amp;smid=url-share">reported</a>. He also released a No. 1 iTunes hit song, “Take Down the CCP.”
Beijing welcomed the conviction of Guo.
&#8220;Guo Wengui is a fugitive wanted under an Interpol Red Notice issued at the request of the Chinese government,&#8221; Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun <a href="https://www.newsweek.com/guo-wengui-beijing-jailing-ccp-critic-trump-links-12140888">said</a> in a press briefing Tuesday.
Throughout the case, Guo has maintained his innocence, stating that he fled to the United States not to escape a fraud conviction but to “destroy the CCP,” according to an AP news <a href="https://apnews.com/article/guo-wengui-chinese-businessman-fraud-3deb06c17c5640a5d63f0e2c72286ac8">report</a>. 
Guo has insisted that his business dealings have harmed no one. His attorneys have stated that the conviction is part of the CCP’s “grand, pervasive, and life-threatening” pursuit of him and stated that Guo’s conviction would merely “embolden further efforts to eliminate Chinese dissidents from public life.”
Judge Torres said Guo’s assets will be liquidated, with the proceeds used to reimburse hundreds of his victims.

Chinese Billionaire Who Infiltrated American Politics Sentenced For Fraud

The Department of Justice has confirmed to The Daily Wire that it has launched a grand jury investigation into leftist megadonor Neville Roy Singham, who has been accused of promoting Chinese Communist Party interests.
A federal grand jury in Manhattan issued subpoenas on behalf of an investigation led by U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton and authorized by Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, Fox News <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/doj-launches-grand-jury-probe-marxist-mogul-neville-roy-singhams-funding-leftist-groups">reported</a> on Monday. The subpoenas reportedly seek financial records tied to Singham and his network. Singham recently funneled $285 million from his accounts in China to Left-wing organizations in the United States through the Goldman Sachs&#8217; philanthropic entity, the GS Donor Advised Philanthropy Fund for Wealth Management.
Prosecutors are reportedly examining whether Singham engaged in wire fraud, money laundering, or any other financial crimes, or acted as an unregistered foreign agent on behalf of China. The investigation is part of the Trump administration’s efforts to crack down on fraud in nonprofits, political organizations, and government-backed entities. 
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has also met with Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon to discuss Singham and the recent investigation, according to the outlet. Bessent allegedly warned the bank that they could also be investigated for their past connections with the CCP and their account with Singham.
Singham is connected to organizations such as the People’s Forum, Party for Socialism and Liberation, and Code Pink. His wife, Jodie Evans, is a leftist activist who co-founded the radical anti-war organization Code Pink. Lawmakers have also alleged that Singham was affiliated with the Maku Group, a CCP-backed propaganda organization.
Singham has been a Communist ever since his youth, when he took membership in the League of Revolutionary Black Workers, a Mao-influenced group based in Detroit, Michigan, the New Lines Magazine <a href="https://newlinesmag.com/reportage/the-big-business-of-uyghur-genocide-denial/">reported</a>.
Singham used America’s capitalist system to gain his wealth. After college at Howard University, Singham founded Thoughtworks, a consulting and software firm, which he sold to a private equity firm in 2017 for $785 million.
In a viral clip <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/video/6391402983112">posted</a> by Fox News Digital, Singham argued to Chinese officials that America and Britain were not the heroes in World War II.
“This fascist lie that the West says that there is a battle between fascism, democracy and communism. They make a fake argument that there are three systems,” Singham stated. “In fact, fascism is actually a face of capitalism and imperialism, as is colonialism. These are three faces of a system that quite now is getting very, very dangerous for us.”
Singham also argued that the Soviet Union and China were the real heroes of WWII.
OpenSecrets has <a href="https://www.opensecrets.org/search?q=neville+singham&amp;type=donors">tracked</a> $70,000 of direct funding from Singham, including $18,000 to Democratic Representative Pramila Jayapal of Washington, $8,400 to then-Democratic Representative Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii, and $7,500 to the Green Party, along with funding to the campaigns of former President Barack Obama and Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT).
