Former President Donald Trump accused Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg of “prosecutorial misconduct” on Saturday in his first 2024 campaign rally in Waco, Texas.

Facing the prospect of an indictment in the coming days, Trump argued to his supporters gathered at the airport that Democrats are again using underhanded tactics to disrupt his political career by targeting him with yet another “hoax.”

Bragg “is investigating me for something that is not a crime, not a misdemeanor, not an affair,” Trump told the crowd, alluding to the inquiry over alleged hush money payments to adult film actress Stormy Daniels during the 2016 election cycle.

“This is really prosecutorial misconduct,” Trump continued. “The innocence of people makes no difference to these radical left maniacs.”

Trump also insisted Bragg has “nothing” on him and claimed the prosecutor “stacked his office with D.C. operatives to make sure that Trump got taken care of.”

The investigation by Bragg, a Democrat, is one of several Trump faces as he ramps up his third campaign for the White House. But the former president has placed most of his focus on the New York criminal inquiry in recent weeks amid reports of law enforcement making preparations for a possible indictment in that case.

Amid the uproar, a trio of House Republican chairmen is trading public blows with Bragg as they demand communications, documents, and testimony about the Trump investigation while raising concerns that Bragg is bending to “political pressure” from left-wing activists and others to penalize Trump for an alleged campaign finance violation.

So far, Bragg appears to be resisting their inquiry. “It is not appropriate for Congress to interfere with pending local investigations,” he said in a statement on Saturday. “This unprecedented inquiry by federal elected officials into an ongoing matter serves only to hinder, disrupt and undermine the legitimate work of our dedicated prosecutors. As always, we will continue to follow the facts and be guided by the rule of law in everything we do.”

As speculation about Bragg’s probe reaches a fever pitch, Trump argued that his supporters see through the “bulls***” as the case gets “adjudicated” in relentless media coverage.

“They’re not coming after me,” Trump added. “They’re coming after you, and I’m just standing in their way, and I’m going to be standing in their way for a long time.”
