Kensington Palace hit back at several rumors and conspiracy theories that have surfaced around Kate Middleton’s absence following her abdominal surgery in January.

On Thursday, a spokesperson for the Princess of Wales said that, “We were very clear from the outset that the Princess of Wales was out until after Easter and Kensington Palace would only be providing updates when something was significant,” People magazine reported.

The spokesperson for Middleton reiterated an earlier comment this week from the royal household that the Princess was “doing well” after rumors surfaced about her health when Prince Wiliam missed the memorial service for his godfather, the late King Constantine of Greece, due to what was called “a personal matter.”

NBC News reported that, according to the palace, the “Princess of Wales, who is recovering from abdominal surgery, continues to do well.”

The statement obtained by NBC News included a mention of a call made by Prince William to the Greek royal family to let them know he wasn’t going to be able to be there.

A lot of the speculation comes as the Princess has not been seen in public since Christmas Day, Page Six noted. Some of the wilder theories that have been floated suggest that Middleton is in a coma or possibly has undergone plastic surgery. There’s even been speculation that the royal could be in some kind of rehab facility or could be dead.

In January, Kensington Palace released a statement about the Princess of Wales remaining in the hospital for up to two weeks before she would be released to continue her recovery at home. At the time, the statement said she would not return to her royal public duties until after Easter.

“The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate,” the palace statement read. “She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible; and her wish that her personal medical information remains private.”

“Kensington Palace will, therefore, only provide updates on Her Royal Highness’ progress when there is significant new information to share,” the statement added.

On January 29, the palace announced Middleton had been released from the hospital following her surgery.

“The Princess of Wales has returned home to Windsor to continue her recovery from surgery. She is making good progress,” Kensington Palace said in a statement. “The Prince and Princess wish to say a huge thank you to the entire team at The London Clinic, especially the dedicated nursing staff, for the care they have provided.”

The Prince and Princess of Wales have three children together, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
