Dr. Avram Mack, a rebuttal witness for the prosecution in Lindsay Clancy&#8217;s murder trial, is reportedly &#8220;no longer employed&#8221; at Nemours Children&#8217;s Health in Delaware.
CT Insider <a href="https://www.ctinsider.com/news/article/lindsay-clancy-expert-avram-mack-nemours-22407460.php?utm_campaign=CMS%20Sharing%20Tools%20(Premium)&amp;utm_source=t.co&amp;utm_medium=referral">reported</a> that as of Friday, the psychiatrist — who got into several heated exchanges with defense attorney Kevin Reddington during his testimony — was no longer associated with Nemours Children&#8217;s Health. Nemours later clarified that Mack resigned from the position on Monday — the same day his cross-examination concluded.
Mack, who trained at Columbia and has largely practiced child and adolescent psychiatry, was pressed by Reddington during cross-examination on his limited experience evaluating adult patients.
&#8220;Dr. Avram Mack is no longer employed by Nemours Children&#8217;s Health,&#8221; a spokesperson told the outlet, but did not go into detail, adding, &#8220;employment decisions are confidential.&#8221;
The Daily Wire independently confirmed that a directory search for Mack&#8217;s name on the Nemours website came up empty.
Mack&#8217;s resume, which he submitted when he testified in the Clancy trial, stated that he had been employed at Nemours Children&#8217;s Health in the Delaware Valley since 2023.
Mack, during the trial, argued for the prosecution that Clancy should be held criminally responsible for the strangulation of her three young children despite conceding that she was, at the time, &#8220;in a serious psychiatric state and she was suffering.&#8221;
Mack testified that he did not consider <a href="https://postpartum.net/perinatal-mental-health/">postpartum</a>-specific conditions in his evaluation of Clancy, citing guidelines that limit the postpartum period to four weeks after birth — a definition Reddington and other experts in the case have disputed, with some testimony putting the window at a year or more.
He also stated that he had not observed any evidence of &#8220;manic&#8221; episodes, leading him to believe that Clancy was not suffering from bipolar disorder — and said that some of the fears she&#8217;d expressed were well within the range of what would be considered normal. Fears that something might happen to one of her children, for example, or that someone might take her children away, were fears that many mothers have especially early in their children&#8217;s lives.
Mack and Reddington argued over the typical timeframe for postpartum depression and psychosis — as well as the definition of &#8220;postpartum&#8221; — during the trial. At one point, after Mack appeared to smile, Reddington scolded him: &#8220;What are you smiling for? This is not funny, sir.&#8221;
Psychiatrist Dr. Phillip Resnick, a witness for the defense, testified to almost the complete opposite scenario. Saying that he believed Clancy to be &#8220;frankly psychotic,&#8221; Resnick said he believed that Clancy had experienced &#8220;command hallucinations&#8221; in which she heard a male voice instructing her to harm her children.
Other testimony questioned the fact that she&#8217;d only heard the voice for a brief period of time — an atypical presentation — and that it had stopped as soon as she&#8217;d finished strangling the children.
Dr. Gregory Saathoff, who interviewed Clancy in May and June of 2026, also commented on the fact that Clancy had piled on extra errands to ensure that her husband, Patrick Clancy, would be away from the house longer.
The prosecution <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2026/08/28/us/lindsay-clancy-jury-deliberations">closed its case</a> by arguing that Clancy had &#8220;acted intentionally, rationally and swiftly&#8221; when she took her children&#8217;s lives.
&#8220;I’m not saying she was happy about it. I’m saying, it was what she had to do to end her misery,” prosecutor Jennifer Sprague said. &#8220;But it was a choice. It was a choice.&#8221;
Reddington attempted to hang Clancy&#8217;s condition on the psychiatric medication she&#8217;d been prescribed — some of which she reportedly either did not take at all or did not take reliably — saying that she&#8217;d been failed by the system &#8220;because of the damn medicine and the lousy medical care that she got.&#8221;
The jury deliberated for about three-and-a-half hours on Thursday and roughly seven hours on Friday. They are expected to resume deliberations on Monday. If they find Clancy criminally responsible for the murders, she will likely face life in prison without the possibility of parole. If the jury finds her not guilty by reason of lack of criminal responsibility, prosecutors can petition the court to have her remanded to a psychiatric facility.

A dust-up in Pennsylvania over sentencing guidelines has lawmakers raising alarms about a potential judge-sanctioned prison break for murderers. 
Judges in Pennsylvania no longer have to impose a mandatory minimum prison sentence on criminals convicted of murder while committing robbery, rape, or arson. That happened because lawmakers failed to pass new guidelines after the Pennsylvania Supreme Court struck down the previous standards requiring murderers to be sentenced to life in prison without parole. 
“We sit here with no sentencing guidelines currently for felony murder. Nobody&#8217;s exactly sure how that&#8217;s going to play out,” Pennsylvania House Republican Leader Jesse Topper told The Daily Wire. “There has to be at least a minimum accountability standard for them in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, or else we simply have stopped valuing human life in the same way.”
Law-and-order advocates worry the lapse in guidelines could lead to soft-on-crime judges imposing light sentences and to early release for the over 1,000 murderers currently imprisoned who now can argue their sentence was unconstitutional. 
“The new Democratic socialist movement is making no bones about what they support: no prisons, no minimums for crimes. And they&#8217;re not big fans of law enforcement,” Topper told The Daily Wire. “It just seems to be the radicals are driving the conversation on this issue and that party.”
The issue looms politically large for potential 2028 Democratic presidential candidate Governor Josh Shapiro and the upcoming House elections, which are crucial for control of Congress. Many Democrats have backed away from their 2020-era push to defund the police, but the issue remains a focus of many GOP campaigns.
Topper fears that many of those currently behind bars for second-degree murder will capitalize on the court’s ruling to try to get out of prison. 
“The greatest danger is that you will have current murderers sitting in prison, being able to appeal their sentencing,” he said. “I do believe that you could be in a scenario where there will be judges who use this as an opportunity to kind of impose their ideology, and so letting people out of jail that don&#8217;t belong out of jail, and certainly don&#8217;t belong back on the streets.”
Under Pennsylvania law, second-degree murder is <a href="https://www.palegis.us/statutes/consolidated/view-statute?txtType=HTM&amp;ttl=18&amp;div=00.&amp;chpt=025.&amp;sctn=002.&amp;subsctn=000.">defined</a> as being “committed while defendant was engaged as a principal or an accomplice in the perpetration of a felony,” which is listed to include the crimes of robbery, rape, arson, burglary, or kidnapping.
Shapiro <a href="https://x.com/GovernorShapiro/status/2037166490252726403?lang=en">praised</a> the Pennsylvania Supreme Court’s decision in March 2026 to strike down mandatory life-without-parole sentencing requirements. He called it a “common sense” ruling because the law held accomplices and the person who committed the murder to the same standard. 
In the decision, the court gave the General Assembly a 120-day deadline to come up with new sentencing guidelines. While the Republican-controlled Senate passed a bipartisan proposal one month before the deadline, the Democrat-controlled House did not vote on the guidelines until the very last minute. 
The Senate passed a bipartisan bill in June that <a href="https://www.palegis.us/legislation/bills/text/PDF/2025/0/SB1400/PN1834">included</a> a 35-year minimum sentence for those convicted of second-degree murder. The bill also included provisions allowing for judges to impose a life-without-parole sentence in certain circumstances, including if the murder involved rape. The proposal <a href="https://www.palegis.us/senate/roll-calls/summary?sessYr=2025&amp;sessInd=0&amp;rcNum=445&amp;sort=party">passed</a> the Senate 31-19 on June 23 with 26 Republicans in support and five Democrats. 
One month later, and just one day before the deadline, the Democrat-controlled House voted on a significantly altered proposal from the version passed by the Senate. 
Republicans <a href="https://x.com/VoteMartinaPA/status/2084399064775348255?s=20">said</a> the amended bill contained a “poison pill” that gave judges broad discretionary power to give murderers light sentences for vaguely defined medical purposes. The bill passed the House 102-100 with support from just one Republican. The GOP-controlled Senate has no plans to pass the House version, leaving the sentencing guidelines at a standstill. 
Topper told The Daily Wire that he believed the Senate version would have passed the House without amendments if leadership had allowed it to receive a vote. He said Democratic leadership wanted to appeal to the more radical wing of their caucus. Topper also believes Shapiro would have signed the Senate’s version had it made it unscathed through the House.
Democrat House Majority Leader Matthew Bradford did not respond to a request for comment. 
“I believe it would have ultimately been signed into law by the governor,” Topper said. “The governor needs to show some leadership if he wanted that Senate bill to pass… it&#8217;s incumbent upon him to make sure members of his own party are in line with what he believes and values.”
When asked by The Daily Wire if the governor would have signed the Senate version, Shapiro’s office recycled a statement from last month in which he called for Republicans to support the House version. 
“Our state Supreme Court took the right action declaring that law unconstitutional and gave our state Legislature time to address those who are serving life sentences for second degree murder,” he said. “While some have played politics and suggested 1,100 people could be immediately released from prison — that is simply not true. It’s time to end the politicization and demagoguery and instead work to provide individualized sentencing within a predictable and consistent framework.”
Some Republicans believe the issue will be an issue focused on as the November election approaches. Reilly Richardson, a spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee, told The Daily Wire that crime will be a major focus as the November election approaches with numerous contested seats on the line. 
Multiple incumbent House Republicans, including Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, Rep. Rob Bresnahan, Rep. Scott Perry, and Rep. Ryan Mackenzie, are being targeted by Democrats for potential seat flips. 
“Democrats’ soft-on-crime policies have been nothing short of disastrous in Pennsylvania,” Richardson said. “Now, they’re trying to send those same disastrous policies to Congress by nominating far-left candidates who are backed and bankrolled by groups who want to defund the police.”

NYPD officers shot and killed a man who police say charged at them with a butcher knife inside a Lower East Side apartment building Sunday afternoon, according to police.
Officers responded to the building around 4 p.m. following multiple 911 calls reporting a domestic dispute, assault, and a person armed with a weapon. When officers arrived, they found blood on the stairs inside the building, according to authorities.
As officers followed the blood trail up the stairwell, they encountered a man carrying a large butcher knife. Police repeatedly ordered the man to show his hands and drop the weapon, but he continued moving toward the officers, according to the NYPD.
Officers first deployed a Taser, which had no effect. They then fired at least four times, striking the man in the chest, police said. The man was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to <a href="https://abc7ny.com/post/police-shoot-man-charged-nypd-officer-knife-lower-east-side-sources-say/19688831/">ABC7</a>. He was later identified as 54-year-old Wei Chan. Police recovered the knife at the scene.
A second man, 75-year-old Cheung Chan, was found inside the building with a laceration to the head. Police identified him as Chan&#8217;s father and said the injury was inflicted by his son. He is expected to survive. It was not immediately clear whether the wound came from the knife or another object, <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/08/16/us-news/knife-wielding-nyc-maniac-shot-critically-injured-after-charging-at-cops/">per</a> the New York Post.
Four responding officers suffered minor injuries and were taken to NewYork-Presbyterian, <a href="https://pix11.com/news/local-news/nypd-involved-shooting-on-lower-east-side-sends-6-to-hospital-officials/">according</a> to police and fire officials.
A patron at a nearby bar <a href="https://www.amny.com/news/breaking-news-nypd-lower-east-side/">told</a> amNewYork that he saw crews performing CPR on a man as they carried him out of the building on a stretcher and into an ambulance.
The circumstances leading up to the confrontation remain under investigation.

A 19-year-old man was arrested Saturday in connection with a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/multiple-people-shot-at-virginia-state-university">shooting that wounded five people</a> at Virginia State University after authorities found him hiding inside a campus dormitory closet, police said.
Camron Harris of Henrico, Virginia, was found hiding in a closet inside Seward Hall at approximately 4 p.m., more than 14 hours after the shooting erupted near university residence halls early Saturday morning, <a href="https://apnews.com/article/virginia-state-university-shooting-campus-lockdown-783d5190d7fe0818fc27a98123311dc3">according</a> to the Associated Press. Harris is not a student at Virginia State University.

Police obtained eight felony warrants for Harris: four counts of malicious wounding and four counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony. He was taken to the Chesterfield County Jail and is being held without bond. Authorities said additional charges may be filed, <a href="https://www.wtvr.com/news/local-news/chesterfield-county/henrico-teen-camron-harris-arrested-vsu-shooting-aug-15-2026">according</a> to WTVR.
The shooting occurred at approximately 1:28 a.m. Saturday near the university&#8217;s residence halls. Officers responding to the scene found five people suffering from gunshot wounds. One victim, a 21-year-old man who is not a VSU student, remains in critical condition. The other four victims, ranging in age from 17 to 23, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Only one — a 20-year-old who has since been released from the hospital — is a VSU student.
The university initially warned that the shooting involved &#8220;multiple suspects,&#8221; and the campus was placed on lockdown as police searched for those responsible. The lockdown was later lifted after authorities determined there was no immediate threat to the university community. Police said Sunday that they were still seeking additional people who fired weapons and were working to determine whether they had acted in self-defense or were among the aggressors, the AP <a href="https://apnews.com/article/virginia-state-university-shooting-investigation-b764bc5499e57be36d798002ab3544ff">reported</a>.
Chesterfield County Police are leading the investigation with assistance from other law enforcement agencies, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Police have not announced a motive for the shooting. Virginia State University, a historically black public university located in Ettrick, Virginia, has approximately 5,700 students. The shooting occurred two days before fall classes were scheduled to begin Monday. Continuing students were returning to campus Friday as incoming students concluded orientation activities.
The university&#8217;s &#8220;New Trojans Experience&#8221; for incoming students concluded Friday and included remarks from former NFL quarterback Cam Newton. The shooting also follows several previous incidents of gun violence on or near the Virginia State campus. The university experienced multiple lockdowns related to gunfire in 2024. In 2025, one person was shot near a campus basketball court, while another man was killed in a parking lot near the university, <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2026/08/15/five-people-shot-virginia-state-university/">according</a> to The Washington Post.
The investigation into Saturday&#8217;s shooting remains ongoing.

Three family members are facing charges in New York City for attempting to carry out a gang-related hit outside the Bronx Criminal Court in late June.
Reputed &#8220;Slutty Gang&#8221; member Chase Lackard, 20, was charged in the attempted hit of a member of rival gang P. Laafay. His mother, 49-year-old former Mount Vernon Deputy Police Commissioner Jennifer Lackard, was arrested with him on Tuesday and charged as an accomplice. His father, <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/08/06/us-news/ex-con-husband-of-ny-police-bigwig-in-custody-after-familys-drive-by-gang-shooting/">James Lackard</a>, 47 — an ex-con who did time on drug charges — turned himself in on Thursday.
According to a series of <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/08/04/us-news/ny-police-bigwig-was-getaway-driver-for-goon-son-in-gangland-shooting-sources/">reports</a> published by The New York Post, both Jennifer and James helped their gang-banging son to plan and then carry out the attempted hit on June 29. After dropping mother and son off at the criminal court building, James drove around the area and returned to pick them up.
Text messages from that timeframe showed Jennifer helping Chase work out how to carry out the next part of their plan.
&#8220;Be directly in Fromt (sic) When I Leave,&#8221; Chase told his mother in a text message.
&#8220;When? … You can’t just sit directly outside. It has to be timed right,&#8221; she said in response.
When they left the building, according to court documents, Chase got into the back seat and his mother rode in the passenger seat. They circled the block, and when Chase spotted his intended target, he reportedly fired several shots from the vehicle but missed. The family then drove away from the area, stopping a short distance away so that the parents could switch seats and Chase could change clothes in the car.
Both Chase and his mother were arrested at their home on Tuesday — after which Jennifer Lackard was immediately <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/08/04/us-news/new-york-police-bigwig-accused-of-driving-getaway-car-for-her-son-fired/">fired from her job</a> with the police department: &#8220;Effective immediately, the City of Mount Vernon has terminated Jennifer Lackard’s employment. The allegations are unrelated to her duties with the Mount Vernon Police Department and do not stem from any conduct associated with the Department or the performance of her official responsibilities.&#8221;
Lackard, prior to her termination, had been a boss within the Wellness Unit since 2022 and had advocated for her precinct to respond to mental health issues without resorting to traditional policing methods: &#8220;A lot of the people we encounter are in a mental health crisis. Some are combatant, some are really, really aggressive and some are not. And some are frequent fliers because they don’t have support.&#8221;
Damon Jones, who previously worked for three decades at the Westchester County Department of Corrections and now publishes Black Westchester Magazine, was incensed.
“This is f*cking embarrassing! I am embarrassed as a black law enforcement officer to see the dysfunction in a city that has a black mayor, a majority of black city council, a majority black police department that we have to see continuing dysfunction and just foolery in an organization that should be so professional,&#8221; he told The Post.

A mother who&#8217;s on trial for murdering her three young children wrote diary entries about her worsening postpartum mental health and told clinicians she thought she was experiencing severe side effects from the psychiatric medications she was prescribed.
“I’m so desperate to get a mental break from taking care of everyone that my mind is trying to find something physically wrong with me,” <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/lindsay-clancy-strangled-her-three-children-why-some-people-want-her-set-free?author=Amanda+Prestigiacomo&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=1&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Lindsay+Clancy+Strangled+Her+Three+Children.+Why+Some+People+Want+Her+Set+Free.">Lindsay Clancy</a> wrote in November 2022. Clancy fatally attacked her children on January 24, 2023.
“I want help. I want to be well,” she said in another entry. She also said she felt “incredibly sad and guilty” about being unable to breastfeed her youngest child and was “obsessed” with his sleep schedule.
“I have crazy brain fog. I feel like I can’t make a plan,” Clancy wrote. “I live moment to moment waiting for the next nap time. I’m terrified of Cal getting overtired now because I feel I can’t help him.”
Additionally, Clancy&#8217;s defense team said that in December the mother told a crisis service that she believed her symptoms were side effects from psychiatric medications she had been prescribed.
In the months leading up to the incident, Clancy was prescribed numerous medications, including Zoloft, Ativan, Benadryl, trazodone, Prozac, Ambien, Remeron, Klonopin, Seroquel, Valium, and amitriptyline, with doctors changing or adjusting her medications over time as her symptoms persisted.
Several of the psychiatric medications listed potential side effects, including agitation, insomnia, suicidal thoughts, confusion, and — in rare cases — hallucinations or psychotic symptoms. According to court filings, Clancy’s medication regimen changed multiple times during the fall and winter of 2022.
Clancy does not dispute that she strangled her three young children — 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 8-month-old Callan — inside the family’s home in Duxbury, Massachusetts, in January 2023 after her then-husband left to pick up takeout food and medication. Prosecutors say Clancy then attempted suicide by jumping from a second-story window after cutting both of her wrists. All three children died, and Clancy was left paralyzed from the waist down.
Earlier this week, the defense team tried to counter the state&#8217;s argument that Clancy was organized and calculating in her actions and therefore not clinically insane. Dr. Sejal Shah, who testified as a rebuttal witness for the defense and is a forensic psychiatrist, <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/lindsay-clancy-defense-scores-extremely-helpful-psychosis-concession-expert-flags-next-hurdle">agreed</a> with the defense that “people can communicate and plan and act on plans even if they&#8217;re in the middle of a psychosis.”
Shah also agreed that someone does not have to be &#8220;drooling and stumbling and unable to walk and talk&#8221; in order to be psychotic.
Clancy has many public supporters who believe she should be treated by medical professionals and avoid jail time, citing what they see as the medical system&#8217;s failure, particularly given that Clancy was newly postpartum when her symptoms first appeared. Others have acknowledged the unhealthy and sometimes dangerous reliance on pills and medications to treat mental health struggles while still believing Clancy needs to be held accountable for killing three innocent children.
A jury is expected to render a verdict by the end of August or early September.

Lindsay Clancy Diary Entries Puts Focus On Psych Meds

Authorities have identified the gunman who killed three people during Saturday&#8217;s shooting at an In-N-Out Burger in Twin Falls, Idaho, and investigators are still working to determine what motivated the attack.
Twin Falls Police on Sunday identified the lone suspect as 24-year-old Chad Williams, who authorities say took his own life after opening fire at the newly-opened restaurant. Police said three people were killed and seven others were wounded in the shooting, which erupted on Saturday around 2:30 p.m. local time at the In-N-Out location that had opened just over a week ago.
Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks said Sunday that two of the wounded victims have since been treated and released from the hospital, while two remain in critical condition and three others are listed in stable condition. Hicks cautioned that those figures remain preliminary as the investigation continues.
Authorities have not yet publicly identified the three people killed because family notifications are still being completed.
In-N-Out President Lynsi Snyder confirmed that one of the victims was an employee. &#8220;She was taking care of our most important asset — our Customers, and her life was taken by a disgusting human who doesn&#8217;t value the lives of others or his own,&#8221; Snyder said in a <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/Dbhsx8XOGOk/?hl=en">statement</a>. She added that the shooter fired both on and off company property before ending his own life.
Police said the investigation remains active, with detectives continuing to interview what Chief Hicks described as hundreds of potential witnesses. The FBI is assisting local authorities.
Officials also praised the actions of an <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/hero-bystander-jumps-in-when-shooter-opens-fire-at-in-n-out-burger?author=Virginia+Kruta&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Armed+Hero+Bystander+Jumps+In+When+Shooter+Opens+Fire+At+In-N-Out+Burger">armed citizen</a>, identified as an off-duty law enforcement officer who returned fire during the attack, saying his response likely prevented additional casualties by forcing the gunman to retreat.
Witnesses described scenes of panic as customers and employees fled the restaurant. &#8220;People were running out crying and screaming. A heroic bystander jumped into the fray on Saturday, shooting back when someone opened fire in the drive-thru at an In-N-Out Burger restaurant in Twin Falls, Idaho.
In video that circulated after the shooting, the gunman was walking in the drive-thru firing at cars as he approached the window. Within a few seconds, a second gun could be heard engaging the shooter, who quickly ran for cover in some nearby bushes.

According to witness Lane Koehn, the hero bystander had identified himself as a former paramedic — and had given In-N-Out employees and other customers valuable time to escape by engaging the suspect and keeping him distracted. Koehn had been at a nearby stoplight when he saw the shooter walking toward cars in the drive-thru, and saw the second man pull out a handgun and shoot back.
Koehn, 34, told reporters that he&#8217;d seen one In-N-Out employee being dragged away from the scene, saying that he&#8217;d joined the armed citizen in waiting with the injured employee until first responders arrived.
&#8220;She was pretty bad off, but I don’t know. I hope she made it,&#8221; he told KPTV FOX 12.
&#8220;People were running out crying and screaming. It was very scary,” Haley Dodaro said in a text message to The Associated Press. She and her mother had been in the drive-thru line when people began running from the restaurant.
The In-N-Out restaurant had only opened one week earlier, on July 24, as the chain only recently expanded into Idaho.
In total, three were killed in the shooting — including one employee — and several more were injured. In-N-Out President Lynsi Snyder issued a statement following the tragedy.
&#8220;We lost one of our beautiful Associates tonight. She was taking care of our most important asset — our Customers, and her life was taken by a disgusting human who doesn’t value the lives of others or his own,&#8221; Snyder posted. &#8220;My heart is broken, my chest is heavy, my eyes burn from the tears I’ve shed.&#8221;

According to eyewitness accounts, the confrontation began when Metcalf told Anthony to leave his team&#8217;s tented area during the track event. It&#8217;s unclear if Metcalf touched Anthony at all before the stabbing. Witnesses told investigators that Anthony then pulled out a knife, threatened Metcalf, and stabbed him. Metcalf later died in his twin brother&#8217;s arms.
Anthony admitted to police that he stabbed Metcalf, reportedly telling officers, &#8220;I&#8217;m not alleged, I did it.&#8221;
Jeff Metcalf, Austin&#8217;s father, said after Anthony was indicted last year that he&#8217;s confident justice will be served.
“I am pleased that we are moving forward,&#8221; he said in a statement. &#8220;With the first-degree murder indictment, it now goes into the court system. I fully believe that justice will be served for Austin Metcalf. I look forward to the forthcoming trial. But it will never bring my son back.”

“At that point, I tell the children, ‘get with me, get up, let’s start backing up,’” Jauregui told <a href="https://wjla.com/news/local/navy-yard-brawl-comes-after-us-attorney-pirros-promised-crackdown-on-teen-takeovers">ABC7 News</a>. “And then it was like an ambush.”
Jauregui said the group “looked like ninjas, dressed in black, with ski masks,” as they flooded into the restaurant and began swinging chairs at one another. He said he and his children were forced into a corner while he scanned the crowd for weapons, relying on his military training to assess whether any of the teens were armed. He watched as the fight escalated into what U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro described Monday as a “takeover of a restaurant.”
“It was not just violence occurring between individuals. It was simply destruction of property,” Pirro said during a press conference. “It was a takeover of a restaurant by individuals who felt like they could get away with it. Well, they’re not going to get away with it.” Pirro said the Federal Bureau of Investigation is now involved in identifying those responsible for the weekend melee, which broke out in the city’s Navy Yard neighborhood one day after she announced a new crackdown on juvenile crime.
She vowed to prosecute not only the teens involved but, in some cases, their parents. “If you know where your teen is and what they are doing and allow them to continue their conduct and continue to allow them to flourish, we’re going to prosecute you,” Pirro said. Jauregui said he supports that approach, arguing the violence went far beyond teenagers “messing around.”
“[I’m] in line with what the U.S. Attorney is trying to do,” he said. “This is next level. Where a dad can’t bring their kids to a Nats game and grab a bite after.” The father said his two sons helped shield their younger sisters during the chaos, but the emotional impact lingered after the family left. “My son said on the way home, ‘Papa, I can’t unsee that,’” Jauregui said. “Those individuals have now directly impacted my security, my life.”

The event, attended by roughly 2,000–2,500 guests including cabinet officials, journalists, and the First Lady, quickly descended into panic as Secret Service agents engaged the suspect.
“A man charged a security checkpoint armed with multiple weapons, and he was taken down by some very brave members of the Secret Service,” Trump said shortly after the incident, later describing the attacker as a “would-be assassin.”
According to CBS News, Allen opened fire outside the ballroom where the president and other officials were gathered, discharging between five and eight rounds during the incident. The president and First Lady Melania Trump were safely evacuated, and no attendees suffered serious injuries.

Federal Election Commission records also show a $25 donation from an individual matching his profile to ActBlue, a major Democratic fundraising platform, in October 2024.
