Former NFL quarterback Tom Brady joked Tuesday that Egypt&#8217;s stunning World Cup collapse against Argentina may have surpassed the infamous &#8220;28-3&#8221; comeback from Super Bowl LI.

Brady took to social media minutes after Argentina rallied from a 2-0 deficit late in the second half to defeat Egypt 3-2 and advance to the World Cup quarterfinals. 
&#8220;Yeah so that might top 28-3,&#8221; Brady joked.
Brady’s reference to &#8220;28-3&#8221; is a nod to the Patriots&#8217; comeback from a 25-point second-half deficit against the Falcons, the largest comeback in Super Bowl history and Brady&#8217;s fifth Super Bowl win. 
Argentina entered the match as the favorite, but Egypt struck first just 15 minutes in, with Yasser Ibrahim scoring. The Egyptians carried a 1-0 lead into halftime before appearing to put the match away when Mostafa Zico scored after an earlier goal had been disallowed. 
On the brink of elimination, Argentina scored three times between the 79th minute and stoppage time. Cristian Romero began the comeback before Lionel Messi tied the match and Enzo Fernández scored the game-winner in the second minute of added time. 
The Egyptian collapse immediately drew comparisons to some of the biggest blown leads in sports history, including the Atlanta Falcons&#8217; infamous loss to Brady and the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LI. 
Brady&#8217;s post suggests Egypt&#8217;s collapse could rank alongside, or even surpass, the Falcons&#8217; meltdown as one of sports&#8217; greatest blown leads.  
The score &#8220;28-3&#8221; has become shorthand for spectacular collapses in sports and is often cited whenever a team &#8220;chokes&#8221; and squanders a seemingly insurmountable lead. Coincidentally, the match between Egypt and Argentina took place at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, home of the Falcons.

Ford is recalling more than 110,000 Mustang and Mustang Mach-E vehicles over two separate defects that could increase the risk of a crash, federal regulators announced on Tuesday.
The recalls affect 110,626 Mustang, Mustang GTD, and Mustang Mach-E vehicles. 
The larger recall covers 67,842 Mustang and Mustang GTD vehicles because the windshield wipers may malfunction in cold weather. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said that under certain conditions, the windshield wiper would operate only at its fastest setting, with the washer system not working at all. Both can reduce visibility, increasing the risk of a crash. 
The second recall affects 42,784 Mustang Mach-E models because the rear differential pinion shift may fracture. This could cause a loss in “drive power” or “unintended vehicle movement” if the vehicle is parked but the parking brake is not applied.
Ford said dealers will repair the affected vehicles free of charge. 
The recalls come one week after Ford recalled more than 741,000 SUVs and pickup trucks due to a transmission defect that could allow vehicles to roll away.

Toyota announced Monday that it would invest $3.6 billion to expand production of its Tacoma pickup truck in Texas, moving most of the model&#8217;s manufacturing from Mexico to the United States over the next four years. 
Toyota said the investment will expand its San Antonio plant and shift most Tacoma production from its Tijuana, Mexico, facility.
The expansion will increase annual production capacity by 150,000 vehicles. The company will add a second assembly line to support the Tacoma truck. 
President Donald Trump celebrated the company&#8217;s plans in a post on Truth Social Tuesday morning.
Production will shift over four years, with the Tijuana plant continuing to manufacture Tacomas during the transition before Texas becomes the main production site. The San Antonio plant currently produces Tundra pickups and Sequoia SUVs.
The investment follows Toyota&#8217;s <a href="https://global.toyota/en/newsroom/corporate/43553969.html">announcement</a> in November 2025 that it planned to invest up to $10 billion in additional U.S. investment over five years.
“Toyota’s continued investment in North America is a testament to our confidence in the region’s workforce, innovation and long-term growth potential,” said Ted Ogawa, President and CEO of Toyota Motor North America, on Monday.
Toyota joins other automakers shifting production to the United States in response to tariffs on imported vehicles and auto parts.
The nearly $4 billion expansion is estimated to create nearly 2,000 more on-site jobs in Texas.
“By expanding our San Antonio plant, we are deepening our commitment to American manufacturing, creating meaningful and sustainable jobs, while advancing our mission to deliver high-quality vehicles that meet the changing needs of customers today and into the future,” Ogawa said.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup showed a glimpse of what the future could hold for the United States Men’s National Team (USMNT), but the work of building on that success is only beginning.  
Hosting the World Cup brought unprecedented attention to soccer in the United States. Although the Americans were eliminated by Belgium in the round of 16, the tournament represented a significant step forward for Team USA. 
The Americans set several team records, scoring 11 goals in four matches and becoming the first U.S. men&#8217;s team to win three games at a single World Cup. Their 2-0 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina marked the team&#8217;s first knockout-stage win since 2002. 
The round of 16 match against Belgium drew nearly 67,000 fans to Seattle&#8217;s Lumen Field, reflecting the tournament&#8217;s popularity in the United States. As a co-host, the United States experienced packed stadiums and heightened interest. 
Much of the roster that fueled the U.S. World Cup run is expected to remain intact.
Christian Pulisic, 27, and Folarin Balogun, 25, are expected to remain the team&#8217;s attacking leaders. Balogun scored three goals during his first World Cup with the United States and is reportedly attracting interest from Premier League clubs. 
Midfielder Malik Tillman, 24, strengthened his case for a long-term role after scoring two impressive free kicks in the tournament. Tyler Adams and Weston McKennie are also expected to remain central figures in midfield.
Most of the other spots are up for grabs. Johnny Cardoso, Tanner Tessmann, and Diego Luna are expected to compete for roster spots the next time head coach Mauricio Pochettino picks his squad.
 More youth players are expected to push for the USMNT as well, with Zavier Gozo, Peyton Miller, and Adri Mehmeti all impressing in Major League Soccer.
Unlike 2026, when the United States qualified automatically as a host nation, the Americans will earn a place in the 2030 World Cup through the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) qualifying. 
The next chapter for the USMNT begins with World Cup qualifying, where the Americans will have to prove the momentum generated by their 2026 World Cup run was more than a one-tournament surge.

Favorites to advance, Belgium put the United States on its heels early when Charles De Ketelaere scored from point blank range in the ninth minute of play after the USMNT struggled to clear the ball from their own box. This was the story of the first half, as Belgium was winning the race to every ball.
After earning a free kick from just outside the penalty box, Malik Tillman scored in his second straight game. His shot bounced off a Belgian defender&#8217;s head and landed in the back of the net in the 31st minute, tying the game at one apiece.

The American celebrations did not last long. Just one minute after Tillman’s equalizer, De Ketelaere scored his second goal of the night with a header from another cross, exposing the USMNT’s defense.
A near-goal from Balogun at the end of the first half gave the United States hope, with the score only 2-1. The defensive miscues aside, the offense led by Balogun and Christian Pulisic showed enough flashes to score a potential tying goal.
Unfortunately, Team USA&#8217;s defensive collapse picked up where it left off in the 56th minute. American goalkeeper Matt Freese kicked the ground instead of the ball on what should have been a simple clearance outside the box for Team USA. Instead, it led to Hans Vanaken easily scoring from 34 yards out after defender and captain Tim Ream couldn’t make a play on it.

Freese’s blunder proved too much for the United States to recover from. They later conceded another goal when Belgium’s all-time scorer Romelu Lukaku scored in the third minute of added time in the second half, silencing the Seattle crowd.
Team USA will look back on the 2026 World Cup with a bad taste in their mouths following the disappointing exit to Belgium.
This marks the second loss the USMNT has taken against the Belgians in the last four World Cups. Belgium won 2-1 in extra time against the United States despite a record 16 saves from Tim Howard in 2014. Belgium advances to the quarterfinals, where they will take on Spain Friday afternoon.

Eric Obrokta pumped millions of dollars into The First Academy in Orlando, Florida, to turn it into a high school football powerhouse to benefit his son, but the scheme fell apart soon after it created a juggernaut.
Earlier this week, The Wall Street Journal <a href="https://www.wsj.com/sports/football/high-school-football-father-bankroll-54575983?st=dgh9oU&amp;reflink=desktopwebshare_permalink">reported</a> on the bizarre situation, which began two years ago in Orlando, Florida. The Journal interviewed numerous people connected to Obrokta&#8217;s academy for a story that depicts what went into the expensive operation, how it stood, and why it failed.
In 2024, Obrokta began funding “Central Florida’s #1 Private Christian School’s” football team to reach the likes of their other sports programs. This led to an influx of elite-athletes transferring into the high school, new uniforms, upper-echelon football technology, and hundreds of thousands of dollars in contracts for coaches. Despite this, all of the entrepreneur&#8217;s charity to the school blew up in his face.
To improve the team, Obrokta put up the funding for $300,000 that would go to coaches, nearly $100,000 in tuition for the athletes, $135,000 in travel expenses, and $50,000 worth of upgrades to technology. The total costs eventually reached millions of dollars.
TFA hired a new coach, Jeff Conaway, to a contract worth $230,000, all donated by Obrokta. After going 6-4, Obrokta was not satisfied, telling Conaway he wanted to “flip the script.&#8221;
TFA then hired Steven Moffett, a former quarterback for the University of Central Florida, worked with a non-contact 7-on-7 football team that high-tier high school football players would participate in during the offseason, giving him a leg-up in recruiting for the private school. Moffett was given a $70,000 contract.
TFA also convinced at least 25 high school students to transfer to the private school, set up a $75,000 trip to Nashville for TFA to play and beat Nashville’s prestigious football high school, Lipscomb Academy, purchased a $50,000 technology system for the program, and a went on a $60,000 summer road trip for the players to meet college coaches.
Obrokta also paid for many of the athletes’ tuition. The teenagers were struggling in classes, so TFA began admitting the players into the “hybrid-homeschool program” that was much cheaper for Obrokta to fund everyone.
With the improvements, The First Academy (TFA) began recruiting high school athletes from across the country to build a super team in Central Florida.
None of this went unnoticed, however. The Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) received complaints about how the school was operating. After investigating the situation, they discovered at least ten students were participating in summer football activities without being properly registered at the school and one who did not submit the correct paper work.
The FHSAA suspended every regular season win of its 2024 season, eliminating the team from playoff contention. TFA was also suspended for the 2025 playoffs.
Obrokta was not born with money. He explained that at 40, he was only earning $45,000 as a supervisor for a janitorial service company. From 2012-2022, he co-founded NPSG Global which was bringing in “hundreds of millions in annual revenue” according to the Journal. After spending over 300 days a year away from his family, he returned home and wanted his son to have whatever he wanted. 
“I wanted to feed whatever passion he had,” Obrotka told the paper.
That passion happened to be football, a sport that Florida specifically thrives in breeding athletes, but not TFA. Instead of being away from his son once more, he settled on turning the private Christian school his son attended into a juggernaut to help him play at a high level of college football.
But even before the FHSAA came knocking, Obrokta saw his scheme negatively affecting the main reason behind why he started it in the first place — his own son. TFA players told the Journal that Obrokta’s son was often teased that he would only play due to his father’s bank account. As the scheme continued, most of the athletes on the team became too talented for Obrokta&#8217;s son to compete for serious playing time.
“He loved him as a father, but hated being his son when it came to football,” the Journal wrote of the father-son relationship.
This was the moment it ended for Obrokta. He stopped giving money to the school, leading to a 5-5 season. His son transferred out of state to play for another team. What Obrokta thought would be a life-changing and perfect father-son moment ended in flames.
“Me being so close to the program created challenges for my son and we thought it would be best to start fresh,&#8221; he said.

The short-handed United States Men&#8217;s National Team (USMNT) will attempt to advance to the quarterfinals for the first time in more than two decades when it faces Belgium on Monday.
Team USA has not advanced beyond the Round of 16 at a World Cup since 2002. They are coming off their dominant 2-0 win against Bosnia and Herzegovina, which saw Folarin Balogun extend his lead in goals for the United States. However, he will not suit up for the red, white, and blue against Belgium.
Balogun picked up a controversial red card in the second half of the Round of 32 game after scoring a goal in the first 45 minutes. After Team USA was unable to appeal the red card, they will be forced to play without him in the upcoming game.
The USMNT will look past the controversial decision and will lean on players such as Christian Pulisic, Malik Tillman, and Weston McKennie.
Belgium, on the other hand, is coming off one of the craziest comebacks in the history of the World Cup. In their first knockout-stage game against Senegal, they were down 2-0 in the 85th minute. All-time leading goal scorer for the country, Romelu Lukaku, scored in the following minute, and was followed two minutes later by Youri Tielemans&#8217; tying goal.
After advancing to extra time, Tielemans scored the latest goal in World Cup history, converting a penalty in the fifth minute of stoppage time after the 120 mark.
The USMNT will also be seeking a measure of revenge against the Belgians after they eliminated the United States from the 2014 World Cup with a 2-1 extra-time win. Despite the loss, legendary goalkeeper Tim Howard had a historic match, setting the record for most saves in a single game with 16. The two Belgian goal scorers from that match, Kevin De Bruyne and Lukaku, are both expected to face the United States again on Monday.
If Team USA advances, it will face Spain or the winner of Thursday’s Croatia-Portugal match in the quarterfinals.

The United States Men’s National Team (USMNT) looks to continue its World Cup run Wednesday night when it faces Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Round of 32, its first knockout-stage match of the tournament. 
After winning two of its three group-stage matches and resting starters in a loss to Türkiye after already clinching Group D, the United States will attempt to earn its first World Cup knockout-stage victory since 2002. 
Team USA opened the tournament with a 4-1 win over Paraguay before defeating Australia 2-0 to secure the top spot in its group. The USMNT then fell 3-2 to Türkiye last Thursday with first place already secured. 
Folarin Balogun, who leads the United States in goals, Tyler Adams, Chris Richards, and Antonee Robinson all picked up yellow cards during the group stage. All four key players would have been suspended for the match against Bosnia if they had picked up another yellow card against Türkiye. All yellow cards were wiped clean at the start of the knockout stage. 
Star forward Christian Pulisic also benefited from additional rest after sustaining an injury in the first half against Paraguay. He missed the Australia match and played only the final 30 minutes against Türkiye. Pulisic said he is ready to play 90 minutes, or even a potential 120 minutes if Wednesday&#8217;s match goes to extra time.  
Captain Tim Ream also rested against Türkiye and is expected to return to the starting lineup alongside the other regular starters. 
Bosnia and Herzegovina placed third in Group B behind Switzerland and Canada with a 1-1-1 record and a minus-one goal differential. Its only win came against Qatar in the final group-stage match, securing the country&#8217;s first trip to the knockout stage in just its second World Cup appearance after debuting in 2014. 
The expanded 48-team World Cup added a Round of 32, giving the United States an opportunity to earn its first knockout-stage victory since its quarterfinal run 24 years ago. 
With a win on Wednesday night, the USMNT will advance to face the winner of the Belgium-Senegal match.

The Ford Motor Company has been hiring humans again after finding that artificial intelligence (AI) could not match the expertise of experienced technicians.  
Over the past three years, the second-largest U.S.-based automaker <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cgrkd41n2v9o">reportedly</a> said it rehired more than 300 &#8220;veteran&#8221; quality inspectors, including former Ford employees and engineers from other automotive suppliers, after automated systems fell short. 
“Over prior years, we didn’t pay as much attention as we should have to the experience of our most knowledgeable engineers that have been with us through many product cycles,” Ford Vice President of Vehicle Hardware Engineering Charles Poon said to reporters.
Ford&#8217;s renewed emphasis on experienced engineers coincided with improved vehicle quality. It <a href="https://www.fromtheroad.ford.com/us/en/articles/2026/ford-tops-jd-power-initial-quality-study">ranked</a> first among mainstream brands in the 2026 JD Power U.S. Initial Quality Study after placing 15th in 2023, a turnaround Ford has attributed to its renewed focus on experienced engineers.
The human employees were tasked with conducting mandatory weekly design reviews, identifying potential failure points in blueprints, and serving as internal auditors.
Ford had previously embraced AI across its operations. CEO Jim Farley predicted the technology would “leave a lot of white collar people behind,” while Chief Operating Officer Kumar Galhorta said AI would be used “across the entire industrial system.”
Ford&#8217;s plans included installing 900 AI-powered cameras in manufacturing plants and expanding AI-assisted engineering tools meant to tackle &#8220;quality issues&#8221; in the production process. But Poon said those systems fell short. 
“Mistakenly, we thought that by just introducing artificial intelligence and ingesting the design requirements that we had, that would produce a high-quality product,” Poon said.
Poon said AI remains &#8220;a fantastic tool,&#8221; but emphasized the technology is &#8220;only as good as the information you use to train it.&#8221;

International soccer powerhouses Germany and the Netherlands had their trophy-hoisting aspirations cut short during the round of 32 on Monday.
During the first full day of knockout stage games in the 2026 World Cup, two of the favorites to win this year’s tournament were upset, with both falling in penalty kicks after they were tied through regulation and extra time.
Germany was heavily favored in its first round matchup against Paraguay, with everyone writing off Paraguay due to its lack of offensive prowess.

The Germans responded early in the second half thanks to Kai Havertz in the 54th minute. These were the only two goals of the regulation time, as they became the first teams in the 2026 tournament to play in extra time.
After a back-and-forth first half of extra time, Germany thought they broke through and scored a potential game-winning goal from a Jonathan Tah header. After a review, however, the referees made a highly controversial call, stating that a German player pushed the goalie to the ground, disallowing the goal.
Many fans were outraged by the call.

After staying 1-1 through extra time, the game headed to penalties. The hero for Germany in the second half quickly turned into the villain, as Havertz’s first penalty attempt was blocked by Paraguay’s Orlando Gill. Havertz’s penalty was one of three missed by Germany, leading to Paraguay’s upset win in penalties 4-3.

Prior to the match against Paraguay, Germany had only missed one penalty in the history of the World Cup, which was in the 1982 semifinals. Havertz, Tah, and Nick Woltemade extended the list to four misses.
Paraguay will play either France or Sweden in the round of 16.
The Netherlands was the second giant to fall when they took on Morocco in the last game of the day on Monday. Both national teams had impressive group stage results, which led to them standing strong and holding each other to a 0-0 draw at the end of the first 45 minutes. 
The final 20 minutes of regulation saw all the action. Forward Cody Gakpo scored an emotional lead-taking goal in the 72nd minute and collapsed in tears after scoring. Just two days before the match, it was announced that Gakpo had lost his unborn son, but still suited up for the Dutch on Monday night.

The trend of late stunning goals in the tournament continued, as Issa Diop of Morocco tied the game in the first minute of injury time in the second half, setting up back-to-back games heading to extra time.
Despite great saves from both sides in extra time, the Netherlands and Morocco didn’t have any disallowed goal drama before another round of penalties. In the penalty shootout, both countries saw numerous shots rattle off the crossbar. The most bizarre attempt was by Soufiane Rahimi, where, after it was initially saved by the Netherlands, it still rolled in.

That goal was the defining moment for Morocco, as it won 3-2 on penalties. Morocco will play Canada in the next round.
While Brazil advanced against Japan in the first game of the day, the South American powerhouse almost joined the Dutch and Germans in heading home early. 
Japan was the only country to get on the board in the first half, as Kaishū Sano scored in the 29th minute, surprising the mostly South American crowd in Houston. Brazil was able to equalize thanks to defensive midfielder Casemiro heading in a goal during the 56th minute, his second career World Cup goal for his country. 
After it looked like the two countries were heading towards extra time, Brazil’s Gabriel Martinelli became a hero for his country in the fifth added minute of regulation.

Brazil will take on the winner of the Ivory Coast and Norway, the first matchup in Tuesday’s slate. Following that, France will look to advance toward a potential World Cup final for the third straight tournament as it takes on Sweden. Lastly, Mexico will be the second tournament host to play in the round of 32 as it faces Ecuador.

Shocking World Cup Upsets Define First Full Day Of Knockout Stage

The Department of Justice on Monday detailed the indictments of former NBA players Malik Beasley and Edward Davis, current player agent Paolo Zamorano, and three other defendants in relation to another sports gambling conspiracy.
The indictments come exactly one year after federal authorities announced Beasley was being investigated over allegations of gambling off his own performances during the 2023-24 NBA season with the Milwaukee Bucks after one sportsbook detected “unusually heavy betting interest” on his own stats, <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/45608949/sources-pistons-malik-beasley-subject-federal-gambling-probe">according</a> to ESPN.
“As alleged, the defendants turned professional basketball into a criminal betting operation,” U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York Joseph Nocella Jr. <a href="https://www.justice.gov/usao-edny/pr/former-national-basketball-association-players-current-player-agent-and-three-other">said in the statement</a>. “Bribing then-NBA player Malik Beasley to fix his performance in multiple games in order to place fraudulent wagers, enrich themselves and cheat legitimate sportsbooks.”
Along with the players and agent, William Brown, Robert Gorodetsky, and Ernesto Plascencia were named co-conspirators. Beasley and Davis’ connection goes back to when the two were teammates on the Minnesota Timberwolves. Zamorano was Davis&#8217; agent and has several other clients currently active in the NBA. Texts between the two athletes in 2023 allegedly reveal details about the gambling scandal.
“Only way you can beat Vegas is sports betting,” Davis allegedly texted Beasley, according to the indictment. “We can make some good money.&#8221;
Three specific examples of the ploy were provided in the DOJ statement.
The first was January 26, 2024, against the Cleveland Cavaliers, in which Beasley told Davis that he intended to “underperform with respect to rebounding.&#8221; Davis allegedly relayed this information to other defendants, who placed wagers on his rebounding statistic, according to the indictment.
The next alleged incident occurred on February 27, 2024, against the Charlotte Hornets. Beasley allegedly stated he would overperform in rebounding but underperform in points. Davis again relayed the non-public information to the co-conspirators, where they won their wagers. The final one mentioned occurred just weeks later, on March 10, 2024, against the Los Angeles Clippers.
Wagers placed on these three allegations totaled “hundreds of thousands of dollars,” with some wagers being $75,000, according to <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/49215856/former-nba-players-malik-beasley-ed-davis-indicted-gambling-case">ESPN</a>.
The former shooting guard has not appeared in an NBA game since the 2024-25 season, when he was slated to earn a $42 million free-agent deal before being investigated.
Beasley and Davis join Terry Rozier, Damon Jones, and Chauncey Billups as the latest former NBA players to face charges regarding gambling-related allegations.
This is not Beasley’s first run-in with the law. As a member of the Timberwolves during the 2020-21 season, Beasley was sentenced to 120 days in jail after pleading guilty to a felony count of threats of violence. Under the plea deal, the felony drug charges he was also facing from the incident were dropped.
Brown, Davis, Gorodetsky, and Plascencia have all been arrested across several locations. At the time of publication, Beasley and Zamorano are still not in custody. If found guilty, each defendant could face up to 20 years on a wire fraud conspiracy count, 20 years on a money laundering conspiracy count, and five years on bribery in sporting contests.
