President Donald Trump ripped the Federal Reserve after it hiked its benchmark interest rate for the first time in more than three years—but Trump spared Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh. 
“Interest rates in the United States should be 1%, or less, because we are the best credit in the world—by far,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Wednesday. “Lower the interest rates for the United States of America, and fast!” 
The Federal Reserve voted unanimously to raise its target rate by 25 basis points, lifting it to a range of 3.75%-4.0%. The Fed said inflation remained elevated and that the increase would support a faster return to its 2% target.
&#8220;The plain fact is that inflation is too high and had been for too long,&#8221; Warsh said after the vote.
Before boarding Air Force One on Wednesday, Trump said he and Warsh remained aligned despite the chairman&#8217;s vote to raise rates.
“I’m aligned with Kevin,” he <a href="https://x.com/EricLDaugh/status/2100353921613025322">said</a>. “He&#8217;s got a very tough board&#8230;The board is hostile and political.” 
Trump said he had told Warsh to vote with the rest of the board because his opposition would not have changed the outcome.
“I talked to Kevin, and I said, you might as well vote with the Board because it&#8217;s not gonna matter,” Trump said.
Trump continues to be complimentary of Warsh, whom he described as “central casting” when announcing his nomination. At the time, Trump said Warsh could become the best chairman in Federal Reserve history.
“I have known Kevin for a long period of time, and have no doubt that he will go down as one of the great Fed Chairmen, maybe the best,” Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-names-next-fed-chair-pick-he-will-never-let-you-down?topStoryPosition=undefined&amp;author=Leif+Le+Mahieu&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=4&amp;row=1&amp;rowHeadline=Top+Stories&amp;rowType=Top+Stories&amp;title=Trump+Names+Next+Fed+Chair+Pick%3A+%E2%80%98He+Will+Never+Let+You+Down%E2%80%99">said</a>. “On top of everything else, he is ‘central casting,’ and he will never let you down.”
Trump was similarly complimentary when he nominated Jerome Powell to lead the Fed in 2017, but he later attacked Powell over interest rates. Trump <a href="https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/frontline/article/trump-jerome-powell-federal-reserve-pressure-interest-rates/">called</a> Powell “a real dummy” and a “stupid man” and argued that he was “costing our country a fortune.”
His rhetoric was dramatically different when he first appointed Powell.
Powell is “strong, he&#8217;s committed, he&#8217;s smart,” Trump <a href="https://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/documents/remarks-the-nomination-jerome-h-powell-be-chairman-the-board-governors-the-federal-reserve">said</a> at the time. “And if he is confirmed by the Senate, Jay will put his considerable talents and experience to work leading our Nation&#8217;s independent central bank.”
While Trump’s attitude toward Warsh didn’t change Wednesday, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) appeared to soften her tone toward the Fed chairman. 
During Warsh’s confirmation process, Warren <a href="https://x.com/Breaking911/status/2046605384513704081">called</a> him a “sock puppet” for Trump, arguing that Warsh would not be willing to stand up to the president and would instead do his bidding.
On Wednesday, however, Warsh took an action that Warren <a href="https://edition.cnn.com/2026/09/16/business/live-news/federal-reserve-interest-rate-september?ref=biztoc.com">said</a> signaled to Wall Street that “he is committed to bringing inflation under control.” But Warren <a href="https://edition.cnn.com/2026/09/16/business/live-news/federal-reserve-interest-rate-september?ref=biztoc.com">stopped</a> well short of fully embracing the chairman.
“It takes a long time, more than one action, to rebuild a reputation,” she said.

A federal judge referred a leftist prosecutor backed by billionaire George Soros to the Justice Department for investigation. 
U.S. District Judge Paul Diamond said Tuesday that Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner may have broken the law in his handling of a convicted murderer’s appeal to get out of prison. Diamond said credible evidence showed that Krasner may have made false declarations under oath, committed perjury, obstructed justice, and engaged in a conspiracy. 
“The evidence before me and the facts I have found reveal more than a disabling conflict,” Diamond <a href="https://s3.documentcloud.org/documents/28651527/diamond-memorandum.pdf">said</a>. “I have thus reluctantly concluded that Philadelphia’s highest law enforcement official and one of his top assistants may have violated the law.”
The referral to the U.S. Attorney’s Office comes over a legal saga revolving around an effort by Dennis Johnson to argue that he was wrongfully imprisoned for murder. Johnson was convicted in 2009 of killing Kenyatta Smith during an armed robbery. 
In November 2022, Krasner’s office argued in a concession brief that Johnson was entitled to appeal his case because his lawyer didn’t object to certain evidence during the initial trial. That brief was withdrawn in June 2026 after the District Attorney’s Office found “material misstatements.”
Those briefs triggered a complex back-and-forth with Diamond and the state attorney general’s office, which argued Krasner and his office should be disqualified from the case. Diamond agreed that Krasner should be disqualified, as well as Matthew Stiegler, an assistant district attorney. 
Diamond said that he found Stiegler’s testimony to be “often contradictory, evasive, or outright dishonest.”
The judge added that Stiegler instructed former Assistant District Attorney Jaclyn Mason to file the concession brief after meetings with the Innocence Project and the Defenders Association. According to evidence presented to Diamond, Stiegler told Mason, who had no criminal litigation experience, to rubber-stamp the arguments used by Johnson and the Innocence Project. 
“Matt’s already made the assessment and the decision here that this is going to be a case that should be conceded,” Mason reportedly said. Stiegler also told Mason, “if it’s good enough for the Innocence Project, it’s good enough for me,” according to court records. 
“Stiegler thus did not instruct Mason to do any independent investigation because it had already been done by Johnson’s counsel,” Diamond said. “Stiegler and Mason thus never discussed the need to interview witnesses, and he did not suggest that she review any record material.”
Diamond said Stiegler appointed Mason because of her inexperience so that “she would not question his actions or order.”
In the resulting dispute over the concession brief, Diamond said that Krasner and Stiegler attempted to “sacrifice” Mason to protect themselves. 
After facing pressure to move the case out of his office and to the state attorney general, people in Krasner’s office said that he “went on a long, extended rant yet again about how he hated” the attorney general and how everyone in the office was “Nazis.” 
“We need to protect the office. We need somebody in the room so that they can control the proceedings,” Krasner reportedly said, according to testimony. 
Krasner, who received more than $1.7 million in Soros-linked money during his first run for the position in 2017, disputed Diamond’s ruling. 
&#8220;I respectfully and vigorously disagree with the court’s findings of fact and conclusions of law,&#8221; he said. &#8220;I look forward to appealing to the higher court as soon as the law allows. This remains a pending matter, which limits for now my and my office’s ability to respond in the media.&#8221;

The Federal Reserve unanimously raised its benchmark interest rate by a quarter percentage point Wednesday, rebuffing President Donald Trump&#8217;s calls for lower borrowing costs.
The Federal Open Market Committee lifted the target range for the federal funds rate from 3.5%-3.75% to 3.75%-4.0%. It was the central bank&#8217;s first rate increase in more than three years, going against Trump&#8217;s calls to lower interest rates.
“Lower the interest rates,” Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/jobs-report-smashes-expectations-see-the-numbers">said</a>. “Because the U.S.A. is a much stronger credit than it was just a short time ago.” 
Trump says the United States&#8217; strength should translate into lower borrowing costs. The Fed, however, is confronting inflation that has remained above its 2% objective for more than five years. 
Year-over-year inflation held steady at 3.4% during the 12 months ending in August, as monthly price growth accelerated on higher energy costs, according to data the Bureau of Labor Statistics released last week. The higher numbers were driven primarily by higher energy costs as oil prices rose amid rising tensions in the Middle East. 
Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh told Congress in July that policymakers would remain focused on bringing inflation under control.
 “The members of our committee have no tolerance for persistently elevated inflation,&#8221; Warsh said. &#8220;And we share a resolute commitment to restoring price stability.” 
Warsh explained recent inflation is hurting the American people. 
&#8220;It has been a tax on the American people and businesses. We plan on getting rid of that tax,” he said. “That means we need a regime change in policy, and we need new consideration of practices, some of which have been working, some of which haven’t.”
President Trump has previously blamed other Federal Reserve officials rather than Warsh for policy decisions in which he disagreed.
&#8220;They have a board and Kevin’s fantastic, but he’s got a board and the board members are very political, I would say,” Trump said when asked about the central bank in July. “I know what he wants to do, but you need the consent of some people that have, perhaps, bad intentions.&#8221;
Days after Trump’s comments, Warsh praised his colleagues and emphasized unity.
&#8220;I am truly lucky to work with colleagues so capable and mission-focused and so determined like I am, to sharpen the performance of the Federal Reserve,” he said. 
“Not one of my FOMC colleagues is under any illusion. We have begun a new chapter and we understand that the 5+ years of inflation above target cannot be cured in 9 weeks or by a single month of modest price decreases.&#8221;

The irony of AOC playing the free speech martyr is rich, given her own dubious track record on censorship. This is, after all, the same politician who <a href="https://www.theblaze.com/news/aoc-fox-news-incitement-violence">openly advocated</a> for federal crackdowns on broadcast outlets, once demanding regulators step in to muzzle news networks like Fox News over alleged &#8220;incitement.&#8221;
She stated in 2023, &#8220;I believe that when it comes to broadcast television, like Fox News, these are subject to federal law [and] federal regulation in terms of what&#8217;s allowed on air and what isn&#8217;t,” adding that &#8220;when you look at” what the hosts on Fox News did, “it is very, very clearly incitement of violence. While private platform moderation on social media or private stadium bookings earn her wrath when it hurts her political allies, she has zero issue calling for the heavy hand of the federal government to police speech she dislikes.

A <a href="https://www.staopen.org/staffandleadership">lesbian minister</a> at James Talarico’s longtime Austin church believes the Democrat is playing a political game in an attempt to flip Texas blue as he races to recast his record on transgender issues and his declaration that “God is non-binary,” according to undercover footage obtained by The Daily Wire.
Rev. Babs Miller, minister to the parish at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, was caught making stunning admissions about Talarico’s political makeover as he seeks to win over conservative-minded Texas moderates. The newfound shift includes striking new positions, including support for a national ban on gender-transition surgeries for minors and opposition to transgender athletes competing in girls’ sports when he believes it threatens safety or fairness.
When an undercover journalist told Miller that Republicans were attacking Talarico over his “God is non-binary” comment, she responded, “Duh,” agreeing with the theological assertion before shedding light on his internal political strategy.
“He’s getting some advice that I don’t think he should be following,” Miller said.
Miller then suggested Talarico would revert to his embrace of the LGBT movement&#8217;s most extreme elements if he wins the race against Texas Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton.
“I can guarantee you that once he gets elected, he’ll change his tune back to where he was,” she said.
When the undercover journalist suggested Talarico had to “play this game,” Miller shook her head and agreed.
“That’s what his campaign has convinced him of,” Miller said. “The Democratic Party is backing off on their stances on trans and all of this, and so his staff is encouraging him to kind of do the same thing, just for the next 50 weeks, whatever days.”
“I think it’s bad advice personally, but if it helps him win, okay&#8230;” an exasperated Miller added.
Talarico has long attended St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Austin, where he has delivered politically charged sermons, including one declaring &#8220;God is not a Christian.&#8221; Miller’s<a href="https://www.staopen.org/staffandleadership"> church bio</a> says she has been part of the St. Andrew’s community since the mid-1990s and was ordained there in 2014 as an “out” lesbian chaplain. She retired shortly before the COVID-19 pandemic but returned in 2022.

“I would say right now he’s trying to target a wider net, which unfortunately means being more palatable to Republicans here in Texas,” Miranda, a manager with Texas Together and the Texas Democratic Party, said. “He really needs to win those Texans over.”
The footage was published after Talarico appeared on <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/talarico-missed-mark-backtracks-controversial-woke-statements">FOX News</a> to whitewash his most extreme past positions as Republicans flood the airwaves with attacks seeking to define him as a radical in a culturally conservative state.
&#8220;Every sport has to be safe and fair. As a former public school teacher, I care a lot about our student athletes. And so, I will oppose trans athletes playing in girls’ sports if it risks safety or fairness,&#8221; Talarico told FOX.
In 2021, however, Talarico voted against Senate Bill 29 while serving on the Texas House Public Education Committee. The bill sought to require public-school athletes to compete according to the biological sex listed on their birth certificates.
During the interview, Talarico also pledged to “absolutely” support a national ban on gender-transition surgeries for minors. In reality, Talarico voted against Senate Bill 14, the 2023 Texas legislation restricting sex-change surgeries for minors. 
One <a href="https://x.com/AdImpact_Pol/status/2098868801756422329?s=20">GOP-sponsored ad</a> is capitalizing on Talarico&#8217;s record on the toxic issue, running back a famous 2024-style attack to cast him as a &#8220;radical liberal&#8221; who is for &#8220;they/them&#8221; – &#8220;not you.&#8221;
Beyond his voting record, Talarico’s church in question features books containing sexually explicit content and transgender themes, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/this-book-is-gay-read-the-sexually-explicit-volumes-james-talaricos-church-gives-kids?author=Leif+Le+Mahieu&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=%E2%80%98God+Is+Queer%E2%80%99%3A+See+The+Sexually+Explicit+Books+James+Talarico%E2%80%99s+Church+Gives+Kids">The Daily Wire</a> previously reported. The latest footage exposes growing tensions over Talarico’s political makeover, with his longtime church and Democratic organizers pushing back against his calculated bid to win over the voters he needs for a six-year Senate term. The Cook Political Report currently rates the Texas Senate race as a toss-up.

The Kennedy Center will close down as the Trump administration seeks to move forward with renovations and continues to fight over the historic institution’s name. 
The center has faced significant financial struggles in recent years coupled with critical maintenance issues including dilapidated roofing. President Donald Trump, who has been pushing for major renovations to the center for months, said it would be closing immediately on Tuesday after the institution’s board voted to shut it down. 
“The Board of The Kennedy Center today agreed, almost unanimously, to close the Building for Safety reasons, and so that it can begin the process of Reconstruction,” Trump posted on Truth Social, adding that the renovations would be contingent on the result of a lawsuit over adding his name to the center. 
“The closing will take place immediately, however, the Renovation and Reconstruction, which is a very large and complex job, cannot begin until such time as the D.C. Circuit rules on the Board’s approved name,” Trump said. “If the ruling is a negative one, which it should not be, and is not overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court, the Reconstruction and the Renovation of The Kennedy Center will not take place.”
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick <a href="https://x.com/howardlutnick/status/2099643013894939087?s=46">shared</a> a video on Monday of a piece of the Kennedy Center’s ceiling falling to the ground, saying that “failing roofing, collapsing concrete supports, and steel that is rotting have created completely unsafe conditions.”
The decision to close the center comes after Obama-appointed Judge Christopher Cooper <a href="https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.dcd.287972/gov.uscourts.dcd.287972.77.0_4.pdf">ruled</a> Tuesday that Trump’s name could not be added to the Kennedy Center without congressional approval. Trump said Tuesday that the Justice Department would immediately appeal Cooper’s decision. 
“The attorneys from the DOJ will ask for an expedited appeal. In the meantime, 17 Million Dollars, raised by President Trump, has been put into The Kennedy Center account to keep it afloat,” Trump said. 
Trump has advocated for the center to be shut down for renovations as it faces dire financial headwinds. Estimates given to the center’s board of trustees ahead of the vote to close down <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/kennedy-center-on-verge-of-certain-fiscal-collapse">indicated</a> that it would not be able to make payroll and pay maintenance contracts within “a matter of weeks.”

Attorney General Todd Blanche declined Tuesday to comment on an ongoing federal investigation involving Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) that could result in her deportation. 
The Daily Wire’s Mary Margaret Olohan asked Blanche during a White House press briefing whether the Trump administration would move to deport Omar if Homeland Security Investigations determined she had committed immigration fraud.
“I’m not talking about ongoing criminal investigations,” Blanche said. “And so, I’m not — I don’t have anything to say about your first question.”
White House border czar Tom Homan confirmed Sunday that federal officials continue to probe Omar after Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin <a href="https://x.com/bennyjohnson/status/2098209805215080868?s=20">stated</a> last week that Omar “married her brother to try to bring him into the United States.” Homan did not say Omar committed immigration fraud, but said feds continue to examine allegations and did not rule out stripping her of her American citizenship, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ice-investigating-rep-ilhan-omar-homan-confirms">The Daily Wire</a> previously reported. 
“I’m not going to comment on an ongoing criminal investigation,” he told Fox News host Jacqui Heinrich on Sunday. “I know things are going on. But I can’t give specifics of what’s happening. But we’ll see.”
“I mean, if someone committed [an] immigration violation and someone committed marriage fraud or anything like that, regardless if they’re a congresswoman or not, no one’s above the law, so I’ll leave it at that. We’ll let HSI, Homeland Security Investigations, continue the investigation,” Homan said.
Heinrich then pressed Homan on whether his comments confirmed an investigation is ongoing.
“I’m confirming that ICE is — yeah. Look, I said months ago, that is something that’s been reported, and it needs to be looked at,” he replied.
The Trump administration has launched a broader effort to denaturalize foreign-born individuals accused of fraud during the immigration process. In May, Vice President JD Vance <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/jd-vance-cranks-up-pressure-on-ilhan-omar-over-immigration-fraud-scandal">said</a> that the Justice Department was actively investigating Omar over the fraud claims.
Homan did not confirm whether the federal government is actively pursuing Omar’s denaturalization.
“I’ve been around 40 years, and we’ve done de-nats cases. We have denaturalized citizens based on fraud, based on lying on their applications or lying through the process, misrepresenting themselves, or maybe misrepresenting organizations they belong to or beliefs they have. But denaturalization is a process,” Homan said.
“It’s a very serious process. So if someone lies through that process to becoming a citizen, and we can prove they in fact lied or misrepresented themselves, we can absolutely denaturalize them. We’ve done it before many times over the last 40 years I’ve been around. So it’s a process,” he added.
Homan pushed back on criticism from Democrats who say such an investigation is politically motivated.
“There’s nothing political about it,” he said. “ICE is enforcing law that Congress wrote. I mean, these are all laws that are in statute.”

A new poll has Republican Christine Drazan narrowly leading Democratic Gov. Tina Kotek in deep-blue Oregon, giving the GOP challenger a 2-point edge with less than two months to go before Election Day.
The Sept. 11 <a href="https://www.oregonjournalismproject.org/new-poll-shows-drazan-with-slight-lead-in-governors-race">DHM Research survey</a> of 600 likely voters in Oregon found Drazan leading Kotek 45% to 43%, with Pacific Green Party candidate Brett Smith clocking in at 4%. About 13% remain undecided, and Drazan’s lead falls within the 4-point margin of error.
The poll was conducted by Portland-based DHM Research for the business-backed group Grow Oregon, giving Republicans fresh hope of flipping the governor’s mansion in a state that has elected Democratic governors in every election since 1986.
“This poll confirms what we already see on the ground: Oregonians are ready for change, and they see Christine as the leader who can deliver it,” Trey Rosser, Drazan’s campaign strategist, told the<a href="https://www.oregonjournalismproject.org/new-poll-shows-drazan-with-slight-lead-in-governors-race?utm_source=chatgpt.com"> Oregon Journalism Project</a>. “Four years ago, Tina Kotek made big promises on homelessness, housing, education, and affordability, but today, Oregonians are paying more, getting less, and watching the same problems get worse.”
Despite the optimism, history — and political gravity — still pose significant challenges for Drazan. Oregon is a reliably blue state, and Kotek <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2022/11/08/us/elections/results-oregon.html">defeated</a> Drazan in 2022, 47% to 43.5%, while independent candidate Betsy Johnson captured nearly 9% of the vote.
This time, the GOP hopes Green Party candidate <a href="https://www.pacificgreens.org/meet_the_candidates_for_nomination_brett_smith">Brett Smith</a> can peel away some of Portland’s left-wing base angry with the status quo and the Democratic establishment, potentially helping Drazan capitalize on a divided Democratic vote.
The fresh poll also offers a snapshot of why Kotek could face a competitive reelection fight. Fifty-nine percent of respondents said they disapprove of her job performance, compared with 37% who approve, according to the Oregon Journalism Project. Nearly 60% said Oregon is headed in the wrong direction.
Affordability is top of mind for Oregon voters, with 87% saying it is an “extremely” or “very” important issue, followed by K-12 education at 85% and housing affordability at 78%. Despite the outcry over data centers, the issue ranks below several other concerns, with 50% of respondents calling it “extremely” or “very” important. Taxes and homelessness each registered at 77%, while 73% cited crime as a top concern.
Kotek has faced increasing criticism over several controversies during her first term, The Daily Wire previously reported. In 2024, public records revealed that her administration had explored creating a formal “Office of the First Spouse” for her wife, Aimee Kotek Wilson. Senior staff had raised concerns about the proposal, and Kotek ultimately abandoned plans for a formal office after public scrutiny.
At the same time, many of the priorities Kotek campaigned on in 2022 have shown <a href="https://www.governing.com/politics/tina-koteks-complicated-road-to-re-election">little measurable progress</a>. The governor pledged to dramatically increase housing production to address Oregon’s affordability crisis, setting a goal of building 36,000 new housing units annually. Instead, the state has continued to fall well short of that benchmark, The Daily Wire reported.

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) is taking one of his most aggressive shots at the Trump administration since his failed reelection bid, filing eight articles of impeachment against Secretary of War Pete Hegseth on Tuesday and forcing House Republicans to vote on whether to remove the Pentagon chief.
Massie introduced the privileged resolution on the House floor, accusing Hegseth of committing “high crimes and misdemeanors” through his handling of the war in Iran, military operations in Yemen and the Caribbean, the capture of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro, and his <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/hegseth-moves-to-strip-mark-kelly-of-rank-and-pay-over-seditious-military-video">treatment of Sen. Mark Kelly</a> (D-AZ).
Because Massie filed the resolution as privileged, the House must take it up within two legislative days. Republicans control the chamber, meaning GOP leaders could move to table the resolution rather than advance it toward an impeachment trial. The impeachment push represents a remarkable escalation in the long-running feud between Massie and the Trump administration, a conflict that has already cost Massie his congressional seat in an embarrassing primary rout.
Massie <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-machine-topples-thomas-massie">lost the Republican primary for Kentucky’s 4th Congressional District</a> in May to Ed Gallrein, a former Navy SEAL backed by President Donald Trump. Hegseth personally traveled to Kentucky the day before the primary to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/watch-pete-hegseth-recreates-trump-pep-talk-word-for-word">campaign for Gallrein</a>, an unusual intervention by a sitting Pentagon chief.
Gallrein defeated Massie 55% to 45%, according to the Commonwealth of Kentucky’s <a href="https://vrsws.sos.ky.gov/liveresults?autorefresh=true&amp;id=2">report</a> on the final vote. Massie is now serving out the remainder of his congressional term. Massie has spent much of the year flailing at the administration; now, his impeachment resolution makes his dispute over the handling of the Iran conflict the centerpiece of its first three articles.
The first article of impeachment alleges that Hegseth initiated the Iran war without a declaration of war, statutory authorization, an attack on the United States, or an imminent threat. The second accuses him of defying congressional directives to withdraw U.S. forces from Iran, while the third alleges that Hegseth continued hostilities after the expiration of the War Powers Resolution’s statutory time limits. Massie’s remaining articles broaden the case considerably. One accuses Hegseth of failing to minimize civilian casualties, and another alleges “extrajudicial killing” in connection with U.S. strikes against suspected drug traffickers in the Caribbean and eastern Pacific.
The sixth accuses Hegseth of retaliating against Kelly over a video in which Kelly and other lawmakers told members of the military they had an obligation to refuse illegal orders. Massie characterizes Hegseth’s response as an unconstitutional effort to suppress protected speech.
The seventh article targets Hegseth’s involvement in the January operation that led to Maduro&#8217;s capture and extradition. Massie alleges that the operation lacked constitutional or legal authority. 
The eighth focuses on the administration’s military campaign in Yemen, accusing Hegseth of initiating Operation Rough Rider without congressional authorization or an imminent threat to the United States and of violating war-powers reporting requirements.
“These constitutional violations extend beyond the illegal war in Iran,” Massie said after reading the resolution. He accused Hegseth of “abusing the power of his office” and said Congress must not “turn a blind eye” to what he characterized as unconstitutional and illegal actions. Pentagon press secretary Kingsley Wilson rejected that characterization, telling <a href="https://www.npr.org/2026/09/15/g-s1-143407/massie-impeach-hegseth-iran">NPR</a> that Hegseth has been a “transformative leader” and that &#8220;the entire department is unified behind&#8221; Hegseth&#8217;s leadership.
Massie’s effort is not the first attempt to impeach Hegseth this year; House Democrats <a href="https://www.axios.com/2026/04/15/iran-war-pete-hegseth-congress-impeachment-articles-democrats-reflecting-search-interest-order">introduced six articles</a> against the secretary in April, including allegations related to the Iran war and other conduct.

WASHINGTON — What happens to federal employees who refuse to carry out President Donald Trump’s agenda because they are waiting for the next administration?
The Daily Wire put that question directly to Attorney General Todd Blanche on Tuesday, asking what the administration is doing about concerns that ideological employees inside the FBI and the Department of Justice could remain in place, resist the president’s policies, and simply try “waiting out” Trump and a possible future Republican administration.
“There’s concern among the MAGA base that there’s a lot of ideological actors in the FBI and DOJ still that are waiting out President Donald Trump and the next possible Republican administration to get back to doing what they were before,” Daily Wire White House Correspondent Mary Margaret Olohan asked Blanche. “Are you concerned about that? And what are you doing about that?”
“Ideological — any ideology that any federal employee has, whether it’s a federal agent or somebody at the Department of Justice or any other agency that works in this administration — and the executive is never a good thing — whether it’s Republican or Democrat,” Blanche replied.
“And so, I’m not sure exactly what you’re referring to, except for just generally,” he continued. “But one of the things that [FBI] Director [Kash] Patel has been doing, and that I’ve been doing and other cabinet secretaries have been doing, is making sure that everybody that works in this administration, whether you’re a career or a political, are doing work that’s consistent with the President’s agenda.”
“That’s what you have to do if you’re going to work in the executive,” Blanche added. “That’s what Article II says.”
“It’s not something that I ‘worry about,’ but when and if we learn about that happening, we’ll do whatever we can to stop it,” he concluded.
Article II of the Constitution vests executive power in the president and directs him to “take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed.” The Constitution Annotated, maintained by Congress’ Library of Congress, says the Supreme Court has recognized presidential authority to supervise executive officials, while also noting that Congress has established statutory structures governing the federal workforce.
The question of career employees resisting presidential policy has been a recurring issue in the Trump era. During Trump’s first administration, disputes between political appointees and career officials became a major subject of debate <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/resistance-from-within-federal-workers-push-back-against-trump/2017/01/31/c65b110e-e7cb-11e6-b82f-687d6e6a3e7c_story.html">almost instantly</a>, and the issue returned to the forefront <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2024/nov/18/trump-federal-worker-civil-service-protections">immediately following</a> Trump’s 2024 victory as his allies argued that the federal bureaucracy had obstructed his first-term agenda.
The administration has since taken substantial steps to alter the federal workforce. In February, the Office of Personnel Management <a href="https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2026/02/06/2026-02375/improving-performance-accountability-and-responsiveness-in-the-civil-service">finalized a rule</a> creating the Schedule Policy/Career category for certain career positions involving policy-related work. The category, originally called “Schedule F,” essentially makes the positions within the category &#8220;at will&#8221; positions. OPM says those roles remain career-based and are filled on merit rather than being political appointments.
OPM also explicitly addressed “policy resistance” in the rulemaking, citing reports that career federal employees were resisting Trump administration policies and arguing that existing tools had proven insufficient to address the problem.
A September 2025 <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2025/09/14/trump-federal-workers-deep-state-civil-service-00558940">Politico</a> report similarly described career federal employees who had chosen to remain in government despite Trump’s effort to shrink the bureaucracy. Some employees told the outlet that they believed administrations come and go while career employees remain, though administration officials argued that federal workers still have an obligation to perform the duties assigned to them.
The FBI has been at the center of the dispute. <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2026/06/01/us/politics/fbi-support-network-agents-trump-patel.html">In June</a>, former FBI officials established the FBI Support Network, an offshoot of the Justice Connection, to provide legal, mental-health, and employment assistance to current bureau employees amid the Trump administration’s restructuring efforts. Former officials described significant tension inside the bureau, while FBI Director Kash Patel has repeatedly rejected accusations that personnel decisions are politically motivated, saying the bureau is addressing bias and misconduct.
The competing visions go to the heart of the argument over the federal bureaucracy: whether career officials provide institutional expertise that should remain insulated from politics, or whether unelected officials can undermine the elected president when they disagree with his policies.

Former Democratic fundraiser Lindy Li says former Vice President Kamala Harris intentionally misled donors in the weeks before she took over the campaign — and the donors knew it.
Li, who switched her party affiliation after Democrats ignored the warning signs that made it clear former President Joe Biden was not capable of serving another term, gave an insider&#8217;s view of what transpired in the days before Biden dropped out of the 2024 presidential race — and what Harris did to crown herself his de facto successor.
&#8220;It was all charade. She was auditioning for Biden&#8217;s endorsement, and the way that she did it was by imposing a fake rule on her staff to not talk about her ascending to the nomination,&#8221; Li told <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/ex-dem-insider-accuses-harris-charade-major-donors-days-before-biden-dropped-out">Fox News Digital</a>.
Li worked closely with donors as a top fundraiser for the party, and she said that as the campaign stretched into the summer of 2024 it became painfully clear to those closest to Biden that he would not make it to November. Harris, she said, used that time to position herself favorably with the donors.
&#8220;I was on the call; she would host calls with donors and pretend to support Biden and say there&#8217;s no daylight between Biden and herself. All the while she was auditioning for those very donors,&#8221; Li explained, adding that Harris carried the charade all the way through to the day Biden left the race: &#8220;It was either on July 19th or July 20th. Actually, I think it was July 19, 2024; Kamala Harris held a call saying that there was no way that Biden would drop out and that she would stick with him until the end. And these were some of the biggest donors in the party.&#8221;
&#8220;A lot of us have group chats, and the immediate reaction is what an effing waste of time. What a charade, how fake. Like these are like the wealthiest people in the country saying that,&#8221; Li said of the general reaction to Harris&#8217; comments. &#8220;They were very aware they were being lied to, that Biden was clearly not okay and to be told that he was okay when he was clearly incapacitated. It was insulting.&#8221;
Once Biden dropped out of the race on July 21, Li said that the president had been hesitant to endorse Harris. But because she had done such a thorough job of ingratiating herself with party donors — and she&#8217;d all but told them that she had Biden&#8217;s full confidence — Biden felt like he did not have a choice.
&#8220;She was flattering people left and right. The first 24 hours were a very intensive charm offensive on her part. And that&#8217;s how she was able to consolidate it so quickly. She flattered people up the wazoo. It made it abundantly clear that Biden had endorsed her. And Biden initially — I don&#8217;t know if people know this, but he didn&#8217;t want to endorse her right away. It took him a while,&#8221; Li said.
The former Democratic fundraiser has written a book — &#8220;<a href="https://www.harpercollins.com/products/unburdened-lindy-li?variant=44717895680034">Unburdened</a>&#8221; — detailing the months that led up to the end of Biden&#8217;s campaign and her subsequent exit from the party. It will be available September 22.
