Multiple people across the country were killed and several injured in shootings over Memorial Day weekend.

Shootings in Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Pennsylvania ended with three killed and others injured, including a young child.

At a festival in Taft, Oklahoma, on Sunday, a 39-year-old woman was killed and seven others injured when someone started shooting after an argument, according to witnesses. A nine-year-old girl was among the wounded.

The 26-year-old suspect was taken into custody after turning himself in and held at the Muskogee County Jail. Police were at the festival and were able to help those injured in the shooting.

“We heard a lot of shots and we thought it was firecrackers at first,” local cafe owner Sylvia Wilson told the Associated Press. “Then people start running and ducking. And we were yelling at everyone… ‘Get down! Get down!’”

One witness said that “bullets were flying everywhere.”

A Memorial Day gathering in Pennsylvania was also marred by violence as four people were shot early Monday morning in the Port Richmond neighborhood in Philadelphia. The shooting left a 16-year-old girl and a 21-year-old woman dead. A 14-year-old boy and a 21-year-old man were also injured.

Authorities said they believed that multiple weapons and shooters were involved.

Another weekend shooting took place in downtown Chattanooga, Tennessee, late Saturday night as six people were injured near the city’s aquarium.

“Officers who were patrolling the area heard gunshots and saw multiple people shooting weapons and numerous people fleeing the area. Officers began rendering aid to the victims and assisting others to safety,” the Associated Press reported

Police noted that two of the injuries were life-threatening and that most of those involved appeared to be juveniles. A person was reportedly detained but was later released, and no arrests have yet been made.

Chattanooga Police Chief Celeste Murphy said that law enforcement believes the shooting to be related to an “altercation” between the two groups of young people but has no evidence that the incident was gang-related.

“That’s not been officially ruled out, but there’s nothing indicating that at this time,” Murphy stated.

As The Daily Wire previously reported, Chicago, Illinois, also had a violent weekend as at least five people were killed and 18 injured by noon on Sunday.
