A new poll found that nearly 75 percent of American voters with an opinion on the issue believe that the transgender movement has “gone too far” by encouraging underage minors to use drugs and surgeries to appear like the opposite sex.
Other key insights from the survey include: 69 percent of voters with an opinion on the issue say that the increase in transgender identification among minors is a result of being influenced to question their gender through “social media and other cultural influences,” and 70 percent of polled voters with an opinion believe that the medical industry promoting gender transition for minors is motivated by financial gain.
“Americans disagree on many issues, but these numbers clearly show that voters are united in believing that the transgender movement has gone too far, and that social media and the medical industry are exploiting children for self-serving financial gain,” said Dr. Jeff Myers, President of Summit.org. “The burning question is, why won’t anyone say anything? What will it take for Americans to overcome the intimidation and say, ‘enough is enough?’”
The national survey, conducted by Summit.org in partnership with McLaughlin and Associates, polled more than 1,000 likely 2022 election voters in October. The voter profile consisted of 36 percent Republican voters, 37 percent Democrats, and 27 percent independent or unaffiliated voters. The results discussed below include only those with an opinion on the questions asked, while those who indicated they were unsure or “don’t know” were excluded.
When asked if they “believe the transgender movement has gone too far by encouraging underage minors to use drugs and surgery to transition to the opposite sex,” the poll found that 75 percent of respondents answered “yes.”
The overwhelming majority of Republican voters—86 percent—and more than half (61 percent) of independent voters think minors are encouraged by the “transgender movement” to medically transition with drugs and surgeries, while Democrats were nearly split at 46 percent.
When asked what their opinion was on “why transgenderism is rising among underage minors,” the poll found that 69 percent of respondents said that “underage minors are being influenced to question their gender due to social media and other cultural influences.” By contrast, 31 percent answered that the rise in trans-identifying minors is because “underage minors feel free to question their gender without judgment.”
A full 80 percent of Republican voters, 57 percent of independents, and 41 percent of Democrats think social media and cultural influences encourage minors to question their gender.
When asked what their opinion was on the “motivation behind the medical industry promoting gender transition for young children,” the poll found that 70 percent of respondents believe that the medical industry is “motivated by financial gain,” while 30 percent believe that medical institutions are “motivated to help struggling children.”
The partisan breakdown follows that 74 percent of Republicans, 56 percent of independents, and 39 percent of Democrats believe financial gain motivates the medical industry to promote gender transition to minors.
Additionally, respondents were asked if they were reluctant to share their views with friends, family, or coworkers. 41 percent of voters say they are reluctant. Of those who were reluctant to share their thoughts, 8 percent say they withhold their opinions because they “don’t want to be canceled,” 16 percent because they “don’t want to offend,” and 16 percent because they “don’t know enough.” By contrast, 59 percent of voters say they are not reluctant to share their views on transgender issues with friends, family, and coworkers.
The findings of this survey speak to an overall shift in Americans’ perceptions of minors who have adopted transgender identities towards skepticism and caution. Another recent poll found that nearly 80 percent of American voters believe minors should be required to wait until they are adults to pursue transgender procedures.
When asked if they “believe underage minors should be required to wait until they are adults to use puberty blockers and undergo permanent sex change procedures,” the poll conducted by the Convention of States Action, in partnership with The Trafalgar Group, of more than 1,000 likely 2022 election voters found that 78.7 percent of all respondents comprising Democrats, Republicans, and non-partisan affiliations said they should “wait.”
