Kate Middleton has undergone abdominal surgery and will remain in the hospital for up to two weeks, putting her royal duties on hold until after Easter to allow for her recovery.

A press release from the Princess of Wales’ royal household Kensington Palace announced Wednesday that Middleton had been admitted the previous day to The London Clinic for planned surgery.

“The surgery was successful and it is expected that she will remain in hospital for ten to fourteen days, before returning home to continue her recovery,” the press release added. “Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter.”

There was no further information provided as to what the royal’s diagnosis or prognosis was, only that her condition was “not cancerous” and the surgery was “successful,” the New York Times noted.

“The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate,” the press release concluded. “She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible; and her wish that her personal medical information remains private.”

The Prince and Princess of Wales have three children together, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. Prince William has reportedly cut back on his official royal duties in an effort to take care of Middleton and help with the care of their three kids during her recovery.

Shortly after the reports about Middleton surfaced, Buckingham Palace shared that King Charles III will undergo a procedure next week for an enlarged prostate, the Times noted.

“His Majesty’s condition is benign and he will attend hospital next week for a corrective procedure,” the palace said in a statement. “The King’s public engagements will be postponed for a short period of recuperation.”

The royal household also said that the reason the king decided to share the information about his surgery was in hopes that it encourages other men to get checked if they are dealing with similar symptoms, which can include, “frequent or urgent need to pee” and “weak urine stream…,” the Times noted.
