Kensington Palace gave a health update on Kate Middleton after her husband Prince William skipped an event due to a “personal matter.”

NBC News reported that, according to the palace, the “Princess of Wales, who is recovering from abdominal surgery, continues to do well.”

The Prince of Wales was previously expected to attend a memorial service for his godfather, the late King Constantine of Greece, CNN noted. The statement obtained by NBC News included a mention of a call made by Prince William to the Greek royal family to let them know he wasn’t going to be able to be there.

In late January, the palace announced Middleton had been released from the hospital following her surgery.

”The Princess of Wales has returned home to Windsor to continue her recovery from surgery. She is making good progress,” Kensington Palace said in a statement. “The Prince and Princess wish to say a huge thank you to the entire team at The London Clinic, especially the dedicated nursing staff, for the care they have provided.”

Also not in attendance at the memorial service for the late royal was the prince’s father, King Charles III, who’s currently undergoing treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer.

Buckingham Palace previously announced the King was diagnosed with cancer during his recent “hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement.”

“Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer,” the statement read, without providing further information. “His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties.”

“Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual,” the statement added. “The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure. He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.”

“His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer,” the statement concluded.

The King ascended to the throne in September 2022 following the death of his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, who was 96 years old.
