“The Hangover” actor Zach Galifianakis thinks Hollywood celebrities should butt out of making political endorsements.
The 54-year-old made his remarks just after the star-studded Democratic National Convention, which took place in Chicago last week. Celebrity appearances included Kerry Washington, Tony Goldwyn, Eva Longoria, Ben Stiller, Octavia Spencer, Uzo Aduba, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and Mindy Kaling.
There were also musical performances by John Legend, Patti LaBelle, Stevie Wonder, The Chicks, Mickey Guyton, Jason Isbell, and Lil Jon. Rumors were buzzing that Beyoncé would make a surprise appearance, but in the end, it was Pink who showed up as the main musical guest, accompanied by her 13-year-old daughter, Willow.

“As a small-town guy from North Carolina … I do wish the DNC would step back from the celebrities a little bit,” Galifianakis told Variety at the “Only Murders in the Building” Season 4 premiere event.
“It works to a point, but they have to win over rural America,” the actor continued. “Hollywood thinks it’s so important and that’s a problem. Actors are people too, and they’re citizens too, but I’m more on the small-town side of that than I am on the Hollywood side of that. That’s just me.”
The interviewer also spoke with several other “Only Murders” stars on the red carpet. Kumail Nanjiani said he plans on helping register people to vote and admitted to being energized now that the Democrats pushed out Biden in favor of Harris.
“It’s really unbelievable how I was feeling a month and a half ago and how I’m feeling now. It’s really inspiring … This has given me faith in humanity,” he told the outlet. “I just feel lighter and happier. I am going to say I am fighting to stay hopeful and not get too optimistic or confident. There’s still a lot of work to do.”

Actor Steve Martin said he was “too nervous” to watch the DNC because he didn’t want any of them to “make a mistake.”
Fellow co-stars Selena Gomez and Martin Short both agreed they would have rather watched the final day of the DNC than attend the “Only Murders” premiere event.
