Tragedy struck Kansas City, Missouri, just hours after the Chiefs defeated the Tennessee Titans to secure a place in Super Bowl LIV. A gunman opened fire on people waiting in a line outside a bar, killing two and injuring 15 more.
The New York Daily News <a href="https://www.nydailynews.com/news/crime/ny-kansas-city-bar-shooting-leaves-two-dead-fifteen-injured-20200120-n7cos3skdjhkbhfxrshpmo2nae-story.html">reported</a> that the shooter, according to police, was one of those who died at the scene. The shooting occurred around 11:30 p.m. outside 9ine Ultra Lounge
“He killed a woman and wounded 15 other people, three of whom were in critical condition, which was hosting a party to celebrate the Chief’s return to the Super Bowl (the team hasn’t made an appearance in 50 years) before he was shot by an armed security guard, the city’s police Capt. David Jackson told reporters at the scene,” the outlet reported.
Jackson also said that police found “quite a chaotic scene” after they arrived and asked for assistance from other law enforcement agencies.
“A preliminary investigation found that the gunman approached the line of people outside the bar and started shooting, but police are still investigating whether he was targeting a specific person or just randomly opened fire, Jackson said. It was also not clear if there was an altercation prior to the shooting,” the Daily news reported.
In addition to the deaths, 15 people reportedly sought medical attention from area hospitals due to the shooting. KSHB <a href="https://www.kshb.com/news/crime/police-investigating-shooting-at-a-nightclub-in-independence">reported</a> that three of the victims are listed in critical condition. The outlet also reported that an armed security guard working at the club apparently shot and killed the suspect. ABC News <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/US/dead-15-injured-kansas-city-shooting/story?id=68398118">reported</a> that no responding officers fired their weapons.
Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker told reporters at the time that the shooting put “a tragic end to such a wonderful day in Kansas City.”
“It’s just hard to stand here and talk about this kind of tragedy on really one of the best days Kansas City has had in a long time,” she added.
Police still don’t know why the gunman opened fire. The Kansas City Police Department released a statement saying the “next anticipated information release will most likely be the ID of deceased victims once the next of kin have been notified.&#8221;
Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas <a href="https://twitter.com/QuintonLucasKC/status/1219215467279278085">praised</a> the security guard who took out the gunman, saying he, “appears to have kept the situation from being even worse.&#8221;
The shooting occurred alongside attacks in Honolulu, Hawaii and San Antonio, Texas. In total, six people were killed in the three shootings. In Honolulu, two police officers – Tiffany Enriquez and Kaulike Kalama – were killed after responding to a stabbing. The officers were shot while they helped a woman who had been stabbed in the leg, NBC News <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/six-people-including-2-police-officers-killed-multiple-shootings-n1118706">reported</a>. The home where the incident occurred caught fire after the stabbing. The suspect, identified as Jerry Hanel, and two other women who were in the home at the time have all been accounted for.
In San Antonio, an argument inside a club during a concert led to a shooting that killed two people and injured five others.

On December 29, an armed man opened fire on churchgoers at the West Freeway Church of Christ in White Settlement, Texas, for approximately five seconds before being neutralized by Wilson, who used a handgun he was carrying to stop the attacker.

Last September, 2020 Democratic Party presidential candidate Joe Biden attacked Abbott for allowing churchgoers to carry weapons with them in places of worship so they can defend themselves from attackers.

Other Democrats responded to Wilson&#8217;s heroic actions by attacking the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens.
Earlier this month, Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren responded to Wilson&#8217;s heroic actions by announcing that she would not support laws that make it easier for law-abiding citizens to carry weapons to protect themselves and others.
“Will you support a universal conceal carry law for everyone in the country who’s willing to be licensed and checked by the government?” Warren was asked at a town hall even.

Democratic presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg, an anti-gun extremist, responded to Wilson&#8217;s heroic actions by essentially saying that Wilson should not have been the one who took out the shooter.
“It may be true — I wasn’t there; I don’t know the facts — that somebody in the congregation had their own gun and killed the person who murdered two other people, but it’s the job of law enforcement to have guns and to decide when to shoot,” Bloomberg <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/bloomberg-on-hero-stopping-church-shooting-cant-let-the-average-american-have-guns-in-church">said</a>. “You just do not want the average citizen carrying a gun in a crowded place.”

“MedStar spokeswoman Macara Trusty confirmed that one person died at the scene of the shooting, one person died en route to a hospital, and another person was transported to a hospital in critical condition,” The Dallas Morning News <a href="https://www.dallasnews.com/news/crime/2019/12/29/2-dead-1-in-critical-condition-after-reported-shooting-at-church-in-white-settlement/">reported</a>. “The shooter is believed to be one of those three people, said Fort Worth Fire Department spokesman Mike Drivdahl.”

Multiple people were reportedly shot at a church in Texas on Sunday, and a reporter who claimed to have viewed video footage of the attack suggested that armed churchgoers stopped the attacker.

Church Shooting Reported In Texas, Armed Churchgoers Stopped It, Reports Say

Police officers in Mobile County, Alabama, entered a home and shot a woman while trying to arrest a man who was already in jail. Authorities are now blaming the woman because she held up a shotgun at them after they entered her home erroneously.
Police officers were dispatched to the home to arrest 41-year-old Nicholas McLeod, who used to live in the house that was stormed. McLeod had several outstanding warrants for his arrest. But McLeod no longer lived in the home. Instead, his nephew, Christopher, lived in the house along with his fiancé, Ann Rylee, 19.
Christopher told news outlets that he was outside the house when multiple police officers pulled up, decked out in body armor and carrying rifles. Christopher said the officers told him to put his hands up.
“They were looking for someone who used to live at that house years ago. He was my uncle,” McLeod said, <a href="https://www.al.com/news/2019/12/miscommunication-led-to-alabama-woman-being-shot-by-officers-trying-to-arrest-man-already-in-jail.html">according to The Associated Press</a>.
McLeod told news outlets that he informed the police that his fiancée, Rylee, was inside the home and sleeping on a recliner with quick access to a shotgun for protection. McLeod said two federal marshals then yelled “gun” and shots were fired.
“They had us face down in the dirt outside the whole time this was going on,” McLeod said.
Rylee was shot multiple times and has had surgery for her wounds.
“I just hope she&#8217;s OK. That&#8217;s my No. 1,” McLeod said, according to the AP. “It&#8217;s just so unfortunate because none of this needed to happen, it had nothing to do with us. We&#8217;re just victims of an unfortunate situation.”
WALA <a href="https://www.fox10tv.com/news/mobile_county/mcso-sheriff-woman-pointed-gun-at-officer-before-she-was/article_effd4f0c-22da-11ea-b92c-97a70d44e2ba.html">reported</a> that Mobile County Sheriff Sam Cochran laid blame for the incident on Rylee.
&#8220;As agents went up to the house they detained two men outside, who said there was a woman still inside. As they went to make entry into the house&#8230; This lady had armed herself with a shotgun and the entry team was giving her orders to drop the gun, put the gun down, drop the gun several times &#8212; over a period of a few seconds it seems like&#8230; And there is video recordings of that. She didn&#8217;t and she pointed the gun at one of them &#8212; then two or three agents fired upon her striking her three or four times,&#8221; Cochran said.
Agents shouldn’t have even entered the home, as the man they were looking for, Nicholas McLeod, had been arrested a day earlier and was sitting in jail during the time officers went to Christopher and Rylee’s home. Cochran told WALA that they didn’t know Nicholas had already been arrested and wouldn’t have gone to the home if they had known.
&#8220;We do know there was a miscommunication&#8230; And we&#8217;ve narrowed it down to one of two things: The investigators did not make one final check this morning to send teams out to make the arrests or warrants section did not communicate to the computer system &#8212; that the warrants were no longer active. We&#8217;re running that down,&#8221; Cochran said. &#8220;However, if she would not have pointed a gun at the agents &#8212; they would have determined all of that on the scene and would have bid her a good day and thank you very much.&#8221;
The Alabama Bureau of Investigation has now taken over the case and will investigate the situation. Though Cochran said there was footage of the officers telling Rylee to put the gun down, WALA reported that there is no body camera footage.

The family of one of the victims of last Friday&#8217;s shootings at Naval Air Station Pensacola is asking the U.S. government reconsider a rule that bans members of the military from bringing their legally owned weapons onto base.
<a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/family-josh-watson-pensacola-florida-attack-navy-hero-second-amendment">Fox News reports</a> that the parents and brother of Joshua Watson, a United States Naval Academy graduate stationed at the Pensacola base told Fox &amp; Friends Tuesday that they believe that Joshua would still be alive if he had been allowed to be armed while attending classes to become a pilot.
&#8220;These men and women are asked to go defend their country overseas or wherever and my brother was an expert marksman. He was captain of the Rifle Team for the Navy. He was well-qualified to have a firearm and defend himself,&#8221; Watson&#8217;s brother Adam told the hosts Tuesday morning.
&#8220;And, if we&#8217;re going to ask these men and women to stand watch for our country, they need the opportunity to defend themselves. This isn&#8217;t the first time this happened, and if we don&#8217;t change something, it won&#8217;t be the last,&#8221; he said.
&#8220;If my brother had not had that right stripped from him, this would be a different conversation,&#8221; Adam Watson concluded.
Watson was one of three people killed in last Friday&#8217;s shooting, which Trump Administration officials are now saying is considered an &#8220;act of terrorism,&#8221; though investigators have found no concrete motive as of yet. A Saudi national &#8212; a member of that country&#8217;s military in the United States on a visa allowing him to study to be a pilot at Pensacola&#8217;s naval base &#8212; opened fire in a classroom, just hours after reportedly posting an anti-American &#8220;manifesto&#8221; on social media, and just a few months after complaining to superiors about being mistreated by his instructors.
Watson&#8217;s parents told Fox &amp; Friends that their son died a hero. Shot and &#8220;bleeding profusely,&#8221; he dragged himself outside the building where the massacre took place to meet first responders and explain what had happened.
&#8220;Sometime early in the morning, after 6 o&#8217;clock, we know that he was shot at least five times and then somehow found the strength &#8212; bleeding profusely &#8212; to make it out the door, hail first responders,&#8221; Adam Watson told the morning show hosts. &#8216;And, they came up to him and with basically his last breath summoned his courage to give an accurate description of the shooter and his location so they could do their duty.&#8221;

&#8220;While post commanders by and large determine their own regulations for acceptable behavior on the base they oversee, many locations do not allow any personal firearms to be brought on the installation or stored in base housing or barracks,&#8221; the site notes. &#8220;Troops living in barracks or other similar quarters who own personal weapons typically must register and store them in a base firearms storage facility.&#8221;
President Donald Trump has <a href="https://www.military.com/daily-news/2018/02/23/trump-pushes-allow-troops-carry-personal-weapons-bases.html">spoken in favor of loosening rules</a> barring weapons on military bases, and in 2016, the Pentagon passed an update to regulations allowing base commanders to make the decision to allow weapons on their bases for themselves. A Saudi national who opened fire in a classroom on a U.S. Navy base in Florida may have become &#8220;radicalized&#8221; before the attack, authorities say, though law enforcement officials are still searching for links to international terrorist organizations.
<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/fbi-detains-10-saudis-after-attack-searching-for-more-after-attacker-had-party-to-watch-mass-shooting-videos">The Daily Wire reported Saturday</a> that the Saudi national, who is accused of killing three U.S. soliders during a pre-dawn rampage at Naval Air Station Pensacola on Friday, held a &#8220;mass shooting&#8221; dinner party where he and three others watched footage of mass shootings uploaded to online platforms. While the shooter opened fire inside, one of those three associates filmed the attempted massacre from a vehicle located outside the building.
According to anonymous sources close to the investigation, <a href="https://www.reuters.com/article/us-florida-shooting/saudi-suspect-in-u-s-navy-base-attack-linked-to-anti-u-s-twitter-screed-idUSKBN1YB0FK">per Reuters</a>, at least ten individuals are being held under suspicion that they contributed to or had some knowledge of the shooter&#8217;s plan, and that includes the individual who videotaped the incident. Officials are looking for at least ten more Saudi nationals and have asked members of the public to step forward with any information they may have related to the Pensacola shooting.
But while the existence of a videotape has some experts to connect Friday&#8217;s shooting to terrorism, the FBI appears to believe the Saudi national may have acted alone, if only because his methods don&#8217;t match those of any known terror group.
Counter-terrorism expert Rita Katz noted on Twitter that, &#8220;[t]he style of the <a class="PrettyLink hashtag customisable" dir="ltr" href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Pensacolashooting?src=hash" rel="tag" data-query-source="hashtag_click" data-scribe="element:hashtag">#Pensacolashooting</a> doesn&#8217;t necessarily resemble one group over another. However, given that ISIS has very little to lose at this point, it wouldn&#8217;t be surprising if it claimed the attack, regardless of the attacker&#8217;s potential allegiances.&#8221;
On Sunday, Reuters and other outlets reported that the shooter posted &#8220;anti-American screeds&#8221; to his social media ahead of the shooting, and MEMRI, which tracks and documents under-reported information about terrorism and Middle East politics, appears to have tracked down and located the shooter&#8217;s social media profiles.
&#8220;The [shooter] appeared to have posted a justification of his planned attack in English on Twitter a few hours before it began, according to SITE Intelligence Group, which monitors online Islamist extremism,&#8221; Reuters reported Sunday. &#8220;He referred to U.S. wars in Muslim countries, writing that he hated the American people for &#8216;committing crimes not only against Muslims but also humanity,&#8217; and criticizing Washington’s support for Israel, SITE’s analysis said.&#8221;
The shooter also quoted notorious al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.
President Donald Trump responded to the attack in a statement Friday, noting that he had spoken with Saudi Arabian leaders, who were also reportedly saddend by the incident.
“King Salman of Saudi Arabia just called to express his sincere condolences and give his sympathies to the families and friends of the warriors who were killed and wounded in the attack that took place in Pensacola, Florida,&#8221; the statement from Trump read. &#8220;The King said that the Saudi people are greatly angered by the barbaric actions of the shooter, and that this person in no way shape or form represents the feelings of the Saudi people who love the American people.”

CNN noted the gravity of the phone call that Trump had because it was with King Salman not his son, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
&#8220;Compared to Saudi Arabia&#8217;s often glacial standards, the 83-year-old monarch moved with remarkable speed to call Trump,&#8221; CNN <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2019/12/07/world/us-saudi-relationship/index.html">reported</a>. &#8220;The king quickly instructed his own security services to cooperate fully with US investigators into the shooting in which three people were killed at Naval Air Station Pensacola in Florida.&#8221;
The FBI requested more information from the public about the alleged attacker, tweeting: &#8220;The NAS Pensacola shooter is identified as Saudi national Mohammed Alshamrani. Anyone with information regarding his activites is encouraged to call 1-800-CALL-FBI. FBI Jacksonville is not aware of any credible threat toward the Pensacola community at this time.&#8221;

Multiples reports surfaced Friday night stating that six Saudi nationals have been detained for questioning near the Naval Air Station (NAS) in Pensacola, Florida, some who allegedly filmed an alleged member of Saudi military who went on shooting spree at the base earlier in the day.
&#8220;Six other Saudi nationals were detained for questioning near the scene of the shooting, including three who were seen filming the entire incident, according to a person briefed on the initial stages of the investigation,&#8221; The New York Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2019/12/06/us/nas-pensacola-shooting.html">reported</a>.
Fox News <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/saudis-arrested-questioning-pensacola-shooting">reported</a> that, according to a senior U.S. official, &#8220;the suspects were taken into custody and are being questioned about the shooting.&#8221;
The attacker killed three other people and wounded several others, including two police officers, in what authorities are investigating as a potential act of terrorism. The attacker was killed at the scene.

Six Saudis Taken Into Custody After Saudi Military Member Shoots Up U.S. Military Base, Reports Say

Authorities say the man responsible for a mass shooting at a naval air station in Pensacola on Friday morning is a Saudi national who was attending flight school at the base. A few hours after the shooting, which officials say they are investigating as a potential terror attack, Saudi Arabia&#8217;s King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud called President Trump to disavow the suspect&#8217;s &#8220;barbaric&#8221; actions.
Just before 7 a.m. on Friday morning, a gunman (whose name is here withheld according to Daily Wire policy on naming mass shooters) opened fire in a classroom in the center of the campus of Pensacola&#8217;s Naval Air Base. The suspect wounded ten people, three of whom died, before he was shot dead by sheriff&#8217;s deputies.
Amid reports that the shooter was a Saudi national, Trump tweeted out statements on the latest developments, including his conversations with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and with Saudi Arabia&#8217;s King Salman.
&#8220;Just received a full briefing on the tragic shooting at NAS Pensacola in Florida, and spoke to [Gov. DeSantis],&#8221; Trump tweeted a few hours after the attack Friday. &#8220;My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families during this difficult time. We are continuing to monitor the situation as the investigation is ongoing.&#8221;
Trump then retweeted a post from Florida Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz providing updates on the situation. The suspect appears to have been a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-attacker-at-florida-military-base-was-member-of-saudi-military-was-an-act-of-terrorism-congressman-says">student officer</a> with the Saudi Air Force and, while it is unclear right now which U.S. visa he obtained to arrive here, an <a href="https://twitter.com/RMConservative/status/1203012127952449541">A-2 visa</a> — <a href="https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/other-visa-categories/visas-diplomats.html">described</a> by the U.S. State Department as appropriate for those &#8220;traveling to the United States on behalf of [his/her] national government to engage solely in official activities for that government&#8221; — is perhaps likely . There is a lot to unpack and unravel here — especially for <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/hammer-us-must-side-saudi-arabia-against-iranian-josh-hammer">those of us</a> who have generally encouraged closer U.S.-Saudi military ties in order to help deter the far greater Middle East terrorism threat, Iran. This developing story has many moving parts, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia ought to be prepared for a Jamal Khashoggi-level public relations blowback when even a stalwart pro-Israel/anti-Iran conservative such as Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has an <a href="https://twitter.com/NBCNightlyNews/status/1203029174753153025">immediate reaction</a> that the Saudi government &#8220;needs to [financially] make things better for these victims.&#8221; Indeed, it is hard to disagree with the governor.
But the focus here must be on immigration policy. This is obviously correct. And it is important that this, and not a short-sighted hard diplomatic pivot away from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman at a time when the uniquely evil Iranian regime is yet again on the proverbial ropes and facing an increasingly restive population, become the preeminent takeaway from today&#8217;s horrific incident.
Why, as I <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/hammer-never-forget-911-we-need-rethink-how-we-josh-hammer">lamented</a> on the most recent anniversary of the 9/11 jihadist attacks, has the U.S. continued to implement an exceedingly generous and lax immigration policy for prospective immigrants from the broader Islamic world? While there will always be dispensations for legal immigration from the Islamic world, why are we not starting from a default baseline level of effectively zero? Our much-ballyhooed &#8220;vetting&#8221; procedures are oftentimes, as was tragically the case today, revealed to be exceedingly inadequate. An individual identified as an aviation student from Saudi Arabia who opened fire at a naval air base in Pensacola, Florida, has been confirmed dead, while at least ten victims have been transported to nearby hospitals after suffering injuries related to the shooting. At least three of the shooting victims have died.
According to the <a href="https://www.pnj.com/story/news/2019/12/06/breaking-active-shooter-reported-base-nas-pensacola/4351773002/">Pensacola News Journal</a>, a spokeswoman from Escambia County Sheriff&#8217;s Office (ECSO) confirmed Friday morning that the active shooter who opened fire at Naval Air Station Pensacola is dead. &#8220;ECSO spokeswoman Amber Southard confirmed the shooter was dead just before 8 a.m. Friday,&#8221; the Journal reports.
In an update on the developing story, the <a href="https://apnews.com/1102076110d04018176b4f7f12017347">Associated Press</a> reports that a U.S. official says the suspect &#8220;was an aviation student from Saudi Arabia and authorities are investigating if the shooting was terrorism-related.&#8221; (UPDATE: <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-attacker-at-florida-military-base-was-member-of-saudi-military-was-an-act-of-terrorism-congressman-says">Attacker At Florida Military Base Was Member Of Saudi Military, ‘Was An Act Of Terrorism,’ Congressman Says</a>) 
Authorities say the shooting took place in a classroom building on the base and was first reported at 6:51 a.m.
According to Sheriff David Morgan, a total of 11 people were injured, four of them, including the shooter, having died from the wounds.
A spokesperson for Baptist Hospital has confirmed that seven patients who suffered injuries related to the shooting are being treated at the hospital. Early reports that some of the victims were transported to Sacred Heart Hospital were incorrect.
&#8220;Two ECSO deputies are among those injured and are hospitalized,&#8221; the Journal reported in a 9:45 a.m. update. &#8220;One was shot in the arm and one was shot in the knee. The deputy who was shot in the knee is undergoing surgery.&#8221;
The updates follow earlier reports that at around 7:00 a.m. authorities were working to &#8220;take down&#8221; an active shooter on the base, as the Journal first reported.
&#8220;Amber Southard, spokeswoman for the ECSO, said little information is available at the moment, but shots have been fired on base and a heavy law enforcement presence is there to eliminate the threat,&#8221; the outlet reported in a 7:30 a.m. update to its original report. &#8220;Scanner traffic for Escambia County Fire and Rescue indicated 10 patients are being transported to local hospitals.&#8221;
&#8220;Three medical helicopters are in route and several military ambulances have also been seen in the area,&#8221; the Journal noted.
A spokesman for NAS Pensacola confirmed to <a href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2019/12/06/pensacola-shooter-nas-pensacola-base-locked-down-florida/4351814002/">USA Today</a> that the active shooter was reported around 7 a.m. Friday, prompting both gates to be closed and the base to go on lock down.

UPDATES: Pensacola Naval Air Base Shooting Suspect From Saudi Arabia; Officials Investigating If Terror-Related

At approximately 3:20 a.m. on Sunday, a gunman opened fire on the 700 block of Canal Street in New Orleans, Louisiana.
10 people were wounded by the gunman, all of whom are being treated at local hospitals, according to police. Two of the wounded are reportedly in critical condition, both having been shot in the torso.
Speaking with the media at around 5 a.m., New Orleans Police Superintendent Shaun Ferguson said that there was already a police presence at the scene. <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/US/multiple-people-shot-bayou-classic-football-game-orleans/story?id=67415863">ABC News</a> reports that the police were out in force because of the annual Bayou Classic football game between Southern University and Grambling State University.
“Our officers were out here throughout this entire incident, within feet when this incident occurred. Unfortunately, there were so many people out here, we were unable to determine who was actually firing the shots at that time,” Ferguson stated.
According to the <a href="https://twitter.com/nopdnews/status/1201115438333206529?s=21">NOPD Twitter</a> account, while “an individual was detained near the scene” following the shooting, “their possible involvement &#8230; remains under investigation,” and “no arrests have been made.”
Officers heard the shots, reports Ferguson, and “took position to try to detain that individual that was detained, as well as help the victims themselves.”

As for the victims, Ferguson said he could “not confirm” any ages or genders.

The NOPD Twitter account also released a statement from Superintendent Ferguson in which he urges anyone with information pertaining to the crime to contact “NOPD Eighth District detectives” or call Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans.
“A reward of up to $5,000 is available for information leading to an arrest in this investigation,” the statement reads.

Ferguson also stated: “What happened in our city overnight was a cowardly and senseless act that we cannot and will not tolerate. For a fourth straight year, New Orleans continues to see significant reductions in violent crime. Mayor Cantrell, myself, and all of City leadership remain steadfast and committed to continuing that trend. We will not let the acts of a few deter us. While this investigation is in the very beginning stages, one thing is certain – we will not stop until we identify and arrest those responsible.”
“To the victims – you are in our thoughts and prayers, and we will work tirelessly to bring those behind this cowardly act to justice. That is a promise,” the statement concludes.

Shooting In New Orleans; 10 Injured

The mass shooting at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas has resulted in 10 Mexican citizens filing a lawsuit, with the help of the Mexican government, against the retail giant.
On August 3, a 21-year-old man from Allen, Texas, who has espoused anti-immigrant and white nationalist sentiments, opened fire in a Walmart in El Paso, murdering 22 people and injuring another two dozen. The horrific shooting infamously took place the same day that a man expressing <a href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/2019/08/07/dayton-shooting-what-do-we-know-connor-betts-politics/1943289001/">extremist left-wing</a> ideology fatally shot 10 people and injured a total of 27 in Dayton, Ohio.
Of the two shootings, the El Paso shooting has received the most media attention, in part because of the shooter&#8217;s white nationalist and anti-immigrant views,  as well as former Democratic presidential candidate Beto O&#8217;Rourke, who is from El Paso, making the shooting a key piece of his campaign messaging.
The ethnicity of many of the victims also played a role in the shooting&#8217;s national coverage. Of the 22 people killed, eight were Mexican nationals, while another eight of the 24 injured were likewise Mexicans.
On Wednesday, the Mexican foreign ministry issued a statement Wednesday declaring its rationale for supporting the lawsuit.
&#8220;The objective of these suits, presented in El Paso county, is to hold the company responsible for not taking reasonable and necessary measures to protect its clients from the attack,&#8221; the foreign ministry said in a statement reported by <a href="https://news.yahoo.com/mexicans-sue-walmart-over-el-paso-shooting-185938190.html">AFP</a>. &#8220;The plaintiffs are seeking not only justice for themselves, but security for the general public.&#8221;
The ministry said that among the ten Mexican citizens who brought the lawsuit are survivors of the shooting and relatives of the victims.
Before going on his rampage, the El Paso shooter posted a manifesto condemning the &#8220;Hispanic invasion&#8221; of the state; after he was arrested, he told authorities that he was deliberately attempting to kill Mexicans. The case is being investigated as an act of domestic terror and potential hate crime.
AFP notes that Walmart announced in September changes to how it handles the sale of firearms and ammunitions. The retailer will no longer sell some &#8220;military-style&#8221; rifles, will no longer sell ammunition for handguns, and will bar customers from carrying weapons inside the store.
The Mexican government&#8217;s announcement of the lawsuit against Walmart came just two days after another <a href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2019/11/19/walmart-shooting-duncan-oklahoma-double-murder-suicide-domestic-dispute/4237436002/">shooting</a> at the retailer, this time in the parking lot of a store in Duncan, Oklahoma, where police say a man shot his wife and her boyfriend before turning the gun on himself.
Following the shooting, O&#8217;Rourke, a former congressman from El Paso, made mass shootings and gun control the center of his presidential campaign, which he ended on November 1 after failing to gain traction in the polls and fundraising. At the third Democratic debate in September, O&#8217;Rourke famously declared that, &#8220;Hell yes,&#8221; he is indeed calling for the confiscation of Americans&#8217; guns to prevent future mass shootings.
“Some on this stage have suggested a voluntary buyback for guns in this country,” ABC News host David Muir <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/beto-says-hell-yes-were-going-take-americans-guns-james-barrett">said</a> in comments directed to O’Rourke. “You have gone further. You said, quote, ‘Americans who own AR-15s and AK-47s will have to sell them to the government, all of them.’ You know the critics call this confiscation. Are you proposing taking away their guns and how would this work?”
“I am, if it is a weapon that was designed to kill people on a battlefield,” he said, the Democratic crowd erupting in applause even before he could add the “battlefield” qualifier.

Speaking on his program “The Late Late Show” on CBS, comedian James Corden said that  America needs to elect politicians with the &#8220;moral courage&#8221; to address gun laws.

Corden&#8217;s call for gun control in the wake of the shooting was just one voice among many on Thursday. As reported by <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/democrats-call-for-stricter-gun-control-mere-hours-after-shooting-at-california-high-school">The Washington Examiner</a>, Democrats were calling for gun control mere hours after the incident occurred.
&#8220;The obvious point is that part of what we all have to say is enough is enough, and we need reasonable gun safety laws in our country,&#8221; Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) said on CNN. &#8220;Stop with the nonsense.&#8221;
&#8220;We don’t yet have all the details of the horrifying events in Santa Clarita,&#8221; Mayor Pete Buttigieg tweeted. &#8220;But we do know that in America today, children are scared to go to school. Parents and teachers are terrified. And that can’t stand.&#8221;
&#8220;To me, it just says with complete and utter clarity, we don’t have a choice but to flip the Senate and to get somebody in the White House who is going to make this a priority,&#8221; said former Rep. Katie Hill (D-CA). &#8220;So, regardless of your other political beliefs, if you think that the safety of our kids matter, then that’s to me what needs to get you to the polls.”
Celebrities from Michael Moore to Alyssa Milano were pushing similar gun control messages in the wake of the shooting.

Democrats, Celebrities Push Gun Control Following Santa Clarita Shooting

Former Vice President Joe Biden claims in a newly released campaign video that he met with the families of all the victims of the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, but a victim&#8217;s brother disputed that claim on Wednesday.
&#8220;This issue of gun violence has been a concern of mine for a long, long time. What really got to me though really firsthand was what happened up at Sandy Hook,&#8221; Biden says in the video. &#8220;I think I met with every one of the parents and or the families of those who were lost — little kids.&#8221;
&#8220;I met with the police officers who investigated that. They had great difficulty handling what they saw, just going in and seeing those babies and it just enraged me,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;When I sat down with those parents — I&#8217;ve lost a child, not to gun violence [but] I&#8217;ve lost two children. It is the most devastating thing that could happen to a parent. But I can&#8217;t fathom, fathom how they must have felt.&#8221;
JT Lewis, who lost his six-year-old brother Jesse during the attack, challenged Biden&#8217;s claim by claiming that former President Barack Obama had met with each of the grieving families — and not Biden

Lewis later doubled down on his statement in a series of tweets criticizing the Democratic presidential candidate for falsely claiming to have experienced Sandy Hook firsthand while it was actually Obama who did so. He also harkened back to a previous claim that Biden made, where he stated that he met with the families of the deadly Parkland shooting in 2018. At the time, President Donald Trump was in office and Biden&#8217;s claim was quickly debunked.
&#8220;Joe Biden just claimed that he came to Sandy Hook after the shooting and met with every family who lost someone,&#8221; Lewis said. &#8220;It was actually Obama who did that, NOT Joe Biden.&#8221;
&#8220;Biden also thought he was VP when Parkland happened,&#8221; he added. &#8220;[Biden] is either a liar or he&#8217;s losing his mind.&#8221;
He also clarified that the Obama administration offered to fly the families of Sandy Hook victims to Washington, D.C. on Air Force One if they would lobby on behalf of gun control. Accordingly, Lewis, who is a staunch advocate of the Second Amendment, was not one of those selected.
Lewis announced in July that he would be running for a seat in the Connecticut State Senate in 2020. He stated that he was inspired to seek public office after Jesse was one of 20 first-graders murdered in the elementary school shooting in 2012.
Jesse is largely credited with saving the lives of many of his classmates. After the gunman&#8217;s firearm temporarily jammed, Jesse yelled for his classmates to run while he stayed behind and defended his teacher, according to law enforcement. Several students were able to escape before the gunman started firing again.
Biden&#8217;s campaign did not return The Daily Wire&#8217;s request for comment.
