A mother who&#8217;s on trial for murdering her three young children wrote diary entries about her worsening postpartum mental health and told clinicians she thought she was experiencing severe side effects from the psychiatric medications she was prescribed.
“I’m so desperate to get a mental break from taking care of everyone that my mind is trying to find something physically wrong with me,” <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/lindsay-clancy-strangled-her-three-children-why-some-people-want-her-set-free?author=Amanda+Prestigiacomo&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=1&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Lindsay+Clancy+Strangled+Her+Three+Children.+Why+Some+People+Want+Her+Set+Free.">Lindsay Clancy</a> wrote in November 2022. Clancy fatally attacked her children on January 24, 2023.
“I want help. I want to be well,” she said in another entry. She also said she felt “incredibly sad and guilty” about being unable to breastfeed her youngest child and was “obsessed” with his sleep schedule.
“I have crazy brain fog. I feel like I can’t make a plan,” Clancy wrote. “I live moment to moment waiting for the next nap time. I’m terrified of Cal getting overtired now because I feel I can’t help him.”
Additionally, Clancy&#8217;s defense team said that in December the mother told a crisis service that she believed her symptoms were side effects from psychiatric medications she had been prescribed.
In the months leading up to the incident, Clancy was prescribed numerous medications, including Zoloft, Ativan, Benadryl, trazodone, Prozac, Ambien, Remeron, Klonopin, Seroquel, Valium, and amitriptyline, with doctors changing or adjusting her medications over time as her symptoms persisted.
Several of the psychiatric medications listed potential side effects, including agitation, insomnia, suicidal thoughts, confusion, and — in rare cases — hallucinations or psychotic symptoms. According to court filings, Clancy’s medication regimen changed multiple times during the fall and winter of 2022.
Clancy does not dispute that she strangled her three young children — 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 8-month-old Callan — inside the family’s home in Duxbury, Massachusetts, in January 2023 after her then-husband left to pick up takeout food and medication. Prosecutors say Clancy then attempted suicide by jumping from a second-story window after cutting both of her wrists. All three children died, and Clancy was left paralyzed from the waist down.
Earlier this week, the defense team tried to counter the state&#8217;s argument that Clancy was organized and calculating in her actions and therefore not clinically insane. Dr. Sejal Shah, who testified as a rebuttal witness for the defense and is a forensic psychiatrist, <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/lindsay-clancy-defense-scores-extremely-helpful-psychosis-concession-expert-flags-next-hurdle">agreed</a> with the defense that “people can communicate and plan and act on plans even if they&#8217;re in the middle of a psychosis.”
Shah also agreed that someone does not have to be &#8220;drooling and stumbling and unable to walk and talk&#8221; in order to be psychotic.
Clancy has many public supporters who believe she should be treated by medical professionals and avoid jail time, citing what they see as the medical system&#8217;s failure, particularly given that Clancy was newly postpartum when her symptoms first appeared. Others have acknowledged the unhealthy and sometimes dangerous reliance on pills and medications to treat mental health struggles while still believing Clancy needs to be held accountable for killing three innocent children.
A jury is expected to render a verdict by the end of August or early September.

Authorities have identified the gunman who killed three people during Saturday&#8217;s shooting at an In-N-Out Burger in Twin Falls, Idaho, and investigators are still working to determine what motivated the attack.
Twin Falls Police on Sunday identified the lone suspect as 24-year-old Chad Williams, who authorities say took his own life after opening fire at the newly-opened restaurant. Police said three people were killed and seven others were wounded in the shooting, which erupted on Saturday around 2:30 p.m. local time at the In-N-Out location that had opened just over a week ago.
Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks said Sunday that two of the wounded victims have since been treated and released from the hospital, while two remain in critical condition and three others are listed in stable condition. Hicks cautioned that those figures remain preliminary as the investigation continues.
Authorities have not yet publicly identified the three people killed because family notifications are still being completed.

A heroic bystander jumped into the fray on Saturday, shooting back when someone opened fire in the drive-thru at an In-N-Out Burger restaurant in Twin Falls, Idaho.
In video that circulated after the shooting, the gunman was walking in the drive-thru firing at cars as he approached the window. Within a few seconds, a second gun could be heard engaging the shooter, who quickly ran for cover in some nearby bushes.

According to witness Lane Koehn, the hero bystander had identified himself as a former paramedic — and had given In-N-Out employees and other customers valuable time to escape by engaging the suspect and keeping him distracted. Koehn had been at a nearby stoplight when he saw the shooter walking toward cars in the drive-thru, and saw the second man pull out a handgun and shoot back.
Koehn, 34, told reporters that he&#8217;d seen one In-N-Out employee being dragged away from the scene, saying that he&#8217;d joined the armed citizen in waiting with the injured employee until first responders arrived.
&#8220;She was pretty bad off, but I don’t know. I hope she made it,&#8221; he told KPTV FOX 12.
&#8220;People were running out crying and screaming. It was very scary,” Haley Dodaro said in a text message to The Associated Press. She and her mother had been in the drive-thru line when people began running from the restaurant.
The In-N-Out restaurant had only opened one week earlier, on July 24, as the chain only recently expanded into Idaho.
In total, three were killed in the shooting — including one employee — and several more were injured. In-N-Out President Lynsi Snyder issued a statement following the tragedy.

According to eyewitness accounts, the confrontation began when Metcalf told Anthony to leave his team&#8217;s tented area during the track event. It&#8217;s unclear if Metcalf touched Anthony at all before the stabbing. Witnesses told investigators that Anthony then pulled out a knife, threatened Metcalf, and stabbed him. Metcalf later died in his twin brother&#8217;s arms.
Anthony admitted to police that he stabbed Metcalf, reportedly telling officers, &#8220;I&#8217;m not alleged, I did it.&#8221;
Jeff Metcalf, Austin&#8217;s father, said after Anthony was indicted last year that he&#8217;s confident justice will be served.

“At that point, I tell the children, ‘get with me, get up, let’s start backing up,’” Jauregui told <a href="https://wjla.com/news/local/navy-yard-brawl-comes-after-us-attorney-pirros-promised-crackdown-on-teen-takeovers">ABC7 News</a>. “And then it was like an ambush.”

She vowed to prosecute not only the teens involved but, in some cases, their parents. “If you know where your teen is and what they are doing and allow them to continue their conduct and continue to allow them to flourish, we’re going to prosecute you,” Pirro said. Jauregui said he supports that approach, arguing the violence went far beyond teenagers “messing around.”
“[I’m] in line with what the U.S. Attorney is trying to do,” he said. “This is next level. A gunman who appeared to be targeting his own &#8220;descendants&#8221; opened fire in three different homes across the city of Shreveport, Louisiana, on Saturday night — and was shot and killed after he attempted to carjack a vehicle in order to escape.
The suspect in the horrific murder spree was identified later in the day as 31-year-old U.S. Army veteran Shamar Elkins.
According to a <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/04/19/us-news/8-kids-ages-1-to-14-killed-in-mass-shootings-across-shreveport-louisiana/">report</a> published Sunday by The New York Post, Elkins shot ten people, eight of them fatally, in two homes on one street and one other home on a nearby street. The two survivors were adult women, and all eight of the deceased were children ranging in age from one year old to 14 years old. Some of the children are believed to be his.
&#8220;The individual responsible once leaving this scene performed a carjacking right here in close proximity to the corner of West 79th and Lynnwood, at which point in time, Shreveport police patrol officers got behind that vehicle in a chase incident,&#8221; Shreveport Police Department spokesperson Christopher Bordelon said during a press conference. The suspect was shot and killed by police.

The video appears to show someone else opening the door, allowing the former student into the building. The suspect then walks into the lobby, briefly hiding behind a vending machine before stepping into view. Just as he approached an office door, the door opened, and Moore barreled toward him.

Moore ducked his head and shoulders as he ran, hitting the suspect in the chest with his full weight and tackling him onto a nearby bench, pinning him there. Moore was shot in the leg at some point during the scuffle.
Another man, identified later as Moore&#8217;s assistant principal, ran out of the same office seconds later. Assessing the situation, he quickly knocked the handgun away from the suspect, then picked it up and secured it inside the office.
The two men restrain the suspect — identified as former student Victor Lee Hawkins, 20, until law enforcement arrives and takes him into custody.
Moore released a lengthy statement after the shooting, thanking local law enforcement and first responders for their support and the community for their prayers and well-wishes.

Principal Kirk Moore leapt into action when an armed former student walked into his school on Tuesday and opened fire, sustaining a bullet wound to the leg as he worked to disarm and then restrain him.
Moore, principal of Pauls Valley High School in Oklahoma, was the only person injured when former student Victor Hawkins, 20, entered the school on Tuesday afternoon armed with two semi-automatic handguns and immediately told everyone to &#8220;get on the ground.&#8221;
According to local NBC affiliate <a href="https://kfor.com/news/local/affidavit-pauls-valley-school-shooting-suspect-inspired-by-columbine-tried-to-shoot-multiple-students-before-shooting-principal/">KFOR</a>, Hawkins pointed a gun at a student in the entryway and pulled the trigger, but his firearm malfunctioned and he ducked behind a nearby vending machine in order to clear it. When he stepped out again, he fired at another student — but he missed, and the student put his hands in the air and asked him not to shoot again.
Hawkins, according to the report, then lowered his gun and told both students to get out — and they ran for the exit.
Upon hearing the commotion and the gunfire, Principal Moore came out of his office — and Hawkins fired again. Moore confronted the shooter directly and wrestled the firearm away, but took a bullet to the leg in the process. He and his assistant principal restrained Hawkins by lying on top of him, and were able to keep him restrained until law enforcement arrived.
Moore was flown to Oklahoma University Health in Oklahoma City, where he was treated for a gunshot wound to his leg and is expected to make a full recovery.
Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) investigators interviewed the suspect, who said that his intent had been to shoot students, members of the faculty, and eventually himself. The firearms — which he had stolen from a closet — and the truck he had driven to the school belonged to his father.
In the interview, Hawkins also stated that he had intended to kill Principal Moore specifically, and that he&#8217;d &#8220;wanted to conduct his own school shooting like the Columbine shooters did.&#8221;
Hawkins was arrested and <a href="https://www.koco.com/article/victor-hawkins-pauls-valley-high-school-shooting-columbine-court/70966929">charged</a> with shooting with intent to kill, two counts of pointing a firearm and two counts of unlawful carry. He was booked at the Garvin County Jail, where he is being held on $1 million bond.

The suspect in a brutal killing outside a Fort Myers, Florida, gas station has been captured, becoming another statistic in the national immigration debate, after federal officials confirmed the suspect had been released into the United States and later shielded from deportation.
Rolbert Joachim, a Haitian national, is accused of murdering Nilufa Easmin, known to friends and family as Yasmeen, by bludgeoning her with a hammer outside the Chevron station where she worked. The attack, captured on surveillance video, unfolded in broad daylight.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, Joachim first entered the U.S. in August 2022 and was “caught and released” at the border. Later that same year, an immigration judge issued a final order of removal against him. But instead of being deported, DHS says he was allowed to remain in the country under Temporary Protected Status, which expired in 2024.
“This illegal alien barbarically hit this woman in the head multiple times with a hammer,” said Acting DHS Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis. “This heinous murderer was released into the country by the Biden administration. Not only did the administration release him, but they then gave him temporary protected status. Their reckless immigration policies cost this woman her life.”
Surveillance footage shows Joachim allegedly smashing a car windshield in the gas station parking lot. That vehicle, according to coworkers, belonged to Easmin. Moments later, she walked outside to confront him. He then rushed toward her and struck her in the head with a hammer. She collapsed, and investigators say he struck her repeatedly again.
Police launched an intensive manhunt, ultimately locating Joachim nearby. “I would just say one word — persistence,” a Fort Myers police official said. “We were not going home until we found him. We had a cop on every single block in the last confirmed area, and we used every resource — from aviation support to canine units to boots on the ground.”
Joachim is now in custody and being held without bond. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has placed a detainer on him, and DHS says he will be deported following the resolution of his case.
Neighbors described her as kind, devout, and consistent in her daily routine. “She was good,” said M.D. Islam, a local man who knew her. “She came and did her prayer in the morning … just minutes before the attack.”

A growing memorial now sits outside the gas station on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Highland Avenue, where flowers and candles mark the place where Easmin was killed.
But alongside mourning, the case is raising broader questions, particularly about how an individual ordered deported was able to remain in the country.
