Singer Pink recalled being told early in her career that having children would destroy her shot at fame, but she found the opposite to be true.

The 43-year-old star, whose real name is Alecia Beth Moore Hart, shares two children with husband Carey Hart. During an appearance on The Zane Lowe Show, she talked about the reaction in the music industry when she mentioned having kids, per People.

“Everyone told me, ‘If you have children right now, your career’s over,'” Pink recalled. But instead of struggling, Pink said becoming a mom only expanded her creative horizons and helped her singing career.

“Obviously, we’re all much more complex than any of that, but when I had a child, I think it softened me to the world, the part that didn’t understand me,” she continued. “And I think that’s when my career began, really. I mean, I did a lot of stuff before that, but really, truly, I think it’s when I started to really understand myself and understand the world and my place in it.”

The “So What” singer went on to discuss how her own complicated upbringing helped spur her desire to create a stable home life.

“Having a family was really important to me because my family life was screwed as a kid, and I’m super affectionate and cuddly and goofy. Just doing music wasn’t enough for me,” Pink said during the interview. “I was lonely. I was so lonely. It’s a very lonely business.”

“I love writing songs. I love singing songs. I love performing. Sitting with a guitar is one of my favorite things I’ll ever do, but cuddling with my babies and taking them camping and being dirty for three days is also one of the coolest things I’ll ever do, and making wine also happens to be pretty cool,” Pink said.

Pink is known for being pro-abortion. In June 2022, she set off fans by tweeting a message to conservatives in the wake of Roe v. Wade being overturned.

“Let’s be clear: if you believe the government belongs in a woman’s uterus, a gay person’s business or marriage, or that racism is okay — THEN PLEASE IN THE NAME OF YOUR LORD NEVER F***ING LISTEN TO MY MUSIC AGAIN. AND ALSO F*** RIGHT OFF. We good?” she tweeted at the time.
