Singer Pink said she was nervous about becoming a mom

The 43-year-old star discussed her fears during a recent interview with People. “I did not know I was going to have a family. I didn’t picture that for myself because I was terrified I would be a terrible mother,” Pink, whose real name is Alecia Beth Moore Hart, told the publication.

“But, oh my God, being a mom is the most incredible thing I’ve ever done. It’s shocking how responsible I’ve become.”

The “Just Give Me A Reason” singer went on to describe some of the average parenting responsibilities she has. “I was in charge of snacks for last week’s basketball game; I’m chaperoning [11-year-old daughter] Willow’s dance next Friday. … Who am I?” she continued. “But I love it.”

The mom of two said her busy touring schedule has led to having some tough conversations with Willow.

“We finally had to have this really teary conversation about what I do and that it’s hard as a mom, and that’s why not a lot of moms do it,” Pink told People.

“I told her, ‘It’s going to suck, and I won’t go longer than 10 days without you … or I’ll quit. I’ll walk away tomorrow. What do you want?’ And she was like, ‘Don’t quit, Mama. I will just miss you sometimes. And I love what you do.’ And I was like, ‘I love what I do too. I worked my ass off for it, and I’m not going to apologize for that. Also, it affords you a very nice life!'”

During a recent Today show appearance, Pink said she decided to give Willow a “minimum wage” job as part of her tour crew.

“Willow has a job on tour,” the singer said. “We just had to go over minimum wage and it’s different state to state.”

Pink also recalled teaching her daughter how to negotiate her salary.

“I said it’s about $22.50 a show depending how long I go, if I run over. She goes, ‘I’ll take $20. it’s easier to do the math.’ I’m like ‘That’s not how you negotiate for yourself.’ I’m like, ‘You’ll take $25 so it’s easier math,” the singer said.

Previously, Pink had talked about how she was encouraged not to have kids early in her career because they would ruin her shot at fame. “Everyone told me, ‘If you have children right now, your career’s over,’” she said.

“Obviously, we’re all much more complex than any of that, but when I had a child, I think it softened me to the world, the part that didn’t understand me,” Pink continued. “And I think that’s when my career began, really. I mean, I did a lot of stuff before that, but really, truly, I think it’s when I started to really understand myself and understand the world and my place in it.”
